We didn't (I don't camp well) but close friends just returned from a 9 day/8night trip in a pop-up camper. They LOVED Ft Wilderness. Just raved about it. We've eaten and walked around there and it's quite tranquil and beautiful.

They felt the facilities were the best out of any KOA, etc. they have ever camped at (they camp alot).

There's a huge amount of info over on the Camping board. Our friends researched there quite a bit before leaving.

I camped there once over 20 years ago and loved it! You should check out the "Camping at Disney" forum!

I'd definitely check out the special Camping board. I grew up going to WDW and staying at FW. So last year when DH and I took our daughter for her 1st Disney trip, I had to show them Fort Wilderness. It's a very large campground, with individual loops where the campsites are located off of the main road. That road goes from the resort's entrance down to Pioneer Hall. The price per night depends on the location of your campsite. Transportation is by boat or bus. I think you can reach WL from FW through walking trails. I"m not sure exactly the types of questions you have, but if you can't find them on the separate board, just fire away. I absolutely loved staying here growing up and plan to rent a cabin here one day.

Some things to know - there's lot to do at FW. There's pools, bike trails, segway rentals (cool!), walking trails, boat rentals on Seven Seas Lagoon, beach, canoe rentals for the stream, restaurants, nightclub, 2 gift shops and camp provision store, farm, Mickey's Backyard BBQ, movies, Hoop de do Revue, and night time water show. The bathrooms are clean and of course there's full hookups and cable. Lots of regulars decorate their campers and sites for Christmas, and that's something to see.

Lisa,

Camping at FW is wonderful. It's hard for some people to go back to the regular resorts after staying at the Fort. There is so much to do there that we make sure we have some days we don't plan on going to any of the parks. Horseback riding, bike riding, canoes and kayaks, planned activities, swimming, Chip and Dale campfire program, golf cart rentals, wagon rides, the Hoop Dee Doo Review.

Taking the boat to the MK is wonderful. The Trail's End restaurant onsite offers a family friendly buffet as well as some carry out choices. There are two Trading Posts with soveniers as well as basic camping supplies.

You can see the fireworks from MK as well as the electric water pagent on the beach at FW.

If you check out the stickys at the top of the camping page you will find lots of useful information. There are also several "picture" threads.

Hope this helps :)

RIDISNEYLOVER/Lisa,

Your thread has been moved to the right place. Cruise our board and you will find all the info you need.

You will also determine quickly the "personalities" of the posters on the FW/Dis board. Some, like Shannone, are earnest, true, and helpful. Our tireless moderators are also polite and honest.

Then we come to some of the more energetic, need I say, juvenile, members of the board. :confused3 You've already met some of them on this thread. They mean well but they bring their playfullness onto any thread and keep the conversations/insults/compliments right on going jumping from thread to thread.

I took pity on you and thought I should explain. My DW's name is Lisa so I thought I would butt in.

Okay, I'm gone now. You may resume your regular postings! Class, I'm going to the office for a moment - be on your best behavior for the new girl today. :teacher:

His name is Sam. My DD says in this picture he's alive but after 4 years in a row of being crowned the ugliest dog in the world, sorry to say he will no longer be winning any ugly contests. RIP Be careful what you wish for Rog...lol

Isn't that the dog that won the world's ugliest dog contest? Anyway, back to the Fort---we just returned from our first camping trip at the Fort. We have done hotels three times before. This was the best--hands down! Someone gave you a good description of all that is available there, so I won't go into that, but we all loved it and can't wait to go back!

Better make your ressies now! The fort fills up fast!

(Maybe I can find some more ugly dogs...)

Let's get this back on topic please! The OP asked a serious question. :goodvibes

Camping at Fort Wilderness is wonderful!! That's why there are so many happy people on this board! Do you have a camper or a tent?

bord1niowa

I cmaped there 2 years ago. Last year we tried the all stars but we missed the Fort so back to it this yerar. It's everythjing you could hope for in a campground and then some. Peaceful, yet many activities, and the greatest fellow campers and CMs. You'll be hooked....

I've camped at the fort 4X...and I don't think I will ever want to go anywhere else....its your home away from home...and your so close to MK and the buses to and from the other parks are great!

By the way...does anyone else think the goat picture looks like yoda? I swear that thing is from the movie...maybe a relative, cousin maybe?:rotfl:

Well, being you are a stranger I can't tell you everything about my camping trips to the Fort. One, it would be waaaayyyyy tooooo much information and two, I would never be allowed back.

I have been camping at the Fort since it Darn near opened it seems. I have seen the changes, some good, some bad over the years but it is still the best place to camp. Of course, I only live 2 1/2 hours away so it makes it easy.

You will not be sorry you chose to camp at the Fort.:thumbsup2
