I severely messed up iphoto and lost ALL MY PICTURES!!! They were mostly the pictures of my DS, who is almost 2, and I only have his first 11 months backed up. I have some photos of the past year loaded onto Photobucket, and my parents have saved some of the best ones on their computer too but I am still devistated(sp?).
LET THIS BE A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - BACK UP ALL YOUR PHOTOS!!!

I am so sorry. I have been there myself. I stored all my photos (years worth) with an online company. I paid for the space, so I felt I was ok. One day I went on to upload some new shots and low and behold they went out of business!! I never had any warning. Luckily an awesome company called Winkflash (I recommend them) bought the old files and uploaded them to their site a few months later. I now keep 5 copies (yes 5) of my photos. One on my laptop, one on my external hard drive, one copy on CDs at home, one copy on CDs in storage (in case of fire or something at home) and then the online version. it wont happen to me again.
Many  to you. I cant image losing baby pictures!

Are you sure they're completely gone? I thought I had lost some photos in iPhoto once, but when I looked in the actual photo library (not the one where you see all the rolls, but on the actual hard drive) they were all still there. That's because the ones you see in iPhoto are actually copies. Clear as mud?

The Mac guy just called to say he fixed it (thank goodness!!!) He said I messed it up pretty badly. I told him I could kiss him (I don't think he knew what to say to that!):goodvibes

I'm so glad this worked out for you. Last year my hard drive crashed right before I was scheduled to back it up and I lost a couple of years of pictures.

I'm so glad that you were able to locate your pictures. I lost a set of pictures of our dog when he was a puppy (let me just say our dog is our child we have no children yet). I was crushed. Now I have them on my computer, on CD and then another CD in a fireproof storage box.

I'm so glad you were able to get it fixed and get your pictures back!!
I nearly lost everything last year when the hard drive on our old PC crashed - even our wedding photos! DH was able to salvage most of them and now I back up like crazy. We now have a MAC (with dual boot so I can switch to PC when I want to) and we have time machine backups and I put the most important pictures on CD too. It's so scary!

My dh and I go back and forth on this issue all the time. I think you should at the very least, have prints made of your favorite photos. He kinda gets nuts over this as I take a ton of pictures and somehow they all turn out to be my favorites! lol! I also back them up on disc and on an external hard drive. I feel that it is only a matter of time before one of my methods fails so it is better to be safe than sorry.

Me, too. Been there, done that, still recovering! I now keep copies of my pictures EVERYWHERE just to be safe! Glad this worked out OK for OP! Happy endings are always good!

I make 2 CD copies of all my pictures and store one at my parents house. That way if we have a fire, flood, whatever at least I'll have an electronic copy back up. Hopefully it will work if I need it.
Thank goodness you got the photos back, that would have been horrible.
