Hi -

This is our first time cruising and I have a question on how cabin upgrades work. I am booked in connecting cat 10 cabins and by some stroke of luck I was able to get 5022/5024 thru DVC on part points, part cash only last week for Aug 4. I was obviously very happy with these cabins ... I found out the scoop on these "secret porthole" cabins right here on these awesome boards !

So here's my question ... since we are in a cat 10, could we possibly get bumped up to a 9 or 8 since these are considered a better catagory ...but perhaps be relocated to deck 1 or 2 ?? Do you all think deck 5 in these cabins is a much better location than the cat 8 or 9's on deck 1 or 2 that we would not want to be upgraded...unless it is to a cat 6 or 5 ? Do you have the option to not be upgraded at all ? I am new to this and am not sure how this works. Also, is it less likely that we will be upgraded at all since we are in connecting cabins ?

I appreciate any insight you might be able to give me !

My opinion is that you are less likely to be upgraded since you have connecting rooms.

My advice would be to call DCL or have your TA call them and make a notation on your reservations that you would not like to be upgraded unless it was to a cat 6 or above, with connecting rooms. I did that on my last cruise and I wasn't upgraded, but that doesn't say that much since it's a small percentage, if any, that get complimentary upgrades in the first place. I think it's better to have your preferences about it known in case it is a possibility.
