Greetings and welcome! You are entering the very private mind of a fellow OCD Disney cruise mate. Unfortunately for you, it’s an interesting journey to say the least. This is my, er, my daughter's that is, school report on our trip through the Panama Canal - Westbound - departing May 10, 2008. So grab some popcorn, and stay a while. . . popcorn::
Let’s start with intros, shall we? Main menu – Jolene – 32 y.o. divorced mother of 2, recently returned stateside after 9 years overseas. I am unoficially a computer/support worker for a college. My official title, though, (which I don't get paid for) is Disney Commando Trip Planner. Our first cruise was a 4 night Wonder trip in January of 2006.
DD6 (I refer to her as :dogdance: )and DD3 (She is :ccat: ) ***I just spent 10 minutes looking for a kitty icon, the Cheshire cat was the closest I could find!*** – transplanted Australian bush babies to the land of wind chills, snow and ice, you know. . . Northwest Minnesota. DD3 has an Australian accent, which I can’t figure out when technically, she has only lived from ages 0-6 months and 18 months-2yrs in Australia. The rest of her time has been spent in Minnesota learning “Yah, sure, by golly, you betcha, uffda”. DD6, her only trouble is learning to speak the words correctly, saying “Zee” instead of “Zed”, cookie instead of bikkie, breakfast instead of brekky, snack time instead of smoko :goodvibes .
X – is that how I refer to him as?, 36 y.o., Australian cattle rancher. Despite our differences, we still remain friends, even though we have split.
DM and DF – early 60s, my parents. The first cruise we took was with all 6 of us together.
After our very short 4 day cruise, we returned to a blizzard in Minnesota and swore on a snowman that if Disney every decided to go through the Panama canal again, we would be on that ship.
Fast forward to January of 2007: I was going through a rough time, with my decision to leave Australia and return to MN. I was a lurker on the Disboards after our first trip and to my surprise, in early January, I found the whisperings of a specialty cruise for summer of 2008. Due to the fantastic detective work of those disers, I learned that Disney was indeed, going through the canal again. This info gave me a place to retreat from the realities of moving. Bad news though Jolene, my final moving/return trip to the USA was on January 30th, 2007 – 1 day before the repo cruise goes on sale! No problem, I would be able to handle it right?
I decided this was much too important to leave in the hands of a travel agent. We arrived back in MN to -30 degree temps (leaving 110 degrees in Australia) at 9 p.m. The car ride to my parents’ house was 5 hours. Finally fell into bed at 4 a.m. on the 31st. Not to worry, I was sure I would be up in a few hours to get on the phone. I woke up at 11:30, yikes :headache: !!!! Immediately I got on the phone to wait and also jumped online. Only waited on the phone about ½ hour for a quote but it was odd that I got a better deal online. Trip details: May 10, 2008 Westbound Repositioning Cruise, Gty category 6 for my parents and Gty category 11 for the rest of us.
Before I left, my ex had expressed an interest in going on the cruise with us. We both signed an agreement, written in red crayon on a coloring page, that we would behave as adults on the cruise and get along. At this point, I am not too worried, I mean I still have the document of proof in my safe.
Wanna see a pic of us??

Now that is a great suggestion! I think I will have plenty of free time on my hands, so I may look you all up some nights at the bar. I may need a few drinks throughout the cruise to keep my sanity.

So now I have booked the trip for all 6 of us. I sat my parents down and proceeded to have the following conversation –
Me: Well I booked us on that Repo cruise for next May
My dad: What???
Me: You know, we talked about it all this month and you said you wanted to go!
Dad: Well I didn’t think you would book it so soon, I thought we’d have time to think about it.
Me: Dad, the cabins are sold out, there was no time to think about it. Besides, I booked you in a Category 6 with a nice verandah. And you can think about it for the rest of the year, the balance isn’t due until next February.
Dad: How much is that gonna cost me?
Me: Well it was a little more than for the 4 of us in a Category 11.
Dad: How much more?
Me: Not much
Dad: Jolene. . . (with that warning tone)
Me: Umm, well only about 2.5 grand more than us
Dad: What?????
Me: OK, I will pay part of your cabin for the use of your verandah, and as a backup if I have to sleep somewhere else
At this point I felt a little bit guilty. I really really wanted the verandah, but I knew it was out of our price-league. So I did the next best thing and booked my parents on the verandah, I knew they would appreciate it. Since then, they told me they would have been happy with an inside room, but I talked them out of that reasoning. Hence, the explanation for why I was offering to help pay part of the verandah cabin.
My ex had mixed feelings about the trip but promised to come through with ½ of our cabin price. I was getting fed up with everyone, they had all said they wanted to come but then were wishy-washing about my assertiveness in snagging the very last 2 cabins available. Ok maybe not but I saw how crazy it was on the disboards before and later on the morning of booking. I was not gonna sit on my butt and think about it, I’m a woman of action.
The rest of the year was spent finding a job, finding a place to live, going back to school, all that boring stuff that gets in the way of my cruise dreams. I also decided to transfer our reservations to DU, after seeing the OBC offered for the repo. I have not had any trouble with doing so, all my inquiries were answered promptly and we were able to be switched to main dining like I had requested. DUs credit, combined with my booking on line credit, combined with the Disney Visa credit has given us a pretty good deal.
After that initial hesitation, no one in my family has cared one bit about the reservations I am making or decisions I go through with. They are resigned to the fact that I know more than they do when it comes to this stuff and I have the disboards to fall back on if I need more info.
I did ask my ex if he would help pay for my verbal agreement in paying part of the parents’ cabin. He was not receptive to that idea, I wonder why? :confused3 Geez, all he would have to do is sell about 20 extra head of cattle this year and it would be covered! I should have demanded the money from the sale of all those bottle calves I nursed back to health while I lived over there. . . missed opportunity!
Anyway, until next time, I’ll leave you with a photo of my baby joey. . .

When I last left you, I was struggling with getting my family’s commitment to cruising with me. I am happy to report that my threats and tears worked and they all agreed to commit. From what I remember, final payment was due around the same time of the 90 day booking mark (for Castaway Club members). I collected everyone’s shares and put the entire final payment on my Disney Visa, so I could receive the onboard credit.
With the booking date coming up soon, I lurked on the disboards to see what everyone was going to do. Most of my fellow cruisers were going to stay up late and book on-line. I didn’t. I wish I could say I had a hot date going that night and was occupied but that wasn’t the case. I simply fell asleep at my usual time and didn’t think about it until that Monday morning. Now I am glad I didn’t, it sounded like a nightmare!
But that Monday morning, I was able to book everything I wanted except Palo’s brunch. All 6 of us are booked through Disney for the Acapulco Highlights Shopping & Cliff Divers tour on May 19th. I also scheduled an Ionithermie Cellulite Reduction for the first sea day we have. I have this vague hope that it will make me skinny enough so I don’t have to wear my super-shaping swimsuit I recently bought.
A few weeks later, I decided to book my 6 year old daughter and I on a Castaway Cay Stingray experience, and we have the latest appointment at 3:00. She has mixed feelings about this because she saw the news when we were living in Australia that The Crocodile Hunter had died. But on the other hand, she really wants to get up close and personal with them. Rest assured, I am not forcing her to do this, it was her request. I also checked the website and booked a Palo night, but I won’t let on who it is with!
Using my parents’ reservation, I tried to get Palo brunch several times for my Mom and me but there were simply no openings ever! I hope to be able to snag a reservation for brunch the day we board the ship.
For the rest of the ports, I am simply going to walk around town or maybe catch a cab to a beach.
While booking all these exciting ventures, I found that I had been assigned a stateroom!!! Category 11 on deck 7. My parents had not been allocated a room yet but that was ok. I did find it odd that we were given a stateroom and everyone else wasn’t assigned one until a few weeks ago.
My only complaint is that when my parents were assigned their room, they were on deck 5. I looked at the layout of the ship and see it was very possible to put us across the hall from a Category 6 but we weren’t, even though our reservations are linked. Now if I have to flee our room, I have to go down 2 decks and to the opposite end of the ship. Well maybe that long walk will cool me off. . . :headache:
I also booked our flights and motel. We are flying Northwest from Minneapolis to Orlando on May 9th, arriving at 3 p.m. We then booked Cocoa Beach Shuttle to take us to the Best Western Cocoa Beach, where we will stay the night before.
My dad has assured me he would take care of transportation and a motel once we reach San Pedro. I booked our flights back for Memorial Day, so we will have one night to stay in LA. To this date, he has not made any definite plans. This has driven me crazy but I can’t book anything myself because my credit card is maxed out!
Next installment: Dis-activities we signed up for. . . :cheer2:
Another roo for you to enjoy, this one was called Skippy:

Let's see, where was I. . . Oh yes, Disboard activities! I got into the excitement of the meets thread for our trip way back in February of 2007. I offered to teach Australian Bush Dancing sometime onboard. :dance3: Since I am a dance teacher by night, I enjoy helping people boogy on the dancefloor. But what to do, I can't find my music??? Maybe I'll just have to teach those unsuspecting peers one night at a bar. Hey, maybe Ian will allow me to hijack his shots around the ship party and I could teach bush dancing to those who are still able to stand after! :thumbsup2
I'm scheduled to meet up with those at the port area the night before at Fishlips, should be fun! I also joined a fish extender team and signed my daughters up for a secret mickey exchange. Anything more, I wouldn't be able to remember, so maybe I'll just wander the ship and screech "I found you!!!!" to each person who I think might have a remote possibility of being a fellow disser. . .
Today has been a SUPER day! Despite the fact that we got 3 inches of snow last weekend, this week is looking good (although the forecast says more snow on Saturday again)!!! Why, you might ask? I just got an unofficial acceptance to grad school  . I have been sweating about this for about a month, now I can learn how to be a "real" teacher. Apparantly my self-made credentials aren't enough. . .
Also, I fell off my chair when I called my dad screaming the news. . . After he calmed me down and congratulated me on a great b.s. application and goals statement, he started talking cruise business. I was always happy to talk about that but today he dropped a bomb shell. You will never guess in a million years what he said!!!! And I quote: "Maybe while onboard, we should think about booking a future cruise!" Now this is from my dad, the tightwad, who will not allow us to order soft-drinks at a restaurant because it saves him $1.50. We had never even been out to eat at a restaurant until I was like 15 (and my 2 older sisters were gone by then). And once we finally got to go to McDonalds like other kids, we had to order off the $1.00 menu. I suppose with 5 daughters, he really was hurting to pay for all those weddings. That is why he agonized over spending so much on this cruise. Hey, but I'll take it! He didn't even flinch when I mentioned the deposit. Of course, I'll pay the deposit on me and the girls but I could not believe this was my dad talking like that!
So what's left to do before next Friday??? We'll have to wait and see. . .
No pics today, maybe this weekend.
See you in a few
Congratulations for the unofficial acceptance to grad school

I received this letter in the mail the other day and had to share it with you:
Dear Jolene,
Thank you for your recent interest in traveling with us again on our Cruise Line. Unfortunately, due to incriminating evidence, we are unable to allow you to sail with us ever again. You were caught by our cast members on the January, 2006 cruise with the following issues:
1) Several complaints were lodged that you hid in the lifeboats and proceeded to jump out and scream at passerbys.
2) At 3:08 p.m. that same day, you invited people into your lifeboat if they brought their own pillows.
3) Later that same day, you ran a marathon around each deck of the ship and had people stationed strategically in spots to hand out tiny cups of water.
4) That evening, you tried to return your kids to the gift shop by repeatedly stating “They don’t work the way they are supposed to!”
5) After the formal night dinner, you spotted a couple holding hands and shouted “Red Rover, Red Rover!” and proceeded to run through them.
6) At the photo shop, you brought several roles of blank film to be developed and then proceeded to cry bitterly complaining “They ruined 15 days of sweat and blood to get those pictures!”
7) At Serenity Bay on Castaway Cay, you proceeded to ask every woman there “Are you my mother?”
8) You returned to the gift shop and took a price tag off an item, put it on yourself and told people you were $100.
9) One day, during a brunch session at Palo, you spent time outside using the windows as a mirror and proceeded to pick your nose and adjust your bathing suit.
10) A large group of Dissers complained that you put condoms in their fish extenders with a note saying “I’ll be back later to test these out with you”.
And finally. . .
You introduced yourself to 5 different people and then had their names paged with the instructions that they are late for their intimate rasuel appointment with you at the Spa.
We will not be issuing you a refund for your payment.
Have a Magical Day!

Well we are nearing the end of the pre-trip and the countdown to live is here!
This weekend was spent buying all those last minute things that I am convinced I cannot live without but will be a toss-up if I actually use them onboard.
This week will be doing all those girly things, cut/tan/wax, etc. . . Have to look good for Mickey!
Guess I better cancel my Eharmony subscription, sorry guys I've got a date with "The Mouse". :rotfl:
And to my fellow passengers: Feel free to use this trip report to add comments of your own throughout the trip.
By the way, I know of at least 2 other trip reports from this cruise. Not sure if they are going live too but thought I would mention them if you want to search.

OK guys, the fun starts now!
I picked up my ex at the airport on Tuesday night, happily we do not have battle scars so that bodes well for our trip :lmao:
Last night we drove down to MSP (about 5 hours) after I got done with work. We were supposed to leave by 5 but got away just before 6. Not too bad!
I didn't get time to pack so I just threw a bunch of clothes up in the air and caught them in my suitcase. I figured I remembered the important things like kids, passports, money, etc. . . We stayed with my aunt and uncle last night.
We got caught in rush hour traffic in the cities on the way to the airport this morning at 7 a.m. Now, in the tiny town where I come from, rush hour traffic consists of the neighbor driving his tractor down the road and being stuck behind him. So it wasn't fun but we made it to the airport in one piece.
I did the online checkin for us yesterday. So we decided to use the curb-side check-in. We tipped the guy about $1.50 for each of our 7 bags. We had 9 pieces of carry ons between us!
The flight was about 3 hours long, really got antsy on the plane. We arrived to 90 degree weather in Orlando about 2:30 p.m. I booked us on Cocoa Beach Shuttle and received 10% off for being a disboard member.
The guy was quick, went about 85 in a 70 zone but he didn't cut anyone off so I didn't complain. We tipped him too for the ride to the Best Western in Cocoa Beach because he was very helpful with suggestions on where to go and what to do.
The Best Western is a pretty nice motel, several miles from the port on the main street. The beach is right in our backyard and we have a 2 room suite for the 6 of us.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/BWFlorida.jpg
I dumped everyone in the room and then decided to go to the Dis meeting at Fishlips. I paid about $10 for a taxi ride over there and our Dis meet had several tables reserved.
It was fun seeing the people from the boards who had pictures posted. My lanyards and bracelets weren't sent to the meet but I will be able to pick them up at the port tomorrow morning :thumbsup2
I met 2 very wonderful couples at the meet. The first couple have a boy and a girl who are 6 & 4, close in age to my 2. We hope to meet up some day and let the kids play together. They ended up giving me a ride back to my motel so I am glad I brought extra surprises with to put in their fish extender. Shhhh, don't tell them. . .
Everyone seemed really friendly and we are all excited about tomorrow! I HAD to get seafood since the restaurant is right off the water and decided on my all-time favorite, Calamari. But when they brought it out, it made me pause. Every single time I have ordered calamari, it comes out as breaded rings, so I don't have to think about the fact that I am eating squid. Well perhaps the restaurant does it the "real" way for when I got my plate, about 1/2 of it was rings and the other 1/2 looked like baby squids that were battered and fried on my plate. I ate all the rings but didn't touch the babies, now I question if I will be able to eat it ever again :scared1:
Well, that's all for today. This time tomorrow we will be sailing away

Our shuttle arrived at 10:00 instead of 10:30 like they had told us. We were ready to go and arrived at the port at 10:10. There didn’t seem to be too many people there yet but they were just opening the gates for us to go inside. Last time we had been dropped off right up at the curb. This time, the gates were shut and you had to walk through them to get up to the terminal. We tipped a porter $15 for 8 bags and proceeded through security. My roll of quarters were opened from their bag, as I guess it screws with their screening system or something.
We checked in and got boarding pass 5. I had done online check-in and we received our KTTW cards and lanyards for returning cruisers. I found our bracelets, lanyards and mini-navigators. Lots of lime green running around the terminal. I also got a pager for the kids club.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/Terminal.jpg
They started boarding shortly before 12, I think??? Our passes were called around 12:15. By this time, the terminal was a mad-house, standing room only. We went up the gangplank and didn’t get our picture taken. This is what I saw:
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/Ice.jpg
My family went to Parrot’s Cay and I went to try to get Palo’s brunch reservations. The line was way past the hallway so I waited about 1 minute and then left. Another Diser showed up right after and I asked her later how long she waited, she said about an hour!!!
So we had a leisurely lunch and about 45 minutes later, I went out to take my daughter to the bathroom and pick up a navigator. The line to get to Parrot’s Cay was back to the beginning of the Promenade Lounge by then! So glad we got there early. I also looked and saw the Palo’s line was longer, up to guest services by this time.
The time was about 1:15 so we went up to the pool. It was pretty empty. I talked to a cast member and she mentioned there were about 400-500 kids on this sailing. She also had to laugh when she saw I was from the Disboards, she said she knew all about us.
Around 2 or so, we went to our staterooms. Category 11 on deck 7. It was pretty small for 4 people but I don’t think we will be in there much. We couldn’t unpack all our suitcases so they are alongside the beds and stuff.
My ex took the kids and I went down to guest services to put some credit on it and also check out Palo’s again! This time, there was no line but I knew everything was gone. The gentleman was very friendly and told me he would put me on the “priority” wait-list. Which I think is a load of Bull but he did write that word on the list.
I went to the Dismeet at 3 at the promenade lounge and received the rest of the bracelets (I am on that team) to put in staterooms. My girls and I will enjoy that. I got a DOD called Anchors Away.
My older daughter and I went to the sail away party and I got a strawberry daiquiri. It was pretty good.
Our dining rotation was PLA at 5:30. So this night we went to Parrot’s Cay. We had a table for 6 and it was very noisy. I saw a ton of sleeping/sleepy kids, including my own. Our servers are Pieter from South Africa (assistant) and Adrian from the Philipines. Head guy was Allessendro from Italy and he did stop by our table. The menu was Welcome Aboard. I ordered the Calamari (yes, I broke down and ate it again) which was sort of hard, the Watermelon and yogurt soup (which was served cold and had a different taste to it but I liked it) and the main course was a seasoned steak with Chedder baked potato (I really liked it). The first night is always hectic/long so I wasn’t disappointed by how long it took to get drinks ordered and meals served. Pieter cut my steak because at this time I was holding a sleeping child. I asked him if he was going to feed me too but he said he didn’t want to get in trouble. I did not order dessert.
I left the table around 7:00 for some reason, I can’t remember what. I left my sleeping 3 year old with my ex and my 6 year old and I delivered bracelets. That was a lot of fun walking around but most fish extenders weren’t up yet.
At 8:30, my 3 year old was awake then so we went to the Welcome Aboard show. Since I am a dance teacher, I really noticed the choreography and I thought it was terrific. We got a sneak peak at Sunday night’s entertainment and it is going to be hypnotist Ricky Kalmon. He looks really good so far and funny. But we had to leave around 9 because my 3 year old had a meltdown.
We all crashed early this night after I got the room steward (can’t remember his name yet) to separate the queen bed into 2 single beds.
Random thoughts: I saw people onboard lugging around cases of water they had gotten through. Some weren’t even in a cooler or carry-ons. Just a box of water they were carrying and it wasn’t the ship’s water.

Whew, what an exciting day! Was so hoping today would be a relaxing day on the beach but it wasn’t to be, I guess.
The morning started at 7:15 a.m. with a rude wake-up call. Hello? Oh, it’s you dad, well what do you want? Turns out he was wondering if we wanted to eat breakfast. Umm, no we are still in bed. We’ll call you when we are ready to disembark for CASTAWAY CAY!
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/ShipCC.jpg
It took a while to get everyone ready and all the bags ready. We then went down to Lumieres for breakfast and that took a while. I had the Cogsworth express (Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, ham) and 6 year old had the mickey waffles and nothing else. My 3 year old shared my plate.
I forgot to mention that I bought a sand castle gift from The Perfect Gift. They had a medium sized sand pail filled with smaller sand toys and some candy, snacks and 3 bottles of water.
Oh yeah, we also got the Castaway gift in our stateroom. A tote bag, 2 drink holders and a mesh bag. Not too bad and we used the tote today at Castaway.
We got off the ship around 9:00 a.m. Wandered about ½ way down the beach and parked our stuff. It just didn’t seem as busy this time, probably because there aren’t as many kids. The day was nice, high 80s-low 90s. The kids played on the beach a long time. I had been reading another thread and so I watched the hammocks that were in the area. The one closest to us had a guy in it for at least an hour after we got there. After that, there was just a shirt on it for most of the time after that until we left at 12:30 p.m. After we had eaten, we wandered around and I would say the majority of the hammocks had stuff on it, oftentimes a towel. Now I am NOT a hammock police. None of us really cared about them. I just was more aware of them after reading that thread. And I certainly didn’t see the circumstances of every hammock so I don’t know what was going on with most of them.
We had lunch at Cookies around 12:30. It was great! Burgers, hot dogs, roast chicken, BBQ ribs, salads and potato chips. We all came away satisfied.
After we ate, the 6 of us (me, girls, ex and my parents) headed back to the ship. I cleaned up DD 3 and my mom watched her for the rest of the afternoon. I delivered a few more odds and ends around the place and we headed back to the island where DD6 and I had a stingray encounter at 3 p.m. We were early so waited on the beach. Much to my surprise, my dad shows up in a golf cart with a cast member! I don’t know how he did it but he talked some guy into giving him a ride out to the Stingrays right off the ship and then had him coming back at 4 p.m. for us!!!
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/FDCC.jpg
The Stingrays were pretty good. The woman who gave the talk beforehand was very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. My dad and ex got to sit in with us and listen to the talk, even though they didn’t book the excursion. Then they came right down to the water and took pictures. DD6 was too scared to let them suck the food out of her hands and really couldn’t snorkel very well but she still enjoyed seeing the stingrays up close and petting them. I wonder if because we were the last group of the day that the stingrays were not hungry anymore. Our cast member had a hard time coaxing stingrays up to us. All in all, it was ok. But I don’t think I would do them again.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/StingraysCC.jpg
We boarded the ship and had less than an hour to get ready for our 5:30 dinner. Tonight was Lumiere’s and the menu was French. I had some type of roast and it was done pretty well. I asked that I get a baked potato instead of the puree peas and baby carrots. Again, no dessert.
We had plenty of time between our meal and the show to wander around. We did take the kids to see the hypnotist Ricky and he was fun. He asked for volunteers in the audience but his version was whoever ran up to the stage first got to be in. 9 people did and then a reluctant 10th person went up. He also asked people to play along for the first part to see if anyone in the audience could be hypnotized from their seats. I have been hypnotized before and found myself responding to his soothing voice. But my 3 year old kept breaking my concentration so I didn’t go onstage when he asked other people to come up. He had them speak weird languages, pretend to be Hannah Montana and gave them napkins that they thought were $100 bills. I really enjoyed it.
Nothing else exciting to report. I had to take a time out around 9:00 p.m. and hung out at the Promenade Lounge for about an hour. Drink of the day was High tide and I had one on the beach while waiting for the Stingrays. It was very strong.
Random thoughts: There are photographers everywhere! I started checking the restrooms because I am sure it is only a matter of time before Disney thinks of this new money making opportunity.

This morning we woke up at 8:00 a.m. We still were pretty tired from the beautiful day at Castaway Cay. The ex took the kids up to Topsiders for breakfast and I headed to the Vista Spa for my 9:15 appointment.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/SeaDayLobbygirls.jpg
I chose to do the Ionithermie Cellulite Reduction. I registered at the front desk and answered all the routine questions. My spa lady was named Isabel. We went back to a private room and I had to get undressed into a pair of disposable panties. They were sooooo trendy! We talked about my lifestyle and what I wanted to accomplish today. Then she measured my thighs and stomach around and rubbed 3 different types of treatments on the areas. She made up some kind of green mud paste and put it on the bed with the little shock pads. She had me lay down on the bed, made another paste in a towel and laid that on top of me.
She put 2 shock pads on my stomach and 1 on each thigh. Then she turned on the torture instrument. At first, I really hated the sensation. It felt like I had fallen on an electric fence. The sequence was 3 seconds on and 3 off. I had that on for about 10 minutes while she talked about toxins and what this treatment would do to my skin. Then she upped the shock factor, more intense. It definitely felt strange but it didn’t hurt as much as in the beginning. It still felt like a shock on an electric fence but I was used to it by then. But the intensity of the shock was so high at this point that my legs were lifting off the bed with each wave. I could only stare in amazement at the involuntary reaction. My stomach didn’t feel as intense and she said that was normal.
I suppose it lasted another 15 minutes or so and then was finished. She rubbed the after-lotion all over and then measured me again. Then I got dressed and she came back and discussed the results. Most people lose about 1-8 inches total on their problem spots. I lost 6. She wanted me to purchase the treatment packs that ranged from 200-400 dollars. I said no thank you and that was it.
On my way out, I toured the fitness facilities. I was impressed by the equipment and there weren’t too many people there. Tip: they have ipods to use if you want to listen to music.
Afterwards, when I told everyone what I had done, my ex made me a generous offer. He said he would have used his cattle prod (shocker) on me for ½ the price. How sweet. . .
We went to Topsiders for lunch and my daughter had her first of 500 servings of ice cream.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/SeaDayIC.jpg
Next up to the Panama Canal presentation by Ken Pucket. It was in the Walt Disney Theatre and was packed!!! Ken was a pilot and port captain on the Canal so he had a lot of information to share. It was interesting but I had to leave about 10 minutes early.
I went to the Margarita/tequila testing at 2:00 p.m. in Diversons. It was filled also. The lady who did it was very informative. We tried a silver and a gold kind of tequila (sorry I don’t remember the name because I am not a tequila drinker). We also had 2 margaritas to drink and I thought they were very good. Then of course, they tried to get us to buy the tequila by offering us 10% off. I left then.
I spent some time with the kids in the pool before we got ready for formal night. Both girls wore their Easter outfits. I did too. We didn’t get any photos done. My sister is a professional photographer so we do a lot of portraits at home. So all the photo opportunities are lost on me. Yes it would be nice to get a photo with Mickey but just for myself, it’s not a dealbreaker for my trip.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/SeaDayformal.jpg
Tonight was Animator’s Palate and it was Golden Mickey’s menu.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/FormalNiteAP.jpg
They did not do the show at dinner, that is for next time. I just ordered the broccoli and blue cheese soup, excellent! Skipped the appetizers and had a roast chicken for the main menu. Again, I had to leave the table early with the girls, do you see a pattern evolving here??? This time, I had ordered dessert – a chocolate, chocolate mickey or something like that – and it was brought back to the room so I could eat it.
We went to the Golden Mickeys and DD 3 fell asleep before it ended. I have to admit, I am very distracted at the shows. There are 2 sign language interpreters down in the front and they are so animated and involved that I like to watch them sign. They make sign language look so beautiful and signed in time to the music. I think they are fantastic at their job. The Golden Mickeys was excellent as usual. I still watched the choreography and would like to meet whoever does it for Disney.
After that, we got the kids to bed and then I went to Ricky Kalmon’s Adult Hypnotist show in Rockin’ Bar D. I got there ½ hour early, ordered a DOD called Golden Start (good!) and by the time the show started, it was packed. I have never seen so many cast members in white uniforms before. They were constantly walking around and scanning the crowd, looking for trouble I think? Ricky’s adult show was very good and had “adult” themes to it like naked people in the audience and presidential candidates and strumming the air guitars for a contest. I enjoyed it a lot, more so than the other night.
Tomorrow is another Sea day with Mickey Dreams Show and a galley tour scheduled.
Random Thought: So far, there has been plenty of sun loungers around the Mickey pool to use. No hogs on this trip, although it is early in the cruise still. :rotfl2:

5/13/08 – Sea Day
This morning, we got up around 8:00 a.m. Went up to Topsiders for breakfast. Delivered a few secret mickey gifts. The girls spent most of the morning in the Mickey Pool. Again, there were plenty of loungers available in the area. The pool didn’t seem too crowded either. The kids had a great time.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/SeaDayKPool.jpg
We did the Goofy’s gallery for lunch because the kids were reluctant to leave the pool for very long. Yesterday, after we packed up, I realized I had forgotten the kids’ spray on sunblock. Went back to look for it and it was gone. Checked lost and found 3 times after that and it hadn’t shown up. So this morning, I bought a replacement for $13.50!!!! Talk about a mark-up. But I did receive a free lithogram 5x7 size. Just with the ship in the background and some characters peeking up front.
After lunch, we were tired so the ex went with my dad to a wine tasting seminar and the girls and I headed back to our room. DD 3 and I took a nap while DD 6 watched some cartoons.
We had a 2:45 p.m. tour of the galley so I dropped the kids off at the club. DD 3 was not happy at all about this and DD 6 didn’t really want to go either but she said she would for a little while. It looks like my kids are among those who are not wild about the clubs. I think it is just intimidating with all those kids running around. We’re used to peace and quiet at home so it is a big adjustment.
The galley tour was very interesting. I hope to go on it again sometime this cruise to pick up more info. The gentleman who hosted the tour said that they would be picking up fresh berries tomorrow in Aruba that had been flown in from the States. He also said there was another load scheduled to be picked up at another port – mostly perishables also being flown in.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/GalleyTour-1.jpg
Please note the space between myself and X - in defense of what is about to come.
After the tour we picked up the kids and went back to the room again. Changed into other clothes and then went to the Castaway Club reception. It was up on the goofy pool area on deck 9. Free drinks were being served and a buffet was set up. Tons of people there but no rowdiness. I tried all 3 of the drinks offered, 2 with alcohol and 1 without. The one without alcohol was the best.
Tonight our rotation was Parrot Cay and the menu was Island Dinner.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/ParrotCay.jpg
I had a Caesar Salad, no appetizer and the rib-eye. The rib-eye was the best meal I have eaten so far on the cruise. I didn’t eat dessert because my kids finished their 4th serving of ice cream for the day and we had to leave. I really am not much of a dessert person anyway so it doesn’t bother me to leave. I do try to thank the servers on the way out if I can.
Now comes the exciting part!!!!!! I saw in the navigator that Who wants to be a Mousekateer was playing at Studio Seas. The girls and I left a note for the ex on the door and went down there to see it. All 3 of us got a number and sat down at a table. The ex came by just before it started. There were 3 contestants who played and none of them made it through all 5 questions. The questions were very diverse ranging from character’s names in movies, to theme park questions to songs and such. One was who gave the introduction in the movie “Hercules”. I didn’t know the answer but it was Charlton Heston.
At this point in time, DD 6 is complaining that she is really thirsty. So off the ex goes to search out some water. Lo and behold, our number is the next one called to sit in the hot spot!!! DD6 and I go up but I didn’t know what to do with DD 3. I couldn’t bring her up too because they said only 1 adult and 1 kid. So I quickly asked the lady next to me to hold her. She was happy to do it and I was just glad it didn’t turn into a meltdown.
Woah, was I scared to be up there in those lights! The first question really stumped me. What is the name of the flying horse in Hercules?? What the heck??? It had a name??? The answers were Sea Biscuit, Man of War, Secretariat and Pegasus. I thought Secretariat because I didn’t think they would name it something dumb like Pegasus. But before I could say anything DD 6 said Pegasus and got it right! I’m drawing a blank on what the next 2 questions were but we got them right. Oh yeah, one was what land is the ride Jungle Cruise in? The answer was Adventureland, which we answered correctly. The 4th question was what was the attraction that replaced something in Epcot in 1999. Now I have not been to Epcot for 20 years so I had no idea. We chose our lifeline of ask the audience and they all clapped on 1 answer so I went with that. Got it right! The 5th question was another Epcot one. How many countries are represented in Epcot? The answers were 5, 7, 11, 15. Again I had no idea. So we went with 50/50. They took away 7 and 15. I was going to guess 7. My next guess was 5 but I heard furtive whispers for 11 in the audience. And Darrin (assistant cruise director) said think of ALL those countries so I figured that was a pretty broad hint and we chose 11.
We were right and won!!!!! Woohoo!!!! I was so excited! I never get picked for things like that but we did it! So we got 2 Mousekateer pins, 2 caps that said Winner and 2 insulated mugs with Disney Cruise line on it.
So I’m jumping up and down and DD 6 just sits stone faced. Oh well, I was excited enough for both of us. People were really cheering us on too and I really appreciated that. We get back to our seats and pick up DD 3. I was so grateful to the lady who watched her that I gave her one of our pins. I am not a pin collector so it didn’t hurt me. She was very excited to take it so it made me feel really good. I sure did appreciate her help. Just at that moment, the ex comes back. Darn, he missed all the fun!!!!
So we ran down to the Walt Disney Theater for our show on a great buzz! Tonight’s show was When Mickey Dreams. It had a lot of dancing and acrobatics in it. If you go to a circus, you’ll see similar acts. They had the hoops in the air for women to flip around on, those long scarves dangling from the ceiling and 2 vertical poles. We saw some ballet and some tumbling too. I thought it was better than the Golden Mickeys but again, that is my humble opinion and shouldn’t be taken as the law. DD 3 fell asleep right before the show started.
I was aghast when I arrived at the theater and found my parents SAVING OUR SEATS!!! I was very embarrassed and hope no one confronted them about it. I took out my highlighter and colored in the reminder on the navigator about seat saving. Dad had the typical answer “It’s my vacation” thing going. I set him straight after that one and told him “If you ever do that again. . .” Oh great, now I sound like my parents!!!
Tomorrow is Aruba – we don’t have any excursions booked. Dinner’s theme is Taste of the Carribbean and the dress code is tropical. Our show tomorrow is Kevin Johnson – Comedy and Ventriloquism.
I’d like to catch John Charles some night because I have heard he is really good and puts on a good show. People liked him so much he is extending his stay this week so maybe I will get to see him sometime.
The boat is starting to rock and roll a bit, good thing I have my patch on. I haven’t suffered any of the side effects on this and feel pretty good. Last time I got pretty sea-sick on our 4 day cruise.
Random thought: Did you know that an average of 3,500 Chocolate Chip Cookies are made each day on board?

2) Did you get a Ducky litho in the cabin when you checked in, if so, what does it look like?
AND
3) Did they say when you would be going thru the canal on Friday, We all want to watch you on the panama canal cam? popcorn::
Enjoy your special time with your family.

Woohoo! A day at Aruba! This morning was another late start for us. We got up around 8:30 a.m. I cannot believe how late we sleep, must be on vacation! My parents called and asked what our plans were for the day. We had nothing booked so we said we would meet them on shore after we got done with breakfast. Went to Parrot Cay for breakfast for a buffet. Yesterday morning’s scrambled eggs were really runny up on Topsiders but this morning’s eggs were firmer. The kids do really well with breakfast but lunch and dinner are a hit and miss.
We finally disembarked after renting a stroller from guest services. For those who don’t know it, you can borrow a stroller (3 wheeled jogging type) with a $200 deposit. When you return it, they credit your account again for $200. It just so happens we met up with my parents right on the dock inside the gated area. Aruba has a tourist building inside the gates with a few small stores and an information center. Outside, you have to pass through the gates. There were people inside the building making balloon animals, which DD 6 lost hers right away so we had to backtrack because she cried hard. Outside, my dad had bargained with a tour guide couple to give us a 2 ½ hour tour for $15 each. Apparently, some of the tour guides have an agreement where they can park inside the gates and solicit business from the cruisers. This particular tourism business had a mini van and 1 driver and another guide who rode along and told us about the stops.
The 6 of us piled in and were taken on a tour of the island. I think they said Aruba was 19 miles long so it wasn’t very big. The weather was hot and dry in the high 80s. We traveled to some rock formation where we climbed up and were able to view 40% of the island.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/Aruba1.jpg
Next we traveled around the country area and they told us about their government, schools, medical practices and the price of living. Then we went to the opposite side of the island which was the desert area. All of Aruba is rocky with scrubby brush and grass growing. There are hardly any domesticated animals raised for food, they rely on a lot of fish and seafood. Their water supply is pumped from the ocean and purified for them. I loved the Aruban version of a fence:
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/Aruba2.jpg
We did not see any green lawns except in the very rich part of town and the golf course.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/Aruba4.jpg
The desert was really pretty and the ocean drive was scenic. We stopped at several places to take pictures and could stay as long as we wanted, we weren’t on a time schedule like other tours.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/Aruba3.jpg
After the desert, we went to the “tropical area” and toured a gated community of rich people. We also drove by a new community being built which was only being sold to Americans. We got to see Sylvester Stallone’s former house.
Our final trip was along the oceanfront with their beautiful beaches and fancy hotels, apartments and condos. The beaches were gorgeous, white sand and all.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/Aruba5.jpg
They told us there are no solicitors on the beaches (only people who will rent you chairs) and that the crime rate is less than 1%. Then we found out that everything is legal there like Marijuana, Prostitutes, domestic violence, etc. . .
I have to say I really enjoyed our tour and the guides were friendly. I would do it again if I got a chance and I liked the flexibility to be offered choices on what destinations to see.
After they brought us back, we walked around town for a while checking out the markets. I am not into Diamonds or jewelry so we didn’t go in any of those stores but they were plentiful. X, DD 6 and I walked several blocks to a bank to exchange some money. I wanted some for a souvenir. I went inside and there was a police officer standing there. He confronted me and told me to remove my cap. Whoops! I didn’t see the sign that said no hats or sunglasses. I felt really naughty after that.
My daughter bought a flute, and hasn’t stopped playing it. I think it may have to “accidentally” get lost sometime soon. I bought a few secret mickey gifts for the kids that we have to give to.
We got back to the ship around 1:30, had a quick lunch and then off to the pool. It was pretty quiet around the ship, everyone was gone.
Tonight was tropical night and Lumiere’s menu was A Taste of the Caribbean. My meal consisted of a Chutney Flat bread, a soup with seafood bits in it and a spiced roast chicken. They were pretty good. DD 3 fell asleep before dinner so we brought the stroller in and I got to have dessert which was some type of nut cake. It was pretty good also. The servers did a limbo show and Adrian grabbed DD 6. She pretended she didn't like it but I know she did. . .
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/TropicalNight.jpg
Afterwards, the girls went with my parents to their room and X and I went to the show. Tonight was the comedian/ventriloquist Kevin Johnson. His show was funny, I am really enjoying the entertainment we’ve had so far. Kevin had a child volunteer first and spoke for the kid in a funny voice. Next he drew on some kind of board that came to life with a voice. His 3rd part was various puppets. He had an old man puppet that was hilarious. He alluded to the adult show later this week with this puppet and it sounds like a Not-to-miss event. I’ll have to go to that. We didn’t see many kids in the theater tonight, probably because most younger kids wouldn’t be interested. I think dd 6 would have enjoyed the puppets but most of the jokes would have been lost to her.
I ordered the DOD which was Go West. It was a pretty aqua color but was very strong. I had to wait for the ice to melt some before I could drink it all.
Now on to my surprise. I am swearing all these readers to secrecy and I hope there aren’t any of my cruise-mates reading this. I’ve discovered that later on next week, they are definitely having a cruisers’ talent show. I’ve rounded up some of the Dis-kids to perform a humorous dance skit. We’ve gotten permission to have a few practices somewhere on the ship and I think it is going to be really entertaining. I better not tell you what it is, don’t want to spoil the surprise but I am sure people will enjoy it. I’ve been working on the music today and have to fine-tune it some more.
Up next: Day at Sea – cruise casual – Show night in Animator’s Palate – Scott Record, impressionist for our show.
Random thought: I ran into our stateroom host right before I left to go ashore. I stopped and asked him if he needed anything and that I would be happy to pick something up for him in town. He was very grateful and thanked me and said he was going ashore at 1:00 p.m. I was assuming that most of the crew don’t often get to go ashore for necessaries. When we came back tonight, he had a whole bunch of chocolates and extras on our bed. I think he was really glad for the offer I made but I just wanted to help him out. I appreciate the service he has given us so far.

Am I getting back with my ex? Umm, no. . .
Australian Cattle Rancher? He doesn't look like any of them, more like the model for the Marlboro man, hahahahaha, just kidding.
I apologize, I am an idiot. I don't think what I got was a lithogram after all. It's one of those things where you tilt it one way and then another and the picture changes (halogram???). I don't know, sorry didn't mean to mislead everyone.
Ducky Williams is scheduled to appear later on along with Joey Fatone and a cast member talent show and a movie night (maybe Prince Caspian?). And some other people I don't remember.
We haven't gotten anything from Ducky, yet. We did get something that looks like a placemat and has the route for our trip on it. I think last time they did the canal, a gift was given on the day of the crossing so maybe then?
I'm not sure what time we are scheduled to cross but tomorrow there are 3 talks about the canal that I will try to go to and then update you all.
I've found that the acts that do the family show and then the adult show later are even funnier for the adults version. But I hate that they start so late at night, though I understand why (to make sure the late seating is finished in time)
Thanks again for all the comments, I love reading them!

Sorry guys, I could not update yesterday, had issues all around the ship. Going through the canal at the moment!
This morning we woke up at 7 a.m., mostly because of the time change. We had to turn our clocks back 1 hour when we retired for the night. I headed up to the fitness center to walk on the treadmill and X took the girls up to breakfast. At this time in the morning, the fitness center was busy. I had to wait about 15 minutes to get a treadmill. It was an interesting experience with trying to walk a straight line while the ship is rolling slightly side to side. It wasn’t a big roll, but just enough to throw you off balance sometimes.
Had a quick meal at Topsiders and then went back to the stateroom. Eventually the girls turned up again and DD 3 went up to the pool area with me for a swim. I had to come back down to our stateroom to chase out DD 6 and X as it was almost lunchtime and I knew the host wanted to clean our room.
The afternoon was pretty quiet. I hung around the mickey pool a lot but I think they closed it at some point due to a “floatie”. It didn’t get very crowded during the day.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/SeaDay.jpg
I did make it to the 3:00 p.m. panama canal lecture with Ken Puckett again. He basically covered most of the same information from the other day. So I left at 3:45 p.m. to go play some bingo.
I don’t know about that game. There was a $10,000 cash chance on the last game so Rockin’ Bar D was packed. The way it works is you can buy a set of 3 cards for each game, 6 cards for each game or buy the machines with 24 or 48 chances on each game. The machines require you do to nothing at all, just watch the screen. So I really wondered what is the point? But my dad bought a 48 card machine and we sat down to play. Some people really get into the game and they gave away raffles throughout the session. We didn’t win any of the games, didn’t even come close. I did notice that every person who won had a machine so I guess your odds are much better to go that way. No one was even close in the last game with 46 (?) balls to get all 25 squares covered. They just continued to pull balls until someone filled their card and the prize for that game was just over $1,000.
We received 2 more halograms, this one is of the Disney ship and Arial is swimming under it. We got these when we came back to the room tonight.
Tonight was Animator’s Palate and it was show night.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/APshownight3.jpg
X FINALLY got into the Mickey spirit with a little help from Pieter:
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/APshownight2.jpg
I had a salad, butternut squash soup and the fillet mignon. Dessert was chocolate/peanut butter pie. Pretty good all around. The show was ok, Sorcerer Mickey came around and the waiters had black and white vests but changed them to colorful vests.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/APshownight4.jpg
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/APshownight.jpg
Scott Record was our impressionist show tonight. My dad, X and DD 6 and I went to it. DD 6 fell asleep and wasn’t impressed at all. He was pretty good, did a lot of singing and some tap dancing and whatnot. He did Richard Simmons, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and sang a few numbers from the musical Chicago. I have to say I liked the other guys (ventriloquist and hypnotist) better but still, he was fun to listen to. Didn’t catch his adult show last night, I was pretty tired.
Tonight I am going to head over to the Ventriloquist late show and then maybe see Step Up 2 at the movie theater.
Here is tomorrow’s schedule which is subject to change at any time. All times are CST (Minnesota time!!!!)
5:00 a.m. – Entering Breakwater
6:00 a.m. – Approaching Gatun Locks
7:30-8:30 a.m. – Departing locks
1:00 p.m. – Approaching Pedro Miguel Locks
2:30 p.m. – Approaching Miraflores Locks
4:00 p.m. – Depart Miraflores Locks
4:30 p.m. – Passing under bridge of the Americas
5:00 p.m. – Disney Magic departing for Acapulco
Brent said tonight at our 8:30 show that the pilot was scheduled to come aboard around 6:30 so I am not sure how that will affect the times posted. We are anchoring outside in the bay tonight at 11:00 p.m. to refuel.
Tomorrow night our dinner is set to 6:00 instead of 5:30 p.m. Tomorrow’s show is the premiere of Narnia: Prince Caspian at 8:15 p.m. Tomorrow is also an all day deck party and of course, the BBQ.
Random Thoughts: My parents had some nails in the carpeting come up and stick up so they called maintenance to fix it. When they arrived at their stateroom tonight, a poofy Minnie pillow was on their bed with an apology note. We have appropriated that to our stateroom. The maintenance guy came and cut away the carpet and glued a new piece into the spot. It matched the design perfectly but looked new, while the other carpet is looking older.
Catch ya tomorrow after we are through the canal!!!
Went to the ventriloquist last night and caught the movie Step Up 2. Both were good!

OK guys I will try to update this with your questions.
1) I will bring back all the navigators to be scanned. Some of you may know that the nagivators have changed and all the kids programs are included on the main navigator like a tv guide.
2) I am wearing a prescribed sea sickness patch and it seems to really help on those rough days, you wear it 3 days.
3) At this moment (1:49 p.m. CST) we are at the continental divide.
4) Brent (AUS) is the cruise director, Darrin (?) is the assistant cruise director. Anyone else in particular you are looking for? Captain Thord is piloting the boat.
It was a zoo this morning. We got our pilot at 6:30 this morning so our schedule is about 1 1/2 hours later than what was planned.
See ya later! I'll wave at the cam!

This has been posted on some of the other boards, but I'll mention it here just in case.
The webcam didn't actually crash today. Directly in front of the Magic was a US Navy submarine that showed up unexpectedly at the Canal this morning. For security reasons, whenever a military vessel approaches one of the webcams, they shut the webcam down. The Miraflores webcam actually stayed up a bit longer than the others because you could see the submarine on that cam for awhile. As soon as the sub had passed, they would turn the webcams back on.
On another thread they mentioned that there was supposed to be a helicopter taking pictures of the Magic as it made its transit today, but the helicopter was grounded because of the sub also.

Well, it’s here! The day we all waited for. This morning, I received a wake-up call from Mickey at 5:15. Originally, they had planned on picking up the pilot around 5:30-6. I asked X if he wanted to get up and go on top and he just rolled over. So I went up myself. There were some people but not many up on top. I had breakfast buffet at Topsiders and it was pretty quiet.
We were anchored inside the harbor, Limon Bay.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/PCdayharbor.jpg
Around 6:45 a.m., we got our pilot. It took about an hour to reach the first set of locks. At this time, I made my way forward on deck 10 and it was a madhouse. Later I was told that some people had even slept up there last night. There were tons of white coats wandering around. People would not budge from their spots up front for anything, not even for others to get pictures. That’s ok though, if you sleep up on deck, you should get some kind of bragging rights!
We were the second to go through the locks and traveled through the Left side after the Naval sub. Top security with this sub, the cameras were down and no aerial photos of the ship due to the sub.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/PCDaysub.jpg
The Gatun Locks were the most popular with the cruisers. I was able to sweet talk a cast member standing up high to take some pictures for me, as there was no way I would be able to get up front.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/PCDayGatunLocks.jpg
Then I left and headed down to deck 4. I liked that deck, it wasn’t as crowded and the people were friendly.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/PCDayDeck4Gatun.jpg
It took a little over an hour to get through all 3 locks. I went to the secret deck 7 to see them close behind us and that was just as fun as being up front in my opinion. The people were taking turns on the railing and letting everyone get a chance up front. Magical!
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/PCDayGatunAft.jpg
My dd 3 and I wandered down to deck 4 again (left side???). We were on the left side of the locks and on the right side behind us was a huge container ship. Being aft, I was able to get some great shots of it. Anyway, they had let the photographers off to walk the locks and dd 3 and I got a picture taken from the railing. I was told this time the photographers are being boated across, not by helicopter so they won’t be taking any pictures from the air like last time.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/PCDayGatunLocks2.jpg
After we made it through the Gatun locks, almost everyone went inside for a brief time, as it was hot and humid. Traveling through Gatun Lake was pretty, very heavily forested.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/PCDayGatunLake.jpg
A native person was onboard and gave commentary the whole time we were passing through. On deck 4, I met one of the pilots. He was 1 of 3 who was helping with the passage and he was looking over the edge and making comments through a radio.
Around 11:30, they had the deck BBQ. It was very very good with salads, roast chicken, steak, shrimp kabobs and breads. The BBQ was very very hot under those tents, I don’t know how the guys flipping the steaks could stand it.
After lunch dd 3 and I went for a swim, it was so hot! We then went back to my parents’ verandah to see the Pedro Miguel locks in the afternoon. Our final locks, the Miraflores locks, I went back to deck 4 and finally to deck 10 again. At the Miraflores locks, there was a tourist center and a bunch of people were there waving at us. It was ironic that we were taking pictures of them taking pictures of us! Mickey came out and waved and the captain sounded the horn several times. Everyone cheered.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/PCDayTourist.jpg
Up on Deck 10 I was able to get to the front just in time for going under the bridge.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/PCDaybridge.jpg
I also got some good shots of Panama City.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/PCDayCity.jpg
By the time we went under the bridge, it was 4:45 p.m. I left then to pick up the kids and get ready for dinner. Our dinner was set for 6 p.m. instead of 5:30 so everyone could see the whole thing before we ate.
Dinner tonight was in Parrott Cay and the menu was Panama or East to West or something like that. There were several missing tables, everyone must have been tired. My dad left early, he was a little sunsick. The menu was very good. I had the crab legs, crab soup and rib-eye for supper. We brought a bottle of wine to the table to drink. Our assistant server must be very good at what he does because it was an outrageous corkage fee!!! Just kidding, I knew about the fee before I brought it to the table.
Supper ran a little late and I had laundry in. I left before dessert and went to the laundry room. That room was a mess! People were going crazy there too. Moving clothes around and stuff. My dad even had his bag of clothes thrown in the garbage. Luckily he found them but he thought someone had stolen his clothes at one point. I made it a point to sit with my clothes while they were drying so no one would throw them on the ground. One lady took up 4 washers and 2 dryers at the same time!!!! I don’t think I am going to do laundry again this trip, we’ll just wear dirty clothes.
Tonight was the premiere of Narnia: Prince Caspian. All of us went and it was pretty good. The girls both fell asleep and I almost did too because I was tired. I did have the DOD, it was Panama Hat and was tasted like a tropical punch, nice!
Oh yeah! We got a lithograph from Ducky Williams tonight too! It had king Triton on it and the ship going through the locks. Very very nice. We also took one of our dinner menus and had our server, assistant server, head guy and the dining room manager sign it. It will be a wonderful souvenir. Did I tell you what their names were? Server: Adrian – Philippines, assistant server: Pieter – South Africa, Head guy: Allassendro – Italy, Dining room manager: Alan – Croatia.
Up next: Day at sea, Twice Charmed, Prince and Princess menu, Ducky Williams presentation

Thank you so much for keeping up with your report. I don't know where you find the time. :) My family is reading it and talking about how we will be on the ship the next time it goes through the canal. :) Enjoy the second half of your cruise! :)
PS...if you happen to know any of the DIS geeks on board...Vanessa (lillygator), John & Amy (Jhalkias), Kim & Savanna (kimerinc), PJ (pjpoohbear) or Angie and Dennis (MrsMork) please tell them Lisa & company sends their love. :) TIA!

This morning we woke up at 8:30 again. I was not feeling well so X took the kids up for breakfast and I slept in. After they came back, I realized we had missed our Character Breakfast! That was pretty disappointing to say the least.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/SeaDay-Day8.jpg
One of the dis members had an extra spot at brunch today so I was booked to go at 10:30 a.m. to Palos. It was excellent! We had booked the private room and there were 10 of us. The food there was so creatively displayed and it was very good. I enjoyed meeting the other disers, whom I haven’t met before. The pizza was my favorite. By the way, I still haven’t heard from Palos about my wait-list for brunch someday. So even if they don’t call me back, at least I have gotten to experience brunch.
After brunch, I wandered around and looked for people but I didn’t find anyone I knew. I ended up in my parents’ stateroom with the girls for a while. Then the men came back and took the kids swimming, my mom went out to tan and I had a nap. I was going to sleep all afternoon but Darrin reminded me about the Ducky Williams show at 3 p.m.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/DuckyPresentation.jpg
So I hustled down to the Walt Disney Theater and got a ticket to win a sketch. He was very interesting to listen to at this adult’s only show. He talked about what he does and how he got started. I really did enjoy it but I didn’t win a sketch, darn it! There is another family presentation on Tuesday I hope to go to again. He is also doing a signing session so I am going to take our lithograph down to get autographed.
When I returned to the stateroom, X had the girls there and cleaned up for dinner. The pool had been closed for another “floaty” so it was good they were done! We got dressed for dinner at semi-formal night and took some pictures with Sorcerer Mickey

*****All the photographers look at us weird when we stand in line and ask for 2 separate pictures with the girls, one with me and girls and one with X. Oh well, it's how we want it****
Tonight was prince and princess night. There were a ton of kids dressed up in those clothes. I felt sort of guilty because my kids don’t have princess costumes. The menu was of course, prince and princess.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/PPnight.jpg
Dinner consisted of ravioli, sausage and potato soup and for the main course, I had roast lamb. Again, it was pretty good. I didn’t feel well enough for dessert but my order of the chocolate slipper was eaten by the adults. DD 6 is getting a kick out of ordering “nothing” with sprinkles and ice cream. The other night she wanted nothing and was given “nothing” so now she likes to order it every night with ice cream.
We have an ongoing war with our assistant server with hiding the salt shakers after we are done. The first time it was funny watching him search for it but now he expects it so it’s all good. Last night it was hidden in the bread bowl. He found it right away.
Tonight’s entertainment was Twice Charmed. The girls stayed awake and watched the whole thing. I think they liked it. I still think When Mickey Dreams was the best one. I don’t remember what the drink of the day was but I had it and it was ok.
After the show, DD 6 was determined to go to the sleepover at the club. X dropped her off and disappeared. I got a page about 10:30 that she wanted to be picked up so I headed up behind Topsiders to get her. There were about 30 kids in her age group (5-7) and I would bet about 100 in the 8-12 group. Stitch was there and she was a little upset by how naughty he was being. So she didn’t sleep over after all. I had suspected that would happen.
I didn’t do anything after our show, just went to bed.
Next up: Another Sea Day, Master Chef menu, The Art of the Story
Random thought: I haven’t met too many dismembers at this time. I meet people but they don’t seem to remember me! LOL. . . But seriously, it is hard I suppose to remember everyone with so many people from the disboard on here. Someone asked if I have meet taysmom, but I haven’t. I can’t seem to remember all the activities that are going on with the dis people either. So mostly I have been doing things with my family or striking out on my own. I’ve gone to a lot of activities by myself and I don’t feel weird for doing it. There are lots of people who attend things without their partners or families so I fit right in.

I am loving your trip report!! Questions, was the sleepover to be an all night sleep over, or just till 12 type thing. Was the chocolate slipper like the ones from WDW?? What did the boys where on Princess and Prince night??
Thanks.
Thanks for posting this. I love how you are updating everyday. We were supposed to be on this cruise, but my husband's work only allows so many people to be let off at a certain time. Wouldn't you know that someone else with more seniority than him booked this exact same cruise and got the dates. Hope they are having fun, because we sure would have!
Anyway, loving your report!! :) Have fun!

Count me among the lurkers whom have been enjoying your TR since it was a pre-trippie....glad to hear you're having a good time and that X appears to be living up to the crayon agreement (at least that we've heard...)....and that you haven't continued your trail of DCL violations that might've kept you quarantined....but in all seriousness, :thanks: for taking the time during your trip to keep us posted....it's great, but giving me DTs for not being on board...and it doesn't help that there are occasion EB Repos avail at the moment....DW would not be happy with me if I get the bug...

As another EB cruiser, I'm really enjoying your report, especially since our kids' ages are almost identical to yours, so it helps prepare our expectations to reasonable levels (though I never expected DS4 to tolerate too many sit down meals in a row).
We are also signed up for our cruise's secret mickeys, so I was curious how you were leaving your gifts, just in the fish extenders or did you have other ways of doing it?
Thanks again for all your posts.

This morning was the usual, wake up at 8:00 a.m. or so, Breakfast at Topsiders, then spent time at the pool. My dad went to Captain’s corner Q & A. He said it was very interesting but didn’t have a whole lot of news to tell me.
Spent most of the morning and afternoon at the pool.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1020751.jpg
Not so many kids in the afternoon for some reason. The Mickey pool never seems to get extremely crowded, and I can always find a lounger for myself. We left around 3 p.m. and shortly after that, there was another missile in the pool. It was closed again. We have been lucky so far to not be in the pool when that happens.
This night’s menu is Master Chef. I had a dill and sour cream soup which was pretty icky. No appetizer and had the spiced chicken for dinner. That was pretty good. Then some sort of banana cake dessert, which was excellent. The table of 8 next to us was missing so we had speedy service and our servers performed magic for the girls. They really enjoyed that.
This afternoon they had 2 for 1 DODs which were Deep Blue Sea. We had several of those because of the special!!!
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1020752.jpg
Tonight’s show was The Art of the Story. It was just kind of like clips from some of the animated movies. But we all enjoyed it. The girls were enthralled the whole time. It was entertaining, but very loud.
At 10:30 p.m., I finally managed to catch the John Charles show. He did singing and made up lyrics to songs. Pretty entertaining. Apparently, he has extended his stay because all the cruisers enjoy him so much. Tonight was his last show before he gets off tomorrow in Acapulco.
Really nothing exciting to report except the X and I had a domestic this morning. Ooops! Was thinking we could actually pull this vacation off without arguing but I guess it couldn’t happen. Oh well, it wasn’t that bad, no blood or missing limbs so I guess we can make it to the end. . .

Hi everyone,
Thanks for still following along! I have to say, the Sea Days are getting to me. Today was Aculpolco and we had a blast! My dad almost got arrested!!!! Wild times for sure, will have a good update in a few hours or so!
The sleepover the other night was for kids 5-12. 5-7 or 8 were in one group and the older ones were in another. They took the older kids up to the covered goofy pool and the little ones behind topsiders for some night activities. But when we went to get my DD 6's stuff, there were a few kids in the club sleeping too. DD 6 was pretty upset because they were serving mac & cheese and she does not like that!!!! I thought it was funny. The sleepover was from 9:30 - 9:00 the next morning.
I had a cold yesterday, so that's why I didn't do too much. Can't wait to update you guys on today's activities, they were fun!!!!
Stay tuned!

Hi Jolene,
Being married 16 years, & I must say, most couples always have "domestic" when traveling. Very normal ;) It's not easy for any 2 adults, to travel a few weeks, sharing a small room with 4 people.
We are all *loving* your report, & touched by your charm as well as honesty.:thumbsup2
Again, thanks for sharing with all of us, we are enjoying every word and waiting for more.
some times its good to clear the air
hope your cold isn't getting you down to much

This morning, we woke up at our usual time of 8:00 a.m. It took quite a while to get everyone ready for our day in town so we didn’t leave our room until after 9:00 a.m. We went to Parrot Cay again for the buffet. I am getting tired of scrambled eggs, so maybe I should be daring tomorrow and order an omelet!!!
Finished breakfast around 10:15 and checked the navigator and saw that Pluto was going to be on deck 9! Yay! The girls wanted a picture with Pluto since day 1 so today was the day. Lots of people up on deck 9 watching us pull into Acapulco.
After the pictures we climbed to deck 10 and watched us arrive. The announcer came on and said they were going to blow the horn but still, we jumped out of our skins when they did! DD 6 started crying, we were close to a set of speakers. People were lined up on shore and pulled over on the road to watch us arrive and waved and cheered at us. Made me feel like we were celebrities. While we waited to get cleared, I saw 2 men and a lady with luggage coming up the walk. I don’t know who they were but I am assuming they are our entertainment for sometime. I didn’t see them close up.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1020768.jpg
We were cleared to go ashore around 11 a.m. but none of my group did. We were scheduled to meet our tour in the Rockin’ Bar D at Noon. We all met down there and got our instructions and stickers for our group. Apparently our tour is one of the most popular with the cruisers. There were probably 300 people there. We chose to do the City Highlights/Shopping/Cliff Divers tour.
They broke us up into groups and gave each family 1 disposable camera. They also tried to sell water to us but I was sure we got water sometime during the excursion. We all brought water with us anyway and I had taken 2 apples for the girls.
After we disembarked, we were broken up into smaller groups of around 20-30. A tour guide was assigned to each group (we were the orange group and had to wear the funky bracelets) and off we went. We walked across the street to the museum and old fort. On the way, these little girls were sticking their heads through some small circular openings and trying to sell us fans and pens. “Only 1 Dollar” was the phrase I heard all day. I did not buy anything because I’ve been told that the parents are exploiting their children this way and that there are programs available to help people like that.
DD6 thought she would fit through the holes like the peddler girls did:
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1020813.jpg
Our museum/fort tour was long and hot. I didn’t find it very interesting at all. Mostly because of our tour guide. He went on and on. I know history is a hard subject to teach but I think it can be interesting with the right guide. JMO by the way.
After the tour, which was about 45 minutes, we walked back across the bridge to the gates again. The kids were still there. Before we got on a bus, they gave us water!!!! I knew I was right! I picked up 4 bottles.
We took a bus ride up and down the coastline and saw a lot of stuff. McDonalds, Burger King, Senor Frog’s, etc. . . The beaches looked beautiful. Our driver assured us there was no crime, that sounds familiar.
Then we went through a poor section of town that had a lot of garbage and bars on the doors. Even the shops were barred. If you wanted something from the shop, there was a little opening they would hand your stuff to you and take your money. If there is no crime, why those precautions?
We stopped at a resort on the cliff that was owned by a friend of our tour guide. There, we received coke, beer or water. I took a coke in an old-fashioned bottle. I kept the bottle. Dad took a Corona extra. I didn’t like the taste. The resort was beautiful, built on the edge of the cliff so there were many steps going up and down. Lots of coconut trees.
DD 6 with her stolen flower:
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1020861.jpg
We stayed there about ½ an hour and then on to the cliff divers. Got there around 3 p.m. and waited ½ an hour for them to dive (in the hot hot sun!). There was 1 professional diver and about 5 or 6 amateur divers. I walked the 85 steps to the bottom to see it from that angle and the divers came down and went over the edge of the cliff, climbed down to the water, and then swam over to the other cliff and climbed it. That was pretty amazing in itself because the cliff was pretty steep, would be hard to get a hand-hold. There was a film crew there that day. The amateur divers dove from various heights on the cliff. There were little notches cut out like a platform at several places on the face of the cliff. 2 of them dived together. After they were done, they climbed back up our cliff.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1020888.jpg
It was pretty neat to see but we were all sunburned by the time they got around to diving. Then they ran up the steps and called out for tips when we climbed back to our bus. There were a ton of peddlers in the area, selling all sorts of things and being very persistent.
After that, we stopped at a market and got a popsicle and saw an old church. I stayed outside because I had on a tank top and I was afraid of offending the locals (although no one said anything about it). I saw many people crossing themselves as they walked by and tons of people chasing us down with things to sell us. One guy put a bracelet on DD 3’s arm and would not take it off again. We all had our hands full of junk and popsicles so didn’t want to get it dirty. Finally, he took it off but it was annoying!
Then we were taken to a ritzy shop that has the agreement with Disney to sell stuff to us. We could have coke, a margarita, or corona at this shop. I got a margarita first and then a coke and wandered around. It was mostly expensive silver and gemstone jewelry, out of my price league. I did buy a little souvenir, it was $20 but my dad bartered it for $15.
Then came the sad part of our journey. Most of our group went outside to wait and we saw a baby, probably no more than 1 year old asleep on the steps into a drug store. She was so cute but looked very hot and it was just sad to see it. Her mother and sister were across the street and when they saw all of us looking at the baby, they ran over with stuff to sell. A lot of our group came away with fans after that but I didn’t buy anything.
Further down the street, a little girl no bigger than DD 3 was walking up to us with chiclits. We crossed the busy highway and finally got to go to the touristy shops! DD 6 wanted to get something and this was the only place I could afford something! She got a bobble-head butterfly and DD 3 got another bobble-head turtle. I guess we will be collecting those turtles in each port.
The bus took us back to the port then but my dad was missing. The guide said he had gone with 2 of his (the guide’s) friends downtown to exchange some money and look for something. My family was worried but the guide said they couldn’t wait, as we were on a tight schedule.
We arrived back onboard at 5:25 and the girls and I decided to go eat at our rotation. We were all in tank-tops and shorts and hats but I thought it would be ok just this once to eat like that. I saw a lot of other people dressed the same. We took our hats off and sat at our table. Our servers were very grateful to see us because we were the only ones in their sections. About 5:45, my mom arrived after a shower and change. About 5:55, the X showed up. We had lost him in the tourist building inside the gates, turned out he had gone back up the street to purchase a trashy t-shirt.
After 6 p.m., my dad showed up with a horror story. The 2 guys took my dad into the city to a dubious section of town. Let’s just say that they entered a store and the worker called the police. Now the guide told us the police can speak English but these guys didn’t. They searched his bag and questioned him and detained him for a while. Now my dad is a cop so he was quite put out with being treated like this, although he didn’t act out with them. He just obeyed what they said and the 2 friends were talking rapid Spanish to the cops. Finally they let him go and the guys took dad back to the bus, only we had left a while ago for the ship. They walked him back to the ship and he said he had never been so glad to see Mickey as he was today.
Tonight’s menu was Mexican Riviera. I had the beef burrito for appetizer, the Mexican soup and the sirloin. It was all pretty good. Minnie came to the room with some Mexican dancers.
Tonight’s show was a Mexican forklore dance. I didn’t go, instead I went to the Narnia movie, I didn’t get to see the end last time. X and the kids said it was a bunch of dancing. X said they were good dancers but you have to be interested in that stuff to really appreciate it.
I think tonight they had a Mexican dance party on deck 9 but none of us went there. The attire was cruise casual. We were set to leave around 10 p.m. Our servers and our room host were able to go on shore for a while.
Random thought: the tour was ok. I enjoyed the bus ride and the divers but I think my kids had reached their limits. But there aren’t many excursions you can do with a 3 year old so we were limited in what we could do. I wouldn’t feel safe taking a tour like we did in Aruba because Acapulco is much larger and way more people.

What a day in Acapulco; your poor Dad! That's such a crazy story, I wonder what they were talking about, why they treated him that way.
I had to post to say that I am really enjoying your "real-time" trip report! I look forward to reading this every morning! Thanks so much for taking the time to share all of your experiences as they happen! :)

Our secret mickey gift exchange is going well. The organizer left it up to us how often to give, what to give but told us to keep the level down under $25. My dd 3 has gotten a little gift every day, mostly princess stuff. DD 6 has only gotten a few gifts on the cruise so it is hard for her to see her sister get more. The girls have given things like silly putty, funky chapstick, sand bracelets, stickers and we bought some stuff in Aruba to give to their kids too. I think we are going to give a big finale gift at the end, probably something with their favorite disney character. We've been giving gifts every other day or every 3rd day.
I know a bunch of disers went to the cliff divers on their own. I think a taxi costs around $10 each way? The passporter says they collect a $3 fee but I saw a sign that said $7 but am not sure what that was for. Our tour operation gave the diver's money and like I said, they stood there and called for tips afterwards. I know the restaurant has viewing there too, either 1 drink and a show or a buffet and a show. The name is Hotel Miradors and they have a website, I think? I know Gydell was going to lead a bunch of dissers that way.

We are on the EB Repo and are booked for the same tour in Acapulco. Did you think it was worth the money? Do you think you saw enough or do you think that too much time was devoted to shopping? I'm really enjoying reading about your trip.

Guess what? I set the alarm for 7:15 this morning! The reason being I had to go down to guest services and send a message to all the dis staterooms.
Today, DD 6 was feeling sick. The story begins a few days before we left. DD 3 came down with a wet cough. It got really bad once we hit Florida and all that moisture was around. I had gotten antibiotics from the doctor before we left to be used in an emergency. My mom, who is a nurse, said her cough had changed so we had to start her on the amoxicillin. She still has a bit of a cough but no other symptoms. This past weekend, I got a cold, the kind that makes you feel really lousy and all you want to do is sleep. Well DD 6 decided to get both the cold and the cough over the weekend. Today she ran a fever and felt achy and had the wet cough too.
So she stayed in the stateroom most of the day. X brought back some breakfast for us all and then we shifted over to my folks’ verandah room. We went to see Ducky’s family presentation and it was just as good as before. Mom, both DDs and myself went. DD 6 felt ok around mid-morning so we went to it. Darrin was the host for the show and guess what??? DD 6’s raffle number was called to win a sketch by Ducky!!! She won a sketch of Lady. I am starting to think that Darrin and DD 6 are a winning combination. I’m attempting to find out what other events he is hosting so we can see if the winning streak continues. . .
After that excitement, my mom took the girls to her stateroom and I went to get the Captain’s autograph. I waited 45 minutes in line and he signed the Panama menu I have been dragging everywhere.
After that, I ran up and got some pizza and checked on the kids. DD 6 was complaining that she ached all over but the medical center didn’t open until 4:30. I had to leave at 2pm for the Dis Kids dance practice. 6 girls showed up and at first they were hesitant but by the end of practice, they looked like they were having a good time. I think they will do well in the talent show.
At 2:45, I grabbed DD 3 to attend the princess tea time hosted by Belle in Lumieres. There were tons of girls either dressed in princess costumes or wearing nice dresses. My kid was in a t-shirt and shorts but to my defense, I have been really busy today with all that is going on and I knew DD 3 wouldn’t like dressing up for a 1 ½ hour production. We live on a farm and dressing up to us is putting on a pair of shoes! Formal night was pretty rough, having to sit through 2 hours in a dress for the girls.
DD 3 wasn’t too impressed with this princess thing. Her name was written on a card and when we got inside, a man was announcing “Princess Kinsey”. We walked down a line of waiters/waitresses and received a pink sash that says “Princess” on it. DD 3 refused to wear it.
Hey, I think I see a DISMEMBER!!!
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030008.jpg
At the table, they had coffee, tea, juice, milk or softdrinks plus water to serve. We also had tiny bite sized cakes, sandwiches and other desserts. Belle, Snow white, Cinderella, Minnie, Dopey and 2 female mice from Cinderella were there. They all visited each table and periodically, someone would go to the center of the room and teach us how to curtsey, wave, talk and all. Most of the kids seemed to really enjoy it. DD 3 flatly refused to get her picture taken with anyone who came to our table.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030004.jpg
My dad showed up after about 45 minutes of this and I left then. He said Peter Pan, Wendy, Alice, White Rabbit, and Mad Hatter showed up then. He took a bunch of pictures with Kinsey and them I guess. I was just glad to leave because it was loud and all. But most of the kid adored it.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030022.jpg
I got in line to get the lithographs signed by Ducky. I took my parents’ too. He was scheduled to sign at 4:30 and I got in line about 3:40 or so. I was behind about 20 other people. Luckily, he started signing around 4:00 and about 4:15 I got ours done. When I left, I was amazed by the line. It started at the entrance to the Walt Disney Theater, right in front of Walt’s picture. It went to the elevators, snaked around the side and along side of Studio Seas and then down the corridor going towards Shutters. Talk about a line! I was so glad I got in line early.
After that, I picked up the girls. DD6 was still achy so we went back to our stateroom. She wanted a potato though so I took that as a good sign. The girls and I stayed in our room while X went to supper at Lumieres. He brought back the menus and tonight was Around The World. I ordered the steak and potato for dd 6 and the prime rib for myself. DD 3 was sleeping. It took a while but finally there was a knock on our door. It was our main server Adrian! He had personally come to deliver our meals and make sure we didn’t need anything. I think I will be tipping him more than the recommended amount because he is really good.
DD 6 didn’t eat anything and looked a lot worse so I broke down and took her to the medical center. Just before 7 we went in and got checked out. The doctor said she had the FLU!!! I was pretty upset to hear that (she hasn’t gotten her shot this season) and was worried about the Q word. QUARINTINE!!! The doctor did not say a word about it and gave us no meds. He said it was a virus and there is nothing we can do except relieve the symptoms. He said no kids program and that was it! Wow, that took a load off my mind! I was worried she would be stuck in the room for 2 days but I guess not. I won’t be taking her anywhere anyways so it probably isn’t a big deal if we were stuck in our stateroom but if she feels better tomorrow, I was hoping we could take turns going into town. He thought she would feel better tomorrow.
So that was a $76 charge on my room. After we got back, I gave her some motrin and she threw it up. This was the first time she did so I gave the center a call. Now I thought we would be quarantined but we weren’t told anything like that. The nurse on call just said if she was throwing up in the morning, to bring her down. She fell asleep shortly after. Poor little kid.
I decided to go to the show tonight, because everyone said Joey is really good. X stayed in the stateroom with the girls. The show tonight was Joey Fatone and Alfonso Riberio. Just in case you are clueless like me: Joey was a singer in the N’Sync band. I’ve heard other people say Backstreet boys, 98 degrees and others but he told us tonight it was N’SYNC. Alfonso was the guy who played the rich cousin of the Fresh Prince of BelAir show. He had that funky dance he would do sometimes and he did it for us tonight!
Joey and Alfonso sang some oldies songs like My Girl, Under the Boardwalk and a few Disney songs. In between, they did some humorous banter between themselves. They were fun to listen to. I especially liked it because I could listen to them sing but watch the interpreters. They really do steal the show. I know, I sound like a broken record. . .
I came back to the stateroom and X went to do laundry.
Up next: Puerto Vallarta 8:00-5:30 (no excursions booked), Taste of California, Crew Talent Show
Random thought: I think our servers may have had a falling out but I am not sure. I like both our servers a lot but I do know this is only their 3rd week together.
I am starting to feel like the worst mother of the year today by dragging a sick kid around the ship. DD had spurts today of feeling fine to feeling achy. If I would have known she had the flu, I wouldn’t have taken her anywhere today. I was worried about the quarantine but only because of all the stories I read about it on the boards, like being stuck in the stateroom because a kid was sea-sick or got sun-sick. I thought the medical center was Q happy or something. I am sorry that I took her to the Walt Disney Theater. I don’t want to expose her to other people. The reason I took her to the medical center tonight is because she started to look gray. Throughout the day, she was ok and then complaining about her cough. I was thinking she just had the same cough my DD 3 had. Tomorrow we may just take turns staying in the room with her because she doesn’t need to be dragged around if she feels bad.

Jo- can you ask dad where the the new tags are for the boat (the smaller one-not the yacht). Rod wants to use it this weekend and I couldn't find them anywhere. Just send me an email with the info maybe he didn't renew it yet. Sorry Bree is sick, sounds like you guys are having fun though. Pretty funny dad almost got arrested. They were probably just scared of him. Has he found any t-shirt flea-markets yet? Dionne, Annie and I have been reading your blog, it's fun to see what you are up to everyday. Just one question, is there only like 2 or 3 restaurants on the ship or do you just go to the same ones? What's mom been doing, is she having fun too? When are you guys coming home exactly? Mon, Tues??????

Hey Jolene...
Why not get some cough suppressant at the Walmart in PV? It is supposedly visable from the cruise dock.
It might help her sleep a little if the cough is bothering her or keeping everyone else up....;)

Really nothing exciting to report except the X and I had a domestic this morning. Ooops! Was thinking we could actually pull this vacation off without arguing but I guess it couldn’t happen. Oh well, it wasn’t that bad, no blood or missing limbs so I guess we can make it to the end. . .

Hi Jolenel I'm relly enjoying reading your TR and hearing about your adventures! Sorry your little one isn't feeling well. I quote the above because the Walmart in PV is most definitely visible from the pier; it would be either a very short taxi ride or a nice walk if you have the time. The port area isn't too bad at all; I felt safer walking around there than I did in Nassau, to be honest with you. Get healthy vibes are coming your way!:wizard:

Today, for some strange reason, we woke up at 7:00 a.m. X went up to bring back some breakfast and DD 6 watched cartoons. DD 3 was over at my parents’ cabin, she had a sleepover because of DD 6 being sick. DD 6 did not want anything, it all tasted bad to her.
After we got ready, DD 6 and I went up on deck 10 to take the pictures of our next port. Puerto Vallarta is nestled in a harbor. We were cleared to go ashore at around 8 a.m. Parked next to us was the Carnival Pride. They had a ton of stateroom verandahs on their ship, even on the aft section of the ship. There was also a submarine in port too.
We went down to deck 1 to wait for X, DD 3 and my parents. We took the stroller for DD 6. This morning, she felt much better, ate a little and only had a cough. So we decided to go ashore on our own. DD 6 and I waited for X and DD 3 about ½ hour on deck 1. X said my parents were folding clothes (???) and would be down later. We decided to disembark without them. Once off, we proceeded down the covered walkway. Right by the ship was a table stand with people soliciting city tours. They also had free maps. The lady there told us we could do 3 tours (downtown, tequila making, rainforest/birds) for $25 each. We said no thank you.
Further down the walk were the government vans and taxis, we said no to them too. About ½ way through the port area, there was a huge mass of people waiting to take a boat that was shuttling people over somewhere. There were natives and tourists waiting. The port area was pretty disappointing, a few shops selling food and Mexican hats.
Finally my parents arrived and we went out. Last night at the show, Brent told us not to use the government taxis, to take the local ones. Outside the gates, there was a whole bunch of the government tours/taxis. One guy approached us and told us he would give us a tour and showed us where we could go. Originally we were going to get a taxi to the downtown/Malecon/Boardwalk area. But we decided to go with this guy.
His name was Jesus and he drove us in a surburban. First we went for a tour around the Marina area. We saw lots of fancy houses, condos, motels and golf courses. It was a very pretty area.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030046.jpg
Then we went downtown and stopped at a cathedral to take some pictures. 80 % of the population is Catholic.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030061.jpg
Our next stop was at a tequila making place. It was in the middle of some narrow cobblestone streets. The guy there gave us a run-down on how to make tequila and we tasted a bunch of stuff. Some of it was icky. We spent probably ½ hour there. My parents bought a bottle of the tequila mix that tasted like candy. It was mixed with something to make it very sweet and chocolate. The guy said we could use it on our ice cream.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030068.jpg
Next we traveled around the downtown area. The streets were so narrow and cars were always parked on one side. So if 2 cars were going down it in opposite directions, 1 car would have to pull onto another street and let the 1st car pass. PV is very hilly so we were going up and down some pretty steep streets.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030072.jpg
Jesus took us to a beach next. We parked in the middle of the dead end street and got out. There were umbrellas with tables and chairs underneath it. Jesus said we could use them, all we had to do was order a drink and they were ours. I didn’t like the area (although the beach was very pretty) because there were old men walking around trying to sell stuff. Jesus said that was very typical of all beaches. Mom took the kids out to get their feet wet and a wave came in and got them soaked. The kids were crabby after that.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030077.jpg
We drove down the Malecon/boardwalk area. I really liked this area. It was over 1 mile long and was lined with shops and restaurants and the beach too. That was what I originally wanted to do. He said he would take us back there and we could stay there and call a taxi later.
Next we went to a very hilly section of town and stopped for the view and to browse some vendors. Part of the agreement these tour guides have with the various places and to be certified (you know, the fancy ID card). The vendors were pretty tacky: Mexican sombreros, blankets, silver bracelets, bags, etc. . . My dad bought the girls silver bracelets. I guess even though they were tacky, we still buy them don’t we?
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030082.jpg
We passed by, somewhere along the way, a bull-fighting arena. Jesus said there were bull fights every night at 5:30. In Acapulco, they were beginning to ban it for the cruelty to animals.
Our last stop was the market section. My dad was in his element here, bargaining for everything. I like to have him with me when I look for things because he can always get a good deal. I bought some vanilla for a friend of mine who likes to bake. DD 3 found her bobble head turtle and DD 6 got a wooden “thing” that makes weird sounds. I have no idea how to describe it. The markets had all the same stuff, same as the Acapulco stuff so if you miss it in 1 port, you’ll find it in the next one.
Then we decided to go back. I was disappointed because I wanted to go to the boardwalk but there’s no way I would do that by myself. I swear our tour guide read the Passporter book 2008 because if you look in it for what walking tour to do and points of interest, our tour guide took us to each spot.
We paid $100 for all 6 of us on this 3 ½ hour tour. Again, it was very flexible. He took us where we wanted to go and was great to listen to. If you find yourself going there, I can give you his details if you’d like to try his tour.
After we got back on-board, we relaxed in the stateroom until our supper time. Tonight was Mousekateer theme with the menu of Taste of California. We were in Animators tonight. My dad and X went to a movie – The Bucket List – and said it was really really good. So they didn’t go to dinner. Mom and the girls and I went to dinner. I had some sort of Duck pastry (it was icky), the butternut soup (excellent) and prime rib. Sorry guys, I am not very original with my meals.
I figure I am daring enough with all these tours so when it comes to food, I better play it safe.
Tonight’s show was Crew Talent Show. It was pretty good. There were a few singers (some of them shouldn’t have been singing) and some dance numbers. They had dancing with the officers, several of the officers and a few guests did some numbers that they have been practicing on this week. There was a hip hop solo dance. A lady who did some balancing tricks. And my favorite was the maintenance boys did a hip hop routine that was really really good. Oh yeah, Brent rounded up 3 other guys to dress up like the Wiggles and they did a wiggles song. It was really funny.
After that, we went to bed because we have Cabo tomorrow and have to tender. Tomorrow night is also pirates night and Mike Super – magician.

NO we didn't have any blizzards this week, but it still hasn't warmed up very much. Although it will be 70 today with hurricane winds of course.
Tell Dad Rod says he's just going to transfer everything in his name and then they won't have that problem. I think he's going to try to renew the tags today.
Let mom know that I got some planters to put at the cemetery on Monday and I will clean up the sites.
Avah wants to know if you bought her any souvenirs yet and what they are.
So will it be late monday? When does your flight get in to Mpls?
Have some fun for me!

Hay Woody,
I saw you mentioned in Steph's report. Will you be making a report on your trip? Please post your link.
Hope you had a great time.

I'm enjoying your trip report. You mentioned how much you enjoyed the choreography of the shows and would like to meet the choreographer. I don't know if she is THE choreographer or just one of them, but she was actually on the ship for this cruise (although she said she usually isn't). Her name is Nikki and she organized the Dancing with the Officers for the crew talent show. Did you get a chance to meet her?
She also taught the ballroom dance classes and a special dance session the last day, where she taught us a routine from one of the shows. It was a blast, but she had us completely worn out. She was really nice and answered lots of our questions about the shows.

Jolene --
Thanks for sharing so much of your trip. I'm another EB and stayed up late tonight to read your whole report!! WE can't wait!! Sounds like you and your family definitely had a TOAL. And just like with weddings, seems likes there is always something (like a sick child) to put a wrench in your best laid plans. You seemed to handle everything beautifully!
Can't wait to hear the end of the story :)

Hey!!! I was at the session where she taught us that fun routine. I was by myself :goodvibes but really enjoyed it. It was so upbeat! I didn't stick around but she was fun to listen to for those who had questions.
I didn't go to any of the ballroom sessions because it was just me. Would have felt funny just watching them. But I would have liked to see what you guys did. Glad you had fun, I did too!

Woody,
I am glad I got to meet you guys on the ship. I wanted to tell you but I kept forgetting that I LOVED your comments on our meets thread. You always had those one-liners that had me in stitches. I so wanted to meet you and was glad I bumped into you in the hall that one day.
Glad you made it home safe.

This morning we woke up around 7:30 a.m. as we turned our clocks back 1 hour last night. Today is Cabo! We were pretty slow to get up and going. The 4 of us went up to Topsiders for breakfast. DD 6 felt a lot better but still had that nagging cough and the cough medicine had little effect on it.
After breakfast, the girls and I were ready to go into town. But my parents and X were slow to respond. So I decided to take the girls in on my own. Cabo is a tendering port and it was about 9:30 a.m. when we decided to go in. I loaded up a backpack of sand toys and beach gear and went down to the Walt Disney Theater. They were still issuing numbers for tenders so we went down there and got a ticket. We were seated in the theater and waited about 20 minutes for a tender to become available. Shore excursions booked through Disney had first priority to go ashore.
Our number came up and we went down to deck 1 to load the tender. I was nervous about doing this by myself but the workers lifted the girls into the boat and a kind man helped us get settled. The boat ride was about 5 minutes to the shore and wasn’t rough really. I had heard they had cancelled snorkeling excursions today because the seas were a little rough.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030099.jpg
Cabo is very dry! An abundance of cacti growing everywhere and lots of rock and desert. We arrived at the pier and port and our bag was searched partially to make sure we didn’t have any food in our packs. Luckily, I didn’t bring an apple for the girls this time.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030090.jpg
We made it through the gates and explored the market area a little bit. A lady pounced on us and showed me a resort timeshare they were doing. I was really tempted because it was beautiful and they offered me: $100 cash, free water taxi to and from, all day pass to use all their facilities. But eventually I said no because I didn’t want to drag my kids to the 90+ minutes of sales pitch.
So we started walking down the harbor around to the other side where the beach area was. The kind man from the boat was going the same way as we were and helped me herd the kids for a time. The info lady told me it was about 35 minutes walk to the other side with the beach. A few minutes of walking made me stop and ask a guy how much the water taxi was. He said $6 for the 3 of us. I said ok but I was very nervous about following him down through the gates and on the dock. Our captain spoke no English and we had to pass a bunch of natives lounging around on the dock. We were the only passengers but we made it ok. It took about 5 minutes to get to the beach. The whole time I was thinking he was going to hold us hostage for more money or something. Must be watching too many suspense movies because nothing happened.
After we returned to the harbor area, I noticed on all the gates down to the docks there is a sign that says each passenger has to pay $1 fee and to get a receipt for it. Well the guy who led us down never said a word about it and we passed guys guarding the gate and they never stopped us so I don’t know what that was all about. Great, so now I am probably wanted by the harbor police for evading their dock fees!
The main beach area had some really beautiful sand. It was cooler today, high 60s in the morning. To me, it was a nice change from the heat but most everyone was wearing jackets in the morning. The girls and I settled on the beach and they played and played. Every 5 minutes or so, someone would come along and try to sell us something. It got a little annoying in the end. A guy tried to rent us an umbrella for $10 for the day but I said no. The water was a little rough, the waves were pretty strong. DD 3 was initially scared of the water but soon got the hang of it.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030096.jpg
After a few hours, my parents and X showed up. Don’t know how they found us because the beach stretches on for a few miles. And I didn’t really tell them which beach I was going to, because I didn’t know myself. So we sat for a while but I was getting sick of the peddlers on the beach so we decided to walk back to the pier. It was a long walk and the whole way people are hanging around trying to sell you something. We got separated and my mom and girls and I found a Burger King so we went in and got them something. Paid in dollars and got pesos back, good souvenir I thought!
So many women sitting on blankets with trinkets and their kids running up with the gum to sell you. And both DDs got another bobble head turtle to add to the collection. I think this makes 6. I bought one of those purses made out of candy wrappers.
We shopped around the market again once we got back to the pier and bought both our servers a small gift to say thank you. We have this running war with the assistant server and the salt shaker. We hide it each night and he has to figure out where we stashed it. So I bought him a salt shaker painted from Cabo. I thought it was appropriate.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030131.jpg
Headed back to the boat around 2 p.m. and I was forced to do laundry. DD 3 did not have any clean unmentionables so I did a few loads. Took a while as it was pretty busy for a port day. I keep running into Ducky Williams today, he must be with us for the rest of the trip. I have not seen Joey Fatone or any other performers we have had. But I don’t get to roam the ship as much as I like so they could be out and about and I am just missing them.
Tonight was pirate night. Bought the girls some pirate head gear. That was the extent of our dressing up. The girls and I took photos with Captain Jack, because I bribed them with a promise to go to Mickey’s Mate and get something.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030115.jpg
Saw Captain Mickey and DD 6 wanted a picture with him too.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030117.jpg
Tonight’s menu was Pirates. Started with the pasta. Had a Caesar salad and the roast for main. Tonight’s dessert was Triple chocolate, which was too rich for me.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030130.jpg
Mike Super was our performer tonight. He is a magician and is pretty darn good. Made a woman float on a board. Did some card tricks. Made it snow and stuff like that. I guess he is doing an adult show tomorrow night, late, which I will try to go to.
The deck party was tonight and X decided to go. It’s been good to take turns going out at night.
Random Thought: I’m about ready to go home. Our cabin is getting smaller and smaller as our souvenirs and junk keeps spreading more and more around the room. I have loved every minute of the experience but the girls are really tired of living like this. I really am glad for the most part I have X to help with the girls, that way it gives each of us a chance for a break now and then. And I have enjoyed the ports and the Canal a lot. I don’t think I will be able to experience Disney Cruise line again for several years so I am trying to justify a last shopping spree down at Mickey’s Mates.

Hi everyone,
Here are some photos of the gifts we received for our cruise.
The Litho is from Ducky (of course) and says the date of the cruise in blue near the bottom (can't see very well). We only got 1 for our stateroom.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030250.jpg
On the last night (or maybe it was the second to the last night), we came back to our room and our host was just doing up the room and came in with 2 trinket boxes for us. I think they usually allow only 1 per stateroom but he knew the situation in our room and gave us two.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030252.jpg
Side view - it also said the date of our cruise on the 3rd side

I am slowly adding pictures to each of my journals so read through them again to see the pics.

I am really enjoying your cruise report. I leave for my very first cruise next May.
Are you wearing a sea sickness patch? I may need one of those.
I did wear a sea sickness patch. Got it from the doctor. It was a 14 day supply and I wore each one for 3 days. I got a little queasy some nights but I also think that was because I got a cold too.
The Pacific side was rougher than the Atlantic side. Very noticeable once we passed through the canal.

Hi, Was your 5 x 7 lithograph by Don Williams?
TK
During the cruise, sometimes at the shops on board they would give you a 5x7 postcard type picture with a Disney scene and the changing effects on it. One was of the little Mermaid under the Disney Ship and when you tilted the card, she would swim up, up, up towards the ship. Another was of lilo and stitch and they were dancing. Those are the types of things I meant when I talked about receiving a lithograph (sorry for the confusion). We also had 2 waiting on our bed one night. I think in total we received about 10 during our trip.

Can you try to find out who will be the cruise director in July, just want to find that out
Sorry I wasn't able to find out this information. I think I read on another board that Christiaan was going to come on board sometime as CD? I could be wrong so don't quote me on that. I wasn't able to ask Brent about it.

I am loving your trip report!! Questions, was the sleepover to be an all night sleep over, or just till 12 type thing. Was the chocolate slipper like the ones from WDW?? What did the boys where on Princess and Prince night??
Thanks.
The sleepover was an all night thing for ages 5-12 I think. It started around 9 p.m. and ended at 9:30 the next morning. The kids were supposed to wear their pjs, bring an blanket, pillow and any other comfort type thing to sleep with. When they checked in, stickers were printed with their name on it and attached to the items they brought with and stacked together. The kids went up on deck 9 and played some games and were divided into younger and older groups. There were a ton of older kids (maybe ages 8-12) on the covered Goofy pool and about 30 or so younger kids (maybe ages 5-7) that were behind Topsiders. DD 6 reported that Stitch came out and they were trying to feed them Mac and Cheese so she wanted to leave and I got the page. I picked her up on deck 9 and went down to the club to get her stuff. There were about 10 kids in the club sleeping or just laying down so I don't think they had to go on top if they didn't want to.
I didn't get to see my chocolate slipper but my server asked if I wanted a left or right one. Then I had to leave the table and my tablemates ate it so I didn't get to see it.
The boys were dressed up in various outfits for prince and princess night and the special tea afternoon. Some were dressed just like the princes in the movies, some were in church-type outfits, some were in sailor outfits, and some were dressed in rennaissance clothing (which was really really cute).

With the secret Mickey exchange, I never had any really big items to give. Once the item was too big for the fish extender so I tucked it in the top of the fish extender in the clip part.
I have been told that you can also find a stateroom host/hostess and ask them to put it in the room for you if it is too big.

Jolene...
We are on the EB Repo and are booked for the same tour in Acapulco. Did you think it was worth the money? Do you think you saw enough or do you think that too much time was devoted to shopping? I'm really enjoying reading about your trip.
Thanks,
Kim
Hi Kim,
With the tour, I think it is an ok way to spend time in Acapulco if you have no idea what to do, like we did. If I ever go there again, I wouldn't re-book it. But, I was told by our tour guide that the cliff divers had a special show just for the tour groups at 3:30 and had extra divers. So that was a plus. There was not a lot of time devoted to shopping, just at the end and several people left our group and wandered around on their own. We were close enough to the ship that they could walk back.
My little girls were mostly bored but we were moving all the time so they didn't get too whiny. The only part that was really bad was the tour of the Fort San Diego, what a waste of 45 minutes of my life. Only because of the tour guide, he was terrible. All the kids in our group went stir-crazy in the fort, because they were so bored.
All I can say is if you have no idea what to do or where to go, this is a safe way to see some of the city and see the cliff divers.
Hope that helps.

I've really been enjoying your trip report. Glad to hear your DD is feeling better.
Did you end up taking a goverment taxi in PV or one of the local ones?
Hmm, not sure about this question. The tour guy had an "official" picture and name tag on him but I am not sure if he was a government tour person or not. He was certified by something but I am not sure exactly who. I think he may have been gov. . .
The night before Brent told us not to take the government taxis, to take the yellow, local ones. I asked Jesus, our guide, about it and he said he didn't know why we were told that, as the gov rates were the same as the others. He thought maybe because you can try to barter a cheaper rate with locals but it doesn't always work and the gov rates are set. Like $3 a person to get to the boardwalk, that is a set rate with them.

Wow-Jolene, incredible trip report. I really, really enjoyed it. I was late to work and getting the kids to school because I couldn't tear myself away from the computer.:surfweb:
We'll be on the Magic in July. Would love a bit more info on your taxi guy in PV. I will be traveling with my in-laws and family of four so it sounds like a good option for us as well.
Can't wait for your update. You should be a writer! You are very entertaining.;)
Regards,

Hi Rene,
You will have such a good time! I bet you are so excited about your trip!
I think my dad got the guy's business card so I could get that information for you if you want. We did like him and our tour. I thought he charged us per person but my dad said it was per hour - we paid about $100 for a 3 1/2 hour tour. He was certified by something, not sure what so he had to stop at 2 places - one was the tequila making factory (but we could stay as long or as short as we wanted) and the other was a street up on a hill with a few craft stalls (we didn't have to stay very long) and a great view. Otherwise, he kinda took us where we wanted to go.

Today was another sea day. It has been noticeably cooler yesterday and this morning. X did not want to get up this morning so DD 3 and I went to Parrot Cay for Lumieres for breakfast. We were seated at a table for 8 by ourselves. Very awkward. When we got back to the room, DD 6 was complaining about being starved. X was still in bed. He finally got going and went to get her a plate but she didn’t like anything he brought back. So it will be 1 of those days, huh?
DD 3 was ready to go to the pool:
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030134.jpg
Today we spent a lot of time in the pool. Mostly the hot tub! We went up there to watch the movie Cars on the Ariel TV. The girls and I were there about 20 minutes when my dad showed up. So we spent about 2 hours in the hot tub. Hardly any other kids or people were around. DD 6 and I went in the goofy pool for a while, it was cool. It was also very rocky, the pool looked like a wave pool. I wish I would have gotten a video of it, you could almost surf in it. DD 6 did not like that sensation so we got out.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030135.jpg
Dad and X went to the Debarkation presentation at 11:30. Then they kept asking me what was the procedure to leave. I had no idea, I didn’t go! I don’t know everything, you know. . .
The girls and I went up to Topsiders for lunch, it was a steakhouse buffet. I took them through the kids line and we couldn’t find any seating so we went down to my parents’ room. Then I decided not to go back up to get my own plate.
This afternoon we had a quick run through of the dis-kids dance skit. Then we headed to Rockin’ Bar D to rehearse with all the acts. It went very well.
I don’t really know what else we did for the afternoon but tonight is formal night. I was able to dress the girls up nicely and pull their hair back and then we went downstairs. Tonight was the Captain’s Gala and it was free drinks. I had some type of pineapple drink (alcoholic) and it was nice. They also had Shirley Temples for the kids. We were in Lumieres for supper, which was really nice. The menu was Captain’s Gala. Dinner was good, we had the lobster tail.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030141.jpg
Our servers had a surprise for X, it was a birthday cake. Technically he doesn't turn 36 until May 26 but they wanted to give him something now.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030147.jpg
After supper, we took pictures in front of Lumiere’s behind the Mickey statue and on the staircase. They turned out really well so I broke down and bought them.
Tonight’s show was Disney Dreams. The story about Ann-Marie and Peter Pan and trying to get her to fly by thinking of the Disney stories. Both DDs fell asleep during the show. DD 6 wanted to do the Mousekateer show at 9:30 but she was asleep. We took the kids back to the room and X went to the adult’s show of Mike Super (magician). He was actually in the Walt Disney Theater because he is so popular. X said he was really good, better than the family show.
Another round with X today. Today’s entertainment was on tips. I had figured out ½ the tips and did them up in envelopes and got another set for X’s shares. He got mad at that. So I think it is time for us to leave the ship before security is called.
I’ve decided with my share of tips to give more to our stateroom host Aldo, from Peru and also to Adrian, our server. They both have been so helpful and excellent at their jobs.
Random thought: in Acapulco, Cabo and Puerta Vallarta, my cell phone doesn’t work. If I try to call home, I get a Spanish recording. I also try to use the international dialing and get the same results. This puzzled me because I don’t speak that much Spanish so my stateroom host listened to the message for me and translated. He got a big kick out of it, laughing at the situation. But the message was that I needed the password for international calling. International roaming is not active on my phone but I thought I would try anyway. I was able to make calls on the sea days between Castaway Cay and Aruba and also the day we were at Aruba. Weird. . .

Today we woke up at 6:45 a.m. Went to Parrot Cay for the buffet with the girls and I asked for Adrian (our server). White coats ran around and sat me down and said they would bring him by. Turns out he wasn’t working until a little later but they were going to track him down. I was embarrassed, I only asked if he was working that I be seated in his section.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030154.jpg
I actually ordered an Omelet and it was pretty good. Should have done that before. We did get to see Adrian before we left – he was running the toaster. We went one last time to Shutters and to the gift shops and spent money like it was going out of style. In the end, I did buy 8 8x10s, including one of the panama canal photos of the ship. I had no intention of getting ANY photos but Disney knows how to appeal to your emotions with the photos.
The girls got a few gifts and stuff. I ended up not purchasing any of the Panama Canal merchandise. They had beach towels, coffee mugs, shot glasses, photo frames, a gold coin and then the limited stuff you had to pre-order like pins and a Christmas ornament. I wanted to pre-order an ornament but they were $55. I went down to Up Beat on this day to see if they had any extras but they were only selling the Mexican Rivera ones at that time. So now I am sorry I didn’t get one but there’s not much I can do now.
I did end up buying a ship ornament, some scrapbook kits and several pirate gear things. I also bought a few things on Castaway Cay.
Today we also met our secret Mickeys. We brought one last gift for the kids we were giving to. I think over 20 people participated in the exchange. DD 3 got some terrific things every single day!!! They were all princess themed, which was right up her alley.
The kids, X, my dad and I went to Parrott Cay again for lunch, because our servers were working there. Today’s buffet was Seafood but it was pretty ordinary. DD 3 did not want anything except fruit (which was not on the buffet line) so Pieter, our assistant server went upstairs and brought her a plateful of watermelon. These guys have been very good to us!
Don’t know what everyone did this afternoon but I went to the Rockin’ Bar D as one of the choreographers was teaching part of a dance routine from the Golden Mickey’s show. I am always interested in learning new routines so I really enjoyed it. There were about 10 of us there and Brent came by and found us some water bottles. It was fun and upbeat. I think the song was from Tarzan where the gorillas get in the camp and make that music with the stuff.
Went back to the room and convinced the girls and X to do one last swim. I systematically went from deck to deck and took as many pictures as I could. Even of the dumb things like the public bathrooms and the carpet. Saw lots of other people doing the same thing.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030169.jpg
The carpet:
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030195.jpg
Tonight was the Till We Meet Again menu and it had a lot of princes and princesses on the menu (cruise casual). After supper, we gave the guys our tips and thanks. I did tip Adrian more than recommended.
At 7:30 we were in the Rockin’ Bar D for the guest talent show. The dis-kids were up first with their number. I had put together a routine of short popular dances all in one song. Like The Twist, Grease Lightening, Thriller, YMCA, Macarana, Chicken Dance, etc. . . They were really funny to see. I wish I could upload it to Youtube or something but I’d have to get all the parents’ permission first.
We stayed for a few other acts of singing and dancing and then went up to the show. It was Till We Meet Again. The Disney Characters and songs appeared. A guy named Jeff Civillico came out and did some balancing acts and had a few men participate, which was really hilarious to watch. I hope THEY post the video on Youtube (if anyone filmed it) because they were the highlight of the show. Mike Super came out again for one more act and had a man help him out.
And that was it! The girls both fell asleep again tonight so I took them back to the room. X disappeared for a while but I went to sleep. I think he found a girlfriend. . . LOL!
Tonight we had another surprise in our room. Aldo brought in 2 boxes. We opened them up and they were a trinket box with the Panama Canal on the front with Chip and Dale and the ship. Aldo knows our situation in room #7537 so he brought 2 in for us so we could each keep one. By the way, I am keeping Ducky’s litho. X had no objections to that.

Well folks we are here:
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/P1030222.jpg
The end of the report. I don't want to tell you about the disembarkation day - although we didn't have any hassles or lost luggage like some people. I guess I am hoping the report doesn't end with me being buried forever in the Minnesota snow some winter. I hope to do more Disney travel sometime in a few years. . . Thank you to those brave souls who left positive comments on this report, I enjoyed reading them all.
I did want to share one touching memory for those die-hard hopefuls that wanted a love boat reunion:
X did this:
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/100_0153.jpg
Which started our last arguement.
It took this to calm me down:
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh222/jopedo/Disney%20Cruise/100_0152.jpg
And after this arguement, I want to thank the gracious couple who helped me by providing free therapy in the Deck 7 laundry. They stopped me from going through with my plots of stealing a steak knife at our rotational restaurant that night. . . But seriously, thank you for listening to me that day in the laundry while I cried into my laundry detergent and giving me your KTTW card so I could escape. Well. . . maybe not that far but I enjoyed meeting you and hope I didn't bore you too much with a 90 minute mini-series of my life.
Maybe I will summarize with a list of highlights and tips for anyone foolish enough to still be reading this trip report. As you can see, I have trouble letting go. . .
Thank you for the update and pictures. It was nice of you to go back and do that. I admit I was one of the hopeless romantics that was hoping for a reunion with the ex. I kept telling my husband, if they can go on a 2 week vacation in the same room together, something is bound to happen. ::yes::. . .
I guess I read too many romance novels. ;) I am glad you had a good time. I hope you do get to cruise again with Disney soon.

DD 3 wasn’t too impressed with this princess thing. Her name was written on a card and when we got inside, a man was announcing “Princess Kinsey”. We walked down a line of waiters/waitresses and received a pink sash that says “Princess” on it. DD 3 refused to wear it.

I have a question about that early birthday cake for your X. How did they know? Did you request this?
We are cruising 8/21-8/24 and my DD's 10th bday is 8/27. It would be cool for her to get a cake but not sure how to arrange that & if it is OK since it is before her birthday.
Experienced cruisers, please advise me!

Hi Jolene,
I've really enjoyed reading your report! I was even reading it while we were on the ship. I'm afraid I'm one of those people who kept running into you and not remembering who you were! I'm sorry if that was so. It was overwhelming at times meeting so many people with so much going on.:faint: But it was the trip of a lifetime, wasn't it? I'm so glad I got to go!:goodvibes

I "think" my parents mentioned to the servers that X's birthday was coming up a day after we got off the ship and they mentioned that we could get an early birthday cake for him if we wanted to. They wanted us to do that because they wrote something really funny on the cake as a joke between them and X.
So I would talk to the head guy the first night of your cruise and see if it can be done. I know we did not put in a special request before we cruised like most people do. But we also had 2 weeks of cruising so they had plenty of time to prepare.
Maybe you could call DCL and ask them directly.

Hi Cheri,
I am sorry, I did not mean to offend anyone by my comments. I was trying to be funny but maybe it didn't go over so well. I do not blame anyone if they didn't remember me, there were 100+ Disfamilies on the cruise so you'd have to have superpowers to meet and retain the memory of EVERYONE.
It was overwhelming and there was tons going on so it's all good.
Glad you had a good time, I think we all did!

I didn't see you at the dance session. DH and I were too busy tripping over ourselves and trying to breathe. :rotfl: I did pretty well getting the routine down, but good gravy I'm out of shape. I'm sure you fared much better than I did. It did give me a little satisfaction to see the former dancer who was up on stage with Nikki was dripping sweat by the end of the session as well. And he's at least 20 years younger than me. LOL.
Loved the trip report. I couldn't get the boys interested in participating in the dance skit you organized no matter how much I tried. Oh, well. Sounds like it went well.

Solgent: What a coincidence! My DD'S 9th bday is 8/27! We are cruising on 8/3-8/10, though.
When we made our initial cruise reservations, the Disney agent asked if there were any birthdays or anniversaries being celebrated--to which I said yes (our 10th anniversary is 8/29). She said they'll have cakes ready for both occasions.
I am guessing you could tell a server or guest services as soon as you board and they will have a cake ready for your daughter.

Jolene,
Loved the report! It's like reliving the cruise all over again. I did see you at the Mickey pool some but didn't know who you were. And we were at Who Wants to Be A Mouseketeer during the session you won.
We also had the early dinner, so we were at the 8:30 shows with the sign language interpreters. THEY WERE AMAZING! We talked with them several times and they ended up being on our horseback riding excursion in PV (as tourists-not working). In case anybody is interested, their names are Brian and Jenny and they do not work for Disney or DCL. They are independent contractors based out of Orlando. They had done the Med last year with Deborah's (scottishwee) family and were back on board with them again. DD was so enthralled we ended up sitting like 2 rows behind Deborah and her family at the shows just so we could watch them. We ran into them at LAX waiting to fly back home.
On the last night, we got to the show pretty early, probably around 8:05 and took our regular seats. A couple minutes later Brian and Jenny walked in the theater and walked across the front to their spot. Everyone in the theater at that time started clapping for them! It was great!
A note about Acapulco for the EBer's...if you just do the cliff divers without an excursion, take a taxi there, but it is very possible to walk back to the ship, which we did. It's all downhill but through the poor section of town that Jolene mentioned with the bars on the windows. But really all the locals that hassle you are close to the port so it's difficult to avoid them no matter what.
Does anybody know why there are guys in camo with machine guns standing around in the ports of Mexico? That was a little unsettling, although I assume it's for my safety.

I found myself watching them also. It was especially fun knowing they were signing for Debrah and her family!
....back to your report....I'm sure I'll have more comments! ;)

You probably have no interest in this but. . . here's my views on the shows:
My favorite Disney production show was "When Mickey Dreams". Some people I talked to didn't like it, which is understandable. It had a subtle "dark" theme to it with the weird music going on that turned some people off, plus it was very loud. But I can assure you it has a happy, Disney-like ending. Coming from a person who organizes dance recitals, I appreciated the choreography, music and costumes, the way they all ran together. The acrobatics were stunning and I guess I really like that kind of stuff. There wasn't a lot of singing like most of Disney's shows, more like a Dream Weaver guy was reciting and chanting during the event. I think it is different from their usual productions but a fascinating change. The costumes were so fabulous with the acts and lighting.
My least favorite Disney production was The Art of the Story. Mostly because it was so loud. It still was very enjoyable and certainly wasn't a waste of my evening. It's hard to explain what it was like but they did sort of like mini-skits and movie clips from various Disney Movies.
My favorite entertainment that they brought in from outside was a toss up. Mike Super - the magician is very entertaining. And the way he add-libs to his show by responding to his volunteers is so funny! Kevin Johnson - ventriloquism was also great to see. I thought his late night show was a lot better than the family show though. Ricky - our hypnotist was great also. Again, I think I enjoyed his adult show better than the family show, partly because of the volunteers who went onstage.
My least favorite "other" entertainment was Scott Record - the impressionist. He was good to see, sang quite a few songs and did some tap dancing. I guess the other shows had more comedy to it that I enjoyed more. And Joey and Alfonso would be next. Don't get me wrong and please don't shoot me, but I agree with another comment that their show seemed to have a last-minute/throw things together feel to it. They were very "watchable" though and I never felt with any of the entertainment that it was poor quality or a waste of my evenings.
It's just some of the entertainment was better than others. I wish I would have seen more of the late night entertainment. John Charles was never one of the family shows but still, I really enjoyed his adult show. Jeff Civillico - the juggler/balancing act guy was really entertaining for his 15 minutes in the farewell show. I am sorry I didn't catch him at any of the late night shows.
It all came down to timing. By 10:30 at night, when most shows start (and I understand the reasoning behind why they start late - to give late seating guests a chance to finish dinner), I was exhausted. Some nights I wanted to see a late show and I was way too tired. Oh well, as someone wisely pointed out, you can't do everything.
Oh, another favorite/do-not-miss event is the crew talent show. If those maitenance guys do their hip hop routine again in August in their bright yellow jumpsuits, you guys are in for a treat! My dad told me that 1 of those guys wasn't actually maitenance, he was a kids counselor. It's just fun to see the cast members do things that are out of their element. Make sure you compliment them later on it, they really appreciate it (or blush).

Hi Jolene
It was lovely to meet you and sorry that I didn't think who are you at fishlip? Then I just remember after you spoked out about Australia. Ah, I got it as I remember you wrote the story before the cruise.
However, It was pleasant to meet you and the girls.
I was reading your trip report tonight and I am sorry to heard that your girl was not well. I am glad that nothing serious.
Anyway, we got home this morning as our flight had been cancelled last Sat afternoon as we were dashing as we thought miss our flight but during out it was cancelled. They put us in a lovely hotel for one night at Maingate, hotel sheration which was very beautiful hotel. But we all shattered and want go home as 3 half weeks holiday. We had a lovely times at LA but wish stayed there for a week then flight home to Scotland.
We flew back to Orlando from LA!! because return flights!! We had a great times in LA but I don't think much of Disneyland because over memory day as it was overcrowded. I disliked it but Universal Studios turned out a great day for us. Another interpreter came with us at U. Studios. Much better than Disneyland.
Anyway, back to Orlando for three more nights as our friend went home next day.
Oh well, that is, as our holiday is over now. We booked bummer dates for 2009 as we want 2010 for a week. Wait and see what the plan for 2010.
I am hoping to go back to Australia in 2011 for my brother's international Bowling so my family lives in Taree and my husband's family lives in Sydney and we hope to return to Australia, I wish with Disney Cruise too, that would be nice!!.
Better start save up again;)

I saw a few women dressed as princesses but mostly it was the kids. I didn't dress up in any way, just cruise casual. There was a mixed group, some cruise casual, some a little fancier. It's up to you. It was NOT the second formal night. We had 2 formal nights PLUS the prince/princess night.
Hope that helps your planning.

Sorry to hear about your delay home, must have been a relief to finally make it home.
