Is anyone bringing their blinky's from last year? I'm debating. :scratchin I'm not sure I would wear them but if anyone else is bringing them, I might be swayed into at least giving them a try -- although after wearing my Athen's all summer, it would be hard to switch.

I'll be bringing mine! They STILL light up. While they're not the most comfortable things, I can't imagine going on a Disney cruise without them :rotfl2:

On bringing wine...
I've brought wine in my suitcase. Put it in a cardboard tube from Michaels so it wouldn't break... had no problem

Konc Kooler from the DCL website...

Konk Kooler
Ingredients
1/2 ounce dark rum
3/4 ounce light rum
1 ounce passion fruit juice
1 pina colada mix
1 ounce orange juice
Directions
1. Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously.
2. Serve in a tall glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a wedge of tropical fruit.

Ok everyone...you are all doing a great job getting the post count way up there! Congratulations to you all. Unfortunately I am a little puzzled that I haven't received many details as to the Member cruise itself. I guess i was expecting more details from DVC on tips of what to bring, what to expect, what to be prepared for, etc.

We are leaving on the 17th so i am really in panic mode. As far as the cruise...should i bring beach towels for the ship and the island or are they available? Do adults get dressed up for Pirate night for the most part or do most leave it to the kids to get decked out only?
Nope, you don't need to bring towels, there are plenty. They hand them to you when you get off the ship in Castaway Cay.
Pirate night, it's really up to you. If you want to dress up, go for it!! Not everyone will dress up at all. Heck, I think that it's a DIS thing, more than a DCL thing.

Not that I want to sound like a lush or anything (I am not) but can we bring our own bottle of wine in our suitcase or will they scan, see it and take it away?
You may bring a bottle of wine, but I would not put it in your suitcase. The luggage handlers are not much different than airline handlers. Make sure that you bring it in your carry-on bag, to avoid a broken wine bottle all over your clothes.

Someone mentioned having a Mickey "hand" for autographs which i think is great but where do i get that and do the kids have to hold on to them to get signatures or can you turn them in for signatures on the ship? If so how, where, what?
I know that you can get them at WDW, not sure if they have them on the ship (they probably do). And yes, you can turn them into Guest Services to be signed on the first day, and then you get them back on the last night.

And then...forgive me because I forgot where to get a copy of this threads' meeting places to meet and greet when we get on the ship? Furthermore, we will be getting to the ship fairly early and i'm not quite sure what we should do, sign in with, etc., instead of just being in awe of our surroundings? I figure take care of business first and then RELAX! BY the way what is a Konk cooler anyway?
You can get the copy of Mary's DIS navigator on her website (link to it is on the bottom of all her posts). She'll also give you a hard copy at the DIS meet either on Saturday at the Beach Club if you'll be there, or onboard on Sunday at 3pm.

I don't want to feel lost and stressed when we get there. All I know is that we are wearing our awesome looking members cruise tees onto the ship. Any further help, information, details would be so helpful.   PLEASE HELP!!!

I've had our suitcases on the guestroom bed for a month or so already, putting stuff up there/in them as I come across it. But now I'm in a state of panic because we leave in 2 days and I don't think everything is going to fit. It just seems we'll need more clothes for this cruise than our normal trips to WDW, plus all the other stuff to bring. I'm seriously thinking about going out and buying at least one bigger suitcase tomorrow. (All of ours are 22" rollaboards or smaller, for when we used to only take carry-ons.)
Or, you can ship things ahead of time for things that you might only use on the cruise.

I finally caught up after falling behind yesterday. But what do you expect when there are over 500 posts in one day to read. So now it's almost 2am and I have a busy day tomorrow, starting with a music class with Ian. Then it's off to find some larger suitcases and major packing. Looks like I won't be cooking anymore before we leave because BIL is in town so we're going out to dinner with him, and whoever cooks the night before leaving town.

Oh, a quick update on our construction. The garage was painted today, but all the stuff that was in it was left outside. :confused3 (David and I were at the musicals so had no clue this would happen until we got home.) Tomorrow (since I haven't slept yet ;)) the furniture in the den and dining room is being moved out to the garage. Monday the process of replacing the hardwoods downstairs begins - not really comfortable with this being done while we're gone but I have a few people planning to check up here periodically for us. Oh, and I think I've finally picked out colors for the new rooms upstairs.

Robin, not cooking is a good thing :thumbsup2 Oh my, I sound like Martha Stewart. ;)

It sounds like the construction is progressing. Just imagine how nice it will be to come home and have the floors done.

I feel the same way, I am going to try it with CJ...we will see how bad mine looks!

Bad can't really happen in scrapbooking. Its like art, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you like what you have done, that's all that matters. Everyone has a different level of experience. Just because I have been at it a long time, doesn't mean my books are any better than someone who is new. I don't go for the super busy layouts anymore, I just want to get my pics and journaling in while it is somewhat fresh in my mind, with a few embellishments. I have gone to color blocking on the last couple of books I have done and find it much easier and quicker. Scrapbooks are for keeping our pics and memories safe, not stressing over!

Robin, have you moved your valuables out of the house? A friend of mine had her house flood because of a broken washer hose and they had to move into a hotel for 3 months while there house was redone. While the workmen were there, they got into her jewelry box and someone took her jewelry. They never proved who did it and most of her pieces were just costume, but there were a few expensive pieces and some that cannot be replaced. Please be careful what you leave in the house.

BRRRRRRRR It's a pretty chilly day here. I woke and realized it was cold enough for the furnace to turn on. They are calling for rain and snow flurries today - luckily it's been too warm for any of it to stick, but this is way to early for snow!

As I remember towels are available at CC as you disembark you just grab what you need.

Yes. They are. But the CM's look at you very funny if you ask for more than the number of ppl in your family. We all went up once (4 of us) and the CM said "how many?" I said "6." He said "how many in your family?" I said "4"....he gave me 4.

We fixed that the next time.....

I went to one CM and said "4" and Mike went to another and said "4."

DCL, if you're going to give me a towel the size of a hand towel, my larger body is going to need more than one!!

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Tip Of The Day

Today's tip comes from Karen (ohiominnie).

Make sure that one of the FIRST things you do is get your child(ren)s wristband from the clubs....

I remember hearing the story of a smaller kid who got separated, but they were very easy to get back to mom and dad b/c they had their wristband already on.

Great tip Karen - thanks for sharing!

Gosh, with all of these great tips I have, I should cruise more often!! :lmao:

For those who haven't done this....remember, you can register your kids online before you head to FL. It will ask for the child's name, preferred name, any medical or behavioral issues they should know about, which ppl have permission to pick your child up fromt he clubs, and if you want to give your child check in and check out privledges. DO NOT WORRY....all of this information can be changed when you get there if you change your mind.

Then when you get to the terminal, head to the back, right corner and you can finish the process. If you do online check in, it's very simple and quick....you get your kids wrist bands (child MUST be present, do don't leave them with dad) and they'll give you your pager and tell you how to use it. You can also pick up the schedule for what the kids will be doing during the cruise. :)

ANOTHER TIP......this is also an important one....
(lucky you, you get TWO tips today!!!!)
When you return your pager on the last night, they will give you a receipt showing that you returned it. DO NOT PACK THAT RECEIPT IN YOUR LUGGAGE YOU LEAVE OUT IN THE HALLWAY!!! KEEP IT CLOSE BY IN YOUR CARRY OFF BAG!!! I say this because if you do not return the pager, you will be charged $250!!! :earseek: One time we returned the pager and got the receipt. Luckily, I had it close by with me because we got our final bill and we were charged $250 for not turning the pager in!! A quick trip to guest services with the receipt and the charge was removed from our account. Hope this helps!!

When I was growing up, we used to have a cat that slept on top of the fridge. He would just jump on the counter then up to the fridge. She also used to climb up on top of the top cabinets and sleep up there too.

Even weirder, we used to have a cat that slept on top of doors. Yes, on top of the door. She would balance herself (how she got up there is a mystery) on top of the doors when they were open.

Seeing pictures like this really bring home the point to me, that I really need to be thankful each and every day for the all blessings we have. Some days, I wonder where the joy has disappeared to, but, there really are things to be thankful for every day. :goodvibes

I know you all are into cruise packing and planning, but I just read on the DVC thread that the new DVC area will be at Animal Kingdom. (Gail maybe now John will buy those additional points) It reportedly was on the Orlando news last night.

I would love to have points there. I guess I should have been saving money all this time. http://bestsmileys.com/money/3.gif

I LOVE the Carousel of Progress song/show too. Which brings me to a major gripe about old Disney vs new Disney. I have the answer to why many of the new attractions don't have the same impact as older ones that are sadly gone. I could make Disney so GREAT if they only would hire me. Here's the answer. MUSIC...yup it's almost that simple. Almost all of the attractions my family and I remember it's because we take the song home with us. It burns a special place in our memory. Songs are emotional links. The old horizons, the old Listen to the Land boat ride, and the old figment ride all have that in common. The newer attractions lack that. OK off my soapbox!

A lot of the newer rides arn't exactly sing along songs per say... but I can think of at least one right off the top of my head.

Ev'rybody has a laughing place, a laughing place to go ho ho!

A lot of the newer rides do have memorable parts though.

I can hum the music of Soarin', and of course there's your flight attendant Patrick. And the do de do do, do de do do of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. I would be willing to bet the new Nemo ride has some kind of musical theming going on. And Philharmagic is one long piece of music from beginnning to end :)

And some of the older rides don't exactly have a sing along song either.

Jungle Cruise right off the top of my head is more memorable for the campy bad joking of the boat captain than anything else. And the old simpler rides like the Starjets rely more on theming than anything else, even moreso at Disneyland than WDW.

Congratulations Amy, Diana, Karen and Curt.
It is freezing here today. http://bestsmileys.com/cold/13.gif I finally broke down and turned on the heat. The weather man said there might be snow this afternoon or tonight. I'm just not ready for this. I am so glad we will be warm soon. I can't wait.

Tom bought his costume last night. I think the shipping was more than the costume. I still have to find a shirt or make a shirt. We'll see.

Hey Cindy,

We are going to WDW the Friday after you all get back but I know several of you will already have left for home. Hopefully we will be able to meet up another time. I know you all are going to have a great time. I'm thinking it is probably best we aren't going since I am still trying to get my act together from the 11 night cruise. I'm not working today and HAVE to finally get rid of all the Disney bags. Of course, since I got Gail's LARGE bag of stuff mailed to her it has made a big dent in what I have left. :rotfl:

Here is my song for the day. pirate:

YO HO (A PIRATE'S LIFE FOR ME) From Arthur Levine,

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot,
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We extort, we pilfer, we filch, and sack,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
Maraud and embezzle, and even high-jack,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We kindle and char, inflame and ignite,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We burn up the city, we're really a fright,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

We're rascals, scoundrels, villans, and knaves,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We're devils and black sheep, really bad eggs,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

I play this VERY loud in my Avalanche! :woohoo:

I think that it would be WONDERful if they allowed us to buy onboard next week. I'm just thinking that if they are going to be ready next fall, then they are going to start selling soon. Maybe that's why they are offereing members $15/point off for SSR right now, because they know that they are going to sell VAKL at full price. I told Chris about it, and he said that maybe we'll have to add on another 50 points at VAKL, not that we need them, but it would be pretty cool. Maybe I can convince him to get 70 points, to bring us up to a total of 400 (we have 330 VWL points).

Very exciting! LOL now not exciting enough at this point for us to sell our smaller SSR contract and add on AKL, unless they put some strange rules in place on staying there then I might consider it!

#4 This thread 22,520 of which 2,298 are mine (I'm #3)

#10 SSMC05 thread 14,318 of which 1,759 are mine (I'm #2)

Yes Sandy is right Contemp. was a rumor based on a picture from an Architecht website and CM rumors that they were doing something at contemp. or the STOL port (airline strip)

word now is that VAKL then DL then Contemp.

DL would be interesting, but I know we won't buy there.

Our giclee came today via Fed Ex.
I really like it. It is nicer that I expected. Here is a dumb question. Do you hang it as is or put it in some kind of frame?

Ours is going to get framed. Taking it to Michaels next framing sale!

I saw a picture over on the DVC forums of someone who framed it with a plain white frame with no glass. I like that idea. I think they said they were able to buy a ready-made from which helps too.

Being canvas, I dont think you would want glass over it. All of our canvas prints are withour glass.

And you're the first to mention its construction. Until I saw it last night I imagined something in the format of a litho. It's actually the same format as an oil painting, canvas stretched over a box frame. I also wouldn't put that under glass.

Then I opened it up and saw the fun box inside. Love the pop up candles!

Did you all also see there are people over on the DVC forums who are against DVC wasting our money for this (though I really think it comes out of the marketing budget). Of course many of them are most likely also the ones who don't like the idea of a Member Cruise because it is a rip-off. :)

That print put a smile on my face for the rest of the day!

We agreed. Smiled most of the day, even though the weather was blustery and rainy.

Does the money for the DVC marketing budget come out of our maintenance fees? I didn't think it did.

I suppose some of it does but I am sure most is built into their costs.

Sure the Member Cruise cost more, but does that make it a rip off - I guess to some it does, but we'll have fun without them anyways :Pinkbounc

If they dont like it dont go. Besides no one forced us to buy into the cruise we wanted to go. I dont think we feel ripped off at all.

I guess that's why there are 9 of them already listed on ebay. Not to mention the 6 or so which have already been sold. They are not for everyone and we all have the right to do what we want to do with them.

What I don't agree with is that some can buy extras from DVC (because they are members) and then re-sell them on ebay. :(

I think it's really nice that everyone is getting one. But I can see the argument where it's not right to resell them if bought directly through DVC. In that case, it's going to end up costing someone (us??) more because there are those ebay sharks looking to make a profit.

Are they getting more than $50 for them? I think I heard that is what DVC is charging for additional copies.

On bringing wine...
I've brought wine in my suitcase. Put it in a cardboard tube from Michaels so it wouldn't break... had no problem

Konc Kooler from the DCL website...

Konk Kooler
Ingredients
1/2 ounce dark rum
3/4 ounce light rum
1 ounce passion fruit juice
1 pina colada mix
1 ounce orange juice
Directions
1. Place all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously.
2. Serve in a tall glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a wedge of tropical fruit. Thanks for the great morning post...I know it will be used!

I'm thinking it's going to be framed. I can't imagine it hanging on the wall without one -- to me it would look naked. Although the print does go around the sides, I don't think it will look right.

I plan to take it up to Michael's and see what they suggest.

I saw the one over on the DVC Board done in white, but I was thinking maybe a sky blue color might draw it out a bit more. I need to see what they suggest at Michael's.

Yoohoo, Steve, now that I think about it, where is your SIL's Michael's located?

Yes.

It would be neat if they'd start selling to DVC members on the cruise. I'm not sure that we're in the financial shape right now to buy, but that would be a hard one to pass up, since AKL was designed by the same guy that did VWL and it's the ONLY place we have points. DD's and I stayed at AKL a few years ago, and I have to say it's my favorite resort next to VWL.

I like your way of thinking, Mary. We too are not in the market for more points but it would be very tempting.

I have a question that I'm pretty sure has been discussed before, but I wasn't paying much attention at the time not thinking it applied to me. But now that I've convinced myself to purchase APs for this year, my plans have changed slightly.

What are the parking rules at the Beach Club Villas for DVC members not staying at the resort. We're not staying at a WDW resort pre-cruise and plan on attending the DIS meet at the Beach Club on Saturday. Now that we'll have APs, we'll also spend some time in the World Showcase, since it's so close. It would be so much easier to park at the Beach Club than the main EPCOT parking lot.

Has anyone seen the new series of Walt posters? I'm just dying for one but I need it in 11x14 sz not poster size. I was just going to get them each as postcards and put into one collage frame. May still do that. I think only Art of Disney is carrying them.

No bright blue skies here, but the snow has stopped!

Left at lunch time to run to Target and there were bright blue skies and the sun was shining. Came out of Target 1/2 hour later and it is grey and yucky out.

I don't know if any of you have been following the NYC plane crash, but they just said it was NY Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle piloting the plane. :guilty: It's like Thurmon Munson all over again. (And yes, I realize I'm dating myself!)

The whole story is sad. Thoughts and Prayers for all involved.

And I remember the Thurman Munson tragedy too I was already out of HS when that happened

I feel like I'm cutting into a private conversation

Sandy - nope, not a private conversation :) all are welcome! We don't have a ton of info from DVC this year so it's chat chat till we cruise!

Technically the parking is for only those staying at BC and BCV and they do check every car coming in. When we asked the question related to our welcome party at Epcot we were told that Boardwalk has easier parking as they have the evening activities that are for all WDW guests and they have some parking that isn't behind the gate (don't recall if that's the case right now).

But you can park at BC if you are going to eat at Beaches and Creme or Cape May cafe :)

I believe as long as you use the valet, you can park there, go to the DIS meet, go to Epcot and get your car when you're done. And valet parking is free, so it's not like it's gonna cost you anything!

I'm jealous that you all will get to sail the Wonder right after drydock...and that you're sailing period..... but mostly am envious of the great relationship most of you seem to have. You have a great thread here...and all sound like you're going to have a blast. I hope so!!

ENJOY!!!

Well since a few of us met in 03 for the cruise with YOU, I think you have had a positive effect on us too.

Was told by DVC on the 11 Night last month that the attorneys have been busy writing letters to those purchasing as a "rental business" to cease and desist.

Must be something in our ownership papers about that. Of course, I don't have time to read all that..............too busy trying to stay caught up on the disboards (and besides, we use all our points, and I would love to add more!)

It poured buckets here a little earlier, but at least it's not raining anymore, but the skies are still a little grey. But, you know how FL goes, it will probably be sunny in just a hour or 2.

It's a small world after all

It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small, small world

There is just one moon
- And one golden sun
And a smile means
- Friendship to every one
Though the mountains divide
- And the oceans are wide
It's a small world after all

It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
