Prayers and hugs to you and your family.
Hey everyone. Here I go again trying to ketchup. It's been an up and down past few weeks - months. Part of my trouble catching up is that my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. I was a bit worried that I would have to cancel this cruise because I couldn't be away that long. Unfortunately, that is not the case. My mom passed away last Friday. I was lucky enough to be with her full time for the last week, which is a big part of the reason I have gotten so far behind.
Now for the good. One year from today I will be celebrating the big 4-0 on this cruise!!! I am really excited for that as I celebrated my birthday a couple years ago on the Magic on the PC cruise then.

Had a great time on the Crown Princess, a 9 day cruise is sooo much better than a 7 day. The little guys (Ian Thomas 7 months) took a few days to get his sea legs, but everyone fushed over him. Too many people on the ship (3100) and sea days were crowded. The food was fair, not up to DCL standards. The one great thing is they have a great no smoking policy and enforce it, twice people walked in our area and they were right on them. I wish DCL was as good, for this reason alone I'd sail with them again. Embarkment was quick and easy, docked at 7am off at 9am, got our luggage and was leaving by limo at 9:35 from Brooklyn and arrived home at 11:45am.
Took out our 700 pictures from Acapulco when we were there in the mid 80's and went through them, brings back a lot of memories. We were high on the hill above the harbor and had servants a cleaning/cook who fixed great meals. We spent three great weeks there. You do not under any conditions go off the main thoroughfares. One of the servants took us for a ride one day and the back streets are patrolled by troops with automatic weapons, he said it was not safe. The flea market is great you must not pay the asking price if something is $9.00 you can get it for $2.

I was in Aruba 3 years ago and a couple of things stand out in my mind.
The first is that Aruba was very windy. I have long hair so it was a pain.
Secondly is there must be 2 sides of the island. We went to the "wrong" one. It was very industrial, very, very windy and not so pretty. We will make sure we do not back to the same side again.
On a side note, I listed the stops when I donated blood last week and they said I would be blocked for a year after we get back. I will make sure I go every 2 months during the next 12 months and then maybe I won't feel so bad next year not being able to donate.
Yes I was banned for donating after our Western. 2 years ago. We were diverted to Costa Maya since Cozumel had been hit hard by the hurricane just before we cruised. It was Costa Maya that got me banned.

Look it's me under the sea...
http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/data/500/72939scuba1small.jpg
Well actually it's no sea...it's only the pool at the Vistana Villages....
I took an intro to scuba class and i really liked it. Might just have to look into Scuba Certification classes here at home... Then i'd just have to get past the shear panic factor of deep sea and sharks or large fish.
You should be proud. I dont think I could even scuba in a pool. I even have a hard time snorkling. I start to panic (even though all I have to do is lift my head 2 inches)

Yes I was banned for donating after our Western. 2 years ago.
Our county is doing a big drive tomorrow but alas....i am banned because of Costa Maya too until December. Well that and because of my surgery in February....I'm banned permanently because blood loss of even a pint will really throw my iron levels and i'd have to have an infusion to compensate.
You should be proud. I dont think I could even scuba in a pool. I even have a hard time snorkling. I start to panic (even though all I have to do is lift my head 2 inches)
Oh trust me i did panic a bunch the first time down....and second... and third... I was literally shaking and thought i really couldn't do it....
Then i started doing the breathe out...breathe in.... At first i breathed out/in alot but then i went to more normal breathing as i got used to it...
The only real problem i had was one time when i turned my head funny and the mask started to fill with water. I had to surface to empty out.

Hi Arlene, we made it back in one piece. Well except for my daughters foot. The Dr. explained that she suffered a "terrible injury" and that it would take some time before it heals. The Dr. opines that surgery is not an option at this point due to the potential risks. He put the leg in a hard cast and will evaluate her progress or lack therof every two weks. We are taking her to another ortho surg. that Pete knows on wednesday. Hopefully, he will concur that surgery is not needed and that it will heal on its own. Sorry for the long answer. We are very appreciative of your thoughts. Jack
Jack I hate to here that about your DD. Here is some pixiedust: pixiedust: for her. I hope she is not in too much pain:flower3:

If only I were as good with Photoshop as he is, there'd be a picture of he and Miss Keira dancing! Drats.
Ya know...
... all I do is rip an image to my computer off of Google.. then I just open it as a Paint doc - the same simple paint utility as is bundled on any Windows OS machine. Then I save it as a JPEG and upload to my image host - dotphoto. Then from there I post the image. Yes it does take a lot longer then posting a link to a pre-existing image off a google search - but it often is a breezy process.
Oh, I did have an intermediary stage where I used a photo program to rotate an image prior to adding the verbage in paint. but took all of a couple of minutes.... tops.
So now you can try to manipulate an image if you're feelin' adventurous. If not - PM me something ya wanna do and I'll find the samples and walk ou through ... that is ... if I can do what you're interested in doing - and can find the images necessary to achieve thedesired effect. The only thing - once I show you how - ya gotta do a few every now and then! Plus add some "chuckles" at the end of yer posting!

Hi Everyone!
Today, DS8 started 3rd grade - hopefully this will be the year that things click for him and he will feel like he fits in better at school.
Oops - lunch is just about over - need to get back to work!
Pamela (pdarrah)
Pamela, you sure have been busy. I hope DS enjoys the 3rd grade.:goodvibes
The dive was *VERY* cool. We spent an hour on the boat learning how not to kill ourseves, then had two dives at about 50' each. We saw a submarine & Eagle Ray, plus boatloads of fish. I so want to get certified, but DD is only 4 - it's gonna be a while. The upside is that she is a serious water baby. She's learning to float & dog paddle (in her floatie suit). In 2005 (when she was 2) we spent almost 3 hours in a pool in Puerto Vallerta (at the Krystal Resort). When we took her out ('cause her teeth were chattering), she cried & said she wanted to go back into the water. I think we'll try going there again in 2008 (at least for a while).
We did a resort dive the last time we did the Mexican Riviera. We'd taken the excursion to Las Caletas in Puerto Vallarta, and they told us on the boat on the way over there that we could sign up. Since we've snorkeled forever, we thought we'd try it.
Although I did really like it, I still prefer to be in control of my air supply.
Jay found that he can't do it, because he has too much trouble with his ears...but our son was only 12 at the time, and he loved it.
Besides, when it takes 3 people to zip you into a wet suit, you know you're just not meant for it.
I would love to dive at least once.............but I am AFRAID of the BIG fish:)

I am truly sorry to learn of your loss. I was the primary care giver for my Mom when she battled multiple myeloma - a rare form of cancer. So - in some ways I have a sense of what your loss has been like. And then again... I cannot possibly know what your loss was like as well.
At any rate - please accept our familys' sympathy and heart felt condolences.

So - how about a samplin' of those 700 pictures? we're waitin' ... OK? And please don't start about where MY pictures are from our recent exploits - the Hawaii thing a couple of weeks ago or sequoia last week. I'm still recovering from the non-stop driving and todays 1st day of 1st grade for my older daughter! Plus the younger one just moved up today to final stage of pre-school before she considers K-school! OK... I got dinner cookin' and alicia is walkin' the dog while enjoying the early evening with the stroll. ME... I get to escape after dinner is served. Indentureed servitude is not all THAT bad... I get to spend my days in bliss with my dearest best friend of 24 years! Besides - she cooks about half the time too!
Gotta go now before I BURN something - TTFN!

I can sort of see having the policy - what I don't get is why they wouldn't release kids to their PARENTS. The school doesn't have the right to keep kids from their legal guardians do they? Once they release the kid to their parents, the school isn't responsible for their safety anymore and the parents can decide if it is safe enough to take their child home. You would think that this would be easier on the school - yes, having to have each parent sign out their kid is a pain, but it has to be less of a pain than having ALL the kids held their for hours! It would still annoy people, but it wouldn't make the evening news.
Pamela (pdarrah)
I completely agree. I don't see how it's legal to keep the children from their parents. Usually once the parents pick up child or sign them out (even during a normal school day for whatever reason) the school is no longer liable for that child. So I don't get refusing to allow the children to leave with their parents- after all, the parents are the ones ultimately in charge of their child's welfare- as it should be. I cannot even imagine the mayhem that would happen if they kept the kids inside here like that. I don't even want to imagine that...
My guess, by the way, for the 4th ship is:
WISHES
Magic & Wonder, Dreams & Wishes
It just sounds right.
That's my guess too. Sounds good to me. :)
Thanks, I got my ressie down to the $54.00. I missed the first discount rates earlier cause I waited too long. This beats the $95.20 + tax I originally had. Now I have to buy the 08 book. My company usaually does a discount, but I'm going to see if the Anaheim book can be used as well. There may be some discounts.
quoting this so I can find the original post again and read more than just the first page for more info. I want to get my ressie discounted even further too! I have to read the thread more to see how you did it before even buying the book..

I have panic attacks just snorkeling the few times I have (cancun, jamaica, and at the disney water park LOL) I'm okay with breathing under water- I can scuba dive in our pool and I'm fine.. but get me in water with fish- specifically where there can be BIG fish like sharks -uh.. no thanks.
And now he's talking about getting Robert certified when he turns 10 (in nov) and I'm like uh, we'll talk about it. I think we're going to have a showdown though. I can barely stomach Jeff going scuba diving at the ports when we cruise-- I don't know about my BABY BOY doing the same thing. It makes me shudder to think about it. Yes, my fear is that bad... that it flows onto being afraid for my loved ones rather than just myself!
Jack
I'm so sorry about your daughter's foot. I hope the cast helps!
Tracy
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. You have my deepest sympathies. I'm so glad you were able to spend the time with her before she passed.
We are going on the repo trip in 08 too. Sorry to hear about your loss. My dad is very ill but booked for the trip with us. We are all hoping he will be with us on the trip, but will insist that my mom go with us no matter what. God bless you.
Welcome to the group!!! Glad to have you. :)
I haven't been on for awhile (anyone notice? :lmao: ) but that's primarily because I've been busy AND for some reason now the pages on this board are taking forever! what is that about? I don't have the patience to catch up reading every page when it takes like 5 minutes for each page to load. It's only here- so that is really weird.... but I did eventually catch up tonight. Just been busy with the kids starting school and everything. And catching up on little naps during the day- when I can in between running errands, cleaning house, trying to subdue the violent thoughts towards the neighbor for leaving their bloodhound outside to howl NONSTOP every single day (ugh), etc. Things will settle down here a bit more in the next few weeks and I'll be able to post more. :)

We could use some happy thoughts and prayers our way as well. Angelina was spending the night at her girlfriend's house when she received a call about 1:15 this morning that her friend Ryan, who is in the photo below with Angelina, was in a boating accident last night and drowned. Angelina called me right away, and had me bring her home, as she was so upset. It took Hazel and I over an hour to get her to calm down. I put Angelina in bed with Hazel and I tried falling back to sleep myself, but to no avail. Hazel and I have known Ryan's mom since she was just a kid. Both of Ryan's parents are deaf and they relied so much on Ryan as he would always sign for them. Ryan also has two younger sisters, please remember this family in your thoughts and prayers as well. Ryan just graduated from high school this past June, he was getting ready to start at our local community college this coming Tuesday. The photo below was taken in October 2005 as Angelina and Ryan we heading off for their Homecoming Dance.

How awful...
... by way of comparison - I've had a broken hip (not as bad as it sounds) put back together with surgery - and my brother had a torn up knee from skiing and had orthoscopic surgery to fix. After surgery his repaired knee became stronger than his normal knee. SO surgery is not always a bad thing.
What exactly is the "terrible" injury if ya don't mind floating the issue. Or if you prefer - a PM might be better. Or if you'd rather not say - then I do understand entirely.
Aside from that - a casting and wait aproach sounds like the injury is suspected as the sort that can heal itself as is. If so then that's a pretty fortunate thing.
Either way - may I offer our hopes and prayers for the best possible outcome for your daughter. Plus a bit of symbolic pixie dust! :wizard:

Andy...
.. I am so very sorry for your family's friend Ryan. When I was a kid my best friend drowned in his family pool when he tried to rescue his brother who had fallen into the pool retriving a ball. They both passed on. Inside the house a baby sitter was watching TV! I was so sad then. AND... I almost drowned in my parents' pool too. I actually passed out but was rescued by one of my brothers. So I know first hand what a "near drowning" is like.
May I respectfully offer prayers and hopes for your family as well as Ryans' family.

So ...
... on a side note... the photovaltic array we were set to do - we've decided to delay a bit. In mondays' USA Today there was a big article saying the material cost would drop by half in 3 years due to economies of scale and new technologies coming to market. Plus we were awaiting Congressional action on the federal tax credit increase proposed. We will wait for THAT to pass as it is rumored to be double or more then the current $2000. And THAT kind of increase would offset any marginal loss in California rebate as it steps down in scale. AND... we've found a couple of new companies locally who we want to interview... AND we have a solar energy convention coming to town in mid september (Long Beach) which we want to attend before we make any further decisions.
AND as for the Cabana - which I am itching to build. Well... we were thinking of just building a fully permited - and hence LARGER cabana which could support the proposed solar array. So for the moment - this project is linked to the photovalteic proposal. I am not 100% tied up on this approach - and may go ahead with the cabana though as it can be made to accept an array in the future and get built now.
So many things to do. So many angles to cover before we proceed.

Thanks CC, I just went and read an article online from our local newspaper. It appears as though three of Ryan's friends were on a 17 foot boat that got stuck on a sandbar in the Delaware River, they called Ryan on his cell phone and asked if he could come help them. Ryan was caught by an underwater current that took him under around 8:55 last night. About 9:10 last night several of the rescue boats and trucks went by our house heading to the river, of course we didn't know what was going on at the time. From what I have read, Ryan's body is still missing. My prayer is that somehow he managed to get shore farther down river.

I'm about to turn in now... tough for me to adjust even though the kids are asleep somewhat early and I have to get the kids to school early. Anyways - I see according to your local news there remains some hope. Miracles do happen... maybe one will come to visit for Ryan tonite.
At any rate - I was watching a DVR'd copy of SNAKES ON A PLANE. What a campy movie! Now I know why its' such an underground hit. I could not watch the whole thing as it was pretty silly and I'm getting too tired to stay up any longer.
I'll say a prayer for Ryan and hope for the best in the morning. TImes like this sometimes the best we hope and pray for is not enough... and somethings amazing things happen. Either way, caring and comforting the survivors is the next most important thing. I don't know what to say...
It's late - please pardon my late nite rambling.

:grouphug: So sorry. My DH lost his mom to cancer 6 years ago. We drove down to see her a few weeks before but his Brother and SIL decided to keep him in the dark when Hospice moved in. (long story) He felt that he missed some good time with her as had he known how really ill she was, he would've stayed there with her. The good thing was the hospice she had was wonderful. Kept a diary of her last days thoughts etc and gave it to the family
after she passed
So you're an Aug birthday as well? I will be having my 59th before the cruise:eek: WE should all have a big party . What do ya think?

Motorists Furious Over $4.50 Gas Near Orlando International Airport
Messages, Curse Words Written On Pumps
POSTED: 6:35 am EDT August 30, 2007
UPDATED: 9:22 am EDT August 30, 2007
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Some outraged motorists have scrawled warning messages and curse words on gas pumps after paying up to $4.50 for a gallon for gasoline at a station near Orlando International Airport.
Residents and tourists said they were shocked to see the gas prices at the Landing Strip gas station located on Semoran Boulevard, just north of the airport.
"I didn't even look until I pulled up and I went, 'Holy cow,'" driver Julie Melser said.
There are no signs advertising the high prices at the station.
"So, what do you think about (the high prices)?" WKMG reporter Tony Pipitone asked.
"We're leaving is what we think about it," a motorist said.
Some people improvise after noticing the gas prices.
"I've already swiped my card so I'm getting $1 and I'm out of here," driver Dave Emerick said. "I'll try to make it to the next (gas station). This is ridiculous."
WKMG asked station manager Bob Barnes how he can get away with charging the prices when other gas stations are charging $2.60 or $2.70 a gallon.
"Well, mainly it is volume," Barnes said. "As you can see, the pumps are practically full. Everybody knows what the price is because they have to hit the little lever and they see the price above the lever. And that is how you get away with it."
The Landing Strip is the closest gas station to Hertz and Thrifty car rental returns and the last pumps before the airport.
"It seems like corporate greed," motorist Mark Ferguson said. "Wow, this is just a classic rip-off."
The high prices are not illegal since the state says businesses can charge whatever the market bears for gasoline, unless the governor has declared an emergency.
And, gas stations are not required to erect gas signs showing how much customers will pay, the report said.
Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.

I called directly to try to change my reservation I already had -but they said I had to call 3hrs later. The guy told me the same thing I read on the thread- that it was limited dates/etc. Even when I told him that I could reserve it online with the code for the discount rate- he said to change my reservation I'd have to call 3hrs later. So I just went ahead and booked it online and I'll cancel my other reservation. I got the same room (which shows should be in the same building according to http://www.hojoanaheim.com/pdf/room_layouts.pdf ) and my original reservation was cheap already ($71.20) but now it's $54 per night! I used the code, thanks so much for showing the link to that thread- I would have missed it! I also went on ebay and purchased the ent. book card for $6.99 (including shipping) So basically I'm saving $17.20 per night (minus $6.99 for the 2008 card). Awesome!
About the article-I read it and I agree with the parents. I understand the school's position on wanting to keep the children safe, I just don't think denying the parent's rights to get their child from school should be the way they cover their butts. And that's basically what this is about. It's easily solved. As I said- here the school has us sign waivers at the beginning of the year saying that we understand our children are our liability once off school property OR once checked out by a parent or otherwise noted approved person to pick the child up (which we have to put in writing on their card, every year, who can pick them up besides ourselves). I don't think it's right to keep people's children, against their will, citing it's for the kids safety. The parents should have ultimate say when it comes to their children. The school should only be liable when the parent is not there (as it is obvious that the reason they are having this "issue" is because of a child that rode a bike home- that wasn't an issue of a parent picking up a child and then injured! It would obviously be an easy thing to just have parents sign a waiver that they understand that in the case of a storm such as this- that they would have to pick up their child and as such at that point the school would be no longer liable for the child. In other words children wouldn't be allowed to walk, ride bike, etc. from the school, on their own, in a storm like this- but it's WRONG imo to keep a parent from picking up their child. And quite frankly if the storm is bad enough for them to behave in this way- do they think they were doing the families any favors by having them sit outside in a line, in vehicles, blocking traffic for a mile/etc. for hours? The answer to that is no. It's just wrong!)

OmG that's horrible. Poor Angelina. :(
It's so hard to deal with something like this at her age. The first time I'd ever lost a friend (meaning other than old relatives like grandparents/etc. which was hard too- but you know... it seemed more expected since they were elderly and they weren't a surprise either... they passed when I was younger-not a teen- and were suffering various illnesses before they passed) was when I was a senior in highschool and unfortunately it was a similar situation. He died on mother's day when they were at a lake- drowned due to undercurrent/undertow. :( So hard to deal with something you know, that is your age, passing unexpectedly in such a way. :( :(
Praying for Angelina, and his family too ofcourse. He was such a handsome young man and obviously a good person. :sad1:

I used the code, thanks so much for showing the link to that thread- I would have missed it! I also went on ebay and purchased the ent. book card for $6.99 (including shipping) So basically I'm saving $17.20 per night (minus $6.99 for the 2008 card). Awesome!
It isn't working for me.:sad1:

Motorists Furious Over $4.50 Gas Near Orlando International Airport
Messages, Curse Words Written On Pumps
That's the station by the Cracker Barrel. We accidently stopped there back in 2000 and never went there again.... Guess they continued to rip everyone off... If you go an additional mile up on the left there are cheaper normal priced stations (a chevron).
When we come from WDW we just gas up at the hess on 536 and international drive (The tank still reads full by the airport).

Andy I'm so very sorry. The picture brought tears to my eyes as Ryan looks so much like a very dear friend of mine named Eric who was killed in a car accident just a few years after we graduated from high school. I remember feeling so angry and confused that someone so young and full of promise had been taken away from us. It is just heartbreaking and I know Angelina is going to have some tough days ahead but she is very blessed to have you and Hazel to love and support her.
I will keep your family and Ryan's family in my prayers.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers. We are waiting for the next news report that is coming on at 11am for the latest information. Angelina woke up a little bit ago, I asked her if she wanted to go down by the river, but she said that would be too hard on her, so we will stay here and wait for any word on Ryan.

The air and surface search was called off at 2am, the dive team is coming in at 8am to start an underwater search. I am watching the local news, and it is not looking good at this point, but like you said, miracles do happen, and that is what the family is holding onto at this point in time. I'm happy Angelina was finally able to get to sleep, unlike me. I already called and took a vacation day from work today, I want to be here when Angelina wakes up.
Andy, Please let Angelina know that she, her school mates and all of the families are in our thoughts and prayer. That is such a loss to have to endure at her young age. Lois

Jack
Sending pixie dust!! I'm curious, too.... At this time, I'm waiting for word from my orthopedic surgeon's office that hopefully my insurance company will approve the surgery I'll be having on my feet. It looks like if all goes according to plan, the surgery will be sometime the week of Sept 10th.
We'll do the left foot, and then after it's all healed (which won't be until just before Thanksgiving) we'll do the right one. Although I may put off the right one until after the New Year. because we have a cruise coming up at Christmastime.
Hoping that what the doctors are doing for your daughter will be successful!!!

I arrived home a little bit ago from taking a drive down by the river. I know there wasn't much I could do there, but I did get out of the car and said a short prayer for Ryan. Even with so many people there, I felt so all alone.
I saw two rescue boats still searching the banks of the river.
Now I know this might sound a bit crazy, but I had a conversation with Ryan and said to him, "Ryan, this is pops speaking, you need to surface for your family's sake, they are hurting real bad, and I know you wouldn't want that for them."
An article was written in the high school newspaper during the past school year about Ryan and the struggle his family has been through. I am attaching a link to the paper and the article's title is "Lewis Will Sign to Help Others" the page might take a minute or two to load, but the story is on page #3. http://www.venisegrossmann.com/English/Talon%20PDFs/06-07/Jan07.pdf
What is not in this article is the fact that Ryan's family had been apart because of financial problems, and they were going to be moving into their own house this coming Saturday and be one united family again. Sadly, it looks as though one chair at the table, will be empty.

Amazing what you can get done with a week of nothing but Household chores !!!

I think we must have 100 days of house chores backlogged! Most of which has to be supervised by my spouse. All of the outside chores are mine - or rather 99 days of it are - and one days worth are the spouses'. I think its' time we hired a bunch of help or entered our name for one of those reality cable shows where they do rennovations or remodels on people homes! ONly I must decline on that switching places show! I'm not ready to have untrained and potentially untraditional folks inside my door with a remodeling bidget!

Jack
Jack so sorry to hear about your DD's foot. I hope the cast does the trick & she does not have to endure any long term treatments. :wizard:
Tracy
Tracy I am so sorry to hear about your mother! I wish you all the best during such a difficult time!
We are going on the repo trip in 08 too. Sorry to hear about your loss. My dad is very ill but booked for the trip with us. We are all hoping he will be with us on the trip, but will insist that my mom go with us no matter what. God bless you.
Sending good thought your way for your Dad & praying that he will be well enough to join us on the cruise! :wizard:
I
I haven't been on for awhile (anyone notice? :)
I missed you BIP! ;) :goodvibes
Who is fooling who??:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
If I win you get commission, if I loose I sue the agent for the chinese fortune cookie factory! for £4.5million.
If you win and I get a percentage ( 5% of £4.5million is £225,000 unless the govt. with-holds some of the proceeds for taxes... ) then we have a deal! If you lose and you pursue the fortune cookie manufacturer for the losses of £4.5 million then that works for me too. Just so long as I remain officially .... INNOCENT! Now ... unofficially.... it's another story I imagine with some....
Oh yeah.... did I mention I have a fortune telling posting fee? It's 90% of proceeds on any lottery winnings realized from any foretelling provided with my account. Its' in the small invisible print that's about to be edited IN on the original posting IF you win! So I guess YOUR net proceeds are gonna be £225,000 after all? :lmao:
OK.... now just because I'm an honest "Joe" I'm gonna revise these "New York minute" terms.... and just propose an even split. I'll take 2.5 million quid and donate funds sufficient to pay for HALF of everyones' cabin cost on their first 2 PAX.... excluding port and taxes + any future tax adjustments that may arise. Plus I limit my contribution per cabin to $3,000 to make my gift somewhat "uniform". That leaves the other HALF of my sample donation open to another volunteer to step forward... if there are any out there...? :confused3

Hi all ...
Just a note to let you all know that they released the prices for Adventure by Disney for 2008. Adult prices for August (peak season) for both of the California adventures are $2,399 for adults and $2,159 for children under 12 at time of travel. These prices include the early booking discount. Without the early booking discount, the prices are $2,999 per adult and $2,699 per child under 12 at time of travel.
If you want to use DVC points for the trip, I can tell you that the point value for Backstage Magic with the early booking discount is 348 points per adult. I don't know the childrens rate, or the rate without the early booking!

Andy: Thanks for sharing article. I may not have known him personally but feel like I know him now through that article. I believe everything happens for a reason, we just aren't suppose to understand those reasons. When something like this happens it's so hard not to ask why?
I pray your family and Ryan's family get the closeure they need. Still hoping they find him o.k
Andy, I'm sitting here crying... And, I too believe there is a greater good to be found somewhere, sometime.
Here's my story: When I was 17 my 9 y/o brother died very unexpecetedly in the operating room at CHoP. He was having a biopsy for a newly diagnosed cancer. Devastating does not begin to describe the impact on our family. As a mother now, I don't know how my Mother ever got out of bed the next day. To further compound this pain, my brother was a twin. His twin brother is coming on this cruise with us.
When I was about 35 I needed to have surgery as part of an infertility treatment. As routine, the anesthesiologist was questioning me prior to the surgery. I told her the story about my brother who died in the OR at CHoP. I could hardly believe my ears when she told me that my brother's case became a landmark case in anesthesia. It seems that the anesthesiologist that did my brothers case was so distraught that my brother crashed in the OR that he began researching what went wrong. Based on my brothers death, children with mediastinal tumors are anesthestized on their side instead of their back.
I told my Mother that story and truely, honestly, a little weight lifted from her that day.

Wow I am truly moved by your story.

I have to wonder ...
... as when we were younger we had an older cousin who lost a child to a misdiagnosis/or conservative diagnosis on a condition that snowballed into an acute problem (the technical name eludes me now). Anyways - the family (our cousin) paid over a 100K in cash to airlift thier son from Honolulu to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles where those in California gathered. [edited] That was a LOT of money back then. I've seen some folks make serious career changes/adjustments as a result to try and help folks rather than just make max $.
I've gotta watch the steak I cooking. I got ripped off as the whole back side of the cut is sort of undesirable. I might have returned it if not for he kids being so hungry. SO I am sort of cooking it in an unorthodox way.... gotta go check on it...

Thanks again one and all for your words of comfort and support for all concerned. This has been a very long day to say the least. After dinner I took Angelina to Shaun's house so she could spend a few hours with him this evening. Shaun graduated with Ryan in June, and knew Ryan well.
I think I am going to sign off for the night and try to get some rest, of course I won't be going to sleep until I know my baby girl is home safe and sound.
Try to get some rest Andy. Give her a big hug when she gets home.

So ...
...things came out ok with the cooking. The kids ate so much (must be a simultaneous growth spurt) that I've hardly anything left for me. I'll just turn in hungry (better for me probably) ... or I'll heat a little left overs.
I ended up carving away almost a quarter of the cut - the entire side facing down was a layer of fat... well about 65% of the SURFACE facing down in the PACKAGE was fat varying from a quarter to 3/4" in thickness. I was apalled.. but when I checked the other cut it was just fine. So of the total between both cuts it was maybe 10% carvable fat.
And so - I got a few minutes before I get the kids ready for bed.
Hope folks are doing OK tonight. The last couple of days seemed to be unusually active with challenging and sometimes sad events. I feel again without proper words for how I feel ... almost in limbo in some ways. Kno what I mean?
cheers,

So, in the good news department, the office manager (who I've already interviewed with) and I are trying to convince the two principal architects at her firm that they should take a chance on me & let me help them with their accounting...
We've won over one of the principals & she's working on the other one. I've come up with some good arguements for her to use & I'm optimistic that within a month I wlll be better situated. Either I'll be making enough money to actually support the 3 of us OR I'll be making enough money to scrape by and I'll have 4 weeks of vacation a year. Either way would be fine with me.

It isn't working for me.:sad1:
What in the world? I wonder why???
It's still showing rates..... Did you put SD50 in the promo rate?
I see certain catagories are no longer available though...
I may stay on-site through DVC points but right now i have tentatively put a ressie in for 3 nights in a NQQ2....
So Building 2 for me if i stay there.... It is a sweet rate though...
I was able to get NQQ3- the same thing I had already booked... in building one. When I booked it online -it did say "highway side" though. I have no idea what side I would have been on anyway. But that's the building I want to be in- it's near the things I want to be near and a tiny bit less walking to DL. :)
DJ did you try emailing Willie? I saw a few of the other posters on that thread did it that way.
BIP, you did get the 2008 card?
I bought it on ebay- yesterday. I haven't received it yet.
I called and spoke to Jennifer. She said they haven't released on discounts for next summer yet.
I'll try emailing or calling Willie.
The guy I talked to (that told me to call back 3hrs later) also gave me the spiel (also mentioned on that thread about this code discount) about how they aren't doing next summer yet and only having certain dates/etc. But I booked it online and already have the confirmation and everything. So I don't get it...
So sad. :( Breaks me heart.
I had a cousin (adult cousin but with 3 young children) that drowned 5yrs ago. We just had a family get together/memorial type thing this past Sunday. He is missed by many. It's hard... for everyone.
I'll read the article after I post this.

The photo below was taken in October 2005 as Angelina and Ryan we heading off for their Homecoming Dance

Arlene it was a blip on our news, but I didn't watch it. And Jay Leno (I think it was him) made a joke about it tonight on his show saying something that high prices should be inside WDW not outside of it. I have to agree that a $2+/- gross profit on a gallon of gas is excessive--I struggle to get 10-12c. I guess he is just keeping up with what the rentals companies charge is you don't prepay or bring it back full.:scared1: That is true about pricing--it is only in effect when your state is in a state of emergency.

Ah, I see. I booked Mon-Sun also. Although I may end up shortening that later- I'm sure at the moment. I would LIKE to go that early- just me and the kids... and have lots of time since it will probably be our only time (ever) to go to DL. And Jeff could fly in later (work that week and fly in on Friday). But we'll see how finances are at that time and whether or not we can afford to do that -or not.
I need some pixie dust! DH hasn't been getting overtime lately and that makes his checks HALF what they are when he gets overtime. Makes things hard to save up for the TOAL! That's for sure...

True about pricing. But in most cases the gas stations compete against one another and that keeps the pricing "sorta" in check... atleast you don't usually get one that is charging way more than others nearby. Maybe they'll change their minds when tons of people pass right on by and get their gas cheaper elsewhere...
I can't wait to see pictures when they get back home:)

Well, we weren't selling beer TO the Cub Scouts :rotfl: .
Actually, we kept our affiliation hush-hush because selling alcohol is not really in keeping with Scouting (and now that I am committee chair for our Troop, I have to be careful of such things). The Jaycees run a 'beer tent' and organizations send volunteers and you get a cut of the sales based on the number of people you provide and hours worked.
But the group did get free beer at the end of the night.

Well... then he needs to work on his mannerisms! No need getting mad that someone else can do his "job" better than him. He needs to get INTO that character. hehe
At the P&P party last week i found it odd that Disney broke rule #1 about not having a character be two places at once.....
Seems they had a Capt doing private picture audiences in Adventureland and he was in the parade at the same time. (We had just come from pics and then watched part of the parade as went from Liberty Square to in front of the castle.
The guy who did the private pics did a great job. My DH thought he talked to fast though and i found his comments so obscure...so Jack-like.....
So, in the good news department, the office manager (who I've already interviewed with) and I are trying to convince the two principal architects at her firm that they should take a chance on me & let me help them with their accounting...
Sure you want to work with architects? They're a strange bunch....
(DH is in architecture and i have many friends in the profession too.)
I was able to get NQQ3- the same thing I had already booked... in building one. When I booked it online -it did say "highway side" though. I have no idea what side I would have been on anyway. But that's the building I want to be in- it's near the things I want to be near and a tiny bit less walking to DL. :)
I wanted building 1 too but didn't like the layout of the NQQ3's as much and that whole HIGHWAY thing was disconcerting....
It's really not that much further and hey, the more walking the better.....
Got make room for mickey bars and chocolate souffle.... (Insert former mickey bar smiley here. Guess the DIS deleted it cause someone felt the need to add 10 billion stupid wish smiles.)
Guess it's a mute point for now.... Seems that rate code doesn't work anymore... Guess we took all that availability...

Hi everyone!
Happy birthdays to those I missed the last few days. :cake: My sympathy to Winotracy and her family and Andy and his family and friends. :sad2:
It's been a busy week here, but things are starting to wind down. Hopefully, I'll be able to chat a while tonight!
I think the weekend is going to be pretty nice here. We only have some lessons Saturday morning (DS8's Karate & my hammered dulcimer lesson) and a party on Sunday. The rest of the weekend is open and I am hoping to be able to take DS to the pool one last time before they close it for the year. Maybe I'll even get the house cleaned also!:laundy:
I completely agree. I don't see how it's legal to keep the children from their parents. Usually once the parents pick up child or sign them out (even during a normal school day for whatever reason) the school is no longer liable for that child. So I don't get refusing to allow the children to leave with their parents- after all, the parents are the ones ultimately in charge of their child's welfare- as it should be. I cannot even imagine the mayhem that would happen if they kept the kids inside here like that. I don't even want to imagine that...
I totally agree! I've heard an even weirder story from a friend here - we had HUGE storms last Thursday which included a couple tornados, high winds and a lot of damage. I certainly understand the schools locking down the kids during this storm - the weirdness is that one school also locked down parents! It was the time the school normally lets out and a lot of parents were there to pickup their kids. They herded them all to the library (where they expected to line up to sign out their kids) and then LOCKED THEM IN!!! They were not allowed to leave and they were not with their children. The kids weren't even told their parents were there, so some of them were panicking that their mom or dad must be outside the school waiting for them in the storm. How crazy is that! I could see telling parents that they "could" take shelter in the library, but LOCKING them into the room seems totally crazy.

Just an update. They kept them in on Wed. as well but for only 30 min. Caused her to be late for Soccer etc. But this is the interesting and frustrating part. She had a talk with the nurse on Monday. Detailing Moragans medical condition which she said she was well aware of as her dog had it:confused3 We didn't know it was something dogs had. Anyway she said we are aware of condition blah blah.... You can leave the injectable here for the paramedics if they need it, but I am gone when the school day is over. So this means they are aware of his situation but should they have another lockdown after hours, it seems the whole process breaks down as no one would be able to get his info or the meds, but the nurse.Privacy etc.... So she still is back to square one. Now should she allow him to carry his oral meds with him unbeknown to the school in case this does arise?None of the schools so far have allowed this. The nurse has to have them in her office.(see above)If he gets caught it really means trouble as it is against policy and can result in his suspension. Or will she go to the school board and maybe get an attorney involved.( Again she never should have moved. ARRRRGH The fire stations here all carried the meds for the 2 kids and were so accomodating they even had a conference call with the dr to learn more about the condition.)
The only good thing as far as he is concerned is she is now letting him carry an old cell phone to school each day now as she just got so disgusted after speaking to the school and not getting an answer as to why they didn't let the kids call home.
I'm getting off my soapbox now and really need to get out of the house to return my Mammogram films and drop off his car payment........

I have a question for all you camera-smart people here!
My current digital camera is a Canon Powershot A80 which is a few years old, but handles all my point-n-shoot needs and I have an underwater case for it that is great for cruises and snorkeling. However, I'm still dreaming of getting a digital SLR. My DH and I both have OLD Canon AE-1 film cameras that we occasionally dig out and use -but I have become so addicted to digital, those times are getting less and less frequent.
I want to put a D-SLR on my wish list for this christmas (in hopes DH will get it for me or maybe get my parents to go in with him for a joint gift) and I am having trouble telling the difference between the different models. I think I want to stick with Canon - my current camera is a canon, my old SLR and even my digital video camera (Elura 100) is a Canon. Also, they all use CF memory cards which is the same as my current camera. Since I expect to be using both my Powershot and the new camera I would like them to have the same memory card type.
It looks like there are 4 different models that are within a price range that there is "hope" I might get (There isn't much point asking for a camera that costs thousands with a TOAL to be paid for also!) As you can see, there is quite a price range among these 4.
Digital Rebel XT - $500-$600
Digital Rebel XTi - $700-$800
EOS 30D - $1000-$1300
EOS 40D - $1300-$1500
What are the main, big differences between these cameras? I know some of it is 8 vs 10 megapixels, but I don't think I'm that concerned with that. I rarely print anything larger than 8x10. I do often crop so having some extra pixel depth for that is good.
Obviously, I am not a pro and probably don't even qualify as pro-sumer. I currently take about 2000 photos per year (goes up each year, so I'll probably be approaching 3000/year soon!) However, I also am not a novice who has never used anything but point-n-click. Before digital, I used my AE-1 a lot - enough that DH and I have 6 or 7 lenses, a couple tripods, an external flash, etc. I enjoy playing around with my camera and trying different stuff. I managed to take some pretty good long-exposure shots of our house with xmas lights last year with just my Powershot A80!
I am assuming that my old AE-1 lenses won't work with any of these, so to start with I would just have the lens that came with the body.
Sorry for being so long winded here - the crux of it is, does anyone have any insight into the difference between these cameras and which one might be right for me?

I have a question for all you camera-smart people here!
I don't have anything specific to recommend (since we're Nikon people), but I would copy this whole post & put it on the photography board - they're all really helpful with this kind of stuff.
Good Luck & I hope your DH thinks you were good for Christmas!

Pamela, my DH has the Rebel XT. I got it for him last year for Father's Day - unfortunately not long after we bought it the XTi came out and he would rather have that one due to some enhancements that it has. However, he does like the XT and it will be coming on the TOAL with us next year.

Just got an email from Chris/Grandmax3 . They are on Castaway Cay (along with the rest of us lol) and we will be meeting up tomorrow for lunch along with Monica and her DM. The weather today in Nassau is 90 and mostly cloudy. Hopefully they had a good day. I'm excited about hearing about the trip.:goodvibes She complained about the internet being soooo slow. Hope they get it worked out before next year. I can just imagine the rush to get packed tonight. I remember what a pain it was for 4 days and can't imagine 15.
Hope to see y'all in chat.

I currently take about 2000 photos per year (goes up each year, so I'll probably be approaching 3000/year soon!) Pamela (pdarrah)
NOt sure how much time I have to post -
But I'll take a swing at this. Here's the short answer ... a or a series of short remarks:
The DSLRs sem to come out every 18 months with Canon with the latest model proclaimed as "greatest" while yesterdays fades to obsolence. NONSENSE.... th recently discontinued model is pretty darn good and now a potential bargain.
That said... these are the basic considerations of significsnce to me...
40D .... http://www.dpreview.com/previews/canoneos40d/ newly introduced and the model I am lusting after. It is a baby version of thier top of the line 1D Mk3 ($5000 and much heavier). Shutter design life 100,000 actuations, fps 6.5/3 (selectable) with a large 85 frame buffer, semi-water sealed, 10.1 MP sensor with a 1.6 crop and anti-dust mechanism (!!!), max ISO boosted is 3200 with rumored improvements in noise control, digic 3 IC, magnesium body. 9 point focus system uses 9 cross pattern focus points and is rumored to be nearly as effective as the new 1D Mk3, plus 14 bit color depth<4x greater color palet compared to 12 bit>, $1299 with an expected drop to $1000 or sub $1000 a month after this Christmas (body only).. based on past pricing history of thier DSLRs. So why get a $5000 1D Mk3? .... there are reasons but none are very compelling to me.
30D .... http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos30d/ currently available on ebay refurb at $750 (!!!) and new near $800. Differences to a 40D.... 8MP sensor... digic 2 <yawn... but digic 3 is more powerful allowing biger buffer and suppposedly speed> .... not water sealed at all.... same shutter life but no dust reduction for the sensor. So you have to be very careful swapping lenses. 9 point focus system has one cross sensor.... 12 bit color depth <1/4 the color pallet.... still nearly indiscernable to the untrained eye.>.... beautiful noiseless images up to ISO 1600 .. the 40D should be better and probably undiscernable to the untrained eye ... even under moderate magnification or cropping.
XTi - http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos400d/ I am less familiar with since I never looked at it closely .... but off hand I think its' a raging bargain. Smaller Polycarbonate body on a stainless steel chassis, very light and small, 10.1 MP sensor is higher resolution than the 30D... and it features a dust reduction device with anti-static coatings like the 40D and 1D Mk3, buffer is 27 frames and it has the same 9 point focus system as the 30D. So in many ways it is the same or BETTER than a 30D... and cheaper in general. However, it is not an all magnesium body and not full sized. The 30D feels better to me and has the 100,000 actuation shutter life. The XTi supposedly has an unrated lifespan from the manufacturer - however some folks say it seems to last about 35,000 actuations on AVERAGE as reported by folks on the web. I shoot a LOT.... and would prefer to invest in a durable shutter. AND... the XTi (and XT) have a max sensitivity of ISO 1600 and a usable sensitivity of 400 ... maybe 800. Whereas the 30D has a usable 1600 and flawless ISO 800 speed.
The XT http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos350d/ is the 8MP older version of the XTi. If you're looking for a used or ebay bargain... I imagine you'd find one in this if you can find it. I think it is possible without too much trouble... and it would make an excellent camera. NO anti-dust design ... but maximum value for the dollar... a close copetitior to getting a 30D used IMO. Consider.... 6.5 years ago I paid $900 for body alone on a Canon G1... 3MP point and shoot! 3 years later I bought another G1 used on ebay for $150! And less than 2 years after I bought my Digital Rebel for $900 I sold it on ebay for $490! AND.... as already mentioned (ANDREW.... yes I am prone to ocasional repettition) the 10D I bought was recently replaced by the 20D and about 2.5 years old.... originally $2100 but averaged $1500 in cost .... and I bought it for $590!
So which would I choose? GO to a near by store and see if the handling qualities and fit in the hand make any diference to you. Consider the heft of the magnesium bodies versus the XT series. Search ebay for pricing history (30 day) and see if one is a much better deal suited to your taste in risk. I sold my old Digital Rebel for $490 and immediately bought the 0D for $590. The 10D had an original MSRP of $2100 with a $1500 street price. I was happy to spend the extra $100 for my 10D off ebay (used). I was ... lucky. I suspect truly used DsLR equipment on ebay should be .. avoided. Ya never kno... kno what I mean? There are sooooo many potential problems that can arise with a DSLR.... and getting one cheaper and used on ebay is not the best idea IMO. However.... I sold my 300D and bought my 10D plus a G1 used on ebay ... and was lucky.
SO... of greater concern is which lenses will you want? You already have some I take it... and your lens kit will endure with you through (potentially) several bodies. Plus the flash gun you get will endure with you too. Except mine is now due for upgrading if I get a 40D. It has TTL2 capabilities which my current flash cannot sync with. Still usable - but less precise.
If I were you - and without knowing anything more than what you've said already ... I would either spring for a 40D after the price drops close to $1000 body alone.. assumed to be soon after Christmas. Otherwise if the magnesium body is preferable to you but cost an issue - then a 30D is a fine choice = and I would do the refurb for $750 of ebay. In fact I very nearly bought one of those a few days ago! But changed my mind and decided I would hold out for the 40D when the price drops.
As for the XTi versus XT. I think the XTi is a LOT OF CAMERA for the money. I just don't like the size, polycarbonate body or ... most annoying to me ... the prominant mode dial on top is sort of cheap looking. I can't stand it and I must have a higher quality feel to my DSLR body. Especially if we're spending near $1000 or if our kit in hand (one lense + flash) is worth $2000... then I want a mode dial and handing quality that is befitting and pleasant to work work with.
Alas, some folks love the size, fit in the hand and light weight of the XT series. And I must agree... the merit in such + the cost savings is compelling. I would say for 50% plus of enthusiasts an XT or XTi would exceed their needs for the foreseeable future or half a decade. If you realize shooting output of 3,500 frames a year then it should last you 10 years. HOWEVER... if you're like me and shoot 9-15,000 frames a year.... then the 100,0000 life 30D or 40D is highly desirable over the 35,000 frame estimated life XT/XTi series bodies. I seem to average 11,000 frames a year. Alas... if you were to go with an XT (the 350)... then it is still gonna crush the IQ of any P/S camera with the APS sensor and lightening fast handling qualities! PLUS... you will achieve maximum performance for minimum dollar cost - most likely. AND... between the XT and XTi... I think it was the XT which had a nicer mode dial (choosing between the two).
So... go to a store. Read the reviews from DP review (links imbedded above). Narrow your budget and timing and that should identify your ideal choice. AND may I add... if you are the sort who occasionally has accidents with your equipment ... or if you're simply pretty rough with your equipment... as I am in both cases. Then you may want to buy at BEST BUY or DELL. They sell extended warrenties that cover abuse and accidents (exceot water damage - I think). The one from Best Buy is cheaper I think... 4 years for about $200 ... supposedly. If this feature interests you - check on your own to verify costs and coverage details....don't rely on me 100%.
OK.... I hope that helps. I assume someone else is sure to step forward and contradict me. OK... no one is perfect and I admit to simply trying to be helpful... not necessarily authoratiative or accurate.
Cheers!

Crash - Thank you very much for your camera comments. Your summaries really helped me see the difference in the different cameras.
I think you are correct that I am going to have to go to a store and play with them to get a feel for the differences. Since I have small hands (I'm only 5'3") and I know that weight really affects how much I carry a camera around with me, that may have a real impact on what I want. I currently do not take anywhere near the volume of photos you do. I've been averaging 2000 per year and creeping up a little - might hit 3000 this year or next (with a TOAL!)
It definitely sounds like the XTi is preferable to the XT, so I am at least narrowed down to 3 choices now!
THanks again,

Actually, as long as we are on the camera/photo subject ....
Those of you who shoot a LOT of photos - how do you organize and keep track of your pictures? I currently have about 13,000 files under "My Photos" and it is getting harder and harder to find what I want. Many pictures have multiple files (original, cropped/edited, downsized for email, etc.) so I haven't taken 13,000 photos (YET!)
I have been looking at different software - Picasa doesn't seem powerful enough (although FREE is nice!) and several others I have looked at have pros/cons. I am currently leaning toward a program called IDImager.
I am just curious how others handle this - particularly those who seem to shoot A LOT more photos than I do!

http://www.sjphoto.com/lightroom_boxshot_left.jpg
I've taken near 60,000 digital images. They are broken out losely into files titled by YEAR, MONTH, SUBJECT. I am a painfully simple guy. I tried using photoshop LE and found it confusing and far too elegant for a hack like myself. SO - I just used the FREE utility on the my XP OS notebook... that is ... until I got my new notebook computer. And now that has Picassa. I find that these free tools are like childrens' toys i terms of image manipulation compared to photoshop LE and the full version, Adobe Lightroom or... the "big gun" application (supposedly) Aperature which is only good on a MAC (supposedly).
I recently tooled around with Aperature and downloaded a beta sample of Lightroom - and as such I am in mild envy of these elegant workflow enhancing tools. When I get my 40D I'm going to start shooting in RAW + JPEG mode. My storage needs are going to explode! However, what I'm looking for is the image perfection achievable with RAW images ... plus the recoverable manipulation process. Eventually I'll switch over to just RAW.... that is .... IF I possess enough processing power in my the new notebook computer with Lightroom... the likely choice I'll switch to. I am not ready to go MAC just to process my images.
Aside from that - I am also going to buy an extrenal RAID array with 1TB total - or more. I filled 80MB with the 60,000 images (Actually 50,000or so). SO ... if I go RAW at 10.1 MP versus the 3-6MP JPEG of the 60,000 I already have .... then it's gonna be a certainty I'll exhaust my current storage capacities of 250MB extrenal + 160MB on the notebook - which exist in imperfect DUPLICATE form on these two drives. THE 1TB RAID will of course be divided into 500MB twins. SO.. I am seriously looking at an empty RAID box which I saw today from a local FRYs' electronics. It was $129 and would take 4 drives and includes RAID settings for ZERO and ONE (auto duplicating or single in line storage). Of course, a 4 drive RAID array with the current max drive sizes I know of ... 750MB ... would give me up to 1.5 TB of storage in duplicate!!! AND this is realistic with the free fall price reductions in storage we've seen in recent years.
SO... I thought I would toss in (in temporary conclusion) that I used to store everything on CDRs. Well... a couple of years ago I read warning discussions as to the risk of CDR failure over time. AND ... the delamination risk for CDRs that were written upon by permanent SHARPIE. Well... some of my CDRs were in fact written upon by SHARPIES. I was panic state as I went through and inspected all my CDRs. Which were all made in DUPLICATE! And indeed... a couple of CDRs were damaged and ONE had delaminated. AND the delaminated one was NOT made in duplicate. AND ... as luck would have it - THAT CDR was one that was requested for copies by my sister in law. It had photos of her impromptu wedding reception (yes, impromptu) where I had the ONLY photos in volume of the event. I could only recover some of the photos from her wedding series on the CDR ... and the lost photos were of her reception. SO... all she had now were the live prints I had made and given her. Later I came to realize the duplicate CDR I traditionally made was actually GIVEN to her when I gave her the live prints and enlargements. She apparently misplaced the CDR duplicate which I gave her. oops...
So... if you've got your images on CDRs or DVDRs... then the rated life of cheap no - name CDRs is supposed to be about 25 years on average with good treatment. If you bought the expensive GOLD foil CDRs and took meticulous care of them - then supposedly you have over 75 years of life. AND compare that to negatives and professional quality prints.... with near 100+ years. The endura supreme paper prints I make have a 200 year life as rated by Kodak ... if they are stored in a cool dark place. AND a 100 year life if exhibited under ideal circumstances (I think) in the home. AND... a 5 year life under commercial exhibition conditions which were less then ideal (direct light or sun). NOW THAT is durable!
SO I used duplicate extrenal hard drives to store my collections. I have a 75GB drive which was filled and I have a 250 GB western digital drive which FAILED 3 months after I bought it. Which I recently had repaired. AND I have little confidence in it - so I'll be replacing it some time in the near future with a RAID array. Then I'll wipe it and resell it or ??? or I'll use it as a door stop on our TOAL.
OK... that's enuf for now. Probably way too much by some standards.
TTFN!

Pamela (pdarrah)
I have the Rebel XT -- the XTi came out right after I got the XT, also. :sad2: It took me quite a while to convince dh that I needed a digital SLR.......Since I did have a wonderful Pentax with nice lenses, etc....But, it was FILM! :scared1: :rotfl: :rotfl: We also all have our own P & S digital to keep with us -- dh's is in his truck, mine is in my purse and I don't know where the 2 kids keep theirs. ;) And dh has an underwater P & S since we didn't have good luck with our underwater case for the P & S.
Before I bought mine I went and held several different models that I was considering buying.
You might want to check but, I know some of the lenses for film cameras work with the Rebel XT.

I might add...
... Pamela ... if you start buying lenses, you might want to try and AVOID the EF-S models. The regular EF lenses project a normal image circle for 35mm film ad our APS-C sized sensors use the smaller optical "sweet spot" of the EF lenses... whereas the EF-S lenses see the expected drop off in sharpness and brightness (vignette) on SOME models under certain conditions... wide aperature and extreme focal length (wideest positon typically). Plus ... some day I think the manufacturers may introduce full sized sensors at affordable prices - and THAT will make your EF-S lenses obsolete. SO I think the EF-S lenese are not worth the weight and marginal cost savings. HOWEVER, that said... the kit EF-S lense is a raging bargain for decent performance under normal shooting conditions.
AND - so long as we have no affordable full sized sensor bodies - the EF-S lenses are a reasonable choice - more or less. :confused3
AND if you google for FRED MIRANDA - there are a number of lense reviews created by enthusiasts. I find their comments of some use.

I have no idea BUT, I think on all 3 cruises I have left our sand toys in the master bathroom bathtub... Not on purpose! LOL! I put them there thinking I am going to have time to rinse them of the sand and then put them in our luggage...... I forget them everytime! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I would like to assume Disney recycles them somehow. HOwever... who knows what they do with the things they must find?
Just today I took a load of recycle materials to the local recycler - however his equipment was not working because it was already 98 degrees and over 110 in his procesing "office"... so the LCD displays go opaque (black) and he cannot process anything. Leaving me with tomorrow early morning to bring back my stuff to recycle.

Pamela (pdarrah)
I do subfolders in My Photos first by year, then by topic so:
2006
Disney Cruise
Kids Birthdays
Christmas
Cute Pix (the "misc" category)
2007
Disney and Seaworld
Kids Birthdays
Easter family
and so forth
When I crop/edit, I always save as a different name.
I have the 30D and have been happy with it so far (other than one repair for a frozen shutter)...
The quality has been great and have gotten some great 10x14 even after cropping.

I'd like to hope they recycle, too... I just don't know if I see it. So many of the things that the company does don't fit my image of what it "Should" do that I'm leery of assuming that they're doing the right thing.

We did the same thing when we lived in a PC world... Mac does a lot of this automatically (including reverting to the original file, so that we don't end up with 5 different crops and adjustments).

I think the problem is more that if they did that, some bozo would get hurt on a toy that hadn't been 100% perfect because it was 'used' and would sue Disney. The downside of the culture of victimhood...:rolleyes1
