I'm trying to figure out if it would be worth it to use the DDP. It will only work for us if we can share meals. Anyone know if we can?

You can share counter service meals but not table service...they will not allow it.

Is this a new policy? I'm almost sure when we were there in 2005 for free dining we shared some table service meals (excluding buffets, of course).

They won't allow you to share buffets, but we have shared TS a few times. We were very polite, and tipped the waiter well for their trouble. Unless someone has come back this year and said you can't (new policy), then yes, depending on the waiter, you can share.

okay, another question...
Do children have to order off of the children's menu at cs restaurants, or can their credits be used for adult meals?

Yes...starting in 2007...every once in while you will get a CM that will over look it but it is a hard written rule now...it had been said it is grounds for dismissal if they allow you to do so (of a CM, not guest)...now that does not mean you cannot both order and share with each other...but you must both pay or use a credit

Children must order off the children's menu...sometimes if you ask for a child's portion of an adult item they will accommodate you

Hmmm. we did it in 2007 with no problem. Has anyone else heard this new rule? This is news to me.

That is not true.
You cannot share with people not on the plan, but yes, you can share on the plan. This does not apply to buffets or all you care to eat places (like GG or LTT)

Not to belabor the point, but so that I and everyone else understands:
Two people ON the dining plan can share 1 dinner at a non-buffet restaurant. Right?
For the record, I always get something to eat, either an appetizer or just an entree. And tip nicely, with a smile!

We have used the DDP free three times (with the fourth time coming up in Sept) and paid for the DDP three other times. Yes, you can share at TS restaurants (as long as they are not all you can eat items like buffets, the AYCE skillet at Whispering Canyon, character meals, etc). We normally always share and it has never been a problem. In fact, usually the waiter will have it split in the kitchen and bring it out on two plates. We are then charged just one credit off the DDP. It has never been an issue and we have been using the DDP since the first month it came out and as recently as Dec '07.
Now you can not share meal credits with people not on the DDP. That's a whole other issue. A CM can be fired for letting a table order more meals than credits are showing on their room key. In other words, if we have three adults in our room, we can not then order four meals.

We shared meals last week on the DDP. Each time our server made the suggestion. The first was at Beaches and Cream- the kids all wanted dessert but we wanted them to eat some actual food as well. The server suggested they split and then split a large dessert. Again at Rainforest Cafe (not on DDP) but the server also suggested we didnt order meals, just split a few appetizers and get the volcano, and once again at Coral Reef. We had ordered a cake and we were concerned about wasting food, the server said why dont you split. We ended up with 2 left over TS due to all the splitting that was suggested by the servers. I cant imagine why servers would be suggesting we split if the policy is to not allow it.

OP, why would sharing be the only way ddp would work for you? Just curious.:)

I eat really small meals, but I need to eat about 6 or 7 times a day. I absolutely can't eat more than about 10 or 15 bites at a time.

Op, I heard that some people have been able to obtain a note from their doctors, and they somehow get some sort of pass. Maybe you can check out the disability forum for more answers. I hope everything works out for you.:goodvibes
