There were more severe storms in our area last night. We were pretty lucky - the worst of it stayed west and south of us. We did get one heck of a lightening show though.

This is what the sky looked like when I first set the tripod up (in the front seat of the car -with me straddling it :scared: )

It wasn't 30 seconds later and the sky looked like this...

I was so excited - had never caught lightening like that and we were in the perfect location to get more. Then.. :( we were told to move. Lightening had struck a house and "the boss" wanted "his photographer" to go to the house and get shots of the fire dept in action. So off we went - me grumbling the entire way.

After I got some shots there - we moved back to where we had been originally. By then things were quieting down and the Skywarn net was being closed. We stuck around for a little while longer and I managed to get a few more shots. Not nearly as dramatic - it was a bummer.

My wide angle lens should be here tomorrow. We have a slight chance of activation tomorrow afternoon and a greater one on Saturday night. I can't wait to try out that wide angle lens for lightening shots!

Jen do you know how jealous I am, I would love to chase storms like you guys get to do. (you guys have any openings, like my wife would let me go:lmao:)
I would be an  by now if I had your job because I would not have enought intelligence to stop and turn around when I came up on a storm like that. Those photos sre great and the one with the lighting is spectacular.

Wow, Jen, those photos are spectacular! The first one brings back some memories from waaaaaaay back - when I was about 8 or 10, we were visiting my aunt and uncle who lived in Ottumwa, Iowa during the summer. We were out shopping or something and the tornado warnings went out. I don't remember much about the dash to get back to their house, but I *DO* remember how the sky and everything had this weird green cast to it. It's one of those things that's hard to describe, but you never forget it.

I like the fire truck shots, too - did you use a star filter on your lens, or was it just an aperture thing? (I'm too tired to remember correctly - large or small aperture gives the star effect??)

Again, great job! I always think of the movie "Twister" when I hear about storm chasers - you guys are BRAVE!

Super shots Jennifer. It was definitely one heck of a light show last night. Unfortunately I was at my daughter's volleyball practice and didn't have time to attempt any shots. Luckily not too much wind for us this time around. But, my rain gauge shows right at 3 inches from last night's storm. Have fun with the new lens for the next round this weekend!

Very cool lightning! I even saw those storms on the news here (MI). Looks like there was quite a bit of damage in the town they showed on the news.
