I made our Sept Kona dinner ADR for a party of 6, because our friends will probably join us. Last year, we had to cancel Kona because we had an ADR only for our family, friends came to join us, and there were no larger tables available. I would hate to miss Kona again. If our friends decide not to come, can the three of us still keep the reservation?

As soon as you know that your friends won't join you call to reduce the party size. It's easier to do that then try to find a table for a larger party last minute.

If your friends don't show up at the last minute, you won't have a problem showing up with three on a reservation for six. We had a few dinners where part of our party didn't show up at the last minute (like 5 minutes before dinner) and we NEVER had a problem being seated with a smaller party.

I asked this question to the CM I was speaking with when I made my ADR's. We originally had 7 people for our trip and now it might just be the 5 of us. I made our ADR's at the 180 day mark for 7, then called back to change the very last ADR to only the 5 of us (I knew at that time the 2 others would not be joining us for our final meal). So, while I was on the phone, I asked what would happen if the other two friends decided not to come with us on our already planned dinners and she said just to tell them upon arrival that there was only 5 of us as the other 2 couldn't make it.
Before I get flamed here for leaving ADR's in place for 7 while I only need a table for 5, I want to add that my friends still are not sure if they will be joining us for the trip, but I have changed all but 2 of our ADR's to a table for 5. They have decided under no circumstances will they want to waste that much time at a sit down meal, they will just grab something quick. More power to them and I'm not gonna feel sorry for them if they change their minds (AGAIN) while we are there and find there is not a seat available for them!
I really think it will overall be easier for you to get a table for less people, then for more.

We are planning on having dinner with my cousin and her family for 4nights. for all nights we made ressies at the same time but we each have our own conf# We plan on getting to our ressies early and asking the hostess to sit us togather/next to each other(for CM & BOMA she linked the #'s), at least this way if someone from either party cant show up then the others wont loose their ressie, this is what the CMs I spoke with suggested. They also said something about booking 2 seperate tables with 1 ressie then you can cancel one table if somebody dosent show(my cousin wasnt comfortable w/this she wanted her own conf#) I know last year we had 6ppl when we would check in the hostess wanted to see everyone(sometimes my dad would be at the DSA so we would have to wait for him:rolleyes: )
