Please tell me what cruise dates have been unable to dock at Castaway Cay. My son and I LOVE CASTAWAY CAY and would be very sad to not enjoy it. We have been on two cruises-- Feb 2001 and Dec 2001 and on both we had beautiful sunny days on the island. We are going Aug 29th and fear that we might not be as lucky this time. My son who is 4 says "A Disney cruise is better than Santa Clause"

Knowing previous dates that the ship was unable to dock due to weather factors is unlikely to be much use to you in prediciting future events. In fact, you'd probably have better luck by calling Miss Cleo.
My impression has been that it's not very common for the ship to be unable to dock at Castaway Cay and on days where it couldn't dock, you wouldn't have wanted to go ashore anyway.
Now, aug/sept are right smack-dab in the middle of hurricane season, so yes, you are much more likely to be dealing with some sort of tropical weather issue - but even then, it's simply impossible to predict this far in advance. While the science of weather has improved signficantly, sometimes even making predictions 24 hours in advance still carry uncertainty.

We were on the Magic, Oct 27,2002 sailing and were unable to dock due to high winds from a storm coming in. That was our 4th Disney cruise and the only time so far. We'll be going again Oct 26, this year to try again.:bounce:

When we were on the Magic in November, there was a moment when we were concerned about being able to dock at CC. Happened that I saw the captain at diiner the night before and I asked him the probability of getting to CC. He indicated that they are able to dock at CC 95% of the time. Their concern is not high seas, but rather a strong wind coming in a particular direction, from the northwest I believe, as that will "push" the ship towards the dock.
Good luck with your trip !

The ship's slip at Castaway Cay is very close to a major deep-water channel in that part of the Abacos islands, so the direction and speed of the current can also factor into their decision... not only the decision of whether to dock, but also their decision of whether to pull in or back in.

Hey CindyandBrice!
Tarasmom says that your chances of docking at Castaway Cay are increased greatly when you make sure you get together with Tara and her mom before you go!!!!!

We were on the 11/10 cruise, and we weren't able to dock. I still haven't gotten "over" it...too disappointing.
