DDA Chapter 6
This thread is a continuation of the DDA Trouble Free Zone and DDA Chapter 5.

DDA originally stood for Disney Design Addicts as most of the posters were addicted to making t-shirt designs. Those designers are still here and many many more people have joined our friendly community. We think that DDA still fits whether you be a Disney Design Addict, Dear Disney Addict, Disney Dream-aholics, Disney Dream Addicts or whatever other acronymn you'd like to throw in there.

Welcome to all the returning posters and welcome to any newcomers that might like to chat about design and all things Disney.

Copied from Deb because she worded it so well.

I need to go start dinner.

So should I just let it go? Next year we decided we are switching to a different soccer club, there is just too much drama here!

I agree with the advice so far. As a former coach and participant of various competitive sports (and a sister of someone currently competing, although I'm not sure where that gets me ;)), everyone else is unfortunately right on. It will always be drama, I've found that to be even more true with the community-type leagues, however sad that may be. I'm sorry you're stuck with such a frustrating team already! :flower3:

Ahhhhhhhhhh... I can safely go to work knowing I am real! :goodvibes

Not all kidney stones can be taken care of by laser blasting. It all depends on where they are located, and what they are made of.

There are 2 kinds of kidney stones: uric acid, and calcium. One kind (don't remember which) can be prevented by a medication. Unfortunately, the kind I get are not the preventable kind. Wish I could remember what kind I have.

I think something like 80-90% are calcium build-up and are only "preventable" (and even then, just questionably so!) by staying hydrated, etc. Uric Acid stones are usually caused by gout, chemo, etc and can be prevented with medication. On occasion, you can get stones from infection or a few other substances building up, which are almost all treatable (but not necessarily preventable). It's too bad that the most common ones can't really be prevented! :(

Gary & I went furniture shopping(well just looking today). I am so excited though! I found the living room furniture I want & the dining room table I want :cool1: Best of all, Gary agrees :thumbsup2

Hopefully within the next 4 - 6 weeks I will have it!

How exciting!

Didn't mean to imply that I had all 18 this weekend. Nope. They have come over the years. My last one was a couple of months ago. Sorry I didn't communicate too well!

:rotfl: I chuckled when I read some of the sympathetic responses, then I was just praying that I was right and you didn't really have them all currently. How terrible would that be?! :faint:

No problem posting on Chapter 5. We figure people will need to catch up and will need some room. I continue to read the old chapter while reading the new chapter for a day or two.

That's right! Mine are calcium based. I try to stay hydrated, but no matter how much I drink, it seems like I still get them. It runs in my family, too. My grandmother had them, my mother had them, and all my siblings have had them, too. In fact, my brother was deer hunting and got hit with his first stone. He was in too much pain to drive off the mountain, so he got on his cell phone to let his wife know what was going on. Unfortunately for him, he had decided to go hunting while she miscarried their first baby. She wasn't too sympathetic for him! Don't blame her!

Could you imagine having 18 in one weekend???? I think I'd prefer death!

I've only had kidney infections, which are painful but I don't think as painful as stones from what I've heard! Either way, I think I agree with your preference!

I think the "hydration" solution is highly overrated, and might not work at all! I'm not supposed to say that as a nurse, but I'm also not supposed to knock prenatal care as much as I do, but that doesn't stop me

Cassidy is going to one of the first home games for a.....wait for it......

a MATH class:lmao:That sounds fun!

Bernadette the top is so cute as well as Emma! I cannot wait to meet her(and you too!) :goodvibes
Thanks! Me too! Last night when we were doing our countdown calendars Emma said "ONLY 1 DAY UNTIL DISNEY...I won't get to tell my teachers I'm going to be gone." So I had to tell her only more day in March. She took the new pretty well.

Love this picture Bernadette!
Thanks! Doesn't that dog (Barbara) look so content?

Vicky love the new sigMe too!

I promise to try to catch up tomorrow. But I had to share my exciting news. I just got the email confirming we scored tickets to the Disney Channel Games Concert on our last night with the Jonas Bros and the Cheetah Girls. The kids are going to flip out when I tell them while we're at Disney. What a surprise! How COOL!!!!

The shirt is cute. I was going to suggest adding a ruffle to the bottom, but I don't think you could since the bottom becomes the back Thanks! A ruffle would work if I had put it on before I sewed it all up but Emma isn't exactly a ruffle kind of gal. It was so easy to make-much easier than taking it all apart would be. I called around today and found a repair shop to get my machine cleaned. I think I'll do that before I make a new top. A friend at work told me the JoAnn's a bit farther away from me is bigger so I may try that one.

It's been a very long day. We had hoped to sand the ceiling/walls today, but the durabond was still not dry (it isn't looking hopeful for tomorrow either). We decided to switch plans completely and put down some flooring. We had to start in the hall in front of our room because we needed to connect to our flooring. Hunter's room is next to ours so out came ALL of his furniture. We managed to get the entire room floored and I have all the baseboard trim cut and painted. Tomorrow Dad will help me install the baseboards and we can reload the room. This time for good. We also painted the ceiling, but I need to do a bit of touch up where my Dad painted. He seemed to miss some big spots. So we started at 9 AM and I finally put my paintbrush down at 11:30 PM. We really accomplished a lot and I feel good about that. We also got haircuts, well actually I got a perm. I'm trying to grow it out a bit so I needed the perm to get me through the ackward phase. How exhausting! It is going to look awesome when you're all done!

The older two are out the door, but the little guy decided on toast and eggs for breakfast. Maybe I won't get those couple of minutes right now after all.

I have a few errands (including grocery shopping) for after preschool today, and I have to pick up Miles and Laura early for an orthodontist appointment. Miles has to go, because I will be there after his school dismissal and have no one to watch him today. The appointment is actually only for Laura. Then there is pick up from track practice, synchro, and regular swim tonight. Long story short, maybe tomorrow, DDA! :) I'll see how quickly I can get the shopping done today, and I might be able to sneak in a few minutes. :thumbsup2

Take care, everyone! Have a great day! :goodvibes

Beth
Hi Beth! I see you know I'm real.;) Doesn't sound like you're slowing down any.

I did! It took 27 minutes but I got every single thing we wanted. And, within a 5 minute window, at the times we wanted! Congrats!

Great idea. Emma is such a doll.

Our weekend was long.

We're supposed to have storms today with possible tornadoes, and the a/c at work is still out, so with the humididity and temp (already 75, going up to 80) it's going to be a long day.
Thanks! You exhaust me too! Stay safe! It's still cold here.

I love the way our bathroom looks now!

That looks awesome!

5 hours down, one hour to go.

Being around her does make me appreciate my own children more though. Hope the last hour wasn't too bad!

So I really think that my frustration with Emma's soccer coach has hit an all time high. How frustrating!!! I don't see how you could do anything that would make it any better so I think you'll have to let it go. I am so grateful that our program is SO different. The kids only go on Saturdays and they are separted by gender and age not skills into several teams. They practice for 1 1/4 hour and then play another team of their age/gender for 1 1/4 hour. We get frustrated that it takes all day Saturday as they are all at field for 2 1/2 hours all 3 at different times. I guess we have NOTHING to be frustrated about. Poor Emma(and you and Eric)!

I had read on a couple of sites that sometimes they get the patient to drink alot of water then jump up and down to unlodge the stone. I don't think you could ever catch me doing that!! :rotfl:

My youngest brother has had several stones, his are calcium based. Most of the time they would put him in the ER, give him strong drugs and then run an IV until he passed it, a few times they had to go and get it. He suffered with this until he went to a doctor that told him he wasn't getting enough calcium so his body was over compensating, he started making sure he got plenty of calcium and knock on wood he hasn't had one since and that has been a few years now.

DS is a disaster if we try to push him from rope drop through fireworks. I did book all of our dinners (except the big DDA one) for 6:30 - 7 PM so we have more time to get back out after our break. The year we went with the Uncles our dinners were all early so we had to turn around and go back after only about an hour at the hotel. DS was always so groggy he was a snarly mess, and then he always fell asleep on the bus coming back at night and had to be dragged back to the room.

Sally-I LOVE your quilted Disney jacket!!!!

Jennifer-Even thought I just made my August ADR's I wouldn't wait too long to decide-especially Norway. I think Chef Mickey's is popular too.

Debbie-I LOVED doing the Illuminations Cruise as did DH and Dorinda but even though Emma was only 3 she still remembers the smoke.

Janet-I got my Disney package paperwork today!   I agree with the being ready to go except packing. Last night I dreamnt Mary K, Dorinda, Ralph and our friend Kathie (went to WDW with me in May 06 & Dec 06) were in Norway and I couldn't pack my bags. I very nearly missed the ferry I was taking home with Mary K. The others were smart enough to fly home. I was exhausted when I woke up.:upsidedow

Well, I just finished dinner. It was a strange night.

During my final private lesson at 8:30, my HS student kept looking over my shoulder out the windows toward his Mom's car. I finally asked what was going on and he said he was a little worried about his Mom since that guy had been talking to her for about 15 minutes. I suggested that he call her on his cell phone and see if she was OK. She did not answer. So I called her and also received no answer. They guy was acting very oddly but finally left and then the Mom moved her car. I locked Nick in the studio to see if she was OK. Turns out she was calling 911! This guy, who lives over one of the cafe's downtown was planning to commit suicide. I went back into the studio and got Nick and sent him home with his Mom. I figured they had her cell phone number if they needed to contact her again. After 15 minutes of waiting for anyone at all to come, I decided to come on home. There was no one else around and I was concerned for my own welfare. I am hoping someone came and helped this poor man.

more info, Theresa:

A music industry degree program is a course of study within a college or university directed toward the specific goal of preparing students to work in this market. While more traditional degrees offer preparation for teaching or performing, music industry degree programs offer coursework that provides ample preparation for those that love this subject and want a career in the business end of the discipline. Some of the program options for those interested are the business, recording technology, or a program that is a combination of the two. The usual degree that is offered is a Bachelor of Music or a Bachelor of Science.

This training will combine musically-based business courses with regular business administration courses. The industry is unique, and some of the practices employed in the field are unique as well. Some of the careers available to music industry degree program business graduates are musical instrument sales, instrument manufacturing, publishing and printing, instrument repair, and recording including electronics. For students of music industry degree programs interested in the recording technology aspect, the career path could include recording engineer, audio-video post-production engineer, record production, editing, and studio management.

Glynis -- That sounds horrible! I'm so sorry you have them. PD that you don't have another one.

Thank you all for the comments on the bathroom!

It looks great -- I love the color and the rug looks great with it. I'm glad you posted pics so we could see your boys -- I don't think I've seen pics of them in a while. They are too cute!

When I walked in the house tonight, Kristin called. She had been fitted for her cap and gown and hood and was ordering her graduation announcements. Now, I know that I have been very proud of both my daughters' academic accomplishments, but sometimes I wonder about their common sense. She will follow in her sister's footsteps and graduate Magna Cum Laude. But she didn't think it was important enough to put on the announcements. Luckily she had not hit the "SUBMIT" button to place her order! They will now say:

The storms in the area missed us last night, but got close enough that both soccer practices were called, but not Andrew's baseball practice. Tonight is opening season for rec ball, and Andrew has a game if it wasn't rained out from the rain we received over the night. Jake's first game isn't until Friday night.

I'm hoping our a/c gets fixed today. Have a great day everyone! :)

I have to admit, we have a very nice yard. Our house is on 5 acres. The barn you see in the back was our horse barn. She died of old age a couple of years ago. Her pasture is actually behind the barn.

The evergreen trees you see in the first picture were planted by Chuck & I when we first moved here. We own as much yard behind those as what you see in the backyard.

So I really think that my frustration with Emma's soccer coach has hit an all time high. Yesterday's game was a horrible experience all around.

Emma's team lost , which honestly, was not at all because they didn't play hard. Emma's team is part of a county wide system. Each soccer club has it's own divisions-1, 2 and 3. Div. 1 are the girls who are great competitive players, Div. 2 the next level down and Div. 3 is more the girls who are playing for fun. When we first got team assignments Emma was Division 3. However, in the spring there are only a handful of clubs that do soccer. So there are only 2 divisions county wide. That means that all the girls on Emma's team are Division 3 material playing against girls that are at a higher skill level. I fully believe that it is the club's responsibility to have mixed up the Division 2 and 3 girls so that the overall teams would be better matched. They didn't and we didn't find out we were Division 2 until 2 weeks after practices started. I think we have a long road ahead of us. What really infuriates me is that I think that the girls are at an age where confidence in any and all aspect of their lives is very important. If they are continually at a disadvantage it will not do them well in their confidence levels.

Then there is the whole coach issue- The girls have 2 jerseys, white and blue. In the clinic seasons the teams had reversible shirts, blue and yellow. Blue was home and yellow was away. We were not at our home field so Emma left here in her white shirt. Well we guessed wrong! When we got to the field and realized we were wrong, Eric went to the coach and let her know. Her snarky response was "that we were to have brought both shirts. Eric was at practice on Wednesday night and heard no mention of this. It was not in her email that she sent out! She lacks communication skills to say the least. Eric ended up taking off his shirt and giving it to Emma to play otherwise she would have sat on the side the entire game.

Then at the end of the game as snack was being passed out she very clearly and loudly was speaking to another mom about how it was very rude of me to assign everyone a date and so on and so forth. I sent her an email after the confusion last week and apologized. I mentioned to her that the way I handled snack was the way it had been handled on Emma's teams in the past. I can't see why it was needed for her to bring it up at the game. What more does she want from me? :confused3 I want to email her but at the same time I am feardul that if I send her something that it will make it a rough season for Emma. I told her in my last email that I would not be team mom but she seemed to ignore that fact as she sent out one with her snack list and to contact me if anyone was interested in filling the last 2 available dates.

So should I just let it go? Next year we decided we are switching to a different soccer club, there is just too much drama here!

I think I'd look for a new team this year. It seems that the season is just starting and I could not deal with that. I know that I couldn't bite my tongue through an entire season. It wouldn't be fun for me or the kids.

Gary & I went furniture shopping(well just looking today). I am so excited though! I found the living room furniture I want & the dining room table I want :cool1: Best of all, Gary agrees :thumbsup2

Hopefully within the next 4 - 6 weeks I will have it!

That's great. I'm glad you are having such success with your remodeling :thumbsup2

Our house was a Wausau home - panelized construction which means the walls were built in a factory and they were put together on site. The house was closed in and water proof in one day. The inside still needed to be completed. Chuck did the plumbing. I did the wiring. I did the insulation. Chuck & I did about 50 percent of the drywall. It got to be too much for him since he was also working full time so we had someone finish the drywall. I was between jobs at the time. We also had someone do the flooring & painting.

We built our breezeway and garage a few years later. We built the barn. Chuck & my dad put in the fence posts for the horse. Chuck & I put in the fence. We have slowly been finishing the basement ourselves as well.

Sounds familiar. Our house is a modular home. The whole thing was built in a factory and came to us on 4 tractor trailer trucks. They put it together in one day and we did all the button up ourselves. We did the roof, siding, plumbing, drywall, painting,...well you get the point. We did have a friend do the electrical as he is a master electrician and it made since for him to do it. We also had the furnace installed and the heating connected. We also built Chris's shop from the ground up. Now it seems that we are doing much of it again :rotfl2:

I managed to get Hunter's room together yesterday. It took me the better part of the day and I was nearly late for work. Lots of little touch up and finishing things that took longer than I expected. I still need to paint his door and closet doors, but I bought a paint gun and don't want to load it until I have all the doors ready to paint. Hopefully later this week. Right now none of us have doors on our rooms.

If I get a chance later I will post some pictures, but I need to get ready to bring Colby to school. I am doing laundry today and will grocery shop while Colby is at school since we have NO food in the house.

My next goal is to have Nick's room (which I haven't started yet) completed by next Monday night. Sounds easy except we are out of town for the State Bowling tournament this weekend.

We planned on a modular but with the pitch of the roof we wanted that wasn't possible. Our roof hangs out over our front porch so it is taller than a regular house roof. Because Chuck was working and we were living in a motel until the house was finished, we had the contractor do all the outside work. We did it all for our breezeway and garage and could have done the house.

We are now trying to decide/agree on wall colors for the kitchen, living room, & dining room

We still have white walls in our living, dining room & kitchen. It is basically one big room with a cathedral ceiling. We have never been able to choose a color so it stays white. I really, really want to get it painted this year. I need a light color because of my seasonal affective disorder (not enough light in the winter). The white walls help with that but I'm tired of them.

Deb - Sounds like things are really coming along. Good luck with the next steps.

Karen - Cute puppies! Hope you get the one you're hoping for.

Elin - What a scary thing last night. I hope that everything turned out okay.

Okay, I will tell you about my Illuminations cruise with Stephanie.

It was when we went to WDW for my first real time and stayed at POFQ for the 9 days in 2005. Two of my sisters joined us for 5 days. We all were celebrating our birthdays since they all ended in the number 8. My actual birthday did happen while we were there. We spent months planning and getting ready. Since I had only done a few day trips in the years prior, I really was excited to be there for that long of a time.

Every day was jammed packed with things to do. Stephanie told everyone that it was my birthday. I wore my birthday pin everyday. However, by the 6th day, I told her to stop the birthday wishes. I was getting filled to the brim with birthday cake.!!!!:lmao: We were on the dining plan. :rotfl: :lmao:

The day that we were at Epcot, we were scheduled to eat at Le Cellier. We were seated with not much delay, but it seemed that our server took a really long time with everything. Stephanie was getting very anxious and I could not figure why. We hurried out of the restaurant and she turned into a demon woman making calls on her cell phone and walking up and down looking for some boat slip where we were supposed to go. All this time, I am not sure what is going on and my stomach is telling me that I had better slow down. My one sister is trying to help Stephanie read the map and I am with my other sister, hoping the battery on her wheelchair does not die on her. :rotfl:
(I have what some people call IBS or as my DR calls it--the dumping syndrome) If I know ahead of time, I can take some medicine that I have, slip a pill under my tongue and hope things will delay for a while or not happen at all.

We get to a boat, (a very small one) and get on. My stomach is still rolling and churning and all I can think is ---there is definately no bathroom on this boat. We set off and to this day I cannot remember what we all saw because I was just not feeling that well. We get to where we were to watch Illuminations, which ended up to being under a bridge. Perfect place to watch. No falling debris. I am sitting in the back, sipping on water, maybe even some 7-up or ginger ale. I cannot remember. I am trying to smile but cannot, because all I can think is where do I go if I have to?????

I am looking around and am seriously thinking that if I have to, I will jump over the side and do it right there :lmao: that was how bad I was feeling at the time. I did not have any of the cake. No telling when that would decide to turn on me. After Illuminations was over, the pilot of the boat took us to the dock outside of the Hollywood studios. Everyone was saying their goodbys but I was in a dead run looking for the bathroom. Needless to say, I just made it.

That was the first real time that Stephanie had seen me like this so until it happened, she had no idea what I was going thru. I was in tears, and feeling so bad cause she had planned this surprise for me and I could not enjoy it. She still says she should have just took the money and put a match to it.:lmao: We can laugh about this now, but it was not much fun while it was happening.

Actually I would love to do another cruise but hopefully I can if and when I can get my kids down there.

On that note too, I'm trying to decide whether or not to recommend a character meal to our friends. This is their first WDW trip ever. The girls are 12 and 14 or 15. I think I will suggest one for the experience. What do you all think and which one should I go for? They may only have 4-5 in the parks though I'm going to talk to them about maybe making it more depending on what their reasoning was.

My girls loved the character meals but as Cassidy said last night...she does act about 3 when it comes to Disney. :lovestruc It's a great way to see the characters,if that's what they want to do, without waiting in line.

I think out of the 2 we did...we all liked LTT a lot better.

Opening Day isn't until today...silly;) yesterday was just practice:lmao:

There are a lot of returning players which is a good thing for us because the Rockies were obviously just hitting their stride at the end of the season. What I love is everybody outside of CO thinks we will be bottom dwellers again.

So that's what it was. ;) Guess we'll see what happens today. The talk around here isn't good about your pitcher for today, but I don't know him myself. Who knows though as it is local radio. I think you stand to have a pretty good season if the end of last says anything.

Vicki - your pictures are beautiful. But I would be on my way to Florida on foot, if necessary, if I woke to that on April 1! I am just getting too old, I guess...

Tia - I am probably in the minority here, or my 2 girls are. they HATE character meals. Hopefully I made that clear. :lmao: If you all remember, they did not eat at Cape May with us in October. The characters (and I don't mean the DDA bunch) were the reason. I would check with the teens going to see what their feelings are about the characters.

Katrina feels the same way about the characters but we just put her some place so that the characters can't get to her. That is why I suggested the princess one. She doesn't mind them. She loves the food from the characters meals which is why she puts up with them. :lmao:

I was a total bonehead today. I brought Colby to school at the regular time only to find that we were the only ones there. The teachers were there, but no kids. The head teacher came out and gently reminded me that today was open house day from 12 - 1 PM so I was 1/2 hour early. He was really nice and let Colby stay then. He thought it would be good for the high school kids to have a little break in time with only on kid :goodvibes So I headed off grocery shopping feeling really stupid. :headache: While I was out Chris called to tell me that Toyota's incentived are out for April and the Truck he wants has a 0% apr for 60 months. That is EXACTLY the deal we were hoping for, but that just puts more pressure on to get the house done and the loan papers signed before the deal ends. He also needs to sell his current truck.

Once home I get 1/2 a message from the school and I all could make out was bus incident this morning that had been dealt with without any injuries :confused3 So I call the school to find out the whole deal. Turns out a student on my kids bus was found with a weapon. Now I don't know what kind of weapon or how they dealt with it as they wouldn't give me that info. The lady at the school stressed that it had been taken care of. My next question was what's to stop it from happening again to which I get the "well that's the world we live in" comment. That isn't acceptable and I think I may be further questioning it.

Janet - Yay for documents!!

I guess I need to figure out what I am going to do about August airfare for DH. All along we had been saying he could come home on a different flight than DS and me, but now that's not a good idea. If there is any sort of emergency with my mom then I could potentially be leaving WDW by myself, which would mean DH and DS would HAVE to be on the same flight to go home. I mentioned to DH this morning that we might have to consider cutting some days off of the trip, but he doesn't want to think about that right now. I don't want to do that because we would miss getting to see most of the DDAers, but I also don't want to be paying hundreds of dollars to change plane tickets. Crud. I guess I'll see what my mom finds out tomorrow and try to make some more decisions then.

How scary!

Hooray that he's finally seen the light. There's nothing worse than having your husband belittle what you are going through. Alan used to do that when I taught. Then, he was a substitute for me for a couple of weeks, and became a much more sympathetic husband after that!

I really want a bag that is easy to open up for security (so not lots of zipper pockets that you can't see through). I also want a messenger bag that I can wear over my shoulder. I've stopped wearing my fanny pack. I don't like it in the photopass pictures and you know how I like my photopass pictures. The bag I took in March worked out ok. However it was heavy and I didn't like the size. And it was boring black!

The small backpacks I have seen lately have pictures on them, and none of them are pictures that I like! :rotfl: Hopefully that 9 West one will work.

We really enjoyed our first P&PP. We enjoyed the beginning of our 2nd P&PP until it started to rain and kept on raining! :lmao: We really enjoyed dressing up the 2nd time.

The first one included chocolate as the treasure. Yummy! The second party only has cheap party favors like fake "jewels' and mardi gras necklaces. Now, saying that if my kids were still young, they would have loved that!

We went straight the to Jack Sparrow line the 2nd time. We only waited about 15 minutes. I really enjoy the meet & greet with him!

There is a cool show with Aladdin and the Royal Guard. It is a lot of fun. The fireworks are some of the most awesome that I've seent at Disney. I love it.

There were so few people there that we walked right on lots & lots of the rides that usually have long lines.

Those are the things I remember. Unlike the MNSSHP & MVMCP, we probably wouldn't go again.

DS was 11 when we went to P&PP last summer. He didn't LOVE it, but it was OK. The only characters we did were Mickey & Donald - they were together. That line went for DAYS. Other than that we just did rides, the second parade, and the fireworks. Fireworks were AMAZING, and there were NO crowds. I have mentioned before that I went to get ice cream on Main St. like 10 minutes before the fireworks started and there was NOBODY in the shop! :scared1: We sat on the curb in the hub to watch.

We didn't see any of the special shows, we didn't see Captain Jack, but we did go on rides. And the chocolate made it nice. I would be hard pressed to find the "value" in going again, but it was OK to do it once. If it was scheduled on a BUNCH of nights during my trip I would probably go again, otherwise I would skip it.

Vicki - I've heard good things about the Overland Equipment Donner Bag. They come in a variety of colors, have a couple of compartments but not too many), and are supposed to carry a LOT. I just ordered one over the weekend from Shoebuy.com. I've seen it both on eBags, Shoebuy, and Zappos - I found a 20% off for Shoebuy that was good this weekend, so I went that route. No tax, free shipping, as well as free return shipping and exchanges.

I bought that Holly color from Shoebuy.

I hear that there are a couple of different versions of the Donner - I believe Zappos has the older version (more pics): http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/25324505/c/94032.html

Here are the pics of the newer version on eBags: http://www.ebags.com/overland_equipment/donner_shoulder_bag/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=109695

I'm so impressed! We wouldn't even paint our own house! :rotfl:

The kids did say that he stabbed the back of the seat in front of him several times and there were kids in the seat, but he wasnt' trying to stab throught the seat :confused3 I ended up walking in and talking to the principal about how my phone call had left me with questions and a very poor response about future protection. He was very nice and assured me that the lady on the phone would be spoken to and given some better phone skills. I feel much better now.

I'm so glad you went and said something to the principal. Regardless of how "serious" the situation, the first response you got was unacceptable!

for those who have done it....is the pirate and princess party really worth doing?

remember kids are 13, 10, 9

a brief summary would be appreciated as well

My guys are 7,8, & 12. We went to the P&PP last August & we all liked it alot. Unfortunately it POURED for all but the last 1/2 hour we were there so the parade & fireworks were delayed until almost 11pm & many characters were not out. Also there were no dance parties or the Alladin thing. They cancelled the Mickey show in front of the castle due to lightening.

We did get to see Capt'n Jack & the line was not bad. We rode some rides with very short lines as well like Peter Pan, Pooh, Philharmagic, Buzz, Space Mountain, Splash, & Dumbo. We got chocolates & necklaces which the kids like hunting for. They also had a stand in tommorowland that had carnival games like dunk the pirate in the water by hitting the target with a baseball. My kids loved this. The fireworks were as good as MNSSHP.

We had dinner with Cindy at CRT which was nice to do before the party.

Due to the very bad weather we didn't get to do much but we did have fun. I would say go at least once. I would love to go this summer (If they have the parties which looks unlikely at this point) just so we could have a do-over.

Here are some pictures...

Katrina feels the same way about the characters but we just put her some place so that the characters can't get to her. That is why I suggested the princess one. She doesn't mind them. She loves the food from the characters meals which is why she puts up with them. :lmao:

That's what I'm afraid of as Rachel tells me that Mandy (the 12yo who is one of her BFs) doesn't like the Easter Bunny. I think that I'll just mention that they are available and ask if they're interested. Thanks Vicki and Elin!

I was looking at the buxton messenger bag that I've seen advertised on TV. It looks like it holds a ton of stuff in a compact space, but it is leather and would be so hot in Florida in the summer

I've been looking at that one too. If you ever decide to get it, let me know what you think.

Theresa - I forgot to post earlier that I totally agree with Elin's suggestion of major to check out. My senior year in college, my school added a music business program and I took a few classes. It was started at our school by a man who has spent much of the last few decades managing the Oak Ridge Boys. The stuff I learned in his couple of classes was great and we had some really nice opportunities available along the way too. I would highly recommend Cassie check out some schools with that option and I'll bet she'll find a way to work with musicals.

Deb I am glad you found out what type of weapon(even though any type of weapon is not good!) & that you were able to speak with the principle. What a scary situation

Anne Marie love the P&PP pictures!

Vicki I have & use a Overland Donner bag, I love it! I used it for the 1st time for the trip in Oct. & I never switched back to my regular purse :rotfl: The only problem I had was the strap, but Deb took care of that for me :goodvibes She made me a Velcro pad for the strap over my shoulder.

Lindsay I would love the link for 20% off. I have been wanting to get another one in a neutral color beings I use mine all the time.

Riley is about the same with characters as your ds. He does not really care to wait in line for them anymore. Now Garrett on the other hand still seems to enjoy them. He also goes for the autographs when we see someone different.

Man, I totally hate April's Fools Day now! The morning show I listen to totally got me and a good portion of the listeners today. The two main guys were on alone and the story was that the station had laid off the 3 "extra" people yesterday afternoon. The DJ was totally convincing in his anger at the matter and the callers were so upset. I guess the head guy at that station got 500 calls and emails by 8:30 and called down asking them to cut the joke short as it was messing up his workday. I just logged onto the site to check on something and saw the HAHA announcement as I missed it this morning since I only get to listen here and there. I can't believe it! They totally got me and I was not happy about it. Darned holiday! :rotfl:

I need to vent! First of all: THIS IS NOT AN APRIL FOOL'S JOKE!

My mother in law has decided to get married......AGAIN! This will be husband number 6. She met him online, last month. They've chatted online, and this weekend she went to meet him. After 20 minutes together he proposed and she accepted. Normally, I would not let this bother me, but this is how she met her last 4 husbands, and they never worked out. She divorces them after about a year at most. There was one that only lasted 9 weeks!!! I know that it's her life, and I shouldn't really care, but she drags my kids into it. She makes them call these men "grandpa," but doesn't explain anything when all of a sudden they're not there anymore. I just can't put them through that again.

I told Alan that if she goes through with this, then we will not be seeing her again, until she has proven that this one will last longer than a year. I feel badly about that, but Alan agrees with me, that it's not good for the kids. In reality, it's not good for her, either. Her therapists have told her not to get involved in any relationships at this point. She just doesn't get it. She's positive that no matter what, her children will bail her out like they always do.

Thanks for listening! Just had to get it off my chest before I explode in front of the kids!

Thanks, Janet! I hope you don't have to cut your trip short! :guilty: But I hear you on the flights. If we come home on the 13th instead of the 17th DS and I can still go on miles and DH can buy a ticket for around $100, all of us on the same flight. On the 17th we HAVE to book DH on our same flight, which today would cost $238. :sad2:

Everyone - please don't let me forget to buy my tickets for Memorial weekend tonight. The hold drops off at midnight and the prices have already gone up from yesterday. So when I am on later ask me if I bought them yet!

You guys don't know how much it means to me to have your support! This woman has wreaked havoc on our lives for so long!!!

Alan is the only biological son from her second husband. When we were going through our infertility problems, she took Alan aside, and told him that he needed to divorce me. That he "owed" it to his father to give him a grandchild of his own blood. Alan was so angry! He didn't speak to his mother for several months after that.

The big problem is that she was abused as a child, and subsequently, she never matured mentally past the age of 16. She acts and reacts just like a teenager! It's very frustrating for her children who are now having to "mother" their mother. At least most of us are on the same page. There are 2 children, though, who are enablers, and who are encouraging her to do this.

Thanks for listening, and virtually hugging me! I really need it right now!

I am already in bed doing some last minute surfing before I shut off and try to sleep.

Do keep your kids far far away. If she is hellbent on ruining her life don't let her take you down with her. Didn't she just leave her last husband?

Well our internet was totally out most of the day. Also our phones were not working properly. Both are connected as we have VoIP phones. Let's just say not much got accomplished today. Then again most people were not in the office either so, I do not think it really mattered.

I went to a Pampered Chef party tonight.

I am off to bed. Good night everyone.Hope they get everything fixed at work and you enjoyed the party.

I am hoping someone came and helped this poor man.Wow, that is scary. Glad you all were ok!

The Board of Visitors,
the President and the Faculty

Deb, you make me so tired reading your posts. You are a real life HGTV!

I received my Disney documents today :cool1:

I decided to pick the kids up myself today as that secretary (or whoever she was) had really angered me. I spoke to one of the other Mom's when I got there and she said that the message did say that it was a knife, not good, but much better than a gun. When Hunter came out I asked him about the bus incident and he gave me a clueless look. Then I said the kid with a knife and he knew what I was taking about, but obviously wasn't concerned. He said that a first grader had brought an army knife and was showing it off. Apparently he wasn't threatening anyone, just a show and tell type of thing. Someone told the bus driver and he pulled over and took the knife. The kids did say that he stabbed the back of the seat in front of him several times and there were kids in the seat, but he wasnt' trying to stab throught the seat I ended up walking in and talking to the principal about how my phone call had left me with questions and a very poor response about future protection. He was very nice and assured me that the lady on the phone would be spoken to and given some better phone skills. I feel much better now. I'm glad everyone was ok, and I hope they take measures to prevent it from happening again.

for those who have done it....is the pirate and princess party really worth doing?

remember kids are 13, 10, 9

a brief summary would be appreciated as well
Marci, Marti, and I had a great time!

Just had to get it off my chest before I explode in front of the kids!Yikes! :scared1: Sending you a big hug!

Well, that was one big post! Thanks for all the anniersary wishes. It was our 13th. I'm off to the eye doctor to get new contacts, then haircut, lunch with John, pick up kids, yearly termite bond inspection, then choir tonight. Have a great day!

Oh, and I have 2 adult park hopper tickets with 1 day left on them that I can sell on Ebay from 1986. Would you try to sell them now (and have to explain everything, how to exchange, etc) or exchange them myself in 3 weeks and then just sell the 1 day hoppers?

Tia-see I told you yesterday was practice:rotfl:

I wish we got to see more games...I hate listening to them on the radio:headache:

I was so going to get on here and post the same thing this morning! Nice game. I went through the Sox schedule to not on my calendar what games I might actually get to see. The season is sparse. :( For the Cards though we have a local cable sports station that carries most to all of the games so I'm covered there. Wish you could see more.

with our basic system we do not get Fox Sports or any of the other stations that show ball games but I refuse to pay $30 more a month for that. I remember when all of the games were on regular tv. With the ticket prices jacked up because of the post season run last year it's too dang expensive to go!!

Good morning, DDA!

A huge blanket of :wizard:  :yay: for all. This week at work has been crazy thus far, and I'm not out of the woods yet. We have some important visitors in the office this week that somehow I wound up primarily responsible for. You'd think the Pope himself had come to town. It's wearing me out!

Denise - I'd go with buying the tickets from Undercover Tourist as Janet suggested. All my family in December bought their tickets through them, and everything worked great. Best pricing I could find, too. I'd also either hang onto the tickets (you just never know when you might need a day...) or upgrade them with Disney directly. Since technically Disney tickets are non-transferable, I don't know if I'd go through the hassle/possible problems trying to sell them on eBay. Jonathan and I had tickets like that with 1 day left on them for several years, and ended up needing 1 day between AP's on a trip in '06. Happy Anniversary!

Elin - congrats to Kristin! Did you ever hear any more about the suicidal man? That was very scary, as well as very sad.

Janet - I don't have the DDA e-mail list with me. PM me what e-mail address to send the e-mail to, and I'll send it your way.

Elizabeth - continued prayers for your mom. I hope her appt. today goes as well as possible. Is your aunt going with her? :wizard: for packing.

Glynis -   I can't believe your MIL. That is just utterly nuts, from every angle. I think what you and Alan are doing for your family is completely understandable, and I'm glad you both agree on it. Hang in there!

Deb - sounds like another very busy day, and so sorry to hear about the weather. I hope today is a better one!

Vicki - yikes - all that SNOW! That is not a very funny joke, is it?

Stephanie - it was good to see you pop in!

Terry - I was sorry to hear your IllumiNations cruise story. I've had things like that happen to me before - it's so frustrating when you don't know they're coming!

Lots of :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for anyone I missed. It wasn't intentional.

Back to babysitting!

Hi everyone!

Glynis - Sorry about the whacky MIL. Good luck in whatever you and Alan decide to do.

Elizabeth - :wizard: for your mom today.

Robyn - Did you see that Hairspray is coming to the Warner Theater in 2 weeks! I'm so tempted to take the kids. We saw the movie in the theater and Alyssa loves the soundtrack.

Lindsay - Sorry you got stuck playing Tour Guide Barbie this week!
I don't know if my aunt is going with my mom. Nobody ever said. :confused3 I know the oncologist's name and I can get his phone # off the website, so I can always call him directly if there is something she doesn't understand or can't remember. Depending on what she tells me this afternoon I may just call him anyway. Just to say hello, introduce myself, and let him know I will be watching her treatment like a HAWK. I know 2 oncologists and an oncology researcher here so if something doesn't sound right I will be checking with them. I won't tell him that part - no need to put him on the defensive before we get out of the starting gate. :rolleyes1

I did it. I broke down and bought tickets to see Hairspray in DC. This will be Alyssa's bday gift from Bob and I, since her bday is 10 days later.

I have a packet of Au Jus that I want to use to make beef sandwiches with. Do I just add this to a roast while it is cooking?

Any suggestions?

Sorry I can't help you. I've never used one before!

Wow...that is not good at all. There is no way that she knows enough about this man to make an informed decision. That is pretty scary he could be an axe murderer or child molestor for all she knows. Do keep your kids far far away. If she is hellbent on ruining her life don't let her take you down with her. Didn't she just leave her last husband?

This is exactly how I feel!! She left her last husband about 13 months ago. She swore that she was not going to do this again, but obviously wasn't serious! Luckily, Alan feels the same way I do. We informed all the siblings (she is still visiting her new fiance), last night that we would not be attending any family functions where this new man is. To our surprise 3 other siblings felt the same way. I guess that this will be quite a rude awakening for MIL.
