Hi everyone, I am new to cruising, but not new to WDW and DL.

We're cruising on the Wonder starting Jan. 29th after 4 days in the parks :dance3:  :cool1: :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: I am so excited. Can you tell?

Anyone else booked for that 3 day event?
I have read just about every cruise report. We will be celebrating a big anniversary :love2: and this time the boys will stay home :crazy2:

Hi there!

We will be on this cruise as well - we are booked b2b for the 4 night then this 3 night

We are a family of 5 - me & DH & DD 10.5, DS7, DS4 - my DD turns 11 the day we disembark!

Congrats on your anniversary - how many years? :yay:

Hey samily :) so glad I'm not going to be alone on that big ship
How come you are taking 2 cruises instead of a 7 day outing?

This is our first cruise and I am super excited.
The only way I could get my, not so Disney crazed, husband to go was to suggest to him that it would be nice to vacation alone (leaving the 15 year old twins at home ;) ) and to celebrate our 30th anniversary. He loved that idea and so I booked before he could change his mind.

I am thinking that he's thinking that I won't expect that huge diamond. I don't know why he would think that:rotfl2:

We ended up with the b2b rather than a 7 night b/c it was 3500.00 cheaper for the category we wanted!! Also my SIL & her family wanted to do a short cruise for their first time, so they were going to book the 3 night. It turned out that she caught the bug and ended up booking the b2b as well!

It's funny, our first DCL cruise my DH wasn't a die hard Disney fan either - but we have now been on 5 DCL cruises so he has been converted!! :rotfl: It's actually the place he gets his best nights sleep and is also able to nap!

Congratulations on 30 years!!! You better start dropping some hints to him about that ring though...;)

Looks like we're going to have the ship to ourselves...

Wow, that's quite a savings.
Actually instead of that diamond, I am hoping that the DVC CMs corner Mike and hold him hostage (not too difficult on a boat ;) ) until he signs the papers for a membership

yes, we wanted to do the 7 night, but i couldn't justify that price difference. now i look at it as getting all my favorites twice - 2 sailaway parties, 2 castaway cay days, etc, etc. my sil is also trying to recruit other members of the family to join us at least on the 3 night so i am looking forward to it!

good luck with dvc - i keep telling my dh that we should have bought it years ago - it would easily have paid for itself! :rolleyes1

only if we get lucky :wizard: - normally the 4 night is one nassau day, one cc day & one day at sea. there are some 4 nights that do a double dip at cc, so no sea day, but they are usually scheduled in the summer months i think.

we had a nice surprise on our last cruise in January - at check in the cm says to us "i have some bad news for this cruise" :scared1: and I start thinking of all the things that could be wrong - we can't get the room we booked, we're coming back early, etc. - a million things went through my mind in that split second before she said "we'll be spending 2 days at cc instead of having a sea day" what a great thing to hear! that was actually the 2nd 4 night cruise that we unexpectedly ended up geing a 2nd day at cc - it happened a few years back due to weather - the first day on cc was rather windy & had rain showers in the afternoon, so they took us back the next day - which was perfect weather. :cool1:

how do your boys feel about you guys leaving them at home? we're planning a short trip for our anniversary in sept - the first without kids - my dd would be highly insulted if she knew we were considering doing dcl without her - haven't decided where we're going yet :rolleyes1

Nice surprise those "bad news" :)

I don't think I'd mind a day at sea. I am actually contemplating not leaving the ship on Nassau day. At least not all day. We'll see.

My boys are very wonderful travelers and they always humored me and my Disney addiction. But they opted out of any future Disney trips. They like going up to British Columbia or Alaska and go fishing. They are outdoorsey kinda people. I on the other hand would like nice feathered beds and I'd like to have the cabana boy bring me a drink.
The only thing that upsets them is that they have to go to school while we're gone, heehee.

You know, we were married for 14 years before we had those two and did Disney by ourselves. So much fun!! :rolleyes1

I was a little nervous at the beginning of that cruise as it was a little chilly in Orlando, but the weather turned out to be perfect once we left the port, and 2 days at CC - it was wonderful! :yay:

Maybe we should give this cruise a "special" name, like so many others do. That may attract some more cruisers. On the other hand, I was worried about not getting into Palo :dance3:

I booked a 3 night for this October for just my DH & myself for our anniversary. :yay: This will be the first time vacationing without the kids so I'm still a little nervous about that... But now we can try all the adult things we've never had the opportunity to do in the past....Serenity Bay , here I come!

Yay for you. Go online and buy that special romance package and book some couples stuff at the spa  And enjoy Serenity Beach.
How very exciting. Happy Anniversary to you *now where is that smiley with the champagne bottle?*

My boys are going on 15 and this cruise will be the first vacation without them. I am not worried, they're not interested in Disney, they can entertain their grandma for a week :rotfl:

Wow, I can't believe it's still just the three of us!

Anyway, I just learned that my in-laws are taking us on the NCL Majesty to Bermuda next summer to celebrate their 50th anniversary. It will also be our 20th anniversay, and we honeymooned in Bermuda, so it will be special for us as well. I'm just worried that entire cruise I'll just be comparing NCL to DCL, and that our daughters will be doing the same thing.

We'll just have to rebook on the Wonder, and go again Jan of 2010.

Congratulations to all that traveling:cool2:

I have to get back to :laundy: talk with all 2 of you later:laughing:

Hi! We'll be joining you on the cruise and we are so excited! This is our first cruise! It will be me, DH, and DS (3). My father and his wife are also cruising with us. We are planning 4 days in the parks before the cruise and a few days after the cruise. We live in South Dakota so we've been making a habit of heading to Disney for a warm up in January or February! Somehow the trips seem to get longer each year and now we added a cruise! Some year we may not return to the frozen tundra.:ssst:
We are still waiting to find airfare. We wanted to try Allegiant this time but the fares are only posted through August 15th right now. I suppose they are waiting to see how much to raise them!
Our biggest accomplishment for this vacation is to get DS potty trained so he can swim and go to the kid's club. So far, so good! And January is 8 months away so we shouldn't have any problems!:cool1:
Anyone concerned that it will be chilly in January?
This website has been very helpful. Thanks for all the great info!

Hi Minong1, welcome to the "Ship of Fools" :cutie:

We have pretty much the same situation, sans kids. We live in north west Michigan and usually spend 10 days at WDW in November. This time around my boys aren't going, they cannot spend time away from school.
I am so looking forward to doing Disney just being adults, like we used to many years ago.
This is our first cruise as well, it was just a natural add-on. I hope this will be fun. I am beginning to have mixed feelings.

I think no matter how cold it is in January, it's still warmer than here:goodvibes

Oh, I forgot to add that we'll be there for 5 nights before the ship goes off into the sunset.
1st night POP, because we arrive around midnight, the following nights at the Beach Club. Our first time at either resort. We usually only stay at POR, because we just love it there and don't want to take a chance of not liking a resort. I don't like change

Thanks for the welcome!
We have also stayed at POR the last two years and loved it but are trying the POFQ before the cruise and POP after the cruise.

It will certainly be warmer on the cruise than here! This year when we landed in Sioux Falls after our trip it was -22 degrees! What a shock and made it even harder to go home. The bus driver on ME joked that we should feel sorry for him because it was only going to be 70 degrees in Florida that day!

We also took one trip to Disney before DS and that's when I "hooked" my DH on Disney. Now he's almost as crazy as me. I don't want to insult him too much! We couldn't understand why anyone would go to Disney WITH kids before we had our son because we had such a great time together but then once he came along we couldn't wait to take him! :earsboy:

I'm sure you'll have a great adult time together for this vacation!

Welcome aboard Minong1! Your son is at a great age to start cruising. My youngest turned 3 a month before our last cruise this past January & I started telling him if he wanted to come with us on the Mickey ship, he had to use the potty. At some point a couple of months before his bday, he finally listened! Then everytime he would go, he would say"now I can go on the Mickey boat & I don't have to stay with Grandma" Quite funny - he is my 3rd child so I didn't have any guilt about it :lmao: So, if you find difficulty with the potty training, Mickey is a good incentive to fall back on ;)

We have cruised several times in Jan. & have been lucky with the weather - we cruise then to get a break from the cold here in New England too! I always get a kick out of seeing the FL people in their long pants and long sleeves when it's 70 degrees- we're there in our shorts and loving it! :rotfl:

Hey Googelibear - why are you having mixed feelings? :confused3

Because, my goodness, there are so many (in my little mind) complaints all over the place, specifically about the Wonder. I almost, last week, turned my cruise into a 10 day WDW only trip. No worries, I won't do it. I am committed to it. I have never had a bad experience anywhere at Disney. I am counting on my lucky streak ;)

You are all so lucky with the kids liking/loving Disney. Mine were never into it. Not at five years of age nor any other time. I always felt like I had to beg them.

Ok, you may have to stop reading the boards for a while! :badpc: :rotfl2:

Seriously, go in with an open mind & form your own opinions - I read some complaints on the boards and I'm like were we on the same ship?? We have been several times and have never had a serious complaint. The food has always been fine - some dishes better than others - if you find you don't like something, order something else - you're not stuck with it!

I am very much looking forward to our October adults only cruise to try all the adult only things on the ship - I'll have to let you know how that goes, but am anticipating it to be Wonder-ful! :rotfl:

I have been so busy. As soon as school's out, I get super busy with my business - we do live in a touristy kind of town. It won't let up until after Labor Day. I'll be a wreck by the time that comes around:headache:

What are you going to do for the summer? Can you get away? Will you go to WDW?

What kind of business do you have? At least busy is good!

Our big events this summer are my BIL's wedding next month & after we get through that we will be driving north to NH & Maine for a few days for my DS's 7th bday - we are usually on DCL for his older sister's bday, so he's excited we are taking a vacation for his bday this year!

We always hit the beach quite a bit also as all 3 kids love it. We usually don't head down to FL until the weather is cold here - it's our escape! ;)

I own a little resort in Michigan. Right by Lake Michigan and that starts getting busy TODAY :scared1: Which is great and it is not so great, because I cannot enjoy this beautiful area and the beaches like my friends, who don't work in the summer and just spend time fooling around. Not complaining though, it is fun but I won't have a break until late October :faint:

This last week until this morning, we housed some movie people here. They are filming a movie with Ray Liota and that cute little guy that was in "Juno" and is also doing the Mac/PC commercials on TV. I cannot remember his name.
Anyhooo, some of the "behind the scenes" guys and girls stayed with me and it was great fun to talk with them. One of them was the set decorator. He is from Australia. Fun to get the inside scoop :)

yay for your little guy, he gets his own birthday trip.

Hi fellow cruisers. Sorry I haven't been participating, but to tell you the truth, I'm not 100% positive that we'll be doing the cruise. I really want to, but since we've done it the last two years, and then we'll be doing the NCL Bermuda cruise next August, I'm just not sure I can justify it. We got a great deal on the cruise because we booked on board and very early, but I really worry about what's going to happen to the economy. I'm making plans as if we'll be going, but we won't make a final decision until the 90 day mark. Please, talk me in to going!

I'm making plans as if we'll be going, but we won't make a final decision until the 90 day mark. Please, talk me in to going!

Oh no, you have to come - we cruised together back in January! This time we could actually meet - our kids were probably in the clubs together last time and we didn't even know it! ;)

Hello,
My family is thinking about this cruise. We have been on 1 other cruise but it was not a Disney one. The day the cruise starts will be my daughter's 16th birthday. Right now we are checking prices. The cruise prices are great...but the flights are expensive. Any tips on finding cheap flights?
There are possibly 7 of us going.
My husband and me...my daugher with the birthday, my 13 year old son, and my mother. I am also inviting my daughter's best friend that will be 14 and my nephew who will be 12. I think it would be so much fun for my kids to both have a buddy there.
Well I will let you guys know when we make the final decision.

wow, that sounds so nice - i bet you meet a lot of interesting people each summer! must have been fun with the movie people there :) are you open year round or is it seasonal?

Ohmygoodness, I totally didn't see your post.
As a matter of fact, we do have some really interesting people here. Last week they filmed a movie with Ray Liota, and the one young guy that was in Juno (Drew Barrymore's boyfriend) and some others in our town and some of the behind the scenes people stayed with me. Too much fun to talk with them after they finished work and sat down and had cocktails with us :3dglasses. Heehee, I felt like Mrs. Fooffooffnick, drinking with the movie crowd.

Anyhooo, lots of work but lots of fun as well.

Hi ReneaB, good to see you. Welcome to the Ship of Fools ::yes::
I could cry about the prices I had to pay for the plane tickets to Florida for this cruise.
Last year the identical tickets cost me $ 278. per person. These tickets were $ 600. per person. My husband does not want to know what anything costs so not to keel over and die from the shock :scared1: And I won't tell him.

I have no tips for you in that direction. But! I don't know where you fly out of, maybe you should go and look at the Dings for NWA. I have to fly out of a little airport and change at either Detroit or Chicago. Those flights are always more expensive:furious:

Thanks for the welcome!!! We will be flying out of Indianapolis. I live an hour north of Indy. I will do some checking around for flights. I just hate to spend so much to fly to Florida when we can only stay long enough for the cruise. I will be taking my kids out of school for the cruise, but I don't want them to miss more than 3 days. Seems like a lot of money to pay to fly there for that short amount of time. Though I know if I wait and go when school is out....the price of the cruise itself will be much higher.
Your husband sounds like my husband!! I have not even told him how much the quote for the flight is yet. LOL

I know what you mean about paying so much for a one hour flight, for goodness sakes.

I have one recommendation for you. Go through your local travel agent. Yes, they charge you a commission of around $30., but they keep an eye out for you for the best prices and they can place holds on seats until they can talk with you. I wish I had done that, but I jumped the gun when the prices kept going up every hour while I was searching. My agent could have gotten those tickets for me for $ 900.00 compared to $ 1200.
So, bad for me. But you might benefit from my trigger finger

Good luck :)

Welcome!!!

For flights, check out Southwest - they fly out of Indianapolis and usually run some great specials; however they are only booking through October right now - January won't be released for another couple of months. But to give you an idea, checking out October flights coming in on Wednesday evening 10/1 & flying out Sunday 10/5 they are priced at 69.00 per person & 109.00 per person! We always find great pricing from them - we got our October flights for 77.00 pp & 109.00pp!

Also not sure if Jetblue flys out there or not, but we booked our January flight down to MCO for 114.00 ea I believe; however they are only booking through 1/31/ right now so we have not booked coming home yet.

Good luck with your planning! Hope you guys end up on board with us! :goodvibes

As far as he knows we are just going to POP for a week... little does he know we are only spending one night at POP.;) I'm going to make something up like I requested a room by the pool and they didn't give us one soooooo don't unpack your bags. I will have the bags transported to the Wilderness Lodge (I rented DVC points from my friend).
Shawn and Dexter are going to spend some bonding time on the little water boats and me and Skylar are going to check into the Lodge.
I'm planning on having dinner at one of the restaurants there so after dinner I'm going to say... why don't we walk around the DVC section?
Then we'll go up to our room (where I have already placed a big gift box on the bed.) I'll tell him, well lets go to our room... when he turns to leave I'll say, "our room is right here." In the box will be a few gifts and our cruise documents.:woohoo:

My name is Iris.
A pain in the neck name, when you have a garden-freak father who plants more Iris' than you can shake a stick at and he then expects you to remember all their botanical names such as "Iris Hollandica", "Iris Germanica", etc. All when you're about 8 years old. Yep! Skylar is our happy ending! Doesn't even feel like that happened anymore.
This will be her first trip to DW!:woohoo: (well second if you count when I was pregnant last Sept)

Yes, I would count that... I count Jacob's 1st cruise as the one when I was pregnant with him ;) It was a September cruise and we were trying to outrun Hurricane Jeanne! It was amazing between the boat rocking & the pregnancy I never got sick thank goodness!

natale1980
07-23-2008, 03:22 PM
That's too funny! Dexter's first cruise I was pregnant with him!! :)

:scared1: Oh my goodness were we on the same September cruise!!??!! WHEN DID YOU GO!!!!! We were out running Hurricane Jeanne too!!!!! It was the seven night that ended up going to Puerto Rico.

Wow, isn't that funny! So when was Dexter born? There must only be a couple of months between him & Jacob. Jacob was 12/22.

We were only on the 3 night. We ended up sailing to Cozumel which then turned the cruise into a 4 night which was nice. We also disembarked in Fort Lauderdale instead of Port Canaveral. We missed CC that trip - they mentioned stopping to pick up the CM's there, but if we did end up stopping to get them it must have been in the middle of the night. You guys must have been the first cruise to go to CC after the hurricane. I was disappointed we didn't get there, but was happy with the extra night!

natale1980
07-24-2008, 01:58 PM
Dexter was born on March 29th 2005.

Yep! We were the first at CC.
BUT we did miss CC on our honeymoon in '99 because of a hurricane. Thats why we are going in January this time.

Hi! :welcome: to the boards! I'm sure you will have a great time on your first cruise! Check out the forum for answers to lots of common questions on DCL.

Are you traveling alone or with family or friends? Dcl is nice because they have something for everyone... :goodvibes

I'm sure you guys will have a great time! My DH & I are doing an adult only 3 night in October - the first time we are cruising without the kids. I was very hesitant at first to be going without them, but now I can't wait to try all the adult things we've never been able to do in the past! Serenity Bay, here we come! :)

:cool1: Less then six months to go!!!

This surprise thing is getting funny!! This weekend Shawn said that he really wishes we could go on a cruise!
That made me want to keep it a surprise even more!!! I can't wait to see the look on his face when I tell him while we're in Disney. "We are leaving on Thursday!!!!" I'm going to try my hardest to get it on video.

I still have to find my Birth certificate and pick up Skylar's.
I already purchased a baby float that I can blow up at Castaway. I hope they don't make a big deal out of it - cause technially your not supposed to have one. BUT they don't have any baby ones you can rent. :confused3

So what have you all 'packed' or put aside already??

-nat

samily
08-05-2008, 03:42 PM
That is the absolute best surprise! You've got great will power!

We have our passports so we are all set there, but I have started to pick up little things here and there for the fish extender exchange we are doing on the 4 nighter right before this sailing. I also hit the Disney Store a few weeks ago & they were having a great clearance sale, so I picked up a few things there as well.

How about you - are you doing costumes again for the kids in WDW?

Speaking of fish extenders, anyone here interested?

natale1980
08-05-2008, 04:13 PM
Will power? I'm not sure if it's will power or knowing that he may make me cancel if he knows! :lmao:

Speaking of fish extenders - what are fish extenders?

I'm not sure if we are going to do costumers this year. I guess it depends on if they have good sales after halloween or not.

I'm very jealous that you are doing back to back cruises!! I really wanna do a 7 day next.

-nat

samily
08-05-2008, 08:22 PM
lol - you should have booked a suite - that deposit is non refundable - than you couldn't cancel!!!

The fish extender exchange was started years ago by a Diser - do you remember the pewter fish that is outside of every stateroom door? People hang a pocket organizer on it and your fellow participating cruisers on your meets thread leave little surprise gifts in it throughout the cruise. We have never done it before, but thought it would be fun so we are doing it on the 4 night - this is one surprise I am keeping from the kids- I think they'll love finding little treats in there every day!

Here are some threads on fish extenders :

This one talks about the little "gifts":
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1774643

This one has some pics of them hanging outside staterooms:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1219607

Yeah, we wanted to do a 7 night too and when we priced it, the 7 night was significantly more than the b2b. Also my DSIL wanted to try cruising so was originally going to do the 3 night with us. She ended up booking the b2b in the end! Turns out she will be cancelling anyway - she just found out she is pregnant again so will be too far along to sail...I'm going to be an auntie again!!! :goodvibes

I think we are going to rebook onboard for the 7 night - can't decide between the eastern & western - have you picked one yet?

natale1980
08-05-2008, 09:41 PM
fish extenders are cool! I wana play!!! One more thing I am going to have to sneek into our bags!!!

I was thinking about re booking Nov 09 they are going to castaway twice!!! It's really my favorite stop.

Know what funny??? Shawn is in the room most of the time I am posting about the cruise!!! :lmao: He's so clueless!!

-nat

samily
08-05-2008, 10:46 PM
I'll be happy to do the fish extender exchange with you guys, but at this rate, we may be the only ones - where has everyone else gone?? Are all you guys out there still coming?? ;)

CC twice sounds great :cloud9: - too bad they don't do that more often! Is that all month in November or only certain dates?

I had to laugh when I came home today, John was reading the disboards - he makes fun of me & I end up catching him lurking!!! :rotfl: So make sure Shawn doesn't decide to check them out! :headache: Not that he'd think to check the cruise forum anyway

natale1980
08-06-2008, 07:53 AM
I think this board will get more traffic as the day gets closer. I hope anyway... there is no way we are the only Dis on the whole boat!!

November only has one date in 09 for that special cruise... I think it is the 15th.

I hope Shawn doesn't start reading Dis!!! I'm sure he would just go under my name and read my faves!! Maybe I should log out each time!! :scared1:

By the way... did the name for our cruise ever stick?? I think I remember something like 'ship of fools' ?

my older two start school in 13 days & jacob is starting preschool in september - how about dexter?

natale1980
08-14-2008, 03:17 PM
Dexter already knows his shapes, colors, letters, numbers and can count to 20. (not to mention killer computer skills) Right now I am working with him on basic math and reading.
All we could afford was the park district program, so I figure I'll work with him this year and put him in a pre-school next year.

I'm really nervous about whether he'll adjust well or not. Hopefully he'll adjust, if not there's always next year ,right?

so, so true (on both points)

so which parks are you planning on hitting precruise? we're coming in late on the friday night before our sunday cruise, so we'll only be doing 1 park on saturday. we're going to try epcot this year - made reservations for lunch at coral reef. we don't have flights home yet, so not sure what will will be doing when we get off the ship.

natale1980
08-16-2008, 09:41 AM
Pre-Cruise we'll be there 5 days. So I'm sure we'll hit everything.
Post-Cruise we're heading back to Disney for one more night. We'll still have tickets left but that will be a 'go with the flow' time.No big plans - time to relax. We'll fly back late Monday.
We still don't have plane tickets! Waiting for SW top realise the dates.
If your going to coral reef you should do one of those custom menus everyone is doing! They look really cool!!

-nat

samily
08-16-2008, 04:44 PM
have you been to epcot with kids? any recommendations? it was actually my dh's idea to go to coral reef, so of course i come here to the boards to start reading about it & i find out about the custom menus and the diver, so if i can get those done (not sure if they still do the diver or not, i have to call) that will be my surprise for him & the kids- he has no idea...hope it works out. how is your surprise going - still no idea?

Have fun at Disney... we'll be there 24th - 29th and then again for a night after the cruise.

With DH and I alone there this time, I am going to shlepp him to a DVC demonstration AND will personally guide him through my favorite DVC properties. I am already scoping out any great bars these resorts have, cause he likes a cocktail or two in the PM :lmao:

Well Beth and Nat, Darrrrlinks, here's the deal with the scuba stuff. I am trying to lighten the load in my house. Everything that's not necessary get's tossed. My cleaning lady loves me for it.

Anyhoo, we'll be staying at POFQ. I can't afford to stay at a deluxe. Although, I priced WL and that's "only" $700 more than the mod. I am torn and still debating with myself - but booked at POFQ for now.

Maybe we can meet for a quick drink at Epcot before you're off and cruising?

natale1980

It's going along with the Biggest Loser on TV.
We are in teams and there are little challenges to lose weight. I don't think the winner (AKA biggest loser)gets anything but an icon to put in their siggy BUT it's good motivation.

I want to lose another 10-20lbs. We'll see. I'm only about 7lbs away from my 'goal' weight... but now I'm just getting greedy!! Plus I know I'm going to gain on our vacation!!!

Ok, gotcha.. sounds like a fun way to motivate... :) How many teams are there? I think I've seen red & blue so far...

Funny weight should come up here too. Just last week I told my mousebuzz friends that I lost 22 pounds in 3 weeks and am so happy to have smaller clothes to look forward to.

good luck to you, Nat :)

22lbs in 3 weeks! wow, that is very impressive! :woohoo:

Thanks. :)

So I just found out about the free admission to one of the parks on your bday. It is my dd's 11th bday the day we get off the ship! We weren't planning on going to a park that day but maybe I should rethink that. I wanted to fly home that day though, so that may make it too hectic...hmmm...what to do...lol

natale1980
09-23-2008, 12:24 PM
Did you read what you get if you already have tickets??? You can get a gift card for the price of a ticket.... I'm guessing that would be around $100!!! So if you guys are going to the parks BEFORE the cruise just buy an extra day, it will be cheaper to add on to your park tickets from before the cruise then to buy everyone one a new ticket afterwards... it will still be good when we get off the boat (I think they are good for 14 days) and then you can get a gift card to spend the money on her BD!!!!

Very cool! I will look into that, thanks! :goodvibes

Which park would you suggest for a short day? (I think we will still fly home that evening). We are doing Epcot before the cruise, did AK last year, so that leaves MK which we have done several times & love or Hollywood Studios which we've never been to before... Figure we would be to WDW by 10 & have to leave probably around 4 or 5 to head to the airport.

Can't wait for the cruise......spending 7 days @ WDW first..........Staying at Saratoga Springs. We are a family of four - two kids (son-9 & daughter -10).....We go to Disney every year and did go on the cruise before when my son was 3 1/2......Actually, not the BEST time......unfortunately the wind was a little strong on Castaway Cay day - they tried to dock the boat 3 or 4 times and found they could not dock it safely - So we were forced to spend the day at sea!! :sad1:Needless to say we were all bummed:confused3 .......on top of that - chasing my son around the ship:yay: for hours got a little old:sad2: .......he was not yet completely potty trained - so he would need to go to the nursery which did cost money and he was a little old for it - so we just kept him all day....my daughter just stayed in the pool:yay: ...I'm sure the kids had a GREAT time..........but I vowed to not go on a cruise again until they were much older..........WELL, that time has come!! We are all very excited and cannot wait to FINALLY get to Castaway Cay!!:woohoo:

Man, I thought I was the only one ever (except for the others on my boat) that missed out on CC........! I have heard of it happening.......they said that it was only the third time in the history of the ship!!  but I'm so curious what happened on your trip? What time of the year was it? How was the weather? It was actually nice out on our trip - but they said the wind was blowing just the wrong way enough to make the docking very difficult.....sooooo depressing:sad1: Did you have the kids with you?
We decided to go to the aquarium & the beach on Nassau day.......you got me thinking about hanging on the ship - now I am confused....maybe the kids would like to stay in the Oceaneers Lab.....? We have to do our bookings at the end of the month........what do you think?:confused3

Maybe it was the third time due to wind. But it seems like CC has been closed down a few more then three times. In 1999 when we cruised our first time they said that was CC first closure. :guilty: we get all the luck!

Since your kids are older it may be fun to take them to the aquarium & the beach. Ours are still going to be little. Sklyar won't turn one until a week after the trip :) You can always book it and change your mind later.

We had a great time! What a difference without the kids in tow...everything was so easy and laid back! Definitely glad we did it - I was nervous about leaving the kids but they had fun with their grandparents and I got over leaving them pretty quickly! ;) It also made disembarkation much better than usual - I was looking forward to seeing the kids again so I was not sad to leave as I usually am...also knowing we would be back in a few months helped too! lol

For the most part we had good weather - late in the day on CC day we had downpours and thunder & lightning but we had gotten off the ship early so we had plenty of sunshine & time on CC. Here's a couple of pics from CC:

Hey samily!
Would you know anything about the snorkling equip at CC? My DBF wears glasses and we have been able to rent goggles from other places (Bahia State Park in the Keys) that were prescription strength - or at least more magnified then the basic ones  - they had a bunch of different ones for him to peer into before he found a pair that worked. If we dont have to special order a pair that would be great. I have done a search on the forum but cant seem to find any info on this!
Back to work - we just hit the 30s here in upstate NY so i have been surfing the boards and pretending that i am already on the boat in a tropical paradise :surfweb: ......
Thank you so much.....

It is only going to cost our family $78!!! Disney quoted me $196!!! It even seems like the plan I picked covers more!! Up to $500,000 per person for medical. That really is the only reason I wanted insurance... I'm sure we won't need it (we're all healthy) but you never know.

Well so far since that incident, the big trips we have planned have been cruises :) For land vacations, I think it would depend on how much we spend up front & whether or not it is refundable. Also, it would depend on the quality of medical care where we were going and what my own personal health insurance would cover. For example, we did a road trip for a few days over the summer - I didn't consider any insurance for that. Speaking with various insurance companies, most would have covered the accident in Cancun, both the medical portion as well as reimbursing for my portion of the trip costs (since I was basically out of commission for the entire trip), they also would have covered any fees I incurred if I had decided to fly home early. The past couple of years I have had bad luck on vacation - the year before for our WDW trip, I ended up coming down with a Noro-type thing and that knocked me out for a few days :headache: Hopefully I never have to use the insurance, but it makes me feel better having it :)

guitardiva

I am a former travel agent I have to say , I cringe at the thought of doling out thousands to go on a trip and not have any travel insurance. Expecially when it involves travel to foreign countries. Being on most ships , Disney or not , you ARE on foreign soil. If you were to get hurt , your reg health insurance may not cover it.
Also there is the practile stuff. You pay on a trip for a year, what happens (knock on wood) if someone gets sick or there is a situation that hinders you from going. You get a flat tire on the way to the airport.
I mean I love Disney , but would not want to just give them my money. Right?

hm21999
10-28-2008, 11:18 AM
I bought our trip insurance through insuremytrip.com and feel that it was well worth the piece of mind! I had opted for disney's travel insurance but after i found the boards and heard about the great rates that offered coverage on everything (we did not book air through disney) i called disney and opted out - and then purchased it much much cheaper through insuremytrip. Disney was very sweet about the whole thing. :goodvibes

Hi everyone. We will be cruising with you all after spending five days in the parks. My party is Dh, our two boys who will be seven then, ILs, and myself. This will be the first cruise for all of us and the first time we have traveled with the ILs. They will just be joining us for the cruise so shouldn't be bad. Dh, the boys, and I love going to WDW and DL so think this should be a fun addition. I lobbied for a week cruise but was out voted with people wanting to ride rides.

I thought it was time we fixed that :santa: Wish we would have been able to go to WDW before hand but we are flying in just for the cruise and then back home again - we both have our own business so it is hard to pull away - but we are not clueing the staff in that cell phones work now on the boat :rolleyes1

I agree too! That's the best thing about the cruise - being totally disconnected from everything!

Yes, Happy Halloween!

Yeah, that bounce back thing really has me trying to figure how to take advantage of it, but I don't think it will end up working out for us unfortunately

On the spa, the only thing we have tried is the exotic rasul. I booked a massage for my DH this time around. Once on the ship, you may want to take a look at their onboard specials - they seem to be good deals.

I was thinking about the bounce back thing and it wouldn't really be the best thing for us... My DH is a union electrician and it's really not a good idea to take time off work in the fall. You don't really want to give them an excuse to lay you off first.
His company did it's third round of lay-offs today... seems like he's working at least one more week. :thumbsup2 The first set was at the end of the summer!!!
All I know is I'm not cancelling this cruise!!! Good thing he doesn't know about it :rolleyes1
Plus we are almost to the point of no return!! :rotfl2:
Did anyone book anything today? I think we are at the 90 day mark today... right?
I'll be makeing our final payment next Friday when I get my paycheck.

Its getting close. :)
I made my final payment a few days ago. Whoo hoo! . Its real now. :)

I was thinking about reserving a spa treatment , but I think I will wait and shoot for a on board special.

Meanwhile I'm sitting here sick. Yuck. Phneumonia is not a fun way to spend Halloween. :(

We booked a Palo dinner with my parents and the sting rays on CC. And I registered the kids for the clubs - it's definitely starting to feel real now! :woohoo:

I can't believe you've been able to keep this from him for so long- that is so cool!

Guitardiva, hope you are feeling better soon! :goodvibes
