That's what we do too, but we also throw in a can of corn (drained)

Instead of corn I prefer green peas.

.....I make a ground meat and bean casserole type dish that my DH claims is like what he knows as goulash...

My DM's version was ground beef, elbow macaroni, tomato sauce, cheese.....pretty yummy, actually.

ds2Mom

We do goulash here with elbow macaroni and hamburger pasta sauce. It is kind of a cross between mac and cheese and spaghetti.

Wait a minute...when did I say that...Goulash is a soupy bean mix with ground meat and tomatos (stewed), macaroni noodles and a little spice and something else. Very good...haven't had any in a LONG time. Goulash that is.

Exactly what goulash was in our midwestern home years ago!

Nice try Karen but you forgot to take into account just a few things in your calculations….

1. Friday night chat
2. Vanessa is gone this weekend
3. Another one of us is bound to be banned by next Wednesday
4. Daylight Savings Time
5. Halloween
6. Moon Phases (Full Moon on November 5th)

We will hit 50k on Thursday evening (11/2) – not Wednesday (11/1)….. :sad2:

Silly Karen…leave the math to the professionals… ;) :lmao:

What is the best 1-way car rental option for this cruise? We will need a car on the 8th and return to the port on the 9th. I will need another 1-way rental from the port to airport on the 16th. I am looking for the cheapest deal for a family of 4. Thanks, Gregg.

Hey, Gregg! Welcome back to the fray!! Are you coming from WDW or the airport? Rentals are a bit trickier from WDW, but doable. We had a Budget from WDW to the port. Budget has a site at Doubletree at WDW and will pick you up at any Disney hotel. They also have a drop off near the port.

The girls had a good time last night at the Eid party (Ramadan). First we stopped at Boscovs, but what the heck happened to that store?!?! Sarah and Amanda were trying to find some sweaters and none fit very well. The one wouldn't even go on an arm?! :confused3 Sarah likened it to one of those Chinese yo-yo things. We did find some cute capri legging with skulls all over them. Now we have to find a cute black skirt for over it and a neat top! Sound good for PN?
sounds great. I saw some of the pirate capri legging thingys at Gabriel Brothers. they had only the kids sizes but they looked really cute

i am trying to find games for the party on Saturday. I have some from other years...but I always like to add a few new ones!

We went to a party this month that hung small powdered donuts from the door frame with string. They were spider eggs. ;) The kids knelt down & ate them with their hands behind their back. It was pretty funny to watch. You have to cut a bit of the string each time because their mouth gets on it but the bigger kids go last.

Exactly what goulash was in our midwestern home years ago!

Ken's mom is Hungarian - that is where ghoulash originated I believe - in Hungary. She makes it with egg noodles, braised beef - stew meat - not hamburger - various vegetables, like carrot etc. I love ghoulash.

Martha will be joining us on the cruise if anyone wants Hungarian cooking tips. She speaks Hungarian too.

I was doing some google searches for some healthy lunch recipes and I ran across this:

Baked potatoes are a good lunchtime choice, but it's better to leave out the butter, or just have a small amount. Healthy fillings include baked beans, cottage cheese and ratatouille. Try to avoid ready-mixed fillings that contain lots of mayonnaise, because these can be high in fat.

Who puts BAKED BEANS on a baked potato? That just sounds like one of the worst food combinations ever! For that matter cottage cheese doesn't sound too good either. :sad2:

You know, there are a lot of variables in that Halloween/posting element. Sure, people will be busy taking the kids around for ToT and handing out the candy corn and peeps to other kids. But every good poster should be posting photos of how adorable the kids/pumpkins/jackolanterns/haunted houses are. Then all the rest of the good posters will have to reply "Wow what a great Power Ranger/Bo Peep/Ghost/Cinderella!!!" to every single post. Really compounds the Halloween posts that way.
Good thinking Marielle!!! I will post all of the Party pics on Sunday!!!!

Yes, he called at 7:45 am Monday to tell me that he had to go to MD that afternoon for the week. If things didn't start hitting the fan it would be better. I tried calling him. He will be home Friday night but we wont be able to discuss anything until Saturday. I am praying that the kids don't get suspended tomorrow...that will only make it worse. Yesturday when they were fighting with my friend's DS they were on school grounds. A talk DS had today with the counselor about other things brought that "disagreement" up. I never thought that it could affect them all that way since it wasn't during school. I am praying that nothing else is done about it. :(

Halloween Corners Game (Good for ages 3 - 8)

Stick up large Halloween themed pictures (ie witch, bat, ghost and black cat) in the four corners of a room. Play some music and when it stops, each child runs to a corner (if you have small numbers you can limit the number of children in each). The music operator without looking then calls out one corner. The kids in that corner are out. The last person left is the winner.

The Travel Channel is showing the DCL show right now.

I have it on my ipod, I watched it at bowling last night and made my friend Tony jealous! (He was the one whom I invited on the cruise, instead he meet a boy and decided not to put aside the money.) Now he wants to cruise, TOO BAD, I have cool cruise buddies now!!!!!!

Well, since you guys are all busy, I decided to try out a widget I downloaded for my dashboard on my Mac. It shows you the lyrics for any song you have playing on iTunes.

I just love this song - don't like the whole album, but the refrain from this song makes me think of my Sophia . . .

I'm gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So you'll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you

BTW PJ,

We will now not be your neighbor at SSR on the 5th.

Our waitlist came through for the one night I had to add at OKW.

Unfortunately, however, we will still have to move on the 6th, since we have a 2 bedroom starting then.

So, you don't have to say, there goes the neighborhood - banana John is in town!

OMG! That banana thread is a RIOT! I was laughing so hard I couldn't sign back on. Then of course the "quiet ones" (yeah you Suzanne) come out and post about the a banana protector! And Brack - all serious in response to that ladies 3-4 banana comment. :lmao: I was waiting to see Amy post on the banana holder - or was that you John1. Where is that picture of it.

I wanted so bad to reply but I didn't want DCL to see my name on a thread like that never mind that it is on this one. Karen you are so so fresh. Becka, Brandi - sooooo innocent. I could see your "who me" eyes all the way over here.

That just made my night. Of course I say that everytime I come on here. What did John1 write earlier about on a break from life to DIS. That statement says it all!

Well guys, I am going to be MIA for the day tomorrow . . .

I know it breaks your hearts as much as it breaks mine (I will be the one pages and pages behind). I will be at a labor law seminar for work, and to get some CLE credit for my license. It should be a thrilling day.

It is put on by the law firm that handles our negotiations, and about 1,000 people attend every year, from all over the country. One year, they even had Jerry Springer as the lunch speaker.

After that, I have a benefit dinner to go to for our HS Boys Basketball team.

So it may be a late night before you see me again.

We had horrendous winds here today. Our freestanding canopy in our backyard flew across the yard, (probably tumbled over and over) and wound up next to the fence (about 40 feet away)... knocking over everything in its path, and shattering the glass top patio table. I guess we should be lucky it didn't flip over the fence into the neighbor's yard.

That canopy was over $300 and we've only had it since August :( It's all bent up now. It gets windy sometimes but it's never been bad enough to blow stuff like this around, ugh.

No sense in running to the hamocks both days we are on CC - -

We just get all the kids together for a friendly game of bingo, and the "winners" get more than a trinket or other item of value, but get to stay all week on CC to hold the hamocks for the adults.

Are kids allowed on CC all week? We could leave some of the bananas so they won't go hungry.

:guilty: I hope things don't get out of control with that! The kids would be heartbroken if that happened to them!

They do that at our skating rink with numbers! The kids love it! :thumbsup2

Paul Simon - Father and Daughter

We had horrendous winds here today. Our freestanding canopy in our backyard flew across the yard, (probably tumbled over and over) and wound up next to the fence (about 40 feet away)... knocking over everything in its path, and shattering the glass top patio table. I guess we should be lucky it didn't flip over the fence into the neighbor's yard.

That canopy was over $300 and we've only had it since August :( It's all bent up now. It gets windy sometimes but it's never been bad enough to blow stuff like this around, ugh.

Wind? Glass table? Been there, done that.

We came home one afternoon after a high wind day (was it Isabel?) and found that our glass patio table (with umbrella) was dragged across the deck, slammed up against the deck railing, the umbrella flipped upward and destroyed, and the glass part of the table was obliterated into thousands of shards that flew to the ground, 10 feet below into the grass. I spent an hour trying to pick up the pieces and then said forget it....invested in a shop vacuum at Home Depot which helped a great deal. I bet I looked funny in the yard vacuuming the grass.... :rolleyes1

Just this grandma's opinion, but I think we have gone WAY to far with the "no tolerance" c**p. Kids are going to be kids, there are going to be squabbles and occasionally a push or a shove. They get consequences for that and learn proper behavior, but suspending from school at the drop of a hat is obsurd. IMHO.
One of DG's friends was attacked by another kid (this is HS, NOT elementary) and refused to defend himself because he knew he would get suspended if he "fought". He took several punches because he is a very good student and good kid and did not want to risk having a suspension on his record. He was able to get hold of the kid's hands and hold him after a few punches, and they were even threatening to suspend him for THAT!! Now you got me going!

Cruise fever is starting to infect the whole family except for Allie who really does not understand what is in store for her just yet. ;) Nathan keeps asking how many days and I love to see his reactions as he realizes that it won’t be too much longer before we are on the Mickey Boat again. His excitement is contagious. I did tell him about Samantha and Haley (Vanessa’s girls) and how we would be eating dinner with them on the Mickey Boat. I was able to show him the pictures on our website and that excited him even more. He loves that they have been to WDW and on the Mickey Boat before too – just like him. :yay:
