If you were to go on a picnic, where would you like to have your picnic at-ex. beach, park, mountains..., and what type of foods, and drinks would you bring along with you?

I would take DH and I and have a picnic on a hill overlooking a park. We would have Mac and Cheese and Fried Chicken. Chocolate cake or Cheesecake....Sparkling Apple Cider to drink. yum....
And then after dinner we sit and watch the sunset and watch the cute kids and their parents playing in the park....and he would ask me if I wanted to go on the swings...:flower3:
And I look into his eyes...:lovestruc :flower3:
And PUSH!!! I would watch him roll down the hill!:rolleyes1 :lmao: And then I would run down and race him down the hill! Then I would run to the swings and he would look at me and wonder what just happened...then...
I would give him a kiss and that would make it all better!
*quiet laugh---hahahahahahahaha:rolleyes:

I would love to go to the lake and fall a sleep on a blanket under the pine trees.
Bring along - DH, blanket, swim suits, grill, charcoal, hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, potato and macaroni salad.

I would like to have a picnic anywhere, the beach, lake, park, mountains, you name it. It all depends on where I'm at as to what I would eat but if there is a place to grill, of course there would be hot dogs and hamburgers, chips, potato salad, pickles, cookies, just a bunch of easy stuff. And if we could stay later and have a campfire, there'd be stuff for s'mores!

Todays lesson - Hide the husband's favorite piece of clothing. When he can't find it tell him you are sure it is there. Tell him to just keep looking. Then have him take the garbage out. When he is doing that put the item back. When he comes back and asks again tell him you can look together. Then see his face when it is right there to be found. Make a joke about old age and then walk away.
See it can be really easy.

You can be both bad and look good at the same time. The last time I did not question authority I was in the 6th grade. I went to junior high and all hell broke loose. My homeroom from 7th - 12th was notorious!!! They did not know what to do about us since 12 of the top 25 in our class of almost 700 came from my homeroom. We had the brains to pull off the stunts. We even had the police in our homeroom after our senior year stunts. They threatened to expel us all. Nobody cracked. Not even the innocent ones. I was so innocent!!:rotfl: My math teacher said they did not know what to do with us since 1/2 were at the top of the class. They did nothing and that completed our 6 years of terror.
Congrats on 25 years, Colleen. When is the date? We are approaching 34!! How can that be when I am only 40?? Married VERY young :rotfl:

Another new week, and one with a sad start since someone we know passed away last week. We have visited with the family, will be attending the funeral....so with all this happening, it made me think about when I pass away, and what I would like to have done. My wishes would be to be cremated, and put along side my first son. Nothing else is needed, as long as that is done.
It is sad, yet it is part of reality.

Sorry to hear your loss. I try not to think about it much either, a couple of weeks ago my whole family was thinking about the loss of a friend. A very active 15 year old from my son's High School was killed in a car accident. She was a good friend of my middle son, he was texting her about 10 minutes before the accident happen. We think her brother was driving to fast on the wet road and loss control of the car, went head first into a tree, killing his sister and his best friend. We were thinking about dead alot during this week, it really touched home, my kids had never known someone close in age that had pass. It was a very difficult week for all of us.
The one thing my DH and I need to do is put together a will, so we know our kids are taken care of.

OMG, that is so sad! :sad1: What a tragedy for that family. To lose one child and then the other one will forever be dealing with what he did. Oh man.
I agree with you though, it makes you realize you better make sure arrangements are made to care for your kids cause you just never know.

Well, that's a good way of looking at it. I'd like that too. Just remember the good times.

My daughter would not eat pizza if it has marinara sauce on it. And, if we get her a pizza with no marinara sauce, but one with cheese, and pepperoni, she would not eat it either. She doesn't like pepperonis, and even if we pick it off, she would not touch it :sad2: .
It is better in our house if we stick to the basic selections. New foods do not get accepted well :(. I am picky as well.

Hmmm toughie there on what my family likes, and does not like. I know my DH can't stand if I make Shepards Pie which is a dish only done when I am either worn out from work, or in a big hurry, and he also does not care for Pork. My son will not eat Meatloaf, so I came up with calling it Crabby Patty Loaf :rolleyes1 lol. Thank god for the obnoxious Spongebob at times that is the only way he eats it go figure.

Hmm, that's a hard one. Maybe Will Smith and his wife (can't remember her name). They seem like a fairly stable couple. Or what about John Travolta and his wife (once again I can't remember the name). I'm sure that there are others that don't get in the limelight very often that would be good parents.
If you were to have a set of twins-a boy, and a girl what would you name them, and why? Also, where would you like to raise them, and why?
The names Clifford and Valerie just popped into my head. I would not name twins rhyming names or names with the same first letter of the alphabet. I'd raise them here in Rockwall, it's a good place to live. Or maybe a little farther out in the country. While both of my kids like visiting the city, they both prefer country, small town living.
Well, I told off Carol's drill team instructor last night through an e-mail. They are taking the TAKS test this week so she won't she her instructor until Monday. I hope that it doesn't affect how she is treated in class too much next week.

I cannot fathom having more kids!! I already had one set of twins (2 girls) and have four kids total, so 2 more would have me pulling my hair out!! :rotfl2:
I also have no clue what I'd name them since it was hard enough finding names for the four we have, but I do know it wouldn't be anything matching or too cutesy.
As for where to raise them, well, if I could move the whole family anywhere, I'd like to pack up and live in Northern CA. but that will never happen because it's too expensive up there!

No, I don't do My Space but my kids do, 3 teenagers. I don't like it, they are on it all the time talking to friends and hopefully that's it. We keep a close eye on what they do online but as parents we can't catch everything. We do have a program that we use to check up on the kids since we have had issues with the Space. Some kids use the space as an area to show off in front of others, and to act tough. Others use it to spam young people, this happen to my oldest son. Plus, others will use their phones and film situations and post them on My Space. We had this happen to my youngest son, he had a situation last fall and it showed up on someones Space and we had to contact the individual in charge of My Space to have it removed. So needless to say I'm not a fan of My Space.

Does anyone have ideas on activities that she could do? I have done a bunch of things with her in the past that we will do, but wanted to come up with new ideas.
Any good online websites? Any other projects? She had done a project of sending her koala doll, and stuffed rabbit to different states, and even to Canada with the help of DISers, and other friends, so maybe a neat short project like that.
Any ideas? Maybe a penpal? She is 5 1/2 years old.

On my friends list I have some cousins/family in MI, and some of the ladies I met on the DIS and went to WDW with. It's like having your own webpage. I can use the blog as a way to let people know what I'm up to, and post pics of the kids or our trips. Then they can view it at their convenience.
My DS13 wants one. I am just not sure how I feel about that though. I think he's still too young. He wants it as a way to share pics and keep in touch with his friend in MI. I don't know. I go back and forth on whether to allow it or not. :confused3

I do not smoke. If other people want to, then that's their decision. I don't know of any business that allows smoking inside anymore except for maybe designated areas. I hate that is so addictive that smokers who want to quit, can't. That is just wrong on so many levels.
For those that do smoke, fully knowing what it can and will do them, and still want to, that is up to them. I don't think you can save a person from themselves. Nor should we. Because then, where do you draw the line? :confused3
I do agree that because second hand smoke is just as dangerous as to those around the smoker as the smoking is to them, it should not be allowed in public areas. We all have the right to keep ourselves & loved ones safe, as much as one really can that is.

ugh. (P-u)
Don't smoke. DH use to, but quit decades ago, after various attempts. (He finally did through the American Cancer Society cessation program.)
Now he is one of those obnoxious ex-smokers who go on and on about it.
We are spoiled because in FL and in NE restaurants are smoke free.
When we visit IN I hate going to restaurants because they stink.
One trip last year to IN I felt I was leaving a stinky ashtray. Couldn't wait to leave. Everywhere smelled like smoke. This last trip was not as bad, but still noticeable.
It does bother me WDW resorts are "smoke free". Now I think smokers just try to hide their smelly secret ;) and inflict it more now more on others.
If they want to smoke, I really do not care. I just don't want to smell it.
We all have our vices.

We don't smoke (DH used to but quit long ago) and in Ontario there really isn't smoking allowed anywhere in public. When we went to Detroit (which is a gorgeous downtown btw) for the hockey game last weekend we noticed what a difference it makes for people to be smoking where you eat! Wow. Once you don't have smoke anywhere, you really notice it when it is there.

The Best Southern Green Beans (From Recipezaar)
These are FANTASTIC! This recipe was revised from an old family favorite! My southern roots come through on this one! Either way the beans end up melting in your mouth and the cooked bacon adds more flavor! REALLY tasty! Good for cookouts or to compliment any meal!
Ingredients
1 (16 ounce) bag frozen green bean, do not drain or 2 (14 ounce) cans green beans, do not drain
4-6 slices bacon
1 large onion, sliced large chunks
1 dash red pepper flakes (optional)
salt and pepper
1 Put green beans in pot- if canned add juices, if frozen add water enough to see but not cover beans- cook on medium heat.
2 Fry bacon until cooked but not too crisp- drain on paper towel.
3 Cut onion in large (thick) slices and break rings apart in to beans.
4 Crumble or rip bacon apart add to beans.
5 Add spices to taste.
6 Let cook for a few hours on low heat.
7 If want to serve sooner- turn heat up and cook until water boils down.

Sweet Potato Pancakes
Boatwright's
Port Orleans-Riverside
Pancakes:
1 ¼ cups brown sugar
¼ tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp cinnamon
2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
¼ tsp nutmeg
1 ½ cups milk
3 eggs-beaten
6 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
12-oz can sweet potato, mashed
Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl. Stir in milk and eggs. Add oil and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Fold in the mashed sweet potatoes (should result in a lumpy texture). In a small nonstick frying pan, heat 1 tsp vegetable oil over medium heat. Pour in batter to desired size. Cook until dark brown (sweet potato pancakes take a little longer to cook than regular pancakes because of the density of the sweet potatoes). Serve pancakes warm with pecan honey butter.
Pecan honey butter:
1 stick butter (at room temperature)
¼ cup honey
¼ cup toasted pecans
Combine all ingredients

What is your opinion about this topic?
Don't smoke and being around smokers really bothers me. I'm so glad they banned smoking from any public buildings in our area. I'm also glad many hotel chains has banned smoking except for certain areas on their grounds. Both my DH and I have allergies and when we are around second hand smoke our eyes start to burn and it becomes hard to breath. So we try to stay away from smoking areas as much as we can.

another way to show my age! :rolleyes1 Everyone around me smoked when I was growing up, but I never did. It doesn't bother me so much, but I hate the way clothes smell after we've been around it.

I am so boring when it comes to making my own salad. I never know what to put. That's why I like to order salads when we go out. They are so good and come up with so many different combinations of ingredients. Of course, they probably aren't very healthy for you then! :rotfl:

A bit of a twist...instead of a regular QOTD-
Come, and share your favorite vegetable recipes with us. Salads, casserole dishes, soups....anything that would contain veggies in your dish.
This is a Spinach Dip recipe that I found online. I hate it. :rotfl: But that's because I don't like spinach. BUT everyone else who's ever had it, loves it!!! It's so weird.
My DH just took it into work for a baby shower the other night, and since he'd brought it in before, as soon as the ladies there saw it, two of them who were on diets for an upcoming wedding, went off their diet just to eat it. :confused3
Geez, it ain't cheesecake ladies!! :rotfl2:
INGREDIENTS
1 cup mayonnaise
1 (16 ounce) container sour cream
1 (1.8 ounce) package dry leek soup mix
1 (4 ounce) can water chestnuts, drained and chopped
1/2 (10 ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1 (1 pound) loaf round sourdough bread
DIRECTIONS
In a medium bowl, mix together mayonnaise, sour cream, dry leek soup mix, water chestnuts and chopped spinach. Chill in the refrigerator 6 hours, or overnight.
Remove top and interior of sourdough bread. Fill with mayonnaise mixture. Tear removed bread chunks into pieces for dipping

I like the organic mix baby greens, honey almonds, craisins, apples, goat cheese, and raspberry vinagrette. And if I have any, mandarin oranges.
I've just gotta have Salad Cream, not Mayonnaise with my salad. It's not common in the US but you can (thankfully) get it in the International aisle of Publix (not sure about anywhere else).
My salad consists of boring boring boring stuff! :confused3

I always say I like any salad I don't have to make myself! Probably because it gets time consuming to cut up alot of things for it. So...as long as I"m at a salad bar choosing, I'll put just about any veggie in it. I don't like croutons so much and go for creamy dressings. I had one at Panerea recently with apples, pears, dried cherries, gorgonzola cheese and pecans in it--I made that at home for weeks.

Ooooh we all love salad cream. We have it with fish, on salad, in sandwiches and yes with fries! It's hard to describe but waaay nicer than mayo IMHO. It tastes lighter and has more vinegar but you really have to taste it to love it.
Here's a link to wikipedia info on salad cream http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salad_cream
As for salads if someone else did the chopping, I'll have whatever is going but if it's home made then I am less adventurous.
Our family favourite veggie recipe at the moment is bean chilli. Pretty much anything goes in but usually 2 cans mixed beans, 1 can red kidney beans, 3 cans chopped plum toms with herbs, 1/2 tube tomato puree, 2 onions, 1 can sweetcorn in water, 3 bell peppers, garlic and chilli. It tastes even better for lunch the next day!

I've seen salad cream around here in stores like Wegman's. I think our new Weis Markets might have it, too. I'll have to try it, since I love mayo. I go to that part of the store often to get my clotted cream fix! :goodvibes
Your bean recipe looks interesting, in a good way. ;) I love finding new things to bring to potlucks.

Here's a good salad:
1 head romaine lettuce, torn into bite size pieces
4 oz shredded swiss cheese
1 cup cashews
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1 apple
1 pear---both peeled, cored and diced
Toss to mix. Pour dressing over salad before serving and toss again.
Dressing for it:
In a blender-
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup lemon juice (fresh, not the bottled stuff)
2 t diced onion
1 t dijon mustard
1/2 t salt.
2/3 cup oil
1 T poppy seeds
Process first 5 ingredients until blended. Add oil in a steady stream while machine is running, until thick and smooth. Add poppy seeds and process just a few seconds more to mix.
Zucchini Bread. (Hey, it's a veggie!)
3 eggs
2 cup sugar
1/3 cup brown brown sugar
1 cup oil
2-3 T sour cream
3 cup flour
1 t baking soda
2 t cinnamon
1 t salt
1/4 t baking powder
1 T vanilla
2 cup grated zucchini
1 cup nuts (optional)
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl. Mix wet in another--then add dry to wet. Add zucchini and nuts last.
Grease and flour 2 loaf pans. Bake at 325' for 1 hour 10 min. Cool 10 min-remove from pan.

When you rent a car, what type grade do you usually get?
Type grade? Is that the same as what model? Well, if it is, we don't have a choice. We have a family of 6 so we have to rent a minivan.
Once when DH's family joined us for a road trip from MI to Niagara Falls, we rented a some monster SUV (like a Chevy Tahoe or something). It seated 9 and was wonderful! So much room! I loved it.
Of course, with gas prices being what they are now, I'd never be able to afford to drive one even if I could afford to buy one. (which I can't) :rotfl:

Oops, car class.
I had checked on rental car prices, and for four days to rent a van it was $226 or so, but to rent a full size car, it was $99. :scared1: That was a big difference for us, so we changed our reservation. Hopefully everything that we have will fit in the full sized car. If not, then we will have to pay that outrageous price. :sad2:

Salads, love them but don't like to make them. If I go to a buffet, I usually get the usual, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, etc. all topped off with sunflower seeds and ranch dressing. If there is pickled okra, I add that to the side.
There is a salad I like at Cotton Patch called Harvest Salad. It consists of various lettuces (no iceburg) and spinach, raisins, walnuts (I think), chicken strips (grilled or fried, can't remember), thinly sliced Golden Delicious apples and crumbled Blue Cheese. Of course, I add Ranch dressing to the mix. Love it!!
We haven't rented a car in years but the two we did rent, one was a Ford Aerostar van and the other was a big Econoline seven person van. We may have to rent for our trip to Chicago in December and are looking at a SUV of some sort.

I hate the beach, but I love the coastline. I know that sounds weird, but the beaches in SoCal were I grew up, do nothing for me. They are hot, crowded, and dirty. Well, some of them are but not all.
I love the rugged coastline of northern CA and on up into OR and WA with the cliffs, and rocks. And my favorite thing to do would be to just take a nice stroll along the beach and watch the sunset.

Congrats :teeth::rotfl:

Oh, that's a good one. Being in the middle of the country, it is very hard to find decent seafood. I'd love some shipped directly to me.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

They're the ones! Oh yummy, they remind me of Florida. I was going to try and make them last but it didn't work. Thanks you very much for the offer but I can't let you do that for me. I'll be getting some in July when a friend comes back from WDW.

If you were to have something delivered to you-flowers, chocolates, fruits....what would you want to recieve?
I think that different types of nuts would be fun, chocolate coated would be best.
If you were to be a spokesperson for an organization locally or nationally, which organization would you choose to work for or be part of, and what would your platform be?
I would not like to be a spokesperson. I am a behind the scenes type of worker.
Mmmmmm 3 pounds of Hot Tamales..
Yum! I used to eat those when I was a kid. Brings back memories.....

Does the dress have to fit my current figure or high school figure? There's a bit of a difference! :rotfl:
I'm off to look at dresses, will post when I find one.
Edited to add, proms were really not heard of when I was at school. They are becoming more popular though.

:lmao: No kidding!!! Like the kind of difference that having four kids makes. :scared1: :scared: :sad2:
Maybe I could just post my actual senior banquet pic. Oh, and we didn't have proms because I went to a private school and it wasn't allowed so we had banquets instead. Same thing, pics, food, entertainment, just no dancing.

I would wear a nice pantsuit. I don't wear dresses anymore. No corsages either, but a small floral bouquet to dress up my table would be nice. I don't know what song. Will have to give that some thought.
My favorite snack.....I have lot's of them. Chocolate covered peanuts, trail mix, Fritos, peanut M&M's, carrots and ranch dressing, apples and caramel dip, just to name a few.

Couldn't do the prom thing. Hated the whole idea. Did it, but hated it. Not going back there.
This one I can do.
Bread, cheese, fruit on a plate with some hot tea.
Nachos.
Chocolate chip cookies.
Toated banana or zucchini bread with lots of butter or cream cheese.
And when watching a movie, have to have the popcorn.popcorn::

Sorry for the delay but oh my, there are TONS of lovely dresses! My favourite colours are green and orange but I didn't see anything I really liked so it has to be this one below. I would wear it now if I had anywhere to wear it to, it's fabulous! I guess a simple red corsage would be best and I'd go for a similar hairstyle but I have dark hair. No idea about a song though.
Have to say it's not really appropriate for a Scottish dance though as it's too long for dancing!

My favorite sauce would probably be cream gravy if you could call it a sauce.
I loved nursery rhymes as a child, used to read them all the time. The one that was probably was my favorite was one I learned to say in African English. My cousins lived there for a year and when they came back they taught it to me. It goes like this, I'll do my best to try and give you an idea of how the words sound, you will just have to imagine the accent.
Bah, bah, blaack sheeep,
Half you any vool?
Yay sir, yay sir,
Three sacka full.
Een for my masse,
Een for my dahm,
And een for my cakie sin
Who lib dawn the lawn.

My youngest was going on 3 years old.
He wasn't feeling well, so we took him to the doctor.
The doctor checked his ears and were pretty sure it was an ear infection.
The doctor wanted to check his lungs to see if spread.
So the doctor listens do the lung and heart check thing. Breath deep, hold it, let it go; while they move the stethescope around.
The doctor finishes and before he can open his mouth to say anything, little bit says,
"Don't you know where my heart is?!"

Many years ago I was working as a security guard. One of the jobs was security for the Abbotsford air show. The long and short of it is that 2 of the security guards (including myself) ran into the rear wing of a CF-18 (a CDN military jet that was on display there for the airshow). With the colour of the jet, and the time of night, the back wing blended in with the night, and you couldn't see it was there. Safe to say it was my most embarrasing moment, and the jet got 2 "kills" that night.:rotfl2: :hyper2:
