I want to take a trip to a dvc resort that is not my home resort. The trip is 9.5 months away. I know I can't book on points until 7 months- but if there are cash discount rooms available right now- will they allow me to book now on cash with a discount even though it isn't my home?
Another related question- if there is no cash discount available- and I go ahead and book full price- should I check in wit MS periodically to see if any discounts have become available- or will they do that automatically?

So if you want a cash discount, it doesn't hurt to call back periodically to see if one has become available.

Yes, you can make cash reservations 11 months ahead at any DVC resort - but the discount may not be available at that time.
You can make a ful price reservation asking for the discount and MS will automatically modify the reservation to include the discount if it becomes available. I have done this on a number of occasions and have always been pleasantly surprised to discover that the discount came thru.
