As the rules seem to be very strict these days, we have done the following.
We hare ordered 5 cartons of SMA to pick up at Manchester Airport Boots for the flight.
We are packing quite a few packets of SMA powder in the cases for baby food while away.
But the question, can we pack tinned baby food in the cases?
Any help appreciated.

Hi, I have been to Florida a few times with 2 children and my youngest who is now 17 months was there at 4 months, 11 months and 16 months. I have taken a couple of tins of macaroni in my suitacase as well as hipp organic baby food and so long as this does not contain beef, pork or lamb appears to be okay.
I normally do not tick on the forms that I am bringing food in, but had strawberries in my hand luggage in September last year (Sanford Airport)which weren't eaten on the flight and the sniffer dog sniffed these out. Strawberries are one of the few fruits you are allowed, however they marked our form and our bags required to go through the scanner, picking up the tins and jars of baby food. Our suitcases were opened however as these were desserts and savoury containing chicken, I had no problems.
We were also there in February / March this year and although our suitcases weren't opened, I again had baby food and macaroni.
Hope this helps

I took jars of baby food and formula in our checked luggage about 18 months ago without any problems. Don't think I declared it as they are looking for fresh meat / vegetable / fruit etc not sealed processed food.

according to the regulations you're required to declare all food, whether permissable or not.
They then ask you what it is and either wave you through or not.
But if you don't declare, and you are carrying something, even if it is allowed, they have the right to throw the book at you...
they probably won't, but they could...
so it's best to declare all food and not take the chance...

I expect this is a dumb question :rolleyes1 - but I have finally got DS7mths to eat a couple of dried (mix with warm water) packet foods as I thought they would be the easiest to carry - but one of them is shepherds pie made with lamb. Will this be ok???:confused3

Would have thought that the dried food wouldn't be a problem and anyway they wouldn't be able to tell what was in it, if you just took the packet of sealed food and not the cardboard packet in your case. They are looking for fresh meats, cheeses and fruit etc. I remember taking dried cheesy pasta for my oldest when he was about 6/7 months the first time we went to Florida as we were staying in the Holiday Inn and were not hiring a car so didn't know how easy it would be to buy food for a baby.

I thought i'd just let you know my experience as it may help you.
I have a 10 month old and took in my hand luggage a few Hipp jars. At Manchester the woman on security wouldn't let me take them through even though I said I'd taste them (i've done this on several flights before). So I had to but a couple from a very imited selection when I got through.
Was very annoyed when the mum sat next to me on the plane was allowed her much larger jars through-obviously depend on who you get...how ridiculous:headache:
Anyway, in my hold luggage I had loads of jars and SMA cartons. I didn't declare it on the form but when we went thorugh the bit where you have to give the form in I just said I had some sealed jars of baby food and the lady said thats absolutely fine. I think it's just fresh produce that they are bothered about and not anything that is pasteurised.
Hope that helps!
Also I found the selection of baby food pretty boring out there but my baby ate it fine, and cold most day!! Poor baby:rolleyes1
Have a lovely holiday!

I have taken jars of Hipp food in my checked luggage for DD before. I declared it on the customs form so they asked me what I had in my luggage, they asked for it to be put through the second scanner and then just waved me on.

On the way home I had 3 x SMA Cartons, empty sterilised bottles and about 6 jars of food. I put them all in a tray and sent them through the x-ray machine and they didn't bat an eyelid. I was expecting them to make me taste it, in which case I was going to decant it into the bottles but they didn't.
I also took with me the sachets of sma gold which were brilliant and I had some spare of those in my hand luggae in case of emergency! You'll be fine :yay:
I so jealous :sad1:

I have some SMA sachets that I will save for way back.
Have your ordered your cartons from Boots at the airport?

Just a question - is your baby used to the ready made SMA? It's years since I used it, and the formula may well have changed, but DD was happy with the powdered milk made up but found the cartons too rich and would be sick on them. It may be wise to get your little one used to the difference before you fly.

Same as, my son has been the powdered milk and the carton milk. Generally when we couldn't be bothered going through all the sterilisation of bottles.
