I know they rent canoes at the bike barn, but do they also rent kayaks--and if so what kind? I thought I read that you could not bring your own canoe--is that also true for kayaks? I keep reading about people canoeing and kayaking on the canals. I would love to bring our kayaks if we can. Thanks in advance for any input.

they only rent canoes, they say no personal boats to be used, but I have seen people in the canals in their own canoe. I have not personally ever seen any kayaks tho.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping they had kayaks. My Dh and I aren't too good in a canoe---but we do provide plenty of entertainment for everyone watching.
I had a site on the canal/creek a couple weeks ago and I saw multiple kayaks go past each day. People may not be launching them on Disney property (I'm not sure where the canal goes), but they're definitely using them.

At least for a while, FW was renting kayaks, too. I didn't check last trip, but I do have a picture in my archives of several kayaks on the bank.
Officially, no privately owned watercraft. Do what your conscience allows.
The canals do not go off property. They mainly control drainage from FW into Bay Lake. FW is a reclaimed cypress swamp.

I don't mind renting--its easier than bringing our kayaks with us. We're already loaded to to the max with all the baby stuff for the grand kids. If the bike barn has them, do you have to reserve early?

I can confrim what Ft. Wilderness Guy has stated. There were Kayaks on the bank of little beach in front of the Bike Barn last week, and I saw plenty of folks using them. The canals are the highest and cleanest that I have ever seen them . . . so go for it!

On our last trip, on an early morning bike ride, I saw about a 5 foot gator cruising the canal over by the foot bridge by the 1500 loop. Makes falling in that water take on a whole new meaning.

I have been seen walking on water when I fell into a river with snakes. I think I could probably fly with an alligator.
