I've stayed at both...and both are pretty spread out (thinking of your mother in wheelchair....) We just got back today from POR!!!!
I would choose POR - we had a good time!

How about POFQ?? Not as spread out from what others have said.

I have stayed at all three resorts, CBR, POR, and POFQ. I would choose POR too. It is my favorite moderate. It is spread out but you can make a request for a building close to the main area. Let them know your mother is in a wheelchair when you make your reservation. I really enjoy the main common area at POR. With the restaraunt, the mill, the boats it has so much to offer. POFQ is smaller but I personally like the main area at POR more.

You can always ask for a room close to the main building. Looking on the map, that's Building 14 or 18, the Gator Alley section of the POR resort.

Myself, grown DD & SIL with 2 y.o. grandbaby in stroller, and 22 y.o. DD had a fantastic time at Riverside. We stayed in one of the plantation mansion style buildings. It was a good walk from the main building, but the paths were wide and easily navigable with the heavy stroller. The resort also ferried people around in carts if requested. The buses pick up from the front of the resort and also from the rear. The water ride is also a great way to get to the Magic Kingdom and it loads at the Marina right in front of the main building.

Your mother should have no problem getting around the resort. The Swimming Hole, playground, and restaurants are designed with strollers and wheelchairs in mind. I walked down to the French Quarter Resort to get beignets (doughnuts) for breakfast one morning. We also spent time at the FQ's themed pool because that had always been a wish of mine.

Wherever you stay, ask the resort personnel to help if you need them to. We've always found Disney employees willing to go the extra little bit to make our vacations great.

I like both as well, but would choose POR. The room we had at POR had a trundle bed that my daughter loved and the grounds are beautiful.

I've stayed at them both and I like CRB better. I did not like the LONG walk back from the buses to my room at Port Orleans. We've always had a preferred room at CBR and only had about a 50 yard walk to transportation and Old Port Royale. We also loved having a "little beach" and hammocks to lounge in at night. I guess it depends on the sort of setting you are looking for. Beach versus Louisanna ;)

I have stayed at both and would say POR (or POFQ). CBR seems more spread out to me. I also think a change from a beach theme might be nice since you will be going on a cruise afterward. And the pool at CBR is closed right now. Not sure when your trip is.

I enjoy all the resorts, and each has pros and cons. It depends on what you like themewise, and what is important to you.

We have stayed at Caribbean Beach a number of times and French Quarter once. I do love the CB but they are remodeling the main pool currently. I'm not sure when your plans are to go and if this makes a difference. I think it might take away from the overall atmosphere of the resort. The French Quarter is somewhat more compact and the pool is great there but no full serve restaurant if that makes a difference. Have a great cruise and stay at WDW!

I would choose POR and ask to stay in Parterre Place. That mansion is close to the main building and all other activities are pretty well right there too. We love it there!!!!

Mom and I went to POR--I ordered an EVC for her and she got all over with no problems, and it was easier for me as I didn't have to push a wheel chair. She loved the resort, it was so quiet and peaceful. We also traveled the paths to POFQ and loved eating there and looking in the gift shop, and it was so easy to do. We also took the boat to POFQ another time, and to Downtown Disney. This is my favorite resort.

I have also been to CBR. That is also very nice, but we had a room way out and felt kind away from everything (Trinidad South), although we weren't too far from the bus stop. If you decide on this resort, make sure to consult a map and ask for a room closer to Old Port Royale. Caribbean Cay was a must see there, with the flowers and paths.

Either one is nice, but my vote if for POR.

we've stayed at both, and it's not even close as far as we're concerned-----POR is awesome. Don't worry about the walks---the grounds are so nice, it doesn't even seem like a walk at all.

Everytime I stay at the POR I use the jogging path, and end up jogging an extra mile just because I enjoy looking at everything on the property.

Sept. is a great month to go! Fall and Spring are our favorite times. :)

I "think" the main pool at CBR is scheduled to reopen Sept. 15th. I am not sure how accurate that is though. Maybe someone else knows more.

When we have stayed at CBR we prefer Jamaica, and we like Alligator Bayou a little better than the mansions at POR. The decor really is different inside, so look at photos online when you decide for sure. Make request on your reservations and mention them again when you check in. We do love POFQ too, it is a smaller resort. The gift shop and food court are smaller as well.

POR is my favorite moderate, we have stayed at them all several times. But it is a personal decision based on your own opinions about things.

Enjoy your trip!

POR would be great, but I'd suggest putting in a "medical grounds" request for building 14 which is the most accessible for everything (food court, buses, etc). They do have special needs rooms at POR, with walk-in showers with seats, etc. However these have only one large bed (to allow for more space for wheelchair access) so they may not be suitable for the rest of your family's needs. If your mother will be OK in a standard double-bed room with bath/shower, just try to get a ground-floor location in building 14 and you'll have a great time.

We have stayed at both three times each and loved both but DH likes CBR better because of the themeing and I love POR because of the themeing!

Either one is a great choice

CBR is my favorite, however due to its pool closure I would go with another mod. I love POR, , it has a great main pool. However, its spread out so if you think that will be any problem at all for your mom, I might suggest as others have you think about POFQ. Much smaller, well themed, nice pool and food court and you have the boat to DTD.

In the end, you cannot make a bad choice, they all four are lovely resorts. I just think your kids need a main pool that is working!

I also suggest renting your mom an ECCV, we did that for my father in law and it was very nice. We used Randy's Mobility, they delivered and picked it up for us at our resort. Have a fun trip and a fun cruise!
