I had a great afternoon at work too! I got a new boss (my second line supervisor), met with him and first line supervisor today and he is SO AWESOME!! Oh my, he is just what this medical center needed. He wants everyone to understand what a veteran is (whoa, imagine that in a VA hospital!!), communication both with staff and patients is a priority (!!!!!! Just what I have been saying for the past 8 years!) and he looked me square in the eyes and said that we advocates (there are 3 and 1/2 of us) have done a phenomenal (yes he used that word!) job! I tell you, I have not had a senior manager acknowledge the work we do in 8 years. I was absolutely giddy by the end of the meeting, as was my first line supervisor! Now I get the next week off to absorb this, and will just keep praying that the rest of senior managers don't eat him alive!

He sat me down today and confirmed that a raise was coming my way. I figured 1 buck an hour or so "because of finances, we can only offer..." with more to come later....but no, I got a HUGE increase, (works out to about 17%)...! Wooo HOOO!!! Effective next weeks pay!

Just a big hubabaloo about the wedding to take place in Rome on Sat.

But as they were walking into some posh restaurant tonight for dinner, he was carrying Baby Suri. All the photographers got pictures.....and the pictures just look like he's carrying a doll and she has nothing to do with it. I can't explain it. Seems like they were trying to make sure she didn't mess up her outfit or something. I don't know...just looked odd..

Everything about the whole Tom and Katie thing is odd.

Cheryl and Emmitt were so gracious. Loved them!

I was amazed to find out that Cheryl is just 20 years old!!! She has the grace & maturity of someone in their late 20s or 30s. That just goes to show that she is a great teacher too. :thumbsup2

Here's what Mario said to People
"Apparently world-class dancing wasn't enough. That wasn't the criteria it was based on," a dejected Lopez told PEOPLE. "I don't really care about the trophy. I just wanted to win for Karina. She is honestly the best dancer in the world. No disrespect to the other girls on this show, but they don't hold a candle to her."

This is the nicest one I could find that is appropriate for his comment.

Lisa - I would SO drive 45 minutes to a fabulous stylist!!!

Not around here. That would require me to plan 2 1/2 hours for a hair cut if there is traffic or construction that day. Besides, the owner where she use to be was also referred by many people & I am happy with the way she cut my hair the first time. She is a couple minutes down the street. Here 45 minutes is 4 cities away. Where I grew up that was how long it took to drive across town.

I was reading over on the CB (I know - how dare I! ;) ) the annual Santa wrap vs. unwrap debate. Santa never wrapped presents for us as a kid but all of the gifts from family were wrapped. So many people say that it would not be any fun to have Santa gifts unwrapped but I think it is more fun. It is so exciting to see all that stuff laid out and I love seeing each year what my kids go for first. Sometimes they surprise me! This year I think Nathan will go for his big Power Ranger Megazord and I think Allie will go for the doll and stroller.

The only time Santa wrapped anything was when Nathan was 2. We went to see Santa and he had some big empty presents wrapped under his tree and Nathan really liked the purple ones so he told Santa he wanted “purple presents”. Santa had a very hard time finding purple paper but he did manage to get two purple presents into Nathan’s stash! ;)

Does your Santa wrap?

Santa is the only one who gives the kids gifts in our house. He also wraps EVERYTHING! :thumbsup2 The kids are pretty good about taking their time. It use to be that they would open something & play with it for a while then go get another box. I love to watch them enjoying everything.

Becka - I got an appointment (and am on cancellation waitlist) with the girl that cut my hair 3 wks ago - I figure another 10 days growth will be better than trying to cut it now. Anyway, was going for cut/color on 1st...now I'll cut on 28th and color on 1st. I'm feeling good about my decision.

I think you will be glad to get a little cut off (less to wash on vacation!) and I always love highlights!! Glad you took the plunge...

And, V, yours has plenty of time to grow a little back - up the vitamins!! Good preventative meds for the cruise anyway!!

diana

I wont get my hair cut again before the cruise. It reached the I like it and can do something with it stage last week. I'll touch it up a bit the week before though. :)

I am a shopping bag girl. I hardly wrap anything unless it is big. I buy shopping bags in every size and tissue and lots of fun tags. I drop it in a bag right away and then finish up with tissue right before xmas so I spread out the fun and work - lol.

do any of you scrappers have a suggestion for how to store your papers and stickers and cutouts?

I was looking at Michaels today and need a solution for the papers especially.

Do you sort by category, color, type or what?

thanks.

I have those clear plastic 12x12 folders. There is one for each DCL cruise that needs to be scrapped, DD's bday book papers, DS's bday book papers, holiday papers, and general. I find this is easy when I want to spend the day at the store cropping. I just grab the scrapbook I want to work on and the folder that goes with it & head on out the door. :thumbsup2

I can't run my work software on a Mac so we need to stay a PC family....

New Intel Macs can run Windows, and they are now one of the higher rated Windows laptops by most of the PC Magazines. So you can't use that excuse - although you would have to buy Windows sepaerately.

Don't you think the Tom-Kat thing is really about the offspring? She is just a hired surrogate - probably has the same 10 year contract that Nicole had. only more sophisticated this time - since he figured out how to have a kid without actually having to do the technicalities.

She reminds me alot of the role Diana played for Charles.

I need a ripper -- something to get the music from my nano back onto my new laptop (originally the music loaded onto my old laptop).

Eventually I'll probably want to rip video to the video ipod.

What's the best thing to download/buy so I can take care of current and future needs?

Thanks!

For song ripping I use Ipod ripper (came in handy when I restored by HD) , and for converting my DVDs for my ipod I use Handbrake (this only works on actual DVDs.)

Here the costs are the same; DSL might be a little less (hard to say with all of the specials both keep running). I think you have to get a local answer. (Which provider works better... and what is better in your neighborhood) We have one of the best DSL connections in our neighborhood because of where our house is located. And too many cable customers in one area can be a problem.

Just another FYI . . .

DSL keeps having deals for NEW subscribers . . .

I call and tell them that if I don't get that deal when I renew, Cable will have a new subscrber. Works every time.

OK here goes..... :)

I use the top loading pages so when I sit down to start a book I plan it all out. The first book was 20 inserts each in 2 books. I wrote out the themes that I wanted to do & wrote those on post its on those inserts. I order the pictures. When they come in I slide those in the insert they belong to. I can then go thru and select the paper that I want to use for that page (if I haven't already) and put it in the insert as well. I pick the matching paper for backing the pictures and any embellishments that will go on the page then too. I then crop the pictures and mount them on the backing paper, then cut that down. I then have all that I need to put the pages together in each insert. I can jump around the book that way & do what interests me at the time. HTH. :teeth:

Maybe have her practice for shorter increments of time? see if mornings on the weekend make a difference when she isnt' tired?

YES.

But always in his own special "SANTA" wrapping paper.

Jaea does the same thing - every time she practices with daddy she comes out crying and stomping her feet. The teacher says she has a very good ear but she just doesn't like to stick with things she doesn't do well at instantly. I don't like to let her off the hook that easily.

Maybe have her practice for shorter increments of time? see if mornings on the weekend make a difference when she isnt' tired?

Thanks Elaine, but I'm sure it is just an attention thing for her. She is my drama queen.

I purchased it at the Reinassance Festival about 5 years ago. One Halloween I sat out on a chair handing out candy with the baby griffon on my shoulder. I scared a lot of kids, and some parents who thought it was real. (The little ones I had it be nice to)

I think Andy said gargoyle - he was partially right - they are often gargoyles.

I just don't understand why it seems that across the board it is so hard to get volunteers at schools. I understand lots of people work......... but still in our school, even the weekend/ night time events are hard to get volunteers. And the teachers always have stuff to take home.

I find it so rewarding, and love the chance to peek in on DH's class, or see what's happening in the office, or hang out in the staff room.

I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to be heavily involved.........

apparently in our school, people don't join the PTA ($5. dues) because they don't want to be asked to do anything.

Since I am at school so often I am now getting asked to do stuff even I don't want to do. Like they have a school store - they sell stuff you can get anywhere - why staff/sell this? - they end up making about $300. over the year - there must be a better way to come up with that $300.

I actually might work it just to see what they sell and what needs to be done.
I just don't believe in recreating the wheel. People should be asked to do stuff that is more meaningful when possible.

I just think they need to re-evaluate some of these activities that don't make sense.

It's fine now but there was a lot of rain and flooding. It's moved east now.

I have seen more rain in the last four months than I have in the last seven years!

I'm glad you confirmed that....seems like since we've gotten our pool and walkout basement door we've gotten so much rain. I'm more aware of it now because of those things...but I wasn't sure if it seemed like more or if it really has been more. I would agree...soooooo much water and rain.

We had a house about a mile from us where the basement collapsed yesterday. These water tables are completely saturated under teh ground. I wonder what kind of winter we will be having.

Yes Kristina, we had flooding...more like "water seeping in from under the door b/c the french drain that never was a french drain filled up"....but a few fans and some towels and mops and it was under control in about half an hour. The fans are still blowing down there now to make sure it all dries out.

I'd rate it a 4 on the scale of 1-10 in damage.

Luckily they are small enough that their clothes aren't that bulky yet. Usually I spend a lot of time on Jaea's clothes and throw stuff together for Giona because he doesn't care what he wears.
