I am absolutely POSITIVE I'll be:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: back with more!

I'm gonna start playing with it tomorrow--- and I did see that Michaels has cartridges on sale- I'll check that out tomorrow as well!

Sure cuts a lot and CDS (cricut Design studio) are computer programs that help advance the use of your machine.
SCAL - is primarily for Mac users that don't have the dual processor in it.

CDS - is from Provo Craft but can only be used with PC's.

Basically it can weld letters together, combine images from multiple carts and I'm sure there are other things. I don't have it because I have a Mac.

here is the Cricut website, they have a sub forum under General and it's all about CDS.

let us know if you have anymore questions! And a bunch of us are on the Cricut boards too.

Sure Cuts Alot is a third party software that allows you to be able to cut (and weld & design letters/images) any true type fonts and dingbats using the cricut. It can be used on both MAC and PC

Cricut Design Studio can only be used on a PC and although the software has all the Cricut cartgidges loaded on to it (to weld & design), you can only cut from the cartridges you own.

SO what would be the advantage of using the CDS over the Sure Cuts Alot? It sounds to me like purchasing the latter would be the better deal.

Provo Craft (the makers of cricut) say that using third party software will void your waranty. But of the crafters on the cricut message boards and the ones on the SCAL message boards, I haven't come across anyone who has had any sort of a problem with their Cricut because of SCAL. And everyone wonders how Provo Craft would kow if you used SCAL with ypur cricut if somethoig were to happen. The warenty is only for one year so my bug is ot of waranty anyway.

Also, with SCAL you CANNOT weld etc. with the fonts and shapes on the cartridges. So it's kind of a one or another thing (unless you have both softwear)

I just got my bug too and I am already considering SCAL. Can you weld other true type fonts already on your computer? I downloaded a bunch of fonts a while back and want to be sure I can weld the letters with SCAL.

The program does not come with fonts it just uses the fonts loaded on your computer (whether you downloaded them before you got SCAL or after). So, yes, you will be able to weld with the fonts you downloaded a while back.

Thanks! Have to check the budget and see if I can get SCAL now or have to wait a month . . .

I just bought SCAL and used a coupon code...it saved me a little over $11.00! I don't know how long it's good for, but if someone can use it...go right ahead! The code is: 4401787

Can you please tell me where you used this code?

And one more thing- does SCAL take clipart from your computer and cut it or do you have to design your own clip art?

It doesn't work with clip art, it ONLY cuts true type fonts and dingbats.
