Hi All:wave2: April is Autism Awareness Month.Today ( 4/2/08 )is the very first national Autism Awareness Day. I know A lot of us that have family members or friends affected by this disorder will be looking for designs.I thought it might be a good idea to post these designs on one thread for this month. Of course the designers should post their names or a link to their thread. So please Dis Signers, if you have any t-shirt, candy bar wrappers, Id cards etc. please help us out. Help us bring awareness to ASD. 1 in 150 children are now affected by this disorder THANKS SOOOO MUCH

My dd has Asperger's and I would love a cute design with that, since most of the designs that I saw say just Autism. Thank you so much!!

Tracy,

I can do these. Do you want them to simply say "My brother/son has autism" or do you want any other wording?

Kari, Thanks so much for posting.I hope you are enjoying your spring break. You posted one of Amy's old designs last week of Mickey with the puzzle pieces. DS loved it. So I was up last night ironing it on to a shirt for him to wear today. Thank you both. If you have any more autism designs with Mickey, Buzz or Lion King please post them. Ds needes one for every Friday this month. :thumbsup2 By the way thanks for what you have posted so far

Would be happy to do this. I have a nephew with autism. Do you have any particular wording you would like to see. This would really help me if I knew what parents would like to see wording wise...

I think that the design I posted last week turned out not to be Amy's so perhaps it was Pat's. I will find it and post it here along with the other Autism ones that I have done.

I wish I had saved some of the ones Amy had done. They were so great. Perhaps others will post what they have saved here.

Mcraft17 when you bailed me out and made the HM envelope for me I did not realize we had something else in common. It is a small world. Do you have anymore candy wrappers made. Maybe with the ASD ribbion? I saw the Stitch one you did on the boards. It doesn't have to say Autism. I think as long as the ribbion is on it it would cover the entire spectrum. Thanks

It really is a small world. When my dd was diagnosed last year I didn't really know anyone with Autism, but recently I have met more and more people. Which is sad in a way but nice to meet others who are going through the same things.

I wasn't sure if you wanted a Disney one (Stitch) or just Autism so I did both. If there is something you would like on it let me know.

I am going to print these too.
I have used the autism ribbon with the mickey ears ( a mini one) on the sleeves of all the shirts I have printed so far.
Have done about 20 since last night. This is so much fun and ds with ASD loves helping!
Something fun we can do together.
Kari I took some of your designs and put them on the DISabilities site, I hope you dont mind, they were so brilliant i just wanted others to see them.

WOW! THAT IS GREAT Thank you. Thank you to all of you for supporting us autistics!
Rumbly- Could you make one that reads "I LOVE MY AUTISTIC WIFE"
I am proud of who I am and not ashamed of my autism. Being autistic IS an EVERY DAY struggle this is true, but we do have clear thoughts in our brains, often it is really really hard to get them out. I LOVE LOVE LOVE DISNEY. I feel Walt is a man of acceptance, and that Disney helps the "ice breaking" to make it more easy for some of us to be proud of who we are.
Disney and Autism Awareness Just as blend-able and chocolate and peanut butter!

I must say, as an autistic this support from the disney community is all very wonderful and appreciated, but not all of us affected by autism are minors. I see many of these posts relating to younger ones, some of us who are not so "younger" struggle just as much and have for a longer period of time yet there seems to be less awareness for young adults, not so young adults and teens. I do love all the discovery of autism awareness, I just hope that the ACCEPTANCE of ALL with autism extends to OUTSIDE, the "younger" demographic.

When I started this thread it is was and still is for all people affected by ASD.I don't think anyone tried to leave out anyone with autism. Most of the people including myself have asked for designs for our children. They just happen to be younger children. But this thread is ment for anyone who has ASD or is affected by it in some way.All of our children will live long lives (God willing) and they will grow to be teenagers and then adults still affected by ASD.
Kari was wonderful enough to make a Mickey shirt that says " I love someone with autism". That shirt can be for anyone that has a son with ASD. My son is 9 now but I will still wear the shirt when he is 59.I will make a new shirt of course.:lmao:
So Kari this is just a suggestion for a teenager or adult shirt. How about H.S. Musical cast with the saying "We're all in this together". Maybe with puzzle pieces.

Kari, my son has Aspergers syndrome disorder which is in the Autism spectrum. Can you do this one with Goofy, and use the word Aspergers in lieu of Autism. I'm so glad this thread is here to make people aware of how Autism/Aspergers has grown and affected so many children. As always, a sincere thanks for all you do!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

When you have time one day could you make one that says

I'M AUTISTIC, try not to judge me. With mickey puzzle ears and FIGMENT?
one with goofy one with stitch?

I LOVE THESE!!!!!! I can't begin to tell you how limited autistic merchandise is, how limited Aspies merchandise is. Most of the stuff that is available out there is from cafe press but there is NO SUCH THING as supportive disney merchandise mentioning autism or aspies. This stuff is really great. If disney themselves came up with a line of shirts I'm sure it would make lots of money. Sure would be nice if they would, and then maybe put the proceeds to Autism Spectrum Research. THANK YOU AGAIN AND AGAIN. You really are good at this! Once I learn how to share my pics and images I'm gonna post some fun disney stuff to share with you all too. Just got to learn how, and THAT, might take a while.... Is there anyone else on the forums who IS AUTISTIC, am I the only one. I see families with loved ones, or relatives with loved ones, but am I the only autistic here?

Hello. Thank you for being so welcoming and accepting. I get very very very very very very very nervous and anxious on this "forum" things, so I don't belong to any one but this one. I tend to not know what to say or if I'm saying ANYTHING that makes any sense at all, to anyone, I tend to not know if what I say is inappropriate or rude, or insulting or hurtful. So I tend to not say ANYTHING AT ALL, because all these building fears bottle up words to express my thoughts and or feelings, so thank you. I'll be walking in the walk for autism walk this month. My team name is paonessacanzoneri and I hope to be wearing a disney shirt to the walk. That's why I asked your friend to make me some that say, I'm autistic try not to judge me. I hate judgers. People who don't understand or get frustrated with me easily because my brain doesn't work they way theirs does or like theirs does, bothers me and sends me into long time silence.

Thank you for saying "hello" to me and welcoming me to this website.

P.S. NO ONE is "too old" to wear ANYTHING disney related in my opinion.

Of course I will work on the "Try not to judge me" design for you. It will probably be tomorrow afternoon or the next day. I will try to find a good Figment to use. Figment is kind of hard to find! Do you want me to put the team name or the name of your walk on the shirt too?

Thank you Kari and Figmentgoofy. I always wear Tink shirts, when I can because she is my favorite.:lmao: Every year my son has used Mickey on his banner and team shirt.I have to learn how to post pictures but I will describe his last year shirt. We used the Sorrcer Mickey holding the Crystal ball. Inside the ball I put a picture of our team members from the year before. The shirts we wore said "Matthew's Dream Team" I hope that gives you some ideas.

I will tell you the samething I tell my son. Don't worry about your brain working different. It is what makes you unique and special. It's a gift to all of us. So post away. We enjoy hearing from you.:thumbsup2

Do you want me to put the team name or the name of your walk on the shirt too?

Oh, thank you for the offer and your creative thinking but no. I want to proudly wear it as often as I can, not just on the walk. Having a diagnosis does wonders for someone who has been called WEIRD, CRAZY, STRANGE, STUPID, RETARDED, SLOW, and my favorite, she's just not TRYING hard enough" She can "over come this thing if she is more motivated too". With my diagnosis and the world FINALLY being introduced to the words Aspies and Autism, I plan on wearing this shirt, EVERY TIME I know I'm going somewhere that I am exposed to being judged, and having anxiety and or crippling fear. So thank you but you don't have to write our team name or the name of the walk, I rather it just tell people I'm autistic and that judging people, can be painful, but with autistics NO MATTER WHAT, judging IS PAINFUL EXTREMELY PAINFUL and WILL leave scars.

I live and breathe Disney. Hey.... ME TOO!

THANK YOU! I LIKE YOU TINKERBELL PIXIE, YOU'RE NICE, AND FROM NEW YORK. I was born there, raised in the city before my parents moved me out here. My grandma lives in Mamaroneck. ALL of my family lived or lives in new york still, somewhere, some of my family lived their their whole lives before passing away. But I have ALWAYS been told I'm a "new yorker". Because they would hear some gruffness or firm, or a kind of bluntness in me. TRUE some of it is because of my back east roots, HOWEVER some of it if not all as I get older, is the autism. But since there was nothing such as autism or aspies all through my growing up, I would play up that it was/is because I'm from back east that makes me so "forward"... truthfully, from what I know of my diagnosis, my so called "forward" behavior, is because I'm autistic hee hee, they didn't know and I didn't tell em... giggle giggle
course on the flip side autism "didn't exist" for my brain it feels like which came first the chicken or the egg...

Figmentgoofy it is encouraging to talk to you. Most of my family is in the south. We live here in New York because my Ds is in one of the top schools for autism. I look at his progress and say we would stay here forever if he can continue to bloom like he is.
I put my ds in a social skills class because of his choice of words. The boy always tells the truth and I am sorry to say it is not the best thing.:lmao: Dh says all New Yorkers are forward so I should leave him alone.I guess that New York edge will put you guys at the head of the class.:goodvibes

hi figment goofy,
have you tried the disabilities thread? there are lots of people over there with asd in the family.
my ds 8 has a recent diagnosis and we are very proud of him.
like tinker/pixies son he is obsessed by soccer, and we are v proud of him.
kari, your designs just keep getting better...
how about a tink one with "we tink you should be patient, we have a special child" could then be used for any SEN child?
thanks

Yea. It's weird like that. The 2 (autism) and being from (back east) get very well tangled together, like necklace chains. Sometimes one can't tell if "that kind" of behavior is because one is from back east or because of "something else" many people to this day can't wrap their brains around "something called autism" or how I hear it from many who know nothing "that autistic thing" the idea that there is a diagnosis for some behaviors is very easily dismissed or denied. That it doesn't exist. Or that someone is "making things up so they can get away with it." Its amazing how closed minded people can be sometimes. I simply said I was from Back East and what ever inappropriate words came out of my mouth, sometimes I got lucky and the receiver to what I was saying thought I was funny, and sometimes, NOPE. What ever I said that was inappropriate or rude or hurtful or whatever, and my brain doesn't track those kinds of things, if and when what I said wasn't received well, I was BANISHED.
MANY people took what I said in the wrong context, HOWEVER, I don't speak, what we call "nero-typical" and a receiver doesn't speak "autistic". The way I HEAR the world is though I MUST learn to speak 3 languages which is hard to do. But EVERY TIME I open my mouth what I say has to be translated. If its as though I live in Italy, but only speak German and Russian. It is THAT FAR apart and THAT different of a language.

You know what, and this is a totally autistic thing. I haven't tried the disabilities thread. I have NEVER POSTED, ever before. This is my first board posting web site let alone page.
I only came here because my hubby saw RUMBLYTUMBLY's pictures. It was just at the time that I was complaining that there was no such thing as autism awareness DISNEY shirts out there in the market world. Thank you for the suggestion to that thread, but I will most likely not go. I am too afraid. I am comfy here, and will probably only be on this thread for a while, MY VERSION OF A WHILE, which means MONTHS, if not the rest of this year. Thank you but no. I won't go. I don't know what goes on in there I don't know what they talk about I don't want to come off as rude or a "know it all". Nope I am steering VERY CLEAR of that thread. I like it here. Rumbly and TinkPix have made me feel safe and welcome here, so this is where I'll be staying.:upsidedow

Hello all, Just wanted to share this site with you. http://www.geocities.com/richardg_uk/famousac.html
We showed this to our son, so that he can realize that just because he has Aspergers, he is not alone. There are plenty of famous people on this list including Bill Gates and Michael Jackson. I'm sure the kids that teased Bill Gates in school wish they were a little nicer to him.

I just watched Lilo & Stitch AGAIN. BOTH LiLo AND Stitch ARE AUTISTIC.
-Biting
-Destruction
-Not Belonging
-Inappropriate Behavior
-Anxiety Attacks
-Fighting with everyone
-Strong Sensitive Connections with Toys
-Sadness
-Confusion
-Screams
-Loud Noises
-Inappropriate reactions to situational struggles.
-The Constant Feeling of Being Lost
-Seen as Crazy, Weird, Strange, Different
-The Reoccurring Question Of "What's Wrong With You?!"
-Being addressed with the sentence of "Why Can't you Just...." (fill in the blank)

There is NO WAY, speaking from an autistic perspective that LILO & STITCH are not autistic.

i do understand totally, and i did not mean to offend you or put you under pressure.
i would say that everyone on that site is also very kind, and you could lurk and not post like i do.
my dh says i have autisitc tendancies, and i do on certain levels, so i understand ds more easily, what stresses him, better than dh. ds "problem" areas in every day life, the need for everything to be perfect, organised logical etc are a watered down version of my own needs.
i do not admit this very often so do not shoot me down in flames, i have never had a diagnosis and at 34 its fairly unlikely that i will, my new obsession with our disney holiday, and it is an obsession, is helping remove stress from other areas in my life, mainly work (i teach design and technology (food) in high school.
