PLANKY DOES PANAMA…Who would have thought…

Hi Everyone!!!

It’s me… back once more to entice you to follow along on my latest adventure!!!

The humans started talking months ago and before you knew it… my greenness :thumbsup2 was invited to cruise :boat: along with the Ship of Thieves pirate: on the May 10th Panama Canal Repositioning Cruise!!!! :yay: :yay:

I of course couldn’t WAIT to go on this trip and bothered my human minions at home, day and night until they shoved me in a box (hey, I thought it was in my contract that I fly 1st class…) and send me UPS (which of COURSE stands for United Planky Service…) (thanks Bendy…) on the first part of my journey…

I ended up in Glenville NY…

WHERE????

Yeah, I said the same thing…

Glenville NY… 20 miles west of Albany, Capital of NY and about 17 miles south of the REAL Saratoga Springs…


Anyway…fast forward…
On April 16th, my friend Michelle :hippie: poked her head in to say Good Morning to Barbara…aka Grammy B, her mom who was working diligently on the Fish Extender gifts to be given away… GB calmly noted that a package had arrived… “Now what did you order” she said…

“Um… nothing” responded Michelle (which in itself was a miracle since she’s been ordering almost nonstop for this trip…)

They looked at each other for a brief moment and the only thing they could think was….

PLANKY!!!!!! :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana:

They ran down stairs opened the door and this is what they saw….

Michelle gingerly picked my box up off the doorstep…

So… where was I??? Oh yeah… the front porch…

I couldn’t have picked a better trip than if I had won it on Wheel of Fortune!!! (And I don’t have to pay the taxes either…)

After I am finished here at Spa Glenville… I will travel first class to the fine airport of ORLANDO… where I will skip through Terminal A singing “I’m going to Disney World… & I didn’t have to win a Championship to get here!!!!”

I will check into my humble abode on the WDW property… go to all my favorite haunts (whether the humans in my life now want to or not…) wreak havoc and wonder where all the good food booths went in Epcot!!!

On the Morning of May 10th I am scheduled to be plucked from my very cozy bed, placed gently in a very comfy carry on where I will stowaway on the Disney Magic for 15 nights of pure bliss. (aka as ROOM SERVICE!!!)

JUMPIN JACK’S DRIVE-IN!!!!!!

Home of the Jack Burger… 2 all beef charbroiled patties, cheese, & coleslaw on a whopper like bun… pure grease heaven!!!!! Slimy yet satisfying… YUM… have some onion rings and a soda and you’re lookin at a whole night of indigestion…

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& They have Dole Whips there… not the fancy kind like they have at WDW, but you could get a twist and some sprinkles if you wanted. May I suggest the orange/vanilla twist… it’s a creamsickle kind blend of better and best…

After dinner we took a quick run across the Mohawk River to see a site you can ONLY see between the hours of 7 and midnight… cause you see… even though they bring good things to life… GE turns off the lights at 12…

This is the original first and foremost location for GE in this country… it all started here… Thomas Edison worked here!!!! This is history people!!! You usually have to watch TV to find out this kind of stuff…

Wherever I travel, I like to see the local sights.

Here in Glenville they have the local NY Air National Guard… The 109th Air Wing… the Snowbirds… Want to know why they call them that???? Cause they are the only crew in the whole wide world that can fly to the South Pole… Usually they supply the science station at the polar research sites. They are also the ones who went in to rescue the Doctor who had breast cancer. AND they are the crew who took Ann Curry of the Today show to Antarctica and Matt Lauer to Greenland…

Lately the have been training to return to Afghanistan as support troops.

They are based at Stratton ANG Base… Here I am with one of their planes that fly with skis…

They practice their touch and go landings… & they can CERTAINLY FLY LOW!!!! We were on the way to the mall the other day and as we were passing the end of the runway, that sucker buzzed us real good. EVER SEE THE BOTTOM OF A C130??? I did… from about 100 feet below the plane… through the moonroof of the car…

So… Bendy and Jay… I’m not sure how the food is and I’m sure that your DVC points won’t get you a great room, but how about we do this for a vacation one day???

There is a gem here in Scotia… it’s… Well… THE SCOTIA CINEMA!!!! Our local oneplex where 2 can go to the movies & get snacks served to you by an Elvis Impersonator… for the great price of about $12…

Welcome to Saratoga Springs... the REAL Saratoga Springs!!!!

Built in the 1864... all wood... (lots of sprinklers..). It's known as the Kentucky Derby of the North and it hosts a very swanky and fun season of racing between the end of July and Labor Day...The Travers Stakes takes place every August and often hosts all the winners from the Triple Crown!!! Aunt Shell likes to go hang out in the "backyard" area where lots of people come, bring their chairs and picnics and watch the racing.

People actually come here and fill up jugs and jugs of mineral water... We are about to pass CUBA!!!! We will be about 2 miles off shore...

Great cruise... WDW was HOT HOT HOT... literally... Aunt Shell slathered me up with lots of sun stuff, but I mainly hit the spa (no pics sorry... those women are picky!!!)

Had a great DIS meet... gee I must be popular... everyone wanted to get their grubby little hands on me... of course here on the ship... I made them wash up with hand wipes!!!

Sorry about the web cam... we were late getting into the first lock... We took off at about 7:10 am and we got through the first locks at Gatun at about 9:50.

We had to set our clocks back a bit - so I hope that helps too.

Next up is the cut and then onto the Miraflores Lock.

LOTS of big ships... I counted about 40 of them waiting in the bay for clearance. Mostly container ships. No other cruise that I could tell....

Some people slept on the deck last night.. but I like a/c!!!

They had the Narnia premiere onboard last night. I may go tonight after we are out of the locks.

Next up I'm looking for the 2 bridges.

Planky might have taken cover for a while today. The webcam did not crash. We actually were soooooo lucky and got to go through the canal with a United States Submarine all day! So I'm sure Planky was either hiding from the guys with the machine guns or basking in the sun!

The webcams were taken down when the sub was in the locks and we were just right behind the sub, thus our delay for the transit through the canal....guess the US Government has more clout than Planky or Mickey!

Also, because of the heightened security, the helicopter had to be cancelled and Shutters was not able to take arial pictures of the Magic in the canal. My guess is Shutters will probably put up some of the arials from 2005 with the 2008 date on them.

Okay, I'm headed to lobster dinner!:banana:

When we got back to NY, we found that the fridge had bitten the big one so of course I hopped my little green butt :thumbsup2 down to Roy Matthews (best bet for scratch and dents...) to buy Grammy B another one. I picked the biggest one I could find for $99.95... Ok.. so maybe there was another number before the first nine... I even got them to deliver it the very NEXT DAY!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

But I forgot the number one rule in buying anything that big... Ya know...that sucker missed sliding under the cabinet by 1/2 an inch!!!! Oh well...:confused3 so I hopped back down and picked out the smaller one... had it delivered inbetween my lunch out with the girls and even supervised the removal of the old one.

Want to bug the neighbors??? Leave one of these out in the driveway for a couple of hours!!!

You know how you get very excited about getting your cruise docs??? You can’t wait until they hit your front door… you try to guess the exact moment that UPS will be there??? You literally stalk the guy in brown??? Ok…on our cruise…everyone was excited that they got their docs… I…. got the UPS guy!!!

The following is sage advice for anyone thinking of going on a 2 week cruise…..

Just back the U-Haul up to the door and shove it all in!!!! Cause it ain’t gonna get into 4 suitcases!!!!

There had to be a reason why the limo guy didn’t show up when we got back… he was still recovering from the hernia he got on the first trip!!!

I left all the packing to Aunt Shell, who while she packs the entire house, can and does find every little tiny space in a duffle bag to pack more crap. Me… I went with Grammy B., in a very exalted place of honor… her carry on. Why didn’t I go with Aunt Shell???…you’ll see later, but all I can say is that they are lots of fun and we will be exchanging Xmas gifts this year… Aunt Shell tells everyone the cuddliest one is the BEST cervical pillow she’s ever had. The rest came along for the ride cause there were LOTS of mascots on this ship!!!

You know… after all of these trips I’ve taken… I’ve become a very good traveler. I even take my shoes off before I get to the airport… ::yes::

So I had this part down pat… I’d just curl up in Grammy B’s carry on and stay vewy vewy qwiet… until the coast was clear and they had stopped looking for stowaways. Or they served lunch… which ever came first.

We got through the port, onto the ship and discovered that by then… our stateroom would be ready for us to go to. I led the way to deck 7 to see our 1st class (ok.. just Cat 5) accommodations for the next two weeks!!!

I have finally decided that I want to go on the next 15 day panama canel cruise (hopefully next year), however the schedule for 2009 doesn't show a pc cruise.:( my question for you is... when was your cruise announced? Was it announced with all of the other cruises or later??:confused3 I finally got the family to agree to go, and now I don't know if there will even be a cruise:furious:

adri, there's hope for some special itinerary in 2010. Those will be announced anytime between early fall and next January. :confused3

I don't exactly remember the date the 2008 PC was announced, but booking opened up on Jan 31 (a night that will live in infamy). Several of the rumors for 2010 involve brining the Magic back to the West Coast, so there is hope for another PC crossing.

Wendy, your young one would be just the right age in 2010 for a crossing, and it would make a great school project. Several of the grade school kids on ours did special projects about the canal as their assignments. I don't exactly remember the date the 2008 PC was announced, but booking opened up on Jan 31 (a night that will live in infamy). Several of the rumors for 2010 involve brining the Magic back to the West Coast, so there is hope for another PC crossing.

Wendy, your young one would be just the right age in 2010 for a crossing, and it would make a great school project. Several of the grade school kids on ours did special projects about the canal as their assignments. You have a good point about the educational experience, if the cruise doesn't happen during testing, we'll have to seriously consider it.

I hope we have a "monsoon" this year. It breaks up the monotony of the summer heat. I love the storms. Unfortunately, they always seem to skirt us here and happen all around us.

Have you been enjoying the very red sunsets due to the "Ethan Fire?" The red of the setting sun has been pretty cool.

I was at the Cafe in International Drive, I was so lonely and boring. Finally, one family came and saw me. They took me to a lovely home. I didn't realised that far far away from Florida.

Now I am in Edinburgh of the Capital of Scotland.

One family called Scottishwee35 decided to adopted me and I don't live in USA anymore.

I saw the beautiful Castle, hills. What a beautiful country.

Only one thing that I missed beautiful weather in Florida was warm, humid sometime hot.

But in Scotland, the weather is absolutley freezing for me.

Sorry for the delay…

In between my book tour of the Amazon and my personal appearances, I received word that my trusty travel companion and editor, Aunt Shell had decided it was a very inconvenient time to pass a stone from her kidney….:scared1: I hear it’s very painful… I plan on never doing that experiment myself… although I hear Grammy B is taking good care of her and has fed her lots of pain killers and rainbow sherbet…:lovestruc

When we left all of you happy cruiser wannabees… I had mentioned that I was in love… :love: I gotta tell ya… Love at first sight… It’s REAL!!! Well it was for me…:cloud9:

After our day at Castaway Cay, I returned to our plush stateroom and freshened up… and made our way to Parrot Cay. It was also Mother’s Day where they had a wonderful looking cake in the entrance to the dining room but they had someone standing by who kept saying… “No…you can’t eat it”…

Great spoof on Planky and Tammy!

So, who are really your traveling mates for this cruise, or are you keeping them under wraps and secret until just before you depart? I can't wait to see them!

I wish I was going again, because I have come up with so many ideas and would love to out do myself! I guess those ideas will have to wait until my next cruise.

By the way, I loved the Mickey in the red wig doing Tammy, it sort of brought to mind when Milton Berl used to slap on a blond wig and spoof Marilyn Monroe, complete with a cigar!

May I suggest the following containers in which to bring such libations... The Beer Can Hat... a barrel stolen from a St. Bernard (please leave dog treats to bribe the dog...) or the ever popular Planky Green flask.:thumbsup2

I have heard that Mickey and Minnie ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo are married in real life but they pretend to be sweethearts as did many of the old-time movie stars.

The fans did not want them married because that meant they were not "available" so the marketing people had them pretend to be only dating.

The real life marriage :bride::groom: made their love scenes easier to handle and they were always cast opposite each other as that was less likely to break up a marriage.

(You know, many Hollywoodland marriages break up when the actors think they are in love with their current movie partner and later leave that one when they fall in love with their next movie partner.)

Tonight was our very first Formal Night…

I was excited… You see… a wonderful friend from my last cruise made me the BEST tuxedo I’ve ever had!!! :thumbsup2 Top hat and tails!!! What CLASS!!! (felt like Fred Astaire doing a tap dance through the Promenade Lounge!!! )

I ventured down to the atrium on my way to dinner… People looked downright spiffy…

There were some cruise mates who went a bit above and beyond (even me…) for our dinner tonight. I just LOVED this ensemble… a BEAUTIFUL Kimono…

First of all.. I went down to guest services and got her her birthday button. :thumbsup2 Can’t celebrate with out that now can we??? I had heard of the many FREE things you can get with Disney with this button… so I wanted to try it out…

It worked… she got desert every night of the cruise…. Just because it was her birthday!!!!!
