Ok...im not concerned about this for myself but for my fiance's father. I've gone in Aug. and Sept when its really really hot, May won't be that bad for me. Anyway...the future father in law is a true hot head. He can be sitting in a chair and be swetting like a faucet. It dosn't help that he is over weight. Anyway what are some tips to keep cool in the parks besides the obvious of staying in the air condition as much as possible and wearing hat, cool clothing etc.

Thanks in advance!

It works wonders to wet a kerchief (or other cloth) and wrap it around your neck. You can rewet it as need be. It's amazing what a cooling affect this can have.

its already warming up in south FL. I have been noticing more and more people walking around with those lil fans. You can find them in targets camping section!

what about a neck cooler? you soak them in cold water and they absorb the water. the heat from your body makes it evaporate and keeps you cool. they really work too. i made a trial one to see if it would work and have been waiting for it to warm up. well the AC broke at work. gave it to my kitchen gal to wear because that is the hottest part of the restaurant. she was in heaven while the rest of us were hot as heck. but the lobby AC was working so we were better off than she was. they really don't cost too much to make and are easy to do. if i can make one anyone can!

On my trip last October (upper 80s in temperature), I found that these worked best:

Mini mister fan (the little ones that clip on a belt loop) - from Walmart
Wearing "coolmax" clothes (they wick away moisture)
Wear a cool hat
A wet bandana
Using wet-wipes to freshen up
Seek out shade and air conditioning whenever possible

Also, be sure to drink lots of water, even if you don't feel thirsty. I got quite dehydrated, and thought I had been drinking enough water. My puffy ankles indicated otherwise! It took me days to get back to normal.

Okay, you're gonna totally laugh at me, but if you have access to a juicer (bring yours from home if possible), celery juice (not canned stuff) works amazingly well as a cool down.
Seriously, I know it sounds so weird (and doesn't taste that great either) but it totally works and is pretty amazing.

spraymist fans. love them! i go in august quite often (call me crazy) and i use those fans that you fill with water and as the fan is spinning you can spray the water, it's like a mist. this is cooling.:cool1:

Thanks guys for all the replys! We are going to defintely do some of these things. But primarily I think we've decided to just have him out in the parks till like noon and not return till like 5 or so. Just relax during the hot part of the day. They are theme park people anyway and honestly I don't think he will enjoy it (never been). And besides the point both DFi and I will need a break from pushing a wheel chair so...thats gonna be the plan. If anyone else has anything else to add though i'm still open for suggestions!

:thanks:

I agree 100% with samsam...I usually take a hand towel and wet it..I found this out by mistake when I was on a mission trip...the heat was unbearable and I just wet a cloth to wash my face and well, the rest is history:)

mrs. sparrow do you know where to get inexpensive spray misting fans? Will be there in June. In Hawaii, not in Walmart yet. Thought you may know of some where else you could get them? Thanks for your help and info?

I buy these at WalMart. They are usually in the sporting goods / camping area. They work wonders. They are filled w/ silicone and last for days.

-mini misting fans w/ clip
-I usually grab a face cloth from the room and bring a sandwich size zip lock bag. That way whenever we are hot we can get it good & cold, but it won't get our stuff wet.

And yes,....... i do bring it back to the room :rotfl2:

Or those little magic face cloth towels are great too...then you can use them at home:3dglasses

My local job lot always has disposable wash clothes. They are like magic towels and expand when wet. The are round and come in an 8 pack. I usually throw some in my back pack. When we take a break i will wet one and wash my girls faces with it. Then i just throw them out.
You can buy the cool mist fans at the park, they have a strap but they are pricey too. I broke down and bought one on a trip 2 years ago. Then last year i forgot it so ended up with another one. You can bet i keep one in my car for those hot days and one in my suitcase because i am not buying yet another one.
