View Full Version : What's your sexual orientation?

So, now that we have established that there is at least one of everyone on the boards, I figured it would be kind of cool to see in a private response poll, just how the posters identified themselves.

Well, cut me a little slack on the choices. I am tired and it's storming, so I really have no business being online right now. I realize the choices could have been worded better and been much more grammatically correct and spelled better too.

Oiy!

I'm gay. I tried to be straight, really I did, it just didn't work out for me. Kind of a "been there, done that, didn't want the T-shirt" type thing.

I am 100% lesbian, but in my younger years (read TEEN years), which were so very long ago, I tried playing for the other team, but was very, very happy to be traded at the ripe age of 20.

I dated guys in high school and college, but I just never achieved a level of intimacy outside of the bedroom that made me want to go into the bedroom. I, even, had a couple of proposals, which just floored me when they happened, because these guys believed that I was worthy of spending the rest of their lives with and I couldn't even imagine spending the night.

Finally, somewhere along the way, I allowed myself to dump all of the "straight world programming" and follow my heart. My biggest hurtle was finding a way to keep my relationship with God intact. I may not be a regular church goer, but I do have a personal relationship with God and I didn't want to lose that. I spent a good couple of years on that one. Somewhere along the way, I fell in love HARD for a friend and when she broke my heart, it hurt worse than anything that I had ever felt before. I didn't even identify it as me being in love until she said that she never wanted to see me again. I was devastated. It was right then and there that I knew that no man had ever made me feel that way and that I had better get busy following my heart or else my life was going to pass me by with no real love or happiness.

In my early twenties, I dated a lot. I found out that there was a DEEP level of intimacy with some of these women. I found that it translated into wanting to go inside the bedroom. :woohoo:

I'm bi. My gf and I broke up in February (well, she broke up with me). I've been on-and-off sad about it since. Basically, I still have feelings for her, but she only loves me "as a friend/sister".

I'm developing a crush on another one of my best friends. Who's a girl. And straight. Yikes!

Basically, I've only had one relationship so far, and it was with my best friend. I'm young, though, so I still have time!

I am bisexual.

I only fully realized this towards the end of college. I can remember as early as middle school have fantasies about women and wondering if that made me a lesbian. But at the same time I knew I was attracted to men and had crushes on boys in school. I think a lot of gay and lesbian people figure out what their sexual orientation is after trying dating/sex with the opposite sex and realizing that something isn't right about that for them. But things did feel right with guys in high school, so I think I just wasn't pushed to think about whether I also liked girls; and I don't really think that there were any individual girls in high school that I was attracted to.

When I got to college I got involved with the GLBT group as an ally and that was the first time I was really around any significant number of GLBT people. That was also the first time I really felt sexually interested in particular women I knew. Even then, I was a little hesitant to identify as bisexual--I almost felt like since all of the GLBT group members first knew me as a straight ally, that I needed "proof". So it was only after the first time I become sexually involved with a woman that I actually started identifying as bi.

I should have kept reading and voted "I am not sure what I am yet!". Let me see...I thought I was a CSP (straight cool person ;) ) for 46 years and then realized that wasn't quite accurate. I don't know whether to say I'm bi or lesbian, but I voted lesbian because I really feel that I am. Strange to think about and I'm in counseling to sort all this out (should have started with the current counselor long ago).

Same here. I consider myself a "non-practicing" lesbian. I always considered myself straight-but I don't really think that fits either. I don't know that I fit in ANY of the boxes...but I guess personality wise-lesbian comes the closest.

I've been considering counseling too-but I've kind of dismissed the idea because it seems silly at my age...but then...you're my age....

Go to counseling! HOWEVER find someone who is an expert in this field. I used to go to someone who wasn't and quit when I really realized I started with the sexuality questioning. I knew she wouldn't have any knowledge about it (and she wasn't a very good counselor, anyway--I actually needed someone who was going to question me more and wasn't going to simply make my husband out to be the bad guy, which she was basically doing). Anyway, the person I now see has been doing this sort of counseling for 30 years and seems to really understand.

Hee - I am a straight girl who was once the object of another girl's crush! We went to high school together, were very close friends, but I went away to college and she stayed home and went to community college. We saw eachother a bit during the summer, but then for her 21st b-day she had a huge blow-out at her beach house (she "inherited" it from her parents when they moved out of state) and after one too many swigs of the Thunderbird, she told me she had a mad crush on me for years. We kissed, then "dated" I guess for the rest of the summer, but looking back I don't really think I am bi. I think I was just uber-flattered that someone had such an infatuation with me.

Oh, and I read some study that concluded that straight women can and do get turned on by the notion of straight sex as well as gay/lesbian sex. I know I am all about the lovin' from my DH, but I still get turned on by noodie womenz.

Any other time, I'd jump at the chance! THIS AUGUST, however, is going to be VERY hectic for us. The BFGDW is in September, and I turn 40 in August, so there are plans afoot for some celebrating. So between wedding preperation and planning, and social obligaitons, I will be a basket case!

That said, we'll probably be at the Adventurers Club a couple evenings a week. It'll be the only thing keeping me sane (sane being a relative term, of course)

They keep the goings on fairly child friendly for the early hours. Typically, they do a "free preview" from 7 to 9pm where you don't need a ticket to enjoy the club. There tend to be lots of families with children for those shows. You're son would probably really enjoy it.

I was also reading that DS can go to the comedy club with us AND that it's NON-smoking! :thumbsup2 I think I need to pencil in a couple more nights at DTD! We have been missing out!

If we have regular APs do we get any sort of admission discount? Of course if AC is free from 7-9 PM that should work fine. The stupid Passholder site is down so I can't look at the benefits.

Yeah, I think you count.

Actually, I think that the societal suppression of half of oneself is one of the hardest things about being bi.

I'm happy to say that I'm in a monogamous marriage to a woman and that I fully expect to reach the 25 year mark still saying that. (Congratulations, btw.) But, I don't think that this makes me a lesbian.

Interest, attraction, fantasy are quite different from action.

I'm glad you voted as you identify...but, where are all the CSP? Are there really 86 of them around? Do they just lurk? Because, while I could name a dozen, I couldn't get to the 80s. If you're lurking, but voted, come say 'hi' and identify yourself--Welcome!

I'm not quite on the list. I identify mainly as straight, but had a 2 year relationship with another woman whom I loved very dearly. It was not a LUG thing (well after college just for starters.) My chemistry tends heavily towards men, but you fall in love with a person (or crush on, or swoon over) and for me, that person has on occasion been female. But I wouldn't go so far as to claim to be bisexual across the board. I guess if it's a scale of one to ten, I'm a three.. or a seven, depending on what's at either edge.

Oiy!

I am extremely gay (only do guys, but thinks women are beautiful in a non sexual sense) and proud and am happy that I live in a town that honors, respects, and gives diversity a shot. I am happy that I live near all the major theme parks, including Walt Disney World.

Ok changing status from a lurker and occasional poster to more active on this board. Yes, I am a gold star gay. The polling button I selected was I am a gay. I have only been intimately involved other with men. Let see if we can flush out more of the 276 voters and have them post starting with this thread. Don

I identify as gay. However, I'm not really out. My family knows but that's about it. I'm not out at work. In HS I tried a girl but quickly realized it wasn't for me.

I'm sorry but this made me laugh so hard!

I guess I could say I'm bi. I've dated both men and women and just happen to fall in love with a man. If I had found the right woman then I would be with her.

I'm bi. I'm married to a man, but I still have crushes on women. (I dated a few before I met him).

Straight. . . and only been with 1 man my whole life. He's only been with me, too. How rare is that?
We've been together since our late teens.
I have a cousin and a coworker friend who are gay.
Hi to everyone!

Both DH and I are bisexual (he calls himself ambi, like being ambidextrous lol), however now that we're married we have no intention on being with people of the same sex. I still appreciate a nice looking female, and him with good looking guys, but thats where it ends :)

"I am a bi-sexual. I identify as a man currenly intimately involved with a man."

The "currently" is 9 years... but yeah...

I had feelings for both sexes from a very early age. I remember being 3 years old and seeing a guy on a soap opera and thinking he was really cute. (beards are yummy) :woohoo:

On the flip-side, I have a sister who is 9 years older than me and she always had her girlfriends over to hang out. I had the BIGGEST crush on one of her friends to the point where I'm embarrassed anytime my sister brings it up. :sad2:

Anyhow, I'm bi. Thanks! :thumbsup2

I gotta learn to read dats better. I tried to vote and was told i had already voted. Checked the date--April 11th--I could not for hte life of me remeber voting in a poll like this in the past two days and FINALLY realized only after reading that Rob was weddig planing that it said 2008 Mystery solved, some time LAST YEAR I must have chimed in:rolleyes1

Maybe the boards should be re-named "The Straight Forum for people who like Gay People and the few gay people who actually are here" :rotfl2:

Yeah, like a couple of other of the girls I was totally surprised to see myself in the majority here:confused3
Bumping for a fresh round of voting. see above--you confused the heck out of me:lmao:

I am one of those straight girls who doesn't get along all that well with other girls but always seem to have gay friends. What's up with that anyway:confused3 I really don't quite understand why I tend to enjoy the company of gay men more than any other group (if you are grouping people based on preference) but there it is. Anyway I am still totally head over heels in love with DH and we have been a couple for nearly 20 years--since we were college Freshman (and I had a crush on him for a couple of years before that).

I'm straight but my brother is gay. He told me in September and my parents in October. I'd cried because I felt bad he had to go through it without the support of his family. I know he was scared but my parents took it well (I think they kind of knew) Anyway I love him for who he is and shout out to all who are proud.:cutie:

Gay here as well.
No confusion what so ever.

At birth, once I popped out, I swore I would NEVER go back.

Luckily, my entire family and friends had no problems.
I officially came out around 17/18.
Was 21 when I meet someone I liked and was my first time.
Been in 2 major relationships. Still happily in my second one
for about 5 years with many many more to come!
