Hello!!!! To all of you who do not know me, I am a huge Disney fanatic (who here isn't?) and I never ever thought I'd be going to Disney 3 years in a row.....
but I'm going back this September 13th-20th at Pop Century Resort for Free Dining!!!
First up...the CAST:
Me, Cheri, aka Cherbear, a 25 yr old (26 by the time of the trip) lover of all things Disney, especially Chip and Dale!!! :goodvibes
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Disney%202007/P9150054.jpg
Mike, my hubby, aka DH (no profile here YET), a 26 yr old who loves Disney but due to male pride, won't admit to the full extent of that love. :rotfl:
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Disney%202007/P9160073.jpg
(he rarely smiles for a picture of just himself, so here's us together)
Now, here comes the tricky part. It was just going to be us, then my cousin, her husband, and her 6 yr. old were going to come with us. They ended up not being able to go, and unfortunately that was AFTER we had already made dining reservations. By this point in time, my Mom and sister decided they really want to go, and my mom's lifelong friend Linda wants to go and bring her daughter Brittany.
Fast forward to present time, and they are booked during the same dates as us at Pop Century with free dining. (Dad has decided it's "too soon" to go to Disney...we all think he's crazy since they haven't been since summer of '06)
So, the quick fix was to attempt to add 1 person to our ADR's (did I lose anyone on the math there?). You'll find out the results of this quest in my next update.
First, pics of the rest of the cast:
Mom(DM) and Tracey (DSister)
I won't post Mom's age, but she's a fun-loving, adventure-craving, Disney lover who has been going since it first opened.
Tracey (20) is a college student and will be missing a couple days of school in order to go, but she doesn't care...she's going! :rotfl: Some people have said we look alike, but I don't see the resemblance.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/MomTracey.jpg
Linda is Mom's friend, and a dear friend of our family. She now lives in Santa Rosa Beach, FL and we are going to visit her at the end of this week, as a matter of fact!
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/P1010036.jpg
and Brittany (21) who is just too cute for her own good. She is also in college and will be missing school, but she says "Who cares! I'm going to WDW!"
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Britt.jpg
Neither of these 2 have been to WDW in a long time. So I'm considering them newbies b/c they don't know what's going to hit them! :lmao:
Lastly, we have Bacon:
http://lennthompson.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/bacon.jpg
Bacon has been around a LONG time, and made its first appearance on my 2001 trip to WDW. More about this later. ;)
So, as mentioned, my ADR's, etc. will be coming up, and you'll find out how we made out on changing them to accomodate one more person. You'll just have to see! :confused3
I'm sure there's SOMETHING I'm missing, so if I need to include something else here, somebody please enlighten me.
Thanks, and I hope y'all enjoy this and what's to come!!!!

So, I think it’s about time I explain my title. If you know me, you may already know what it’s all about. And if you don’t, you’ll have to check out my old PTR/TR from September 2007 (which is STILL not finished. :lmao: )
That would be HERE (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1519381)
C'mon, you know you want to! (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1519381) ;)
I am still working on that report, because I was without a working computer for quite some time. This one should remain relatively quiet until I can finish the other report, but I have a lot in store for you here once that one comes to an end! I’m still enjoying reminiscing and writing about that trip and I hope anyone who sees this will come and join me over there! It starts off as a PTR but I have all the links to the TR on the first post. And each installment in the TR links to the next installment. That should make it easy to pass up all the banter (unless you enjoy banter that is).
If anyone would like to link directly to the “bacon story” click Here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=19943348&postcount=58)
Then click the link at the bottom of that post to get to the 2nd half of the story, or click
here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=19943475&postcount=60) if you’d prefer.
I hope this gives a better insight into who I am, and I especially hope you enjoy the Saga of the Bacon! It should be making a star appearance in this TR! ;)

I have PLENTY of samples that I use for travelling...you can just call me the sample queen! I should take a picture of all I've collected these past couple of months. It's actually pretty fun seeing how many I can get. :goodvibes I should take a picture of all of them, but then y'all might think I'm nuts!

This is a mini trip report of my weekend trip taken to Santa Rosa Beach to visit friends and have a crawfish boil. The cast includes, but not limited to: my dad, my mom, Mike, my sister Tracey, and bacon. Mom was already there, staying with her best friend Linda. Laurie is Linda's twin sister. They both live in SRB, FL, on the same street. This is how my Mom got there: L & L took a trip to visit their mom in New Orleans a couple weeks before we were to make our trip to their house, so my mom hitched a ride back with them to extend her stay up until we drove her back. Lucky duck!! (If I didn't work, I would've done the same thing)
I took a ton of pics during this trip, so most of this will be pictures, but I felt the large preface was necessary for y'all to know what was going on.
The trip begins! Dad and Tracey drove in (30 minutes away) to come pick us up and we loaded up our bags. We were still trying to last-minute pack after the dog fiasco (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=24817507&postcount=2041). We left Thursday at 4:30 PM from my house, for about a 5 hour drive.
It's okay cuz we had snacks!

(that's Linda's house)
It was around 9:30...we made really good time considering we stopped a few times (restroom...milkshakes at Arbys---mmmm, I have found a new love for Arby's Chocolate milkshake!)
When we arrived at Laurie & Jerry's house the ladies were on their way back from dinner (Melting Pot) but we were greeted by Puff:

Without further adieu, I bring you...the beginning of the itinerary!
Day 1, Sept 13th – Arrival day!
Wake up at 4:30 - 5 am
Load up the car & out the door by 6 am (drive to get Dad so he can drive us to the airport)
Eat breakfast at the airport, or in the car on the way
Flight leaves at 8 am and is scheduled to arrive at MCO at 10:45 am (Orlando time)
Take the DME to Disney’s Pop Century Resort, arrive around 12:30 pm
Hopefully we can check in early, and we’ll request a room close to the front (preferred)
If we check in(I expect so), we’ll bring our carry-on bags and get settled in, take pics, decorate the window, etc. Then head on out to do something!
If we can’t check in then we’ll leave our carry-on bags with the front desk and head out to do something very Disney and very fun! It’s really up in the air. I think I’d like to hit Epcot, hit the new SE, grab a TT fast pass, and have a quick service at one of the countries in WS. Any suggestions? (besides Mexico) Then we can tour the WS a little bit. Sake, anyone?
I’m sure we’ll head to DTD eventually. (I would say we’d hit DQ but it will probably be packed on a Saturday afternoon)
ADR – Raglan Road at 7 PM for just Mike and I. I had this scheduled for just us originally because my cousin wasn’t going to arrive until Sunday (14th) so I left it alone since I don’t know what time the 4 others are going to arrive. (They are driving—I’ll explain in a later post)
We might take in a show at the Comedy Club and then head back to the resort early. I'm sure we'll be very tired and we have an early morning ahead! :goodvibes
to by pass all the "sicky icky" talk
Next: Itinerary: Day 2 (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25932893&postcount=332)

anyways, again, i think you have your first day planed out well! I bet y'all will go back to your resort early and crash since you won't want to wear yourselves out on the first day. Especially with waking up so early. That's another reason Chris and I decided to drive down a day early. We have that Spirit of Aloha Dinner show on the 13th at 8pm...can you imagine how exhausted we'd be if we drove down that morning leaving at 2:30am? And then stayed out for that show?? :scared: But you all are flying so maybe you'll be too excited to sleep :rotfl:
Either way, great first day!! :thumbsup2

Yeah you are probably right. Wow, you were smart to drive down a day early! You're SO lucky! But I consider myself lucky too because we got such an early flight :goodvibes I have to admit, it feels good to have it already booked, and know so far ahead of time when we'll be arriving. Hopefully our luggage will be there before we are ready to go to sleep this time!
I wish I could sleep on the plane but I know I will be WAY too excited to sleep! Plus it's only an hour and 1/2 flight and I can't sleep on the ascent or descent because of my ears. I have to sit there and concentrate on chewing my gum. I don't want to be in pain when I get to the Happiest place on Earth!

Okay so I pretty much left y'all hanging on the SRB trip. Sorry :confused3 I can't understand why my pictures didn't upload in order on Photobucket! I used the bulk uploader. Now it's not making it easy for me to put these in order for y'all. UGH!
So I left off where we'd just arrived at the "big house" and you'll see what I mean soon enough. Our room would be upstairs. There are 4 total. We were informed that the cook (for the crawfish boil) would be arriving the next day and would be staying in the Green room

It's on the back side of the house overlooking the bay. (was hoping to stay in that room but the cook is more important :thumbsup2 )
Linda's sister-in-law, Kay, was already in the Red room so I could only get one pic. (that room was also on the bayside :headache: --and please, no Saved by the Bell jokes :rotfl: )
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES731.jpg
Our choice were the Blue room or the Gold room
Blue room:

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES766.jpg
When Linda said the Gold room was better (better water pressure) we chose that one even though Blue is my favorite color. :confused3

Slightly off topic now but why did your G-Ma eat the bacon that night? Why didn't she wait till the morning? Would a few more hours do anything more to bacon sitting in a purse all day? :)
The one picture of you by the pool table looks like you're in a hotel. You have your camera bag (or purse) and it looks like you're walking around a resort or something. That is some house!!!!!!

I made it down a little late  just before 9...my Mom, Dad, and sister had made it already (I don't think I mentioned they were staying at Linda's house down the street) Tracey was offered the blue room, but decided to stay in Linda's spare room. I thought she was nuts!

Anyway, Jerry tried to feed me like 6 pancakes, and I told him my limit was 2. I had a few pieces of bacon, and one extra for uh...ya know. ;)
It was really, really good.
Puff enjoyed it

He got a short stack....(some of what I didn't eat. :rotfl: )
Once we were nice and full, us ladies (minus Laurie) decided to go shopping.
Here we are, purses in hand, ready to go!

some jean capris

a stylish short jacket I got for like $8 at Ross (was $10 and one side of the clasp was missing so I got 20 % off. I still need to go to the craft store and get that piece)
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/P1011489.jpg
Here's a cute summery dress I found.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/P1011491.jpg
It is on the longer side, but with the shoes I found it looks really cute:
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/P1011493.jpg
They were only $11!! And they're pretty comfy as far as heels go. :goodvibes
Here's a pic my sister and I took the following day, you can see my jewelry purchase
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES1002.jpg
The earrings and the necklace were a set. I paid $20--more than any article of clothing I bought :rotfl: but I just HAD to have them.
I bought 2 other things not pictured. Since my kitchen is apple-themed, I found an apple dip bowl at Tuesday Morning for $3. It came with a spreader thing with "sliced apples" on the handle. Couldn't pass it up at that price.
The last thing was a grey tank top and panty set (to sleep in)...it was also about $3 so I figured why not!
More pics later. Hope I'm not boring y'all to death!

I didn't get a chance. I was too busy taking pictures :rotfl2:
I agree...it's so beautiful there! I got a really good outdoor picture I will be posting in a bit.
Yeah it's really cool. We watched a movie last summer but this time we didn't have a chance. It was a busy weekend with setting up the crawfish boil Friday evening and the crawfish boil going on most of the day Saturday.
I wanted to watch the Disney video, but alas, we didn't get a chance. I will bring it with me next time we visit and hopefully we'll get a chance.
yup, she really does!
By the way, I found something I might buy to take notes in for this year's trip:
Tinkerbell notebook (http://disneyshopping.go.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/DSIProductDisplay?catalogId=10002&storeId=10051&productId=1227477&langId=-1&categoryId=13731)
:lmao: well, at least Mike let you have the camera. Maybe that's a sign of hope for your WDW trip.
cool! Can't wait to see it
That stinks that you didn't get to watch the WDW vacation video :sad2: That would have been such a cool way to watch it. Hopefully you at least got to talk disney

I saw your next update and I loved the pictures! J-Hops sounds awesome! You're making me want pancakes! That was nice of you to share with Puff.

:goodvibes
Great first day Cheri!!! I love it. Now you know it's really real when you start your itinerary!!!

That house is awesome Cheri. I was lucky enough to spend a few weekends in a house like that myself. Also a friend's sisters house. They had the home theater, pool, two garages, huge bedroom suites with bathrooms a 3-bdrm apt for their handyman and though she didn't pay her sister to clean it, she paid her sister to organize, run the staff, etc.
It seems our lives parallel each other, lol. So who is this girl, a friend of yours and you were invited to her sister's house for a big party/crawfish boil?
I know you had a wonderful time and where they put your room, next to the pool table was perfect!!! The sound of all those balls hitting each other was probably camoflauge for other noises, :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Seriously am so glad you had a great time!!! I don't blame you for wanting to go back again next year!!!

I was the designated photographer for the crawfish boil. I told Laurie I would get lots of pics for her and I had my cord so she copied them to her computer afterwards.

Actually what happened was, I was gonna eat some pancakes that were ready, and Jerry told me not to eat the "cold" ones. I told them they are not cold and started to eat them. Then he quickly made more, pulled the "cold" ones away, stuck some fresh made hot ones in front of me, and gave the other ones to Puff. :lmao:

It's Laurie & Jerry's house. My mom grew up with Linda and Laurie, twin sisters. Mom was closer with Linda, who is her best friend. They moved to Florida a few years ago (Laurie first, then Linda followed moving down the street from Laurie) The funny thing is--Linda's husband is named Tom. (Tom and Jerry)
thanks on the bacon pic & the clothes

so are you talking about the camera bag or the camera? A new camera is awesome! don't you still have that mickey back pack you had for last year's trip? Maybe you can put your pressed pennies in there.
That's cool that you were the designated photographer for the crawfish boil. That's what I did at my friend's house in Florida when I was there helping her with her new baby. Made sure to take lots of pictures of her and the baby because she's usually the one behind the camera and then I downloaded them all onto her computer before I left. Digital cameras make life so easy!
Cool!

Okay, I know you're wondering. Why am I up at 3 am you ask? Well, because every time I have to go on a trip the next day, SOMETHING seems to happen that puts me SO behind that I am up half the night trying to get my crap done. (I don't remember if I said it on this thread, but we're making a surprise visit to my MiL this weekend and leaving tomorrow after work. We're headed to The Woodland's, TX) I knew I was going to be busting my butt tonight (last minute laundry, bath/wash my hair/shave my legs, make my feet look pretty--or as good as they'll get anyhow, pack, get the dog's things together for the car, etc) and wouldn't you know it? Something just had to throw my whole plan off! When I got home, Mike's cousin was here. He had been in town for work. He had never seen our house and it's just funny that his work picked this very day for him to be in Hammond! :headache:
He didn't stay too long as he had things to do himself and had already been here for a bit, but we did all take some time to pick some blackberries that are growing wild in the trees at the back of our property. After he left, Mike and I decided we might as well scour all of it and pick what berries are left (animals such as field mice tend to get to a lot of them first :sad2: ) I was enjoying that and the end result was that I got to eat blackberries. So I was okay with being behind a little bit. I knew I still had some time. Then before we walked back home Mike insisted on stopping at my cousin's around the corner. He told them we were making a few burgers. We had 4. Their son already ate dinner (pancakes...he's a picky little bugger!) Mike invited them to eat. They decided to wait a few minutes to come over because they had a couple things to do. We told them we'd call...Mike said he'd probably just bring the burgers over there way. They also had buns, so that helped us out :goodvibes We headed back to the house so Mike could cook the burgers. Now, I knew I had to get to packing and turn on a load of laundry when I got back home, while he cooked. Well 2 other friends were waiting in our driveway when we showed back up. I love my friends and all, but I can't STAND unannounced visits! :headache: (Is anyone else like me?) They are repeat offenders. And it's not the first time I've arrived home when they were already there. :headache: I appreciate them dearly for helping with the dog and all but I just really wish they'd have called first. Now I felt like I had to entertain and I of course couldn't go in my bedroom and pack. I was able to start up a load of laundry but it didn't help matters too much, as you can see that I'm still up at 3 am. They were getting ready to leave when the burgers finished cooking, and since the other 2 burgers were already spoken for I had hoped they wouldn't linger too much. Since dinner was done, no packing done yet, no nails, no laundry in the dryer :sad2: We went back around the corner with the burgers and tater tots, ate, and I was ready to come back and badgered Mike for nearly an HOUR before he got his lazy butt up!! :headache:
Why are men so stubborn sometimes? (sorry all you men out there :rolleyes1 but maybe you can answer that better than we woman can  ) So, the verdict is, I am still waiting on another load of laundry to finish, and I have to load some jeans which will be my last load. I told Mike I'd like him to take care of putting them in the dryer when he wakes up in the morning (he's going into work after me) and he said he would, but I'm sure I'll have to be on him about it. Did I mention he NEVER does laundry? His ensured his not being required to do so one day shortly after we moved in together when he somehow turned all my whites PINK. :rotfl: (I can look back & laugh about it now...It wasn't funny when it happened but I figure I have too many of these: :headache: in this email already)
The best/worst part is---Charter turned our cable off (again) saying we didn't pay the bill!! What is with these morons? We paid it last week! Heck, half the time we get crappy service anyway so they should be giving us a month free anyhow! (that also meant No AI for me tonight. Who got voted off?)
That's my night(rant) in a nutshell. I'm hoping I can at least catch a few winks tonight. And I have to get gas in the morning on my way to work so that means up a little early. And since another guy I worked with is no longer there :yay: (he used to push off his mistakes on me and I certainly didn't appreciate it) I need to be there on time, maybe even early, to get all my work done. I want to be out the door a little before 5 if I can swing it!
Oh and I forgot to mention, these 2 friends that made the "surprise visit" also did the same exact thing last year before our Disney trip!!! Actually, we were going down the driveway to go to Walmart to buy some last minute things we needed. Might have been 2 days before, but that's still pretty last minute shopping to me!! They came down the street, and up the driveway, blocking us in! :headache: They wanted to eat and Mike agreed despite the fact we really needed a bunch of things and had no time to do it the next day (can you guess where this is going....up til crack of dawn!) He said we should buy them dinner because they are watching the dogs. I said, don't you think that is something best done AFTER we get back? The restaurant turned out to be having a bad night and our meal took over 2 hours from start to finish!! I tell ya, things don't seem to go my way right before a trip. :confused3 I think I am just realizing the pattern
Man! Whew! What a week this is turning out to be! I need this little vacation! Whoever is reading this, thanks for listening!!! :listen:

:goodvibes
YAY! An itinerary!
I'm going to Epcot that day, too! I'll be at DTD the night before, though. Anyway I know I'm at Le Cellier at 4:40. Swing by and see me!!:goodvibes

That house is awesome. I like your room, even though the tv is kind of, well, too small for the entertainment center. But good water pressure is better than a big TV.
I like your purchases, too. Little size 6 feet...:sad2: I can fit my big old feet in anything from size 8 to 10! My feet remind me of Fred Flintstone's feet.:scared:

I made some more purchases in Texas, too. Forgot they had a Disney store there til we went to the mall!!! :hyper: :goodvibes
I will update y'all on new goings-on tomorrow if I have time, and show the pics of purchases later this week. Work has been hectic with old whats-his-name gone. But it's been beautifully non-confrontational and the room just feels....well...smarter!

Okay, so I’m really behind on….well, EVERYTHING! I know I still have pictures to post from Florida, then the purchases ;) from Texas, and my itinerary (at least the 2nd day :lmao:), and I have some lists to post. BUT….I first have to make a very important :scared: announcement.
Prepare for a LONG story! (sorry :confused3 )
Those of you who have read my September 2007 PTR/TR (and hopefully still reading) might recall me mentioning how I got sick and was in the hospital last May for a few days. That post is here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1823503)
I never mentioned details because I didn’t want to get into it and wanted to focus on my trip. However, I think it’s necessary for me to tell a little bit now. I started out with bad stomach problems early last year, and I kept having bouts where I would get really sick—many a times, I got “can’t hold ANYTHING down, not even WATER” sick. I saw a couple of different doctors about it. The first one was a good doctor, but his office staff were HORRIBLE. I think they had it out for me. It happened 2 or 3 times where I scheduled an appointment, and they wrote it down wrong on their side---so when I arrived 10 minutes early for the appointment (from my work which was 45 minutes away) they’d say I was 20 minutes LATE and that they marked me as a no-show and I would have to either wait a while or re-schedule. I waited 2 hours one time just to see the doctor and be put on yet another medication that didn’t work.  I waited at least an hour to get an x-ray that didn’t show anything. :headache: And I waited for 3 hours on one occasion, only to be told they couldn’t take me because they were overbooked! I was INFURIATED!   Needless to say, I had to get a new doctor (that was Oschner by the way) only because of his terrible office staff. The next doctor was worse. :faint: His office staff were nice, but he was obviously an idiot. He kept putting me on anxiety medicine saying ‘this medicine is also used for stomach problems’ Then I’d read the info packet and see “side effects include…….upset stomach” !!!!! WTH??? He insisted I had IBS. I must have gone back to him 6 times in 2 months. Running up bills. He ran some bloodwork on me, and nothing showed up on any of the tests. He really didn’t want to do anything of worth for me, but did the blood tests and another X-ray because I kept coming back to him. I did try to take the stupid anxiety meds he gave me, and they NEVER helped my stomach. In fact, I think they made it WORSE in the end. He must have put me on 3 different kinds on 3 separate occasions. (not including 2 others that I turned out to be allergic to) He kept saying I wasn’t giving it enough time to work. I kept telling him, there is something WRONG with me! I didn’t go to the bathroom for one week. Went to him and he did nothing. :sad2: I begged and begged for a referral to a GI doctor and it took me another week to finally get one. I called and called, and went to his office. I needed one for the insurance and could not get it from those butt holes! I finally made an appointment---it was for 2 days later. It had already been 2 weeks of constipation. :scared: I was SO bloated and huge and was crouched over in SO much pain one day that I told Mike to drive me to my doctor’s office. (That was after I called and they said there were no appts available) We bypassed the downstairs check in and went straight up to see the lady in the window. I said, I need to see the doctor, NOW. They knew I meant business, and got me to a room. I don’t know if he thought I was faking it, or what, but he acted very facetious and said “well I guess we can admit you to the hospital, but I don’t know if they’ll have any beds” I agreed to going and he made a phone call and said they had room for me. So in I went. I was there a whole day before they did anything aside from doping me up with Demerol. Don’t get me wrong, I was happy for the pain reliever. I asked them to do something…check me out for God sake! So they had to arrange for the GI doctor to do a colonoscopy and endoscope. They finally were able to do it on day 3. I definitely won’t go into detail here, but, I had heard the prep was the worst part. And for me, it CERTAINLY was. In my situation, my belly was already so full, and after drinking that stuff for 2 ½ hours I still hadn’t gone!!! My stomach was cramping SO BAD. I felt like I was dying. I had to buzz for more pain meds so I could finish drinking the stuff. The nurse was in shock that I hadn’t gone yet. Anywho, fast forward through the yucky part and come to the end of the scope, they only found a lot of redness. Well, duh, on that note. Basically I had some type of blockage that the chalky stuff FINALLY forced out. But what caused the blockage? That was still unknown.
They dismissed me and gave me Miralax to start taking when I ‘couldn’t go’ and I use that occasionally when I need it. I needed it for a while after the hospital visit. But a lot of times it’s the opposite if you get my drift. So I haven’t had to use it much lately. I’m always getting bouts of nausea, stomach cramps, etc. And I’ve never known what was causing it. Up until this past weekend.
I got dragged to CC’s pizza for lunch Saturday. I was trying to eat “healthy” so I made a big salad, and only ate one or 2 pieces of pizza. Later that day I started getting horrible stomach cramps. I went to enjoy a comedy show that night and managed to not run to the bathroom the whole time—but when we got back to my in-laws house, that was a different story. That night was rough. I noticed that (forgive me for being so gross) I wasn’t digesting the lettuce I ate. (Think CORN :rolleyes1 ) Sunday during the drive home was not much easier. In fact, it was worse. We had to stop a few times, but I managed to fall asleep in hopes that my stomach would calm down. It didn’t. I woke up still feeling horrible. And Monday morning, still felt terrible. I was okay to come to work, but just made a lot of bathroom runs. (no pun intended) I decided to google “cannot digest lettuce” to see what I could find. And I found a story someone had written about their ongoing stomach problems, for years, and they finally got diagnosed with Gallbladder disease. At the bottom of the excerpt, she said “Keep in mind that one of the number one non-medical tests to determine if your gallbladder is not functioning properly is that you cannot digest lettuce. No matter how much you chew, your body cannot break it down. Also, if you eat anything with a high amount of tomato (including pizza), and you get sick feeling and grab your side, you are most likely having gallbladder trouble.” After reading that, well you can imagine what I was thinking! I started researching gallstones, gallbladder disease, etc. I also found on Webmd that another symptom is chest pain that feels much like a heart attack.
I don’t think I mentioned it here(on my TR I mean) when it happened…but one day last month I had that very chest pain they describe, along with the stomach cramps. (stomach cramps started first, then the chest pain) Mike happened to have my car that day, and a coworker offered to drive me to the hospital if I needed. I kept thinking about the $$$ it would cost to go to the ER, and thinking that they probably would give me heartburn meds and send me home, and then with people at work telling me it was all in my head, it was just so many emotions. I decided I would try to stick it out til 3:00 when the After Hours clinic opened (did I mention my new PCP was on vacation?! Ugh!). By that time, the chest pain had subsided (I assume it was a gb attack and it finally passed) so I just kind of let it go. And said to myself that if it happened again in the future I would call my doctor. I just kept thinking about the money. If my doctor had been in town that day I would have gone to see him, and maybe he would have found out what was wrong? Who knows---it’s too late to think about that. But I’m going to find out NOW once and for all.
As soon as I read about all the symptoms and such, I called Monday and made an appointment with the GI doctor because my new insurance plan does not require a referral. The earliest they had was Wednesday (today) at 2:30. I took it, and explained that I’m coming in for my gallbladder, I want it tested. I don’t know what they will do today, but I have researched all the possible tests and I would like to have an ultrasound done TODAY. I just want this sucker OUT of me. I know in my heart and mind that it’s my gallbladder. I’m having all the symptoms. I’ve researched. I’m ready!
Here’s the catch. My boss goes on vacation next Wednesday (to WDW) and will be back on the 27th (day after Memorial day, which we have off already) I hear it takes at least 5 days for recovery (enough to drive/go back to work). So, unless I have the surgery TOMORROW, I will have to wait until the 26th (if they would do it on Memorial day) or the 27th. Unless they would do it on a Saturday, in which case I could do it on the 24th. I just can’t see that happening though. Now I just have to pray that it’s not an emergency situation—unless of course they find that out by tomorrow and can put me in for same-day surgery. If it happened this Friday, think I could be back to work by next Wednesday? I’m just really worried about the timing of all this—not the actual surgery. If it can wait, I guess I will survive---I’ve made it this long. I’d just have to be REALLY careful what I eat because I cannot risk having my gb burst or otherwise while my boss is out of town! No leafy greens or fattening food for me!
If anyone is interested, I already started a thread about this, so I could get others stories, opinions, and maybe help someone else who’s having this same problem. It’s certainly served its purpose. Here is the link to my ‘gallbladder thread’: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1823503
I will be leaving for the doctor in about an hour (want to get there at 2:15), and I really hope they can schedule me for the ultrasound TODAY. They send their patients to a diagnostic center across the street from the office. I asked the girl I talked to if they do same-day appointments and she said it depends how busy they are, and whether it’s an emergency or not. I will explain my situation with work, and maybe that will make them get on-the-ball with it. It can be a dangerous situation…too many attacks, and your gallbladder can burst. Please just pray for me if you’re the praying type. I just want results! I don’t feel very good right now. I’m getting nauseated again.
By the way, my Mom is coming with me. Actually I just found out a little while ago that my Dad is taking off of work early and coming too. They live about 40 minutes away, so I really appreciate them taking the time to do this for me. I need the support! And Moms are always so good at asking the right question—at least, mine is!
Sorry for the long story; and whoever is still reading, THANK YOU for sticking around. If I had my wish, the next time I talk to you I will be gallbladder-free. However I know that won’t be the case. That’s maybe like 1% of that happening. I just wanted to let y’all know what was going on with me in case I get really quiet for a while. Also, I’m pretty busy at work lately so I will try my best to get those updates I talked about up as soon as I can. If//When I have this surgery, I’ll have some extra time on my hands when I’ll be laying around, so I can work on all that.
I will let y’all know how the doctor’s appointment goes later on today! I'm very anxious!

Cheri- I hope your appointment goes well today. I'm sorry you have had so much trouble. Both my DH and I know how it feels to have doctor's not listening to you and constantly being misdiagnosed. Is it just me or has the healthcare gone way down in this area since the Hurricane? Funny you said that about Ochsner. Was it in Metairie? The Ochsner facility here is where we have our pediatrician and eye doctor and we find them both to be wonderful.
Anyway, know that I will be saying a little prayer for you and you will be on my mind today.

Oh sweetie!!! I am so sorry to hear about your medical problems!!! It is VERY difficult struggling with gallbladder issues--I have been there, done that, and thought I would give you my two cents if it helps at all. As I told you in my PTR, when I had Megs, I went into HELLP Syndrome and my organs failed and shut down--specifically my liver and kidneys. Apparently since the liver and gall bladder are so close together and function off of one another, it also somehow damaged the effectiveness of my gall bladder--long story short--I went through a year and a half of the same type of digestive/stomach problems after I had Megan, and then they finally took out my gall bladder in February 2005. They usually do the laprascopic procedure now--so it is usually an outpatient surgery. That part is good because you can come home and recuperate. BUT I will tell you that it IS still a surgery and does take a few days to recover. Some people give you a false sense that they had the surgery, and the next day were out shopping--but I don't think that is the typical case. It took me about 5-6 days to feel "better." Days 3 & 4 were the WORST of the recovery process--very sore and generally felt like I had been rolled over by a semi-truck! Take your pain meds, Gas-X pills, and stool softeners that they SHOULD give you before you leave the hospital--if not, the Gas-X and stool softeners are OTC that Mike can get for you--they are LIFESAVERS!!! They first gave me Percocet--AWFUL!!! I got so constipated and "bound up" I was in more pain from that then recovering from liver failure and an emergency C-section. I did very well with Vicodin--didn't cause any constipation. I do feel a LOT better--I too was SO SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED (if you know what I mean!!!) So that has drastically improved my stomach problems. I will tell you that you may still have some difficulty digesting nuts--like peanuts, pistachios, cashews, etc. so try to only eat small doses of them at a time! If you have any other questions, you know you can always ask me kiddo!! I really do hope you feel better!!! It is no fun having to live through this!!! Jen

You know me...not the praying type. But, I'll make an exception for you. I know that if you know that's what it is and you accept it, you're ready for whatever they tell you. Not sure how I'll get it to ya  , but I'm here for ya.

Honey...I am so sorry.
I went throught the same thing and had mine out. Luttuce was a big one for me too. I "felt" better after my surgery, but I still have a lot of difficulty. PM if you need anything!
thanks! I think I will benefit from having it removed. I'll update on the doc in my next post.
Anyway, know that I will be saying a little prayer for you and you will be on my mind today.
thanks!
It was Oschner in Hammond. I really did like the Doc. Too bad the staff sucked.
I do love Oschner in Metairie.
will tell about the dr visit in next post
Jen
thanks SO much for the tips! I hope I can get this surgery, and I hope everything works out as smoothly as possible!
I am thinking of you cheri and I hope your appt goes well a nd they figure out exactly what is wrong with you and get you on the road to recovery today:hug:

Okay..I'm probably going to forget a lot, but I'll try to recap as best as I can. First of all, I had to fill out paperwork AGAIN even though it wasn't my first visit. They said every 12 months, and I apparently JUST hit the 12 month mark. Then, I had to wait over an hour to get to see the doctor. Mom and Dad were with me so we talked about stuff, mainly my symptoms, and I had brought some of my research with me to show them, so we had that to look over. Mom read all of it herself. She loves reading stuff like that.
I told the doctor everything I could think of. He didn't seem to like the fact that I went in with my own "diagnosis." So he came up with something else to test me on as well: Celiac disease. I was able to get that bloodwork done shortly after the appt. to get it over with. Just to appease him I guess! :confused3
Here are the highlights:
My mom said she was shocked they didn't test my gb last year. He said "she didn't have any symptoms that pointed to the gallbladder" Okay, Can you say COP OUT?!
When I told him about the lettuce and stuff, he said something about maybe catching a "bug" ---a 2 year bug? geez! I explained to him that this was NOT the first time I have seen it come out whole. It has happened for a while now, but that this is the first time I researched it to find that it was actually a symptom for something. He didn't really have much to say to that.
The best part was when he said something along the lines of: "not all your symptoms point to gall bladder" like he just WANTED to prove me wrong. Hmm...I wanted to say: Okay, if I came to you with a broken toe, it's purple, it hurts, it won't bend, but my finger is hurting too, are you going to say "well, not all your symptoms point to a broken toe" ? My point is, not everything has to be related. I just simply wanted to give him as much information as I possibly could. He really ticked me off, but he did say he "wants to get the gall bladder checked out" so he ordered an ultrasound and I called in between there and running over to the place to do the bloodwork. They had Friday morn available, which I can't do b/c of work. :sad2: And they had Saturday at 9 AM so I took that, and my cousin is going to go with me since Mike is working. The only thing I have to do is fast from midnight the night before. No problem at all.
Referring to the chest pain, he prescribed me Aciphex because I might have acid reflux/heartburn. (C'mon doc, I know what heartburn feels like and that was NOT it. Felt more like a heart ATTACK. Seriously! I just took the little samples and smiled and nodded because I was getting what I wanted ultimately (the ultrasound). If he had written me a prescription for acid reflux pills I would have told him to go ___ himself! (fill in the blank!)
I just hope the US shows something, so that I will have quick results, and not have to wonder anymore. I don't want to have to take the HIDA. And if so, I don't want to have to beg him to give me the HIDA scan. If that's what it takes though, I will demand it.
If I think of anything I missed, I will come back and let y'all know.
Saturday just can't get here fast enough for me!!! :yay:

I posted a reply on your gallbladder thread, so you can read that too. Don't let those Dr's make you feel like you're an idiot. If you don't get the answer you want from this guy, find someone else who will listen to you. We've all seen the shows on tv where Dr's didn't listen and people had to search for Drs who would take the time to find out what's wrong. It's not the flu and unless you've become alergic to lettuce, something is wrong. Keep up the fight.

Sorry if I made anyone worry! Those of you that are reading my (still-going) Sept 07 TR will have already seen this same update, so no need to read ahead.
So I had the US yesterday morning, and by the way, it HURT! I had no idea they had to push THAT hard. I just had to keep thinking, this is for a good reason, this is for a good reason. I could see the screen at an angle if I craned my neck just the right way. The screen was on my right so when I had to turn on my left side so she could look at the gb from that angle, I was looking practically behind me. That part really hurt by the way.
After all that, I sure hope they saw SOMETHING that will give me answers once and for all!
I did ask the Ultrasound tech if she sees anything, and she kept telling me she was not allowed to say anything. After she was done, I said, "sure you can't tell me ANYTHING?" and she was VERY reluctant but said "well, the radiologist has to read it, but as far as I can tell, you're fine"
So more than likely there are no stones (at least I can be pretty certain I'm definitely not FULL of them)
Afterwards my mom was speaking to her friend who recently had her GB out (and she had all the same symptoms as me including the lettuce) and she said the Ultrasound tech told her the same thing but the Radiologist read it and said it was dysfunctional. So I guess I can't go by what the Tech said.
I will call the doctor Monday and make an appointment to get my results. When I saw him Wednesday, he had said "Have these done, and come back and see me in 2 weeks." So, I will see if they happen to be open on Memorial Day since I'm off. That would be perfect. And I will try to get it in the morning. If I get the first appt there is less chance I would have to wait like I did last time.
I'm assuming he will call me if he gets the results and decides he wants to see me sooner?
Well, I just hope the rest of this goes smoothly.
I am sorry it took me this long to update, but I had some sad news night before last that my grandma got in a bad wreck and is in Intensive Care now. She broke her neck and may be paralyzed from the chest down for the rest of her life. I visited her yesterday, and it was not easy seeing her like that and holding her hand when she couldn't even feel me touching it.
Can this month get any crazier? (maybe I shouldn't be asking that:confused3 )
I got to hang out with my cousin yesterday, so that was the better part of my day. We were on a mission to find some dressy sandals for the dress she is wearing to her son's Kindergarten graduation this week. We did find them. And I got some really nice LSU shirts for a great price. And new sunglasses since mine just broke this week. Shopping is therapy, I tell ya. Oh we also had IHOP for breakfast after my appointment. I was pretty hungry by then.
Mike and I also saw that movie 'What happens in Vegas' since we had bought the tix the night before (the theater was too full so we couldn't see it Friday). It was pretty good.
So that's it for now! Hope y'all are still sticking around..

I called the doctor's office again today, and left a message for the nurse. Even though they say strictly that they will not give test results over the phone, I really just wanted to know if mine were in. I figured the Ultrasound results would be in, but not the Celiac.
Well, she told me the results anyway. She said "the Ultrasound was normal" :sad2:
Now I have to try and get this HIDA scan done next week! I tried to get in to see the doctor for this afternoon but they were booked. I am going to call and hope for a cancellation for the morning of the 28th, so I can get an EARLIER appointment. Right now it's scheduled for 3:15 on the 28th and I have a day off to use next week so I picked that day. If they can get me in earlier, at least I'd have a better chance of getting the HIDA scheduled for the next day.
This is VERY disappointing news for me, as I was hoping to not have to do any more tests. I have been miserable for the past week, and today proves to be no different. I ate a few pieces of seedless watermelon this morning, and my stomach has been upset since then. Basically, anything I eat messes with me, so I don't eat much---and when I do eat, I get full VERY quickly.
I'm 5'0 and 110 pounds(just lost 5 pounds over the past couple days) but at this rate I'll be 100 pounds by my doctor's appointment next Wednesday. I don't know how much more of this I can take!!
They BETTER do the HIDA scan! And if that doesn't show something, I just don't know what I am going to do. I can't imagine that my gallbladder is even working at ALL right now. I've been having almost constant pain in my back, shoulder, and just below my ribs in the front.
What else could it be? I have ALL the symptoms of gallbladder dysfunction.

I know we have been talking about this through email but I just wanted to say again that I am still praying for you. I know you will persist and make sure you find out what is wrong even if you have to force them to do so but it sucks that you are suffering so much in the mean time. You need a ton of hugs so I will give you how many the smiley police will allow

You can not continue like this.
I would seriously go to the ER at a good hospital.
Try one more time to get in earlier, start bawling, telling them you are in so much pain. Please see me.
If that doesn't not work, then go to ER.......

I agree with Sharky, if they give you problems with the HIDA or do not help you out after that...you need to find a new doctor. This is just unacceptable. You are losing too much weight and cannot go on like this. Do they understand how seriously sick you have been? I'm so sorry
I hope my post doesn't sound mean but I am getting mad at your Doctor

Well, my doctor's appointment couldn't have gone better! Not only did I get to go 2 hours earlier than planned, I also was the ONLY person in the waiting room! (as opposed to last time, when Mom and I took the last 2 seats out of about 50!) The woman at the desk told me "Well, there's only one doctor here today" and I said "well, there were just 2 here last time and the waiting room was full" (I'd expect the waiting area to be HALF full this time, unless it's because the OTHER doctor HIGHLY OVERBOOKS) but...I didn't argue further, I was just glad to be the only one there!
This doctor was SO much nicer, and much more compassionate and caring than the first. He looked through my file, and read my ultrasound, came back fine just like the NP at my PCP's office said. He decided to order a Gastric Emptying Scan for me, after I told him I hadn't been eating much lately and I get full really fast. He asked me some questions, the main one being "So, what would you say is the worst, most bothersome symptom you are having" and I told him it was the rib/chest pain that radiates into my shoulder---which led to me telling him the story about the BAD chest/back pain that felt like I was being pushed between 2 walls (like a heart attack) and as soon as I said that he also said he wanted to order a HIDA scan w/ EF. He asked me if I knew what that was...and I almost played it off ;) I told him I'd heard of it...and that a friend recommended I get one.
I was thrilled when I called the diagnostic center and was able to schedule the HIDA scan for this Friday at 10:00!!! The Gastric Emptying scan will be done next Tuesday (but I may have to change it to Wednesday due to work scheduling).
Thank you for all your prayers. I was praying so hard that I'd be able to have the scan done this Friday, and now I can rest easy that I am gonna get it done before the weekend!!

I had the HIDA scan this morning, went back to work for an hour, and I'm home now.
It took about 2 hours for the whole thing. It was a bit uncomfortable, and I felt some pain, but nothing unbearable. I think the hardest part was staying still while I felt so much pressure on my right side. I couldn't talk, either. :scared1: The tech couldn't tell me anything, but my gallbladder took nearly a full hour to "show up" on the screen as the big machine was taking pictures. He said if it DIDN'T show up at all in the first part of the test, that would mean it was not working AT ALL (0%) and they would not do the CCK. (Which by the way, is what I had---so EF must be synonymous with the term EF, or Ejection Fraction)
So, like I said, it eventually showed up. After about an hour and 15 minutes, they started the CCK injection. That would test the function of my gallbladder. It was put in through the IV, and took about 30 minutes. They took pictures the whole time, and when the drip was done, they stopped the test and said I was finished. The radiologist is to interpret the results today, and the results will be sent to my doctor within 24 hours. The other test results--for the one I am having done Tuesday (gastric emptying test)--will be dealt with in the same way, which is why I don't understand the "2 week" rule. I can understand 2 weeks for bloodwork, but the hospital guarantees results of radiology tests within 24 hours, so it makes no sense.
I asked if I could get a copy of everything, and they said I could get it tomorrow or Monday. I doubt that means I would know my results, because they probably will just give me pictures. They also can put everything on disk, so that is pretty cool.
I am feeling the typical side/back pain now, I guess that stuff they put in me, and lunch are still passing through. Other than that, everything's okay. I feel so much better(mentally) now that I've gotten this test over with. We'll see what happens soon!
I made a follow-up appointment at 1:15 at the 2 week mark, which is Friday the 13th (how quaint ) which happens to be the day before my birthday --and I was taking off to do something fun with Mike (he works on my bday). We will probably end up at the Mall of Louisiana or go somewhere in New Orleans to do some shopping after my appointment. I've got to do something fun, and eating is not so fun for me anymore. So shopping it is! I plan on having a nice post-birthday/post surgery?? meal when I feel up to it.
I'd love to go to Le Cellier........but that will have to wait til September!! (haven't listed my ressies yet but OF COURSE I am going there ;) )

I've really noticed it since she's been grounded. She'll never get un-grounded with her attitude.:)

If you are talking about the stuff they use for a cat scan, that comes out in your underwear and feels warm like pee, no. :rotfl2: It mimics eating a nutrient enriched meal for your gb so they can test how fast your gb empties over a 30 minute period of time. Then they will come back with a % of how much my gb is actually working.
I hope not!! A woman just posted on my trip report that her daughter had a HIDA scan and the radiologist would read it the same day, and they told her she might be able to get the results that same day. But she said they were all tired and she'd wait til Monday.
So I'm wondering if our hospital does the same thing. If I get the copies and the disk they told me about, maybe it will have a Radiologist report as well.
My thoughts on that are: I doubt it, BUT if the copies are intended so that people can give them to their doctor in case they change dr's, then could the doctor interpret it like a radiologist can?? If not, then the copies would need the radiologist interpretation in order to serve the purpose of "RESULTS" for doctors to have on file. Am I making sense?

I know I'm overdue posting pictures of the Florida and Texas trips (don't have too much to post for the Texas trip, just a few) and I promise I will not forget about those, because there's some cool stuff!
I just took pictures of my hair after I got it trimmed and highlighted, and I figured I would post them here. (I already got one request...you know who you are)
I had to take them myself since hubby is at work, so they didn't come out great but you can see my blonder hair.
This one was taken without the flash and is kinda blurry when larger so I made it a little smaller than normal
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/P1010139.jpg
I took one with the flash which I think is a little bright but it's bigger so here:
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/P1010138.jpg
So...too blonde? Just right? Whaddaya think?
~~
While I was at it, I figured I'd take a picture of the hair products I bought. I bought the two products she used on me today, one for putting in wet hair, and one to put in dry hair, that tames fly-aways.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/P1010140.jpg
If anyone is interested, the first product is by Brocato, from their Blonde Swell line, and it's called "Fat Hair Clay" It's used for building body in fine (blonde) hair and only need about a dime sized bit in wet hair.
(I'm ready for my close up Mr. Deville)
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/P1010142.jpg
It was $16, expensive in relation to regular store products, but it smells great, makes my hair look great, and is a special TREAT in my opinion!
The other product is Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum, to tame flyaways. You only need a tiny dot of this, according to my hair dresser. She said this tiny bottle ($6 by the way) should last me about 6 months! $1 a month isn't so bad!
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/P1010143.jpg
(the small print at the bottom says "Smooths and conditions")
I am excited about my hair cut, and very excited about my new products! It's like having new toys! I figure if she used these very same things on me and my hair looks this great, I wanted them too! If only I could bottle my stylist so I could REALLY get this same great look every day! :rotfl:

Yes, that made sense. I don't know why doctors would have to have a second opinion from a radiologist. Aren't doctors supposed to be able to interpret those things, too?

I am not sure. I know they can look at ultrasounds and see what's wrong. But I am not sure about the HIDA scan. The CCK part takes pictures as the stuff is emptying out of the GB, and I am assuming that when the pictures are taken, there's some sort of timestamp from beginning to end. Then they can see how much actually emptied out in that 30 minute period. I don't know how fast a "normal" gallbladder would empty it, but I think if the pictures are clear enough, any doctor(esp. GI) should be able to judge how long it took and come up with a percentage. I'd still like to think that I can get that information from the hospital, or somehow, before the 2 week appointment is here on the 13th. That's SO long to wait, when I KNOW the results are probably already in the fax machine at the dr's office.
June 4th...ssshhhh!!!;)

:rotfl2: just kidding! Mine is 10 days after yours. Flag day!
Thank you! After summer I will get more lowlights put back in, but for now I figured why put any dark in when the sun will just bleach it out anyway, especially if I swim a lot. Oh BTW, one of Mike's coworkers offered to give us his 4 foot pool if we go take it down ourselves. I am not looking forward to that part, but we might take him up on that. Mike wants to build a deck around it if we get it, but I said I think that part would have to wait til NEXT summer. He always wants to take on SO MUCH at once, and that means everything will end up half-done, or done sloppily--and I'm not for that!
Yeah, it does smell like watermelon! Yum! The Brocato stuff smells like....Froot Loops!! :lmao: I couldn't place the smell, but then the other stylist said Froot loops and it hit me! Good thing I like froot loops!!

That night Jerry grilled burgers outside, and they were SO delicious.
In Disney fashion, I wanted to take pictures of some of the food. But I was really hungry so I only got a picture of my plate AFTER I ate what I could. It looks too “messy” to post. It wouldn’t be nice of me.
Here are the burgers that were left on the serving plate

:rotfl:
I think you look FABULOUS!!! I think it is just the right amount of blonde. Your stylist did a great job. I always buy what my stylist puts in my hair too  I have used the Paul Mitchel stuff before and it works great! :goodvibes

Update coming by the way...got some news.

Hey everyone, I'm copying this straight from the update I made on my gallbladder thread, so there's some technical stuff, but hey maybe you will find it interesting.
I have some news. I managed to get the results of my HIDA scan from the hospital. The results follow:
DOSAGE: 4 mCi Tc 99m Choletec and 60 minutes following the isotope injection, there was a 30 minute infusion of a solution containing 1 mcg of Kinevac.
FINDINGS: No similar comparison study. The initial images demonstrate relatively prompt excretion of isotope from the liver into the biliary tract with flow first into the intestinal tract and then next into the gallbladder. After the infusion of the Kinevac, there is satisfactory gallbladder contraction, with 17% emptying at 10 minutes, but 88% emptying at 20 minutes and 96% emptying at 30 minutes.
IMPRESSION: Normal HIDA biliary scan with Kinevac. Satisfactory prompt gallbladder visualization and subsequent pharmacologic gallbladder contraction.
Honestly, I'm shocked. The test was painful and uncomfortable, and it still turned out normal.
Now, the other part of this news is that I had my Gastric Emptying Scan today. For that test, I had to eat some grits that had radioactive material in them. Then they used the same machine as the HIDA scan to take pictures of the food in my stomach. They said it could take up to 90 minutes, and it did.
I don't have definite results yet, but the food didn't seem to move very much at all. So the 2 techs that were there both said "That must be your problem" because they kept looking at the screen and the stomach is the only part that stayed lit up. The tech that released me said the radiologist would be reading it "within the next hour" and my doc would have the results TODAY. She said I should call the doctor TOMORROW and bug them to get me in sooner. (I told her my appt was next Friday)
I am also still waiting on results from the bloodwork I had done by order of the NP I went to a couple weeks ago. If I tested positive for H Pylori, then that would explain the slow stomach emptying. I talked to one of the people in the office today, and she said someone should have called me by now. She apologized said someone would be calling me tomorrow to give me my results over the phone.
What an eventful couple of days it has been! I still feel terrible. I still have pain in my right side, and I don't know why the stomach (left side) would cause pain in my right side. I will have a ton of questions for my doctor when I see him next!
If anyone is still reading, do you have any input at all? I'd love to hear comments, advice, ANYTHING. I'm at a point where just a smile or some encouragement would help. Why can't this be easier?

I went to the hospital and got the results myself! I've learned that is the way to do it if you want answers. What a shame I have to pay for something that my doctor already has and should call me with. (It's only $1 since it's one page but it's the principle of the matter!)
here are the FINDINGS:
A time activity curve was generated. The T-1/2 emptying time of the stomach is approximately 477 minutes. This is significantly delayed. The findings are consistent with delayed gastric emptying. This may be related to gastric outlet obstruction or gastroparesis. Clinical correlation is recommended.
so the final IMPRESSION: Delayed Gastric Emptying
477 minutes! That's 8 hours!! :faint: No wonder I feel so horrible!
The "normal" emptying time is 60 minutes---which means my stomach is emptying 8 times slower than it should be. That seems pretty severe to me!! I just hope they can find out what is causing my stomach to be so slow! (Gastroparesis just means the stomach doesn't contract like it is supposed to) I know I didn't have any obstructions last year, because they would have seen it on the endoscope--so unless I've developed some type of obstruction over the last 15 months, it can't be a blockage.
Has anyone ever had this or known someone who has? I'd love to be able to hear people's experiences with this. (Should I start another thread to gather some people who have had gastric emptying problems?)

I forgot to add that I called the GI doctor to ask them if they had the results and the nurse called me back, saying that he should look at them this afternoon. She said if he feels it is urgent, he will call me. I told her, I hope he does, because I feel terrible.

That is some slow emptying rate. That is the half-life value, which means that after 477 minutes only half is emptied, then after 2 times 477 (954 minutes) 1/4 still remains, and so forth and so on. It takes ~ 6 half lives for something to be considered practically depleted. [why do i know this? b/c i am a radiological engineer and deal with this stuff on a daily basis; biokinetics is my gig]
I am very happy for you that you FINALLY know what is the source of your problems. It must feel good (mentally) to know that they have finally found what is wrong. Now the question is: what is the treatment for the condition and is it something chronic or acute. I hope the condition is fixed asap so that you can feel better.

Thank you for that information! (I knew someone could interpret that better than I can! :thumbsup2 ) I didn't realize you were a radiological engineer! How cool!
So that's the HALF life huh? That is crazy! You are right..that is SOME SLOW!
I'm happy too, and yes mentally it feels good, but I wish that my darn doctor would call me now! His last appointment should have been at 3:15, so I'm holding out hope that I'll receive a phone call within the next hour or at least sometime today (I'd assume before 5)
Man, I wish I knew what the treatment is...I'm trying to read up on the topic and it seems if they can't find a deeper problem (what is actually CAUSING the slow emptying), then they can give me medicine (Reglan) for it. But Reglan is dangerous if taken when you have an obstruction--so I might need another upper GI first. If there's a blockage, they will remove it, and that would be my problem. If not, I assume they will start me on the meds in hopes that it will fix the problem.
I'm glad you finally know what's going on. So, what happens now?
Thank goodness you are getting closer to the problem. I'm like Tat...what are they going to do next???
Well, I'll have to see what the doctor says. Like I said above, hoping he calls me today!

I know what you mean. I don't think I would have liked Chance if we hadn't waited a couple of months to get a new dog.
A week is not bad. I was shocked with Merlin yesterday. He is doing surprisingly well! He even tried to "show his dominance" if you know what I mean. So I had to stop him. But strangely, I knew it was a good thing because it meant he is okay with him now. (He wouldn't go near him before. And he and Coal used to show their dominance in that way all the time...I hated it)
thanks! DH will be doing most of that!!

You have to continue to post pictures of him changing since it happens so fast! Merlin will come around, I'm sure he's confused a little right now  Congrats!!!!
thank you! :cutie: Mike has wanted one for a long time. I will definitely post pictures. I am sure I will be taking a lot.
yes, he's already doing better. :goodvibes

Hey all,
I had to go to the ER yesterday. I woke up yesterday feeling pretty bad. I felt very nauseated, stomach hurting. The nausea was the worst part. I ended up leaving work after only being there for 2 hours. I came home and tried to rest. But then the vomiting started (sorry). I couldn't hold down water! I just kept throwing up, but there was nothing in my stomach so it was all acid, and eventually yellow bile. I eventually had to call Mike home from work and he took me to the hospital. Well, he drove me to the GI doctor first, because he wanted to insist they give me medicine or something. He is just as upset with them as I am, for letting this get to THAT POINT.
They put in an IV and gave me fluids, phenergan for the nausea, and demerol for the pain. The phenergan didn't help the nausea, so they gave me something else--don't remember what it was called but it worked. I told them about my Gastric Emptying problem, but they insisted on doing x-rays of my stomach, and bloodwork. Those all came back normal. I told the doctor yet AGAIN about my gastric emptying problem, so he looked up the test, then called my GI doctor. He prescribed Reglan (they gave me some through IV first), which will help the gastroparesis (will make my stomach contract like it's supposed to, to digest food), and also wrote an Rx for Lortab and Phenergan, should I need either of those.
I am home right now, but I may go into work in a little bit to put in a half day. I took a Reglan about a half hour before I ate some chicken noodle soup. I still got full pretty fast but I'm assuming that will take some time.
I am feeling okay right now. Thankfully both dogs are resting peacefully on the bed. Chance was whiney earlier, as pups usually are.
I still have my appointment tomorrow at 1:15, and the doctor will explain everything to me about the Reglan, etc. I will check in tomorrow sometime after that.
Thanks for all your prayers and encouragement!

That stinks! I hope you feel better soon.
thanks to both of you. And thank you to everyone who has stuck with me and sent prayers and encouragement. I appreciate everyone here so much!! I am taking the Reglan now, for my stomach. It seems to be working fine, but it makes me restless. And I still don't have all my strength back. I asked the doctor about the restlessness last Friday when I saw him, and he said that's pretty normal, and that it should go away in a couple of weeks. I find that if I take half my pain pill sometimes it will help to level me out. I don't want to "abuse" them but if it works, I will do it every so often. I just can't go on feeling this way 24/7. I hope it goes away soon!
Now, on a happier note...over the father's day/bday weekend, Mike and I did PLENTY of shopping. I will have to take some pictures of our purchases later and post them.
It was a very busy weekend in all. Friday morning, Mike mowed the lawn, I did some laundry and dishes and played with the dogs. Well, he did let me sleep in a little as a nice birthday present. We took Chance to the vet, and the vet said he is a healthy puppy! He got his first shot, and he did very well through the whole visit so I was such a proud Momma!!
After my doctor's appointment, we went back home to let the dogs out again, and then we were on our way to Metairie (New Orleans area with lots of businesses that we DON'T have in Hammond) to do some shopping.
We went to PetSmart…made a tag for Chance with his name on it, bought some dog treats and dog food. Luckily, the big bag of Science Diet was on sale! :woohoo:
Then, we went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I had a 20% off coupon for our WHOLE purchase (rather than the usual 20% off of one item) so I wanted to see what we could get. I bought something I've been wanting for a while now--a Kapoosh knife block
http://www.kapoosh.com/KapooshAdSteel.pdf
We got the stainless steel one to match all the rest of our countertop items (our appliances aren't stainless steel yet---but will be one day!)
I also got a nice soft bath rug for our bathroom. It was SO nice stepping out onto that rather than the cheapo one we had before.
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=14856161&RN=3&KSKU=112725
We went to Target and found those magic lids (I can’t recall what they are called now) on clearance for $5 for a set of 4. We bought them out of curiosity, and now I think we may have to get some more because they really do work!
We also went to the mall, where I bought a cute pink bra at Victoria’s Secret, and another something to “sleep” in. :lmao:
I don’t think I can post the links for those.
I stopped in Ann Taylor and was looking at the dresses on sale but was unsuccessful. I did, however, find a pair of jeans on sale for $50, but got 30% off for Friends and Family day (I asked the cashier if she had an extra coupon and she said she did!) so I paid $38 with tax.
I normally am pretty cheap and find my jeans for under $30 but I am just THRILLED with the way these fit! I love, love, LOVE them!! I will have to take a pic with them on next time I wear them. I wore them Saturday and the first thing my mom said was “Oh Cheri, you’re so SMALL!” I have lost about 10 pounds since I’ve been sick. And the new jeans(size 0) really showed it off. Obviously I’m not happy I was sick, but I admit I am happier with my figure now. The biggest difference is in my hips. Before I had gotten sick I think they had been GROWING like wildfire!
Believe it or not, that wasn’t all. We went to Sam’s Club and I got some Gain. We were supposed to be getting orange juice, snacks, etc. Well, that all changed when Mike saw the fountain. Yes, my friends, we bought a fountain. We are “those people” now. It was a floor model so it was significantly cheaper than regular price (60% cheaper to be exact) and since my husband is such an impulse buyer he just could not resist. I kept telling him he was completely nuts and he insisted on loading in the cart. I had to help for fear he would break the darn thing and we’d have to pay for it anyway!
Saturday my parents and younger sister came over and finally got to meet Chance. They were shocked that we got a new puppy, but excited for us. They were oohing and ahhing at him, and played with him a bunch, all the while sure to give the same amount of attention to Merlin.
We ate dinner at Cracker Barrel (breakfast foods are easy on my stomach) and went to Dillards afterwards. I have had a $25 gift card since Christmas, and finally used it…well, most of it. :lmao: I got 3 shirts and still didn’t exhaust it.
We also went to Walmart where my mom got a new Hoover vacuum, and I finally got a stainless steel bag holder (but ended up bringing it back yesterday because it was broken :headache:)
Yesterday (when I bought back the bag holder) I bought some bones and treats at Walmart with some Purina coupons I had, and found a few cute shirts for myself. 2 are just T-shirts (baby Winnie the Pooh, and baby Chip and Dale!) and 2 were nicer shirts, and the 4 of them were a total of $16.
So that was my weekend. Oh, almost forgot, I made some internet orders last week which arrived over the weekend. We got a new featherbed from Overstock, and I ordered a bunch of makeup from Ulta.com---the Bare Minerals starter kit, the Bare Minerals color kit, some Smashbox bronzer with a free eyeshadow trio, Too Faced Lash Injection mascara, and Too Faced liquif-eye (which lets you turn ANY eyeshadow into eyeliner—and works AWESOME!!)
Okay, so THAT was my weekend, purchases and all! You’d think I would be broke right now. Oh wait, I am!! :rotfl: :lmao:

O.K., let me just say that I don't even think my right arm is a size 0!:lmao: Good for you! I think I might have been a size zero in utero. I'm happy that your medicine is working for you. My husband really tried to not get addicted to pain pills after his accident, so I think you're doing the right thing by taking it easy. His doctors even gave him oxicotin! Man, that stuff is strong. He took one 20 min before a New Years Eve party and sat on the couch, looked at me and said "honey...I think I'm stoned!" We laughed so hard!
Hopefully your body will adjust to the meds that the doctors prescribed and at least you now have a diagnosis for your problem.
Happy shopping day!

that story is funny!
I'd like to say I'm getting used to it but I'm still not adjusted to these meds. I'm sure y'all have noticed I haven't been around as much lately, and the reason is because I am always so restless and unfocused, so I never feel like sitting on a computer. I'm here tonight because I was a bad girl and skipped tonight's dose. I know I probably shouldn't have but it's nice to feel NORMAL for a change!
Tomorrow I will be having my thyroid tested--specifically, TSH, T3, and T4. You may remember me mentioning having my TSH tested with the recent bloodwork they did, BUT I found out today that they never did test my TSH even though it was on the order!!! My mom asked if I had my T3 and T4 tested because the TSH can be perfectly normal but the others can be completely out of whack--so they are supposed to test all 3 (reminder: my mom has hypothyroidism so it's important for me to get tested every couple of years anyway). It may be the reason for my delayed gastric emptying, and why I've been so fatigued lately, as well as why I'm always so cold.
I'm hoping to find out the results this Friday. If it ends up being my thyroid, then I will most likely be put on synthroid and I probably will not have to be on Reglan anymore.
I will let y'all know what I find out.

The thing next to it is a timer that it's on. We still have to bury the wires under the ground but for now he's got the timer next to it and the cords on top of the grass running to the house.
We eventually have to put something in the planter on the top. I am thinking of doing something nice and bright. Any suggestions?
I'm relaxing on the bed, WITH the featherbed, finally. It is comfy! I don't think it's quite as thick as our old one, but it fits the bed nicely and feels just fine to me.

these two that follow are the 2 of the same exact style and were only $5 each

this one for wintertime
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/P1010246.jpg
this was just a cute t-shirt, very soft cotton, and comfy

and this one ties in the back (you can see the black strings that tie are just kinda laying there)

Hey CHER!!! I just happened to have a free moment and stopped on by to see how you are doing..Lots of changes I see! First off, congrats on the new puppy--my boxers name is Chance. LOVE your baby-he is going to be a BIG BOY! I want a GD but TC says we have to wait till we have a BIG house and a lot of land.. lol
Secondly, look at all your new purchases! I have been on a shopping spree kick lately also. Especially with vaca being only 2 months from TODAY (wow I just realized it!). We bought the Disney store out of Disney Dollars! All $400 they had between me and my best friend for the kiddos. WOOOPS!
Hope the new medicine works for you. I know how frustrating it is to have stomach issues and the Dr's just disregard it. Hopefully you'll be on the right track to feeling 100% yourself soon.
I really need to update my thread...I am SO lazy!

The big day of the crawfish boil was Saturday, April 26th (Boy am I a slacker!)
This post will be mostly pictures. We like pictures, don’t we. ::yes::
That morning, we woke up early to get ready for a LONG day. I went downstairs to have coffee, and relaxed with the rest of the women in the house, while the men were outside getting prepared for the boil. They had to get drinks iced down, do some yardwork, etc.
Eventually, I went outside and started fixing up the outside tables with tablecloths and paper towels.
Here’s my handiwork

At one point in the morning, Mike and I were both upstairs in our room, he was on the laptop and I went out on the balcony and saw…

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES800.jpg
I called Mike to the balcony in time to see it, but as I was trying to get another picture it drove away
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES801.jpg :(
Oh well, it was cool while it lasted.
Boil preparations were being made inside and out

Funny story about this okra…they weren’t supposed to get okra, but Jerry instructed whoever went to buy the veggies to get “Everything” so they pretty much got everything. LOL
You can’t put okra in a crawfish boil because it will get all slimy and be all over everything. So, they had all this okra, and the wife of the “Head crawfish boiler” knew how to make okra salad, so she decided to make it.
She made it, put it in the fridge…and by the time of the boil, she (and everyone else) forgot about it, so it never got eaten! :rotfl:

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES876.jpg
They were all put into the mesh bags so they could be put into the pots to boil.
If anyone reading this has been to a crawfish boil, you know they usually purge the crawfish first, but in this case, they put the icechests by the bay, and put a hose in there running constant water through. It worked really well though because those crawfish were CLEAN.

this is a great shirt
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES871.jpg
I just had to take a pic of this---they lost a dog years ago so that’s why they got this
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES847.jpg
Speaking of dogs, I think the preparations were wearing Puff out
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES849.jpg
I’ve got to throw in that picture again, it was just SUCH a beautiful day!
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES846.jpg
I took some cool close-up pictures of the veggies, and some of crawfish, that I want to compile into some type of abstract collage.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES879.jpg
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES880.jpg
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa247/cheri61482/Santa%20Rosa%20Beach/PICTURES885.jpg
And with that, I just realized that I am missing some pictures! :headache:
So I will have to finish this day when I can find the ones I am missing and put them into photobucket. I hope I can do that for y’all this evening!
BTW I had my bloodwork done today to check my thyroid, and I should have the results of those tests by Friday! Yippee!!

okay being from the north and only seeing pictures of a craw fish boil, i have a few questions.
Number 1, are those crawfish alive? when you put them in there.
number 2
i noticed many pots, does each pot get the same thing, just many pots because you had so much to boil?
number 3.
how many of those suckers do you usually eat, is there that much meat on them, and seems like a ton of them, are they expensive.
number 4, well more like number 6 since the last question had a few questions in it.
does that seasonig get put right in witht he water when it is boiling? or is that dry seasonings added afterwards.
okay that is all
i will be back tomorrow for your response, have a good night.

1) yes, they ARE alive when we put them in. We are torturing the poor things, how horrible of us. :bitelip:
2) We had a lot of pots because there was so much to boil. However, there was one pot full of veggies in this case, because of so many veggies. Normally, if you're only doing a sack or two of crawfish, you'd have one big pot, put the crawfish in first, then the veggies a few minutes later, depending on the type of veggies.
3) a. I can eat a few pounds of them. I'm sorry but I couldn't tell you how many that is. b. You only eat the tails of them. Some people suck the heads to get the juice out, and that is pretty good too. I prefer to suck from the claw because you get all the juice and none of the guts. c. They start out pretty expensive at the beginning of the season. Then they go down to about $1.50/pound boiled or 99 cents/pound live . Before Hurricane Katrina, we were getting them for 99 cents a pound BOILED. There are probably still some places you can get them at that price on special, but you have to keep an eye out.
4) the seasoning gets put in before you boil. Just for a little extra information, we put the crawfish in, let them come to a rolling boil, and usually turn them off at that point and they soak for at least 15 to 20 minutes. I'm sure people soak them at different ranges of time. The longer they soak, usually the spicier they are.
I hope I sufficiently answered your questions, and maybe I have educated lots other people in the process.
You won't be back til tomorrow? Guess you are busy now with little Parker...

oh another question I see :rotfl2:
They taste like crawfish. :lmao: Uhh...they taste like seafood...they are not fishy tasting. More like shrimp than anything else. I've tasted shrimp in the past that have tasted a lot like crawfish because they were boiled in a similar way.
Wow, you were busy while I was gone.:faint:

i see, tortue crawfish, gotcha, do they scream when they are being cooked.
I am guessing that it is not a knife and fork kinda thing, more like a chicken leg kinda thing...i bet you dont reheat them do you if you have any left over?
so you suck the meat out? they should make a movie on this it is fascinating me.
yep yo uanswered all of those questions, now help me out with those other ones.
taste like crawfish huh..:rolleyes1 i would try them, maybe i will have a boil in my backyard, how many do you think i could get in my soup pot.:thumbsup2
