Happy New Year, everyone! We had a nice night at a neighbor's house (kids and grownups, with takeout dinner). Trey got a call about 4pm for a transplant, so he was at the hospital, but at least someone out there got a new heart for the new year!

Happy New Year guys!
I have been busy - spent the whole morning taking down Christmas decorations, and we had everyone over for dinner tonight.
Good luck to all of you selling a house - be glad it is not in Ohio, although I wonder if the market is any better in NC or OR.

I know what you mean Angie...I am a liasion to several departments and although I have taken over for the Cath Lab.....my word I have spent so much time with the Director and learned a ton in the clinical sense....
two areas close to my heart and life are cancer - my Grandaddy died from cancer of the bile duct and (eta: my sister has heart issues not Grandaddy)heart issues. My sister has hole in her heart - a pretty serious one ------ but, even though it was supposed to be replaced with animal (pig) valves a long time, she is doing well. She goes in every 6 months for an EKG and other tests and since she hasn't "grown" enough, at this point they won't replace it. Of course she is not supposed to ride any of the big rides at WDW or anywhere for that matter nor even drink Red Bull, which she does all the time.
Not to diminish any other disease or issue, but even though I have no clinical background I have been very blessed to work with some wonderful clinicians. And I have to say, our cath department....is really great....(aside from one mishap) but what got me was last week when the CN gentelman would not let them admit him until he knew how much the cath would cost.....I know I worry about costs as well, but we are a community hospital.....we won't even go after the bad checks.....!

I would love a big screen iMac, but don't want to give up the laptop, so this would be a perfect solution. If it was the smaller sub-notebook everyone keeps talking about it would be even better.
I really loved my 12'' Powerbook that Amy now uses. I like my MacBook, but that 12" form factor seemed just right.

Well I had a really good day today. :thumbsup2
My boss called me into his office today and I was offered a DBA (database administrator) position. :yay: I don't know if you all remember but I interviewed for the position back in November and it came down to me and one other person and the other person got it. Well they had a DBA announce he was leaving and rather than post another position they decided since they liked me so much that they would offer the position to me! :cool1: It even comes with a small raise. :worship:
I will stick with my current assignments until March 1st so I can finish up year end processing/taxes, etc. but then I move on to my new assignment. I told them I would think about it over the weekend but I know I want the job. I am so excited...I didn't realize how badly I wanted this until I didn't get it the first time. ;)
Another big plus is that since they don't have a big year end rush kind of thing like you find with payroll it is a very good chance that I can get the time off to go on our Dec '08 cruise as planned. :woohoo:

We had a tornado :scared1: yesterday. It was across the bridge in Vancouver, WA. Very, very unusual for this area. It looks cute and more importantly not too difficult. ;) Use ice cream cones for the turrets - how cool is that. I am starting to get excited about planning my girly princess party. :)

Stay safe out there. We get tonados around here a lot - in fact we had a few on Monday. I hate them...just way too scary for me. Unfortunately I have been very close to 2 tornados in my lifetime and that is two too many. :sad2:

We had an F0 (low on scale but still caused damaged and scary) hit our neighborhood in Germantown, MD in Fall 2004.
Sky turned green and i was ready to dive under my desk at work since we had glass windows all around. (i only worked a couple miles away from home then)
It's path was almost right over dd's elementary school and they locked the kids in (because it happened right before dismissal time.)
Some of the rows of townhouses near there had their roofs picked up and lost their chimneys or decks.
Our section was a mile away so just a few shingles, some siding pieces off, and some fascia boards.
Tornados are pretty common to Fredneck too.... We've been lucky though.

It has been really bad here at the office - too many issues, and I have a killer headache today.
The other day, I got a call from school, and Sophia was wearing headphones and one of her new pierced ear rings (which I was dreading anyway) went INTO her ear lobe! Amy had to deal with that!
Last night we spent hours going over voter registration lists for our seventh levy try (I went to bed early with a headache) . . . this morning the Board of Education elected me President - AGAIN . . . I got a year off . . . tonight we have a Basketball game, and tomorrow is Disney HS Musical on Ice (which Sophia does not yet know about).
Not much DIS time!
Hey PJ, any chance snagging an Apple Blue Concierge shirt? I LOVE the other ones - wearing them out!

01-11-2008, 02:05 PM
Oh No John, can't get that one. We don't like the Apple store up here, they have salespeople who will lie to customers then we have to deal with the fallout, and they don't like us, because we actually know what the products do.
So, Mr President the other guy/gal couldn't handle the heat, eh?
Is Sophia ok, I had earring issues, my brother pulled and both of them got torn, and now I have funny looking holes.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday. I finally was feeling better this week only to catch another cold....how does that always seem to happen? Oh well..it doesn't seem like a really bad one but I hope I am feeling better soon because I have a lot to do this week to get ready for DD's birthday party. :)
I have been doing a little research for our December cruise. I know many of you are cruising veterans. Any must do's on the Eastern itinerary? DS will be 6 1/2 and DD will be almost 4 so most of the DCL excursion are out for us. So far what looks most appealing is just some beach time.

That would be Nathan's. He is obsessed with Pokemon right now - it might even be bigger than Power Rangers which I was not sure was possible. Turtwig is his favorite Pokemon and when DH saw it at the store a few days before Christmas he just had to pick him up. :)

Thanks everyone! We really had such a great time. It was exactly what we all needed.
Lisa - That picture was taken at MGM when she and I were waiting for DH and DS to finish something. She was just playing with the big Mickey balloons we had gotten earlier in the day. She spent 10 minutes just playing and running around and doing what 2 year olds do. It was fun to watch and I just love the way that picture turned out...it is one of my favorites of her.

Hey everyone! Just catching up now. Crazy week again! My washing machine broke, and then the basement flooded. Lucky for me I have the disaster recovery company on speed dial. The insurance adjuster has been here and they have taken the walls down. The carpet is coming out tommorow and the furniture is either going to a repair specialist or being totalled by the insurance company. It did not seem as bad as our last flood, but apparently it was.
It sounds like a real bummer, but Steve and I have been through this so much we are getting really good at it and we NEVER fight about the big stuff. Weird huh!

LOL! I totally understand. Just wait until Aly gets into them. OY! Both of the kids LOVE PM right now and each has two GBA games, several boxes of cards and K got a Game Cube came for Christmas. Listening to them I swear it sounds like a different language. I sat down with William one afternoon and made him explain to me how they play the card game. They have to add and subtract in their head to keep track of how much power their PM has after each attack and they also read the cards. They are coming up with some pretty advanced words too so I suppose that something that promotes math and reading has to be okay. :)

I really like it. I have had a few minor issue with it locking up - mostly when I am in iPhoto. I also have not been able to do any photo resizing (not cropping but actually resizing of the pictures) with iPhoto and I really expected that to work. I guess I need to get photo editor software but I don't want to pay for Photoshop.

ATT celluar has always been very good to us. (Cingular was the slackers.) I still have a corporate discount with them and they've credited me when i had problems (Cell tower near our home was down for 2 weeks after hurricanes a couple years ago and they gave me a month credit; Someone stole DH's phone and ran up over $50 in downloads in a couple hours. They knew it wasn't us as we'd never done it before.)

Thank God for those thoracic surgeons, and for the Cath Lab Nurses and Technicians. I spent a few hours experiencing that magic. 5 times in the cath lab. I remember having the urge to sing the roto-rooter song during the atherectomy. ROTFLOL. And I told my Doc that I had an old guitar string out in the car if it would help, when the cath lab personnel couldn't find the proper catheter to use. He laughed, but the rest of the staff just gave me a funny look. ROTFLOL again. YES, cath labs can be fun.
I used to mix cardioplegias for some of the early bypass surgeries in the early 80's. Dr Kwon was amazing back then. That field has come so far, thank goodness, or I might not be here. At that time, Kwon was the highest paid surgeon in the world. He had a nasty disposition though. Whew.
I know this post is way late, but I am always way behind. Sheesh.

Hello friends! Hope all is going well with you.
It's good here in California, though we have had some bad storms (for California, anyway)...
Work is good, and we are in a bit of a lull after year-end busy time. I am working on building a portrait photography business and it has been lots of fun. Cannot wait until our cruise in December. I missed going to WDW this holiday :(
Joy,
I would love to hear about your Portrait Photography business. Do you have a studio now? Wow. Cool. I used to do that part time and I have a bunch of studio gear packed away. That is my favorite area of photography. I love working with the lights. I have 4 White Lightening monolights and about 10 stands, backdrop stands and a bunch of backgrounds, etc. I wanted an RZ 67, but too expensive for me back then.
Have you heard of Charles J Lewis ? I have his whole course. Anyway, I am excited for you. It is a fun business, and very rewarding if you work too. Taking oictures isn't really work for me. The books and business management was work. LOL.
Angie says I can make you a real deal on some of my stuff. LOL. Well, Maybe....?? It is hard to part with it. She thinks it is extra baggage right now. LOL.

I wonder how much a digital 8 x 10 back would be for a Deardorf or Wista view camera. hmmmmm???? I do have a 5 x 7 Speed Graphic, film holders, tanks, film carriers, etc. ,and an old 5 x 7 enlarger. I never use them though. No darkroom anymore. That kind of photography is the ultimate, but very expensive to get into. Whew. One good 90mm lens costs more than my camera and lens put together. Then, a Good view camera is $$$$$. YIKES. I do have some wide format work I have done. One of my architectural photos was published in Photographers Forum many years ago. Ah, the good old days.

No studio. I plan to use natural light and focus on outdoor location photography. I would like to get a backdrop stand and backdrops eventually, and some lighting, for those days in wintertime when we can't go outdoors... but even then, as long as we can move some furniture around in the house and get near a big enough window, it should be okay.
I have not heard of Charles J Lewis. I am still just learning and building a portfolio. I am going to a seminar next month with Ed Pierce (Captivated by the Light). The books and business management are the easy part for me. Learning about the light and the exposure are challenging, but ever since it clicked for me (such an a-ha moment!), I have been a fiend to try new and different things and the kids are just DONE with posing for me because they are tired of it.
If you really are serious about getting rid of you stuff, send me a list of what you have... I will see if I can invest some more money into it. I am saving up for a 40D too.
Do you think I could contract with a few of you to shoot your next cruise? and then I'd have to write that off as a business expense right? With my 3 assistants in tow? :)

Available light photography is great. It really sharpens your skills. Then it becomes easy, using the sunny 16 rule, etc., to be able to judge light, even without a meter., although a meter reading is always best. Digital is a new learning curve for me, but I really like my Canon 40D. I am still keeping my film cameras, but hope I will be able to still use them in the future. I am worried about film and stuff. I like the Kodak Portra films for portrait work, so hope they will still be available.
All you willl need is a couple of good reflectors, and an assistant or a stand for them. It is exciting stuff.
The contract idea sounds interesting. I would be open for that. Let me know the deatails. I plan on doing a lot of shooting anyway, but assignments are more challenging.

Thank you! Those are the first "deliberate" portraits I've taken of the kids -- ones where I was really trying to balance the whole exposure/lighting thing. I think I took about 80 shots to get those ones just right.

Those are wonderful. I like that they are Existing Light. The frame around them is really cool too. That's one thing I really like about Digital, the savings on film. It does take a lot of shots sometimes, to get it just right. The Digital SLRs autobracket too. That's a nice feature. I took 1287 shots on the Dec cruise. Whoa! Try that with film. :rotfl: I got about 400 good ones....:rotfl:

Fantastic pictures Dennis! You really have a great eye to get some of those shots. I only wish I could do 5% as well.
Joy - We are on the cruise with you in December and I love nice pictures... :scratchin
Hahaha.... Tana already has requested my services as well :) I might just have to schedule a few Castaway Cay portfolio sessions... but we'll have to do it first thing in the morning so the beach is fairly uncrowded.... another Geek run, perhaps?
Hey, have y'all heard about "trash the dress" sessions? They're where women wear their wedding dresses again and go into a creek or stream and the poses are really intense... it's very striking. We could do a trash the formal night outfit in the ocean session :) Google trash the dress and you'll see examples all over the place.
In fact, I think there is a disneymooner on our 12/8 cruise... I wonder if I can talk her and her fiance into doing a TTD session (probably NOT in her wedding dress though).....

And with this pirate pirate: I would like to present Allie's birthday cake. I baked the cakes last night over a couple of hours and spent a couple of hours tonight decorating. It was a very interesting experience. Here is the final product.

Well guys, what better way to spend a cold and rainy night but cruising. Mike just put the DVD from our 3rd cruise in and we have just boarded the ship and the kids are dancing out on the pool getting ready for the show. It is incredible to see how much K and her cruise buddy Sophia have grown in the past two years. The kids up there are little girls. Now they are more like young ladies. I love watching them have so much fun. This was the first time that K was not attached to me at the sail away party and really had a blast. This is making me want to go on the cruise again. UPSIDEDOWN BOUNCING OFF THE CEILING.....

Joy, I looked at the first site on there and that guy's work is...well...interesting. The ones of the girls in the water look morbid. Some of them aren't too bad though. I laughed at the "shotgun wedding" one.
Why don't you book the Eastern PC cruise. :)

I wish! 8/17 is our anniversary too :) I was going to see if we could get away for the weekend to Las Vegas or something... but I really want to save my money for the cruise -- I want jewelry and Scott wants a Tag Heuer watch... gotta love shopping in the Caribbean!

Bobby . . . or a facsimile thereof, is on the move again. He was last seen in Indianapolis, and is soon to be on his way to Lansing Michigan. That boy is always on the move!

Bobby has been relaxing here in Oregon, with MrsMork and Me, since coming home from the Dec 8-15 Eastern Cruise on the Magic. We just finished watching the Packers/Giants game. The pictures will also be posted on the Bobby Trip Report and on the May 10, 08 Repo Cruise.
He enjoyed the game tonight, but didn't care for the outcome because he likes Yellow.

You had William this past cruise???? He was our server on the Dec 2006 cruise. :) It's good to see him still so happy there. He was wonderful with the kids.
Isn't he great. We were so lucky to have him. Josette was his assistant. She was good too. William said they complimented each other, and they do. It sad that he won't be on the repo. He said that by the time he comes back from leave he may have to start as an assisstant again. I guess rules are rules. He is taking a year off, if his plans go right.

Joy,
Are you familiar with OMP ? One Model Place? I joined and have a small portfolio on there. You have to watch letting the kids see the site. There are all ages and all forms of modeling on there. It seems like a site you an display your pics on. I am Photog 205980. Slices of Time.

That was my next question. He won't be an assistant for long though. :) That is how we met Marco...he was our assistant with Rudy on our second cruise...first with John, Amy and Sophia. I heard on the boards that he was back in Palo in 2 weeks.

:( Yeah...yeah...if I knew then what I know now. I have to keep reminding myself that we wouldn't be able to stay and see CA at all if we did the May repo because William would have to rush home to take the make up EOGs. This way we are getting 6 days in CA before the cruise.
