:wave2: Hi everyone! My name is Beaner, and my Mommy and I are going to visit the Mouse.
The Dates:
Wednesday, September 17th-Sunday, September 21st (Originally supposed to be during Columbus Weekend, but that didn't seem to work out, so I am taking some days off and going in Sept.)
The Resort:
Weeeelllll...I haven't really made an official decision as to where we are staying. There are a lot of variables, but I would ultimately like to stay at POFQ, but we'll most likely stay at POP. I have nothing against Pop, but Ellie's never stayed at a Mod...only All Stars.
The Flights:
:cool1: Luckily Southwest recently put out this awesome "ding" fare. The "ding" is as follows...15% off...that's right 15% off! Well, as my family was supposed to take a trip in January that had to be canceled, we had a few vouchers that we ahem, needed to use. It ended up because of this discount that our flights were free to us, anyway. We'll be flying down after school on the 17th and then back in the morning on the 21st (maybe I can convince Ellie to come back that evening, but we'll see!)
The Cast:
Me: Beana, Kathleen, Kat, Kath. A 28 year old Dis lover from age 3. When I was 3, I took my first trip to the Dis along with my mommy (DM) Ellie (you'll meet her soon), my Aunt Cathy(DAC), and my grandmother, Nanny. Nanny has a house in Florida, and every year as a child my DAC and I would fly down to visit the Nanster. As I got older, getting off school was harder and our yearly trips got cut short. My 2 most recent trips were a solo/other side of the family trip in Aug '07 for my other grandmother's surprise 80th birthday. Before that...well, that was February of 2004 (ghasp, yes, 3 and a half years between trips). I am a teacher:teacher: and taking trips to the DIS is hard and EXPENSIVE for us, as when we can travel, every other kid and their family can travel. But, I love what I do, and know that the school year will have just started, but.....
DM: Ellie, Ellen, Noonie, Ma. A 52 year old Dis lover, yet not often tripper. The last time she was in the Dis was in 2000. Ol' Ma and I went January 3, 2000, ya know, right after Y2K. We figured we'd give them 2 days to figure everything out before we arrived...hehe. I have been trying to get her on a plane since then, but ever since 9/11 she's been leary. (We live on Long Island...9/11 was very close to home, as many of you NYers know.) She is a retired Telephone Company employee :surfweb: ...and loving every minute of retirement.
More to come...itineraries, dining, and such, but here's the appetizer....My plan is to make a link to each update on this first post...but we'll see how it goes. Thanks for reading!

04-19-2008, 08:57 PM
Well, here is a mini update.
I figured I'd give you the abbreviated trip itinerary.
Wednesday, Sept 17-Arrive to either POP or POFQ around 9:30 (flight lands around 8:05, but who knows if that’ll be the truth). Relax, unpack when ME delivers our luggage, and maybe grab some grub
Thursday, Sept 18-EPCOT day….then apparently there is a party at the POP hippy dippy pool…I don’t know much about it, but I have been invited, and would love to be there (as long as Ellie doesn’t get upset we’ll miss Illuminations)
Friday, Sept 19-DHS day…until around 4:45, then we have dinner at Kona, then MNSSHP
Saturday, Sept 20-MK day until around 2:45, then we have an afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian. After that we will probably relax for a bit and maybe hit LaNuba, and dinner at Raglan Road, but I have not made ARS for that yet….any ideas?!
Sunday, Sept 21-Leave for home...:sad1:

Hey Beana. I would love to hopefully meet. I think we are also going to do the MNSSHP on the 19th. I do also want to meet up with everyone at the pool party. Have you booked a room yet? I ask because pop is sold out with dinning for my dates. I tried to modify my reservation and they told me I could not come in a day earlier due to no rooms w/ the dinning promotion. It is available without the package.

wow, they sold out pretty quick! Glad I made my Mom book early! (actually, I booked for her with my Disney Visa on the 9th to make SURE they got a room :thumbsup2 )
Last year I think I called late in May or early June and there was only one value resort (the All Star Sports) available for my dates. They fill up fast! After all, free dining REALLY appeals the most to those who are trying to go to Disney as cheap as possible!
Beana I hope you book soon and are able to get the resort you want! Good luck!

Great job Beana, I love your itinerary.:thumbsup2

Short Rant here...
Sooo...on the top of the screen it says "welcome, Beana9802, you last visited: Today at 9:54AM"
Now, I only woke up at 10:15 this morning, so something strange is going on here. I called my parents and asked if they accidentally went on my Dis (Ellie said, I wouldn't even know how to get on there!, Noobs!) Anyway, I lost all of my "New Posts" and have to go back and read them one by one. If I missed anything on your board, I am trying to go back now and catch up. Please do me a favor, and change your password, incase those Haaaaackers from the other day did anything...

Stupid hackers!:headache:  Not sure if you were hacked. This seems to happen to me all the time. Also, note that the DIS clock is always off several minutes from "real time". I wouldn't worry about someone getting into your account, but it is annoying to have to dig for new posts.
For example, this post says it was made at 12:26pm, but the real time is 12:48pm.

Ahem... ok, here goes:
never been to San Angel but the setting looks so nice. I say give it a shot.
I'd upgrade dinner to the Bistro, but Chefs is gud.
We like lunch in MGM at Rosie's burger stand next to ToT and RRC. Gud burgers, cheap, beer nearby.
I love Raglan and Cirque Rules! I've seen them all.
Dinner before or after the show? popcorn::

Time flies), My friend Megan was teaching second grade and she was doing the Flat Stanley Project and the kids had to choose a state that a relative lived in. Well, her student, Kasey, wanted to send it to Hawaii, and well...we lied and said that I was visiting my cousins in Hawaii during Feb break. Lapu Lapu
from Tambu Lounge, Polynesian Resort (#1 most popular drink in WDW)
1 ounce Myer's Rum
1/2 ounce Bacardi 151
Scorpion Mix (consists of half-and-half sour mix and orange juice) (made my own sour mix)
Enough ice to chill it, crushed so it fits in the pineapple
Garnish: Cherry
Served in: Hollowed fresh pineapple, the pineapple stem is the lid with a small wedge removed so a straw can be inserted. Cut the leaves off the stem and reattach to the "lid" using a shortened toothpick. Make a slice off the bottom of the pineapple so it will sit upright properly and not tip over. Yes, this means the bottom will be moist and sticky.

Lapu Lapu
from Tambu Lounge, Polynesian Resort (#1 most popular drink in WDW)
I found that recipe here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1575103)
Sounds tasty to me!!!
sticky bottoms :rotfl2:
Wonderfully gross

Well, I have decided to come up with a park by park wish list.
September 18, 2008 EPCOT:
Well, that morning we are either eating at the resort OR going to KONA for breakfast. Once we arrive at EPCOT, it is my desire to take my DM onto Soarin', then get FP for Soarin’, Ride the Land and walk over to Test Track. Depending on the line for Spaceship Earth I would like to see the new and improved SE. We have never spent time in Innoventions, and I'd like to leisurely walk around and see what it's all about.
I would love to walk through the gardens, and head towards Mexico...I know that's the opposite direction, but we can meander...
Once in Mexico, we will ride El Rio Del Tiempo (with the Tres Amigos) and then shop in the market. Grab some lunch in the Cantina de San Angel. After that, head towards Maelstrom and take a little walk through Norway. My good friend Kristy is Norwegian, so I would like to get her a Norwegian Mickey Head pin. After those needs are met...we can walk through the rest of the countries. I would like to show my mom the Mitsukoshi shopping mall in Japan. Also, meander through the other countries, grab a beer in Germany. We have 5:30 ADR's at Les Chefs de France and I would like a Grand Marnier slush afterwards. I might want to make our ADRs for later, but we'll see...
We have to visit Ellen's Energy, as Ellen is my mom's name...and we love her humor, and return for our other Soarin' trip, but we'll have to do that at some point...
Here is my dilemma. I  Illuminations. That is one of my favorite things to see. However, I know that there is a really cool DIS Meet at Pop with all you cool folks. Would you mind if I came after Illuminations? Ellie will have to make the ultimate decision, as this trip is for her...But.
Let me know what you think of EPCOT. I am open to Suggestions.

good plans! I say do Illuminations if that is your only chance to see it. Are you going to have a car to drive out of the park or do you have to go with the masses onto the buses? (sorry, I'm too lazy to go back and check) I hope you'll be able to make it to our DISmeet even if you're a little (or a lot  ) late

"Yes, I just emailed the two travel agents I am using (I am not sure which one I am going to actually use) for quotes on POFQ and Caribbean Beach (I stayed there in August, and loved it!) I stayed in POR in 96, and maybe, that's a poss too"
SO glad to hear you loved CB! This will be my first time staying on-site, although Mom went with all her sister's (4 of 'em!) in 1998 and she can't remember if she stayed at the Poly or Boardwalk?!:confused3 I know CB's main pool will be closed for at least half of our stay....but we...wait Mom...is not a big swimming gal. Actually swimming is really my ONLY sport (bwaaaahaaa~I'm not exactly athletic:sad2: ) that and walking....as long as I don't have to chew gum while I'm doing it:lmao:
We hadn't really thought about doing MNSSHP.....but now I'm thinking.....;) (I love Halloween~it's my Anniversary!)
SO, how does one procure an invitation to this Hippy Dippy Pool Party?
I haven't posted my ADR's on my ptr yet....cause I'm thinking about changing some of them......:rolleyes1 The lapu lapu is at the Kona Cafe right?

I love love loved CB! And...I don't athletically swim, and neither does Ellie. We both want to just cool off. We used to have a pool at my grandmothers, but that was lost in a hurricane my freshman year of college...so we always love pools when we get a chance. There are a bunch around the resort, I never swam in the main pool anyway.
We hadn't really thought about doing MNSSHP.....but now I'm thinking.....;) (I love Halloween~it's my Anniversary!)DO IT! It is my mom's favorite holiday! We can do a Mom/Daughter fun night! (even if we just do a mini meet!)

Liberty Tree Tavern's characters dress-up in costumes for MNSSHP.
Grand Floridian: 1900 Park Fare, Grand Floridian Cafe
Poly: O'Hana's
Contemporary: their new restaurant The Wave will be open by then or Chef Mickey's
Those would be my top choices -- with LTT topping the list.

I hope you can talk your mom into Kona. I have never been there, but I keep hearing about it and it sounds sooo good. Liberty Tree would be fun too though with the characters in their Halloween costumes.
That is a cute flat stanley story, my daughter did that in 2nd grade too. Her Flat Stanley went to PA to visit her aunt, with a road trip to NJ! He missed a trip to Europe by a few days. She brought him home the day before my dad & stepmom left Florida for their vacation.

Thanks for the phone call yesterday, Beana. I'm glad you all had such a great time. I want to see all of the pictures everyone took. I'm looking forward to getting Minnie soon. She will be a special addition to the collection.
I know Nicole is heading south, but maybe now that you NY guys have met, you can plan some other get-togethers occasionally and even more people can come and become Dis friends.

I am not going to try to compete with the wonderful accounts of KatGarcia, ScottNy, nor Nicole726...but here are my pics from our lovely evening...
Noonie and I took the 3:10 train out of Ronkonkoma (about a 1 1/2 hr east of NYC. We arrived to Penn around 5:40. We then took the E train up to 53&5th and I swear we were in China...we took like 17 flights of stairs to reach the street. Sheesh! After a pleasant walk around 5th ave and 6th ave (we made a stop at the cigar shop on 6th for some apparently really nice tobacco for my step-dad, I have NO idea!:sad2: ) We finally reached..http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f210/Beana9802/NYCDisMeet5-08/NYCDisMeet.jpg
The MOTHERSHIP!:cloud9:
Noonie and I walked around the shop for a few minutes, then I stepped outside and saw Kat and KC! (They are SOO cute!) KC was chatting with an old friend, so Kat and I chatted until CamelotCats, ScottNY, and KimAshton showed up.
I took this pic:

While we were chatting, Angela (CamelotCats) and I found some peeps....and needed to take a pic...http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f210/Beana9802/NYCDisMeet5-08/NYCDisMeet_01.jpg
We did some shopping and called MeMom...she wanted a special present...so we were going back and forth...we finally decided on a Statue of Liberty Minnie (so cute!)
Here are Cap'n Nicole and Kim Pan..

YOu can get an Amtrak train out of 30th Street Station in Philadelphia that will go into Penn Station in NYC. You can also take a train or a bus out of Mt. Laurel that goes into NYC. I wouldn't drive either its nuts in that traffic and you would so get lost. Not that you would drive there anyway. Maybe you can all go there one day when DH is off.

Thanks so much for going to the trouble of doing the mailing. Do you just want me to mail you the money to repay the postage, or would you rather get repaid in a Disney way when I'm down there. I didn't know if there's something down there you might be wanting or needing. Let me know.
I'm heading over to Nicole's PTR to tell her thanks, too.

You are too funny! :goodvibes I am glad you are enjoying it.
Here's how sad I am: not only am I planning on going ahead and putting the money in the tip envelopes before we even leave, I also figured out what everyone would probably order (I erred on the side of the more expensive items and 20% as the tip amount) and calculated the tip. I figure if it turns out that I need to tip less, it will be easy to take some of the money out. Also, several of the meals are buffets so that makes it even easier to figure out the tip.
Yes, I am that OCD. :lmao:

Here's how sad I am: not only am I planning on going ahead and putting the money in the tip envelopes before we even leave, I also figured out what everyone would probably order (I erred on the side of the more expensive items and 20% as the tip amount) and calculated the tip. I figure if it turns out that I need to tip less, it will be easy to take some of the money out. Also, several of the meals are buffets so that makes it even easier to figure out the tip.
Yes, I am that OCD. :lmao: But you anal ness will save me some time...and have me prepared properly....how much do you tip a buffet?
:thumbsup2 Your ADRs sound great!
:woohoo: For adding Kona!
Raglan Road sounds good, I'd like to try it sometime! :woohoo: is right! I am excited!!!

They're sending out the stimulus checks in order of the last two digits of people's social security numbers. Go on the IRS web site and check where your number falls and that should tell you when you are getting your stimulus check. Plus it is also different if you filed electronically or through the mail. People that filed electronically are getting theirs back faster.

I went ahead and figured 20% on buffets also, although in the real world I would never do that. At WDW our servers have always been so outstanding at the buffets that I tip the same as table service. Again, if I am disappointed I can just take some out.

Good luck getting your check soon!
We got a letter last Monday Saying we should receive our check that Friday, but we didn't get the check until this Monday. Glad we filed with my DH SS# first, its much lower than mine!
I had not even thought about cash for tipping. I charge everything, but with the DP I would want to tip in cash. Not sure if we are doing the DP yet, but glad you guys made me think about that. I am going to have to go read your tr to for more OCD ideas. :lmao:
I love to plan and organize, I'm just not good at getting everything done ahead of time.

I use the slow cooker once a week lately. Yesterday I made ribs. Just throw them in with a little beef broth and some sauces (in this case-honey, bbq sauce, honey mustard, soy sauce) and cook for 5 hours- they melt off the bone! I can def hook you up with recipes!
KC works most weekends but only until 5 so I could always meet you in the city and he can meet us later in the day?! Maybe a few weekends from now? My birthday is in June too, I'm not sure what we are doing yet tho, I'll let you know!
