Does anyone know the reason why, over the last few days, the Virgin flights are leaving so late. Today's flight is not leaving until 6 pm and will only arrive at approx 2.30 am.

Also I am right in saying that Virgin have lifted the restriction on hand baggage. It seems as though you can now take a handbag (or similar) as well as your hand luggage.

Can anyone help??? Thanks

From Virgin website:

HAND BAGGAGE ALLOWANCES
Upper Class

Upper Class passengers may take two pieces of hand baggage onboard. Individual dimensions not to exceed 23 x 36 x 56cm, (approx 9 x 14 x 22 inches) and 17lb/8kg in weight.

Economy and Premium Economy

Economy and Premium Economy passengers may take 1 piece of hand baggage on board. Individual dimensions not to exceed 23 x 36 x 56cm, (approx 9 x 14 x 22 inches) and 13lb/6kg in weight.

ADDITIONAL CABIN ITEMS PERMITTED
In addition to the cabin baggage allowance, the following personal items may be carried on board:

A handbag, pocketbook or purse i.e. which is appropriate to normal travelling dress and is not being used as a container for the transportation of articles which could otherwise be regarded as baggage.
An overcoat or wrap.
An umbrella (pointed or/and sharp prohibited) or walking stick.
A small camera and/or pair of binoculars.
A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight.
Infants food for consumption in flight.
A small amount of duty free goods.

Thanks for your reply. I read that article on the Virgin website but previously it had stated that passengers flying with Virgin from Gatwick were only allowed one piece of hand luggage (handbags had to be placed inside this piece of luggage). That is no longer on the Virgin website so I can only assume that you can now take your handbag separately.

Yep, unfortunately Terri, it's true. Today's flights have not even left Gatwick yet and apparently there have been long delays for the last 3 days (a knock-on effect from some bad weather on Sunday supposedly)

I am keeping my fingers crossed that they catch up by Thursday :goodvibes

The Government recently lifted the restrictions on one piece of hand luggage through security at Gatwick and so the airlines can now relax their restrictions.

As far as the delays go VS027 has been dire for quite a while now but looking at flightstats.com and flightaware.com it looks like it left at 2:15pm today rather than still being on the ground at 5:00. :confused3

I'm hoping they catch up by tomorrow morning!!!!
I noticed that this morning's 10.25 from Manchester didn't leave until 1.45 this afternoon.

They are adding an extra plane tomorrow to catch up on the delays.

The virgin fleet is streached to the limit at the moment, one plane in south aferica had its rood ripped off in an accident and it stranded there for 3 weeks, the poor passengeres were also stuck there for 4 days!
