I just got my cricut. When I take my paper off the mat it curls up really bad, when I put it back on it did not stay around the edges really good so I was afraid to use it. Does this mean I will waste any paper that I do not cut.

The first couple of times you use a fresh mat, the paper will curl when you pull it off, especially thin stuff like patterned paper. You might want to get the spatula tool to help get things off the mat. It probably would have been okay to cut with it, even though the edges weren't flat, there would have been lots of sticky in the middle part. Or you can always tape the edges with scotch or masking tape. I do that most of the time anyway to get more life out of my mats.

I really need that spatula tool, I can't find it in stock. What is best to use for getting letters off? I am messing up my cuts because I can't get them off real well, right noe I am using a wilton icing tool for decorating cakes but I think it is still to thik to go under the paper.

tweezers will do or the multipurpose tool from Creative Memories.

I like the spatula though.

my mat was also really sticky. i don't dare try the patterned paper again until it loses some of its sticky.

I found my spatula at Wal-Mart right before Christmas. I love it. I totally use my curled paper again, it usually turns out great.
