This is a journaling and encouragement thread for the Buccaneers Take the West thread on the Cruise Meets board as we thought this would be a better location than our meet thread. Please join in!

My name is Gail and I would love to loose 50 pounds before our October cruise. I need to eat healthier and exercise. I will bet back on the bike tonight and report later.

Thanks, Gail for starting this!! :cool1:
I am Jacquelyn and I have about 20-25 lbs I would love to get rid of. I would like to try my best and get healthier not only for our cruise but forever. I had Open Heart Surgery 30 years ago & I need to stay active and be fit. Unfortunately, since graduating from High School 16 years ago, 20-25 lbs have decided to stick around. :scared:
My goal right now is to exercise more!! I need to get moving. :)
So, I am off to the park with Buddy (my Boston Terrier) while it is still light outside and walk 2.3 miles.
I'll report in later.

Yay Gail! Thanks for starting this thread!

I have been steadily gaining weight since I was 9 years old. I have lost large amounts of weight in the past and always gained it back. I need to lose 150 pounds (maybe 20-30 more) and I want to make a lifestyle change. I need to change the way I eat and get moving. I am also seeing a counselor to help me deal with my relationship with food. Anyway...I went back to Weight Watchers this past week and I am ready to get going!

Let's do this thing! :woohoo:

Thanks Gail:cheer2: I need to lose around 40 pounds. I wanted to do it by my 50th birthday in July, but I don't think that's going to happen. I'll take whatever I can lose. I'm going to walk and eat healthy. I just got back from my 3 mile walk. That's 6 so far, I would like to walk about 15 miles a week. Good luck to everyone, one day at a time. Pam:flower3:

Welcome everyone! We will be each other's support system.

I totally understand the food relationship - I eat when I am sad, angry, bored and happy. My wedding dress was a size 10 and I am now a 22 - would love to just get back to a 12 or 14. I used to smoke but I quit almost 30 years ago so I can't blame that. I have had 3 children (my baby will be 19) so I don't think I can really blame that either but as the saying goes - it ain't been right since!

I was "good" at dinner - salmon and peas but I have to go upstairs and ride the bike - 20 minutes at a steady clip. I wish I could get outside but not only is it raining but it is 41 and that is more than I can stand. Plus, I live in "bear country" and walking here can be sort of scary unless I go back into town. Bike it is for now.

Hope everyone had a healthy day! Enjoy your evening and eat a piece of fruit!

Thank you Gail

Ginger here, I need to take off at least 60 pounds.
I feel like a yo-yo. My weight has been up and down for to long now. I hit an all time high last month of 200 lbs.
I've been walking a little but I'm having a hard time cause my feet hurt so bad and I can't breath. I know it's all the extra weight.
I've been riding my stationary bike.

My starting weight is 200 lbs
My wish is to be at 140 or less for our cruise.

Good luck everyone:hug: . I'm off to ride.

Keep it up Ginger! Also consider going to see a doc about your feet. There may be something that can be done to help you along, like different shoes or inserts.

My progress so for this week? I have not been counting my points so far this week, but I have been eating more fruits and veggies and I actually planned out our meals for the week! I know for past attempts that planning is key for me. Next week, actual point counting!

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming....

Hey, I'm in too. I could lose 60 pounds easy but would be happy losing 20. I have Fribro and if I don't manage my diet I have increased pain. I have to watch the amount of sugar I eat. I practice Chen Style Tai Chi but don't parctice as often as I should so that may be one of my goal to begin to practice Tai Chi at least 3 times each week. I square Dance each week for my cardio.

Good morning everyone! Well, I rode that bike for 20 minutes and 5 miles last night and I survived to tell the tale! My knee has been giving me issues but I don't feel anything different (doesn't hurt more or less this morning) so that is a good thing. We have a treadmill too but I will have to unbury that thing if I am going to walk too.

I ate well this morning but came off without any fruit for snacking on during the day - will have to stop and get something at lunch time for here at the office. I really need to give up the grazing thing I have going on - or graze on healthier items.

Take care all and have a healthy day!

Our Motto is: One Day at a Time!
Try to make healthy chioces today. And also try to move a little more today than you did yesterday.
Going to work is my downfall. I work in a Radiology Office of 16 women. There is always something brought in: cakes, cookies, doughnuts, pizza, candy, etc. My goal for today is to stay busy and stay away from the lounge! :scared: There is always too much temptation there!

It is a new day and an opportunity to make good choices in what I eat. For me today I choose to NOT to eat processed food or sweet food. I also do not drink much but water.

So here is a question, if you are counting calories how many are you allowing? If my memory serves me, if you drop too low it can backfire and cause you not to burn the calories needed to lose. Also if you eat many small meal it is said to keep blood sugars level. I also do not use artificial sweetener. What do the rest of you think about them?

My goal for today is very simple, it is to stay away from the foods that I love but make me feel bad. I hope everybody finds the success you desire in your day today, however that success is definded.

Got to start to get ready for my day. Lois

:cool1: Morning everyone!! Thanks Gail for starting this board!! I need to lose aroun 70lbs total, but would be happy with 40-50 before we cruise. I can't lose more than 1-2 lbs per week due to other health issues. So considering there are about 25 weeks till we cruise - that would be about right.
I'm having surgery on my eye tomorrow and will be laid up for a few days, but will get back with you guys asap to report in.
Everyone think about dancin' on deck in swimsuits with your new, slender body!!!!

Lois - if memory seves me correctly, I think it's 1200 calories. But it also depends on your current weight. But not eating processed foods and sweets is an excellent start and you should start seeing results if you stick to it. I did that when I was pregnant and only gained around 23 lbs - and I was on strict bedrest for 2 months, so I thought I would've ended up putting on a lot more.
Good Luck - keep us posted!!!!:goodvibes

Lois - I think Honeymooner is right. But depending on what you are eating now, you could even eat more like 1400-1500, and work your way down so that you don't feel too hungry at first. As you get smaller your body will need less fuel. GREAT work on your goals! As for artifical sweetners, I do use them with no ill effects. I am sure Not using them would be better for me, but at this point I need every tool available. When we are eating dinner together on the Magic (WHOO HOO!) you will see me spill a lot of Equal into a LOT of iced tea! :rotfl:

I hear you. Lately I have been rather bored at work and having a hard time staying away from snacks and extras I just don't need! One day at a time is right, in fact I am just going to focus on One Meal at a time today. I am going to make my next choice a healthy choice.

Ginger- I was in a car wreck 7 years ago and broke my knee,(long story) it took me 5 months to recover. I've had trouble with me feet ever since then.
I started buying shoes with a rollbar in it and my feet are much better. I can only find them online. New balance are the brand I like the best.

mollygirl13- my SIL is a nurse and she's trying to lose weight for our cruise and she said everyone is always bring food in, that has got to be hard not to eat all the time. She's counting points and has lost 20 pounds so far.

honeymooner2004- hope your eye surgery goes well.

Grandma 4ever- I'm trying to stay in the 1200 range, but I think if you don't eat enough it can cause you not to lose too.

Well I'm off for my walk...... 6 down only 394 to Port Canaveral.:thumbsup2

To be honest I am more concerned about getting and staying healthy. I hope that is OK with everyone. It is all about what I eat and making heathy choices. If I am successful in that I will lose some weight but not being in pain is sooo much more important to me. That is why I try to eat whole foods and take the supplements I take. It sounds like everyone is off to a good start.

The motto "one day at a time" is one I have lived by for many years as I am a recovering addict and alcoholic. I have 20 years clean and sober. I am sure I can make the choices I need to make one day at a time. Thanks for the support, Lois

Two lbs a week is very good. I don't know how the people on the Biggest Loser can lose so much weight in one week. They must excercise their whole waking day and eat nothing. BTW Mark got my vote last night.

O.K. today I rode my bike, played ball with Bonz outside, did 5 loads of laundry which meant I had to walk up and down the stair alot. I just kept busy, busy, busy today. Now I going to get Bonz's and go for a walk. I'll come home and soak my feet afterwards.
Sorry, I should tell you about Bonz. He is my 3 year old, 87 lb albino Doberman. We adopted him last year from a doberman rescue group. He is so sweet I can't believe that someone just wanted to throw him away. It's funny because he came to us very well trained. We feel so lucky.

Hello everyone. Didn't have a great day yesterday but I didn't go to Dairy Queen either (which is an accomplishment for me as I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their choc soft serve). Tonight will be a biking night again and hopefully I can have a better lunch (and the brownies Ben made at home will be gone, not eaten by me).

I have lots of errands to run at lunch today so will grab a salad at some point. Dinner is a big unknown - cooking is a real challenge for me as I am bored with all of it. We have planned lasagna for dinner on Saturday so I will have to be extra good before and after so I can enjoy that.

I also leave Monday for Toronto so a week of eating out is in my future.

Lois - 20 years is HUGE, what an accomplishment. I am proud to know you.

I am *reluctantly* here! I have not started my walking yet, but will dig the treadmill out today. I am in the middle of getting everyone ready for a camping trip, so I probably won't actully get started until Sunday night... just to busy to get to it. I will get in quite a bit of walking while at the camp this weekend, so that helps.

Congrats that everyone is off to such a good start! :woohoo:

On our walk last night my dog and I picked up a couple neighbors. We walked and walked for what seemed like forever.

I had to go grocery shopping this morning (Super Wal-Mart) I walked around in there for over an hour, does that count?

Bought all good food, fresh fruits, veggies and no fat yogurts. I have fish and boneless chicken breast in my freezer. In 2 weeks DH is going Rock Fish fishing, I love that.
I didn't buy any cookies, cakes or ice cream.

Thanks to all concerned about my accident but I was not hurt, just my pride and my car.
My feet hurt cause I've gain so much weight so fast. I did get shoe inserts today, will let you know how they workout.

Have a great evening all.

Hello Fellow Buccs-
Just got back from our 2.3 mile walk. It was a gorgeous spring day here in the Philly Suburbs. Tomorrow will be my downfall-I just know it. :sad1: I will try to be as good as I can. We are having a food festival in the radiology lounge tomorrow and I don't have many patients on my schedule. :scared1: So, I will be in the lounge probably all day long staring at the food. But I will try my bestest and be as good as I possibly can. I already know it will be hard.
Everyone have a great weekend. Be healthy! Chris and I are going to the Jersey Shore for the weekend for his 33rd Birhtday. :yay: We have a home there and it should be a good weekend, weather wise. Will try to go to the Boardwalk and walk as much as we can. Something about walking in the morning looking at the gorgeous ocean, waves and sand is motivation enough!
Be safe and enjoy the weekend!

Got home last night from a nice weekend at the Jersey Shore. It was Dh's birthday yesterday and we were actually able to sit on the beach. :beach: It was quite nice and a reminder of the wonderful things to come!
With going to the shore it does have it's downside, I guess. The Boardwalk! It has so much good food (tasty food, not good for you!) that I couldn't resist! But, we did do alot of walking so that helped a bit, I suppose!
We are going out now for our nightly walk. Have a nice night everyone! :wave2:

I'm joining in, too! I'm Jan and need to lose 20-25 pounds. I, too, have been on the yo-yo scale. I am a lifetime WW member (1988) but haven't reached my goal since. I am thinking of going back to WW again for the upteenth time, but am so glad we are on the buddy system.

Lois - Dave and I used to square dance. It was great cardio exercise. I actually started square dancing in the 60s with a teen club (about 100 of us kids danced every other Sunday). Dave and I danced for about 8 years until we moved to mid-Michigan and don't have the time to devote to weekly or bi-weekly square dancing.

Sweets aren't my worst enemy, but bread is in any shape or form.

Thanks, Gail, for starting this thread.

I lost 2 more lbs by my scales at home, but when I went to the doctors Thursday their scale read something completely different. I guess it's time for a new scale.
I got out my food scale, time to start measuring the food. Got to get serious about this weight loss.
I've been walking, my wind is coming back and my feet don't hurt as much. I'm feeling better all over.
It's been warm here I'm sure that helps alot.
We've started puttting our garden in. It'll be nice to have home grown veggies.

The weather here in the Philly 'burbs is getting better every day! The grass is greener, the flowers are blooming and the birds are singing! That gives me the extra motivation to be outside moving around! I've been walking at our park with Buddy every day. It feels great to be outside!

Hi! I'm back! surgery went well. It's already been 2 weeks!! Where did the time go??! I just got the ok from my surgeon yesterday to start walking again, so I'll be dusting off my treadmill this weekend!! And my mom just got me Hip Hop Abs DVD's so I'll be trying those out. We thought it would be something I could do with my 2 yr old!! I definitely will have to videotape it for a good laugh every now and then!!!!
Congrats Ginger on your weight loss!!! You are doing so well!!!
I'm getting so excited for October!!!! We're booking our flight and hotel next week. We're flying in a day early and spending the night. Still haven't decided on a hotel yet.
Happy weekend!!!!!:cool1: :cool1: :thumbsup2

So glad your surgery went well, don't over do it.

I've been doing alot of yard work, ranking, pulling weed, cleaning it up so I can get my banana tree planted. We do a tropical look every year around our pool area. I've got the neighborhood into it. It been fun sharing and exchanging plants. Most of us have small ponds too, mines been keeping me busy. Got a major algae bloom already.
We're staying at the Radisson the night before. I've read that others we be there also. Won't you join us.

Well off to pull weeds and burn calories. I should have a great tan by the time the cruise rolls around.

I go back to the doctors on Wednesday my goal is to have another 5 lbs gone by then.

I am still trying to exercise everyday. I am doing it but some days are just so hard! I am glad to have Chris who LOVES to excercise so he has been a very strong motivator. We went to the park again today and walked our usual 2.3 miles. :)

Yeah for you guys!! I'm going to attempt to get on the treadmill tonight and I will walk today during my lunch at work. I still am getting a little dizzy, but I'll just take it slow. Spent yesterday afternoon at the zoo with my DH and DD and it is almost all uphill, so it was a good workout!! We are having unseasonably cool weather here in the "Burgh" so can't put anything in the ground yet. Hoping this breaks this weekend. I'm hoping to put in my annuals.
Ginger - I wish I would have seen your post before we booked, but my Mom took it upon herself to book us into the Holiday Inn by the airport for the night before the trip. We have already prepaid for transportation to the port and we wanted to be close to the airport. My best friend is coming with us and her parent's live close to Disney and are going to try to meet up with us for dinner. They travel a lot too and are actually planning a trip for that time period and may already be at the airport to, so it works out.
Planting a banana tree!! That's awesome!! I'm assuming you live somewhere where it's rather warm? With as many bananas as my daughter eats, I could use one of those trees!! I don't know about where you are, but the price of produce in PA is astronomical!!!!

Yahoo! I went to the doctors today and I've lost a total of 8 pounds in 11 days. I'm hoping I can keep this rate up but I know that the first few pounds are water weight. I'll be happy if I can get 15 lbs a month off.

MY FEET STOPPED HURTING:cool1: and I'm not as winded. I'm amazed on what little time it took to start feeling better.

Honeymooner2004, sorry you won't be able to join us at the Radisson.
I live in Maryland, we have a short growing season for the banana trees. Even though they are real their not the kind that produce a fruit that you can eat.

Mollygirl13, 2.3 miles a day is great, keep up the good work.

I was so bad yesterday, crab imperial, fried shrimp, potatoes with butter, a strawberry margarita and a brownie sundae.
I feel it today, bloated and sluggish. Actually, I started feeling it last night, just couldn't sleep.

No more cheat days.:headache: :sad2:

Sometimes we need to cheat to remember how bad it really does feel after. Only because it tastes so good!!! I had been weighing with my tennis shoes on. Weigh with them off the other day and I lost 2 pounds (of couse I realize it was just the shoes) but still felt good.

Got my cruise garb out this past week -end and realized I don't want to lose too much weight as I will need to buy all new stuff. I don't want to spend the money. So I am going to try to keep my weight loss close to 10 pounds over the next few months. Well, maybe 15 since I know I will gain on that boat. Got to plan ahead.

Later, Lois

Lois, I'm happy for you.

Trying to get on my cruising garb is what got me on this weight reducing program. My cruising clothes are one size and I'm like 6 sizes larger.:scared1: Some of my clothes still have the price tags on them. I surely don't want to buy new ones.

Hello everyone. I hope all are well and making their goals. OK so we don't make our goal maybe we need to be happy at just not gaining. I went to a picnic this weekend and had several pieces of cake. Not a good choice but I must be doing something right as when I weighed I was down another 1 1/2 pounds.

As far as not wanting to lose too much so I do not need to buy new cruise clothes. This is not a good thing because if I lost all my excess weight I would lose at least 30 pounds if not 40 but I do not want to get below 180 so I can wear the clothes I have on hand. Maybe for the next vacation I can be at 160 or 150.

Here is some pixie dust for you. pixiedust: Let us know how you do as you work towards reducing the numbers on that scale. Mine are going down just very slowly, very very slowly. Lois

That's great Jacquelyn, keep up the good work.

I went to my doctors yesterday, I had a 6.5 loss. I didn't think I had any, I've been stuck on the same number for 2 weeks. Doctor thinks I'm doing good but I think it's moving too slow. I'll never reach my goal at the rate.
I have to say that my clothes are starting to fit again, I'm very happy about that.

I hope everyone continues with their success.

I'm off to run with my dog, maybe that will move my numbers.

I had a little movement on my scales but I'm not going to post it until my scale is 100% sure. :bitelip:

I have 35 more pound before I hit my before the cruise weight goal. I've lost a total of 30 pound since April.
It's been hard but I'll keep at it until the day we cruise. But not on the cruise, I'm going to enjoy myself. I'll just hate myself when I get home but will get back on track then.
This time I'm going to keep it off. I'm getting to old to keep going up and down.

Sounds like you all are doing very well. Pat yourselves on the back. I haven't weight lately but I know with what I have been eating I don't think I would have lost or gained. Really need to find a way to stay away from the sweets. They continue to be my downfall. Lois
