Last night on the news they reported that in 1948 a bomber and fighter plane ran into each other off the coast of Savannah. Rather than land with the fully arm nuclear bomb and risk it going off in the crash landing he droped the bomb in the ocean. They have never tried to recover the bomb, or they could not find it. So off the coast between HHI and Sav. is a rusty nuke. I'm not worried though. They did not say that it was in danger of going off.

Apparently this is true, although it was in 1958. Seems the bomb is off of Tybee Island somewhere.

I did a Google search and found this article:

There seem to be conflicting reports as to whether the bomb actually contained a trigger or not.

The main reason that this seems to be in the news again is because people are concerned that terrorists may be able to locate the weapon and use to to construct a "dirty" bomb (assuming that it doesn't have a trigger).

Well, if it went off, then at least I'm home. :) That will be a great way to go, wouldn't it?

I'd be more afraid of it rusting to pieces & washing up with the next hurricane or winding up in fish caught in the area.
