Last post of the day...

I took the Princesses to the beach, so #1 could X-train for her triathlon in just 10 days. She swam and ran, but skipped the biking since we rode last weekend.

Anyways, I couldn't decide which of these two photos is more breath taking, so I posted both. :rotfl2::laughing::rotfl:

Susie - I went to hear Jeff last year and immediately joined the local Galloway group. He's entertaining and inspiring at the same time! I'll actually be at the local Galloway kickoff clinic with Jeff while all of you are at Minnie.

Howard - Hooray for Minnie! I know Cam is happy.

Craig - I forgot to add last night, but I agree with Mel. You, peripheral? Not in any sense of the word. Your posts are the highlight of the week, and definitely one of my motivations. Integral definitely!

Greetings TEAM: OK, I need to get back to my roots. I'm sorry I haven't posted in so long. My running has been sporadic, and my life has been crazy. Things have been turning around for me on the job front, and I'm interviewing for a new full time position at a neighboring college today (I actually had part of the interview yesterday). I jumped in here though because I definitely want to be a part of any discussion of where WISH is going in the future. I love this team, and it has been a very big part of my life.

HolyWISHpost batman...out of control...I just wanted to post my WO...

I had about a 12 hour day of counseling but did sneak over to the YMCA for a session with the dreadmill. It was raining (even though the weatherman said it wasn't) so I opted for indoors. Should have taken my chances outside. The run was crappy. Planned to do 5 but stopped at 3 (I NEVER cut a run short :headache: ). I was not in pain but noticed I was sweating more than normal. Around mile 2.85 I noticed I was lightheaded. I did not want to fly off the back of the DM so I bagged the run.
Did 3 in 24.36 min. I blame stress. Will go to the trails today and tri again b/4 work.

 to everyone feeling bad.

WTG Krista on feeling the baby move.

David Cook...Oh Yeah baby!

Yes I have a panda and all the WISH friends in my head, pushing me to do what I never thought I could.:cheer2: Thanks guys!

DAve - Soo good to see you! Seeing you extra pixie dust today!!!! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Craig - Peripheral member? I have always thought of you as our coach and figured you just had your fave running clothes and didn't want to stray. :confused3

Debra - I rested by going to dinenr with friends. WHile I ate way more than even the pg one, I was very healthy. FOrgive me for bnot resting properly with ice cream. ;) Wax on, wax off...rotfl! At package pickup for MArtian, dh adn I would sometimes get questions that we didn;'t know teh answer to and had to refer tehm elsewhere. After they were gone, we'd look at each other adn say "FIrst time you, first time me." BTW, since when is core adn light weights and stretching rest?

ZKevin - Safe travels home!

Solo - So good to see you!!! So sorry about teh dating pool. Got to be better than W. MI, though, yes? :grouphug:

Christa - Hope yu are feeling better today adnnot coming down with something. :wizard:

Mel - The best thing about doing races a mnonth a prat is a taper every month! :rotfl:

To Jackie adn ANgie and all of those who said they've never finished what tehy started: That is not the way I have ever seen you adn it shockes me to hear you say that. Just thought you'd like to know that the women I see are much more determined and courageous than teh people you see in teh mirror. A WISHer once shared this with me and I hope she doesn't mind me sharing.

You know what I WISH friends? I WISH that when we look in the mirror we could see what the rest of us see in each other. We are all beautiful, strong, loving, inspirational and accomplished women. But when we look in the mirror, I think most of us see flawed, weak, pudgy, and inferior girls. We need to see who we really are and celebrate our greatness.

ITA. I have never thought of you as a peripheral member. I figured you were like me, and just weren't comfortable running in the WISH gear. (not comfortable as in it irritates or chafes or something, not the other uncomfortable). You are a constant face (name) on this board, and are wonderful about supporting everyone. I would not have EVER thought to call you peripheral. Maybe Key Member is more like it!!

Kevin - CONGRATS!! What great news!!

Maura, how cool is that about your MT? Definitely good karma for sure!

Martha, that is such a great story about the CMs applauding you!! I got goosebumps!

Debra, ooooh - team pressure!! You know how to dish it out, girl! ;) I don't blame you for wanting to stay drama free. I (thankfully) cut out the drama-mongers in my life a long time ago!

OhioKim, hello and welcome!! Always great to have another Buckeye!

Kira, keep it up, the trails will get easier!!

Frank, are you trying to kill me? :rotfl: Seriously though, that zoo hill is infamous! I don't think I'm there yet, but thanks for the suggestion! I did know about Mayor DePiero's 5k but we'll be in WDW then. Actually, one of my good friends placed 1st in her age div in that race last year.

Carrie, I LOVE that quote!! So very true...

Me.. yesterday was XT day so I did the recumbent and then went home and decided to use up the leftover frozen shrimp so I went all Paula Deen and made beer battered shrimp and onion rings. Oh so healthy! We also watched the first Live Aid dvd.. that was such a blast from the past.. back in the days when Phil Collins still had hair!

Just checking in for the day.

Kevin/Z--WOO HOO!!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: Lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for safe travels home!!

Craig--If you are a peripheral part of the Wish team, then I'm Heidi Klum! You are a very integral and valuable part of our team and I, for one, am so glad and thankful that you are here!

TX Ang--I may or may not have stayed up until almost midnight working on my scrapbook last night. :rolleyes1 The ideas were flowing and I didn't want to go to bed! I have one more page to scrap of the marathon and then I will post pics of the Expo and marathon portion I've done so far. Have you booked your DL trip yet? ;)

Debra--Methinks you don't know what the word "rest" means. ;) To me rest is laying on the couch and watching television all night maybe with a bowl of ice cream or cereal.

Kristi--I was thinking last night about and your running slump and it reminded me that in August I went through a pretty bad running slump where I didn't want to do anything and ended up not running the Columbus marathon that I planned on running. And then I got to thinking that 3 months after the start of my slump, I got pregnant. :thumbsup2

Dave--I am so glad that you popped in. I've been thinking a lot about you lately and wondering how you are doing. Major :wizard: for today and for everything that's going on. We miss you!!

Howard--Yay for Minnie!!!! I think Cam is the best, but I know you know that. :)

Kevin/Solo--So good to see you back here!!

Kim--I didn't realize you were new to the area. Where did you move from? And I can't believe you ran a half pregnant. :worship: I was signed up to run the half this past January, but had to skip it as I was 10 weeks pregnant and my doctor didn't want me to.

Christa--Sorry that your run stunk. :wizard: for a better run today!

Carrie--I love that quote!!!!!!! I think that needs to be tattooed on every young girls hand so they are reminded again and again just how beautiful and strong they are. It made me think of something one of my girls in the Sunday School class I teach said. They are 2nd graders and I passed out candy to people who brought their Bible or offering, she said, "I don't want a piece, it will make me fat". A 2nd grader worrying about getting "fat"!!! I told her I never want to hear that come out of her mouth or anyone else mouth ever again.

Mel--I've noticed that Carter pretty much stays on the left side of my body, so I will definitely be lopsided when he gets bigger.

Scott--

I'd love to sit and chat, but today is my Friday and I have a lot to get done before 5:00. I'll be back later!!

Cosi Bella - FItting in the runs are hard. Once you make the time, though, you just get used to it after a while. I miss my SAturday runs now if I don't get tehm in. Trust, those were the hardest fro me to fit in and I never thoguth I'd miss them. Do you have a SNap FItness? FOr a gym, they are pretty reasonable. Then again, mnay could justify teh cost of a TM if that's all you would use teh gym for. We do our runs outsides as much as possible, but that gets hard int eh winter. Any chance you could get your fiance to run with you? If not, please make sure you find a safe place to run adn take any necessary precautions (pepper sray, ear phones tha tlet you hear teh surroundings, etc)

Thank you for the great advice! I am seriously considering investing in a tm for the days I can not run outside. I just HATE tms! I feel like a hamster running on a wheel trapped in a cage! Its terrible. BUT, if I must, I WILL! I will MOST certainly be safe when running. My neighborhood is terrifically safe and just last night on my way home from work I mapped out a route that is 1.5 miles long... if i run that loop a few times I can get in some serious miles every day! I will be looking online today for pepper spray though, as you just never know in this crazy world. Dogs scare the crap out of me too! and I've had some scary close calls with some nasty dogs, so I'm not taking any chances! I can usually get my fiance to rollerblade along side me when the weather is nice. Even though I'm afraid of dogs, sometimes I wish I had a nice big one to run with for protection. Thanks again for the advice!!! :)

curiouser, kzmarathon, RedDragon, MouseDogMom, TXAng- thanks for the welcome wishes!! I feel SO incredibly welcome here and its only been a couple of days! Everyone here is so nice, I'm so glad I found a huge group of people who love running as much as me!!

Cosi Bella--So glad that you are able to hook up with a charity group and run the half that way. It stinks that it filled up so fast this year! Congrats again on your upcoming wedding and for getting back into running. I hear ya on finding time to train. I'm not really training right now (I'm 5 months pregnant), but I've run 4 half marathons and 1 full, plus I'm running the half in January, so I know how hard it is. I do all of my training on my own, my husband Stephen (skfulkers on the boards) runs too, but we run at different paces, so we never train together. I run almost exclusively in my neighborhood, so there is a since of safety there, plus I take my dog with me, so that helps. As far as getting the runs in, what helps me is planning out a schedule and hanging somewhere I see it all the time, so I know I have to get my runs whether it's right after work outside or later in the evening on the treadmill. I hope that your fiance is supportive of your running and training, it's a thousand times easier when your SO is on board with the training and understands. Let us know if you need any help!

I know, I wish that I could have registered through Disney for the half, I was amazed that when I looked into it a few weeks ago that it was already closed. I'm extremely nervous about running for a charity. I looked into some of the ones listed on Disney's website, and they all require you to raise AT LEAST $1,200 dollars (that was the lowest one I saw). I just don't think that I could do that. Would it be terrible of me to register for the race through a company like Anthony Travel!?!? I feel like I would be copping out and cheating! :( This is really upsetting. I could still raise money on my own and then make a donation to a charity after the race! This is stressful. I haven't picked a charity yet because I really don't think I'd be able to raise THAT much money only because of the crappy economy and peoples limited funds! What to do, what to do. I am going to make a post of my running plans, but I really do need help! I am not sure what goals to set for myself in order to be able to complete the 13.1 miles on race day... more to come. Thanks for the help and words of advice and encouragement! it is so greatly appreciated!!:)

Cosi Bella - :welcome: :welcome: If you are in the Waterbury area check out RetroFitness. Kareneast (DW) and I belong to one in NJ. It runs $20.00 a month. I think we paid a $50 join-up fee. Only a 1 year contract and we were able to transfer to the new one that opened 6 miles from our house. Their website is http://www.retrofitness.net.

John

Thanks John! I am near the waterbury area and I will definitely check out RetroFitness! thanks for the link.! :)

Cosi Bella: What a great background on "Why (You) Love Running." I think how people fit running into their schedules differs person to person. I'm a morning person, myself, and have access to a TM in the dark/safety/rainy weather issues and to a DH who nags me into getting up. Other people are more self-motivated, like you sound. We do invest in the gym for the TM access, but also for the weight training & XT opportunities. I've found that the expense "forces" us to try XT in order to get our money's worth--in turn, I'm a stronger person & (hopefully) a better runner. Like I said, everyone is different, so let us know what works for you!

Thanks!! :cool2: I'm really considering buying a treadmill when the fall rolls around so that I can continue to run and train. Its just those dang treadmills are so constricting for me! Ahh, i hate it. I will have to make due though. I am extremely self motivated (although it ALWAYS helps to have a friend say "You can do it!") so I see no problem reaching my end goal... I just think I really need some help in the beginning to get a training schedule and some motivation/encouragement that I really can run 13.1 miles! It doesn't seem long, but I'm sure once I'm out there its going to seem like forever! :goodvibes

OK, and now down to the nitty gritty:

Training. Here is what I know I want to start out with:

Since I have been out of running for a while, I want to start slow. BUT, I know my body and I know I can get into shape quickly. I'm thinking of running three miles a day, very easy... maybe some walking mixed in there. That's going to be the easy part. I hope to get back into my old form of running 5 miles a day in about a month. I know from past experience I can do this! that's my goal for the next four weeks. Get there. Or close...

After that, I'm stumped! I want to do this healthily, and safely. I DO NOT want to get injured, so my question to you all is: what sort of goals (distance wise) should I be setting up for myself over the next eight months so that on race day, I can do this half marathon? Should I set goals such as: 8 miles by a certain month, 10 miles by a certain month, and 13 miles by the end? How often should you do a "long" run, when should I first try 13 miles, or should I not try it at all and save it for the race day?? Oh geez, what did I get myself into?? Will I be able to do this!?! I'm young, so I have that going for me, and not overweight, so that's a plus too! no bad knees (knock on wood) or foot problems (again, knock on wood), so really the only hurdles I face are the actual training goals themselves. Any advice/help is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks for listening everyone!! I'm going to do a google search now for "marathon training" and see what I can come up with. :thumbsup2

Hockeychic - Hi!

Christa - Stress and emotions have a TON to do with how well the workouts go IMO. You were smart to bag it at 3. Good luck this morning, I hope it goes much better for you today!!

MSDave - The legend has returned! Welcome back, good to see you on the thread again :)

TXAng - Anyway you can lump in your trip with Sean to DL in with the DL half??

Carrie - How are you doing today Carrie? (NOT gonna jinx you today!!)

Howard - Hello! Glad to see you'll be at the Minnie Weekend...I know it's for the girls, but it'll be cool to have yet another guy there as well

Susie - Good luck this weekend at the OKC Half! Don't wear yourself out too much for the Minnie events...sure to be an awesome weekend!

disneyluv - 3.5 is certainly in the realms of building up a good base!

Jackie - Wow...hiking up mountains, seeing awesome waterfalls...sounds like a great afternoon! Good luck this Sunday with your 5k...hope the ankle feels good :)

Angie - How 'ya feeling today? You are being really smart with the rest here lately, I'm proud of you!

Debra - Goodness, I forgot all about that whole Mr. Minnie-verse deal LOL (keep that on the DL would ya?) I personally think you did a great job of building drama and suspense into your report...the effective use of the dramatic pause provided an adrenaline pump in my system much like that of a shot of espresso (even though I've never had a shot of espresso...can you believe I've never had coffee either? I digress..). BTW, core work, light weights and flexing constitues something more than resting in the official "What counts as exercise, what counts as rest" book.

Martha - Holy Cow!! 3 of the 5 hours of meetings were actually productive??? Around here, 3 of the 5 would be planning additional meetings :rotfl:

Maura - Nice work getting massaged by the Half Marathon Winner!! Looks like you have someone who knows what they are doing :)

Z Kevin - whooohooo!! Hope you have a safe and happy return to the states!! Those sandstorms look horrible!!

Krista - AWwww...you are the BESTEST!! I don't care what Stephen says about you. I'm all for hooking up in January...you guys need to bring the bikes and we can all do a Tour de WDW :rotfl: Hope all is well with you guys :goodvibes:

Cosi Bella - Hello!! Without going into a lot of detail, I'd recommend hitting the bookstore and taking a glance at Bingham's plans in his Marathoning for Mortals book. He offers walk, walk/run, run/walk and run plans for Half and Full Marathons. I've followed his advice through a few halfs, a full and a Goofy Challenge. I'd work towards a base that is comfortable for you over the summer (maybe 20-25 miles per week?), something that gets you moving but doesn't push towards injury...then kick in a 20 week Half Marathon plan in late August that will guide you through to January. You'll find tons of plans (Runners World, Bingham, Galloway, etc) and should be able to customize one that works best for you :)

Amy - Yay!! THANK YOU for joining me in an additional day down in WDW !! I know the run was tough for you yesterday, make sure you are eating well and hydrating today (and every day for the next week ;) ) Hope everything else is good in your world, can't wait to see you again buddy!

Scott's World - I pounded the pavement last night over 5 grueling, brutal miles over the rolling, taxing route through the neighborhood in the sweltering heat that could only be compared to what it must feel like during the Death Valley 10k. Ok...it was more like a nice jaunt on warm sunny day, but in taking a queue from Debra, I tried to add some dramatic flair to the report. Did the 5 miles in 45:36 (9:07) and I feel pretty good today. Tonight I hope to do the cycling/elliptical combo that has been so refreshing for me.

Oh...and I think the Wednesday night bonus night will be spent at AKL (should work well after EMH at AK :goodvibes: )

I hope everyone has a wonderful day today!!!

Krista - :guilty: That is so sad that 2nd grader is talking like that.

Cosi Bella - Manyo fus used MArathoning for Mortals by John "The Penguin" Bingham for our training. he has some good training plans in there fro teh half and full marathons that iwll ramp you up somewhat gently. Running for Mortals has a 5K plan. I do not recommend starting at more than 3 (maybe 4) days a week. SUpplement with cross trianing 1 or 2 times a week adn give yourself at least one rest day. JMO, but if you don't want injurt, it's better to play it safe.

Curious Morgan - ROTFL! Live Aid.......:thumbsup2

Thank you for the great advice! I am seriously considering investing in a tm for the days I can not run outside. I just HATE tms! I feel like a hamster running on a wheel trapped in a cage! Its terrible. BUT, if I must, I WILL!

Would it be terrible of me to register for the race through a company like Anthony Travel!?!? I feel like I would be copping out and cheating! :(

Welcome to the group! I live in Calgary, Alberta where the weather is pretty unpredictable and can get pretty nasty in the winter. (Um, hello....like the snow that keeps falling outside right now...can I get some spring already?) Anyhow....I managed to train for the Goofy throughout the winter with never having to hit the treadmill once. I just kept an eye on the forecast and for a couple of weekends where the temps were supposed to get towards -20 deg or below I moved my runs to get them in before the cold weather hit. If being in the cold doesn't bother you and you have the proper gear, it can be done! The bonus was I never needed an ice bath afterwards...;)

And no, registering for the half through Anthony Travel or Marathon Tours in not cheating or copping out at all! Don't feel guilty about it, if that is how you want to enter then I say go for it!

As for me today, I'm aiming for a 3 or 4 miler before boot camp tonight, but I'm wondering with the snow that keeps falling if boot camp is going to happen. On the bright side it looks like tomorrow is the last day for snow and cold temperatures as we are supposed to get into the high 40s, low/mid 50s Saturday and into next week. Yikes, the heat and humidity at the Minnie may just do me in. Thankfully I arrive on Wednesday and have a couple of days to aclimatize!

"Can't we all just get along?" - Rodney King Well said! :thumbsup2 And somehow you have my limited sympathy Mr. Lives-in-paradise-but-can't-make-a-day-trip-to-Disney! (yeah that's some suffering over there! (okay okay it's Disney and you do get some sympathy!)

Cam:  you are such an inspiration to me!

Debra: mmmm back to food and I must say that pizza sounds yummy!

Vic: Root Beer for me please! :goodvibes

Mel: ice cream with red pepper??? hmm interesting!

:sail:

I'm just trying to make it through the last few weeks of school. I've been getting in runs and xt but I can't always keep up with the flying board! (especially since I like to go post by post!) I must say I do love my team here, even if I don't always get to post.

Good runs and good rest!

ScoJo15 and wtpclc Thanks for the training advice. I'm going to go to barnes and nobels tonight after work and pick that book up right away! I can't wait to get started with this training!

ITS still snowing by you!?! what!? I would die, I think! I HATE the winter. I hate snow most of the time (I like it during christmas). I hate the cold weather. But I give you a LOT of credit for running no matter what the temp is. My mom is much like you, she would treck out there in 15 degree weather and jog, and drag me along with her, much to my dismay! I would rather run on a treadmill then run in the cold, and I think that is what I'll end up doing!

I'm really relieved to hear that you, and others say that going through Anthony travel is not copping out! what a relief! Andromedaslove tunned me into a charity (AT) that has a lower minimum requirement ($600), and I'm seriously considering running for them! What a great opportuinty! I'm doing some research now on that organization, and what AT is, but this is great news! Thanks everyone, for making me feel better about that!

Jeff Thanks for the Lost links. DS and I will have fun perusing. Only problem is I can't stay up til 10 to watch and no Tivo for us. Will have to catch the HD replay online (not quite as much fun as seeing it on 42" plasma)

Mousewalker Dave Good luck on the rest of your interview!

Christa Why is it when I look at your screen name I always see "gator hips" and keep wondering whether a gator has hips and what do they look like?

Morgan Onion rings---oooohhh! I still crave the ones made at this little, now closed, drive in near where I grew up. Never had much luck making them at home.

Cosi Bella Why feel guilty about using Anthony Travel--that's whay they do it. And the wise gurus on this board will tell you to ramp up slowly. Even though you have the running background, you may want to not start out running every day.

Scott Glad you get to sneak away to WDW early and to AKL. I'm staying there for the first time for the Minnie and am really looking forward to it.

Leanna If we all chant together "no more snow, no more snow" will the snow gods hear us? Weatherman today said we may get a snow shower next Monday.

Claire Hope you survive your last few weeks of school in a reasonably stress-free manner (if possible!)

Now back to work for me.

Morgan- Yes, the zoo is definitely a hard course, but it is kind of fun. Everyone looses a bit of time on the hill. I did notice someone at the Mayor’s 5K last year with a Tinkerbell tattoo, by chance is that your friend.

Dave- Good luck on the interview.

Christa- Treadmill running is just no fun. I always feel like stopping short. I think it is part mental because you can just watch the distance tick up slowly. I definitely sweat a LOT more on a treadmill too.

Cosi Bella- I used Anthony Travel last year because I decided too late to sign up for the half. I had no real problems. A couple of things to keep in mind though:

Groups are not entered into the Disney Sports computer until very late (Thanksgiving Wednesday last year) so don’t be surprised if you don’t show up when you try to confirm your registration online.
If you are using Magical Express make sure to do it through Anthony and not Disney. Disney ended up sending my ME to Anthony Travel and I didn’t get the tags on time. I was still able to use them but had to transport my bags myself (which I always do anyway)
Make a point of asking for your Disney Reservation Number. They will only give you the Anthony number if you don’t ask. The Dis Number makes ADR’s easier.
I did have a positive experience though and would use them again if the opportunity represented itself.

I rarely run on a treadmill and have some pretty good winter running gear. Only icy roads keep my inside. But if you don’t like running in the cold then the treadmill is better than nothing.

To answer you question about advancing miles. I have always gone by the 10% rule. If you are running 10 miles per week now, add 1 miles the next (10%). Adding too many miles too quickly can be a painful lesson in over training. Changing the miles you are doing is also a good idea. If you normally go out and just run at a comfortable pace for 3 miles do something different for the same distance. One example would be .25 or .5 mile repeats. Fartlek workouts are great and help with your lactic thresh holds and force you backwards in the Krebs cycle.

Thanks for the tips about anthony travel, especially about how you dont show up on the web as a registered runner until late... I would definitely freak out if I hadn't known that!! I'm such a worrier! I wasn't sure how reliable they were, so I'm really glad to hear that they were a good choice for you! I feel much better about that route, if I choose not to do the charity!

Thanks for the running tips!!! I'm getting a lot of great tips and advice on this message board, I really don't think I'd be able to do this marathon without the help of everyone! I will take it slow, and smart!

OK. Step one: educate myself on how to properly train by purchasing 'Marathoning for Mortals' by John Bingham. Buy a new pair of running shoes (sweet, I love shoe shopping, even if its just sneakers!). In the meantime, tonight I will go on my first jog! I will post tomorrow how I do. I'm hopping for 3 miles, but we'll see how it goes :cool2:

Cosi Bella Why feel guilty about using Anthony Travel--that's whay they do it. And the wise gurus on this board will tell you to ramp up slowly. Even though you have the running background, you may want to not start out running every day.

You make an excellent point about AT! Its true, that's what they do and there is no shame in it! I don't think I'd be able to run everyday!! I'm going to start slow. I'm aiming for about 4 days a week for now, until I get comfortable again and in shape. Thanks for the advice!!

Cosi Bella and Firedancer I have a question about the registration you are talking about? A friend didn't get signed up in time for the Disneyworld 1/2 thorugh Disneysports, is this a way to still register?
AladdinsGirld We moved here from Washington State, and before that we were in Vail/Beaver Creek, CO. We are the traveling type, but hope to stay in place for a while. We'll see???

Tracy: Okay, you're a dirty girl! I hope your tv-watching rest program was enjoyable. It's Lost for me tonight!

DM Kim: Wow, your schedule doesn't sound very restful. With all that running around, I'd say you had a XT day.

Angie: You're such a sap! :) It's no surprise that you're so emotional: new job, the back pain, the excitement of the Minnie and its status as an anniversary of sorts for you, even just taper. That's a lot on your plate, girl, and you should be hugged for feeling things so deeply.

Jackie: You & Lance, sharing a finishing time! I think you should brag that one up, no matter the difference in distance. (I may have a bit of a crush on Lance.) It sounds like the are DD is considering is beautiful, and it's very cool that you had the opportunity to hike & see waterfalls. Your description of how WISH has challenged you, and changed you, is also cool.

Kira:  for challenging yourself with both core work and with doing a trail run.

Disneyluv: :yay: for another ToT person!!! Good job with the 3.5er, no matter the pace.

Frank: Good point about the game, and we'll definitely want to see it. (Shhh. Don't tell anyone, but DOOD is a Chelsea fan.) Anyone know of any good soccer bars in Pgh? :confused3 I hope your run went well.

Mel: So we're talking about smoked pork, soft chewy cookies and hot, sweet ice cream...are we all tapering for something? :rotfl: And see what you've started with the tattoos--now Hockeychic/Kim is thinking of one!

Aloha Jeff: What's more important--social events or Lost? *Sigh* Priorities, priorities. :rotfl2: As for the pics, the first one makes me sigh and the second makes me gasp. Good for the ole heart!

Craig: What I think you meant to say is that you're such a presence here that you're always in our peripheral vision. :thumbsup2

Howard: Great news on the Minnie! Not to mention the end of school is within reach--almost sprint distance.

Susie: Wow, what a busy event schedule. You sound like you're really looking forward to it. I've not done a Galloway clinic (or any other one, for that matter), so I'll be waiting for your report. Thank you for doing OKC (with Connie) and keeping Randy in your thoughts.

TXAng: I don't have a child, butt.... As much as I enjoyed having my ILs at the Goofy, I wish their first experience with me & Disney had been at DL for the same reason. It's smaller, I'm very familiar with it, and everything is more manageable in terms of time & distance. I know, I'm stretching it with the comparison, but I swear my DFIL is going through his second or third childhood. And your testament to WISH is true, but it's also a testament to YOURSELF. WISH just helps you tap into your dreams, your strength, and your determination.

MSDave: I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for the interview & new position. Good luck, and you're always part of this team.

Christa: Wow, that must have been a crappy DM run. I mean, you squeeze in extra runs during the day while waiting for DDs. I hope it was a passing lightheadedness.

Carrie, Krista & Scott: Y'all obviously haven't seen me strength train. Trust me, it's as close to resting as one gets. (Slow lifts, right?) And I'm taking Amy's and Craig's advice to heart--core work is okay on rest days, and I kept to lifting light weights only on my upper body. It's definitely not overtrained. Stretching, well...I have to keep up with my Chi exercises and the like. It's all about the core baby, all about the core--and I'm determined to find mine. I must say, however, that resting last night did involve TV and a little snack. popcorn::

Carrie: "First time you, first time me." :lmao: Very zen-like of you. And I say any good dinner with friends is the best rest day there is!!! (Even if made better with ice cream.)

Morgan: Paula Deen. Talk about your comfort food. So, have you signed up for your next event? ;) I admire your cutting drama-mongers (love that term) out of your life. I'm related to too many of mine, and they keep figuring out where I live.

Krista: Your anecdote about the 2nd grader & the candy made me sad. :sad2: I'm so happy we have so many parents here, encouraging a new generation of happy, healthy children through example & involvement. Carter is (will be? the verb tense is confusing me at this point) blessed to have you two as parents.

Cosi Bella: I'm a little late on the response--busy, busy thread--but I was just thinking about your 1.5 mile loop. I wouldn't be surprised if eventually you want to break out of that, but in the meantime I'll bet you could get your DF to skate/run one and maybe even interest some of your neighbors or friends. You'd be sort of a billboard for running/training, if you're into running with others. I'd say that's an advantage to a loop. :thumbsup2 The loop would also help you measure your progress if you follow Frank's suggestions!

I also second (third? fourth?) Scott's suggestion about building a base and then checking out Bingham's MfM and other plans; MfM really worked for me, and I'm following his marathon plan this year. And I'm a big proponent of getting fitted for your shoes at a running store, even if you don't have knee/foot problems or other complications. It will make a big difference in your running, your training, and your health!

Scott: Never had espresso? :confused3 Oh, my. You're a stronger person than I am; are you a no-caffeine person? No, my lame attempt at dramatic tension had none of the kick of a good espresso. I kind of like creating a mashup of your descriptions: a nice, sunny jaunt through Death Valley like the cowboy you are!

Amy: Since Scott mentioned your day... and :cheer2:

Leana: No ice baths needed. Now that's some good copy for training in Calgary! I'll hope for warmer weather for you before you leave, though, so that the shift to FL isn't such a shock.

Claire: I hope these last few weeks of school fly by, that the boring lit review is well-received, and that you've finished most of the semester's work. After all, it's almost time for summer vacation!!

Maura: Work. :scared: It needs more perks, like free massages and Lost breaks on Fridays.

As for me: Tonight and tomorrow DOOD & I are checking out some new digs we located through Craigslist--which now makes me think of Calcio. We're trying to find a place that will take our cats--and us--at a reasonable price. I don't know which couple is the harder sell. Anyone want to adopt? (Me, them, I'm not picky.)

Debra- The runs went well. Fox Soccer Channel’s web site has a pub guide that could shed light on soccer establishments in Pgh. Here (http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/story/802702) is the link.

Kim- Anthony Travel has blocks of race registrations but you have to book a package with them. This has to include at least 3 nights in one of their resorts.
Their 2009 WDW Marathon page can be found here (http://www.anthonytravel.com/event_detail.cfm?EventID=140)

Cosi Bella: Welcome! I second(third...fourth?) the Marathoning for Mortals book/program. I used it to train for Goofy which was my first half and full marathon. My mom commented that all through the races I always looked "refreshed" compared to a lot of the people, which I credit to a good training program and prep. Good luck on getting signed up. Also you may want to see if there is a specialty running store near you, as they usually can fit you better than a mega store. Have fun on your run! (ps.Do you have a name?)

Craig: If you aren't a full member then who on earth is??

Debra: "sprint distance" --I like it! Actually it's more of a put-your-head-down-and-plow-on but close enough eh? On a good note a finished a rough copy of the boring lit. review, and since my partner did no work on it I'm going to let her take the prof's comments and do the final draft. As for summer vacation--ha! I get less than a week off then start intersession. One class, 3 hours per day, monday through saturday, for a little over two weeks. Talk about a sprint! But then I get a couple of weeks off before summer school starts. Good luck on finding a place.

Off for more work...or maybe I'll go get a new swimsuit as the one I have is about to fall apart!

Hey folks!

How is everyone today???

Morgan...You dork! Sign up for that 5K! :rotfl:

Kim...Yay for Marathon weekend! You must be so excited!

Kevin...Safe Travels!

Allie...HI! Are you loving your Garmin??? I really enjoy mine. I just do the basic stuff. I do love it though.

Maura...How was that leg massage? How cool that your therapist won the 1/2 Marathon. Very cool!

Tracy... Hope you enjoyed your rest day yesterday!

Martha...5 hrs of meetings! Geez! Glad you survivied! Oh and the CM's applauding. That almost made me cry!

The Great White Debra of the mid-west...I was anticipating your response. Darn! I hope your new digs tours go well. You can come live above my garage. I need a training partner! :goodvibes I'm afraid you'd have to sleep on the pool table though!

Angie...Great job taking that extra rest day. Very good discpline on your part. We need you to get to the starting line healthy!

Jackie...Wow! Lots of activity in one weekend! I bet those waterfalls were pretty!

Disneyluv...WTG on the 3.5 miles!

Frank...How was your 8.25?

Howard...Yay for going to the Minnie! How exciting!

Susie...I'm right there w/ ya! Just trying to stay one step in front of the sweepers!

Dave...Hope your job interview went well!

Christa...Sorry to hear about your run. You were smart to bag it! I also had 5 scheduled but only ended up w/ 3.38 at MUCH slower pace than you.

Krista...I wish my day today was my Friday! My Friday will be extra long. ugh.

Leana...Hope you are able to get in your miles and boot camp.

Scott...As usual, your training is fantastic! How cool that you are going a day early and staying at AKL!!! I am so jealous! Not fair! :goodvibes

Amy... for your tough run. How are you feeling today?

Cosi Bella...Yep, what everyone else said about running shoe store and MfM book! Go get 'em!!!

For me... Ah, I was supposed to do 5 miles yesterday. It really didn't go that well. I bagged it after 3.38 miles. I was so tired and lathargic. I'm pretty sure hydration was my problem. I had only had 1 glass of sweet tea all day long and then at 4:30 I try to do 5 miles. It just wasn't working. I'm going make a conscious effor tomorrow to drink plenty of fluids during the day as around 4:30 or so I'll be going out for my 8 miler. It will be close to 80 degrees too. I'm trying a new route by a river and around a lake. It's close to where I work. I'm hoping the new scernery will help it go by faster.

That's all from me for now!

Happy training...or tapering!
Stacie

Okay, okay.. you can all stop yelling at me. I signed up for another 5k on May 4th! And guess who wanted to sign up too? Mr. Grumpy "I hate this/my knees are too bad to run/why can't we just stay on the treadmill/I'm only doing this for the exercise" Runner himself, Jeff. Hmm... maybe we have another runner in the household afterall...

Stacie, sweet tea!! My weakness. I drink it so fast at Chick-Fil-A that I get a bellyache. You'll do better tomorrow for sure!!

AladdinsGirld We moved here from Washington State, and before that we were in Vail/Beaver Creek, CO. We are the traveling type, but hope to stay in place for a while. We'll see???

There is a way to still register, as others have already beat me to answering your questions. Here is the link though, to the page that lists all the charities and companies that you can register through. With anthony travel, you book your hotel with them for a min. of 3 nights and you can add on a race entry. This works well for me because I will be in the area for a few days, but this could be a draw back to other people who weren't planning on staying that long. They have a list of hotels to choose from though, so its not like you have to stay at the most expensive one. Unfortunately Disney's registration got filled up so quickly that this is really the only other way to get in!

Hope this helps! Good luck to your friend, I hope they get to run!

dsnyfan21-- Howdy neighbor! How did you like the A1A Half?? I'm thinking about adding it to my races for next year....

Vic-- Love the tattoo!! Now that's commitment....

Cosi Bella- :welcome:

Kim-- :welcome:

Mel-- Not crazy, fun remember?? We're on the FUN side of the state! :thumbsup2

Carol-- Cool earrings Joe Rhode?? I'm totally jealous!

Carrie-- Apologize?? Pish..... And yes, the pool is much much much deeper around these parts....

Scott-- I'm offically stealing "Tour de Neighborhood." It sounds so much cooler than "3 miler." :teeth:

NEPatsFan-- Well, if you're handing out money......... :cool2:

Kevin Z-- Glad to hear you are well and headed home soon!! You must be so thrilled!!!

Craig and Frank-- I know the Italian league is all flash and sizzle, but give me the French Ligues any day. Very very entertaining from a fan perspective, even if the coverage is kind of hard to find stateside. (And since the Caps can't win a Game 7... I can start wearing my Marsielle jersey around the house again...)

Krista-- That's so cool about the baby moving.... but... thank goodness I'm a guy! I would have FREAKED OUT!! :scared1: Aliens indeed..... ;)

Jackie-- Everyone I know thinks of me watching B&S anymore... I wonder why..... Maybe I need to lay of preaching the Brothers and Sisters gospel for a while....

AmyBeth-- Your activity level exhausts me just reading it... it's like virtual cardio....

Howard-- VERY COOL about Minnie. You can get talked in to anything, huh??

Speaking of Minnie....

Howard! We all are so excited you will be joining us for Minnie Weekend! We needed more eye candy. ;)

Well FINE!! Guess this studmuffin just isn't enough of for the Ladies of WISH anymore..... Stomps over to Huffy bike.... rides off......

So I did manage to run again yesterday. Tuesday I did 5K in 28:50 and yesterdays was 5K in 28:37. Consistant, but I'm not breaking any land speed records. It was however 85 degrees out... definately need to start shifting my runs to the AM.

Unfortunately, my quads are very very sore this morning... something that has never happened during short runs before. I'm hoping that I'm just incredibly out of shape at the moment and it isn't my nice new shoes.... I'll see how I feel after MMA class tonight-- maybe I'll go for another 5K to test the legs out....

Whew...made it....

Hi everybody!!
Hope ya'll have great workouts or rest days!!

I can't wait til TOT so that I can see all my friends again.

Krista: when I was late in pregnacy with DD21, she would shift her whole body to one side of my stomach, usually the right side. My left side would be totally flat and I would have this weird looking bump on my right side. She also would get hiccups often. Enjoy your little alien and the memories he gives you!!

Judy: I am still here. I am glad that I had both my feet done at the same time. I think I would have chickened out otherwise.

CosiBella: Welcome

Enjoy the Minnie Weekend everybody!!

Cosi Bella...I sorta think of John Bingham as a minor deity, so also recommend Marathoning for Mortals. Several of us did his CDC half last year...very cool! My one piece of advice from someone who screwed up their marathon training last year...don't blow off the short runs! The base runs are hugely important in giving you the endurance for the LR.

Kevin...did I see you were getting a zebra tattoo? ;)

Solo Kevin:  Sooo good to see you!!! Your runs sound very consistent..and hey....training runs aren't for land speed records..save that for the races ;). I'm glad we'll be seeing you at Minnie!!!

Michelle: WTG on setting up a solid training plan and working towards building that base! I will chime in that Bingham's MFM is the best information out there for those new to the sport. Most importantly it builds mileage safely...with lots of sound advice! :thumbsup2

Morgan: YAY for another 5K :).

Debra: Since I've already got 2 cats...i could definitely use a Debra. You're adopted!

Carrie: (in my best Homer Simpson)....mmmmm....dooooughnuts. :lovestruc

NE Bill: I promise, I'm still working on it!!! ;)

Stacie: It was the aliens...I had a super stinky 5 Miler yesterday too. No worries...we shall just pretend it never happened. Shhhhh. :rolleyes1

KevinZ: Safe travels!!! Wow...those dust storms...yikes!!!! :(

Howard: :cool1: Woo-hoo for joining the Minnie crew! No worries on the training....you're uber runner, can't fool us!

Krista: Going to take you and Stephen up on that night out during Marathon weekend. yay for grandparents!!! :cloud9:

Scott Armstrong: OK..wow your new passion is the cycling:). That's so cool...I can't wait to hear about the Tour de Georgia leg you're watching this weekend! Sounds pretty intense! As long as you don't have to witness the nature break:scared1: . Isn't that what it's called. Have fun during your Tour de Neighborhood tonight. Way to rack up those miles for da' bunnies *hip hop a hippity hip hop a hip hop hippity doo* (A little old school eminem SNL. I'm probably the only person who gets that.) :rotfl:

As for moi.....Yesterday's 5 Miler was total poo (and I'm not talking about that tubby little cubby). Awful...from the first step to the last...it stunk. I was dehydrated I believe (VERY SALTY after the run). I had the girls with me and they were on bikes riding the trail...at mile 3 they asked "can we go to the playground" and I GLADLY said yes...as I flopped on a bench and tried to find the energy to run the final two miles. Today is much better....haircut, shopping for disney, spin class and then a softball game. Yay...cannot wait to get to Disny next week!!! :woohoo:

MS Dave – Hey there! Good to see you again! Good luck on getting that new job.

Christa – Sorry about the lousy run.

Krista – “May or may not have stayed up until midnight?” Sounds like me half the time. Can’t wait to see those pages! I can’t believe that a second grader is worried about getting fat. :sad2:

Scott – I’m working on doing the DL trip over Labor Day just so I can do the DL Half. I’m having a harder and harder time trying to talk myself out of it, so I’m really hoping that we’ll be able to do it! BTW, I just love those penguin avatars that you and Amy have – they make me smile every time I see them. :)

Debra – Yes, there’s just something about DL, isn’t there? Of course, I still haven’t made my way over to WDW, and I’ve wanted to since I was about 5 years old. Part of me is afraid that it will be a disappointment after all these years of dreaming of going there. Good luck finding a new place – how many cats do you have? We’ve got two big, fat, lazy tabbies (seriously, they weigh 16 and 19 pounds).

Stacie – Sorry about the bad run. It does sound like you may not have been hydrated enough. Hope tomorrow's is much better!

Morgan – Yay for signing up for your next 5K!

Amy - Sorry about the bad run. Seems like they're going around, doesn't it?

As for Me - Today is W2D2 of C25K for me - though I'm going to wait until just before sunset to go do it, I think. Didn't have a chance to go earlier and it's pretty darn warm out right now.

Well said! :thumbsup2 And somehow you have my limited sympathy Mr. Lives-in-paradise-but-can't-make-a-day-trip-to-Disney! (yeah that's some suffering over there! (okay okay it's Disney and you do get some sympathy!)

Claire : I've said it before, so I'll say it again... Someone has to live here, so it might as well be me!

I'm related to too many of mine, and they keep figuring out where I live.

THAT'S also why I live here, there's half of the Pacific Ocean that separates me from those related to me! :rotfl: :scared1: :rotfl2: :cool1:

Uuuugh, is it Friday yet? Or better yet the weekend?

GOOD EVENING WONDERFUL WISH TEAM!!!

I'm trying to pretend like I'm not in a funk instead that I am completely pumped up, is it working!!??? I'm just kidding, I just had to come here to get some of the inspiration and wonderful words of wisdom that I have received so many times before.

I did 3.5 miles tonight, stayed at a nice easy pace, about a 10 to 11 minute pace. Speaking of that pace Howard - I am soooo exicted you are coming to MINNIE  and maybe your dear wife will let me borrow you for the race and run that pace with you. :confused3

Also Scott thanks for asking, today is the best my back has felt yet but feeling like a blimp because while I have been "resting" I have been PIGGING OUT!! Yes, me the one who never eats, but it's been all crap and now I feel :scared1:

So I really WISH I could get myself syked for next weekend but I seem to be in such a funk!! Well it better go away because I'm NOT going to stand for it. I finally get to back to DISNEY for goodness sake, my happy place!!!:cool1:

I really truly am sorry that I have not been posting to everyone, I can't post from work anymore and every night this week when I come home I have literally been sitting with ice on my back. But guess what, I have off work tomorrow!!!! One of the awesome things about my new job, every other Fridya off - would have been nice if it was the Friday of MINNIE but we can't have it all right?

Angie  Seems you need one of those! Look at it this way if you can....it's WDW...there's lots of great people there for all of us to run with.....just let it go in your mind and allow yourself to have fun. I have to say that probably THE MOST FUN I've ever had at a race...wait let me say....the most fun running ever....was the WDW Half this year. The question is...why was it fun??? Because I allowed myself to not worry about pace. Due to Goofy....knowing the marathon was the following day...I just relaxed and enjoyed every second........the time spent just taking it all in. Try to do that..despite the injury and disappointment. here's another one

Craig,

I was just going to let your comment about being a peripheral member slide but I just couldn't. My immediate thoughts were you are a very integral part of the WISH team and a huge wealth of knowledge. Then upon analyzing it further (a cause of why I always fail standardized tests :rolleyes1 ) I came up with a way you could be a peripheral member. So here are the results of my analysis.

After observing you the past few years (yes while I have migrated to the perimeter of the crowds), you do tend to stay towards the outside but while there you are constantly watching over the well being of the entire group. Instead of pulling people in, you are in the position to push/encourage (or give the swift kick to the bottom to those who need it ;) )people to do the right thing. You make sure team mates don't do stupid things during training when they get injured, make sure that people who get discouraged have support, give valuable advise to those who may be lost in what they should be doing, and it goes on. In that light, you are a very integral part of the team and if you weren't here, there would be a big hole.

Now if you mean you aren't a critical part of the team, well that would show that you had a little too much of unknown substances while you were at that college in Austin. ;)

I know personally I have learned a lot from listening to you and am very grateful that I have the opportunity to sit and learn.

Bill

Did it! C25K W2D2: 2.16 miles in 30:25. I also learned that even if it's not bright outside, I should always wear a hat. Having stray hairs flying into my mouth for the entire WO? Not fun.

Stacie: Yes!! Hydrate, hydrate - warm weather requires it!! Good luck on the new route, a river view sounds nice.

Michelle: Sounds like your on your way to doing the Marathon. Having your shoes fit at a good running store is important. I am a walker and tend to do it every so often- like a checkup.

Amy: Sorry to see you had a Poop of a run. It'll be better next time.

Debra: LOST IS ON AS I TYPE THIS - (some guy just washed up on shore) I only got alittle bit dirty today during my training walk. hehe.

Jeff: LOST IS ON AS I TYPE!! Thanks for the link - You look great in the photo and I'M JEALOUS!!

Solotraveler (?Kevin?) - Hey back to you neighbor!! My opinion of the Fort Lauderdale A1A Half marathon .....hmmmm now remember I am a racewalker so my view may be very different. Compared to WDW, ING Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, I would rank them as #1WDW, #2 Ing Miami and #3 Ft. Lauderdale. I wasn't too impressed with the course all that much and not alot of people along the route. And I don't know about you, but being that I live here and grew up here, the course was somewhat boring. I would say that 80% of the course is North and South on A1A with wind blowing at you. I am not sure I would do it again. It was only the 3rd year, so maybe give it some more time before I would think of doing it again.

As for me (sorry I'm typing during commercials) I did 4 miles after work today. Did pretty good but felt a bit sluggish today. Hydration was fine, but just think I was/am tired. I will try to stretch before bed with my new foam roller.

Good evening all you WISHERS!!

Angie wrote:Speaking of that pace Howard - I am soooo exicted you are coming to MINNIE and maybe your dear wife will let me borrow you for the race and run that pace with you.

Angie~ I might have been a little "optimistic" with the pace I mentioned.... I am in untested waters here... For Goofy I did have about 16 days to train. For this I will have basically none.

Last fall I was in mid-semester and I noticed that a local 15K (I had ran before) was coming up. I decided on Thursday to run it that weekend (with no training).

25th Wilmington Distance Classic ~ October 7, 2007~ 9.3 Miles~1:40:24~10:45 pace.

So, I think I should be able to hit something close to that this time. If you are in that pace range, I would welcome a WISHer or group to run with.

Besides, I think Cam is going to want this "Minnie Muffin" off on my own most of the weekend while she goes off to have fun with the Minnie Girls. I am travelling down with that expectation and want her to get the most out of this weekend. She's earned it. I have not.. I am just along for the fun!

Greetings Everyone: Wow, I had an exhausting day with my interviews yesterday. From 9am-3:15p I had hour meetings set up where I bounced from person to person. People asking me tons of questions about the job, why I think I'm qualified, what I would do in it, etc. Plus, I had two hour long presentations to give in there as well. All and all, I think it went well. The last meeting I had was with the search committee, and it was the toughest group. Plus I was wearing down by that point, and wasn't sure how my answers were sounding. I was starting to feel like I was repeating myself a lot. We'll see how it goes. I'm off to a conference in Ithaca today and tomorrow. Plus my DW's grandmother is having her 100th birthday party in Ithaca tomorrow as well. Right after my conference I'm meeting up with the family to go to the party. I'm hoping to get a run in after my meeting today, and maybe sometime on Saturday too. We'll see...

Have a great day everyone!

GOOD MORNING TEAM!!:thumbsup2

I'm back again already, you want to know WHY?? :confused3 I am off of work today :woohoo: :woohoo: and I was actually able to get up and make my kids pancakes for breakfast and will take them to school when it starts, not 2 hours early sitting at the Y. OK so that was enough to help break me out of this funk. Also I have to say:

AMY  Right back at you and I really appreciate every one putting up with my wining!! Seriously. I know it gets old. I have so much to be thankful for, 6 months a go I didn't know if I would ever be able to run again at all!!!! I know you are right about just having fun. I was just telling DH that I am going to do something WE HAVE NEVER DONE BEFORE!!! -- RUN THIS RACE FOR FUN!!! There is a concept.:upsidedow
Every race we have done was to beat our time before, like I told you guys before I don't even have one picture with one character from any of the races!! And all of our hundreds of trips to Disney I don't have any pictures with any princesses, the DH and DS would never let me take time to stop. So guess whos getting pics with princesses  OK anyway - thanks again!!
Bill/ Craig I have to jump in here and say WAY TO GO BILL!!! You described Craig's "role" as a part of this team - PERFECTLY!! Wow I always look forward to him popping his head in here with words of wisdom and posts that can make me cry!:rotfl: Seriously, we love you Craig and I am bringing you WISH colors to wear at MINNIE, just kidding.
TXANG :dance3: :dance3: :yay: WAY TO GO!!!! That hair thing is annoying huh!!
Tracy Hope your stretch went well with the foam roller, was it as hot down there yesterday as it was here?

Have to take kids to school, will be continued in 10 minutes.....

Howard That is so sweet for you to give your wife that time!!! I really need to take it easy at MINNIE, the way the back has been acting up again so we will see!!! Can't wait to see you guys there.

OK off to clean the house, shop, all the fun stuff you do on a day off of work. BTW - the back is a little sore after the run last night, so I opted out of weights at the gym this morning!!! Aren't you guys proud of me ;)

MSW Dave

Good luck with the new position. Those day long campus visits are killers, a series of interviews and presentations. No wonder you felt tired by the end when you met the search committee. Please pass the word when you hear, and do let us know the institution.

Bill

During my 2 years at UT I was in grad school, studying my fanny off, so I had little time for Austin distractions. Now I look back and wish I'd been more irresponsible.

I think you overstate my influence around here. In my mind the core of the WISH team is about folks who wake up one day and decide to take back their life and health, through regular exercise, nutrition, and other significant and positive life changes. I've always been super active (hyperactive actually, I don't sit still very well), so the anchore of the group which I think is about beginning this process doesn't describe me. Thus the peripheral comment. The folks WWDave talks about as Wish Royalty are in this group, I see myself at behind and a little to the right, happy to help out when asked.

On second thought, does that make me a member of our Secret Service? If so, how cool is that? Can I get an earpiece and a blue suit?

And you really are too kind Mr. Bill. No wonder everyone here thinks so fondly of you and your little family. 4 very pleasant people in 1 household sounds like a nice life indeed.

See you all next weekend.

Dave - way to go Grandma!! I will be up your way (kind of) in August. I am taking my neices to the NY State Fair.
Well, to be totally honest....there's a certain concert happening at the fair... ;)
But we plan to do the rides and such during the day of the show. I am looking forward to a fun girls' weekend with them.

Angie - you keep resting. I know it is so hard for you, but please keep it up.
It would be a shame if your restlessness or whatnot kept you from racing longterm.
Enjoy the Minnie - I will be there with you all in spirit next weekend. Get pics with those Princesses!

It is so exciting to see everyone getting their workouts in, and especially with the glorious sunny weather here in the northeast, you are all making me WANT to get out and RUN!!! Really, truly, you all inspire me so much and I am so looking forward to seeing so many new WISHers at the Minnie next weekend and then coming back here, more pumped than ever to stay on track training to run a 5k on 6/22 and then to just keep on training toward running the 1/2 marathon in January. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who posts about their bad/hard walks/runs and the good ones. It is so reassuring to know that we all go through the rough patches and come out on the other side. We get to commiserate AND celebrate each other's workouts. How cool!!! :thumbsup2

Stacie -- I meant to post yesterday that I am so glad you didn't go your whole 5 miles when you weren't feeling well. It definitely sounds like hydration was the problem and you could have seriously injured yourself, especially if wooziness set in. Being an athlete is as much about knowing our limits as wanting to exceed them. Great job, sweetie! :cutie:

Yay, Morgan!! You will be out at your 5k while other WISHers are doing various events at various places (including the Minnie). We'll all be thinking of the WISH support system whereever we are. Oh, and how awesome that you've inspired Mr. Grumpy! ;)

Okay, Kevin! Your siggie line made me  Can't wait to see you at Jellyrolls! Sorry no lasagna over Minnie weekend, though!

Amy -- hoping your Thursday was lovely! Shopping for Disney is always a good thing! :goodvibes

Dave -- we have missed you so much around here! Sending you huge loads of pixiedust: for the job situation!

Angie, sweetie, we all have our times like you are going through now. All I can do is send a huge cyber  for now and remind you of how many more you'll get in person next weekend from your teammates! :grouphug: All is good when a trip to our happy place is ANYWHERE on the horizon! :cloud9:

Bill -- You always know the right thing to say. You are so spot-on about Craig. Thank you so much for taking the time to post what so many of us thought but could not formulate coherently.

TXAng-- you are ROCKING the C25K training plan! Thank you for being a week ahead of me and making me actually look forward to getting there! :cool1:

Michelle -- I am SOOO glad you figured out a way to get registered. Are you going to wear Bride Minnie ears for the race? :bride:

Krista -- sending huge hugs to you and Stephen and Carter! Do we really have to wait until January to see you guys? :sad1: I think we need baby bump progress pix posted here!

Hi, Claire! How are you, sweetie? It is so nice to see you here. I've been missing everyone. (On January 25 I took on the biggest case of my career and spent a couple months working pretty much around the clock so I've been out of touch with how my teammates have been doing here. I am so glad to hear your training is going so great!! BTW, that intersession schedule sounds grueling. I hope you can use workouts to decompress a bit, listen to some good music and forget the grind. :cool1:

Kim -- HUGE congrats on that weight loss ticker!! :woohoo: How awesome! I hope you gave yourself a HUGE pat on the back (but don't celebrate with ice cream, no matter how much these guys tempt us with their tales of exotic flavors! ;) ). Keep up the great work -- my only worry is whether I'll recognize you when I see you again.

Jackie -- those campus locales sound awesome! Can you believe your little girl is looking at colleges? Oh, man! What a rude awakening!! It could be worse, though, Jenn's boyfriend gave her a "promise ring" 2 weeks ago -- pink sapphire & diamond. They are talking about a Disney wedding. Well, at least I know we raised her right! He is an absolute sweetheart and he's got the "whatever she wants is fine with me" down pat.

Angie -- Thank you so much for offering to run with Howard. You are such a sweetheart and a great friend! :lovestruc You see, he has this inner racehorse that sends him out for about an 8:00-something pace the first mile, exposing him to all sorts of horrors, the least of which is injury. I am so glad to know that whereever he is on the course there will be WISHers for him to hook up with and to really enjoy the race. He hasnt' done this one before, and as you know, I am a penguin for sure at the very back of the pack, so knowing he will have company and get to the finish safe and sound would give me SO MUCH peace of mind!

Debra -- You inspire me in more ways than I can say. Thank you! (look at the size of this post, for one thing ;) ) Good luck with the new digs hunt! Sorry I can't offer to help. We've just committed to having our "adopted" daughter move in with us to help her financially and she will be boarding her cats at a friend's house while she lives with us.

As for me? Patty and I finished week one of Couch to 5k!! :woohoo: It really wasn't as difficult as I feared, though I will have to pay more attention to fuel as the workouts get more strenuous. Looking forward to week 2!

Oh, and one last thing -- Angie, I am ALWAYS proud of you. You are one of the sweetest people I have ever met in my life. It has been heartbreaking to see you struggle through injury. I am so glad you didn't push it this morning, though I'm sorry you are sore. Enjoy your day off. Oh, and as for those princess pics -- I am SURE Howard would just LOVE stopping for those pix. I'm not kidding, either.

Hey Team - Just a quick note because work and life are busy!!! I am taking 2 days off (yesterday and today) because my knees are really aching. DH thinks it's the shoes, so I did the math... Yup, I think it's the shoes. I have another pair in the closet and they are coming out tomorrow. So sad because I really have memories in this pair!

Oh and the nerve of our weather people.... it is COOOOLLLLDDDD and rainy here and dropping to highs in the 40's for the weekend... you know what they said... CHANCE OF FLURRIES (that's snow to you southerners). WHAT!!! Yah, they better mean just Northern WI and not us. I mean it!!!

I am so happy to hear of so many people doing Minnie for fun. That is one thing I say I am going to do and then every race is not so much about the fun. I mean, I have fun... just not all the fun I want to have. Does that make sense??

Angie - Take it easy on the back. I have a back injury and it has been bothering me lately (and my knees). I am really hoping a change in shoes is what I need. But I know I have been pushing myself more than in the past, so I have to remember to lay off a little sometimes. See you at the Minnie!

DAVE - Big shout out to you!!! Glad to see you back!!!

CAM - Big shout out to you also. I have missed your posts and hope to have time to chit chat a bit at Minnie.

Kim - I would love to see your Tinkerbelle tattoo. I really like Vic's also. I have been struggling with what Mickey image I want, and may just do the Mickey running, minus all the other stuff. Then I want to add 26.2 and 13.1.

Jen - :wizard: that it's well north of you (but not where our Canadian contingent is)!

Craig - WHile I am inspired by people who have totally tured their lives around (I consider myself somewhere in between), how would we reach our goals withoout the poeple like you who have been there and told us to hang in there our that we need to practicerunnign faster if we want to improve? That's what's great about WISH, we all have our places adn we're all needed!

TXAng- Woo hoo!

AngieTuck- Woo hoo for teh break you needed. Now, give that back a break. :grouphug:

Kim - GOod to see you!

Moinica - GOod to see you too!!!!!

Kevin - If you still ived here, you'd have your certificate. :snooty:

Curiouser adn TXAng. - Got my hair cut yesterday. It's too short to pull a lot back. Ugh. Good thing my visor will help. :sad2:

I di my 40 min last night. Started great. ENded not-so-great, but I was tired to start adn teh way back was all against the wind. Then again, why I am upset? 3 months ago, I would gahve beeen thrilled! :confused3 Seems as though I am settign new standards for myself again. I've got to say that feels really good!

Good morning everyone!!! :cool2:

solotraveler, and oofyin08forErica - thanks for the welcome wishes!!

I completely agree with this statement. I have the hardest time remembering it though after all those months of training. The time cmes closer and by that time I am so tired of training and just ready for the race to get here. So... .I blow off all the short runs!! :confused3 I pay for it every year too!!

Dana

That is great advice, and I will surely remember it! Thanks a bunch! :cool2:

Michelle: WTG on setting up a solid training plan and working towards building that base! I will chime in that Bingham's MFM is the best information out there for those new to the sport. Most importantly it builds mileage safely...with lots of sound advice! :thumbsup2

Thanks! :) I can't wait to read up on this book, it looks like it has a ton of great info!

Michelle: Sounds like your on your way to doing the Marathon. Having your shoes fit at a good running store is important. I am a walker and tend to do it every so often- like a checkup.

I definitely need a good check up, my old running shoes are way past their prime!!

Michelle -- I am SOOO glad you figured out a way to get registered. Are you going to wear Bride Minnie ears for the race? :bride:

Thanks me tooo!!! I did not even consider wearing bride minnie ears for the race, but that is a FANTASTIC idea and I WILL MOST DEF be doing that. :thumbsup2 So excited! Thanks for the great idea!! Have you ever seen anyone else do this?

And now for an update on my training!!!

Yesterday I got home from work and was so excited to run! I threw on my gear and got out there and ran 3 miles! No stopping, except to stretch my foot, it always cramps up when I get back into running from being on a "sabbatical." This will get better as I continue to run more and more. I made it the whole way!!! I really thought I would have had to stop and walk half way through, but I felt GREAT! I am not sure of my exact pace, but I know I left the house at 5:50, ran, got back and stayed outside to walk/cool down and stretch for about 10-15 mins, and when I got back inside it was 6:40. That's about 40 mins of running I think ... I should really buy a watch!

Anyway, I'm extremely happy with my run yesterday! I exceeded my expectations of myself and am just so happy that I can still run 3 with out killing myself! :cool1: I am SO tired today though! oh lordy. I thought my quads would be killing me this morning, as they usually hurt BADLY when I start up running again, but they are only mildly sore. I'm considering going for a light jog tonight after work, but I don't know if I have the energy. I really should have went to bed early last night, but DF and I had some projects to finish up around the house and cleaning to do b/c family is coming for a visit this weekend.

Well, that's my exciting news! I'm on my way to the 1/2 marathon! woo hoo:yay:

Keep up the good work everyone!!

Greetings Race Team -

I haven't posted because I have nothing to report. I'm only posting today because, well, I'm feeling a little left out. :guilty: Waaaahhhh! :sad1:

My hamstring feels much better but not perfect. I'm VERY nervous it's going to act up halfway thru the Minnie. Can I take Advils during the race? :confused3

But since I see two of my all time favorites here I have to give a couple of shout outs to.....

Dr Solo - Gosh I miss you around here! ;) What's it going to take to get your Zebra Butt to make regular appearances??? I'll see you next weekend, though. YAY! :yay:

MSDave - We Minnie Gals have a little thing that goes like this..."Beep! Beep! Beep!" That's a BIG OL' truck load of :wizard: backing up just for you! Keep us posted. But if you get this position, be sure to tell them right away that you need time off in January. :thumbsup2

Morning team! Yikes, the winter weather keeps coming, but they are still predicting nice weather this weekend. Hard to imagine right now though! Last night it was FREEZING!!! I went out for a 3 mi run before boot camp. My shin felt...okay, but overall my legs weren't really happy. My left knee was actually bugging me. Boot camp went well in the evening, but it was downright miserable outside in the snow and cold wind.

Went to the chiro today to get the shins looked at again, plus he poked around and helped to sort out any issues in my left knee. I'm going to rest up until my 5K on Sunday, but hopefully the race will go okay!

Leana - Good luck this weekend!! I hope the weather cooperates with you, I can't believe it's still so cold...even for Canada.

Judy - Best wishes on that hamstring...make sure you stretch and drink lots of liquids for the next week. Shorter strides are beneficial to the hammys as well :goodvibes:

Michelle - Awesome run!! Don't forget those beneficial rest days ;) If the quads are a little sore, you might want to hold back from running tonight :)

Carrie - Raise the bar girl!! 40 min is no joke and wind is the worst condition to run IMO...good job!! I'm sure you'll be happy with the short hair next weekend in the heat :)

Jen - Don't you hate retiring shoes? I have a closet with a stack of them because I can't get myself to throw them out...amazing how we get so attached to those pieces of leather :) Hope the rest and shoe switch works for you!

Cam - Congrats on completing week 1!! It's so refreshing to see your kind words to everyone...I know you were busy with work for a while, but it's great to see you around so much lately :goodvibes:

Claire - bike, weights, swim...sounds like an awesome Claireathlon was completed yesterday :) Good luck on the short long run today!

Allyson - Yay for completing week 4! Awesome job!

Angie - You are being sooo smart with your training! Very glad to see you held off of the weights this morning...give that back some rest so you can smile pretty for those princess photos next weekend!!

MS Dave - sounds like a nice relaxing day and weekend ahead :rotfl: good luck with everything!

Howard - Why does it not surprise me that you aren't doing much training? LOL

Tracy - I think everyone has had a tough run or two this week! Any thoughts on who is in the coffin?

TX Ang - I think I have a solution...just dip your hair in some kind of ice creamy, chocolaty goodness...then when it gets in your mouth you won't be so bothered by it :rotfl: Thanks for the avatar comment, he makes us smile too...how can you resist that grin!

Krista - How are you?? Any updates to the Hines vs. neighbor issue? Hope your Steelers have a good draft this weekend :)

Stacie - Hello!

Debra - How is the digging going? I keep forgetting to say that I'm amazed at your ability to cover so much of these boards with witty, insightful and meaningful comments...I'm not sure about the whole adoption thing, but it sure is nice to have you around :goodvibes:

Amy - I'm thinking you need to plan some activities for yourself, because you certainly don't have enough to do each day. (KIDDING). Please try and find some time to rest, drink water and map out a touring plan for the upcoming jaunt to Mickey World. On second thought, let's just grab some Mickey bars and Gelato, find a cozy bench in the World Showcase where we can people watch and call it a day ;)

Scott's World - Whew...I must say that I think my typing words per minute has doubled just trying to keep up here! This has to count for some sort of cross training! (and actually a little stressful trying to squeeze in the post before anyone else does!) Anyway...I did 45 minutes on the elliptical last night. Nothing fancy, just straight up listening to the mp3, ellipticizing and sweating up a storm. Tonight I'll do a 5 miler and then squeeze in what I can this weekend. Gonna go to Six Flags on Saturday and then come down and watch the Tour De Georgia finale on Sunday...should be able to workout at the FC and then get a long run in Sunday morning before heading downtown. Then it'll be Minnie Week!! YAHOOO!!

Have a great Friday everyone! Good luck to the weekend racers...stay healthy to the Minnie taperers...and have fun to everyone this weekend!

Happy Friday!

Sorry not able to reply to everyone today. Trying to squeeze this in before getting back to work.

Michelle - WELCOME! This is a great place which I think you've figured out. :goodvibes

Scott - DH is doing a half century ride this year and a full century next year. We love to ride and get this...one of our local bike clubs has a beer ride on Wed nights. Ride then carb up. :rotfl:

Brief update:
Back of my left thigh had been bothering me after Tueday's bad walk so rested it Wednesday and yesterday went for a casual 1.5 mi walk at lunch. Was good to stretch it out but felt it during the uphill. Did pilates last night and feeling much better today. Hoping the rain holds off so can get in 10-15 miles on the bike tonight. Hair appt tomorrow then 6-7 mile walk. That'll be the last of long walks before the Minnie.

Well back to work and finish this day off.

Have a great weekend!!!

Scott,

Thanks!! I see that you do elliptical sessions; would you recommend them as part of training?? I used to work out a lot on an elliptical in college (as the alternative was a treadmill and I don't enjoy running on them) but I never felt like I got quite as good a work out on that as I did with running. But is there a benefit to training with an elliptical for a marathon? I plan on buying some sort of work out machine to aid my training for the days I can't run outside, but would you recommend a treadmill over an elliptical? I really can't buy both, much as I'd like to! Thanks for the help!

Michelle - I highly recommend elliptical workouts as part of a solid cross training program to supplement the runs. It is a great non-impact way to keep the HR up as well as get your legs going in that same running like motion. I've found that my pace on the elliptical almost mimics my pace when running. If you find the workouts getting easy on it, just up the level of difficulty (resistance) and it'll get harder to operate.

I don't think I'd replace runs with the elliptical unless I absolutely had to, so that doesn't help with your treadmill/elliptical dilemma...but I will say that a lot of people overlook the importance of XT during training programs. I find that you have to give the body & knees a break from the pavement pounding, but still workout your heart and cardio system to be able to endure the time out there during the long runs.

If it were me...I'd go for the elliptical only because it's easy to adjust runs due to the weather and I myself only hit the treadmill if I absolutely have to. Also if you look at the fact that you could do the elliptical 6 days a week without injury, but would not want to run on the TM 6 days in a week...I think the elliptical would then be more useful.

Hope I didn't just confuse you, I'm not sure if I got across what I wanted to say :rotfl:

Have a great weekend! :thumbsup2

Stacie- The 8.25 went well. It took just under an hour. I feel like I am in good shape for the Hermes 10 Miler tomorrow.

Kevin- Sentanta Sports covers Ligue 1 and I know DirecTv has them. I have DirecTV but don’t pay the extra $ for Setnata. I bought the sports package though to have FSC and GolTV. The French league is good because it has so many of the young players from Africa. Outside of Lyon there is pretty good parity. If the French government ever gets rid of it’s archaic rules that keep clubs from floating themselves publicly the league should pick up. I have a Marseille jersey and also have a Puleta PSG jersey. It will be unbelievable if they get relegated, but it isn’t looking good for them.

Second, I have received my WDW Half finisher’s cert do you might need to contact Disney Sports and see if they have the correct address.

Happy Aloha Friday everyone.

Good going to everyone doing their road work, fitness center work, biking, etc. Keep it up!

Hot weather and VOG limited my run yesterday to 5 miles. That's okay though, we wrapped up the evening with a BBQ. 9 of us in attendance, and lots of laughs to share.

Have a great day all, see you at the waterstops. :yay:

lol Scott, that answered my question perfectly! The way I see it is, I ran for about 10 years in all kinds of weather... snow, heat, cold, rain. So I think once I get into the routine of running/training everyday (and figuring out when to get my runs in in the winter), there will have to be a pretty good reason to keep me from running outside. Given the fact that I really hate treadmills, I'm thinking the elliptical will be helpful because then I'll be able to incorporate other types of workouts in my training instead of just running! Awesome, thanks!!! and you have a great weekend too! :cool2:

Frank: Thanks SO much for the link to Fox Soccer Channel’s web site. DOOD & I both appreciate it! What does it say about football that the places in Pittsburgh tend to be in the young, hip, heavy-drinking neighborhoods? (I can see I need to adjust my lifestyle.) ;) 8.25 < 60 minutes. Sweeeet.

Claire: Ah, the tyranny of collaborative work. Are you sure you trust your partner with the lit. review revision? You're on the grad-school fast track? A two year or less program? Sounds like intensive study, anyway. I wonder how you have time to fit all your training & activities in, let alone a social life. You've probably got a very balanced outlook on life, huh? Especially about the appeal of schoolwork. :rotfl: :thumbsup2

Stacie: Beware of that garage-apartment offer. I've always wanted to be the Fonz. Aaaaaa! It does sound like hydration was a key factor in your 5-miler, and so I'm glad you bagged the run. I think we all need to be aware of hydration issues in the summer (all the time, but you get the idea). But I'm glad you're thinking through things like hydration and the need for new, exciting scenery!!!

Morgan: No yelling, just happy you signed up for that 5K you obviously wanted to do. And Mr. Grumpy--:rotfl2: --has found some additional running motivation, huh? It's great that you're in this together, as I think it makes a big difference to have each other for support, encouragement, and the occasional taunt.

CB Michelle: Oooh, thanks for the name. Don't you just love the way we'll encourage each other to read and research more, not to mention spend more money! :rotfl: That's great news about your run and exceeding your expectations. I'd love to see you run in bridal ears. :cloud9: And the pictures..... I also recommend the elliptical as part of XT and a purchase, although it always seems like I'm chiming in on Scott's posts with a "Me, too."

Solo Kevin: How are those quads--is the soreness the shoes? FWIW, I'm sure you're more than enough eye candy. Women, we've just got sweet tooths.

Erica: :yay: So glad to see you here, and am super happy I'll get to see you at ToT! How are you recovering?

Amy: Awww, I'd love to be part of your family. And I could learn to use a litter box if necessary. :scared: Sounds like Wedneday's 5 miler was part of the ugly-taper runs. (That's my theory about such runs, anyway, that they're related to taper.) I hope the rest of your days are like great haircuts: fun, easy to manage, and you get lots of positive feedback!

Heather: Wow, what a great quote; I'm proud to know such an well-spoken, thoughtful woman.

Mel/Dana: Thanks for the advice about not blowing off the base/SRs. I think many of us (me included) need to hear this! I tend to focus on the LRs, placing too much importance on them. Building the base and enjoying the SRs are just as important to my running, and racing, goals.

TXAng: Yep, I love DL. Never went until I moved to Fargo, and then it because economically feasible to fly there instead of WDW. We hope to get back there on occasion, maybe for races. I had a similar reaction to you but in reverse; I was afraid I would be disappointed. But I love them both, feeling there's a nice balance between similarities & differences. I hope and believe you'll feel the same way. P.S. We have two big cats (12 & 15 pounds, after dieting) from the same litter, rescue animals.

In bigger news, :woohoo: for finishing another C25K day!!! You're making such good progress!

Aloha Jeff: So Hawaii is a nice getaway from relatives, and not a vacation magnet? I refuse to believe that! I kind of go by the theory that if one wants to avoid unwanted guests, move to a place no one wants to visit.
:lmao: You know, holding barbecues doesn't make your place any less inviting, either!

Angie: Disney, Disney, Disney, you're going to be in Disney! You're going to meet so many of your WISH friends! You'll be with your family!!! :cheer2: Does that help you feel any better? I'm also sending PD for your back, and hoping/believing that you're going to have a good race. P.S. I'm so glad that day off helped break you out of your funk! It so sounds like your new job is the right choice for you.

Bill: You are very wise and articulate. And like Craig, I think you're an integral part of WISH.

Tracy: I didn't watch Lost last night--DOOD was beat & so we went to bed. Thank goodness for our DVR. *Whew* It'll be a Lost/Battlestar Galactica extravaganza! Good hunting! WTG on your 4 miles! How'd the foam roller work; I'm thinking of investing & I know a couple of people here really like it.

Howard: I think Cam is going to want this "Minnie Muffin" off on my own most of the weekend... :rotfl2: I think you've earned this weekend--I know from Cam's journal just how wonderful you are!!! :flower3: Plus, you deserve an early graduation getaway (even though I suspect this is Cam's way of sneakily getting you some really-early Goofy training)!

MSDave: Those kinds of interview schedules are exhausting, aren't they? The search committees so like to hit clean-up, don't they? I'm sure you didn't repeat yourself too much and, if you did do it a little, they need to hear your talking points. Good luck with the selection process. And I can't believe it, but it sounds like your conference is going to be down-time in comparison! Here's crossing my fingers for some good, stress-free runs for you! P.S. Another set of Happy Birthday wishes to your DW's GM.

Monte:  How are you doing, WISHmate?!

Alyson: That's great news of your success with W4 of C25K. About the ankle, are you stretching afterwards?

Craig: I still think you're pretty integral, and part of a core group of WISHers. And I get the impression that an increasing number of WISHers are fairly active & have been throughout their lives, even if not as runners. (Maybe the demographics has shifted, as I'm new?) But if you'd like to do security detail, I do think you'd look pretty smoking in the uniform. Much better than Kevin Costner. Bleh.

HC Kim: Ooooh, you're hooked on tattoos. If you come up with a good one, let me know. I'm not in the market--um, needles!--but DOOD wants to get a marathon one. He's shopping around. (I'm pretty sure I can nix the Tinker Bell, though.)

Cam: I love the enthusiasm of each post, and think your plan for the 5K & 1/2 is going to be such a motivating & exciting time for you. :cool1: And good news about Jenna's promise ring! It sounds like he'll fit right in. I suppose I'll get over not being adopted by you, seeing as you really take care of everyone in your life so well. And I know you've got me in your thoughts, which means a lot. And, big news, :woohoo: for your first week of C25K. I love hearing that people are using the program and are so successful!!

Jen: I hope your new shoes give you equally fond memories. I think they will, even though you say: I am so happy to hear of so many people doing Minnie for fun. That is one thing I say I am going to do and then every race is not so much about the fun. I mean, I have fun... just not all the fun I want to have. Does that make sense?? You know why...there are so many cool people who are going to be at the Minnie & you and the rest of Ohana are going to look mah-va-lous!

Carrie: Sorry about your not-so-great-ending run. But hey, you have standards!!! Somebody has to have some and, to paraphrase Aloha Jeff, it might as well be you. (And far better you than me!) I think 40 minutes is awesome.

Judy: Oooh, I hope your hamstring begin to feel better. I don't know what to say about the Advil thing. I wouldn't recommend it for training, so as to not get into the practice, but I defer to the experts about a race day, one-time thing.

Leana: I hope your knee and shins feel all right for your 5K. The description of your chiro poking around made me kind of laugh, kind of wince, though!

Scott: You just don't want to adopt me because you're afraid you'd have to share Amy's cookies. (And you're right to suspect that.) I have to say that I'm always impressed by your WOs, but this weekend I'm also impressed by your plans. It seems to me to be a near-perfect mix of relaxing activities. And going to Six Flags right before Disney--wow, that'll whet your appetite for the "real deal." I've not been to Six Flags in years, but I live near Kennywood amusement park, so I'm thinking of trying it out.

Liz: Take it easy on the leg, as you've been doing. I think the rest & Pilates will help a lot, as do you I'm sure. WTG taking care of yourself.

P.S. General question: How many of you are getting all primped for the Minnie, with haircuts and all? (Amy, Liz....)

As for me: Ooooh, about 6 hours, on and off, today of touring apartment complexes and rental houses. Fun, fun, fun, with a little weirdness thrown in for variety. :crazy2: We may have found an apartment in an upper-floor of a house, but we're not sure. We may have filed a rental application/credit report, or we may have filed a pre-rental application (the promise ring of rental paperwork). The landlord-in-residence has a heavy accent, is hard of hearing, and seemed unsure himself of the process. But the place is beautiful, cheap, and centrally located, so we're going to trust that his "realtor" friend will work us through the process. Meanwhile, we're going to make a back-up list & continue to see properties. I may have real stories next week.

In more important fronts, I did XT today--including the elliptical Scott & Michelle. I didn't do a full WO, as I was going light on my day & we had people to meet. But I felt pretty darn good and am actually looking forward to testing my legs tomorrow. Thank you all for your support, good advice, and the much-needed jack slaps. (And thank you, Princessrunner Lisa, for that term!)

Howard - Why does it not surprise me that you aren't doing much training? LOL

Scott ~ Believe me when I tell you that I would rather be in a position to be training right along with everyone else. I have been going to graduate school full-time since August 2006 and working part-time (20+ hours a week and full-time in the summer). With full-time classes and work, training is quickly and easily cast aside. Sleep, what little there is, is the only voluntary activity for this tired carcass. Once I am finished, I plan on following a marathon training program (complete with XT) into the fall to get ready for MCM and Philly – then Goofy Plus.

Debra~ I will be getting away, that is for sure, but I hope I can enjoy it without thinking about the “opportunity cost” of the trip. I am doing everything in my power to get things done early and to study on the 2 hours plane ride there and back.

By the way, I am not sweet… I am one of those whole grain Minnie Muffins.

"Opportunity Cost?' I love it. Careful there, or you may end up hanging out with the finance folks.

Good luck with the flat and with tomorrow's effort. I'm not sure where you two are, so you can share that when I see you next.

Cosi Bella

I know you are (1) young and (2) have a history and experience as a runner, so you will quickly get up to speed, so to say. Do build up gently and don't push your body for a while. Even with your past too-much-too-quickly is likely to put you on injured reserve.

Build with lots of easy runs, and a few shorter and quicker, and longer and even easier efforts. Before you know it you'll be back on form.

Hey all you crazy and wacky people!! (me included)

Today is a rest day for me. I did some Pilates for Dummies and alittle bit of foam roller.

Michelle: Glad to hear you had a nice 3 miles.

Debra: I am always so amazed at how you keep up with everyone and I like that I am included in your posts. :) I like my foam roller so far. It takes some getting use to and it does benefit your abs, shoulders, triceps. Scott asked me who I think is in the coffin (I hope you have watched LOST by now?) Sayed(sp?) says its his wife...I think this flash is a flash future, so not sure. I don't think its the lady he killed in the hotel room on a earlier episode.
Apartment hunting...ugh! I hope you find something you really like.

Take care everyone, trying to stay caught up and my comcast broadband is out. Supposedly a outage in the area, ugh. My dialup speed is 16.8kbps.
Oh, well, take care.

MSDave - Welcome back! I've been lurking occasionally on the Philly thread and know you've had a tough time. Good luck on the interview process, crazy as it sounds! And happy birthday to DW's grandmother.

Carrie - Thank you SO much for your view of us! I truly believe the strength of WISH is that everyone else believes we can do much more than we might believe of ourselves otherwise, and that's what keeps us moving forward each and every day (or, as someone once said. "kind of a magic that lives inside all of us!")

Cosi Bella/Michelle - I bought the TM so I'd have the freedom to run whenever I needed to fit it into the schedule, without worrying about time, weather, or dangers lurking outside. My runs end up being about 50/50 indoor/outdoor.

Debra - I broke the news gently to DH that DOOD is a Chelsea fan. I was afraid he'd disconnect the internet access in the house so I couldn't talk to you any more!

Stacie - If I'm planning on running in the afternoon I have to make a conscious effort to alternate the sweet tea with water. I did such a good job today that I had to stop after 2 miles for a bathroom break!

Kevin/Solo - No, no! Don't lay off preaching the B&S gospel. No one I know is watching the show. I need someone to know why I stay up late (or lately, watch it on the TM on Monday AM!)

Erica - Oh, the hiccups... DD17 spent 3 months solid (or so it seemed) with the hiccups. I still haven't completely forgiven her...

Amy - Do we need to have a hydration reminder? Apparently some of us aren't prepared for warmer weather? HYDRATE, HYDRATE!

Bill - Your comments to Craig were absolutely perfect!

Cam - Yes, it's hard to believe my baby is looking at colleges. (And then there are days when it can't come soon enough!) Congrats to Jenn! Is she still planning on doing the half in January?

My world: Went out this afternoon with the plan to do 3-4 miles. Completed 3.77 in 45:11 for an 11:59 avg pace. I don't think the Garmin completely paused for the above-mentioned bathroom break, so it clocked mile 2 at 12:45 when the others were 11:44, 11:30 & 11:55. I realized halfway through the run that my form is all wrong (which DH has been trying to tell me for 2 years). I apparently put most of the force on my lower legs, so I concentrated on using the upper legs for the bulk of the effort. Suddenly everything got MUCH easier! I doubled the distance between walk breaks and finished the run without anything hurting. Now I'm wondering how much better I'll do if I actually FINISH "Chi Running"...

Allie...HI! Are you loving your Garmin??? I really enjoy mine. I just do the basic stuff. I do love it though.

Stacie

Stacie - Yes I LOVE my Garmin!   It takes all the thinking out of running. Since I was no good with the :teacher: in my head. :rotfl2: Sorry you had to cut your run short, but it sounds like it was the best thing. That tea may have dehydrated you too. Especially if it had caffiene.

Thanks guys for the great advice! I've never been "fitted" for running shoes, but I really think this occasion warrants it! I'll keep everyone posted on how that goes! For now, i'll break out the dusty nike's and start from there.

OH! my name! I completely forgot to introduce myself in that respect!

until tomorrow! (I really need to get some work done!)

CBMichelle (stealing Debra's nickname for ya' ;) ) - :welcome: I can't remember if I had said that yet or not. :confused3 I turned 40 last Friday, and the mind has just gone right out the window. :rotfl2: Actually, it was already half way there before the b'day. :rolleyes1

I can't stress enough how important it is to get yourself "fitted" for the proper shoes. I injured myself early on because I was "too cheap" to buy the proper shoes. Well, I spent the money anyway. I just paid it to the DR. :scared:

I think the :bride: ears are a great idea!!

AL Front (that's me): I ran my first 6 miler yesterday. I did it in 1:20. It was a little off my pace that I am supposed to strive for this month, but I finished and that is what was important to me. Plus, I also ran it at 3:45 yesterday afternoon. Probably not the best time for running a LR. :sad2: I tried the sport beans, but it wasn't as successful as I thought it would be. I'll try again later. May not have eaten enough, or not had enough water to take with them. :confused3 I just can't believe that I ran 6 MILES!!!! :thumbsup2 OH, and I wore a new "real running shirt" that my sister sent me for my birthday. :thumbsup2

Hi guys...

OK...exciting day for me :). I did a 3 mile tempo run followed by 1 mile cool down. I did my 3 miles in 25:11 (yay!!). Just was nice after a really stinky 5 miler the other day. THEN...to make my day wayyy cooler...I saw Dave Navarro at the sushi restaurant I went to. Sorry..I'm such a celebrity freak...that was so cool. And wow...he was pretty short LOL. Isn't that always how it works?

OK...tomorrow I will catch up with everyone. This was ALL about me. Sorry! Hope everyone is doing well :).

Opportunity cost - Yikes! -sounds like somebody who is about to get an MBA!:thumbsup2

There are just way too many comments that ran through my head regarding the whole grain Minnie Muffin comment, so I am going to just leave that alone! I hope you both have a great trip - enjoy yourself! There is always a flip side to every opportunity cost!

Being a simple country boy I have no idea what y'all are talking about. Is that like if you get an opportunity to spend the money you found under the porch that you forgot was there.

Anyway, have an awesome weekend team.

WOW this thing is just "truckin' this week

Vic I hope you have fun a Talledega. I am just thrilled that for the first time in several years I didn't have to fight that traffic on my weekly commutes to Birmingham. (Althougth those may be back soon YIKES!)

Anyway, I joined the local Galloway group getting ready for the Peachtree 10K today. The run/walk thing seems like it might be a good plan. I found a set of instructions on the web to do my Garmin that way. We did 3 miles with an avg. 11:30 pace according to the leaders.

I am SUPPOSE to do an 8 mile TR this weekend for Minnie. My left calf however is SCREAMING after the 3 miler... not sure what I am going to do. Maybe I will try ice tonight. Not sure what to do....I don't think ti's an injury but it hurts LOL!

Monte: I CANNNOT believe that you are still getting snow. We're working on summer down here. Sorry about that, just means you need a trip down south. haha.

Amy: good run and good celebrity spotting!!

Aloha Jeff: Thanks for the well wishes, I will try to take lots of photos. I like taking my camera and catching the action as it happens. (BTW, I love says aloha all the time when I stay at the Poly!!)

As for me: Here's a photo of me after I got back from my walk of 4 miles today.

I have this shirt as a back up if my Eye2Eye shirt doesn't come by the time I leave on Friday. I love the Visor!!
Did my 4miles with an even 14min pace. Pretty good and felt better than the 4 miles I did the other night.

GOOD AFTERNOON TEAM!!!

My day off yesterday was glorious and today was great too!!! Because I had all my "chores" I got to play today.

Started with 1/2 hour elliptical, man you can really get a good workout on that thing if you try -- I don't hate it so much anymore. Then did 30 minute - kick butt!!!! core class, JUST WHAT I NEED. Then did my wieghts in Body Pump but was smart and no wieght for squats, opted out of dead lifts and clean and press and no wieght for lunges. AND GUESS WHAT???

This is the least my back has hurt in quite some time  So DH is going to run with me tomorrow to keep me at a sane pace, I love that man, he is a saint :) I don't know how far yet but I will let you guys know how it goes.

So now DH and I are going out to dinner to celebrate my new job, and, oh yeah, BTW - went to the beach today :cool2: Sporting my first sunburn of the season. Sometimes I love living in FL!!!

Hey Team - Guess What.... IT'S SNOWING!!! Yah, there are flurries in the air. It is SOOOOO cold and windy and down right miserable. I can't wait to fly to Florida for the weekend just to warm up!!!

Monica... Yup, snowing here also. I feel your pain. You have it worse tho as I know you still have snow on the ground.

Thanks Angie!! I got it from NewBalance, the color is called Limelight. I think its pretty close. Yeah on the back :cool1: , but you should know better living in FL and getting a SUNBURN!! Shame on you!

Jen: Yikes, you too with the snow, what is this world coming to?:) :)

PiratesRock: Yeah :cheer2: Congrats on the 1/2. Isn't it a thrill!!
( I had to giggle at the, "for the love of Pete" comment. My boss always says that. hehe)

I'm going to check out the eyetoeye shirts. I was checking out everybody's gear and shoes today. Made me feel like the poor step-child! But I walked the 1/2 in 3 hrs 34 min and that's with very little preparation. That time might not impress the runners and veteran's, but I was tickled pink! princess: My goal was just to complete it! Didn't care how long it took.

Welcome to the Galloway group! Our kickoff is next weekend and the first run is the 10th. I'm looking forward to getting back into it. I did R3/W1 all last year and through the half in January. I LOVE the the run/walk intervals, although I do plan to try to do a little more running on my shorter mid-week runs this year.

The weather here was fabulous for our marathon this morning. We had storms during the night that tapered off near 7 then low 60's with a light breeze through the morning. Really helped me with getting to the finish. It really was a perfect initiation into the marathons.

Jackie - I didn't realize you stuck with 3/1 last year. Your times were great!! I want to add longer running intervals also. I am currently doing that with my short runs, but I slow down the longer I run.

PiratesRock - WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!

I posted this on this weeks thread but just in case

Garmin instructions for interval training were here.

Garmin is below the watch part at the top.
