Does anyone know of any carseats that would be suitable for 13month old that would fit on Monarch plane plus also fit in US car?

We are just in the process of buying our next carseat for our DS who will be 13 months when we travel in September. We have been told that the two carseats used in the USA are Cosatto and Graco. Monach are saying that they are not to measure more that 16in, but are unable to recommend one. HELP?!?!?!?

All suggestions would be gratefully received, Thanks :)

I would be interested in this too as we are flying Continental and have bought a seat for DD who will be 10 months.

when we went with ds at 11 months we took our very basic britax, if you go to mothercare with a tape measure and just check the one you want is not more than 16 inches accross, they have to be able to fit in the seat with the armrest down, the only way of securing the seat is with the lap belt. as for fitting in american cars their seatbelts are the same as ours so no problem there,

hope this helps

I didn't know that the airlines would let you do this, I think it would be so much easier than having the child rolling round the seat! Shelby had just turned 22 months when we went in december and it was really hard getting her to sit still in the seat at meal times, take off and landing etc. If she were strapped into her usual car seat I can imagine it would have been so much easier!

I'm surprised that they do. Their seats and seatbelts are designed and tested for safety and I wouldn't think they would want third party boosters etc interfering.

Alex, was there no comment made when you went?

We are taking our DD in September, when she will be 16 months and are flying BA. I had a look on the Britax website and the Eclipse Si is suitable for taking on planes as it is one of the few seats to take a lap belt as well as a shoulder belt.

hi we have flown for many years usually with travel city direct but have used a car seat on many occasions we used the britax eclipse as it can be secured just with the lap belt and never had any problems it was lovely to have your little one stay put rather than wriggling under the airplane seatbelt

we took our britax one on the plane... but never again! it was SUCH a pain! it was big and bulky taking it on and off the plane... it took up the whole seat (and spilled into mine in the shoulder area) .. so we never took one again...

I flew with TCD that year, only some airlines let you take the car seat, Virgin will not let you use it inflight! On most American airlines it's common practice to book a seat and use a carseat for an infant as it's deemed to be much safer, they have certain models they reccommend and the airstewards fit them for you.
