What is that arched structure?
I would think that is the lobby. I could be wrong.
I notice what i think are railings on the roof. Does anyone think that there will be observation areas on the roof?

What is that arched structure? That is for the huge arch over the lobby. I couldn't find a larger image even though I know there are some floating around the web somewhere but there are smaller ones in the official press release: http://www.wdwnews.com/ViewPressRelease.aspx?PressReleaseID=105796
ETA: Here is one from allearsnet. I think the railings that AKV707 mentioned are the supports for the decorations that are used around the roof line that also appear in this artist's rendering: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/aklv11.jpg

What is that arched structure?
The tubular steel structure is the framing for the lobby of Kindani Village.

I notice what i think are railings on the roof. Does anyone think that there will be observation areas on the roof?
Probably just temporary railings to prevent construction crews working up top from accidentally falling/ walking off the roof top.

I noticed in the first photo there is a large opening that spans 2 floors. I bet this is a Grand Villa. It is at the end of the building which is where the GV's are. Also I do know that the GV in Kidani will have a 2 floor window similar to the SSR Grand Villas.

It sure ain't going to look like the concept art! But that is nothing new for Disney! If I was a member I wouldn't be to happy about that. they show you awsome pictures of the resort so you buy into it ,then when they start to build it looks nothing like the pictures!
Thanks!

So it looks like the new villas are going to have "private" balconies, with dividers like the AKL rooms. I think that would be a nice change from the regular DVC balconies, which are just "out there" and open. :thumbsup2

From the lookout spot:
http://web.mac.com/erin.w/iWeb/Site/Kidani%20September_files/DSCF0136.jpg
The thatched roof was complete by the time we left, and I believe the painting of the buildings to the side of the "arch" was completed.

View from our concierge level room (I don't know why I didn't take more pictures? )
http://web.mac.com/erin.w/iWeb/Site/Kidani%20September_files/DSCF0236.jpg
And a secret spy photo, as we walked to our 5th floor room each day, they had the door open to the "suite." I can't remember the name, but we watched from walking-by as they brought new furniture in each day. Really nice dark wood floors as well! They looked darker than the floors in the picture I took.

Can't wait to see how everything has progressed when we go back in February, as it looks like things are moving quickly. At night time, looking over to Kidani, you could often see lights on, as if there was some work going on.

The third picture from the top (the first from Jambo House)-- where is that in the building plan? Those top floor balconies are to die for!!That is a Jambo House Grand Villa. There are six GVs in Jambo House located at the end of each side of the horseshoe and at the end of each of the "spurs" on the outside of the horseshoe. They are in the area marked in orange in the drawing below. There is a 360-degree tour of a Jambo GV here (http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/guest/resorts/virtual360/virtual360Landing?id=DAKV360Page). The other tours (Studio, 1BR, 2BR) are for the Kidani rooms but the GV tour is the Jambo House GV.

Hi All - Just back from an 8 day stay at AKV. I took some Kidani pics one morning before heading to the parks. Sorry - no pics of the pool area, just some from Jambo looking across the Sunset Savanna.

I haven't looked at any plans lately but my guess is that it would be the elevator lobby for each floor. You could have irregular windows in such an area.

Interesting...When I first saw them the first thing that came to my mind were stair wells because of the shape of the silos. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Stairwells were my guess too. The windows would provide yet another view of the savanna/animals. Then again, who knows what little surprises the Imagineers will come up with next.

It looks so awesome. I can't wait to go. It doesn't seem as long of a walk as I thought or people said. The reason the walk is so long is because you have to go all the way around the savanna. The photo showing the far end of the Kidani building that also shows part of Jambo House was probably taken from emergency exit stairs at the very end of the Kudu Trail. To get from the place where the photo was taken to the part of Kidani that is shown in the photo you would have to walk all the way down the Kudu Trail to the lobby, exit Jambo House via the main entrance, turn right and walk along the front of the building, go past the entrance to the delivery area, walk along the lower "horn" of Kidani, go inside the main entrance and then walk down the corridor of the upper "horn" to the end of the building.
I marked the route in yellow on this drawing of Jambo House and Kidani. On the public DVC website, Disney states that the distance between the main entrances is nearly 1/2 mile so this route looks to be at least 3/4 of a mile!
ETA: I assume there will be a way in and out of the Kidani building by the pool area so you could shorten the walk a bit by bypassing the lobby and continuing to walk straight to the pool area and entering the building there.

It is actually both. The window area is the elevator area for 2 elevators (too small to really call it a lobby) but also inside the 'silo' are inclosed stairwell as well. Looks like a service elevator as well hidden in a room.

I think the red is to represent a mud hut in Africa but it is just to much red.

Sorry everyone, posted the earlier ones as thumbnail size.
These are actually the back of Kidani not the front. This was our view from our room across the Savannah.

Those pictures were taken last Friday, January 2. We went from December 25 to January 4. I took more pictures but just busy at work and haven't loaded them all. We actually took 360 photopass pictures on this last trip. I'll try to get more up later. We actually have done a trip report if anyone is interested but it has no pictures yet either.

joech, I forgot you guys were still there when we were there. We were at AKV from 1/1-1/4. The picture you took with the fisheye lens of the savanna, with Kidani in the distance; we were on the 5th floor just above the pen in the right of your picture, right beside the outside stairwell, rooms 5269 and 5271.
Have been really busy since returning home but will try to soon post some pics and a trip report.

Ok...just a couple pics. I was chased away by a little security cart....he scolded me and told me "photos are not to be taken before a resort is open to the public". News to me..........:rotfl: Sorry...no pics of the pool. I think I'd have to dodge major security to get those........the security guy who came after me must have seen me on a camera somewhere....because he was nowhere in sight when I pulled up. He came out of nowhere.
Here's all I got.....it's not much.......Feb 9 :

Only the ones you can hide, I guess, because there sure are a lot of BLT photos out there.

I would have thought the sign would say it's a Disney Vacation Club property or something. It just says Animal Kingdom Lodge / Kindani Village...nothing about it being DVC. :confused3

Call me picky, but I don't like that the first thing you see right behind the entrance marquee is the big unthemed back wall of the resort, with rows of unthemed windows. I hope that's not the final look. :sad2:

I see what you mean....a little generic and not very "African" themed. Hopefully they will tweek this a bit.
