Had a busy day yesterday. Kitchen faucet broke so I had to replace that. Then my computer monitor died and had to replace that. Good thing today is payday.

Does anyone else here listen to the DIS Unplugged podcast? I've been listening for nearly a year and really enjoy it. It is hosted by Pete (the guy who started the DIS) and several other folks who help run the site. The Disney info is good and the banter is a lot of fun.
(For those who haven't heard of a "podcast" before - it is sort of like a talk radio show on the internet. You can listen on your computer or download it to your MP3 player.)
I download it every week and then listen to it as I drive to and from work (and chaufering DS8 around). My MP3 player plugs into a little device that broadcasts the sound to my car radio. If you click on the orange bar in my signature, it will take you to the podcast's homepage....

I didn't post pics of DS and his birthday Crocs....
This is one of the only photos of him standing still in them:
Once they were on, he was off like a shot!
http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u194/AmyJo74/DISboard/Disneycrocs.jpg
I pretty much had to pry them off him because he wanted to sleep in them! :rotfl: Luckily the easy way to get him out of these things is to show him his Keen shoes...he'll gladly swap because he's a shoe hoe! :sad2:

Super cute! I think the tiny crocs are cute - while the ones I and DS8 wear are rather ugly. BUT, oh so comfortable!
My DS started wearing crocs soon after I did (at least 1.5 years ago) and I have pretty much quit buying him sandals, flip flops or even as many pairs of gym shoes - the kid lives in his crocs! I have talked to other parents who have the same phenomena - what's the point getting them other shoes if they'll only wear crocs day in and day out? :rotfl2:
He is very annoyed that he HAS to wear gym shoes to day camp this week and as soon as he gets home he switches to a pair of crocs.
So, since you are starting him young - I forsee a LOT of crocs in your future!

Was woken up at 4:45am this morning by an earthquake. It was a 4.2 and centered only about 8-10 miles from me. This one lasted quite a while, 15-20 seconds I'd guess. They are usually shorter than that. So far no reports of damage and if there have been aftershocks, I haven't felt any.

I think in my last 3 trips to Vegas I only gambled once, and that was just to drop a quarter in the slot machine because I couldn't leave without doing some sort of gambling.

I found these 2 citations of your model - its' a posting on the Staples clearance sale. I don't know if it is actually your configuration - as I found the same model number associated with HPs - and the HP V6310 seems to have several configurations without changes in the model designation. Maybe I'm mistaken -
When I was sorting through my options I found the convoluted CPU names to be confusing. I finally settled on notebook reviews which sited benchmarks for 3D rendering, floating point calculations (time to find the 2 millionth place of Pi) and so on. And to my mild amazement - I was considering an HP that cost a couple hundred more net - and was originally proced a lot more then the one I finally settled on. Plus it boasted of having an NVIDIA video processor. However- the techs at Best Buy said these were not really seperate boards - even though they had typically 64MB of seperate processing memory for the video. The techs said to get effective 3D game rendering I would need at least 256K of V-ram. I don't know about this except the HP with the NVIDIA with 64K had half the benchmark 3D rendering performance of the Intel intergrated graphics performance (9500) of the cheaper TOshiba I bought. So even before the techs told methis I had discovered this bit of unexpected performance.
Either way - I think the only way to get good 3D game performance is to go for the big expensive gaming notebooks - the $4000 ones. And I don't really value 3D 1st person shooter games like that enough to lust after those machines. The only games I need engage in are the slow strategy games and basic childrens edutainment programs. So - my little cheapie Tishiba should serve well enough.
Mine is the AMD Turion 64 x2 Dual-Core processor. The new CPU configurations are indeed confusing: Dual-core vs. Core Duo One has two processing areas on a single CPU die the other has two separate CPUs on a single CPU die. Oy! It's easier when looking at AMD products (Turion vs. Sempron). I went with the Turion though it technically may be slower than the Sempron configuration because the Turion will have more horsepower when I need to start running the Visual Studio development suite, Office 2007 and Sony's streaming video editor (all at the same time of course since I'm too lazy to shut things down ;)).
I don't play computer games enough to warrant paying $4000 for a sweet gaming laptop like Asus or Dell XPS. Maybe if I win the Powerball :thumbsup2

Well his shoe fetishness goes beyond the Crocs...he likes ALL shoes! You should see him when we go into Stride-Rite or Payless, he starts pulling his shoes off because he knows (assumes) that we're shoe shopping for him! And when I was at Dillard's looking at some Eccos that were on clearance, again, he starts taking his shoes off because he needs to try on a few pairs! Oy! :sad2: I don't think that addage that boys are cheaper than girls holds true for this new generation! :hippie:
And if he does start liking Crocs over all others, at least there are plenty of *gasp* generic versions out there! :rolleyes1

Plus you have the free valet and garage parking everywhere so the car will be in the shade and even if you are walking on The Strip, there's always the people movers to take you from the street and into, say, Ceasar's Palace under a covered canopy with misters.
When we do have to be outside it won't be for long, until evening when the temp drops to the mid 80s.

YA kno what...
I'd get one of those fancy gaming machines IF I didn't have to worry about what my kids would think with dear old Dad playing a game of shooting other people with a gun or machine gun .. or chasing bad guys with a chain saw or something like that. Yeah - maybe I'm painting it nasty with those references - but I would rather not be shooting anything with a weapon in an active game with my kids around.
I have an X-box in need of repair - and I have no intention of fixing it since I don't need the kids seeing one of those things working around here. I figure it's best to not have pure entertainment distractions around here - if possible.
On the other hand IF I hit the powerball ... I would probably get one though and say "what the heck!" !!!!

I was already composing my regrets posting and thinking about what sort of image I'd start to google for to accompany it.

I don't have to for ketchup right now, but I wanted to check in and let you know that we found a house (rental) in the Mount Vernon area about 3 blocks from the Mount Vernon Yacht Club (we're not rich, but we can see it from here!). There is even a plaque by the front door that says it sits on land that was part of George Washington's Five Farms of Mount Vernon. We're about a mile from George's house. We're going to make a sign for the guest room that says "George Washinton's tobacco slept here" or something like that.
All the other areas we looked in made us grumpy - too much traffic, too many people, too much suburban sprawl. This area is less commercial, less congested and much better for us.
Anyway, I had a 3 hour job interview yesterday that seemed to have gone well & I have an interview at Mount Vernon next week. Of course living a mile away from there, I just guaranteed that I won't get that job...that's the way my life goes.
I hope all is well and I will try to ketchup in a few days.
I guess when I played ketchup I missed your post.:sad2: Hope you got the job.:goodvibes :flower3:
I didn't post pics of DS and his birthday Crocs....
This is one of the only photos of him standing still in them:

I pretty much had to pry them off him because he wanted to sleep in them! :rotfl: Luckily the easy way to get him out of these things is to show him his Keen shoes...he'll gladly swap because he's a shoe hoe!
How adorable:goodvibes Alomost makes me want a little one again!!! I just thought about that again and I think I will be satisfied with the grandchildren.:lmao: :lmao:
You bring up an interesting question -- how much, if any, did they oversell the different categories? Quite often they do far oversell the cat 12s, for instance, leading to many upgrades to at least 11s, but I wonder how many they sold for this one? It's hard to believe that anyone would allow themselves to be "bought out" for this cruise -- it's not like you can get on the next one as you could if you were bought out for a 7 night Western or something.
I know that many people book a cruise and end up having to cancel for all kinds of reasons, but it seems less likely that there will be many on this cruise other than more serious reasons (health, job loss, etc.) I hope DCL kept the overbooking to a minimum for this reason.
Believe it or not, I wouldn't take that deal . . .
I don't think I would trade for any other cruise either!!! :rolleyes1 There is only one TOAL .:thumbsup2 :rotfl:
Good morning! I've been away a couple days since life is REALLY hectic at the moment. At the office, I am trying to be 4 people and I'm finding it rather challenging! :lmao: I work for my parents (family business) and usually when they are traveling it is for 1 week or less and most or their work can just wait for them to get back - but this time they are in Europe for just over 2 weeks and I can't just let stuff wait that long. We're a very small company with the 3 of us and 1 assistant. Unfortunately, the assistant is also out of town and won't be back until Wednesday! I keep thinking "at least I'll get even next year when I go on the TOAL!"
Thankfully, DS8 decided he didn't want to be at the office under these conditions :rotfl2: and is going to our park district's day camp this week and next. Monday-Thursday he has swimming lessons at 6pm, so I've been picking him up at camp, getting him a quick snack and then going to the pool. By the time I get home at 6:45, I'm about ready to collapse! DH has been really nice and has been cooking dinner so we can eat as soon as we get home.
I am soooo looking forward to relaxing tomorrow and the Chicago DIS meet on Sunday!
Pamela (pdarrah)
I am soo looking forward to see you again.:flower3: The rest of the family too!!!:woohoo:

Never mind. It only works with people with Gmail. Tom is the only one that I know of that has one.
I have gmail also (one of my 3 main addys!) but it would be better to find something that everyone can use without having to setup an account. I haven't chatted anywhere but the DIS so I'm not of much help here...
Tom - does Mambo have a "chat" module? If it does, maybe we could get it setup for future emergency chat backup.

Sorry! Techie talk  The software that is behind the website that JR created and Tom is now handling is called Mambo. It has a lot of different modules that can be incorporated into a site - such as the calendar that is on there. I was just asking him if there is a chat module that could be added - in other words being lazy and not going to look it up myself!

OMG!!!! That would totally freak me.
Don't forget to follow Mary's (Atakaratemon) trip to Alaska starting today. She is leaving from San Francisco. They have a webcam on the boat (Dawn Princess) to follow along.

Well...
... my evening of relaxing has not been a total loss - I'm watching a movie on HD I've never seen before - the Sentinel - and it is very entertaining - and the sort of thing I would not watch with the kids around. What a nice break it's been - the last 90 minutes or so that is.

We did some upgrading today and installed an airport so we could all be online at the same time and thought we had messed something up. Not glad chat is down but glad I don't have to go back throught it all again to figure out what we did wrong.
Just back from a couple of days at WDW with the kids and grandkids. Not one of our best trips. Add the heat to the multiple tour groups to chasing a two and four year old and I'm beat. Just thought I'd report that they are starting to dismantle the additions to Space Ship Earth. The letters for "EPCOT" and the tip of the wand are gone. It is really going to look strange when they are finished. I remember watching them put it up and now it's going to take time to get used to the new look. It was the same way with the "Castle Cake" at the Magic Kingdom.
We'll be back there in a couple of weeks and at the rate they are going the arm and the wand should be gone.
I guess I'll use the time tonight to finally ketchup - Only about ten pages to go. It's hard when the office becomes a guest room for the little ones. Right now they both should be asleep instead of whatching me on the computer.
Hope you all have a great weekend. It's back to being Grandmom and I think another bedtime story is in my future.

Pamela (pdarrah)
I'm a long time listener too - they have me in fits of laughter at times. I have to remember to be careful where I'm listening or I get some odd looks walking around laughing to myself. :rotfl2:

Have been reading but not writing I have had a bad week health wise. Spent all day Monday in the Dr's office and he spend over well over an hour with me. Well...
.. the threads' activity totals are mounting. The number of hits or visits to the thread now stand at 697,979! And obviously we're at 68,136+ postings. Amazing eh? The thread has existed since January 13th - 2:39PM. So to this postings' moment of initial inclusion (10:12PM) it makes it 188 days + 7 hours and 33 minutes old. This equates to 271,173 minutes.
http://math.sfsu.edu/beck/images/stan.oli.do.math.gif
So ... we've generated one new posting every 3 minutes and 58.792708700246565692145121521663 seconds. This also means we've had one new visit or hit to the thread every 23.31070132482495891710209046404 seconds over the life of the thread. So... I figure we have 392 days, 18 hours and 48 minutes to embarkation - assuming a 5PM embarkation. that translates into 565,608 minutes to go for us til we sail. SO... if we continue this pace of posting and hits - I would like to offer an unaudited estimate of an additional 142,116.9 postings to come to make for an estimated grand total of 210,253 postings at embarkation! Plus the number of hits is estimated to add 1,455,832.6 new hits/visits. So... the total hits/visits to the thread is estimated to be 2,153,812 at an embarkation time of 5PM.
And the individual posting totals are as follows:

I love listening to the podcast each week. They are hilarious. I Love BOB!!!

Todd, that was the first thing that I thought of, being able to meet you and your family, but alas it will be August 16-18th. I think that you will be in Europe or on your way :sad2: to board the Magic. Don't worry, the family will probably be back for spring break next year.
Yep ...we Leave Early morning on the 16th ..dang .....Well dont forget we are planning a DIS meet at DL the weekend of March 14 ..Dont forget ...I think a nice lunch or dinner in DTD or DL at the Blue Bayou would be the perfect setting for us Pirates ....

Anyone traveling to Vegas before Sept 30, you can get tickets to all the cirque shows for $50. These are the good seats too, not way in the back.
http://www.ticketmaster.com/summerofcirque
You get to purchase the tickets for $50 and also be entered into to win a trip to see any other cirque show.
I may take a visit to Vegas just to see Zumanity!
LOVE Zumanity ...I think it is one of the best Cirque shows in town ...

Sorry I had to dive out of chat suddenly today. I just realised how late it was getting and I had a few chores I needed to do before it got dark.
We are having a really busy time at the moment as my inlaws are separating so we are helping them pack boxes as they have sold their house and need to be out by the 3rd August. Things should start to settle a bit after that.
Hope to catch you all next week!

I was just heading to the podcast boards to see how to download the podcast, but stopped here to ketchup first. (Yes, it's an addiction.) Thanks for the tip. I'll set it up through itunes now.
Paula - have you voted for it at PodcastAlley? There is a link from the Podcast page. When I did it yesterday, they were in 16th place for July! It would be cool to push them up into the top 10.
Pamela (pdarrah)
I'll check that out too and vote for them.

OK, so ketchup had the better of me. I guess that'll teach me for not reading on a daily basis. Got hit with shed loads of rain yesterday, luckily I never got stranded, but with water almost half way up the doors & a lorry going the other way creating a tidal wave, I did begin to wonder whether my little renatl car was infact going to sprout water wings & turn into a relation of chitty chitty bang bang!!!:rotfl2:
It's yet another busy week coming up & as Lauren has now broken up for the summer hols there will be even more running around to do. We go on holiday to Ireland next week & I've never been so unprepared - discovered last night we didn't even have a map & Ireland is not on the European sat nav software we have.
I know it's still over a year away, but all the talk of the committees, activities etc. makes me excited :yay: & I'll be even worse come September when we can book flights - then to decide on previsit accommodation, hire car etc - so much to plan & so little time
I know there has been many posts about getting penpals for our various offspring & wondered whether it was worth trying to specifically co-ordinate something? What are people's views & how viable do we think it would be? I'm daft enough to say I'd be happy to co-ordinate a list as I know my DD (7) enjoys corresponding with others prior to the cruise.

... my evening of relaxing has not been a total loss - I'm watching a movie on HD I've never seen before - the Sentinel - and it is very entertaining - and the sort of thing I would not watch with the kids around. What a nice break it's been - the last 90 minutes or so that is.
Good movie. You are right it is not a movie for kids.

Well...
.. the threads' activity totals are mounting.

Fish Extender = roughly 8" wide set of pockets that you hang from your Mail Fish, so that all the DISers who want to can put stuff in the pockets. There ought to be a link around somewhere...

Yes, as sarangel said, many people like to hang something from their fish to receive notes, small presents, etc. from other Dissers during the cruise . . . someone needed to be in charge of organizing the list closer to time, and with all the GTY cabins, it started seeming like a larger job than one person could handle, so we ended up with a committee. THe drinking part just came up in fun, but I think we plan to take it very seriously . . .
You can take DisneyVegas's plan and just be a part of the drinking activities . . . or let me know if you want to be a part of the fish extender part as well.

Here is a pic of the "Fish Extender" that someone put on our "Fish Mail" holder during our August 2006 cruise. To this day, I still do not know who put it there, but it sure came in handy during the cruise!!! :goodvibes

There are so many places in California that I'd like to visit. We're hoping for a few days at Disneyland before the TOAL, but we'll have to make another trip to hit some more places. Napa is definitely on our list!
http://www.dotphoto.com/SAN1/EE/A6/D1/iEEA6D16B-3EFB-4377-99F6-7177CA60525F.jpg
I must confess to thinking the SAME thing - that there are a lot of places I'd like to get around to visiting in the state. AND I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA! I've lived here for over 4 decades ... and (EG) have only been to Yosemite twice - with the visit a couple of weeks ago being the 2nd occasion.
http://www.dotphoto.com/SAN1/F5/EB/2A/iF5EB2A58-30D3-4F99-A2D5-8DF840D8237B.jpg
Seriously, I've been all over the state as you can imagine - but there really are still so many things I have not gotten to which I need to "do" some time soon before my walk on the planet nears an end! To say nothing of the destinations around the Country and World I have yet to experience in person!
I guess all that means is I ("we all") need to a move on and start travelin' about, eh?

Sorry I had to dive out of chat suddenly today. I just realised how late it was getting and I had a few chores I needed to do before it got dark.
We are having a really busy time at the moment as my inlaws are separating so we are helping them pack boxes as they have sold their house and need to be out by the 3rd August. Things should start to settle a bit after that.
Hope to catch you all next week!

So are gonna organize a source for fish? How about a contest for best of several catagoriesof Fish on the ship? And ... how about other fish related ideas?
And are we gonna stage embarked working committee meetings? IE... blender parties open to staff members and "volunteers" (IE - anyone else who wants to party?).
I've never done this before - but have been on a sailing with an active DIS community supporting activities - some FISH related.

Happy Friday Everyone!!!!
What a week this has been!!! HOT!HOT!HOT Last night we had winds up to 50 mph and there are abount 20,000 people still without power. We needed the rain.
Have been reading but not writing I have had a bad week health wise. Spent all day Monday in the Dr's office and he spend over well over an hour with me. He is a very caring Dr. Being in the medical field this is really rare when all the higher ups are looking for volume. I have worked in Labor and D:grouphug: elivery and in medical offices for over 25 yrs. and you don't see this too often. I have to go back on Monday am and hopefully see what is going on. Sorry for going off subject.
....

Karen....
.... we'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Having had so many (so it seems) of our old friends fall ill to one thing or another in recent years has shocked me into realizing we are NOT all as young and seemingly invincible as I used to feel. Not that I'm scared ofr my health - just that we're all in the same boat - if you get my drift?

That is.... we're all IN the same boat in more ways then ONE!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! LOL! Several of our children are also gamers. Our oldest and a friend drove to NC a couple of yrs ago to vist some of his & dh's online gamer friends! LOL!
Right this minute dh is on the computer next to mine playing COV and I think 9ds (Elvis) is either playing with him or playing COH on the computer on the other side of DH.....
9ds has a show tonight so, he is getting in some *play time* with his dad now -- most nights for the past 6 wks he's either had a show or rehearsals every night (except Sundays....) :)
DH wants y'all to know that they also have WOW accounts. ANd would love to play with a Diser or two....

Karen,
.... you're too kind. I'm just out to have a few chuckles - and here seems as convenient a place as any for me to say your simple understated compliments are humbly appreciated. I wonder if any think of me as more than just the clowning around sort ... sometimes. I'll be sure to tell my parole officer I've been recognized as a decent sort again! <chuckles> And NO.... I don't have a parole officer - for those who pause to reflect a little more then they should on my remarks...
< stern chuckling >
Now I have to step out to run a few errands in preparation for this evenings poolside dinner party - and I gotta finish my stuff before my daughters' first BALLET class at 3PM. So much stuff to do - and now I find myself thinking I gotta get going again....
Adios - and TTFN!

If it wasn't for the fact that my computer sits between their 4 computers (2 to my riight and 2 to my left) and they talk WAY TOO MUCH I wouldn't know half the stuff I know!
Of course our 16dd thinks it is funny that I can talk games to people more then she can --- I am usually pretty good at meaningless small talk! :rotfl: :rotfl: I am the only one that nevr plays any games -- I do like solitare....... ;)
We have tons of video game systems too and have for 22yrs (when Nintendo first came out...) and the only game system I seem to like is the Wii..... It's funny though...6dd won't let me play! LOL! Whenever anyonehands me one of the controller sticks (to bowl, tennis, whatever) she starts yelling *Mom hates to play video games. She can't play with us!* It cracks the older kids (27 & almost 24) up!!! :rotfl:

Oh, I hope she has fun!!! 16dd took Ballet for 10yrs -- she just quit this past Dec....The only reason she stopped was because her scoliosis caused her so much back pain while dancing. It was becoming way too much like work and less like fun! :sad2:
Oldest dd (almost 24) loved tap & jazz....hated Ballet! 6dd also hates ballet.... They will tell you the same thing *It's too quiet and boring* ;)

The closest I come to any "games" is online Hangman on the Pogo site! :lmao: Kev and I have no kids so you'll find no Xboxes,Nintendos,Wii, Ipods,Bluetooths, etc. in our house. Hell, I still have all of our LPs!
Kev plays "Hero" with a group of his buddies, not any online games. They've been off for the summer but normally get together every other week or so.

Thank you Crash and to others that have posted their warm wishes (I don't know how to multiquote sorry).
It is a very difficult time and emotional too. They have been married for 38ish years so its very hard for everyone. They split about a year ago and have been dithering over how to move on but have now managed to sell their house so are finally going their separate ways. My MIL has bought a new place and moves in on the 10th August. My FIL has decided to move to the north island as he has never much felt at home here as he prefers a larger city.
I think once the house thing has been done it will be easier for everyone to start new lives or just move on. I'm just doing what I can to help and acting as a peace keeper or staying low.
Luckily I get on very well with both my inlaws so that helps but I'd like it to stay that way :thumbsup2

[COLOR="DarkOrchid"]On our last cruise there were several people that had cabins switched at the terminal (upgrades, GTY status room changes) and once that happened there was no way of finding out what cabin they had moved to unless you happened to run into them on the ship.I can see this being an issue (on a much larger scale) with all the GTY's we have.
Perhaps we should have some plan in place if your cabin number changes from the list at any time you can notify other DISers via fish mail :confused3 :confused3 ....just thinking out loud.
On our last cruise it was easy to recognize one of the DIS Cabins by the way the doors were decorated.

we've been trying since before we booked this cruise, but it just wasn't working. this was our last month of trying before the cruise. we've always wanted 4, but i would have been happy with the 3 i have. my parents and dh's parents of course will have other thoughts!! i'm sure they will have something to say about it messing up our cruise plans, but little do they know that i was praying and hoping....and TBA wheeler baby is already booked for passage!!!! he/she was listed on our ressie jan 31st!!
the kids will be very excited when they find out. they've recently been commenting on how i should have another baby. i think it must be a 6th sense of thiers or something. they will be 10, 8, and 5 at the time of birth....wider age range than i wanted between the last one, but i'll take it!!!
