Runners World has a feature each month on a runner's "rave run" -- a favorite spot for a run. I'd be interested in seeing photos of your training areas, whether you think it qualifies as a rave run or not.

I'll start -- please join in.

Though I do most of my training on my treadmill, when it's time for hill work, I head to Raven Rock State Park's Campbell Creek Trail. Here are a few photos.

The Campbell Creek bridge leads to the 5 mile (hilly) loop.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/raven_rock/campbell_creek_bridge.jpg

There's always wildlife -- and often wild flowers.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/raven_rock/owl.jpghttp://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/raven_rock/wildflower2.jpghttp://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/raven_rock/wildflower.jpg

The trail is so steep at times that they have installed stairs.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/raven_rock/hill_work.jpg

There are beautiful views of the Cape Fear River and the creeks feeding into it.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/raven_rock/cape_fear.jpg

But for the bulk of the trail, all you have to worry about is the normal "roots and rocks."
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/raven_rock/wooded_path.jpg

My favorite part of the walk is getting to "the split tree", which marks where the hills end and the trail flattens for the last 1/10 of a mile or so.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/getnthinr/raven_rock/hilltop.jpg

Now, get out there with your camera and show me your favorite running/walking routes!

I borrowed all of these pictures from somewhere else. However, if I ever get a small camera I may take it with me on some of my runs out there. I have seen some of the craziest things. Cows (this is the trail where I refuse to run 7 miles because every time I do the cows are out), Pigs, Deer, snakes, turkeys, etc. But in the fall, when all the leaves are falling it is one of the most beautiful trails ever!!

Wendy, great idea.

Mark and I ventured to the trail this morning for 3 miles. It looks a lot like what your pictures do. A bit muddy here and there but overall it wasn't too bad.

I usually do the track and save the trail for when it's hot. It is almost completely shaded when all the leaves are out. Probably in a couple of weeks.

I'll try and get some pictures next time.

Wendy - What a beautiful spot. I feel like heading down just to get to run that trail.

It's a great trail -- one of several in that park. It's largely undeveloped -- meaning there are no paved trails and modest facilities -- but I love heading out there.

I need to get some pictures. I have 2 favorite spots depending on my mood--one is FLAT the other HILLY. the hilly one is exactly a 5k loop around a lake with about a mile of trail and the rest paved with some serious hills. its a nature preserve/park and is gorgeous. the other is a flat paved trail that starts on the island in the middle of the susquehanna river here--then you go across the bridge and you run up along the river for about a total of 3.5 miles or so (so down and back if you do the entire thing will get you about 7 miles). its nice as the harrisbrug road runners have marked off the distances so you can do speed work etc. along the path. the bad part is on nice weekend days, unless you get there early it can get crowded with bikers, runners and walkers.

Ala Wai canal in Waikiki, an occasional route for us. That's Diamond Head crater in the background.

You can usually see outrigger canoe clubs and kayakers out practicing on the canal. But you'd never want to swim in it because it's polluted.

This is the tail end of my Sunday runs with the Honolulu Marathon Clinic. Photos are of Kahala Ave., where million dollar mansions line both sides of the road. Kahala Ave. and the backside of Diamond Head is our "heartbreak hill" in the marathon. It's from mile 22.5 to 25 steadily up a grade.

Jeff, awesome photos! So glad to see someone post to this thread again. I love the idea of seeing the conditions other WISHers run in.

Lily, I am completely in awe of you and your snowy long run. I wouldn't even know how to dress for weather like that! Certainly in NC we don't have the conditions Jeff runs in -- guess that's why they call it paradise! -- but typically the worst weather I walk in requires long tights and a couple of layers. You're a wonder!!!!

OK, it's not as pretty as Jeff's pictures, but this is St. Simons Island. I always forget to read the tide tables, so I just run to the beach to see if I can go back on sand or sidewalk! ;) This was a sidewalk run, but still a pretty view.

Jeff - Awesome photos..as to be expected! I would love to run in such a beautiful place!

Lily - Your running spot looks neat, too! We have coyotes here as well. I had a pair of coyotes run right in front of me one morning recently. They are pretty scared of people around here but still, it can be scary to come across those while out.

I'm jealous! You guys have beautiful and interesting routes. I run in a rather boring suburban setting.

This is the Minuteman Rails to Trails path. It runs from Bedford, MA to Cambridge and is 11 miles long. I have run the length and back... many moons ago....

Sunny I love the pictures of the Minuteman trail. If I still lived in MA (born/raised Danvers, school Medford & Cambridge) then I would out there for sure! Maybe when I come home for my summer visit I'll get a chance to check it out. I'm going to go look for the exact route

Ok so I am going to join in here. I love the trail Sunny posted - actually all the pictures posted so far have been amazing. I think the most important thing is getting out, getting in the exercise and enjoying nature.

This is a little .7 mile sidewalk that is across the street from my work so I occasionally go over there and walk on my lunch break - I put on my running shoes and put my cell phone in my pocket - but I don't change into work out clothes so I can't get too sweaty. There is also a 2 mile trail that goes over on the other side of the road and actually passes right by the back of my work. I haven't done that much of it yet since I don't have that much time on my lunch break to do it all - I would need to go there on a weekend.

This was Thursday - I did actually take off running a few times and remember saying to myself I  running (actually I said it out loud!!) These pictures aren't as beautiful as others pictures here but at least it gets me out of work and gets me active at lunch time.

Most people think of this as NJ. They don't get to see the real New Jersey.

If you are ever coming to NJ let us know and we'll show you the REAL New Jersey.

Tricia,

I like your work trails. They are better then what I have. I work in an area that is more city-like then where I live. Last night on my run down the street I encountered 5 deer and several bats. I tried to get my iPhone out to take of picture of the deer but they took off.

I agree with you about it doesn't matter where you are as long as you are out there moving forward.

Later,
