Every year, DH takes our three sons on a camping trip. Every year, my 16 year old daughter and I stay home. You see, to the princess and the queen of this castle, staying offsite at Dis-a-nee is camping. That's as close to the outdoors as we will ever get. princess: princess:
I put my royal foot down this year and said that it was time that Chloe and I had the chance to get out of town. DH and our little princes can hold down the fort this year.
After that royal decree, the next step is deciding what accomodations the little girl will be happy with. Did I mention she was fussy? It seems that there are no annual passholder codes available for Memorial Day weekend. $370 for a standard room at the Yacht Club! :scared1: I am really a cheapskate at heart. I travel well but I don't feel well paying rack rate.
But look. The Dolphin is having an early booking special. $169 a night and we get to take the same fancy boats and busses as the people paying for the $370 room do. That will work. Of course, if a little discount comes out for the Yacht Club, I'll drop the Dolphin like an old fish. This will be my little backup resort while I wait for the annual pass rates to be released.
I book plane tickets for a Tuesday night arrival. Yes, I know, that's leaving for Disney on the 20th and Memorial Day is on the 26th. So the trip is starting out as not just Memorial Day weekend, although it does fall inside the travel dates so we're good. I do not book return tickets because I can't decide when we'll return.
The next step will be to tell Princess Chloe. :dance3:

Next step - tell the princess that we are returning to her beloved 'World' for our special getaway weekend. Well, not quite yet.
Chloe and I had discussed getting out of town for Memorial Day weekend before I had the idea of going to Disney. I had originally proposed shopping near Philadelphia or a weekend in NYC. So she is anticipating a trip, not a vacation.
I've paid for the airfare down to Orlando...$54 each on Airtran for the last flight out Tuesday night. $54! That's cheaper than a pair of shoes! But now I have buyer's remorse.
Here's how my Disney brain has a short circuit:
I should have bought the Tuesday morning flight. We'll have to go standby for that 6AM flight. Well, that means either leaving the house around 3 a.m....OR...we could stay at the nice Hilton next to the airport the night before. That will work.....A few days go by and I'm happy with my decision to try to fly standby Tuesday morning. But what if I don't get the standby flight and I've paid for a hotel at the airport and gotten up so early for nothing. And why am I flying down Tuesday morning? She's already missing 5 days of school...if I add just one more day on Monday, then I can fly down Saturday morning and make my trip four days longer! Southwest just so happens to be running a very reasonable flight out of BWI Saturday at midday. See, the money that I'm wasting by not taking the Airtran flight, I am saving by not needing a hotel the night before. So, I book the Southwest.
So now, if you're doing the math, that's flying down Saturday the 17th and staying until (still undecided) at least the 25th. We have two sets of one way tickets TO Florida and none coming home.
I really should tell her now that we're going to DisneyWorld to get her excited. But then I have yet another bright idea. She doesn't know that we're going yet. I wonder how long that I can keep it a secret?

Budget. Ick. That's a bad word when it comes to Disney trip planning.
This trip is getting out of control. I took a seemlessly harmless girl's getaway weekend and pumped it up into an extended week long vacation. The Disney fanatic in me says  but the mom guilt at spending all this money without including all the kids says :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: .
We are at Saturday the 17th thru Memorial Day *the 26th.* I really need to buckle down on expenses. For Saturday thru Tuesday, I've booked:
- the Pop Century at a whopping $11 a night savings with my annual pass. Dining plan added. Don't you just love the new weekend surcharge for Disney resorts?!
- the Wilderness Lodge for two nights (Tuesday thru Thursday) with a great annual passholder rate that gives me about 40% off a standard view room. Dining plan included.
-the Dolphin for five nights at $169.
Not too shabby.
I do have to come home eventually and decide to *here's a shocker* add another day at the end of my trip and fly home the 27th. Fortunately, the friendly man at the end of the Sheraton reservations number is able to oblige and add another night at the Dolphin with the same great rate. YAY!
The flight home is booked. The flights down are booked. The grand total is less than the cost of buying her a decent used car. Now I just need to come up with a way to tell Chloe.
I spend an entire Saturday afternoon staring at videos on Youtube and tearing up. Watching the happiness on the faces of other people's children inspires me to figure out a way to come with my own fantastic video worthy of posting on Youtube. Think. Think. Think. Nothing.
I try to conjure up some inspiration with the closest thing to being at Disney World - the Disney Outlet. They have the Disney look and the sounds of Disney blasting on the televisions. And I can browse thru all the beautiful Cinderella and Tinkerbell costumes and think.
I got nothin' :sad1:
With three weeks to go, I've got plenty of time to come up with a jaw dropping, tear jerking, inspirational reveal to end all reveals.

In the midst of planning this getaway, Disney released it's Free Dining promotion for 2008. I booked a trip for the family for September and told Chloe that we are going in September (true). The beauty of that is that I can now read my Unofficial Guidebook and research allearsnet menu listings out in the open. All of this planning and research that I am doing is really for the May trip but she's none the wiser.
About a month before the scheduled trip, Chloe starts questioning me about our getaway. She wants to know if I've decided if we're going to Philadelphia or NYC. We're flying out of BWI and the only way to get her to the airport without her suspecting anything is to tell her that we are going to spend the weekend in Inner Harbor Baltimore. She is really disappointed and tells me that she does NOT want to go to Baltimore. She says that there are no good places to shop there. I tell her that it's a big city so we can go to some nice restaurants, stay in a nice hotel, maybe go to the aquarium....none of this makes my spoiled little girl happy. She sulks and I almost feel bad about lying to her.
A few days after the less than successful conversation about going to Baltimore on our getaway, Chloe finds out that the pain in her leg that she has had when playing soccer is actually a STRESS fracture! Guess what? She's going to be on crutches for at least two weeks and cannot have any strenuous activity for the next SIX WEEKS! There is only one way that I visit Disneyworld - on a mission and in a hurry! I am a complete touring commando! How do you tour Disneyworld without having strenuous activity?
What do I do? How do I plan for this? I do what most normal, Disney loving people do here. I consult with my Disboard friends and seek advice. Here's the thread that I started on the night that I found out that she had the stress fracture.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1803755
One thing's for sure. It's a good thing that I have an extended tour planned. If we're going to take this trip at a snail's pace, we're going to need 10 days to tour 4 parks.

I have so many ideas on how to tell Chloe that we are going to Disneyworld.
I found a Cinderella journal and I thought about writing her a little story like "Once upon a time, there wa a princess named Chloe....." But when will I give it to her? The minute she sees it, she'll know something's up.
Last night, I was cleaning out the kitchen and I tossed three fortune cookies in the trash. Then I had an idea. I could get a bunch of fortune cookies and find one that had a large opening and slip a little fortune inside like "You will go to Disneyworld tonight."
Tonight, as I was sitting here 'studying' for my trip, the Orlando commericial came on TV. It's the one with the Mom and the daughter and they go on BTMR. After the ride, the mom becomes a kid again. That made me think "I could videotape the commerical and then have my DH tape me telling Chloe that she was going to Disney."
It's getting seriously close to the trip. Tomorrow when I wake up, I'll be able to say "I'll be in Disney next week!" 13 days and ticking. I have to make up my mind and quick.

Great PTR so far. I am very excited for you two.
I am sorry that Chloe has a stress fracture. I would definetly go with the Electric scooter - I read your other thread were you said she may not be able to handle it. They are not that hard and it's like another ride ;) , but if you are hesitant about it then go with a wheelchair so as not to stress it more. It could be her Royal Transport:rotfl2: (BTW I am planning a weekend trip to Hershey Park in Aug - Would you say there is alot for a 5 year old to do?)
As far as going commando, (or in this case not going commando), I can't give you any advice but I do want to ask you about, how you go commando. I read the UG cover to cover and I plan to go commando myself. Do you have any tips? (maybe I'll start a thread). What I can say is at least you have your Sept trip to make up for whatever you miss this time.
I like your commercial idea. Were you planning on surprising her on your day of departure or before?
I am planning a trip for Nov for which I started my first-ever PTR and originally I was going to surprise my DS5 by secretly packing our bags and then waking him up on the day of departure (we have an unbelievably early flight) and hand him a postcard that I designed saying "Your Carriage awaits (look out the window)" When he looks out he will see a stretch Limo) possibly with the driver holding up a sign saying "The _____ Family is heading to Disney") . Then I'd give him his wrapped gift that contains a tshirt matching what DH and I were wearing.
In the end our trip is not a surprise because I just couldn't keep the secret after he saw me on the Dis, day in and day out.
If you want maybe you can use this for your suprise:
http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u239/jillosphotos/DISigns/bizeemom4.jpg I can change the hair for you to match the both of you.
I look forward to hearing about what you do to surprise her.

Well if she can't be running around like crazy at home, Princess Chloe should be able to enjoy VIP treatment from a wheelchair or scooter. Too bad you aren't staying on a monorail hotel, that would make it easier this trip.
Maybe you could have some luck making a little song that you record in a hallmark card. I saw that they have recordable cards. Try this little jingle
M I C K E Y C H L O E or you could record some Disney tunes inside like "Think of a wonderful thought, any happy little thought" since she likes Tink. :lovestruc
I also was hoping that they would release last minute passholder rates for Memorial Day. I guess they are counting on people spending their tax refunds for a "weekend" trip.

I ended up telling Chloe's oldest brother (DS15) about the trip last night- after swearing him to secrecy on his Dad's life (does that make me an evil mother)? He said that the whole thing sounds awesome and he told me that I really should be staying at the Grand Floridian! He said that I should take her to the tea @ the GF and get hair and nails done too. What 15 year old boy suggests that his sister deserves to go to a spa?
He told me that we could do a movie on the computer. I, being completely technically challenged, did not realize that our computer had the capability to make videos. I had him show me how to do it and I spent all of today making this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4qM2B7Ggfg
I really want to wait until we get to Baltimore to tell her. Unfortunately, I put it on a CD and the portable DVD player that I have does not recognize the file. The sound on my laptop does not work. I can play the CD on the laptop but can't hear the music - which is part of the whole effect! What to do?

As we are all spending every waking moment planning for Disney (we are all doing that, right?), half the fun is in the anticipation of the trip to come. Making the lists, compiling the printouts for the tickets and hotels, nagging DH to get the suitcases out of the attic.
I am happy to report that my countdown preparations have reached that pinnacle moment. I have already made the obligatory trip to WalMart to obtain the sunscreen, book for the pool, and pool noodles. My boss thought I was insane for bringing my own pool noodles to Disney. Look, I've already spent thousands of dollars. Every 75 cents saved by bringing my own supplies instead of paying the opportunity tax of waiting til I get there is, well 75 cents saved.
The days have been so cold here. It felt so awesome to go thru the checkout with pool noodles, sunscreen, reading materials and a new bikini. Good Lord, not for me. For the skinny girl who's going with me. But it was fun to pretend like it was for me. I am cutting the tags off of the suit before I stick it in DD's suitcase. If she new it was from WalMart, she absolutely would not wear it. Maybe I'll cut some tags out of her Abercrombie stuff and sew them in. Then, she'll be proud to strut around in her nice, new "expensive" bathing suit.

I'm starting to think I'm not such a great mom. The trickery and deceit is just getting too much.
She has finally accepted that we are going to Baltimore for our get-out-of-town weekend. So much so that she was on expedia with me tonight looking at hotels. I really hope that she's not disappointed that we aren't really staying at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel. That's the hotel that I'm supposed to be reserving tonight.
I took the CD to Circuit City and tried out new portable DVD players but I can't get the video to play on any of them.
If I could just figure out how to fix the sound on the laptop, that would be the way to go. If not, I guess I'll figure out plan C. I'm going to Google the issue and see if I can find a solution. The answer will probably be written by a 12 year old and I'll be lost before the end of the first sentence. Did I say I was so not computer savvy? Wish me luck!
Edited to add - I FIXED THE LAPTOP! Fin + Page Up did the trick. For those of you that really understand computers, stop laughing.

We leave today! We leave today! Did I tell you we leave today?
A few weeks ago, in a moment of :upsidedow, I realized that the price for the Friday night flight was the same as the price for the mid-day flight. Being...well...me, I booked it first and called Pop Century later! I was able to add a night with the same AP rate w/dining for Friday.
My official tally is now:
3 nights Pop (starting tonight!)
3 nights Wilderness Lodge
5 nights Dolphin
I have been on the fence about upgrading from the Dolphin to the Yacht Club. I really, really want to but it's another $900. That's really not A LOT of money when you look at your ROI, but, in the end, I felt too guilty spending that much more on the two of us for a hotel for just 5 nights. As my DH so poetically pointed out, "Can't we use that on our 4th of July trip to the beach?" Sigh. Yes, we probably should. It's so nice to have a spouse who is so grounded in reality. It keeps me from floating away and mortgaging our future to M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-University.
Princess Chloe is all packed. There were some of her things that I couldn't find that we need for our trip. I asked her to pack them for "Baltimore." I'm a genius! She only filled [what will be the carryon] suitcase half full so there will be room for treats for her brothers. She thought she was leaving me with room for my clothes. Silly rabbit. Tricks are for kids:banana:
Actually, we are both packed. I have a garment bag for all the dresses. We are going to Cirque, eating at Wolfgang's, Narcoossee's and the California Grill. After Narcoossee's for dinner and Wishes, it's EMH night at the MK. We are TGM subscribers so you know I will only be there for the mousemosphere. Actually, my plan is to get some nice pictures of Chloe all dressed up in front of the Castle - and maybe with Cinderella herself if toontown will be open late.
We are taking - I kid you not - 12 pair of shoes. We are going for 11 nights and a girl has got to have the appropriate footwear, not matter what the circumstance.
Speaking of feet, you will be happy to know that she is now OFF the crutches and ambling around just fine. I do plan to take the crutches with us, just in case the fracture starts bothering her.
 Thanks for reading my first Pre-Trip report. I promise to report back to you just as soon as we return from 11 nights of fun-filled adventure (that will probably end up with a trip report called something like Surprising a Teenager with a Trip to Disney Turns to PMS and Other Maladies. Wish me luck! I'm dying to tell her. Can't wait!

My boss throws me out of the office at 2 p.m. to get home before Chloe. My peeps at work are all in on the surprise too and they all wish me a Bon Voyage!
It's been raining where we live for the past two days. The air is cold and damp but for me, it's full of anticipation! I race home and run inside to try to load the van before the bus drops her off. If she saw that we had two big suitcases, two carryons, a garment bag and two Disney backpacks, she would know that we are not going away for a small weekend trip.
I manage to get the big suitcases, the backpacks and my carryon in the car before she gets home. Chloe arrives and asks when we are leaving. "Now!" She puts a few last minute things into her suitcase and shouts "MOM! You didn't pack anything yet!" Oops. I quickly cover and tell her that I decided to pack my stuff in a different suitcase. Ok. Whew!
Chloe gives her two youngest brothers a hug goodbye and heads out to the car. I offer to roll her bag out to the car for her (to rest her foot). It's really to keep her out of the back to avoid having her see all the luggage. The little boys (the ones that have been to Disney and Sea World with me three times without Chloe) are already busy playing computer games. Every time that I think about telling them the truth about my destination, I want to cry. Intermixed with the excitement and joy of treating my DD to a a well-deserved trip is the guilt and sadness that I am leaving behind my boys that love Disney. Are they going to be sad? Jealous? Mad? In the end, at the moment of truth, I simply give them a crushing hug and a kiss and tell them to have a fun weekend! If this had been a big ride at Disney, I believe that's called the "Chicken Exit."
We get out of the neighborhood and the freshly minted "road trip CD" is already rolling. We go about a mile and I remember that the garment bag is still hanging in my bedroom. Chloe knew that I was taking this because I had told her to pack a dress for dinner in Baltimore for Saturday night. Chloe calls her oldest brother's cell and asks him to get the bag and wait at the end of the driveway for us to swing by. Note to self - buy him an extra special present for
1. Keeping my secret and helping me with his sister's vacation planning and
2. Standing at the end of the driveway, IN THE RAIN, holding a black and pink Victoria's Secret garment bag. Bless his heart! Remind me to buy him a car for his birthday.
We swing by the bank, get some cash "for shopping in Baltimore" and we're off. Fifteeen minutes AHEAD of schedule.
It's raining. It's Friday. It's rush hour. In the big cities, you know what that means, right?! Hours and hours of congestion. That is why, at 4 o'clock, I am streaking down the highway on my way to the airport for a flight that isn't leaving until 9:25 p.m. The trip itself is only an hour and a half. I have mentally factored in the hour or so for dinner at a restaurant, the time it will take for revealing the trip, the Friday night traffic and the obligatory 2 hour preflight checkin time and think that we might just make it.
We sail through at close to the speed limit until we are fifteen miles or so from the airport. Merging on to 95 takes a bit of time. But then, I don't see any clean escape exits. I'm afraid to get off onto another highway. My navigational skills are on par with my technical knowledge of computers. Not wanting to take a chance and end up in Albany instead of Baltimore, I continue driving.
At this point, Chloe has been texting on her cell the entire drive. How do these kids not get carpel tunnel? Can I list this on her college applications as one of her many talents? OMG. I cn TXT @ 45 wpm. :hyper:
We're about 5 miles from the airport in thicker traffic and she puts the phone down and announces that it's time to stop to go to the bathroom. Now that she's paying attention to where we are, I have to "discover" that I must have made a mistake and I accidentally ended up near the airport. "Since the only thing we ever do in Baltimore is go to the airport, I must have just automatically gone that way and accidentally taken our usual exit. How about if we just stop at one of the airport hotels and use the bathroom and then reroute ourselves back in the right direction." She doesn't even suspect a thing. Perhaps she is used to the way I drive?
We drive and drive and pull into the Holiday Inn BWI at 5:45 p.m. 5:45! We are way early. It's better than sitting on the beltway sweating and hoping not to miss the flight but FOUR HOURS EARLY?!
I park the car and tell Chloe to just act casual. Pretend that we're staying here and we'll figure out where the restrooms are. We breeze in and find the bathrooms just past the gift shop. I contemplate buying Chloe a trinket from Baltimore since this is really the only sightseeing in the city that we'll be doing on this trip!
As I am washing my hands, I start to get nervous. It's time to tell her the truth. The sound on the laptop has only been working about 1/3 of the time when I roll the movie so I'm afraid that in this grandiose moment, it will fail. I thought that I fixed it but the laptop is evidently smarter than I am.
Is she going to be happy? What should I say? What if it comes out wrong? I start to get nerves that I can only imagine are what people must feel when they propose. My mouth is dry as we walk out to the van.
I have to get the camcorder first and get this on tape for my DH. I open the back of the van and Chloe sees all of the luggage. "Mom! How much are we taking to Baltimore?"

Ok. This is it. No more lies. Time to tell her. "Chloe? Why don't you watch a movie until we get to the hotel?" [Ok. Maybe a few more lies but Shh!] I turn on the camcorder and my hands are shaking! She asks me what movie is in the laptop and I just blurt out "Steel Magnolias." [Where did that come from? The funny thing is that I actually did bring two movies with me but at the time, being so nervous, I forgot that they were in the backpack next to the camcorder. Neither one of them is Steel Magnolias!]
Chloe starts telling me that she doesn't like that movie and that she doesn't really want to watch it. I insist and hand her the laptop and start fiddling with it, trying to start the video that I had made just for this moment. She sits and watches the video while my hands are shaking so badly that I can't hold the camera steady. Why am I so nervous?
The commerical starts playing and I tell her it's just a preview. I call my DH at work, on his cell and at home. My DH is nowhere to be found. [On the tape, you can hear me calling home and asking for my DH. It's at that moment that the movie gets to the screen that starts to discuss the trip. I completely forget that I am even on the phone and for the remainder of the movie, I just watch her react and then say "Bye!" and hang up.]
She starts to get suspicious and smiles as she begins to figure out what I am up to. When the screen gets to the details - 9:25 tonight - she turns to me and squeeks out "Really?" She looks stunned more than anything like she doesn't know what to say or how to react. The movie finishes and she starts asking me a million questions. "How long are we staying?" "Are we really going tonight?" "Where are we staying?" I tell her that the entire schedule is on a spreadsheet on the laptop. Chloe, flush with infinite wisdom, asks "Is it a fake spreadsheet?" Now, whatever gave her a reason to believe that I could be deceitful? We sit in the parking lot of the hotel for about fifteen minutes while I go throught the whole thing....the planning, the deception, the intrigue...sorry. She cannot believe that her brother knew and did not tell her!
We drive down the street to the airport garage and I park on Level SEVEN, hoping that would bring us good luck on the trip. As we continue to talk, it starts to sink in and her happiness grows moment by moment until she is clapping her hands and bouncing in her seat. THAT was the reaction that I was hoping to get.
We call my DH again and still no answer. [We found out later that he had gone to a friend's house to help fix a dishwasher. If you knew my Mr. Fixit, you'd feel sorry for the people with the dishwasher.] She calls her oldest brother and thanks him for lying to her. Awww.
We do have a plane to catch and for a moment, I panic that we've spent hours talking and missed the flight. It's only 6:45. We get out of the van and take the bags out. Chloe decides that she does not want to take the Disney bag that I have brought as her personal item. She insists on taking her newest Coach bag. Uhm, that bag is almost $400 (retail, not outlet, ok?) and you know that you will have to stick it on the dirty carpet under the seat on the plane? Well, sometimes, you just can't win with a teen so, not wanting to start the trip off on a bad note, I relent. We take the items in the Disney bag and put them into the Coach bag. Then we realize that we have three carryon bags (the garment bag and two smaller suitcases). It takes a good bit of time to move everything around but we manage to restructure and we are ready. One last glance in the van and I realize that I have left my annual pass on the driver's seat! Wow. Thank goodness for my flying-induced OCD. If I hadn't rechecked the car one more time, we would have left without my ticket.
It is fortunate that we arrived four hours early because, by the time we have finished repacking, catch the bus and clear security, it is 7:30!
Here we are on the bus going to the terminal. I was still nervous and evidently not thinking clearly because it took me four attempts to take this picture. I took one picture and the batteries died. I changed the batteries but put them in wrong TWICE! Then, I accidentally recorded us in movie mode. Finally, I managed to get this really awful picture.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/IMG_1438.jpg
The people on the bus were staring at us so I start talking really loudly about how excited I was to finally be able to go on my very first vacation. :lmao:
The plan had been to stop at a restaurant, have dinner and tell Chloe the surprise. As we managed to miss dinner, we are both starving but can't agree on something that we both want. I end up eating Auntie Anne's and she gets junk from Arby's. We eat and she finally reaches her Dad and starts to tell him about where she is. She is really excited!
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/IMG_1439.jpg
She spent the remaining wait time texting her herd to send the alert that she would not be in school for the next week and a few days.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/IMG_1441-1.jpg
Our flight is now delayed an HOUR! We are now scheduled to depart at 10:15. We were FIVE hours early for our flight! It seems that our Orlando based Southwest crew is currently flying on another plane that is delayed. Our plane is on the ground waiting for us without a crew.
Will Chloe have a great big beautiful tomorrow? Or will she, the princess, be forced to sleep in the airport?

Loving your report so far! I've been debating whether to surprise DD with a trip for her 13th bday next winter and I'm hoping your TR will help me to decide. I keep thinking that while the surprise would be fun, maybe it would be even more fun for her to help plan the trip? She could pick out the hotels, ADRs, etc. Plus, I'm afraid that if I totally surprised her, I would forget to pack something that she considered to be absolutely essential (since 13 yr. old girls are notoriously unpredictable)! What do you think? :confused3

My mind wanders to bad places. What if we don’t leave tonight? I bought two sets of plane tickets to Orlando and neither one can get me out of Baltimore on time. What if we have to go back to the Holiday Inn and this time, not just use the bathroom. “Hi. We’re the people that pretended to be staying here earlier. We’ve evaluated your bathroom and decided to spend the night.”
I’m thinking back to the days and days of labor invested in planning what park/what day to make sure that we maximize our days and get everything done that we should. I am realizing that, at the 11th hour, life’s joking with me. “Hey, Laura! Remember all of those Saturdays when you sat at the computer and watched the day slip by while you read and planned and announced ‘This is the perfect plan!’?” Good luck with that.
Why am I being so dramatic? A 10:15 departure leads to a 12:15 a.m. arrival. Add to that walking time from the plane to magical express and that’s going to be potentially a 1 a.m. arrival at the resort! Is Magical Express open after midnight? I definitely do not like the thought of waiting for our bags and taking a mystery cab late at night.
I dig out the Magical Express booklet, which is next to the DVDs (neither of which is Steel Magnolias) and call. The rep assures me that the service runs 24-7 and that we will have a free ride to the hotel. Well, my greedy little mind thinks that this could work out in our favor because we should be the only people getting in that late. We might have the bus to ourselves and not have to make a series of stops! The rep at Magical Express recommends that I call the resort (which I do) to let them know that we will be there, albeit not until after midnight.
We have a jam packed first day planned tomorrow. Arriving at 1 a.m. (if we get the chance) should make the 8 a.m. extra magic hours at MGM “Hollywood Studios” that I have planned for tomorrow, well, just MAGICAL! Ugh. So, I pull out the laptop and tap into the well-developed Disney planning skills. Delete tomorrow’s MGM plan. Cut Cell C7. Paste it in B7. Now put MGM in C7. That should work.
The plane with our crew is within a safe distance and we are told that we will soon line up. OMG! Chloe put the phone away. We’re actually going to go to Dis-a-nee World!!!!!!!
I have not traveled Southwest since the implementation of the new cattle call by number. Everyone that has been lounging for hours lines up like metal shavings to a magnet. These people are quick! Chloe and I take our spot in what we think is the right spot. Actually, I have no clue where I’m supposed to be so I look at my boarding pass and announce A21….A21. I’m in the wrong spot but the people around me help MOOve me to where I need to be. We’re off to the plane and we are told to just sit anywhere. There’s plenty of room for everyone.
Here’s a quick shout out to Southwest. In order to get us on the road, so to speak, they had called in employees, not scheduled to work, to come in just to prepare the plane and get us ready to depart without further delay. I love Southwest. I really, really do. They have the nicest employees.
Chloe takes the window seat and I take the aisle. Shortly after takeoff, Chloe is sprawled out, across all three seats, with her head on my lap, sound asleep. I try to fall asleep, sitting up, without moving, so that I do not wake up Sleeping Beauty. Did not work but I don’t care because we are going to Disney and it WILL be a great, big, beautiful tomorrow.

Well, I had the best of both worlds. She's been to WDW enough that I felt comfortable allowing this trip to come without her participating in the excitement of the planning. If this had been her first trip, I would never have surprised her. I did have Chloe pack a bag with her "essentials" that way I knew that, despite the outfits that I planned for her, she would have all of her teenage creature comforts.

I've been giving it more thought, and decided that if I do the planning and just surprise her, it might be even better! Otherwise, I'm afraid her ideas and mine might not coincide (this may have something to do with both of us being control freaks! ;) )! She is generally happy when I make plans for her or buy clothing for her and just present her with them (so she hasn't seen the options!), BUT as soon as she and I shop together or I consult her, THAT's when we have problems! So, in reality, a surprise is probably the very best way to go.
She already knows that I would like to do a 13th bday girls trip, so I could easily have her pack a bag of "essentials." Great idea! :thumbsup2

BTW, I grew up in the Harrisburg area, so I could totally picture the drive to BWI!

We arrive in Orlando….don’t ask me what time. I don’t remember. It was o’dark thirty and humid. We trotted just as fast as our legs could carry us to the Magical Express area. Why, oh why does this always seem like the longest part of the journey? From the time the plan lands until we get to the resort feels like days and days.
I was skeptical that the Magical Express desk would still be open but as we’re walking, I spot the blue jackets. We walk thru the line together, give our names and we’re sent to the Pop Century cue. No one else is in line and I’m thinking that my prediction about having a bus to us might be accurate. We get on the bus and, this time, I remember to get a seat near the front. I always charge the bus in pursuit of a seat away from everyone else and then I curse myself when we get close to the Walt Disney World sign and I want to take a picture as we go under the arch.
The bus is not empty. And apparently it has been sitting waiting for passengers. It turns out that at this hour (sometime after midnight Saturday morning), we are on a bus full of eager vacation-ears. So much for my theory of a late flight = empty bus, huh? The mom in the front row of the bus is holding her head in her hands and keeps complaining about how loooong this is taking. The bus driver’s name is Rafael and everyone is looking for Rafael. “Rafael? Rafael? Wherefore art thou Rafael?” When Chloe starts to get restless, I renounce her impatience and tell her not to complain about something that is FREE! I do it in a voice slightly louder than my inside voice just in case the mom in front of me is eavesdropping so maybe she’ll get in a Disney mood and stop with the sighing and complaining. I shouldn’t really judge. Maybe they had been there 20 minutes already but hey, lady. Lighten up.
Rafael comes aboard! Hooray!
We leave for the resort. Rafael does a quick poll. We have five resorts on board…Pop Century, Coronado Springs & the All Stars. And guess where the lady in front of us is staying? All Star Sports. I’m sorry to say that she was still on the bus when we got off at the Pop thirty minutes later and probably had another half an hour after the bus departed because Coronado was next. I hope that Rafael made it back to the airport alive. Here's a picture of him to help out just in case his family is looking for him. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1442.jpg
I have been singing the praises of the Pop ever since I stayed there in January of this year. It’s just a great, fun, clean, happy little place… If they had room service, a hot tub and a pool slide, I wouldn’t need to ever stay anywhere else. My children, poor spoiled little souls, do not enjoy the All Stars. As Pop is a value, Chloe naturally puts it in the same category as the All Stars. Chloe, however, is a captive audience. She had no say in where we stay and has just been delivered to a value resort. I figured that this would be the only way to get her to try the Pop, by surprise attack.
Here is Chloe at a sprint into the lobby. As you can see, the ankle is just fine.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1449.jpg
In the time that it takes me to sign our paperwork, collect the brochures and get the room keys, she has surveyed the sparkly lobby and whispered in my ear “Mom. You were right about this place.” Had I not been awake for almost 24 hours at this point, I would totally have jumped up and down with joy. She had only seen the lobby however, and has not seen the teeny, tiny room. It will be interesting to see what she thinks in the morning, after doing the food court and the bus.
We depart for bell services, find the bellman on duty, who is in the middle of a conversation with someone (could have been an off duty CM or a guest. They didn’t have a uniform on) and ask him to hold our luggage until the morning. We have stayed at the POR and had our luggage delivered at 2 a.m. Not interested, thanks. Anyway, he asks me what room we are in and I show him the envelope that holds the room keys. Chloe and I are moderately attractive young women and we are traveling alone. I KNOW not to say my room number out loud in public. This knucklehead bellman, says “ROOM 2424? No problem.” Gee, knucklehead, thanks for announcing that to the world and another person. Against my better judgment, we continue to trudge to the room. Chloe has traveled enough to know the egregious error that this CM just committed. She comments on it while we steer ourselves towards the nifty fifties buildings.
We come to the TRAMP building and start looking for 2424. Nope. These rooms are 3000ish. 180-degree turn and we see the LADY building. Chloe says “Oh, mom. She must have put us in the lady building because she knows us.” Funny girl. We walk across the courtyard to the lady building and those rooms are 1000 rooms. Where are the 2000 rooms? Oh, way down there, passed the pool and the four-story jukebox. We get to the fourth floor in Building #2 and pass the soda machine. We decide that we’re hot and thirsty and decide to go ahead and buy waters to save having to come back out after we trek to the room. Cool beverages in hand, we walk about 10 steps and find our room. We giggle about how silly we were to buy our drinks and juggle all of our stuff when we could have ditched the stuff and run back over. We push in and I hold my breath waiting for Chloe’s reaction to the size & décor of the room. She says nothing. Could be that she’s asleep on her feet.
We commit the ultimate germaphobe sin and collapse with our heads on the pillows and our bodies on the icky comforter. We snap on Stacy and start watching the top seven must see attractions at Walt Disney World. It is now 2:11 a.m. We peel off our travel clothes and squeeze into bed. We decide to put in for a wake up call, just in case we feel like going to a park later. Today slowly fades away and before we know it, the phone is ringing, beckoning us to start our first full day of fun!!!

The ringing phone wakes me at 6:30. I am wide-awake when I realize that I am not in my bed and reaching for a strange phone. Chloe does not move. I unpack the camcorder and flip it to night vision. I aim it at Chloe and say "Chloe" and get no response. "We're in Disney World." Chloe sighs and says "....oh yeah!" I tell her "It's time for your great big beautiful tomorrow!" She smiles the cutest smile and rolls over and starts stretching to get ready to get up.
It was a mushy, cuddly, tender moment. Followed by a rush of showers, hair dryers, a visit from bell services, a flurry of makeup, and a dash to the food court for breakfast and a Tinkerbell landyard. I had cut and pasted our itinerary during our flight delay. There is no way that we would have been able to do my original plan to go to the 8 a.m. extra magic hour today. No makeup, no time for showers or breakfast? We would have been the walking, talking "Beauty and the Beast" show at MGM.
We arrived at Animal Kingdom around 8:30 and went to a ticket window to buy Chloe's annual pass. Ticket in hand, we find a really short line on the right near where we have previously checked in for "Breakfastasaurus" reservations. After crossing the threshhold in the first park of this trip, I offer to rent a wheelchair for Chloe. Although she feels fine now, I'm concerned about damaging her healing fracture. She insists that she is fine, no twinges at all, and we move on.
We pass the photopass photogs and all of the "tourists" who are stopping for pix in front of the Tree. We end up at a rope drop in front of the "times" board. We are so happy to be here, sharing this moment together. I am astounded that we got up, dressed, ate and made it to rope drop after getting to bed after 2 a.m. Gotta love that Disney adrenaline!

We see Mickey and friends in their camp attire and then we're off. We stay up ahead with the first 25 guests, slowing only to take a picture of the first animal that we spot at Animal Kingdom, a SoxwithCrocs.
I am including this photo for you because I want to show you
1. a Disney fashion don't and
2. to show you how close to the rope drop we were as we walked thru Asia.

Chloe continues her momentum while I dive under the rope to the left side of the morning Everest parade to get two fastpasses to use later. I jump back into the flow and shortly catch up to Chloe. How many miles is it anyway from the Tree to the front of the line at Everest? 100?
We could have gotten right on the ride. I request the front car and go to the "front car" waiting spot. I am a bit of a prima donna when it comes to Everest. If you check Wikipedia for Prima Donna, you will learn that the original Prima Donnas (prime donne in Italian) were often regarded as egotistical, unreasonable and irritable, with a rather high opinion of themselves not shared by others.
Well, regardless, I want the front seat and I will wait for it. So there. I have to be able to look around and gaze down upon the "World" when we are stuck at the top. And this morning, waiting for the front car gives my heart rate the chance to return to a normal rhythm. This ride could be marketed as "a great way to start your day if your flight was delayed and you barely slept" because it is like INSTANT AWAKE! We walked away from the ride and into the throngs of "Late" arrivals. It's 9:20 you sleepyheads. Where have you been?
I really only wanted to come to Animal Kingdom to ride Everest so the rest of the morning is on a MUCH slower pace.We took some time getting photopass pictures (not here yet - come back in 14-21 days) and then went to Dinosaur.

We saw the Nemo show. Those benches at the Nemo show are killer. Wearing less than modest shorts that ride-up, we had to sit with our feet propped up on the bench in front of us to avoid the Chicken on the grill look on the back of our thighs.
Chloe took a million random pictures of birds and water and trees. Tourist. We were tired at this point and decided to go back to the Pop. We really did not want to do too much on our first park morning. Also, we had gone from a daily temperature of 45-50 thanks to our colder than average spring to 95+ degrees and we were ready for some R&R.
We waited for about 15 minutes for the bus. There were five college-aged girls with blue bandanas tied around various body parts. Not sure if this is a new fashion statement somewhere in the country or if part of a gang of hoodlums were waiting for the Pop bus but I kept a close eye on them.
Chloe spent the wait time....big surprise....on the phone AND swatting love bugs. When I told her why they call them 'love bugs,' she declared that "They had better not do THAT on ME!!!!"
Back at the resort, we spent two counter service credits on lunch.
I had the Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast, which came with a delicious side salad and a breadstick.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1479.jpg
Chloe had a double cheeseburger and fries.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1478.jpg
Both of us had the tie-dye cheesecake. I love it but Chloe thought the consistency was "weird." We sat outside under the umbrella and ate our lunch and were just so happy. Chloe wants to swim instead of sleep so we pull on our swimsuits and Chloe dons her Wal-Mart apparel (happily I might add) and she swims and I read.

Thank you for reading. The tea at the Grand Floridian is fun, in a fancy way, if you wanted to just spend a few hours bonding with her.
Do you think we look alike? Chloe and I can't see it but everybody says it!

Wow! i can't believe yall were up that early. BTW I love Chloe's nail polish color.
The nails were really, really green. A friend loaned her the color and she gave herself a mani-pedi in that color the night before we left. I was a little shocked with the color but she definitely pulled it off.
Thanks for reading my report!

reading your trip report brings it all back. I think it is about three and a half calf cramps from the tree to Everest if you are sprinting, especially if you are pushing a stroller. I am happy to see that Chloe is being a good sport at this stage of no sleep, all hot and having a broken leg. It probably helps to have her mom all to herself! Keep writing!

Detox with Pixie Dust
In reviewing my trip report, thus far, it occurred to me that to the casual reader, you might have a skewed view of my relationship with Chloe. This report has been full of joy and happiness, anticipation and elation.
But let me digress for a moment. Chloe is a princess but not the holy, wave ever-so- delicately-at-people-in-a-parade princess. Chloe is MY princess. I have created this spoiled, little bundle of joy. It's my fault that she has prima donna-esque qualities. Sadly, she was not born a royal. She is, however, at times these days, a royal pain in my brain.
In our normal life, we are best friends. I’m her biggest fan. To me, she’s always the best. She’s the smartest, best-dressed, prettiest, most talented girl on the planet. If something happens to her at school or work, I’m the first one she tells. She’s also the person that I fight the very most with in this world. Most days, I get lots of sass and attitude. I have pulled my car over more than once and threatened to turn around and go home if she said one more mean thing to me. We can easily get on each other’s very last nerve. At home, her brothers and I refer to her as the Rhino. She can be bad, as in "The Rhino is charging because you have annoyed it so you'd better RUN!" bad. Behind her back we say “Don’t poke the rhino” which means ask her your question nicely. Do not annoy Chloe.
We have been together on this trip for 24 hours. We’re getting along wonderfully. We actually talk about how well we’re getting along and how nice she’s being to me. She acknowledges that she isn’t always the nicest girl. I tell her that sometimes, when people have a problem with destructive behavior, they go to rehab and work on eliminating that. I suggest that since we have ten days left on the trip, she should try really hard to be nice, no matter what. She is eager to agree. It’s detox with pixie dust.
I am skeptical that she can surpress the urge to lash out at me. I’m hopeful that the trip does not break down into a tension filled experience with the two of us trying to tolerate each other until we return home.
So far, so good.

I am loving your report! And you and Chloe could pass for sisters!
I am taking my oldest dd in August 2009 for her 12th birthday, just she and I. We have, as I've always referred to it, a tumultuous relationship. There is no one on this earth who can push my buttons like she can. She is every teacher's dream, high honors, never gets in an ounce of trouble yet with me she'll argue about, well just about anything. Since you shared that last post I am really anxious to hear how the rest of your trip goes with the dynamic between the two of you. I hope you were able to have a wonderful time!

Oh my gosh - you just described my daughter when she was 15 :rotfl: She could be the sweetest, caring, loving daughter to me & sister to her brothers and in the next minute, look out!! Sometimes I felt she had no respect for me at all but she's now 28 and a new mommy and (you can ask her brothers on this one) she's really mellowed out (plus not living together has it's plus).
Wishing you luck in the next several days of being together 24/7 and that the pixie dust keeps her being the precious daughter you love pixiedust:

Day 1, the evening
We have exciting evening plans. It’s the first of several “big girl” evenings. We have Cirque tickets for tonight. We saw the show three years ago from the fourth row, down in front. It was a great place to see the show but I’ve done a little research and found out that farther back is the way to go. I bought front row seats, near center in the second section of the theater. Section 203, Row AA, Seats 16 and 17.
We shower (again). More hairdryers. Even more makeup. Here we are waiting to go to DTD, hoping that the bus full of icy, cold air would get there before we passed out from the heat. Can I tell you that wearing black leggings in Florida when it’s about 100 degrees is about as hot as it gets. Maybe next time, I’ll pack corduroys. Chloe was wearing jeans but didn't complain one second.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1500.jpg
We were early for the show and had time to wait in the very long snack bar line. I’ve never really understood why Cirque has a snack bar. It seems sacrilege to pay $100 a ticket and be forced to sit next to someone chomping down a hot dog and jumbo pretzel. As we sat and sipped glamourously on our large, plastic souvenir cups with the flexy straws, we people watched. These are definitely the ‘see-and-be-seen’ seats too. You are right beside the entrance and everyone walks past you on their way to their seats. So, if you book these seats, make sure to be prepared to stare and be stared at. Someone must have had a change in plans because the seats to Chloe’s right sat empty. What luck for us. It was almost as good as having private suite seats. Speaking of which, as we were people watching, we saw a group being seated way, way up in a suite behind the glass. The lights came on while they were seated, then went out once everyone was in place. How do you get THOSE seats? They were VIPs for sure, right?
We thoroughly enjoyed every minute and gave the show a standing ovation. And then took the standing into a quick sprint down the steps to Wolfgang’s. We have dinner reservations for 830 but the show is over by 730. The location of our seats allows for a quick exit and we run over and check on the possibility of an earlier seating. We are hoping that we get lucky again tonight and get a table by the water. When we reach the front of the line to check in and ask about getting seated an hour earlier than our ressie time, we are told that there is a waterside table available immediately if we wanted to sit outside. Heck yeah! Let’s go.
What a wonderful first day that we’ve had.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1517-2.jpg
I lectured Chloe on why you should not feed the birds that wandered past the restaurant. Until the servers came out and stood by our table and tossed bread at them.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1515.jpg
I packed copies of all the menus for all the restaurants that I’ve scheduled for the trip. Is it really obsessive-compulsive to know what we will be dining on before we’ve looked at the official menu? We’ll have the salmon and the cheesecake, thanks.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1510.jpgThis is the salmon with saffron mashed potatoes and asparagus. YUM!
After dinner, we walk from the restaurant thru Pleasure Island to the Marketplace. We found these guys in front of Reglan Road. People were gathered around and it was luck double-dutch. Wait and wait and wait and run and jump in and take your turn then run out so someone else can get a picture. Can you imagine if the character meet and greets were like that at the parks?!
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1522.jpg
I had read here on the Disboard’s Food Porn thread that the McDonalds in DTD had McRib. McRib is the best sandwich ever invented. They don’t offer them in the northeast anymore. I was so excited about the potential for bagging one. Or ten. Yes, I had just dined on exquisite salmon and delicious cheesecake but I always have room for a McRib! Alas, I got my hopes up for something that was not meant to be because I did not find the McRib on the menu. I can’t lie. I was disappointed.
We walked towards the bus stop, taking pictures of some friendly guys. Do you think that my DH will be jealous?

I can't take credit for these. I stole the idea from a trip report that I read on here some months ago.
We put in for a wakeup call, watch the seven must sees at Disney AGAIN and go to sleep.
Can you believe that all of this happened in just ONE day? We've arrived in Orlando, went to Animal Kingdom, swam and read, saw Cirque, had dinner at Wolfgang and shopped a little.

Another Great and Wonderful Day starts with a 7 a.m. wake up call. It's showtime! Today is our Hollywood Studios day.

This CM kept telling people to stay behind him and not run. Chloe and I kept up with him by doing a bent-knee-sneaky kind of run where you're trying to run but not get caught. When he would glance behind him, we'd smile at him and walk. As soon as he turned back around, we were sneaky running and laughing again.
I do not like Tower of Terror. I hate the suspense of waiting for the floor to drop out from under me. In the past, when I have ridden this ride, I have contantly braced for the moment of free falling. Is this it? Is this it? Is this it? Is this it? Is this it? Is this it? Is this it? Is this it? Is this it? Is this it? Is this it? If I never had to ride TOT again, I would be just fine.
There have been so many comments on this trip report about what a great mom I am for planning this surprise trip for my DD. I do appreciate the compliments; however, I really think that what I did for Chloe this morning is what makes me worthy of your kind words. Here I am squat-running as fast as I can in a quest to be the first guest of the day to experience something that is quite terrifying to me. I kept telling Chloe that I wasn't going to ride it but Chloe kept saying that if I didn't ride the TOT, she wouldn't go with me on It's a Small World. Right, because those two rides are SOOOOO similar and an equal tradeoff. I was intent on having the perfect trip and I seriously did take one for the team in riding this.
We wind our way thru the entry to TOT and I am happy to say that we succeeded in earning the first and second guest of the day honors.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1543-1.jpg
Be proud of me. I did not take the chicken exit and rode the ride with my DD. We sat in the front row and I put my lime green Baggalini on the floor in front of me.
Guess why you have seat belts on this ride? It's to keep you from hitting the ceiling! During the first drop, Chloe and I came eye-to-eye with my bag! It came up off of the ground and hovered in front of me for a second. I grabbed it while it was on it's way back down. The souvenir photo snapped with the bag right by my head. That was so cool. And the concern about what might have fallen out while the bag was floating thru the air took my mind off of the absolute terror. This was my ride:
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaAAAG GGGGHHH!" (I hope my credit card didn't fall out!"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!" (It sounded like stuff hit the floor. What was it?)
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGHHHH!" (Maybe it was our tickets?)
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGHH!" (It sounded more like change.)
After scrambling around on the floor of the elevator looking for loose change, we made our way out. On our way, we found the CM that we followed and asked if we could get his photo. I said "Since we stalked you the whole way to the ride this morning, is it ok if we get your photo?" I think he was a little flustered about getting his picture taken with my DD but don't tell Chloe.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1546.jpg
We headed to Rock and Roller coaster and I rode that too! Chloe's movie has come to life and I really am becoming a kid again. I've always been the traditional, sit-with-the-stroller Mom while the rest of the crew runs off for fun. No stroller and no excuses this trip. I've got to go for it and just let it all out. And believe me, I did not waste the opportunity. It wasn't just the music that was loud on R&RC.
We walked past the High School Musical show already in progress. I asked Chlo if she wanted to watch it and she chided me because she's too OLD for that baby show. As we were walking by, she says "Oh. I like this song."
We skipped breakfast this morning because I read on the Disboards that within the Hollywood Studios, a snack exists called an Apple Filled Soft Pretzel. I was thinking that a delicious apple pretzel, coupled with an iced mochaccino from the Writer's Stop would make the perfect breakfast. And at this point, I really need a drink. As it's too early for alcohol, we head for Min and Bill's to get our breakfast started. It's 10 o'clock and the sign says that they open at 10 but the stand is still closed. We decide to go to the Writer's Stop and use snack credits for mochaccinos. We get to the Stop and, unfortunately, snack credits are no longer redeemable for these beverages. No pretzels. No mochaccinos. No breakfast.
As we found out, there are very few options at 10:40 at MGM if you want food. We settled on our old standby - The ABC Commissary. They are serving lunch and we get a Dancing with the Stars (Cuban sandwich), an Ugly Betty (cheeseburger) and two Desperate Housewives (chocolate mousse). Chloe ordered the meal by show name which was funny coming out of her mouth (She'll have Dancing with the Stars and I'd like an Ugly Betty and two desperate housewives).

This is my old standby place because I really enjoy sitting outside under the palm trees and listening to the theme songs to the old shows that they play in this area. We ate lunch and I explained the plot of Three's Company and some other shows that Chloe is too young to know. Does that make me old?
We met up with some old friends

and I got some touring advice from the expert.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1562-1.jpg
We wandered around and found the Singing in the Rain umbrella, although Chloe missed the concept slightly.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1567.jpg
We were really getting tired so we thought, let's check the Toy Story ride to see if by luck it's open before we head out. We see people going in. Run, Chloe, Run! We bust down the avenue and join the queue. This is such an awesome ride. My favoritist for sure. Good job, Disney!
At this point, swimming outranked anything else in the park so we left. I really didn't think that Chloe would have wanted to spend so much time at the Pop but I guess she liked it there (which makes me happy!)

I stumbled upon this TR today, I have always loved the surprise ones, I tear up everytime. I can really relate to this TR though, my DD Reese is 14, and like you I have made her the princess in the family, however the queen mother still reigns.
I love the idea of cutting out the Abercrombie label and sewing it into walmart clothing, if I did that I could seriously cut the clothing budget in half :)
Your trip so far sounds like a wonderful time, way to be a kid again!!! our babies will always need their moms, but being a kid with them every now and then only boosts the relationship further.
Last Dec, I took a girls only trip with my Reese, my friend and her DD, reading your TR I wish I would have done more one on one time with Reese.

I just found your TR and couldn't stop reading it. I'm a 16 year old girl and I get along with my mom most of the time. The only we don't is when one of us has a bad day at work or school (work for her, both for me). But in Disney we get along fine. :) Though I don't tell her everything (I will admit to not telling her someone hit my car with their car in a parking lot causing no damage till she was half asleep) we still are as tight as you and your daughter sound.
A mother-daughter trip sounds so much fun. Every trip my family takes (there's four of us) one day is set aside for parent-child time (Mother-daughter and Father-son part of the day then we switch for the second). We have done one mother daughter trip but it was a true weekend trip (Friday - Sunday) for my mom's work. Can't wait to read more and hear from your daughter about what she thought.

On our way out of MGM, we see that Min & Bill’s is open and we have snack points burning a hole in our room keys. We stop and get a light snack. We have dinner reservations for Narccoossee’s at 840 so we’ll need something to hold us over. Two chocolate milkshakes and an apple-filled pretzel should do the trick. At last, we have our pretzel and I took a picture of it at the bus stop. I didn’t mean to get Chloe in the picture but if you can see her, that was how we felt about our much anticipated snack.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1570.jpg
We get in line for the bus to Pop and wait. The wait for the bus gave us time to digest our snacks but it also gave us time to stand in front of what we decided was the worst behaved child at Disney World. We already had the good fortune to have stood in the Toy Story queue with little miss sunshine. What good luck for us to get to stand in front of her twice in one day! Little Emily was not happy to be leaving MGM. Then, little Emily was not happy to have to wait for the bus. Then, little Emily wanted to climb on the chains that divide concrete into a line. Then, little Emily wanted something at the bottom of the backpack. Then, little Emily wanted a snack. Then, little Emily wanted to color. To each demand, little Emily’s parents said no but Emily’s been around awhile. She knows to ask again and again and again and eventually, no becomes “Well, wait a minute.”
Chloe and I pronounce (to each other) that little Emily is the worst behaved child at Walt Disney World but we’ll keep our eyes open for the rest of the week, trying to find someone to out-naughty her. After the parents pulled their little monkey off the bus stop chains a few times, Emily’s parents told her that they were not getting her new toy from the bottom of the backpack but then they did. Getting the toy from the bottom of the bag made Emily hungry so she asked her parents for a snack. Said snack delivered, Emily was ready to color and those parents, anticipating the bus any second, said no and then no then no then wait a minute. What’s that, little Emily? You can’t color with just those two colors? It went on and on until, thank merciful heavens, we had a bus. We sat in the front and fortunately for us, little Emily wanted her parents to go all the way to the back. No. Sit right here. No, we’re not going to sit in the back. No, Emily, right here. Emily! Well, wait a minute!
Fast forward to poolside at http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1528.jpg.
I am sitting in the second row of lounge chairs reading my book. Chloe sits on the edge of the pool with just her feet in. All the better to show off the WalMart goods.
By the way, my book is really, really good. It’s called “Nineteen Minutes” (on sale at a Walmart near you). I was hoping to have made some progress in it this afternoon but I soon found something else to keep me entertained.
I glance up after a few pages and see Chloe sitting where she has been for the past few minutes. What’s new is that there is now a young man sitting at a 90 degree angle from where she is. I guess he’s around her age, maybe a little younger, and trying to look at her but not be obvious. He’s looking at the water, then glancing her way, water, Chloe, water, toss the hair, look at Chloe. This goes on for awhile and I think, this should be interesting. At first, I was not happy that I had to settle for 2nd row loungers and cursed the towel and random flipflop leavers. Now I’m tickled with my 2nd row location as HE doesn’t see ME watching HIM getting up the courage to go talk to HER.
He stands up to “look at something in the pool” and then sits back down. From my spying chair, I can clearly see that, when he sat back down, he moved closer to her by a few feet. Ok, here we go. Game on. I watch them with facination. It’s comical and innocent and charming at the same time. He’s clearly interested and she’s oblivious (or so I thought at the time). He has siblings swimming in the pool and they have decided that Chloe makes a good target and start to splash her. I think he might have bribed them because this gives him the opening that he needed to swoop in and save the damsel in distress from the dangerous drops of water splashing her. I see them talking and then, he finally got brave enough to get up and sit beside her. It was so cute. I wanted to run back to the room to get the camera but I thought that I would blow my cover.or embarrass Chloe. I also didn’t want to let her out of my sight in case the love birds decided to run off somewhere together (like Vegas). :moped: So instead of taking her picture, I watched. They spent HOURS talking.
Somewhere in the middle of the afternoon, the flip flop leavers returned to their chase loungers and popped the back of their chairs up, blocking my view! They must have reserved their lounge chairs and hopped over to the liquor store because they returned to the pool with a Styrofoam cooler of beer to consume poolside. I start thinking that these people might be HIS parents. Chloe. Away from that boy!!! You can’t marry him. His parents don’t wear shoes and drink canned beer out of Styrofoam coolers!
Fortunately for Chloe, they were not HIS parents and left after a few (beers). I hopped up and put the chair backs down so that I could resume my spying straight on instead of peeking around the beer drinkers. I’m glad Chloe had her back to me the entire afternoon. She would have died if she knew that I was behind her, peeking out from around the chairs every few seconds.
Finally, I had to come out of hiding and gave her a 15 minute warning because we had fancy dinner plans. At long last, they said goodbye and I asked her what his name was. I asked her if they exchanged info and she said no and I said why don’t you get his My Space? Before you think that I’m one of those modern kind of moms, the only reason that I suggested it was to appease her girlfriends back home. They had told her to get pictures of cute boys while she was gone and since I was without a camera, this would provide some element of proof for the girls.
She found him sitting with his siblings and he told her how to find him online AND THEN, are you ready for this? Prince Charming gave her a HUG and a KISS on the cheek. I thought that was little forward for just having met her but perhaps I’m old fashioned? Does Prince Charming kiss Cinderella on their first date?
She chatted the whole way back to the room about him. She told him that we were checking out tomorrow and moving to the Wilderness Lodge. He had stayed there before and told her that it was nice. His family was leaving in two days. They had been staying at the Pop for a MONTH! Apparently, Prince Charming is home schooled. Somehow, the parents have jobs that take them around the country and they stay at Disneyworld twice a year while they work nearby. I’m dying to know what they do but all that comes to mind is the Gornicke family from Robin William’s movie “RV.”
I am hoping that Chloe can get this young man out of her system and enjoy an evening of lobster and Wishes with her boring, old Mom.
Next Up: They call it Bella Notte.

What a great trip you are having in 2 days so far you've beeen there! Couple questions for you if you don't mind:
1. You mentioned you ate at Wolfgang Puck's after the Cirque. Did you eat in the restaurant part upstairs or at the Express or Cafe? My DBFF & I had dinner upstairs and had the worst experience. This was her only suggestion on the trip and it was our last night - we were both disappointed! Food was bad, service worse and too expensive for the tiny portions. I think her expectations were so high since so many of her clients suggested having the steak there ("best ever" they quoted).
2. How far in advance did you purchase tickets for Cirque to get such great seats? (sorry if I missed you mentioned this) I would love to get tickets for our return trip in December but can't order them until September (money wise).
3. Did you ever tell Chloe you were "spying" on her? That whole episode was so cute!
Am so jealous you got the chance to get away with your daughter - my DD doesn't want to go again until her baby is a little older (he's 8 mos now and I want to take them in March 09).

Hey, everyone. I was hoping that you would get Chloe's version of events by now but she's been working so many hours at her summer job. I'll try to get her to the computer tomorrow.
We ate downstairs at the Cafe. I ate there in January with my DSis when I went down for a brief weekend by myself (!) and had the pumpkin ravioli and that was good too.
2. How far in advance did you purchase tickets for Cirque to get such great seats? (sorry if I missed you mentioned this) I would love to get tickets for our return trip in December but can't order them until September (money wise). I bought them April 15th, so about 5 weeks in advance. So, who knows. You might get lucky and get great seats too!
3. Did you ever tell Chloe you were "spying" on her? That whole episode was so cute! I'm not sure if she knew at the time that I was watching her the ENTIRE time. She knew where I was and glanced at me a few times. She'll know for sure when she reads this.
Am so jealous you got the chance to get away with your daughter - my DD doesn't want to go again until her baby is a little older (he's 8 mos now and I want to take them in March 09).Aw. Enjoy your DGS. Chloe is intent on not having any kiddos but that's what I said too and I have four. I'm thrilled with her no children stance now though. She can change her mind after high school, college, grad school....:)
Thanks for reading!

hi, everyone, i'm chloe-bizeemom4's DD16. i've been reading all of your comments, and it's nice to see so many enthusiastic readers! :goodvibes
i am sooo grateful that she surprised me with this trip, and i can't wait until i can do the same for her-it's just one small thing i can do to thank the best mom a girl could have. i love you mom, and this was my favorite trip to disney ever!
now about prince charming...
i totally knew she was watching me, just not the ENTIRE time. but then again, it probably was pretty funny. her version is slightly different than mine, however.
i sat down and put my feet in because we were going out to dinner later-i just couldn't get my hair messed up, now, could i? lol i put my sunglasses on, so i could people watch..the pop century pool in may is a prime opportunity for a laugh. a few minutes later i got the goosebumps as i realized that someone was watching me. i casually looked around and noticed this very tan, shaggy blonde-haired boy staring me down as i try to enjoy my afternoon. i continued to watch him from my peripheral view as he leaned back so the sun could shine on him from every angle. :rotfl: i pretended to pay no attention, and just kept swirling my feet in the water. seeing that his plan wasn't working, he then whispered something to his little brother.
all of a sudden, i was ambushed from the side by a tidal wave of 8-year-old proportion. (where could he possibly have gotten that idea?) the older boy got 'upset' and told his little brother that 'splashing pretty girls is not very nice.'
i splashed the little boy back, and then the older boy stood up. he wound up, then jumped into the pool with the biggest splash he could muster. he pretty much drenched me, and when he stood up, he looked at me, saw my sunglasses dripping with water, and asked, 'did i getcha?' i laughed, and said 'um, i think a little bit'. he pretended to be SO sorry, and then swam over. he said, 'so..you got a name?' and i told him, and he thought it was so pretty. he hopped out of the pool, and sat right beside me. he told me his name was zane-rhymes with rain-and he's from ohio. we talked for maybe an hour? i'm not sure, but this is when i noticed mom was watching me-i turned around to see if she was still there and i saw her head whip back down to her book as if that was all she had been doing this whole time.
we talked about school, and he told me he was homeschooled (that gornicke family comment was not appreciated, mother). we talked about stereotypes, and cliques, and other random stuff-then he said, 'i haven't even seen your eyes yet. your sunglasses have been on the whole time.' i took them off, and he told me my eyes were SO beautiful, and that he couldn't stop staring at them. :teeth: his siblings kept coming up to us and asking zane why he wasn't playing with them anymore-he told them he was talking to a girl and sent them on 'missions' such as swimming around the entire pool (that took ten minutes to complete) and touching every red lifeguard umbrella and waiting ten seconds to swim to the next one (there were about 15 red umbrellas).
we continued to talk, and then mom came up to announce that we were leaving, and that i had to say goodbye. (come on, mom, 5 more minutes!!)
i gave him a hug, and told him to have a good rest of his trip. he wished me the same, and then i went to dry off. mom said, 'that boy is still watching you miss chloe. did you get his myspace?' (my friends told me to take pictures of any cute boys i saw on the trip. we had left the camera in the room-smart idea to get the myspace, mom!) i said no-she told me to go get it and say goodbye, and to catch up to her. so i walked over as he pretended he hadnt been watching. i asked if he had a myspace, and he said he did-he told me all of his info, and then i said goodbye, and gave him a hug. he kissed me on the cheek, and i walked away stunned and holding my cheek. i practically ran over to mom and told her what happened! she, being the typical mom, said 'that's a little forward chloe.' (why couldnt she just jump up and down and squeal like i wanted to do? lol)
the rest of the trip went without a hitch-everything that she had painstakenly planned for me was wonderful: i am so thankful for those countless hours spent stressing over what would make me happiest.
i can't thank you enough, mom, for everything you have done for me, especially for this trip. i love you so much!

oh my gosh so was I! And being the mom of a 10 year old, I have no idea why. BUT I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that your mom realizes you are growing up ( I know 16 yr olds HATE that phrase!) and you two are moving to a different level in your relationship....I need a tissue....

You and Chloe are adorable - you certainly look like sisters and not mother/daughter.

Showered, fresh and ready to impress, we rolled out of Pop on the Magic Kingdom bus around 7. We left really early for our reservation because I had a feeling that we might be too tired (or that her ankle might start bothering her) and that we would want to go straight back to the hotel after dinner.
We got to Magic Kingdom early enough to run in and get a few photopass pictures before turning around and heading to the GF. This was our first trip thru the Magic Kingdom front gate on this trip. We rushed in thru security and the turnstiles and, just as we were rounding the circle to get our first glimpse of the castle, I grabbed her hand and said “We’re HERE!” Yes, we have been in WDW for two days and two nights so far, but now that we are walking down Main Street together, we are really, REALLY here at Disney World. We held hands and walked down main street together and felt so happy to be here together, sharing in this moment…..I think I said that already, but it’s just as true at this moment as it was yesterday morning.
We walked down Main Street and waited for Photopass. Just as it was our turn, a CM selling a massive handful of balloons stopped in the hub. The balloons were in the photographer’s frame. He waited for her to move and she started to and then she stopped and sold a balloon. We waited and smiled and waited some more. It’s a little awkward to begin with to be dressed so inappropriately for a theme park. Now, we have to wait and hold the “Cheese” until balloon lady moves while everyone in line (and walking by) stares at us. She’s about to move along and oops. Someone else wants a balloon. Seriously. Balloon Lady. Take two Giant steps backward. Mother may I?
Here’s the best of what we got from our 20 minute visit to Magic Kingdom.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/6cabc63f.jpg
This has to be a record for the shortest visit to Magic Kingdom. It’s hard to leave so soon since we JUST got here and it’s our first breath of Magic Kingdom air!!
Should we take the monorail or the boat? We decide that the boat would be quicker and more fun. We depart just as it starts to sprinkle. It’s a good thing that we brought an umbrella. Chloe and I used the umbrella as a shield from the rain blowing in and tussled for space behind it all the way to the GF. Good choice to take the boat, huh?
I have never been to Narcoossee’s but it’s not difficult to find. We arrive 20 minutes early for our reservation. People without reservations are being turned away as was another party that had reservations for 9:25. We are given a pager and we go out to the deck to enjoy the view and take some photos.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1576.jpg
I think that it was 830 when the pager went off and we went inside. We were seated at a window table with a perfect view of Magic Kingdom. I didn’t even request it! What luck….AGAIN!
As this is a two dining point per person meal and, as I already told you, I am a cheapskate, I insist that Chloe must order the most expensive items to get Mommy’s money’s worth. Chloe, darling, should Mommy get the filet and the lobster tail or whole lobster? Hmmm. Decisions, decisions. Chloe chooses the surf and turf and I get the entire lobster.

Dessert was delicious. I ordered a strawberry shortcake – not on the allearsnet.com menu - and Chloe had the mango sorbet and berries.
Dinner for two, including tax and tip came to about $175, but with dining plan, I only paid for the tip OOP. We signed the check at 9:55 and walked outside to stand on the deck to enjoy Wishes. There was a server standing guard at the door to ensure that only patrons of the restaurant were utilizing this prime viewing spot. I like that!
I videotaped the show and Miss Chloe’s reaction to it. What a great, great magical night. I called this part of the trip report Bella Notte because it really was!
Oh this is the night, it's a beautiful night
And we call it bella notte
Look at the skies, they have stars in their eyes
On this lovely bella notte.
Side by side with your loved one,
You'll find enchantment here.
The night will weave its magic spell,
When the one you love is near!
Oh this is the night, and the heavens are right
On this lovely bella notte
She’s feeling great and we decide to jump on the monorail and go into the park for some pictures after all. On our way thru the lobby of the GF, I wanted to get photos of Chloe. Someday, Chloe will be getting married here. She has already decided. Someday, I will be watching her standing here in her wedding dress. :sad1:

We did have to get back to Pop to pack our belongings. Tomorrow we had to move on to part two of our trip – camping at the Wilderness Lodge. We bought some cinnamon rolls at the bakery for tomorrow’s breakfast and reluctantly bid adieu to our magical night. This was one of those nights that you just wish would go on forever. I think it will be one of my favorite memories.

That sounds like a fabulous night. There are benefits to having no screaming toddlers attached to you, refusing to pose for the photopass people "just one more time." Your photos are great! The food at Narcoosee's was presented very beautifully. I will put it on my next trip list.

Loving your trip report!!
I'm 17, and I'd love if my mom surprised me with a trip to WDW. That's quite unlikely, considering I live in Brazil and just returned from USA. :sad1:
I have one question, how did you copy your photopass pictures to your thread? :confused3 I can't figure out how to copy them to put here.

I'm not the OP but maybe I can help. Do you have a CD with your pictures on it? If so, then you need to up-load the pictures to a photo sharing site. (for example Photobucket or the one on the DIS --> there are other sites, but my mind if going blank right now. :rotfl2: ) Once you have up-loaded the pictures, copy the "direct link" entry (at least on Photobucket). Next in the post that you want to add the picture to, click on the photo icon (it is the one with the mountains) and then paste in the link that you have just copied.

This morning is the first morning of the trip that is not initiated by a Mickey wake up call. Our plans for today are to check out, eat breakfast, play our free round of minigolf and checkin at the Wilderness Lodge.
We had packed most everything last night after returning from Magic Kingdom. As today dawned, we leisurely tidied up and got ready to leave the Pop behind. I cannot recall why but we decided that we could schlep the luggage with us on the way to the food court. Let me tell you that the walk is a great deal shorter without four suitcases. And gigantic cinnamon rolls. And that big Coach bag. And a Mickey back back.
We had discovered at the airport that the wheels on both of the large suitcases were broken. Chloe insisted on grabbing them both and carrying them. Chloe and manual labor are like oil and water so it was very out of character for the Princess to insist on strenuous activity! I recognized that this was Chloe working so hard to show me how thankful she was for the trip. She would grab the bags, do a Herculean heave and run 20 steps then slam them back down. Heave and run. Breathe. Breathe. That a girl. Show Mommy how thankful you are for this trip. :) It went on like that for about half the distance of the resort until we came upon a gentleman walking towards the food court. He offered to get the bags for Chloe. Initially, we declined and he said "No. Here." Chloe allowed him to carry them and he did aaaaaalll the way to the food court. We thanked him immensely and carried them into the lobby. And down past the checkin desk. And out the side door to bell services....ending up about 200 yards from where the man started carrying our bags. Look at the resort map to the Pop. You can see that we did one, gigantic circle. Ooops. I don't know why I forgot where the luggage service desk was. How could we forget being there at 2 a.m. three days ago?
Luggage dropped off, we went to the food court to get a drink to go with our Cinnamon Rolls. Chloe went thru the line for chocolate milk and I just got a diet coke in my refillable mug *purchased fresh for this trip.* I saw the CM at the register speaking with Chloe while she made her purchase. We walked outside and found an umbrella table and sat. Chloe said that she had told the CM that she liked her pin and the CM said thank you and gave her a brand new Year of a Million Dreams pin. That was nice! Chloe was really happy.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1605.jpg
As we were eating, it started to sprinkle just a little but the sky looked dark. We muddled around a bit, trying to decide what we should do. We decided that we didn't want to risk being human lightening rods at the minigolf and just head over to the Wilderness Lodge. Honestly, I think that we were looking for an excuse to go explore the great outdoors.
When I originally started planning this trip, it was to be a counterpart to my husband's annual Memorial Day camping trip. I booked the Wilderness Lodge so that someone in the family would continue the family "tradition" of camping for the holiday.
Chloe and I never really gave this place much thought. Actually, to be perfectly accurate, Chloe and I have every intention of falling short of staying at every single resort on Disney property because we would never stay at "Sports" or "Wilderness." I mean, come on. Nothing about either of those two words appeals to her (us).
How ironic is it that we're skipping today's daily itinerary to rush over to the wild outdoors? We caught the bus to Magic Kingdom, jumped out at the bus station and walked out to the docks to wait for the boat.
We made our way up the dock and into the lobby. I think that I heard a gasp from Chloe but I think that she'll deny it if you ask her. As I made eye contact with a CM, I said in my nicest, practiced "please upgrade me 'cuz I'm a great person in general and especially at Disney" voice that we were here to check in. It was taking a long time because the CM saw that there was something wrong with the package. The dining was not showing up on the reservation and she spent some time trying to get this worked out. I, of course, stayed calm, polite and smiley still hoping for a comp upgrade. I'm greedy. I know. I really was striving to give my DD and I the very best trip possilbe.
Chloe has disappeared with my camera. I missed spending this part of the trip with her because I was busy smiling at the CM behind the desk. Chloe had run off to take pictures of the lobby while I worked out the business at hand. She came back and a different CM asked her about her lanyard. Chloe was still sporting her original, purple Tinkerbell lanyard with two sets of identical pins. When the CM asked her if she wanted to trade, Chloe agreed and picked out a pin.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1623.jpg
The CM at the Pop had given her a pin and now at the Wilderness Lodge another one offered to trade pins with her. Later on, Chloe confessed to me that she didn't realize that this is what the lanyard was for. She thought that it was just to hang around your neck and had no idea about pin trading at all. Too be fair, I must admit that I have successfully shielded my children from the whole pin trading phenomenon. When taking trips with THREE or FOUR children, I knew that this little hobby was one that I couldn't (well, didn't want to) support. With just one child to entertain on this trip, I really wanted to spoil her so I got her started with a lanyard. What she doesn't know is that I have been shopping Ebay for weeks at home and have a whole stash of pins that I plan to give her at various points this week.
The CM gets the reservation straight and we are given a card to call later on th check if our room is ready. We decide to grab some lunch while we wait. I get a Chicken salad and Chloe gets Chicken nuggets and the biggest brownie that I have ever seen.

The salad was disappointing but the view wasn't. Chloe and I were instantly flustered and in love with this place. Yes, you heard me. This is an amazing resort. Amazing.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1631.jpg
We finally have a room and Chloe and I take the elevator upstairs. We get off the elevator and thru the hallway looking for our room. I start thinking (the way the room #s are going) that have been given a courtyard room and tell Chloe that. She shouts and we start running, trying to find our room. It's like an Easter Egg hunt and we're looking for the prize egg. We run all the way around the fifth floor and don't find our room. We reverse and run back the opposite direction looking for the room. There it is....on the opposite side of the big picture window looking out over the courtyard. Ok, so it's not a courtyard view room. We open the door and rush over to the window and open the curtains and see.....TREES. At the Wilderness Lodge. How ironic. I look to the left and off in the distance is the top of the Great Ceremonial House at the Polynesian. I can't see Magic Kingdom but I guess that it's way over to the left of where we are standing out of sight to us.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1666.jpg
Chloe calls for bell services to bring us our luggage. We'd like to multitask and have the luggage delivered while we are out at the Animal Kingdom for our fun at Extra Magic Hours. Chloe rolls her eyes and announces (use your spoiled princess voice) "They won't bring the luggage unless we're in our room, MOM!!!" I tell her let them know that we will wait for the luggage and they should bring it up. She tells them and I decide to pass the time enjoying a good book.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1669.jpg
I'm reading the section on the Wilderness Lodge and trying to figure out where in the lodge we are. PLEASE do not laugh but I don't know if this is the standard view that you get with a standard view room or if we have indeed been upgraded from standard to woods view.....yes, I see woods but are there better woods than others? All trees are equal, but some are more equal than others or so I've heard.
About five minutes later, there's a knock at the door and it's Bell Services! Cannot believe how fast that was. We ask the bellman "Which side of the resort is Magic Kingdom?" He says that it's straight ahead of us outside of the balcony and that we should have a perfect view of Wishes! Are you serious?! That's fantastic! I wonder if that's listed in my book and is that a standard view or a wood's view?
Next up: Not so magical Extra Magic Hours

We've got a room. Check. A view? Check. Luggage? Check. Let's roll!
What I didn't tell you in the last installment that when we had been waiting for a few hours for our room to be ready, we had only spotted one elevator which was beyond the lobby, down passed the pool, beside the rest rooms....So when our room is ready, we headed out of the lobby, passed the pool doors, the "food court", the public phones, the rest rooms, to get on the elevator....We walked and walked then ran and ran to find our room!
Now that we are ready to head out, my younger yet wiser DD spotted elevators very close to our room. We took those and guess what? They drop you off...right...in....the.....lobby! This is a fancy place. We wandered around looking for the bus stop to take us to Animal Kingdom...ending up outside in luggage services with all the big bins that they use to transfer the luggage (what is up with me and luggage services this trip?) and Chloe saying "I told you this wasn't it, Mom." Gee, thanks honey.
We asked for directions (no husband with us this trip) and got ourselves to the bus stop. Whew. We should have brought a compass because I am not going to remember my way back.
We arrive at AK with two objectives. Chloe has never seen the Jungle Jammin' Parade and we have never been in the park after dark. I want to take cool pictures of Everest with the lights on and ride it (front car only :snooty: ) to look around at the view at night.
We arrive just in time to find a spot near the safari for the parade. We get a nice, sunny spot which aids with the current afternoon heat and humidity. We had planned to use up our last two snack points (from our Pop package) tonight on ice cream for dinner. I leave Chloe and run over to the snack stand and get two waters and two milkshakes. We watch and wait and sweat for a little while....as parade time approaches, the CMs start directing people out of the parade route for their safety...that's about the time my Disney OCD kicks in and I'm thinking that I should run and get a fast pass for the Safari. AAAALLL of these people are going to rush into the Safari and swarm the line and wouldn't it be handy to have a fast pass? I think about taking my chances and bolting across the street but I'm afraid of 1. getting caught and reprimanded and 2. having the parade start and getting stuck on the opposite side of the street from Chloe. So we don't get fast passes. Hey, look kids - a chicken at Animal Kingdom.
Chloe drank her milkshake super fast and isn't feeling well. She sits down during the parade and misses out on meeting and greeting with the characters in the parade. I run over as soon as the parade is over and get fastpasses. I was here in January over Martin Luther King weekend and all of these passes were gone by 1 p.m. so this is great luck.
I suggest that we walk thru the Pangani forest. Walking off a milkshake-induced bellyache is probably not the best advice I could give. Chloe sat down at every exhibit and I felt guilty spending so much time watching the gorillas (my FAVORITE!).

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1638.jpg
We take our chances and walk over to see the wait time for Kali River which is only 10 minutes. What a lucky day!
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1647.jpg
We end up in a boat with a family in ponchos that only spoke Spanish. As the ride went on, they were chatting and looking at us, probably saying "Look at the big dopes with no ponchos!" As Kali karma would have it, the big dopes got soaked and the spanish family folded up and put away their nice, dry ponchos.
This is a random picture of tourists:

As you may have noticed, my report has not been coming at a regular pace. As there has been a significant lag, I'll recap who, what and where thus far.
Who
Chloe
This trip is just for my DD, Chloe. No cute name for her. Chloe's good enough. She really is a spoiled, little princess which was cute until she turned 12. That's when it became a little overwhelming. I'm sure other mothers of girls this age know what I mean. If your daughter is still in the throws of adolescence, I can assure you that 17 is like the calm after the storm of the terrible 2's and 3's. That's where we are now. So hang on. The eye of the hurricane will pass and the sun will shine again. With occasional t-storms and tornado warnings.
Me
As my name implies, very busy mom to four kiddos. Chloe and my three sons. And two dogs. And a minivan that drives around in circles night after night. Except at Disneyworld...maybe THAT'S why I go so much. :rotfl: I love Disneyworld. The obsession started years ago when I was a SAHM and we couldn't afford to go. That was before I found out about the Dis board, codes, or annual passes.
My very first trip to any Disney park was to Disneyland in California with Chloe. Chloe was doing a show in Phoenix for a month and one night, I drove us through the desert in the middle of the night to Anaheim to go to Disneyland for just one day. You know that song that says how it never rains in Southern California? Well, on our very first trip to Disney, it rained for most of the day. We had a BALL! Nothing could prevent us from enjoying our first taste of a Disney park.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/disneyland08.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/disneyland10.jpg
Chloe's jeans are soaked up to her hips but she was still smiling!
This trip with Chloe brings me up to my eighth trip to Walt Disney World. Each trip has been for a unique experience (like Star Wars weekend, my "baby's" 7th birthday party) and it's still just as fun on trip eight as it was on trip one. Maybe more so because now we know the reality of it and miss it and wait for our turn to play again....
Ok, so back to the report. We are on Day 4. Just having left Animal Kingdom. That's where we'll start next.

Returning to the Wilderness perks up Chloe for a little while. She goes for another swim and we go up to the room to change for dinner. She feels kind of warm after her shower and wants to take a nap. Who is warm after a swim & a shower? This can't be good.
I take the opportunity to review The Top Seven Attractions at Walt Disney World and wait. I feel her forehead while she is sleeping. Yep. She's cooking. Looks like we're in for the evening. Having made it all the way to the #1 attraction at Walt Disney World, I get dressed and head down to Roaring Forks to get dinner. I buy comfort food. A PB&J uncrustable for sleeping beauty and chicken nuggets, chocolate pudding & diet coke for me. Not gourmet but good. I also took the opportunity to take tourist pictures....the view of lamps from outside of our room:

Chloe wakes up and eats a little and we wait for Wishes. The bellman said that we could see it from here so we look through the trees and wait.
And he was RIGHT! I did not take any pictures but I can assure you that you can definitely see the top 70% of the fireworks from this standard (?) view room. The best part is, you can turn around, walk back inside and crawl into bed to sleep. I would give up the bottom 30% of Wishes to avoid lining up and cramming into a bus if given the opportunity again. This is definitely a luxury. I called home and spoke to DH while watching Wishes - not to rub it in. DH tolerates (and sometimes enjoys) the World but doesn't want to go as often as I do (to state it politely). I called to let him know how happy I was to be here, sharing in this moment with Chloe.
We went to bed, night one of our camping trip, in our comfy beds amongst the trees and slept like babies. Camping isn't so bad, is it Chloe?

YAY!! :cool1: An update! Hummm, I am wondering how Chloe's fever will end up? Hopefully it didn't last too long. That is so nice that you could see Wishes from your balcony!

Bizeemom4:
Oh my goddness, I am so enjoying your trip report. As I read along I think about my DD14 - Rae, We call Princess Rae, although she has many other names too.:lmao:
If she new it was from WalMart, she absolutely would not wear it. Maybe I'll cut some tags out of her Abercrombie stuff and sew them in. Then, she'll be proud to strut around in her nice, new "expensive" bathing suit.
I love this. Rae would never wear a swim suit from Wal$#%@, but I love the idea of taking the tags off.
Detox with Pixie Dust
As I read this with my new DH we both laughed because you were describing Rae perfectly. I loved it. If it's okay with you can we please use your idea and also call her Rhino. That's so fabulous.
Your trip sounds like such a perfect idea. :woohoo:
We did a surprise trip in 2006, with all of my kids, (3) 2 boys and Princess Rae (she's the baby). It was such a fun surprises.
We're heading back to Disney in 10 days for a 10 day trip. I can't wait and she is so excited. I have a pretrip report if you would like to read it, the link is at the bottom of my signature.
By the way what did you think about "Nineteen Minutes"? Did you finish it? Did you let Chloe read it? Rae wants to read it.
I can't wait to read more.

I hope that you get a great room too. It was super nice to be able to watch Wishes without having to drag a sick kid out. I bet after two nights that you'll be wishing for more. I did and I never thought that I would even like it!

Hi! Of course you can borrow it for Rae. From the mom of one rhino to another, it's my pleasure. ;)
I did finish 19 Minutes, but not on the trip. It was disturbing yet a must read. I tried to get Chloe to read it but then she got involved with summer work for her then-upcoming schoolyear and didn't have time. If you have doubts about the content, maybe read it first and decide?

I did read it in less then 3 days, and yes I found it rather distrubing also, and again like you said "a Must read" Rae started it but I decided to take it away from her, she didn't get very far. She keeps asking me if she can read it but I'm just not sure. Although it's better then "The Pack" have you read that?
Oh well enough about books.
Thanks for letting me use Rhino, I just love that...:cool1: Her older brother will really like that.

Our wake up call comes and we are awake quickly. I ask Miss Chloe how she's feeling and if she wants to go to Magic Kingdom. She said that she feels fine! YAY! I lay out my clothes and get in the shower. Chloe gets in the shower and while I am getting dressed, I notice that Chloe has picked out the same outfit!!! I did not intentionally pack us matching outfits, nor would I have ever asked her at her age to dress like her old mother. I took this as a very nice compliment and a throwback to the old days when we first went and I bought four little matching Disney tshirts for each of the kids for every day of our trip.
Our goal each day is to get deep into the park at rope drop and be front runners of the pack. We succeeded at AK (with 4 hours of sleep) and at MGM (when we were the first ones of the day on TOT). So I am stressing this morning as we find ourselves running LATE. Why does the thought of arriving at 8:05 at the HAPPIEST place on Earth cause me physical and emotional stress? We arrive at the bus stop and NO ONE is there so I am sure that we just missed the MK bus. Drat. We're definitely going to miss it now.
:wizard: A bus comes in a few short minutes and :wizard: doesn't stop anywhere else and takes us straight to Magic Kingdom. :wizard: We hop out, run down and around towards MK, smile at the security guard rifling thru the Baggalini and then we bolt to the gates - which have not yet opened. HOW on Earth did we manage that? Another lucky day for us. I tell you, it's the parking level 7 at the airport. I'm only going to park there from now on. It has brought us luck each and every day of this trip.
If you have ever traveled with me to Magic Kingdom (a shout out to my sister and BIL :wave2: ), then you would know that the travel time between opening of the Magic Kingdom and Cinderella's castle is about 2.3 seconds. MOVE! RUN! You can breath when you are on the ride. So here we are, Chloe and I hot-footing it straight to Fantasyland. We slow down to glance over our shoulders at about three-quarters of the way there. EVERYONE is poking along. We look at each other and can't believe it...I start to say to Chloe "What are these people doing?" and my DD screams "Keep moving, MOM!" Like mother, like daughter, I guess.
To the victor....goes the castle.

We continue to goof around, mugging for pictures and the CM asks us to please sit down and buckle our belt. Ok, Mr. Cast Member, but no one else is even here yet?!! We do as we are told, sitting in the SAME Dumbo and click. MAGIC. We are instantly soaring into the air...all...by....ourselves. :wizard:

We actually had a very full morning, including a triple mountain whammy!
While in line to meet Peter & Wendy, Chloe spotted a pin on a CM that she had been looking for...already. It didn't take her to catch on and start a collection. She did a trade and then got her picture taken.

TWINS!
We had lunch at our favorite counter service - Peco's Bill. We split the chicken wrap, got apple slices instead of fries and got chilli cheese fries instead of dessert. We didn't know that we could do that until the CM suggested it to us.

We returned to the Magic Kingdom that evening for a ride on the Riverboat (a first for Chloe - see her picture above), the Laugh Floor, the second triple mountain whammy, Wishes and Spectromagic. A few moments before Spectro was to start, we found a seat on the pavement near Peco's Bills and bought two gigantic Churros. We had never eaten a Churro before and decided that since it had been a few hours since dinner, we should eat more food. We decided that Churros translated means "cinnamon cardboard" and next time won't be getting that particular snack.
Spectro was fun as usual. There's something about the music that seeps into your brain. I find myself humming the song for days afterward. It makes good dancing music on the way to the exits anyway. Really, is there anything happier at Disneyworld than waltzing down Main Street at the end of a long, satisfying day while humming the soundtrack to Spectromagic? Sigh.

Our second morning at the Lodge is very much like yesterday. Wake up call. Showers. Makeup. Today, I emerged from the shower to find that Chloe has again picked out matching outfits.
Way, way back at the beginning of my Pre-Trip report, I was discussing how to reveal this surprise trip to Chloe. When I was at the Disney Store looking for inspiration, I found this cute Cinderella glass box.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1815.jpg
I had considered putting a note that revealed the secret inside the box. As you know, that's not how the story unfolded but I didn't return the box. I brought it along with all the other presents that I had bought her. WHERE IS SHE GOING WITH THIS, you ask? Well, yesterday at Magic Kingdom, we popped into Tinkerbell's Treasures and bought tiny crowns to wear. She's a princess and I've become a little girl again, remember?
When Chloe was in the shower, I went down and asked a CM at the front desk if I could get an autograph of Cinderella that I could put with a present that I had bought. The CM didn't understand what I wanted. I explained to her again that I was going to leave this present for my DD in the room and would it be possible for me to leave a note or something that said "From Cinderella" while we were out of the room. She said and I quote "You want a piece of paper?" AGH! I explained it again and she went thru the doors behind the front desk. She must have asked someone behind the scenes what this crazy woman wanted because when she came back, she asked me for my DD's name and our room number.
Back to the room and Chloe is ready. I dodge her questions about where I have been. We catch the bus to MK again. And again, we arrive before rope drop. Today is not an AM/EMH so we get to see the "morning" show. I don't even watch the show anymore....I like to pick out the first timers and watch their expressions as they see Mickey and friends. Is that weird? I hope it isn't because it really is fun and sweet to see people having so much fun. 3.2.1...the Magic Kingdom is OPEN! Ok, lady. The fun's over. Time to run up Main Street. Again.
This morning, we are headed to Big Thunder to try to be first on the ride for the day. Somehow, after the Adventureland rope drop, the crowd went one way and we ended up running a different direction. We met up with the crowd around Peco's Bills and the CMs seemed surprised to see us come from the other way. Maybe that way was supposed to be blocked? There was no one there and nothing was roped off so we went, not having any idea that we weren't supposed to be there. We 'walked' with the crowd the rest of the way to the place where Splash and BTMR diverge. We were on the left side of the crowd and needed to go right. The majority of the crowd wanted to go to Splash and needed to go left. Awkward. We 'blended' our way thru the crowd and arrived at the entrance to BTMR right behind a single guy - probably early 20's. Truly, HE was the first guest at BTMR but the CM said "Princess. We'll let you go first." Of course I was thrilled to have again 'opened' a ride at Walt Disney World. Chloe told me later in the day that she saw the guy's face and he looked 'crushed.' I wish that she would have told me that - we would have let him be the princess and go first.
Lunch today was at Columbia Harbor House. It had been on my list to try for a long time but I had never been. The first floor was busy but I had read a tip on here to go upstairs. We found our way upstairs and found a nice quiet table to allow Chloe to eat like a princess. Well, almost. She got a huge Nesquik with lunch and spilled the majority of it all over the table and floor. Chloe went to find someone to tell them that she had spilled it and to grab a bunch of napkins. A CUTE CM came to her rescue and not only helped her clean it up but reappeared with a brand new container. Aww. It helps to be young and cute, I guess.
The view is great from up here.

When we saw Cinderella's stepmother and stepsisters, oh my goodness. Chloe got lots of attention because of her princess crown and they just seemd to really enjoy picking on my flower pot hat. They also wanted to know why Chloe's crown was so small. I love these ladies though. I could listen to them make fun of people all day!

I had gone to get a Photopass photographer to take her picture and she woke up with a strange man taking her picture. I'm sure that she'll laugh about it someday but she was a little mad that I would do that.
After the parade, we saw Push, the talking Trash Can. He asked Chloe who she was here with and when she said her MOM, he told her that he thought we were sisters. I was like, Yeah, right! He's just being nice to the old lady. BUT this was a comment that was repeated over and over during the rest of the trip and after a while I started to think "What the heck? Maybe we do look like sisters?" I'm the fat, OLDER sister but that's ok.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1906.jpg
I can't remember what rides we did to finish out our day today. I'm sure that Chloe made me go on the Haunted Mansion a few more times. For some strange reason, she wanted me to go on Haunted Mansion over and over this trip. After the fifth request, I was like "AGAIN?" :scared1:
We had dinner reservations at Kona tonight. We monorailed over and got our pager. We went to the front desk and I asked if we had to be staying at the resort to get a lei. We didn't have to be so Chloe and I each got lucky.
We found a gift shop called Bo-TIKI which made us miss Chloe's little dog named TIKI. We took a picture of the sign and browsed around and then went up to wait for our table.
Dinner tonight was the fillet mignon again - nothing but the best for my sweetie. Ok, I won't eat anything cheap when on the dining plan but that's beside the point. Chloe didn't like her fillet - ordered it well done and it came out medium which she won't eat. She wouldn't let me send it back but the server noticed that she didn't eat it.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1968.jpg
Dessert met with Chloe's approval. It's worth every penny to see my girl this happy.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1976.jpg
She comped us ice cream with dessert to make up for messing up her $30+ entree. She should have sent it back but, as I said before, some things aren't worth fighting with a Rhino. I didn't want to ruin one bit of this trip by fighting.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/IMG_1975.jpg
Kilauea Torte - so ooey, gooey.
The spreadsheet says that we were going to hang out at the Polynesian and watch the Pirate & Princess party fireworks from this resort; however, after dinner, we were feeling a need to UNBUTTON. We headed back to the Magic Kingdom to catch the launch back to the Wilderness Lodge.
Riding up the elevator, I'm thinking about the "piece of paper" that I asked the CM for at the WL this morning. Will they figure out that the Cinderella box is the present? Did they leave a note from Cindy? I BLAST past Chloe and tell her to hang on a second. I am sure that she thought that I'd gone looney. I am pleased with what I see and tell her to come in.

I got lots of thank you's from the princess!
We have time for a quick phone call home. We turn on Fox and watch the last few minutes of American Idol's FINALE while talking to the folks back home. It was SO cool to find out together that our FAVORITE, David Cook, WON! We cheered together from 1,000 miles apart. We said our goodbyes and watched the Pirates Wishes while lying down on my bed on our bellies, heads propped in our hands. We were SO HAPPY! This is an evening that will stay in my mind for a long time.
Tomorrow - The camping trip is OVER!

Great update! Wow, the card from Cinderella is amazing. More than I would ever expect Disney to do, but I guess that's why its Disney-they go above your expectations. :goodvibes
So funny about Chloe falling asleep. Can't wait for another update.

This update is great! I love the picture of Chloe asleep! I can remember all of us being so tired but not wanting to give up and go back to the resort. It's hard to leave!!
Ok, you crack me up with the unbuttoning after dinner! :lmao: Yes, I can relate to that too!
You have made me want to take my 17 year old daughter to Disney, just a girls trip, but I think my husband and our son would really object! You have made some wonderful memories that you and Chloe will always cherish. :flower3:

So I've been reading along for a couple days now trying to finish reading your whole TR that you have so far. It's GREAT! It's wonderful that you and Chloe (a name I love btw) got to get away together to the happiest place on Earth! I wish my mom and I could get the chance to do it one day :) It seems like you two are getting along really well so far too which is a definite plus...I'm only 21 so the fighting, screaming, yelling over everything days aren't that far behind me  Can't wait for another update :goodvibes

Morning comes on our last day at the Wilderness Lodge. We must pack up all of our treasures and move on to our final stop on our adventure.
Chloe called bell services to schedule them to pick up the bags for transfer to the Dolphin. The CM asked us if the bags were ready. No, just trying to schedule a pick up time. She told us to just call back when we are ready for them to come pick them up and they will be there. On other trips, I have been left waiting in the room for luggage assistance to come and pick up our stuff and I know that sometimes it takes awhile. I'm thinking that this is going to be a repeat of this because we have to wait until we are all packed, then call, then wait for them to fit us in with the rest of the people that have already called.
We finish packing and Chloe calls again half an hour or so later. Yes, this time we are ready. Ok, we prepare to wait and complain about how long this takes. I didn't even have time to dig the tip money out of my wallet when they were knocking on the door. It was like a scene on TV when they order something, hang up the phone, and immediately the doorbell is ringing with the delivery.
Goodbye, Wilderness Lodge. You were a most pleasant surprise. We'll be back with the rest of the family someday.
We bus over to Epcot and yes, another day of rope drop. On my solo trip that I made to the World back in January of this year, I am proud to say that I had been the very first guest to ride Soarin' for the day. Today, we are not, but that's ok. We still made it for opening and I'm proud of our hussle. We walked thru the regular que and onto the ride. We lucked into row 1. I always feel awkward asking because once a CM really embarassed me about asking for it.
We were Soarin' then Test Tracking....

Obligatory tourist picture....did you think we were really scared?
I took Chloe on the refurbished Spaceship Earth. This, along with the TTA, is an attraction that is my favorite, over and over ride. When my children take me to Disneyworld when I am old, they can load me on this ride and leave me for the day. Then they can blame it on me being a crazy, old lady. Nope, I just really love it. At Magic Kingdom, on the TTA, at least they will be able to wave and keep an eye on me as I go around and around and around. ;)

This guy was the King. LONG LIVE THE KING. He was so hilarious.

We tried on some VERY FRENCH (very stinky) perfume. I didn't intend to take a bath in it. It had a very powerful sprayer. Whew. I can clear the pathways just by smell alone!
We made our escape from Epcot through the back door and walked over to the Dolphin to check in early. I apologized to the agent for my smell and explained about the mishap in France. The agent was trying to be nice and said "I didn't even notice. I have you......Oh." Yeah. That's when the smell smacked him in the face. How truly embarassing.
I'm not sure if it was because we've stayed there a few times before or the standard rooms perhaps were overbooked (just a guess) but he told us that we had been upgraded to a Fireworks view room. :dance3: :woohoo: Keep in mind that I had a good discount here as well so it made it even sweeter because the fireworks rooms are a bit of a jump in price from standard.
We stunk up the elevator on our way to our room. I feel badly for the people that had to get on when the girls bathed in toilet water got off.
Here's our room.

We were going to go swimming but I had crawled into the bed to see if it was as comfortable as I remembered. Next thing I knew, it was time to get up and get ready for dinner.
Chloe has been taking French. She's a natural (naturally) and she took two years of French in the same year of school. She wouldn't shut up in French I and knew all the answers and drove everyone crazy so the teacher let her take the final and moved her to the end of French II. WHY AM I TELLING YOU THIS, you ask? Well, tonight is our Chefs de France reservation, of course. She has really been excited about this reservation since I told her at the airport.
We are a little early so I get a glass of Champagne from the booth.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/36b99460.jpg
This champagne went straight to my head because one minute I was asking Chloe to take my picture by the fountain and the next minute, Paris was spinning.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/balletmom2/May%202008%20Disney/f43caee5.jpg
I step back and let Mademoiselle check us in. It's not a long wait. As we are walking in, Chloe passes the manager and staff and they comment about her beautiful dress.
Chloe is in her element. French people, french food, ooh la la.

Fun update! You ended up with such a great view. You're making me think it might be worth it to pay for one of those views someday.
I had just started taking French before my family's second trip to Epcot in '87. I remember I was babbling away at my sister while in line at the patisserie when a CM started conversing with me in French. Err, ahh, oui...? All of my limited knowldge of French seemed to escape my brain when it came to speaking French to an actual French person. I was as embarrassed as it's possible to be when you are 15, but it's a fun memory. I'm guessing your daughter is not as shy as I was.

Well, she asked someone where the bathroom was in French but her French (maybe the accent) was so bad, apparently, that he slapped his hand to his forehead. LOL. She was embarassed about that.

Here's a strange question for you... when you walked over the to Epcot using the International Gateway, did you hear those crazy frogs at night? When we went in May last year there were so many frogs in the bushes, croaking REALLY loudly! I wondered if they were there when you went. :confused3

I'm taking French this year but it doesn't seem to come as naturally to me as it does to your DD. Actually...my French teacher is probably about ready to strangle me if I say "Jermappelle" again. It's the accent, I swear! ;)
