OKW is a DVC resort so feel free to ask some questions on the DVC board. I am sure a lot of the members would be willing to help you out!

I love OKW. It is really peaceful. However, the pool does not have the big themes that some of the other hotels do. I have never eaten at Oliva's so I can't help you there.

one thing we noticed about olivia's is the service is not gonna be rushing you. the food is good, but if you are in a hurry you might want to eat elsewhere. but if time is not an issue, then definitely give olivia's a try.:p

Besides having to climb stairs (I understand there aren't any elevators at OKW) are there any advantages/ disadvantages to being on the ground floor vs the 2nd Floor?
Is there a 3rd floor?
Have a nice day.

The newer building does have an elevator. The advantage to being on the top floor is quiet. You won't get the running overhead sounds that are heard on lower floors. Some buildings do have third floors. If you don't want to be on top of everything (hectic, potentially noisy) asking for a vacation home by one of the quiet pools is a very nice option. The secondary pool has a snack bar, as well. Have fun! OKW is a beautiful resort.

We stayed at OKW in Feb.01 in a studio. Ground level, building #16. Our room was very clean and quiet. We were one building from a quiet pool and the bus stop was fairly close. Our 2 sons only went swimming in the pool by our room, themes don't matter to them yet. We ate at Olivias once and the food was good and found the service to be fast. We also found the bus service to be very good and was never crowded. We are staying there again in October. If you are interested in staying here be sure to check out the rent/trade section under DVC. We always rent from members and save alot of money this way.

OKW is a Disney Vacation Club resort that offers condo like accomodations on site.
You can see room descriptions and floorplans at the following:
OKW Room Info (http://dvc.disney.go.com/disneyvacationclub/resorts/accommodationsindex?id=OldKeyWestAccommodationsGrp )
They can be a pricy place to stay, but the 1 bedroom and up are wonderful! Full kitchen, including dish washer, TV in living room with 2 couches and a chair (one couch is a queen sized sleeper sofa), HUGE two room bathroom, with a shower and a separate whirlpool tub; 1 bedroom has king sized bed in master, 2 bedroom has 2 queen sized beds in the 2nd bedroom; each bedroom has it's own TV, VCR is usually only in the living room. Plus a full sized washer and dryer in each 1 bed unit or higher.
Studios have 2 queen sized beds, a small table with 2 chairs, balcony, mini-kitchenette with fridge, microwave, coffee pot; good sized bathroom.
You park right outside your room, no large parking lot to hike too.
I like to stay on the top floor - stairs seem like they'd be a pain after a day in the parks, but we don't really even notice them. I like the top floor because of the very loud toilets - they seem to be jet propelled, and the first time I heard one it really startled me. Plus, I didn't want to hear that from the floor above me in the middle of the night. I always try to be considerate of the people underneath us when we're on the top floor; we don't flush in the middle of the night unless really necessary.
The suggestion to rent points from a member is a really great one - less expensive than paying cash at this resort, but be aware with with renting points you do not get daily maid service; you'll get trash collection and towel exchange on the 4th day of your stay, and a full cleaning on the 8th day; if you pay cash, you do get daily maid service.
Hope you decide to stay at my very favorite resort!!

I think the buildings that are on the 60's are the new ones.
OKW is the flagship DVC resort. Many consider it to be the only "true" DVC resort. The rooms are huge, parking in front of your unit, huge balconys, its just the most wonderful place in the world.
