Disney Dollars on cruise?

Can my kids use Disney Dollars on the cruise, such as in the arcade and gift shops? Thanks!:)

Disney dollars cannot be used in shops/arcades, but can be applied toward bill at guest services. My kids each had disney dollars with them on our recent cruise. They shopped in the gift shop and had it put it on our room bill. We then gave guest services the disney dollars, so it pretty much balances out. You can even apply the DD as a credit before it is even spent if you wish.

Disney Dollars cannot be used during the cruise. They can be used as currency for bill settlement at the end of the cruise.

Anyone know why Disney Dollars cannot be used in the shops??? Arrrggghhh, I've been bribing my kids with them, and the tooth fairy has been leaving them!

I also have been bribing my kids with Disney Dollars, and yes Santa and the tooth fairy have been leaving them also! I figured when they want to purchase a goodie in the shop, they can put it on the card, and then they can pay the amount at Guest Services that evening!!This way they can still think they are paying with their money and can budget their purchases also.:smooth:

It's not just Disney Dollars. The ship is "cashless", everything gets charged to your room. You can't use "regular" dollars in the shops either.

But, DCL is more than happy to take money in almost any form for your room charge account.

As long as they can be applied in the end that is great because they have been getting a lot of them too. Maybe it's better if they aren't walking around holding onto them anyway.

Disney Dollars cannot be used on the cruise in the shops because everything is charged to your room on your Key to the World card. I would suggest putting the Disney Dollars on your account earlier rather than waiting till the end of your cruise. Every time your account reaches a certain amount (not sure what amount is) they charge your credit card. I had 300.00 in Disney Dollars when we cruised in January and put this on my account before they charged my credit card. If you do not do this, and they have already charged your credit card, they will give you a credit on your credit card - it can be done but it is easier to take card of before hand. Also, as an FYI - you cannot use a Disney Gift Card at all. You also cannot use a Disney Gift Card in Downtown Disney.

I think the DD being applied to the account in the beginning is the way I want to go. I have already started a "collection" for our cruise this December. This might be an unthinkable scenario. but what would happen if you didn't use all the DD that you had applied to your account? Would they just hand the extra back to you? Just food for thought<G> I have too much time left to think of these things!:D
