QUESTION (for the techies):
I have a Canon Elura camcorder and I can hook it up to my laptop (as soon as I get a firewire cable).
Do I need special software or should Windows (I have media edition) be able to copy it to my computer like it does with photos?
Any recommendations on editing software?
Sorry, no Windows . . . would work fine on a Mac with iMovie though . . .

I can only go by the reviews for this camera. It will be hard to go really bad buying almost any point&shoot digital with good reviews.
I concur.
Consumer Reports usually does pretty good reviews.
Make sure you go to a store where you can handle it and feel comfortable with it before you buy.

is anyone near Williamsberg, VA or Charlottesville VA? We'll be in those two places the week of Thanksgiving... I am so jealous of you East coasters who get together all the time it seems! Maybe I'll just drive down to... Kansas? Missouri? I think that's the closest anyone is to us here in MN.
Remember how there was a glaring lack of midwesterners in the Dis geeks map? I think it's cuz people here just don't get the concept. I don't know why, but all our friends think we're totally nuts to go on a Disney cruise. Personally, I think it's insane not to go on one, LOL. But I don't know if we ever would have done it if my parents, who live in VA, hadn't arranged it last year. Now we're hooked.
Our friends just go to "the cabin" usually for vacation, or visit rellies. I need a vacation *after* I do either of those!
Well Tana,
Amy's sister does live in Williamsburg. Just show up at her door.
Hi, I'm Tana from Minnesotta, and I was supposed to meet up with your sister in St. Paul, but we just played phone tag, so I thought I would stop here and see you instead while I am in the neighborhood. Yes we met on the internet.

My brother and BIL both drink the lagar. My DH always drank premium. Now he is more of a Corona kind of guy. He only drinks one or 2 beers like every month. He hardly drinks at all...but when he does it is almost always Corona.
There is a degree with my DH. :) He only drinks Corona around here.

OK all you CC sprinters, would anyone be willing to adopt my dh and show him where to go? Last year on our first CC day we didn't go out until later, we were lucky to get a few chairs together in the back. The second day my Dad went out and got some chairs closer to the front, but still not fabulous and nowhere near a hammock. The only hammock I saw was really far from the water. Really we were just in awe of the whole place and happy to be anywhere on the beach!! It doesn't seem like it should be so difficult to find The Perfect Spot, but I guess there isn't much time to mess around if you are a *serious* beach spot finder. Just so you know, dh is very very punctual, always early for appointments, and he can run fast, he won't slow you down! He'll even carry your beach bag ladies <hint hint Angie>.
Now me and the chilluns are just too slow to get going in the morning, we won't even try to be out with the sprinters.
He can tag along with me Tana . . . I will be the one following the back of Andy's head.
Seriously . . . all of us going to the family beach (and leaving early) should stake out a "DIS" section for as many of us as we can. We can post pirate flags around. One of the tricks is to go pretty far down the family beach - many people stop as soon as they see water. Further down also = closer to Cookies!

You really have to know how to use that banana!

I've checked our Walmarts and they don't have any suits. Wonder if it is a Christmas thing. :confused3 I will check again this weekend.
They have them here year round. Is your store a super store? Have you checked online? I wouldn't mind picking one up for you if you would like.

Another questions for the camera-philes amongst us.
We are looking at a Fuji(?) S5200 or something like that. Is this a decent camera? It seems to get really good reviews.
I would never recommend a Fuji camera. I had a Fugi 35mm and it took great pictures but when it broke the repair guy told me that it would cost me twice as much to repair it as it would to replace it...and he didn't sell cameras so that actually cost him a sale. He said that he would never buy a Fugi because of the repair cost.

Sorry I forget that everyone is not quite as "retentive" as I am. I keep the original box to everything and file the software so I can find it.
:rotfl: I have kept every box for the kid's toys....imaginext, legos, car seats, highchair. It did make it easier to sell things when they outgrew them. The pile of boxes up in the attic is growing.

I am sick of doing laundry!
I haven't done laundry all week & it is piling up. :( This weekend I will be catching up. :( The house is a mess. I told DH this when he called me back tonight. The kids & I were at the school until 6:15 and then we went by McD's to eat. I cut & tied tulle for two hours since the other volunteers didn't show up today & am about half way thru stringing fishing line thru metalic stars to put up in the cafeteria. I had to take a break.

Oh No! I will be a nervous wreck. I like these things in my hands very early. I have already printed my MVMCP tickets. We have a multi-slot folder where we keep all of the documents for these trips; including our passports.
This not good news!
http://bestsmileys.com/paranoid/1.gif
I think that it is just where we live. I haven't received the hair ties yet but everyone else got them two days ago. If you print out your docs online you wont get the paper docs. I will probably print them a couple days before we leave to be ready but want the paper docs for the scrapbook. ;)

Roundtrip airfare for 4 non-stop from Kansas City to Orlando on Southwest for our dates right now is $468.xx. :scratchin
What do I do? We also could fly in Thursday evening for the same price and stay at WDW and visit a park on Friday if we wanted. Of course we would have the added hassle of the car seat, rental car, less luggage, etc.. What should we do?
Becka, that isn't bad. When you consider the fact that you will be more rested for Saturday morning....it would be worth it to me....and I am cheap. ;)

I actually put the hair-ties away so as not to misplace them. I also opened a box from Disney today (I got it about a month ago?) and found a new bathingsuit for Dina and Mickey polo shirts for the family. They "match", but are different colors. They are very comfy. :thumbsup2 Put those away too.
Charlotte,

The following was the response I received from DCL in my request for clarity on whether you can still ship to IDS and if so what, you can ship to IDS.
Also thank you Pj for making me think about it and ask the question in the first place - I never am on the main boards so I would have ordered all of those items and had it returned or something....
The good thing is the supplies to the children/school can still be sent it appears, so that is a wonderful thing.

I am so bummed that I missed that today. :(
You didn't miss it Lisa. I turned it on because I saw Brandi's post and it is only in the last scene as Luke is leaving that she says his name. The previews look much more exciting so Friday (or Monday) is the day to watch.
My girlfriend was working at AMC I think today. I asked her to give me the scoop about people while she is there. Of course she is really nice and kind so no dirt from her. I remember commenting that someone was a wooden performer and she talked about how dynamic and responsive they are in real life. She's no fun.

I took the afternoon off today because I felt like crap but frankly I don't have time to feel like crap. Things to do things to do.
I always feel guilty taking the downtime as well. I told a co-worker it would have been better to be hospitalized trying to get over pneumonia. At least then it is more difficult for people to ask you for things right after they ask how you are. I mean how are you supposed to answer it - its a purely retorical question isn't it. They really don't want to know. Now I say Fine and I get the response "No you are not" I say "You're right. So, what can I do for you today"

Today (well yesterday now) was picture day. DD looked so cute. Her whole class was there. A little boy who has been out with ...drum roll...you guessed it pneumonia for the past 3 weeks was back. I'm happy for them as it's a bummer to not have the whole class there for picture day and the kids get disappointed.
Speaking of which DD almost missed her picture last year but for her super spectacular Kindergarten teacher. Her class picture was taken first thing in the morning - well DD wasn't there because we were rushing out the door at 8A and what did I do - I closed the door and the keys to everything were still in the house and the door was locked. Panic! Running around I ended up calling the school (who told me her class was heading down), Panic, calm down enoug to call our cousin who comes to our house picks us up and brings us to school. On route I am explaining to DD that she may have missed the picture (ugh). As it turns out the teacher got the message and asked to delay the class picture until DD arrived. Wasn't that so sweet! I was so thankful!

It really wasn't very dramatic. I think today will be better. The 3 kids were all telling her how much they missed her (at that point they thought she wouldn't wake up) then they left. Luke was in talking to her and about to leave when she turned her head and said "Luke." Then the show ended.

Wow - quite slow last night. Where was everyone? I know I was at work. Yawn. I'm so tired and I think today is gonna be another late night.
Oh - I forgot to share with everyone...remember that lion costume I stumbled across for my son's show that he is in.....well....they ran out. Ugh! So now I have to MAKE a darn lion costume this weekend. I have no pattern...just gonna wing it. I hope it turns out okay.
Happy Friday everyone.
Take care.

Becka - at age 4 you don't need a car seat in Florida. You can rent one for your little one from the car rental agency. You can just take ME when you arrive and skip the car, unless you are taking the car to the port.
I think lots of luggage will be an issue - we are wondering the same thing - might have to go mini-van rental - although we won't have a stroller this time.
We went with hanging out at the beach at CC and Cocoa before the cruise to start our tans ;) Of course I am regretting a little not visiting the parks but I would rather just relax than get tired at the parks.
I hear lots of the hotels on property are sold out so you should check. It's also fun to just tour some resorts at this time and see the holiday decorations. I think it will benice to have a transition day in Fl. before the cruise starts. I know we will enjoy the extra day of warmer weather.

I think that it is just where we live. I haven't received the hair ties yet but everyone else got them two days ago. If you print out your docs online you wont get the paper docs. I will probably print them a couple days before we leave to be ready but want the paper docs for the scrapbook. ;)
OOOOPS! Now that's a bit of news that I haven't seen before. I downloaded the docs that where available online and completed them weeks ago. They are currently in my folder. I still expected to get the paper docs as well though. Bummer.

Of yeah, I stake out right down from Cookies, makes our lunches easier to get to. We need to organize and conquer...I mean, coordinate. We need to coordinate the night before and get on the same page. The kicker will be family members who want tubes and such - that slows us down. Maybe send one or two scouts..I mean, parents...over to pick those up and drag them to the bases, I mean...beach chairs. Plans, plans, already our minds are becoming one...

Remember, too, if you do have the down time on the cruise, that there are a lot of DIS friends for your other girls as well. Maybe they can email ahead of time if you're comfortable with that so they "know" someone else before going to the clubs/Stack.

Jill -- so sorry to hear about sweet Autumn having so much trouble right now. Praying for a quick improvement and pain relief.
For Alex, you can call DCL and arrange to have happy bday decor placed in the room, and you can also arrange a cake and singing in the restaurant. I would also love to help out if you need any helpers to make a surprise happen!
As for the last week, I don't think you have missed much. There was a slight scare that pirate night had changed to Tuesday, then it appeared that was a one time only thing and really, that's about it. My kids are too little for snorkeling so we're not doing any of that unless they get brave enough to try it while we're on Castaway Cay.
Are you booked on the Castaway Cay catamaran island cruise on Friday?

My FIL just called me, he is at his parents house in Lincoln Nebraska and they are doing an extreme home makeover a few blocks away starting today, ending next Saturday. Dh is going down next weekend for a football game. The boys and I were going to stay home for JP's basketball game.. but that might change if the coach thinks its ok for him to miss the game. So excited -- the boys love EHM!!! They totally want to be Ty.
That sounds exciting! :Pinkbounc I wonder if Kim ever saw Ty? Kim??

What time does the ship pull into C.C. What times does breakfst open up? and what time do we need to be there and what side of the ship do we need to be on to be able to see the familey beach? Thanks
Hi Tana, The big old lime green mickey bus is getting closer and closer.
The ship pulls in in the early am..... You can feel the thrusters turn the ship as they back in........ Think 7ish...
Breakfest up at Topsiders opens at 7:30 (according to may DD navigator)
Topsiders provides you with a great view of the island (since it's off the back of the boat) We usually due an early to breakfest and then dash down the stairs to get our place in line to get off the boat... All ashore depends on when they have unloaded the supplies. (usually 9-9:30)
The family beach can be viewed from the starboard side (ie the side that faces the dock when we first board at the Cape).

I know we all suffer from them. :confused3 I told DH that if it is allergies that he needs to get a note we can give the daycare so they will let him back in class.
The rain here is finally starting to let up. It was pouring this morning. It has been dreary for days. I am ready for a little sun. Dinner for tonight is already in the crockpot. I made my crockpot soup and it sounds wonderful right now. It is nice to know that dinner is already taken care of when I get home.
If DS really does not have pinkeye then our St. Louis Zoo trip will still be on. Right now they are calling for 61 degrees and party sunny. It should be nice. They have “Boo at the Zoo” so we are taking the kids’ costumes with them and they can do a little ToT’ing while we see the animals.
Sunday we are going to stay home, carve pumpkins and make pumpkin pie. It sounds like it should be a nice weekend for all of this. I hope the kids are healthy and will behave.
On my lunch break I changed my display on my computer to be a picture of the ship from CC. I tried to pretend that I was sitting in a lounge chair eating my tuna salad and apple. :sad2: I am pathetic. How I wished I was eating at Cookies instead.... ;) Of course it is only 41 more days until we leave for vacation and only 43 days until we sail! :yay:

We could form a support group on this one! I'm a last-minute packer. Drives DH totally nuts!
I will say in my own defense that I'm a gatherer. I gather things up and have them in an area ready to go.
This time, I'm trying to break the habit of waiting to pack 'til the night before. (I mean, what could happen between now and then that would even want me to take out shorts/sandals?).
I will pack early.

I've never gotten one myself. Sarah did when she was smaller because she had RSV. Sarah hasn't been immunized from Chicken Pox, nor has she had them. The other two got the shots.

"Get ready for flu season without leaving the comfort of your car!
In three easy steps, adults and cooperative children can receive protection with either FluMist nasal vaccine or a traditional flu shot without leaving the comfort of their car.
Special activities are planned along the way for those in line for the vaccine. Every 20th car will receive a free emergency preparedness kit at the county's first mass clinic drive-thru."

Not sure how effective purell is against Pinkeye virus Becka....
Check with the dr...... (or ask pharmacist)
If he were older i'd say take him but don't let him touch much if anything...Which would be really hard for his age at the zoo....

I'll be right behind you, John1. All DISer's welcome to join in later.

They have them here year round. Is your store a super store? Have you checked online? I wouldn't mind picking one up for you if you would like.
I checked again today as I was at local Walmart. It was suggested I try the Salem store which is much larger than even the Woodburn supercenter. It is only about 30 miles to Salem and an easy drive so I think I will call them and see if they carry them. Thanks for the offer and all the help from everyone on this. :grouphug:

I think that it is just where we live. I haven't received the hair ties yet but everyone else got them two days ago. If you print out your docs online you wont get the paper docs. I will probably print them a couple days before we leave to be ready but want the paper docs for the scrapbook. ;)
When I returned from taking Dennis' car to the shop today I found a fed-ex package on the step from DVC. Now since we booked with points, I was absolutely giddy thinking this MIGHT be our documents! But SO early?? :confused3 Nope, was a very nice box with some special postcards in it. Another gift from DVC. There were two of each postcard. One to send and one to keep, I suppose. :)

John, you think like I do and....<wait - EVERYONE RUN!!!!!!> ok, where was I...

Castaway Cay Map (http://www.*******************/ccmap.htm)
Ok, this is a link to a map showing Castaway Cay. Wife and I usually stake out a letter J (known as Operation JellyBean); you can see it is directly down from Cookies and the Conched Out Bar (ummm, a coincidence).....good location, at least to us. Its fairly close to the Swimming Lagoon (the island at I on the map)....
For the return DISers, whats your favorite spot?
Depends, if we are without kids we like the hammocks that are when you first get to the beach area, by She Sells. This is near the snorkle lagoon where we like to be early in the day. Then around lunch we vacate that and go to Serenity Bay for the afternoon. With kids the family beach by the J is great.

She has not gone to school in 2 weeks, Her pain is out of control and we are hoping we have something firgured out by the cruise or Autumn and I will be having alot of down time. Thankfully my family will be with us so they can keep an eye on the other girls.

Also is there anyone going snorkeling on their own in Costa maya?

Anyone want to share 1-2 of your favorite recipes (food, drinks) and we'll have a DIS geek cookbook? popcorn::
Here it is folks, direct from the "Pennsylvania Dutch Cookbook"
Chicken Pot Pie
4 to 5 lb. chicken, disjointed
4 or 5 large potatotes, whashed, pared, and cut in thick slices
3 large onions, cut in 1/2 inch slices
Salt
Pepper
Pastry (recipe below)
Water
Place a layer of chicken in the bottom of a large heavy kettle, cover with a layer of potatoes and then with slices of onion; season with a mixture of salt and pepper. Roll pastry out rather thick (about 1/4 in.) and cut into 2 in. squares; place on top of onions. COntinue layers ending with a layer of pastry squares on top. Add water to cover contents halfway; cover kettle tightly and cook over high heat just until boiling. REduce heat to low and cook until chicken is tender, 1/12 to 2 hours. 8 to 10 servings.
Pastry:
3 cups sifted flour
1 teasponn salt
1 cup lard or other shortening
5 tablespoons cold water
Mix with fork and roll out on floured surface and cut into squares.
I have not tried this in a crock pot but will this weekend. Last weekend I wimped out and baked one of those frozen imitation potpies with a pie crust on top. Good, but not pot pie.
It is cold and rainy here and we need some good comfort food.

Recipes - One of my favorites is Mexican Chicken Casserole
1 pkg. Chicken Tenders
Taco Flavored Doritos
1 lb. Mexican Velveeta
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 can Rotel
1 medium onion, chopped
Boil the chicken tenders until done and cut up chicken into bite sized pieces. Put chicken in bottom of 9x13 pan. Crush 1/2 pkg of Taco Doritos and put on top of chicken. Slice mexican velveeta and place over chicken and chips. In a blender mix soups, rotel and onion. Pour over cheese. Crush remaining Doritos and put on top of sauce. Bake at 350/375 for 45-60 minutes until done.
You can make this as mild or as hot as you want depending on what kind of Velveeta and Rotel you make. The blender sauce looks disgusting but this really is very yummy. Note: Not WW friendly! :rotfl:

Here is the Crockpot Soup I made tonight.
1 1/2 pounds of lean hamburger, browned
3 cups water
2 small onions, chopped
1 pkg. frozen stew veggies (or the fresh stuff if you have time to chop up carrots, potatoes, whatever veggies you want, etc.)
1 can diced tomatoes
3 beef boullion cubes
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup flour
Put hamburger, water, onions, stew veggies, tomatoes, boullion cubes, salt and pepper in crockpot. Cook on low 7-9 hours. Turn crockpot to high for 1 hour. Melt butter and mix in flour to get a roux. Mix roux into soup to thicken. Turn down heat on crockpot and let simmer for 10-15 minutes. Serve. :)
