I was thinking of putting together either a new exchange that we have never done before, or a fun one that we had done in the past that we haven't done in awhile, that no one is picking up. Any ideas?

*I will be having the Christmas in July Present Exchange, with sign ups at the ending of May, and shipping in June, so that we will all have our presents for our opening party on July 1st :santa: for those of you who were asking, and wondering :).
Come on, let's hear those ideas :listen: .

I'm kind of new to exchanges, so it's possible that you guys have done this stuff already but:

How about travel size stuff? Stuff you need when you're making a trip.

On the sweet treats exchange, we keep talking about a packaged cookie exchange.

Missy, have you seen the current Vacation in a Box Exchange? I would think that the travel sized items could be part of that exchange. If you are interested, try checking it out :).

Packaged cookie exchange, sounds yummy. popcorn::

How about favorite Disney character?? DH and I are just new to this (we have only done 3) and we thought that would be fun.:thumbsup2

Or a t-shirt exchange?...great way for people to maybe get a Disneyland or WDW shirt without having to visit.:yay:

Postcard Exchange (you can send different Postcards from your area so that we can see a different part of the country):3dglasses

Stuffed Animal/Stuffed Disney character exchange

Regional guidebooks or local favorites (what makes your area special? is there something that makes your area standout?)

Well, that is about all I can think of right now. If anymore come to mind, I will be sure to mention them.

I never thought that I would have so much fun doing this!!:cool1: I just love getting things and sending things in the mail. Right now I am trying to decide to sign up for the other two exchanges. (I am already signed up for the vacation one) DH wants to sign up for the kitchen one but we will see.popcorn::

Happy exchanges everyone! Thanks for helping make our day just a little bit brighter.

Another newbie hooked :) :rotfl: exchanges are addicting.

As for the exchanges that you have mentioned, there has been a tshirt, and postcard one before. I think the tshirt one comes up from time to time. As for the stuffed animal one, I know that it was mentioned before, but not sure if there has been one.
I have never heard of the regional guidebook or local favorite one, so that is interesting. We do have the regional food exchange so that exchangers are able to taste things from each others state or country.
Come, and join us for the other two current exchanges :).

The tee shirt is usually an annual one.

There is a regional one coming in May for non-food (and food items).

I also think a favorite disney character would be a fun exchange:banana: How about a keychain exchange or a magnet exchange

Meriweather
04-09-2008, 08:48 PM
We've done keychain and magnets many times.
But, always doable again.

If your favorite Disney character is Pooh or one of his friends, that exchange is taking sign-ups now.
And Mickey will be in June ;)

This would be a lot of fun! I live near the beach and there are tons of magnets and keychains in ALL the stores.

I would LOVE this exchange and Chloe would too. When I get a people exchange she has to check each thing out so she would love it if everything was hers! Might be hard to bring toys into the house without handing them over though.:rotfl:

I also love the postcard exchange. I have seen SOOOO many postcards around here that are either pretty or funny. Especially since I live near a beach in FL.

My DH wants me to limit my exchanges but how can I with so many neat ones!:scared1:

That seemed to come up a lot when people were chatting on the Sweet Treat sign ups. Everyone said how much they liked cookies and those snack cakes, like Twinkies, Zingers, Little Debbies, etc.

That sounds good to me too, since I like cookies even more then candy! LOL

Its been a long time, but we did do a packaged cookie exchange before.
I remember!! I participated in that one. :thumbsup2

What about a Bath and Body exchange? I think I've seen those before but are you still doing them?

Or a Relaxation exchange which could include items like massage oils, candles, soft music, flavored teas, basically anything that you would use to help you relax or destress. :confused3 (sorry, I have four kids, I am always looking for ways to relax!! LOL)

Hey, I don't have kids but I can still use something to relax, so I can totally see where a mom of 4 would need it!

I love the idea of a Bath & Body exchange. There are so many wonderful scented bath products out there. And Avon is wonderful, and they have great sales.

The Bath and Body one is usually done in June and January for their semi-annual sale. DisneyCP2002 usually runs that one. We need to check with her and see if she is planning to do it this June.

I have had a "pamper me" exchange on my list for quite a while....just have never gotten to it

I just had a great thought got a couple of exchanges!! Now I know the weather might not be up for this but I had to write them down...

***A tea party--send a package of tea and some tea type things (ie a tea ball strainer or maybe tea cakes) Could be iced tea for the summer

***Cocoa exchange- again during summer not so much but you never know!

***A "mini" exchange- what can you send that is travel sized?

***Disney movie exchange---Pick 3 top Disney movies (animated or live action) and work exchange around them

***Recipe card exchange--you take the list of exchangers and give everyone their names (or just 10 if you have many exchangers) and we just send 1 or 2 4x6 recipe cards in a letter and then we have recipes from all over.popcorn::

Ok, there are some of my ideas....just trying to help:hippie:

I LOVE THESE THINGS!!!

p.s. LOVE the "pamper" idea!:cloud9:

I have a few ideas,
How about a kids only exchange for example:

High school musical exchange
Hannah Montana exchange
baseball or any other sport (items or cards related to that sport)
swim party exchange (anything that goes with the pool or beach)
art and crafts
children books (name top 5 favorites to choose from)

for anyone:

summer picnic/cook-out exchange (anything that goes with a picnic)
gardening
magazine exchange (name top 5 favorites to choose from)
scrapbooking exchange

I also liked the idea of the recipe card exchange. I know we are doing the Regional cookbook now but, I had thought about writing up some recipe cards of my favorite recipes. But, I didn't get to it :guilty:

I like the outdoor/picnic idea....especially with moving to a new state where we can eat out more :sunny:

We do recipes in Oct. ....every year. :teeth:
We had a tea one last year, maybe it will happen again. It was a lot of fun ::yes::

I will get the "pamper" idea on my list....stay tuned, it will happen, just not sure when. It might be a good one for after the holidays.

Those sound like fun. I am going to host the summer exchange, and you can always add those types of things into your exchange.
Or, if you say that one of the activities that you like to do during the summer is going on a picnic, maybe your pal will send you things pertaining to that :).

That's what I was thinking too. Summer activities include picnics and travel, so you could send those under that category. :thumbsup2

After the wedding would be good b/c I am hoping to have my mother in laws scrapbook of her grand children caught up by that point. I need to get hopping. I have been procrastinating it and I don't know why its turning out beautifully. I go through phases and I guess the wedding is kind of taking me out of my phase, but I hope to get back into it soon b/c my best friend just had her baby weds and I am making her one too and want to start it. So hopefully after my wedding i'll have both those caught up and then I can ask for wedding related stuff. Hehe. I have like three more after those two plus the wedding and honeymoon scrapbooks I'm going to be busy from here to infinity. :rotfl2:

How about an Unused Item exchange?
The item being exchanged has to be new, unused, mint condition, however you want to word it.
But it is something you bought or were given and will never use and it just collects dust or is tucked away.
Kind of like the regifting exchange, but not necesarily anything you were gifted.

Another idea -- I always like going with a theme of something going on in WDW. (I'm funny that way. ;) :rotfl: )
Right now is the Flower & Garden Festival. I am sure we have a F& G theme. But might be nice to do now too. Maybe even a Flower & Garden pin exchange theme! They do not need to be pins from F&G. Just that theme.
Then Star Wars Weekend is in June. I don't know anything about SW. But that would be a fun theme too. Love the SWW pins. :lmao: :thumbsup2

I love the idea of a Star Wars exchange. I am a SW freak. Someday I will get to WDW during SWW.

I know I'm spoiled. I work across the street from the main post office in NYC. In fact, I can see it from the window in my office. So I just run across the street to get boxes, etc. And they have 4 self service machines, I go over there at 10 AM. No lines, I'm in & out in 5 minutes.

Yeah, it is a pain hey? What gets me is when I only want to buy some stamps and I have to wait in line for like 20 mins and there are some people in the line who have multiple things to do... like pay their electricity bill or phone bill or some other bill plus something that has to be mailed or even just to buy a stamp. That is soooo annoying... but it's the way things are and there is no quick service line or fast pass (I wish), it's all in together this fine weather.:upsidedow

I have an idea for a new exchange, but it may not work.

You know how you have unbirthday and stuff... what about a birthday twin exchange, where there are two people sharing the same birthday or even just in the same month. That could be fun.. but I'm guessing it will get knocked on the head as you do so many other gifting ones.

Just a thought for whatever it's worth.

Maybe we could take a poll to see who has birthdays on which month, for those people who are really interested in this type of exchange.
My birthday is in Dec.

Twin Birthday Exchange-If you are interested in joining us in a exchange to exchange presents with someone who has the same month birthday as you, copy, and paste this thread so that we can keep this going to see who would like to join us, and when your birthday is. If there is enough interest, this exchange may be put together.

Or we could go with an astrological matched exchanged. I don't know astrology, so don't know who I match well with -- other than another Gemini. :hippie:

Flat Rate boxes and USPS.com are your greatest friends, if you print out the postage online and your package is under 70 pounds you can drop it in any mailbox as long as it will fit, our post office has just added parcel drop boxes, of course we also have the automated machines which I like better as the postage comes out as a sticker so I do not need to tape it on.

You can order the flat rate boxes on USPS.com for free and most of them will fit in the standard blue boxes that are at almost every shopping cnter or on every few street corners. They also all fit in the parcel drop boxes or the large drop boxes at the post office, just a heads up.

Our post offices do not handdle utility bills (unless you are mailing the payment in an envelope, then you just need a stamp and drop it in the box) also you can buy stamps and most other items online at usps.com and not have to stand in line, they will be delivered right to your house.

Ok I am posting both mine and my wife's. For those that aren't sure what this is (I had to dig through the thread a little bit myself to figure it out) this is to see if there would be interest in a birthday twin exchange, where you would exchange with someone who's birthday is in the same month as yours. If you are interested copy the list add you Dis name to the appropriate month and keep it going.

I don't think we know this one is happening or who is hosting or when it will be at this point.
Me joining, depends on a few things ;)

Oh sorry they do have those, but I didn't know that you could put boxes in them. I thought that they were only for letters.

cmwade77

You can, there are a few requirements of course:

No stamps (buying the postage online and taping the label that you printout is ok as long as the package is under 70 lbs.)
The package fits through the slots, the front usually has a place for letters, if you go around to the back there is usually a door that you can pull down to put packages in.
Nothing hazardous

Also you need to either know the weight or be using a flat rate box in order to purchase the correct postage online.

The box will have a sticker on it if there are additional restrictions. I have shipped things numerous times this way and only had a problem once (the post office didn't like the way I used a flat rate envelope, it apparently had too much of a bump)
