So I am going to iron on names that the incredible AMY made for me using Sea World images.

My question, I'm ironing on a blue t-shirt and normally I understand that you would use a dark transfer paper but if I use a light transfer then I won't have to cut all the letters b/c the white parts would be the color of the shirt, right? But does that mean that any white parts on the letters will also be the color of the shirt?

Yes, light transfers are actually clear and white does not print (because your paper is usually white) so anything white is shirt color...think of it like printing on a colored construction paper.

So if I'm going to put the names on the t-shirts then I'll have to cut the letters out if I want to see just the name and not the white in between the names. Is that right? Sorry, I'm really confused.

Yes or use dark transfer paper, which is like printing on white paper, it has a white background. :) It's ok, it will become crystal clear once you print one.

So after all the questions I had I went and put another design in the front of the t-shirt where I was going to put the name. Here's a question for you, would you put the name on the back of the shirt? I was going to try and put it under the design in the front but then there's too much going on. The back would be the only place but I'm not sure it looks good or makes sense in the back. What do you think?

A lot of people do put the name design on the back. Make sure you protect the first design when you iron on the second one.

You might want to read this thread if you haven't already:

Oh yes I have read that thread and printed it out. Thank you so much. I guess I'll get to cutting now.:)

I did the name designs on the front and the other design on the back. These had a background close to the color of the shirt so I used the dark transfers.
