The popularity of the Disney CMO contest has brought together a group of unique, caring individuals that share the same interests: The Love of All Things Disney!!
This will be the fourth installment of our DIS-nee family topic (fifth, if you count our road trip!), graciously named by our current CMO, Justin Muchoney - direct from his huge imagination and wonderful sense of humor.
The adventure began here:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1697374
Continued here:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1740802
And here:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1779541
And if you would like to tag along on our road trip, feel free to hop on board the DIS-nee family resort bus here:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1801458
We will be continuing our fun with different topics each week. These will help us get to know each other better and encourage newbies to join in and share their experiences and thoughts. This weeks topic:
Disney Favorites!!
1. Sharing our favorite Disney dream (realistic one AND not so realistic)
2. Sharing our favorite Disney experience or memory
3. Sharing our favorite Disney hidden gem
4. Sharing our favorite Disney restaurant
5. Sharing our favorite Disney money saving tip
Feel free to open up and share what some of your favorites are!

But first a silly little side-note:
[*Cue quirky intermission music.*]
Tooth: I tried to respond to your post on our old thread, but was totally confused when I couldn't find any of the typical edit buttons -- like "Quote," "Multi-Quote" and "Quick Reply." After a little mumbling under my breath, I learned that our beloved "The Top Three Meet DIS-nee" thread had officially been closed!
[*Pause for a brief "moment of silence.*] :sad1:
*******
[*Now back to our regularly scheduled program.*]
So, about the Half Marathon...
NUTS!
You're kidding me! :scared1: I figured I had until at least the end of this month to register! (I was waiting for a solid commitment from my brother-in-law before I pulled the trigger, 'cuz I really prefer a running buddy for races.)
At least I did manage to register for the Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon in Virginia Beach. But, maaaaaaan ... I guess I won't be running the Disney Half Marathon in '09. (And that was supposed to be my sure-fire "ticket" to a quickie trip to The World. :guilty: Hmmmm....... What to do now!?! Any creative ideas? I'm currently in "damage control" mode!)

Here's a link to some of our pictures from last night. Our actual seats were to the side of the stage, up in the very top section in the 3rd from last row. (Thank God my new camera has a 10x zoom!) The tickets were free, so I can't complain!!
We were on stage for 3 songs, and luckily we were on the Richie Sambora side. He was probably about 15 feet away from us, and Jon Bon Jovi was about 20 feet away. It was a very cool show!!

Wow, Mrs. Fleagle! That's a lot of tiaras! 'Sounds like princess/diva heaven! (How many students perform in your recitals anyway?!)
Well, they were actually rhinestone headbands that I ordered.... and they were for my Company members. They like a little extra bling to set them aside from my regular classes in the recital. Total I have about 250 students ages 2 to adult. But the tiara/headbands were for just for them.
Most studios have companies for competition....but I don't really believe in competition for dance. Just my opinion, and I'm in the minority. My companies just dance more often and have some extra perks. We perform at nursing homes and parades and stuff, not competitions. I went to a dance competition once....years ago....and a group was there and all the parents and teachers from this school had hats and t-shirts made that said..and I'm not kidding..... "Been There, Won That, Wanna Win More!"
Horrible! That made my decision easy.... Anyway, got a bit off topic there. Sorry.

Why am I so OLD!
I've decided that "old" is simply a state of mind. It's definitely all relative, 'cuz my definition of "old" keeps changing every year!
It's a sliding scale... I remember (back in elementary school  ) when thirty sounded ancient! :rotfl:

Exactly! Dance should be an outlet and a release, not yet another thing to get stressed about. That same school I mentioned had a dancer fall out of a turn and the look fear that immediately swept over her face and the look of death that gleamed from the teacher was devastating.
Anyway...quick disclaimer here...... If you do believe in dance competition and you, your child, your friend's child, or whoever....DOES compete that's ok. Remember, I said my viewpoint was in the minority. I'm sure it has it's benefits, but it's just not for me. Ok, end of that topic. :)

Thanks for asking! :teeth: (Cat made the ones in my siggy -- but not my avatar.)
Now it's time for miniature "history lesson": Actually my avatar is from Andy "the Andimator" (screen-name: pose2pose). He's one of the Top 20 CMO contestants, who appeared in our original thread. (He still makes occasional appearances from time to time! Hi, Andy -- if you're out there! :wave2: Hmmm..... I wonder if he even knows where to find us now! )
Anyway, he's an Animator by trade, and he's very gifted at what he does. He bestowed a few lucky members of the DIS-nee Family with their very own personalized avatars. (If you look closely, you'll notice that Kenny the Pirate, Marshay, AnnDisneyFan, Disneyfalcon, and CalDisneyFamily have the same type of avatars -- all were "Andimated" by Andy the "Andimator." Hey Stephen,
If you really were interested in Eric's trip report it was called
A Series of Fortunate Events..... the funny thing is it was originally titled A Series of UNFortunate Events, but since it was pre-CMO days Eric didn't want to appear negative in case the sponsors were reading...which they were. ;)
Anyway, I don't really know how to search for it. I'll keep trying, but you're move savvy at this board thing than I am, so if you find it let me know. It probably started early February since we came home Jan. 30th if that helps.

Bleh..... so DH and I are going over to my brother's place to hang out with him and his girlfriend. We are getting Chinese food... BONUS! We are watching scary movie.... BOOOOO!
This is cool though.... my brother's girlfriend is coming to Disney with us in two weeks, my brother isn't coming because he couldn't get the time off.... or so we thought. He called me last night and said that at first he wasn't able to get the time off (because he is still kind of new at his job) but his boss likes him and gave him a few days off. So he bought a ticket last night to come down for a few days and didn't tell the girlfriend.... he asked me not to tell her either. He is going to rent his own car and one night just show up at the condo and be like SURPRISE!!!

OK, OK ... please let me start off by saying "NO FLAMING :furious: PLEASE!!!"
I know this isn't a Disney film, but I thought I would let everyone know that I thought this movie was awesome. I'll personally give it 2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2. I'm not a comic buff and don't put a lot into how the movie might differ from the original comic. I just thought the movie (acting, story, special effects) were A+++. If you like this kind of movie then I would definitely recommend you go and see it. I took DS to see it (DW & DD were out of town on an over night school trip). Even though the movie was close to 2 hrs. long, it was good enough to keep my 5 year old glued to the screen.

I just found something in one of the local papers, The Huntsville Times, that sounded pretty neat. You can go to NASA's website and enter your name to be placed into a database that will be placed on a microchip. That microchip will then be placed on the the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO, that will be launched into space to orbit the moon. For those of you that have always wanted to go to the moon but never had "the right stuff", now's your chance!
**We can't all go to moon, but our names can.**
"Want to send your name to the moon? You can on NASA's next lunar probe - in microscopic type.
A microchip with names will be placed on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO, spacecraft, scheduled for an October launch. Marshall Space Flight Center oversees the probe.
NASA has established a free "Send Your Name to the Moon" Web site that "enables everyone to participate in the lunar adventure and place their names in orbit around the moon for years to come," according to the space agency."

I guess it's going to be a pretty quiet morning here today!
I had planned on catching up on the VRT last night in bed, but then realized I had no battery power left. Now I missed saying "Good-Bye" to Marshay!!
DH and I need to do a good house-cleaning today, since we kind of skipped that last weekend. Our house hasn't shown in a week, so we've gotten a little relaxed in keeping it tidy. Laundry is piling up...now that I'm at the desk I see that it's a mess...There's dishes in the sink... Hey Timothy, can I borrow the Disney Maid today????;)
And now I was just told 3-5 days for a replacement AC adapter...this stinks!
MadBrad - did you get a shiny fast "toy"? It looks like you've teased us with a headlight, but I can't tell what kind of headlight. I bet DH would know! He's pretty good at spotting those kinds of things.

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying frantically to catch up on the last thread (I'm on page 448) and also catch up to you on the road trip. We've been packing boxes all week! Jeff leaves on Monday for Florida for 3 days. We've GOT to get this house on the market.
Anyway, I'll reply to posts as I continue to catch up. Just wanted to check in with you all to say I haven't jumped ship yet (although I may need to take an extended break for a few weeks). Crazy as it sounds, I'll hate to take that break for fear I'll miss something really important!
Miss you all!
Suz D
PS. David and anyone else, we land in Seattle on June 18th at 2:30. If it works out perhaps we can get together for a late lunch at Zoopa by Southcenter Mall or at the food court at Crossroads mall. We'lll be on Eastern time, so 2:30 would be 5:30 for us so we'll likely be hungry. Please let me know if that works for anyone else. Circus girl? Anyone else in that area?

Okay friends I have a gross story to share with you. I guess I need some sympathy!
Last night while watching the new Disney show on the travel channel, I saw a mouse!! No not skinny minnie, or Mickey unfortunately.
I was calm, just a little unnerved. Well by the fourth time I saw him dart from one piece of furniture to the other, I had just about lost it. I know it's crazy and they're not going to hurt me, but I can't stand the suprise factor of it all!!
Dh was trying to get it for me and it scooted into my scrapbooking room! Well good news, bad news there. Bad news is today is National Scrapbooking day and there is no way under heaven I am going to scrapbook today. :sad1:
Good news is it used to be a porch so it closes with a sliding glass door! We shut him in and I relaxed enough to finish the show.
This morning dh was out there looking around. He saw an afghan on the floor and picked it up. TWO more mice (bigger then the little one from last night! ) scampered out!!
WE HAVE MICE!!! Not a mouse, MICE!!!:scared1:
I am trying to relax today but I am not really succeeding. I'm pretty much afraid to move.

You cant beat a good mouse trap!!
I'm sorry, and no offense to the big cheese, but HE is at least civilized (have you seen his wardrobe??)
We caught 16 mice in the cottage last year.
We have been there 36 years without a (known) mouse problem, other than one or two over the years.
But last summer/fall was rediculous!!
Common mousetrap, and dont stop setting it!!!
Peanut butter works great.
Sorry Mickey and Minnie, but we gotta do what we gotta do!!

OH, and by the way Disneyfalcon,
If my wife was there, it would have never gone by the first sighting!!!!
You saw it 4 times!!

I have just recently found out that the man (Bob Varley) that filmed this (Dis Unplugged) has recently passed away and that a memorial service was held today at 3pm.

MadBrad - did you get a shiny fast "toy"? It looks like you've teased us with a headlight, but I can't tell what kind of headlight. I bet DH would know! He's pretty good at spotting those kinds of things.
I'll check in later!!!
:yay: WOW!!!:yay: Mrs. F., you're good!!! You were the first person to guess, and you guessed right. I actually thought I was making it too hard for anyone to guess.
Yes, KigerKat, it is a headlight. It looks like you and Mrs. F were thinking the same thing. Kudos for you too! :thumbsup2

I would think at the very least, you'd want permission from the AC site to use their font.
I think the Dis-nee would probably be okay. Not sure tho!

We were on stage for 3 songs, and luckily we were on the Richie Sambora side. He was probably about 15 feet away from us, and Jon Bon Jovi was about 20 feet away. It was a very cool show!!

My first car was a Hyundai Accent and DH was afraid to ride in it because he was sure we were going to be killed if anyone hit us. I upgrade to the VW Beetle Convertible and DH said he felt safer.... so I asked him what is the difference between the two? I'm looking for a new camera. You and yours take GREAT pictures. Will you share which one you have? I really want one with a 10x zoom.
Hey Suz! Glad to share it with you! It's a Panasonic TZ5. I just got it a few weeks ago, myself! It has 10x zoom, shoots videos in HD, and you can zoom while shooting video. There are tons of "scene" settings to use like portrait, starry night, fireworks, ect... and there is the "intelligent auto" setting that will choose the best setting based on what you are shooting. A lot of the pictures we took were from the highest section all the way in the very last row, but the zoom on that thing makes it look like we were much closer.
I got it at Circuit City and used an online coupon so I could get another discount and then I picked it up at the store. It retails for about $350, but if you shop around you could probably get it for around $275-$290.
I'm still learning how to use it, DH is the more technically gifted one. He was pretty impressed with all the features in this one. If you're not into shooting video or have a nice camcorder already, then there is a TZ4 that still has all the same photographic features - just not the HD filming.

We don't have a camcorder but are in need of one so this would work out great! WICKED FANATIC HERE!!! I have been so fortunate to have seen it twice....once with the on Broadway with the originals (Idina and Kristen) and then a travelling version locally. We sing it almost non-stop at our house, the other top spot "Go the Distance" from Hercules.
Here is a quote from Stephen Schwartz regarding the inspiration behind the lyrics for "For Good":
"To get some of the content, I had a long conversation with my daughter, in which I asked her what she would say to her best friend (someone she has known pretty much all her life), if she knew she was never going to see her again."
Lyrics - "For Good"
by Stephen Schwartz (copyrighted)
ELPHABA
You're the only friend I've ever had.
GLINDA
And I've had so many friends. But only one-- that mattered.
(sings)
I'VE HEARD IT SAID
THAT PEOPLE COME INTO OUR LIVES FOR A REASON
BRINGING SOMETHING WE MUST LEARN
AND WE ARE LED
TO THOSE WHO HELP US MOST TO GROW
IF WE LET THEM
AND WE HELP THEM IN RETURN
WELL, I DON'T KNOW IF I BELIEVE THAT'S TRUE
BUT I KNOW I'M WHO I AM TODAY
BECAUSE I KNEW YOU...
LIKE A COMET PULLED FROM ORBIT
AS IT PASSES A SUN
LIKE A STREAM THAT MEETS A BOULDER
HALFWAY THROUGH THE WOOD
WHO CAN SAY IF I'VE BEEN CHANGED FOR THE BETTER?
BUT BECAUSE I KNEW YOU
I HAVE BEEN CHANGED FOR GOOD …
ELPHABA
IT WELL MAY BE
THAT WE WILL NEVER MEET AGAIN
IN THIS LIFETIME
SO LET ME SAY BEFORE WE PART
SO MUCH OF ME
IS MADE OF WHAT I LEARNED FROM YOU
YOU'LL BE WITH ME
LIKE A HANDPRINT ON MY HEART
AND NOW WHATEVER WAY OUR STORIES END
I KNOW YOU HAVE RE-WRITTEN MINE
BY BEING MY FRIEND...
LIKE A SHIP BLOWN FROM ITS MOORING
BY A WIND OFF THE SEA
LIKE A SEED DROPPED BY A SKYBIRD
IN A DISTANT WOOD
WHO CAN SAY IF I'VE BEEN CHANGED FOR THE BETTER?
BUT BECAUSE I KNEW YOU...
GLINDA
BECAUSE I KNEW YOU...
BOTH
BECAUSE I KNEW YOU
I HAVE BEEN CHANGED FOR GOOD...
ELPHABA
AND JUST TO CLEAR THE AIR
I ASK FORGIVENESS
FOR THE THINGS I'VE DONE YOU BLAME ME FOR
GLINDA
BUT THEN, I GUESS WE KNOW
THERE'S BLAME TO SHARE
BOTH
AND NONE OF IT SEEMS TO MATTER ANYMORE
___
[They sing simultaneously]
GLINDA
LIKE A COMET PULLED FROM
ORBIT/AS IT PASSES A SUN/
LIKE A STREAM THAT MEETS A
BOULDER/ HALF-WAY
THROUGH THE WOOD
ELPHABA
LIKE A SHIP BLOWN OFF ITS
MOORING/BY A WIND OFF THE
SEA/ LIKE A SEED DROPPED BY A
BIRD IN
THE WOOD
___
BOTH
WHO CAN SAY IF I'VE BEEN CHANGED FOR THE BETTER?
I DO BELIEVE I HAVE BEEN CHANGED FOR THE BETTER
GLINDA
AND BECAUSE I KNEW YOU...
ELPHABA
BECAUSE I KNEW YOU...
BOTH
BECAUSE I KNEW YOU...
I HAVE BEEN CHANGED FOR GOOD.

I will even add to that tissue need......I saw the musical, loved it, bought the CD the second it came out, memorized it and was always touched by those lyrics.
My best friend for life passed away way too soon. So I would read those lyrics and think of her. Started to do more research on the musical. Well, when I read Mr. Schwartz's inspiration, I just cried and cried. And, of course, sent the lyrics to my best friend, Karen's, family along with his story of the song.
On that note, I will go to bed. And thanks for letting me share a little bit about my daughter's namesake and my best bud, who I miss daily.

For both of you a question. I saw one of the songs performed (I actually think it was this one) on the Macy's parade one year and really thought I'd love to see Wicked. A friend loaned me the book. Now, I'm not a prude, but it really had some VERY risque' parts. Was the show anything like that at all or is it family friendly enough for a young teen? How about the soundtrack?

Definitely family friendly! There might be a few scenes that could be "frightening" to a smaller child, but a young teen would be fine. Everyone involved in the show certainly tried their hardest to make it a show that the entire family could enjoy.

Here is a video of my DD, DS, and me riding Expedition Everest. All I can say is he is not scared of anything. He absolutely loved it! You can hear him giggling and laughing thru just about the whole ride. Hope you enjoy!

Very cool, MadBrad!! I give it a "thumbs up" as well! :thumbsup2
I would really like to film a ride like that, but I would be so afraid that I'd drop my camera - how did you hold onto it?

For both of you a question. I saw one of the songs performed (I actually think it was this one) on the Macy's parade one year and really thought I'd love to see Wicked. A friend loaned me the book. Now, I'm not a prude, but it really had some VERY risque' parts. Was the show anything like that at all or is it family friendly enough for a young teen? How about the soundtrack?
I have the book as well.......and don't worry.....the show is not nearly as 'dark' as the book or inappropriate in any way. The show has a whimsical feel throughout.
My 10 and 12 year old have been hearing me sing every lyric since 2004. And my daughter held my hand through the whole show (we just saw it a couple of weeks ago) and she just hugged me and thanked me and we cried right after "Defying Gravity" (quite a show stopper).
The show is very funny, touching and actually teaches some nice lessons about what is important.
If you are at all unsure, you can view the entire show in portions on YouTube. Not the best quality, but you can get a real feel for the pace and tone of the musical.
Please let me know after you see it!!! You will love it, I am just sure of that!!!

My sister saw Wicked a few years ago in Chicago and told me how great it was. I've been dying to see it since then, but I think it's only been through Atlanta once.

MadBrad, I just went and viewed your EE video...how cool was that?! :thumbsup2 Can you do RnR for us next time? :rotfl:
I don't know how you held the camera the whole time---you got skillz, as they say! :cool2:
And now we know EE is about 3 minutes long. Not too shabby.

I really want to try this when we go in October!
In high school, I took a really cool picture from the front seat of a roller coaster at Great America right as it started to slowly go down the first drop - so cool! I can't imagine actually filming it.

That was awesome! Thanks MadBrad for posting it! I'll show it to my DD (11) who LOVES rollercoasters but for some reason was afraid of Everest? Maybe next time we'll get to ride it! :thumbsup2
DS is adorable too by the way....couldn't really see your DD, but I'm sure she's just as precious!
Thanks again....that was fun!

Sorry that I've been AWOL for a few days again, guys! I'm thrilled to see us up to page 16, though! It looks like - once again - I have some catching up to do.
(Let me add my hearty endorsement for Wicked here though. Fantastic production. I found it to be incredible in every way. And, it is very different in tone and such from the book. Whimsical throughout without losing it's sincerity. Great musical for the whole family!)
Now what? I guess I'll have to start back at the beginning and catch what I can! As for me - life has been busy as usual. We just launched a new worship service this weekend and we also had two performances of our annual children's musical. This coming weekend we are hosting a major local concert event and I still have a lot of details to pull together! SO - I haven't had a single day off work since I returned from the CMO trip. I"m not complaining, though! I love what I do and this is a small price to pay for the amazing opportunity I've been given!

No, I don't know yet. I'll keep you posted, though! And now that I have a decent digital camera and a video camera, I will try to improve my technical knowledge enough that I can post some videos and pictures somewhere for you to see!

LOVE the logo, by the way. Keep us posted on the copyright deal! I'd love to find a way to put that to good use on a t-shirt or luggage tag or something for one of my trips!

Well I'm back from the Mother's Day Tea. So cute..... They all made placemats for us where they wrote our name, how old we were, our eye and hair color, and our favorite food.
I'm happy to announce that I am only 22! :woohoo:
