I realize that this might be asking for the impossible, but I was wondering if anybody had a good program that might help me restore an old photo.
Unfortunately I have very few photos of my family when I was young, and since my mom passed away some years ago, I am left with only some very poor quality photos of her (and us).
So I was wondering if I posted one of the photos I have, if somebody might take a whack at trying to clean it up as much as possible. I have done the best I can with it using Photo Explosion, but I don't think this program was designed for this kind of task, so let me post the original photo (taken about 34 years ago), as well as my best effort to clean it up.
If you think you can do something with this photo, I would really appreciate it.

Just some quick editing - Auto Levels in Photoshop, then a run through Noiseware, then some cropping (to reduce the really light areas around the edges), more auto levels and some burning in certain areas. I also used the healing brush in a few areas.

I'm sure someone else can do a much better job, too. Just wait till tomorrow. :)

Wow, that's a whole lot better than anything I was coming up with. Thank you. I hope others also take a shot at it, to see what else we can come up with.

I am certainly no expert, but here is my try, I did it in color, and then converted to B&W.

Thanks everyone, there are some really nice cleaned up shots here, better than I was hoping for. Anyone else want to give it a try?
