My name is GoingtoWDWAgain and I keep switching resort reservations......HELP!!!!!!!!!

First I had 7 nights at CSR and 7 nights at Poly....that was too $$$ so....
I switched it to the entire 14 night stay at WL and that was too much at one resort so........you guessed it I switched to 7 nights at CSR and 7 nights at WL and again switched to 9 nights at CSR and 5 nights at Poly (want that Poly stay) still didn't seem right so I switched again to 7 nights at Pop and 7 nights at Poly, and am still thinking of switching. Trip is for July 2 - 16, during the busy 4th of July. I'd rather stay at value or moderate resort first as these will be our major park days and end vacation with deluxe resort. We  the Poly but are trying our best to make it affordable for our budget, that is when I came up with split stay between Pop and Poly which is still a bit $$$. So, now I'm thinking  7 nights Pop and 7 nights WL, Contemporary or AKL  We've enjoyed previous trips at WL, love the monorail service from Contemporary to MK, Epcot and can eat at GF and Poly, never stayed at AKL but the food options don't seem appealing to us and the bus is a must to all parks :sad2:

Any suggestions/tips/ideas

For those that have switched and switched and switched resort reservations, please share your story popcorn::

Too funny. I was going to reply that I had been switching resorts too, but I in no way compare to you. ROFL:rotfl:
I have switched from 2 days at ASMu and 4 days at Poly, to all days at the Poly to now all days at the Yacht Club. A lot of switching for me.
I have this terrible habit of trying to SAVE experiences. I have wanted to stay at the Yacht Club but also wanted to SAVE it for when we have all 4 boys with us. This trip our oldest is not coming along.

I'll admit it! I usually end up with something totaly different than what I originally booked. Our original res. was for POFQ. Then we decided to try 4 days at POP and 4 at the Poly. Then free dining came out..." hey Hon, can we put the $$$ we're saving from 9 days of free dining towards our res. and just stay at the Poly?" Great idea as this was our first ever resort together and we absolutely love it there! Then there was a 'mishap" with one of our vehicles and after a storm last week we discovered that our roof now needs a little work. So now we're back to...you guessed it POFQ {except now we've lost our king bed res} All I can say is Sue Ellen from DU is a Saint! Unless we win the lottery we'll probably keep things as they are now! There's still hope for the Poly tho!

Oh sister, I feel your pain. It's a sickness, truly it is:

Last years trip
1. 8nights 2 rooms @ Pop with free dining (planning to rent out my DVC points to pay for it)

Decided since we owned DVC we should use it so

2. 1night at Beach club Villas and 5 nights at Old Key West 2 nights at Vistana

Decided that was too much moving so

3. 6nights at Old Key West and 2 nights at Vistana

Decided I didn't want to stay off property so

4. 6nights at Old Key West 2 nights at the Grand Floridian

Decided that was too much $$$ so

5. 6nights at old Key West 2 nights at All Star Music in the family suites:banana: .

I have made just as many changes with this years reservations...but I won't bore you with the details:rotfl2: .

I switched three times today alone.... I think I passed you for switching sometime last week! :lmao:

Seriously though, it seems like you really want Poly, and my new motto is: "If you really want Poly then book Poly." I, of course, have booked Poly a grand total of three times now but the cost keeps getting me to switch back to POFQ! :scared1:

Good luck!! I hope you enjoy wherever you end up!

Well let's see. I started with 6 nights at the Poly. Then I added a night. Then I changed my dates and changed to Pop. Then I got a PIN and upgraded to CSR. Then I changed it to Pop and WL. Then I changed to CR. Then I switched to Poly again. And now my final outcome it....4 nights at Pop and 6 nights at Poly. :dance3:

Haha... luckily I still haven't made any reservations. I'm not going until next January so I still have a bit of time...

Here's my path...(let me pull up my excel worksheets)
Originally I wanted to stay at AKL Club Concierge and do either the Sunrise or Sunset Safari. It was going to be a 6night/7day stay.
Good right? but a bit pricey.
So I decide Hey what about a split stay - so I considered a split stay between AKL and a Mod. I think at that point I was thinking CBR...
Still the numbers seemed high... we're a couple of starving college students... so I thought ok maybe a Mod the whole time wouldn't be too bad.

I ran the idea past DF and he said he wanted our honeymoon to be special, so he wanted to stay in a nice room. I tried to explain that it would be nice anyways... but he insisted.

Then I thought...hmm... maybe we don't NEEEED to stay Concierge... maybe if we stay in a Standard room we'd still be deluxe, but not to expensive. But in the back of my mind I was thinking maybe we'll get a complimentary upgrade which is not healthy thinking. If we got there and didn't get one, then I would probably be disappointed, so how about splitting it between Standard the first half, then Concierge the second.

Then I was introduced to the Wilderness Lodge Honeymoon Suites. For the low low price of $405/night I could have my very own Jacuzzi. Tempting? Yes.
Also, around this time my mother convinced me that I should do a 10 day trip, not just 7, which of course I thought was a fabulous idea.
So 10 days at Wilderness Lodge maybe Honeymoon Suite, maybe not.

Then I decided that still might be a little steep price wise. I really should probably do a split stay with something else. Port Orleans seemed just right, besides I had never been to Downtown Disney, and it would give me the chance.

Then DF went into the ROTC office and told the administration lady that we're planning on Disney for our honeymoon... she flipped, and was surprised that we weren't staying in SoG. Apparently, cadets qualify. DF told me this and I told him that we can't stay there, because they don't have a King bed option, but I still ran the numbers, and looked at the pictures, but ultimately it was a no. Maybe in a few years when we have kids it will be a nice option, but now... I want a King bed.

Anyways... I'm not sure what the rest of my train of thought has been, but right now this is my plan:

I'm going to book sometime in June, (before DF leaves for officer training) a split stay between POFQ (King Bed) and Contemporary (King Bed - Garden Wing)

Which is how it will stay unless:
1. I convince myself that's too much money.
2. I get an amazing pin number.
3. An awesome code comes out
4. A million people add money to my registry.

If it's any of the bottom three that might mean a resort upgrade, or I might decide that I'd rather spend the extra money on something else... like parasailing... or a Richard Petty Driving Experience for DF...

If it's the top one, then I don't know what I'll do... probably cry. I think I could handle re-evaluating my plans for upgrades... but downgrades... maybe not.

My dream is to stay in a Poly Honeymoon Suite, but that would require both tons of money in the registry and a pin/code.

Anyways... I expect that considering the number of times I've changed my mind until this point... I will probably change my mind a million more times once I've booked.

I know I'll be satisfied with whatever I end up with though... because I'm going to Disney and I have never stayed on the property before.

This will be my first trip. Started out at POR, as it would be a total of 5 of us, one being 6 mos old and 1 being 3 years old, so the three year old could sleep in the trundle bed.
Then changed to a family suite at ASM. Then my son in law got his orders to go to two training sessions, three weeks each, which one of is occuring during our trip. So.....
changed to POFQ...lol
I was worried about my sanity until I read this thread...I feel SO much better, thank you very much!!!
Now if only I could stop changing my ADR's....lol.

To the OP, you are not alone! In the last 3 months, I have switched our resort ressies 3 times! We started out at Pop but I thought my folks wouldnt be comfortable, so then I switched to CBR, but I didnt like how the resort was so spread out, and I changed it to POR. I'm hoping its the last time...time will tell!:thumbsup2

Karen :flower3: LOL Sounds just like me!!!!! OK, I haven't actually called to make the switch to Poly...but I keep toying w/ it. We are booked for 8N at POFQ. I've always wanted to stay at a monorail hotel. We're traveling 11/28-12/6 so I can't START my vaca'n there as it will be even BIGGER bucks over Thanksgiving...but the rest of my stay goes into Value season so maybe then???? But then I think we'll be doing MK toward the early part of the week and that's when I'd want to be at a monrail hotel. :scared1: ..but to change rooms 3 times for 8nights is a bit much! Then I think, ok, how about 5N at the Poly and only 3 at POFQ to start our trip. But MAN...the cost of the Poly keeps coming back to haunt me. Will it be worth it? Or worse, will we love it so much I won't want to go back to a moderate??? Our children will be 6 and 9. This would be a great time to splurge on the Poly...or the Contemporary. I've always wanted to do that too. But thinking of the increased cost and what it could buy in terms of food, or trader pins, or souvies....I just stick w/ POFQ. Darn this is tough!!!!

You don't know how good this thread is making me feel right now! We are DVC members and have always stayed at Old Key West, sometimes adding a night to the beginning or end of our trip at a Value or Moderate. This year we decided to try something different and booked at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We were all satisfied, my boys had to be convinced - that surprised me I thought they would like that resort. So for 4 months we were content, and now with 3 months to go nobody wants to stay there - it's too far from everything, there are no sports (bball, tennis courts), there is no big walk in shower (hubby's complaint - OKW spoils him!) So now we are looking at the other DVC resorts. We looked at Beach club and it sounds really nice except there is no bus to Epcot or MGM.....Hollywood Studios and I have trouble walking long distances and don't want to waste my available walking time getting to the parks. Ditto with Boardwalk. Wilderness Lodge - again no sports stuff. So now we are looking at going back to our beloved and familiar Old Key West, or possibly Saratoga Springs. Unfortunatley, althought we have changed our minds a thousand times I haven't gotten anyone to settle in on one idea long enough to actually change our ressie. You don't know how nervous I am that if I cancel our AKL rooms that somewhere between cancelling it and booking the new rooms that they will all fill up and we'll be screwed!!:scared1:

However I think I have finally hit upon a solution that will have me staying put for a while and that's if (1) I can get the money together up front before calling to change to Poly again, (2) IF I can get together another $500.00 for spending money - then I can change it to Poly. Again. For the fourth time.

Do you think that will work? :badpc:

You and I could be twins :rotfl2: I have changed from WL to POFQ to AKL to Poly (Lord willing STAYING there )....we're staying for 9 days and it's quite $$ :scared1: however, my boys will be 4 and 6 and I know it's the PERFECT time for them to stay at Poly. I just a still a bit in awe of the cost!!!! We're getting FD so that helps ease the sting of it some. I'm just going to not spend so much on souvenirs b/c really, my kids have more stuff than they know what to do with. I'm sure we'll buy some stuff, but I'm scaling that WAY back this trip due to our resort choice. Good luck in your decision!

I promised dh this would be a cheap trip for dd#1's b-day / free dining.

Started with ASMusic preferred for 5 nights.

Got the free dining and added a night at the beginning and 4 at the end (total of 10 nights).

Upgraded to POFQ

Changed to CSR

Realized I could pay for BBB and MNSSHP if we went back to ASMusic

Decided I would prefer POP b/c we actually "checked it out" on our last trip - got preferred

Switched to POP standard

Dropped down to 7 nights

Added another night to the end

So.....as of now......POP standard for 8 nights w/ free dining.

Clear as mud, right?!?!?!

Well lets see it went something like this. March booked 10 night stay at Poly Club Level. Then decided what the heck lets get annual passes and go a second time since we are celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary in December. So called AAA and booked the Poly Club level for 12 nights. Next along comes sister in law and niece in Fl who we haven't seen in years and I decide to be nice and invite them to join us in May for a long weekend our treat. So booked CL Poly for them. Then got cold feet about the Poly having never stayed there and swithched sister in laws and ours to GF with MK view. Then along came some nice folks who reassured me that the Poly would be great and we really like CL and GF had none avaliable so back to the Poly we go. Now mind you I am not moving just one group of people I am moving two. Then I think well in December it would be really nice to be in the GF Cl so a room opens up and yep you guessed it over to the GF we go for CL. Well over the last two weeks the cost of staying at the GF club level has been eating at me and I just don't think I can justify this amount of money so back to the Poly Club level we go with out December reservations.
Now we leave tomorrow for Poly Club level but in the back of my mind is well if we get there and are disappointed I better take AAA's number with me so I can call and move my December reservations to who knows where so now the wait begins and I know my agent at AAA would shutter if she knew I was even contemplating moving again :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have switched back and forth a few times...beleive me, you are not by far the only one!!! :rotfl: It actually drives me nuts at times, because I think I am all set, and then something happens. One thing is that I usually try a different resort that I would seem interested in.

I am still going crazy with my present dilema. We are going in Jan 2009 and I originally wanted to stay at AKL. Well, my DH then told me that if we stay at a mod, we could stay longer. So, instead of staying 7 nights at AKL, we are going to stay 10 nights at POFQ. But, the clincher is that right not I am holding a room only at FQ, but when the 2009 package rates come out, I just may be able to get a good rate from AAA, so you never know.....AKL just might not be out of the picture yet.

It is just a hassel having to make all of these resort decisions!!!

I just can't justify a whole trip at either CR or Poly...but 2 or 3 nights...maaaaybe. :rotfl2: This is driving me nuts. And I keep thinking of the check the gov't will be sending soon and saying, hmmmmmm w/ it...I could do MORE nights at either hotel.......

Hello fellow switchers!

Guess what I did today? You got it - I switched again. I was staying at POFQ for 9 nights and paid off the trip in full this morning! And then it happened.... I was just looking on the Disney website at "possible" deals about an hour ago, trolling for a room at WL for my dates (I can only afford a Standard at WL which was part of the problem) when it happened....

WL popped up, Standard view but who cares? For, get this.... $516.00 more than what I had just finished paying at POFQ. Two days less for the trip, but that boat to the MK is a huge thing for me. So I booked it. Of course. But then the two "missing" days were bugging me so I added an EXTRA day onto the WL ressie and then booked a separate "room only" for the FW campground for two nights! So now I'm going to take one day off WL (I think) to make up the cost of the campground. :confused3

I really need to be committed to an institution for this. I will NEVER try to book a trip for FD ever again!

And as an aside..................................

Hi ms.ojo!

I have tables, a chart, and a few spread sheets. I've been trying to compile them into one excel spread sheet complete with embedded $$ cells for ease of use, but I'm not quite done yet... wonder why?!?!?! :rotfl2:

As soon as I finish it I'll send you a copy - seriously!

I feel so much better, thanks for all your stories popcorn:: My DH has had it with my switching and only wants to know when I pick the final two resorts we will be staying at, till then he doesn't want to hear a thing about my switching. I currently have Pop for seven nights and Poly for seven nights but am still debating on switching the seven nights at Poly (really don't want to change) for WL or AKL or even Contemporary (which has only club level rooms = too much for our budget)to save a few $$$, unless  some AP rates for July come out.......here we go again :sad2:

don't get me wrong... it is not a bad thing...
I got this room at *** on spring discount and could not resist a quick trip....
usually I stay at Port Orleans....have stayed at GF before.... and offsite...
I think this resort is very kid friendly and good use of space...
but I always think I want to be closer to something I am not....even at GF I said if I wanted an "epcot" trip I would not stay at GF

Anyway...I'll think about it in my sleep...:rolleyes1

My son is 12, we have been going to Disneyworld once every year since he was 6 years old. I tend to believe, after reading these boards & all other Disney sites, the more you make changes to your reservations, the greater the risk that there will be a mistake when you arrive.

So, in that being said, I never make changes after I make my reservation. I make sure when I get ready to make that reservation online thru Disney (I have always done mine every year thru disneyworld.com) that I am committed to those days. We go either the 1st or 2nd week in December every year, so as long as I don't go the week Pop Warner is there, I am good. :santa: :santa: :santa:
