Oh man! We will put you and the kids in our prayers for sure, Lisa. Let us know how it turns out. :grouphug:
I am just here for a quick break from school. I have already done a sign & packed up what I need to take back this afternoon.
I think this is OK because nothing has been done yet today. :thumbsup2 Kathryn & I were joking about it this morning. If they suspend our kids, we will have to be home with them. That means they don't have anyone to run the carnival. ;)
Also great news today regarding the kid in DD's class! :cool1: Last night when I asked how her day went & if he had bothered her at all she said that he went to another teacher's class who is in Kindergarten. I confirmed that with her assistant this morning! :woohoo: Hopefully having identified a major issue he was having will help his behavior. I would think that a child who is that far behind would act up because he can't do the work. As a parent of a child in the class....I am very relieved. Part of me is concerned about the kindergarteners he is with now though. :(

I don't know if trip insurane would cover it??? :confused3 I did put in for a quote with DU. My niece keeps saying she couldn't afford it, but if I hear that her DH will be back in time and would have to time off to go, I will find a way to make it happen. :teeth:
Caroline, why don't you call DCL & explain the situation to them. It wont be about your reservation so you should be able to talk to them. I am guessing that with it being a deployed member of the military they would allow them to move their reservation to a different date if they needed to. I am hoping that companies are giving a little more leway to members of the military who are at war since they have no control over when they can come home. I would also call the travel insurance company to see if that would qualify. If his current orders say that he will be home & his orders change, that may be covered. I would get it from someone who knows what they are talking about there though...maybe a supervisor.

You know I wouldn't deny anyone a good spot, I may even save an extra spot or two....I tend to get to my spot (family beach) and have three chairs and an umbrella...sometimes I get near a hammock; I could be persuaded to hold a few extra chairs and a hammock for some lucky winners...(Rumrunner, all I have to say, Rumrunner, should I spell that?) :rolleyes1

Whoa...did I miss something? Are you saying that your DD got sick after eating a powdered donut at the party???? If so...I may have to scratch that idea!
Brandi, she ate the donut, a hotdog, chips, cookies, and fruit. That was the week the tummy bug was going thru the school. DS had it Wednesday night & DD caught it from him a couple days later. All of the kids at the party either had it already or caught it the next week. I just mentioned that because I felt badly at first that I didn't realize she was sick. We were at the party almost 3 hours and she didn't start looking run down until the last 30 minutes or so. She was running around playing in the house & the backyard. I felt better after seeing her on the video because she didn't look sick there at all. She was smiling and having a good time. She would have gotten sick that night if we had gone to the party or not. :thumbsup2

Just this grandma's opinion, but I think we have gone WAY to far with the "no tolerance" c**p. Kids are going to be kids, there are going to be squabbles and occasionally a push or a shove. They get consequences for that and learn proper behavior, but suspending from school at the drop of a hat is obsurd. IMHO.
One of DG's friends was attacked by another kid (this is HS, NOT elementary) and refused to defend himself because he knew he would get suspended if he "fought". He took several punches because he is a very good student and good kid and did not want to risk having a suspension on his record. He was able to get hold of the kid's hands and hold him after a few punches, and they were even threatening to suspend him for THAT!! Now you got me going!
You can get suspended for even being involved but not throwing any punches. Somehow that really bothers me because a kid could get beat up & suspended...like in the case you gave, Angie. His dad was teasing him because he was "beat up by a first grade girl" and he is in 5th grade. She told me today that I don't have to worry about anyone messing with DD or trying to take her away. Her son has a bad bruise on his leg where she kicked him (she was wearing harder Church shoes since it was picture day.)

You bring up a very good point! What is the victim supposed to do?? Heck, it sounded like Kaitlyn was trying her best to protect her brother!
OK, after a couple days of talking to all four kids we think that we have pieced it together. Her DS said let's wrestle and they started to roughhouse. Totally normal for 5th grade boys. My kids do not know how to "play fight" and when he pushed DS too hard & he fell down DD kicked him in the leg. Somehow my kids started fighting each other & he tried to break them up by wrapping his arms around their shoulders...which ended up being their necks. DS twisted around alot which caused his neck to get red marks on it and then he ran into the school to get us. DD kicked him again because now he was trying to hold her still and didn't like it. That really hurt & made him mad, which is when I ran outside & saw him pinning her down on the ground.
I have talked to both kids about the fact that they could have gotten suspended & still might. I also went over what else they could have done at each step.

Umm...yeah. Queensland Chicken and Shrimp with a starter course of Cheese Fries. Washed down with a Yngling Lager....
When I used to travel for work, we would book our hotels and flights and stuff and always find the closest Outback to our hotel...it was our official restaurant for all out of town travel. :rolleyes1
Do you mean Yuengling? "America's Oldest Brewery." The only reason they are the oldest is due to the fact that they are in the mountains and they never stopped producing during prohibition!!!!! That is about 10 min from my house...people seriously come from far and wide to tour it. I have never toured....I was in it but never "officially!!!!" Cruise fever is starting to infect the whole family except for Allie who really does not understand what is in store for her just yet. ;) Nathan keeps asking how many days and I love to see his reactions as he realizes that it won’t be too much longer before we are on the Mickey Boat again. His excitement is contagious. I did tell him about Samantha and Haley (Vanessa’s girls) and how we would be eating dinner with them on the Mickey Boat. I was able to show him the pictures on our website and that excited him even more. He loves that they have been to WDW and on the Mickey Boat before too – just like him. :yay:
We leave in exactly six weeks!!! I know several of you actually have even less time before you leave. I am going to be an absolute mess within a few more weeks. It still does not seem real a lot of the time.

Ooooo. I'm still bitter about the people who pushed in front of DD and me at the Magic Kingdom parade 3 years ago. I felt like screaming at them "HEY! This is Hannah's first trip ever and first parade and we have been waiting a long time! And now this six-months pregnant woman is forced to lift a 5-year-old up so she can see the princesses." But all I did was give them the evil eye. I should have had some DIS geek friends then.

Oy Vay! Never a dull moment! Never!

Brandi, I had to search the net to see who my old high school competes against in water polo; I thought some were in Reading. Here's a few; don't know if you recognize the schools.
Cumberland Valley
Governor Mifflin
Muhlenberg
Pottsville
Reading
Wilson
Wyoming Valley West
I actually recognize all of those teams. I am surprised about Pottsville. That is about 10 min. away. I don't recall ever even seeing them listed in the paper as having a team. I guess that sport just isn't "important" in this one track minded (football) area.

Actually less than that since we have to stop and pick up the pizza. Oh, and I found a black and white striped sweater for Amanda yesterday at Fashion Bug. She can wear it later too.

Do you mean Yuengling? "America's Oldest Brewery." The only reason they are the oldest is due to the fact that they are in the mountains and they never stopped producing during prohibition!!!!! That is about 10 min from my house...people seriously come from far and wide to tour it. I have never toured....I was in it but never "officially!!!!" I went once to take it but I had on sandals and you must have on regular shoes...who knew!

DS had a great time this morning with his Preschool. We went on a wagon ride then walked through a corn maze. The kids each got to pick a pumpkin. Then we rode the wagon back to the store area. The kids got to go down a slide, through a DARK tunnel, and other outdoor activities. Then they went inside for a snack and they each got to pick something out of the treasure chest. The kids cost $3.75 each and the adults were $2.50. I didn't think that was bad at all! Jake had a runny nose...but other than that he was fine. It was fun to see him in that atmosphere. He was very very quiet! I was rather surprised!

It took us a couple weeks to receive our reward card but I've heard it can take up to 30 days so you should cash out soon.
Keep in mind that your card can have rewards added to it so once you have the card you can add more rewards to it without a waiting period BUT you have to have $10. in rewards to cash out. So say you have an odd amount available like $23. I'd say get the card with $13 of it and then after you receive the card have any remainder added a week before the cruise.
I hope that makes sense.

Here Here!!!! Now that is the spirit! If you want it....get up and get it!!!
We went to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in NYC 2 years ago. Jason and I got up at 3 am and left our hotel room. We walked 1 block to times square. We got curb side spots. We waited HOURS for the parade to start. We had several people try to push in front of us. :furious: I don't think so!!! It was funny there was a wave of people from about 3 - 3:45. We all got curb side. Then at about 6 am everyone else started to pour in. There was NO WAY they were going to push me out of the way!!!
This happens at WDW for any parade or fireworks. We rarely stay less than a week and usually it is longer. I do not rush through a park and like to get a good spot for these events. Therefore I usually "stake out" the spot I want at least two hours ahead of time. Everytime someone will come up near the time to start and want me to let them "share" this little spot.

Yowser.....sounds like you need these, too! :grouphug: :grouphug:

you guys have me thinking I should get the Disney Visa. I usually use a Northwest Airlines card but it's like that commercial with David Spade, I want to use the miles and they say NO. Actually they say sure, but it will cost you 50k miles per ticket instead of 25k. Totally bugs me. I've started using my Amex now just cuz the points are more usable. But a lot of my vendors still don't take Amex, even though it's btb (argh), so I need some kind of visa or mc. Questions for those who have this card:
1. Can you use the points to pay for your DCL cruise, or just for your stateroom account?
2. Do they ever offer bonuses for signing up, or do I just go ahead and get one now to start racking up the points? ;)
thanks for the help!

So close ... every other year recently we've been in Williamsburg for Thanksgiving; this is not a Williamsburg year. My side of the family (the ones who are doing the cruise) will meet there when it's our year for Thanksgiving. (Since family is so spread out, we alternate Christmas and Tgiving with my side and DH's side. My side gets Christmas this year... and the cruise is our Christmas visit.)

Sorry Becka, I missed part of this conversation. Are you saying that you can either fly in on Saturday or you can fly in on Thursday night and you'll save enough to pay for WDW resort and tickets? I would say go for that. We're going down on Thursday, Magical Express to WDW, limo to port, then DCL transfer from port to airport. So no car seats or rental car... but luggage, well there is luggage and we will have to pack it up twice and lug it a bit from our rooms to the limo. But I am excited to see the Christmas party thing so I'm very happy to go to WDW, even if just for a day.
If you want to stay at WDW before the cruise, call and make your ressies now as I am afraid all the rooms might be gone already -- you'll have to stalk them for an opening, but hopefully it will work out!

OK all you CC sprinters, would anyone be willing to adopt my dh and show him where to go? Last year on our first CC day we didn't go out until later, we were lucky to get a few chairs together in the back. The second day my Dad went out and got some chairs closer to the front, but still not fabulous and nowhere near a hammock. The only hammock I saw was really far from the water. Really we were just in awe of the whole place and happy to be anywhere on the beach!! It doesn't seem like it should be so difficult to find The Perfect Spot, but I guess there isn't much time to mess around if you are a *serious* beach spot finder. Just so you know, dh is very very punctual, always early for appointments, and he can run fast, he won't slow you down! He'll even carry your beach bag ladies <hint hint Angie>.
Now me and the chilluns are just too slow to get going in the morning, we won't even try to be out with the sprinters.

Pick me pick me.
I m not sure if there are any hammocks near the water. Hammocks need trees so they are back off the beach, between the beach and the walking path...not terribly far though.
I will be off early and the beach is fair game...Im sure we can help him. Are you thinking of the family beach or the adult beach?

Roundtrip airfare for 4 non-stop from Kansas City to Orlando on Southwest for our dates right now is $468.xx. :scratchin
What do I do? We also could fly in Thursday evening for the same price and stay at WDW and visit a park on Friday if we wanted. Of course we would have the added hassle of the car seat, rental car, less luggage, etc.. What should we do?
Fly down and do a day at the park!!!! Then your kids will get at least a little Disney ride fix!!!!

you guys have me thinking I should get the Disney Visa.
I got a 40 point bonus!

It is a strange world out there but they have bananas too. I don't think they really know what to do with them though.

THANK YOU!
To Charlotte . . .
Sophia got her package today, and I can tell you you made one little girl's day.
That was a very kind and thoughtful thing you did for these kids.

I thought his hands/pants thing because my DS just started to do that...it REALLY annoys me!

Giona does this too - I keep asking if he has to go to the bathroom - but he says it's fun ;) Can't argue with that logic. I guess a responsible parent would have one of those "privacy of your own room discussions" - who me?

I have spent the last hour downloading mp3 files from one of the threads. It is an incredible wealth of music and sound files!

Thats funny. Really, I was walking one time and saw this woman in a hammock and I said...oh wait. Ruht Roh.
I think we need a pirate flag to stake out areas...and a big sign that says, Dead Man Get no Hammock pirate: !
Good idea Andy!
We should transfer pirate flags to the beach to stake out our territory!
Any non-lime green pirates messin with our land beware!

I seriously can not name one school that has a water polo team in our area. I wonder if that is a western thing... :confused3
We have water polo here, but it is a club sport - no varsity. Along with ice hockey, bowling (will be varsity next year), and lacrosse.

They will probably just think something like this:
There goes those crazy lime green people again. Really what is wrong with these people? Did you see them sprint to the beach wearing numbers on their backs? Oh, and can you believe their behavior at dinner last night? Shouting across the dining room something about Taking Back or Never Giving Bananas. :confused3 Not only that but I think some of them were wearing bedazzled jeans on formal night. How geeky! What are they some kind of cult?
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Look out if any of them offer you Kool-Aid on CC!
