In leaving the airport and heading East on 528 (about 40 miles from the airport)- you will come into Merritt Island - THE FIRST EXIT which is State Road 3 or North Courtenay Parkway - get off and go about 2 or so miles - you will find a Publix, Winn Dixie, Walgreens, Eckerds, Target and a lot more - after leaving you will head North (same way you came in )
BEFORE GOING UNDER 528 you will see a turn off to put you back on East 528 - go about 4 miles and wala --there you are at the port - its simple and you won't get lost - if you do call me at the shop and we can help.
Have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Even closer to 528 is a Winn Dixie in Cocoa. Its the first exit after you go over I-95 as you head east. The Winn Dixie is about 2/10 of a mile south of the ramp getting off 528.
The other poster is correct about the Publix in M.I. but it is about 2 miles vs two/tenths of a mile.

Hi - the reason I suggested Merritt Island exit due to all the different stores surrounding the 2 groceries stores including Dollar store, drugstores, fast foods, and a few other interesting things - I do agree 524 is closer but the shopping is more expansive in Merritt Island -
Take care and stay safe.

I personally prefer Publix to Winn Dixie, but I have several Publix's and Winn Dixie's, including the ones Shirley and UMFanatic mentioned, on my Space Coast maps:

Do any or all of the grocery stores mentioned sell wine and beer? Are we allowed to bring our own wine aboard and drink it in the evenings on our verandah?

That's not a stupid question because that tends to vary from state-to-state. Yes, in Florida, you can buy beer and wine in all of the grocery stores mentioned. And yes, you are allowed to bring your own wine on board and enjoy it in the evenings on your verandah.
