Does anyone collect charms for the old-fashioned kind of charm bracelet?
I have one and I try to get a charm in every port we're at. (I'm betting Cartagena might be tough) but anyway......the last time the Magic did the Mexican Riviera they saved me a ton of trouble...they had charms that had DCL on one side, and each port on the other.
Just a little tid bit for collectors.
Thanks :thumbsup2
My DH gave me a charm bracelet as my wedding gift, so this will be perfect:cool1:

There have been a few places where I could not find ones with the name of the island on them, so I bought something to "remind" me of that place. So I now have a turtle, a dolphin, a starfish and a seashell with a pearl in it....but I don't remember where I got them!
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
That is true about that part. I can't for the life of me think of the different ones I have. I'll have to get it out tomorrow and plan on taking it Monday to get the charms put on. I do try to avoid the ones with points. I have one or 2 on there that like to poke me!

My mom and her "friend" Walt decided to join us in November on our 4 day cruise to the Bahamas. I just finished placing their ressie online and was able to get them a cabin just two doors down from us. :goodvibes
I told my mom, maybe she and Walt can use this cruise for their Honeymoon...............;) ;) ;)

Now Cheryl...
... heres' something we don't see very often in Southern California. Once in a while a tree falls over of old age around here - but tornado activity is fairly rare! I know his was a few blocks from ya - and as such I hope the collateral effects at your home were not nearly as severe.

Hey look... flying pencils and books - just the thing for "back to School"!
Okay Tom you are truly the master of posting. :worship: :worship: :worship:
Cheryl, I have to admit I don't miss that at all. The one we lived through in Nebraska in 1975 was enough for me.
Take care back there!!
Five years til Florida and counting!!!:woohoo: I hate our weather here!!!:scared:
I'm so glad you are all safe and sound!! Our area went through this same thing all Spring and the first part of Summer long... We were so blessed that nothing bad happened to our home (we don't have basements here).
More bad news about our *hopeful* WDW trip.... Jon has meetings every day from this past week through the next 2 weeks.....concerning the England deal and the new building (a few 100,000 sq ft) that he is in charge of making sure the remodeling is done right and on time -- he is in the process of interviewing comercial contracters and comercial interior designers. We could never have quessed a few weeks ago that he was going to be doing ALL of this!! This is how he is feeling about it all :headache:
Yesterday he came home for lunch (his office is about 7mins away) and spent a few moments looking at the DCL site before going back to work..... And he is working today....next Saturday.....:sad1:
Stepahnie, I will be the one seeing how disappointed Alex will be not seeing Samantha.:sad2: You could manage a weekeend. You need a break from your last vacation!!!:rolleyes1
Those are some amazingly scary pitcures. This morning on the news there was a report showing them sandbagging to hold back potential flooding in Wheeling, IL. Isn't someone from our thread from there - I couldn't remember. I do hope everyone is/stays safe!!!
The water is still rising in our rivers here. I am fortunate enough we do not live near any water. I feel so sorry for all the flooding throughout the country.:sad2:
My mom and her "friend" Walt decided to join us in November on our 4 day cruise to the Bahamas. I just finished placing their ressie online and was able to get them a cabin just two doors down from us. :goodvibes
I told my mom, maybe she and Walt can use this cruise for their Honeymoon............... ;)
Sounds like you could be a best man!!!! I am glad your mom is crusing with you again.:thumbsup2
Cheryl -- glad to hear you are okay. Thanks to these storms, our flight out of MCO was cancelled Thursday and we just got back to Chicago from MIAMI a few hours ago. It's a long story I will tell when I have recovered. Definitely not our most fun Disney vacation ever....

I can't wait to hear what I am heading down for!!! Sounds like you needed tons of pixie dust. :flower3:

Really sorry we missed the meet, especially after what we went through getting home. As you may recall, we chose to end our trip on 8/23 because that was the last day we could find frequent flyer tickets with direct flights to Chicago.
So we left the Yacht Club at 4 on Thursday and went to MCO and hung out for awhile before our 7:00 flight. We went through security around 5:30 and as I pulled my phone back out of my bag, saw the page our flight was cancelled, called AA and they rebooked us on a 7:05PM! flight Friday night. So we had to go claim our bags (so much for the ease of Magical Express) and spend a way-too-expensive night in the Hyatt.
Friday morning, flights were being delayed two hours or more into O'Hare already. I called AA and they told us the chances of getting out were slim. So we rebooked on a flight through Miami leaving MCO at 6AM and then MIA at 8:30 to get to ORD. Then we rented a car and drove to Sea World. Our DS10 got sick in the car on the way to Sea World. Thank goodness we had extra plastic bags in the car for him to get sick into.
Sea World was fun for a while, but huge storms rolled through Friday afternoon and all of the afternoon shows were cancelled. We were in the Polar Bear exhibit when the fire alarms went off and we had to exit out into a torrential thunderstorm. So we felt we wasted $350 on Sea World. We went to the Hilton GV near Sea World for the night, after a stop at Wal-Mart for clean clothes.
We flew to MIA this morning (Saturday) with no issues. They couldn't put the five of us together, so they put me and my son in first class and the other three in coach together. I gave the first class seats to my wife and DD5 so Janie could try to get Rebecca to nap.
Arrived MIA with no problems and grabbed some breakfast and thought our luck was changing. Umm, no. Seated in the very last row of a 757, right next to the toilets (which smelled bad), we pushed away from the gate on time only to be told there was a problem with a motor on the stabilizer. Sat on the plane for 2-1/2 hours, being served only warm water, before being told the plane would not fly. Exited the plane and waited for 30 minutes before they cancelled the flight around 11AM. Called AA and got the five of the last six seats on a 4:30PM flight from MIA to ORD. Sat around MIA for five hours and FINALLY boarded a plane to home.
Luck changed at last -- we were seated together, in business class seats of a 777 (although they were not providing business class service), the plane left on time, arrived on time, and our luggage had beaten us to Chicago.
So 46 hours late, on three different airplanes in three cities and two extra nights in hotels, we're finally home.
So, short story was we could have just planned to stay through tonight and caught the connecting flight through STL and been home at the same time.
As I said to SWMBO last night (after finding out the 705PM flight on Friday did get to ORD around midnight after all), "Every decision we've made has taken us from bad to worse..."

My kids started me on one for Mothers day a few years ago.
Only have 4 charms currently. 2 Lil boys with thier birthstones. My DCL charm with logo on one side and palm tree with castaway cay on the other. And most recently my b-day present from the boys a pair of flipflops.

Hey Lisa--I watched the Empress of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean ship, sailaway from Philly this afternoon. I was on my way to pick Hazel up from her sister's house, and on my way there I saw the ship pulling away from the doc. I stopped alongside the river and got a pic of it with my cam phone. I also saw my boss and his wife there, they are sailing on the Empress the end of September and they came down to the river to get a look at it as it sailed away.
Added photo below of the Empress leaving Philly today. The pic was taken where the ferry used to go between NJ and the Naval Shipyard on the Philly side of the river.

That's very cool. I've been thinking about looking into the cruise that leaves from Philly. It would be so easy with the boys.

... you're embarassing me. I'm just lurking and stalking for good chuckling opportunities. Ya kno... a lot of the time I never find a suitable image to post at all. So - I was lucky to find some good tornado type images to wrangle a few chuckles out. Assuming no one was OFFENDED by the witch in the tree image, that is.
OK... so - I get what ... 40 more seconds at this podium built of "sliced ham"? OK.... I'd like to thank my agent, my producer and director - my spouse Alicia and the kids who tolerate my postings and sit at my elbow as I google for images - and they point to things they want enlarged. AND ... a special thanks to my vast army of image posting folks who supply google with an endless supply of images to rip... er, rather .... feature! <chuckles> And least I forget ... special special thanks to my DOG who has had fewer opportunities for late nite or morning walks on account of the extra moments I've taken to throw on justone more image or posting.

:scared1: I love vacation, but hate to travel

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My nephew is now 1 yr 9 mnths disease free.
Just graduated to MRI's every 6 months instead of every 3 months.
I've been sort of guarded about folks we know who are close to us - who have chronic and often life threatening illnesses. However, having seen so many share modestly about their living on while supporting and hiping fo rhte best for THIER loved ones with chronic illnesses compells me to mantion similar thanks for the good fortune we've had.
I tell you... having some people fall ill to serious things has been a new developement = something we used to NEVER experience. And now that my spouse and I are a little bit older - all of a sudden we're seeing things crop up among folks our age! This has been sort of disturbing in some ways. In other ways it makes me more aware then ever that every day we have is a blessing. Every day is a truly rare and precious thing. SOmething I think we took for granted in prior years.
As a result - I have had knowledge of some folks illnesses where I was asked to maintain silence - and some in our circle of close family friends were NOT on the "in the know" list. SO they would come to me asking about the changes in conduct with some folks. And I was unable to reply directly. In fact, my standard reply has been a cryptic reply that "you should try to leave folks alone for a while. Everyone needws a little space sometimes and this may simply be one of those times. AND.... consider. You should simply try to identify the things that make you happy - and make changes to do or experience as much of what makes you happier."
A lot of folks would take what I said as simple casual banter - and a few listened closely and sort of stared at me and asked "whats' going on". And I would then have to deflect and say something completely different. However, it was obvious I was NOT going to speak any further on the subject.
At any rate - I have been shaken quite severely with some of the things we've experienced in recent years. I've been shaken in ways I've not felt since the days when my Mother passed away some 20+ years ago. At the time I quit going to school and sort of dropped out of existance with my friends to help run the family business and be near or at my mothers side to ensure her care was the best. My Dad is at his core a fellow who was born and raised in China.... and although he's trained as an aerospace engineer .... in matters close to the heart the tragic illness which ultimately took my Mom was sort of punishing for him.
I sometimes think we all face things like this. No one lives forever physically. And everyone has to face it if there's anyone they care for on the planet. So - I am not alone. However - it is one of those things which are very very difficult to encounter and speak of. For my spouse and children all is perfectly well... and for that we are thankful. For any who have any less than a perfect circumstance - I may be intimately familiar with some kinds or tragic threats. And my sympathy is sincere and heart felt.
I'll be wishing the best to all who have mentioned their marking the months of survival. Please know that you are not alone here.

JR...
... in spite of the "interesting" time you had in your recent travels... I want to simply say it is really nice to hear from ya. We really miss ya here. AND ... that said ... I'd like to offer (first) that my spouse sometimes levels these withering glances at me on account of being the "eternal optimist". And with that now said - I want to submit that your travels have not really held wrongful decisions - rather I'd say you've had a curiously memorable adventure. Few can ever claim to consistently make perfect decisions. I for one am far from perfect. Consider... my most recent error is in dispensing advice without proper authority or training...
http://www.dotphoto.com/SAN1/33/97/71/i339771B5-F46A-419A-9E67-91BF03D4AD91.jpg
So... try to turn it around and simply make the best of it. I'm in a pretty philosophical funk tonite. As such - its' time to spare you some of my fluff - you know what I'm saying and might add otherwise. So - I'll just conclude by asking my nickle be sent to the nearest worthy charity or gratuity cup you next encounter.
Cheer up pal... life could be rockier! And if it were "rockier" ... I say cheer up again ... because even then things could get even MORE sticky!

3) Do you have a favorite cold (not hot) dessert? If so - what is it - what flavor(s)?
4) What is the funniest thing that you can recall from this year?
5) What is the strangest thing you can recall from this year?

7) What are you having (or had) for dinner tonight? And does this type of dinner qualify as the sort of thing that one of your "favorites" or "preferred" for a supper?
And remember... the original intent for this is just a bit of an ice breaking thing. No psycoanylitical work is being done in the background. Take the Metro into Crystal City and wander through the underground shopping there...
Air and Space museum on mall is cool for boys (as is the Spy Museum). Even cooler, but requiring a drive is the Air/Space Museum out by Dulles (has a space shuttle).
We just got back from our trip to Myrtle Beach and DC. We stayed at the Courtyard in Crystal City and loved the ability to take the underground mall to the Metro...... Was super due to the high temps Friday and Saturday during our visit. We did the tourmobile on Friday to see the monuments then took the metro to the Smithsonian stop and did Air and Space, Washington Monument and Natural History. We enjoyed our stay and plan on going back and spending much more time.

1) What are your favorite sport(s) or athletic diversion(s) - past or present (not future) that you've engaged in? Competitive swimming, water polo and softball
2) If given the gift of a choice on our PCTOAL ... would you choose a soup to nuts spa extraveganza for everyone in your cabin, or 3 super special private Palo's experiences with the Magics' Captain, and alternately similarly special Disney guests plus free flowing exotic wines and liquors?, or a FREE 2 catagory cabin bump, or ... 4 special surprise shore excursions for everyone in your cabin? Assume the fair dollar value of each option is roughly identical.
That's a tough one. A two category upgrade would put us in the Walt or the Roy...but it wouldn't necessarily be a better move for us....less bathrooms/beds...so I guess that's out. Done the private room at Palo several times...yawn....
Not sure we'd want to be "surprised" on a shore excursion....so I guess that leaves us with a SPA EXTRAVAGANZA!!
3) Do you have a favorite cold dessert? If so - what is it - what flavor(s)?
Cold, as in cold cold, would be Peppermint Stick ice cream. Cold as in "not hot" would be carrot cake.
4) What is the funniest thing that you can recall from this year? Going to have to think about this one some more. Will edit later
5) What is the strangest thing you can recall from this year? More thought needed. Hey...I'm only on my second cup of coffee!
6) Were you SURPRISED to see DISNEY wipe away the $100 fee? AND do you think we had anything to do with it happening? Or would it have happened naturally anyway? I wasn't surprised...I even posted that I thought they'd reverse it once they had a little more time to think on it. I do think, though, to some extent, that their decision was "helped along" by all the letters.
7) What are you having (or had) for dinner tonight? And does this type of dinner qualify as the sort of thing that one of your "favorites" or "preferred" for a supper?
Leftover chicken enchiladas. Definitely not a favorite or else there wouldn't BE leftovers. ;)

1) What are your favorite sport(s) or athletic diversion(s) - past or present (not future) that you've engaged in?[COLOR="Red"]Used to watch Cleveland Indians Baseball and even went to a few games but when we moved away...........i sort of gave it up. Love watching Nascar and my favorite sport is running!
? I would choose without a doubt the spa extravaganza and I think second on my list would be the excursions unless during the Palo thing with the captain I got to blow the ships horn - that would be amazing!
3) Do you have a favorite cold (not hot) dessert? If so - what is it - what flavor(s)?
My favorite cold dessert is plain old chocolate ice cream second to icy cold margaritas!!
4) What is the funniest thing that you can recall from this year? While on a trip to Ohio this past april to visit my parents, my kids and I seen quite a few amish buggies. I am just used to it, I grew up around them so never thought about it much. Ashton my DD8 asked me when we could go on a horse and buggy ride like everyone else. I told her this wasn't DisneyWorld and you could just ride these buggies! I then had to explain to her what it meant to be "Amish". Very funny!!
5) What is the strangest thing you can recall from this year? Being on the ship in Jan. when they opened booking for the TOAL and for the heck of it getting a quote knowing that it would not even be possible and then proceeding to putting a down payment on it. THEN coming home to find out that it was sold out in a day and we actually have a cabin on it - way cool but strange, like it was meant to be!!
6) Were you SURPRISED to see DISNEY wipe away the $100 fee? AND do you think we had anything to do with it happening? Or would it have happened naturally anyway? I was not surprised to see Disney wipe away the $100 fee, I am surprised that it even happened to begin with and yes I do think that we had something to do with it. There is power in numbers especially DIS and Castaway Club members!!
7) What are you having (or had) for dinner tonight? And does this type of dinner qualify as the sort of thing that one of your "favorites" or "preferred" for a supper? We are living on the edge tonight, kids are having Spaghettios and I will have some soup or a salad. DH is gone and I don't usually cook when he is not here - kids prefer spaghettios anyways.

First off- Happy Birthday to Susan and Geffric
I just got back from the grocery store to get the stuff for the girls lunch tomorrow. When I left Bill was cleaning out the garage. When I came back he is literally vacuuming the driveway, and no, it wasn't grass from mowing the lawn either. Our driveway has pebbles mixed in and some has come loose. He is such a neat freak. I am the germ freak but even I have never vacuumed the driveway! :lmao:

I thought I was the only "nut" who used a vaccume cleaner outside the house to clean up stuff I was tired of sweeping up. Depending on what I'm getting I use an outdoor vac or (gulp) an indoor Dyson. However, I've not used mine on the drive way ... yet. It sounds like a good idea though! :thumbsup2
We just got back from a day spent with friends by the pool. It was a long lazy day of pleasant conversation and casual taunts. Now - because of our compressed schedule yesterday we are gonna catch the Underdog showing we missed. Tomorrow we leave town early for another longish ride - this time its' San Luis Obispo.
We're thinking of doing a little 4 nite Carnival cruise out of LA in October. The sailing is only $215.18 per serior citiczen and 235.18 per person under age 55. And the 3rd and 4th PAX run 195.18. So ... my Dad likes these max value no flying mid week cruises. He is gonna spring for 3 of his spouses' recently emigrated siblings plus he's paying our way too! It should really be the other way around and I told him so - as I'd secretly like to hold him off until a more expensive cruise comes along <chuckles> for him to pick up the tab... but if ya think "I'm a cheap skate - you simply have not met my Dad!". At any rate - we're grateful for anything he does. Last friday where my spouse made me dressup for the dinner - well it was a $4000 per table charitable function... or at least our table was $4K.. as some tables were a lot more or less money. So - I guess I should have know I should dress up a little. And a good thing too... as they sell raffle tickets too and - wheras in the past 5 years we have never won ANYTHING ... this time I won a token cash prize, my MIL's brother won a similar token prize ... and a friend of my Dads' on our table won $500! Oh yeah... my Dad also won a nice stainless steel mug too! Who would have figured - zero winnnings year after year - then last friday we had 4 winners!
At any rate - we now may have a 4 nite Carnival cruise plus the 7 nite Costa thing this year. It was unexpected but thats' how its' going now. we might have saved vacation days for Honolulu again at Christmas time - but with the new baby coming in November - and since we're already scheduled to be there - we'll be seeing some of the family gather there. Making a family gathering in Honolulu for Christmas less of a thing to do. Plus the folks with threatened health in Honolulu are having wonderful results from their oncology medication! So - in some ways things are oozing back to a guarded but normal looking condition!
So shortly we'll know the story behind Underdog....

You do know that that is valid grounds for a divorce in 49 states? ;)
I would thump my husband if he took my beloved Dyson outside.
I think 2 of the best inventions on the 21st century are the Magic Eraser and the Dyson. Could not live without either one of them.

Attention! Cruise related!!
Is anyone going to be staying near the port, but not have rooms yet?
My TA is trying to get me a group discount at the Doubletree San Pedro, and it will be time to book in about 2 weeks. Let me know....PM might be best....if you're interested.
I am not sure what we are doing.. DH wants to stay by the sirport at a hotel he can get for free with points and then take the Disney shuttle to the port.. Let me check.. we won't be coming into until Saturday.
Happy News!!!
Took my oldest son (currently 19) to NYC for his 6 month check-up on Thursday. Everything went well, but now we have the official news: his PET and CT were clean. That means five years clean: He's now considered cured!!!

Of course, he said he was cured once they stopped treatments, but I'm one happy momma!

OK... I'll answer my own 7Q "fun" query before I wander off to make a quick dinner before we catch the movie....
Here's something that probably has not been seen in a while...
http://www.dotphoto.com/SAN1/0E/DE/E9/i0EDEE987-E6C9-4641-85BF-D8A0BDB2D818.jpg
1) What are your favorite sport(s) or athletic diversion(s) - past or present (not future) that you've engaged in?
2) If given the gift of a choice on our PCTOAL ... would you choose a soup to nuts spa extraveganza for everyone in your cabin, or 3 super special private Palo's experiences with the Magics' Captain, and alternately similarly special Disney guests plus free flowing exotic wines and liquors?, or a FREE 2 catagory cabin bump, or ... 4 special surprise shore excursions for everyone in your cabin? Assume the fair dollar value of each option is roughly identical.
3) Do you have a favorite cold (not hot) dessert? If so - what is it - what flavor(s)?
4) What is the funniest thing that you can recall from this year?
5) What is the strangest thing you can recall from this year?
6) Were you SURPRISED to see DISNEY wipe away the $100 fee? AND do you think we had anything to do with it happening? Or would it have happened naturally anyway?
7) What are you having (or had) for dinner tonight? And does this type of dinner qualify as the sort of thing that one of your "favorites" or "preferred" for a supper?
And remember... the original intent for this is just a bit of an ice breaking thing. No psycoanylitical work is being done in the background. It's just something for fun! :thumbsup2 Feel free to SKIP any questions where you have no suitable answer. Including skipping ALL of the questions ... < chuckles! >
#1) I used to be an avid bicyclist.... and 2nd behind that was an even spread between tennis and golf. Not that I was any good at either of those skilled diversions.
#2) I think my spouse would take the 2 catagory bump. I on the other hand would take the Palo dinners. As I envisioned having he Captain and a special guest like a DCL exec or a DCL creative type sitting in at the table. I like that kind of stuff.
#3) Creme Brulee - or a huge fresh strawberry pie with lots of whipped cream!
#4) Funniest thing... we were at a Magic show a few months ago - and I approached the magician after the show to ask some questions. While I waited he performed some "close" magic for the gathered crowd. And when he was done I was going to ask about his rates and procedures for hiring him. well - in the process he did that abra-cadabra thing to oull something out of thin air from my ear - and he reached over to my ear and pulled this HUGE POSTCARD. And I thought "HOW ON EARTH did he DO THAT! - I saw his hands had absolutely nothing in them as he approached and he snapped the impossibly large card out of thin air. Everyone was laughing and lightly applauding around me - and only a little later did I learn his pretty assistant had walked behind me shushing everyone watching to keep quiet - as she held the big card just behind me by my ear for the Magiician to reach over sand pretend he had made it appear somehow. I clearly remember the dumbfounded feeling he evoked and the impressed amazement I felt for a few minutes ... thatis until another patron wanted a cardandhis lovely assistant did the same to the other fellow. Then I saw how it was done. My kids and spouse were all smiles as they knew what had been done to me with the MAGIC card! That was truly fun sensation and everyone had a nice chuckle over it!
#5) The strangest thing was having my notebook computer fail exactly as my tech friend suggested. It happened so wuickly - it was both annoying and spooky. And I' have to add another strange but HAPPY circumstance. We made committments to visit my BIL in Boston some time ago - and several months later they announced they were expecting a new baby - with a due date of 3 days before our scheduled visit. I'm sure it was just coincidence - but the thought has crossed my mind how curious the timing turned out to be.
#6) as was previously mentioned I was surprised to see it even develope - and I must confess I was a bit surprised to see them reverse it. I was thinking they would adjust it to the correct amount of difference. AND yes ... I do believe we had a lot to do with bringing about the change. Like... we're the only ones effected... right?
#7) For supper - I'm about to make it. I made chicken noodle soup, cheese bread, and heated some lasagna.
Gotta go now...

We have a new addition to our family~~~
A hamster!!!!!!
DS 7 (Ryan) wanted a hamster for his b-day. Hasnt stopped talking about it since I asked him what he wanted several weeks ago. His birthday isnt really until next Tuesday, but we will be away for the holiday weekend and would have time to go get everything we needed. So DH suggested we get it a little early.
He is soooooooo thrilled!!!
We are very limited with pets. As much as we would love to have a dog or cat or both...the animal loving parents created two highly allergic children. We are testing the limits with the hamster. Its a shorthaired chinese dwarf hamster (kinda looks like a field mouse) so hopefully we wont see a reaction or at least a minor one we can deal with. I really wanted a teddybear hamster(much cuter) but furrier and more prone to cause an allergy reaction. So far so good. It really is fun to watch them.
So now we have a Beta fish and a hamster. Devin is begging for a bird for his birthday (which is over 6 months away).

Tom--Wow another cruise vacaction!
It's just a little one. And the Costa one is very humble in scale and cost. Since things are turning happy for us -we're ready to committ vacation time to it wwhich we were hoarding to use if things were less happy with the health issues floating around amongst the ones we care most for.
And besides - did I mention my Dad wanted to pay my way? I'm never one to refuse a gift - large or small.
So - on another point - we're back from Underdog. And I must say it was very very entertaining. Especially for our kids. They had a tremendous time - up until near the end when the little one decided abruptly she did not like wacthing the parts with the Mean scientist "meanie head". So we walked out and stayed out. My spouse and the older daughter stayed through the whole thing and had lots of laughs and smiles by the end of the flick.
So I can give a cheerful thumbs up to any who have any curiosoty about how Underdog was.

Does anyone know why this cruise is not able to be booked through the Disney cruise line website? Is it already sold out??? I hope not!!
This sailing sold out within a few hours of initially going on sale to the public. Some have said there is no waiting list with DCL... and that cancelations have been denied a transfer to someone like youself wanting to step in to take it over. Some have speculated that the sailing is oversold - thus explaining the absence of a waiting list or of anyone stepping forward to declare they RECENTLY obtained a booking.
So - the prospects are not GENERALLY considered good. Also - some have suspected that IF Disney is denying canceled reservation transfers - then they are looking to recover all cancelations to resell at the top pricing tier later. That seems perfectly logical given the extreme popularity of this particular sailing.
That said - I believe that somehow and somewhere there is a way to do it even now - and without getting dragged over the coals on pricing tier.
Good luck!

AHH!! That is my worst nightmare! I honestly had no clue that this sailing was sold out within hours! Now I feel like an idiot waiting all of this time. Well, actually, the only reason I waited so long is because I wanted to turn 18 so I can book it myself. I already received the approval from my Mom. The itinerary is amazing and the dates are even better. The cruise arrives just a day before I would be starting my sophmore year in college.

Crash is most likely in bed now, although I think he sleeps little and is on these boards a lot.
He is correct this cruise sold out in hours and the demand was similar to the 2004 May 5th release of the 2005 Panama canal frenzy.
I have herd from an 'official' source these cruise was oversold by 30%, now do not panic, those who are on, as DCL does this on many cruises and goes by the statistics of people dropping out for many reasons.
We are still about a year to the cruise and a long way to the final pay up time, so there will be more people dropping out.
Last time in 2005 there were many cancellation at the last minute and from that there was even the odd one or two rooms becoming available in the last few months.
If you really want to be on this cruise cover all your bases, one keep an eye on this thread for people dropping out, two, sign up with a specialist DCL travel agent express your interest and whilst there isn't wait-lists they can keep an eye open for you, three keep looking at the DCL official website and in particularly the time around the 90 day pay up date.
Some people knowing this is a popular cruise put in a reservation, to keep their options open, not realy thinking if they can pay for it, or other commitments, they have until 90 days to choose to cruise or not, other people sadly will have family or health issues and will drop out.
It will work it self out in the end, if anyone has a ressie now they should be OK, if anyone wants to join, its going to be hard, but keep your eyes open, its not impossible.
Its true that DCL will charge increased rates for any new rooms released to cover panama increased costs ( so a Cat 12 will be now $250,000-only joking), but demand being high they can get away with it.

Good Monday morning everyone,
Well it's off to school for the start of another year. I'm not ready for my summer to be over, but the good thing is that I'm that much closer to graduation. This is my last year of actual classes, so I'm looking forward to getting them over.
I enjoyed being able to (mostly) keep up with the thread this summer. I hope to try to keep up with it during school too. I'll definitely be following the rest of the virtual cruise, and will be daydreaming about where we'll be next year while sitting in class!

Too funny that they've already renamed the buildings in anticipation. I wonder if they realize that the entire DIS Board will be lit up with this info?? :lmao: :lmao: Or perhaps they think we wouldn't figure it out..??...
They're obviously preparing for bringing one of the ships to the west coast permanently. But which one?

Too funny that they've already renamed the buildings in anticipation. I wonder if they realize that the entire DIS Board will be lit up with this info?? :lmao: :lmao: Or perhaps they think we wouldn't figure it out..??...
They're obviously preparing for bringing one of the ships to the west coast permanently. But which one?
Stace,
I think they still underestimate the power of the DIS :disrocks: Remember that they didn't think we'd notice the filings with the various ports for the 2008 cruises, and (we think) that our discoveries made them release the dates earlier than they had planned. Then there's the whole Panama Canal Tax structure - I'm pretty sure they didn't expect us to figure that out either.
As for the ships, I keep hearing rumors that the Magic & Wonder are both coming out west & the two new ships will be Carribean ships. Truely, I'd move one of the older ships over here & one of the new ships (outfitted for Alaska). As for the 4th ship's name: Imagination (IMHO).

Nah, Dahn't start that agin... How many days do you get off for Christmas? Not to mention how many vacation days you get each year. US is 7 basic (federally mandated) holidays plus usually 10 days discretionary vacation time. I'd put money on you coming out ahead.
Ah but we are the lowest for BH's in all Europe! and work harder and longer each day than anyone else in Europe!

I KNEW IT!! My guess was that the next new ship would be the Disney Dreams....aha! But what about the 4th ship?

That depends almost entirely on what you plan to do with your day. If you're just going to spend it at the park, go with HoJo's. It's not worth the price difference. If you're going to relax at the hotel & hang out in the pool, go with on-site.

:cool1: :cool1: The return of the 7 Questions. :cool1: :cool1:
[
1) What are your favorite sport(s) or athletic diversion(s) - past or present (not future) that you've engaged in?[COLOR="Red"]I recently started biking. I enjoy getting a good book on my ipod and heading out for a nice long ride. I use to play softball! And I love to watch baseball GO TIGERS!!!
? Since we are in a catagory 9 I guess I would prefer an upgrade. Although a spa extraveganza sounds heavely it would be wasted on everyone else in the family except DD and myself.
3) Do you have a favorite cold (not hot) dessert? If so - what is it - what flavor(s)?
Peanut butter cup Blizzard with chocolate ice cream!!
4) What is the funniest thing that you can recall from this year? Watching my kids get caught for trying to hide their veggies under the potatoes at the Prime Time Diner. Here is a picture of DS and friend of DD having to hold sugar packets to the wall while everyone told them "shame,shame".!!http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t222/TheNextFairyGodmother/SANY0570.jpg
5) What is the strangest thing you can recall from this year? Having to go to court to defend the girl who we are giving our parrot too because her boss fired her and denied her unemployment because he thinks we should have given our bird to him instead!!
6) Were you SURPRISED to see DISNEY wipe away the $100 fee? AND do you think we had anything to do with it happening? Or would it have happened naturally anyway? No I tend not to panic about things like that and I figured Disney would do the right thing!!
7) What are you having (or had) for dinner tonight? And does this type of dinner qualify as the sort of thing that one of your "favorites" or "preferred" for a supper? DD is having italian sausage since I promised it forever ago, Mark is having Mac and cheese since he is having a craving and DD will probably have some of each. I will be having one of my oh so yummy Jenny Craig meals. now where is that puking smilie?
And again Tom thanks for asking.

OK, for all you visualizers out there - please visualize me getting a job offer from this firm I just interviewed with. They seem really great, the work is totally within my comfort zone, and the pay is much better than I'm currently making. The only downside is that they're not sure (once I clean everything up) that the position will be full time. But the clean up should take a year or so...
So, please think happy thoughts in my direction. We could really use the extra income (and I promise to make monthly payments for our TOAL) :rotfl:

So, short story was we could have just planned to stay through tonight and caught the connecting flight through STL and been home at the same time.
As I said to SWMBO last night (after finding out the 705PM flight on Friday did get to ORD around midnight after all), "Every decision we've made has taken us from bad to worse..."
J. R. I couldn't quote your whole story, but I just wanted to say...so sorry for such a miserable time getting home!

Really sorry we missed the meet, especially after what we went through getting home. As you may recall, we chose to end our trip on 8/23 because that was the last day we could find frequent flyer tickets with direct flights to Chicago.
As I said to SWMBO last night (after finding out the 705PM flight on Friday did get to ORD around midnight after all), "Every decision we've made has taken us from bad to worse..."
JR I hope you can laugh about this someday!!:goodvibes The important thing is you all made it back safe and sound!!!:thumbsup2
Any visits from the Dream Team??? You certainly deserved some!!! Post pictures before I leave. Any hints are appreciated!!:woohoo:

Good Monday morning everyone,
Well it's off to school for the start of another year. I'm not ready for my summer to be over, but the good thing is that I'm that much closer to graduation. This is my last year of actual classes, so I'm looking forward to getting them over.
I enjoyed being able to (mostly) keep up with the thread this summer. I hope to try to keep up with it during school too. I'll definitely be following the rest of the virtual cruise, and will be daydreaming about where we'll be next year while sitting in class!
Nothing but straight A's is acceptable!!!! Good Luck this year.:flower3:
But its our last one to Christmas!
Do you really expect all of us to feel sorry for the country with so many bank holidays. You and David hold the record for most days off work.:lmao:
good afternoon everyone! i can't believe in just 2 days we will be at the world!!!! woohoo! getting sooo excited! and the kids still have NO idea!!!!
I am getting excited too!!! Can't wait to meet you!!:cheer2:

OK, for all you visualizers out there - please visualize me getting a job offer from this firm I just interviewed with. They seem really great, the work is totally within my comfort zone, and the pay is much better than I'm currently making. The only downside is that they're not sure (once I clean everything up) that the position will be full time. But the clean up should take a year or so...
So, please think happy thoughts in my direction. We could really use the extra income (and I promise to make monthly payments for our TOAL) :rotfl:

The first "real" cruise we ever took included Aruba as a port... and simultaneous to that our first land side stay in the Carribean was to Aruba in the days right before that 1st time carribean cruise. That was about 14-16 years ago. And as such, your photos bring back some pleasant memories. I have no idea where my Aruba pictures are ... although I know they are somewhere in the house or (gasp!) the garage. At any rate, thanks again for tossin' these images up Rodger! They stir and refresh pleasant memories with exciting adventures of "another time" for my spouse and I!

I had to say I was echoing your thoughts here as our Samoyed also detests the water! Which reminds me... he is sorely in need of abath too. While we were away on Oahu my sister took care of him. Or rather, she lavished love and attention onhim - which means he went all over town to places unknown to me. And he came home to us sort of dirty from all the places he had been. My sister has all the fun with him and returns him needing a bath. < chuckles > ... and that's OK as it saved us 16 nites in a kennel at about $25 a nite! To say nothing of the emotional trauma he wold have gone through there!

Thanks for the pics of the DLH. We were seriously think the GC because we'd like a balcony, but after seeing the pics of the pool I'm not so sure. I guess it will depend on how bad the points are.
Points at the GC are 10-15 more a night than the DLH. You don't have balconies at the DLH, but you do have sliding doors with a fence & can pull up chairs next to them. Obviously your choice, but having done both, I'd much rather go to the DLH.
Thanks for all the good thoughts on the job front. I got a call yesterday to say that I'm the office manager's first choice for the job, but I still need to go through the rest of the interview process (2 principal architects). Keep up the positive thoughts & I'll post the results.

I was in Aruba 3 years ago and a couple of things stand out in my mind.
The first is that Aruba was very windy. I have long hair so it was a pain.
Secondly is there must be 2 sides of the island. We went to the "wrong" one. It was very industrial, very, very windy and not so pretty. We will make sure we do not back to the same side again.
On a side note, I listed the stops when I donated blood last week and they said I would be blocked for a year after we get back. I will make sure I go every 2 months during the next 12 months and then maybe I won't feel so bad next year not being able to donate.

Thanks for your perspective on the GC & DLH. 10-15 more points per night is a lot just for a balcony. I'm definitely leaning more towards DLH at this point.
Just an FYI for anyone that might have a flight booked on JetBlue this fall. They just dropped their prices & our flights for November went down so we ended up with a $100 credit towards a future flight. Which means our flight to CA next Aug. is already $100 less! :cool1:

The Disneyland Hotel has balconies.....you just can't SIT on most of them. They are basically just a railing outside a sliding door. You can open the sliding door and take about one step before you get to the railing. If you look really close at Roger's pictures of the hotel towers, you can get a good idea of what they look like.
We had a one bedroom suite at the DL Hotel last March, and it had a BIG sit-down balcony, facing the parks. I loved it! But no-can-do next time, it was way more $$ than I need to spend again.

For US Nationals my fee structure is 5 cents.... for all others the rate is 5 PER-cent.... 5% of proceeds in your case.

That's not very abusive is it?

5% OF £4.5 MILLION (SATURDAY) £21.5 MILLION -Euromillions, god thats expensive, suppose you need to pay off 9 cabins on the Magic next year.
Do you have a UK relative called Dick Turpin?
Did I tell you I have a GREEN CARD?
(I also have a blue, red and yellow one)
Actually £4.5 MILLION IS EQUAL TO About $2.50 on the current exchange rate (at Andrews cash converters)

Cheryl have a wonderful vacation. And a great time at your mini-meet:goodvibes
On a side note, I listed the stops when I donated blood last week and they said I would be blocked for a year after we get back. I will make sure I go every 2 months during the next 12 months and then maybe I won't feel so bad next year not being able to donate.
That is great that you donate blood:)
Just an FYI for anyone that might have a flight booked on JetBlue this fall. They just dropped their prices & our flights for November went down so we ended up with a $100 credit towards a future flight. Which means our flight to CA next Aug. is already $100 less! :cool1:

I was wondering the same thing today. Also wondered how the Dr. Appt went with his DD.
Hi Arlene, we made it back in one piece. Well except for my daughters foot. The Dr. explained that she suffered a "terrible injury" and that it would take some time before it heals. The Dr. opines that surgery is not an option at this point due to the potential risks. He put the leg in a hard cast and will evaluate her progress or lack therof every two weks. We are taking her to another ortho surg. that Pete knows on wednesday. Hopefully, he will concur that surgery is not needed and that it will heal on its own. Sorry for the long answer. We are very appreciative of your thoughts. Jack

Our flight home was pretty eventful itself. Since the east coast had all those electrical storms, they sent us home over the Atlantic... (Can you say...in the event of a water landing...we're all going to drown?)

Then coming in to Baltimore there was snow:scared1: yes snow...outside the plane. (seems that can happen at higher altitudes)

Jack, after having had a DD who has been laid up for 2 months after hip surgery and actually having her be pretty much in pain for 2 years now and unable to participate in anything sports related which is her passion. I feel your pain. I hope that the Ortho Surgeon that Pete has recommended will offer some good advice. Make sure you get a second or third opinion as we didn't and ended with possibly a unneccessary surgery. I hope that she will see improvement without need serious surgery or rehab. We will keep her in our thoughts.

:grouphug: for your DD. Both my older DGKs have had casts this year. They had bad pain in the feet and they never really saw anything on the xrays but put them in hard casts for a while to allow the feet to heal. Sabrina came out of hers without any pain, Morgan apparently stuck something up there to scratch an itch and had to have the cast taken off as he had a sore. You know my theory? Those darn Heeleys they wear. I think they damaged their feet and since they are not wearing them anymore no pain. Just my theory.
The right doctor makes all the diff.
Also want to thank your family and Peters for being such gracious hosts. Glad you finally made it home.

We had our big progressive dinner (we do this with a 6 other couples about 4 times per year) on Saturday and our appetizers came out great - thanks to all those in chat who helped with suggestions! Mary Ann's Brie came out fantastic and everyone seemed to really like it. We had NO leftovers and we thought we had made plenty of extra food.
On Sunday we cleaned up the cooking mess and then started on the house - then my parents brought DS8 back home to us and it's all messy again!
Monday was a busy day at work and DH had to work really late, so I was sort of a single parent for the evening also. We tried to go to the pool - but they close at 6PM for the last few days of the summer (rather than the usual 8pm).
Yesterday, my mom and I took DS8 down to Chicago for the day. We visited the Cultural Center (fantastic tiffany glass dome ceilings), the Art Institute and Millenium Park. Yes, I have one of the very few DS8's around that ASK to go to the Art Institute! He was disapointed that the kid exhibit was closed, but he seemed to really enjoy the modern and contemporary art (he also likes the impressionists). It was kind of odd - they are in the midst of adding a large addition and keep moving the collections around - many paintings aren't where they have "always" been and some of the most famous works we didn't see at all (such as American Gothic and Albright's Dorian Gray paintings). They have probably moved them to different locations and it is pretty much impossible to see the whole thing in one day. They have had the Chagal windows down and in storage for a couple of years now during the construction and DS really wants to see them.
Today, DS8 started 3rd grade - hopefully this will be the year that things click for him and he will feel like he fits in better at school.
Oops - lunch is just about over - need to get back to work!

That's really cool!
We took our kids snorkeling for the first time on our cruise last January, at ages 7,7, and 9. They had a great time, especially the 9 year old. We'll probably go snorkeling a few times on this cruise. That way, we can all do it together.
The dive was *VERY* cool. We spent an hour on the boat learning how not to kill ourseves, then had two dives at about 50' each. We saw a submarine & Eagle Ray, plus boatloads of fish. I so want to get certified, but DD is only 4 - it's gonna be a while. The upside is that she is a serious water baby. She's learning to float & dog paddle (in her floatie suit). In 2005 (when she was 2) we spent almost 3 hours in a pool in Puerto Vallerta (at the Krystal Resort). When we took her out ('cause her teeth were chattering), she cried & said she wanted to go back into the water. I think we'll try going there again in 2008 (at least for a while).

Yes he has to be on the next series, they now show it in full here on the BBC as it is their own show.
He would be good!
I hear Keria Knightley wants to dance with Crash!
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
If only I were as good with Photoshop as he is, there'd be a picture of he and Miss Keira dancing! Drats.

We did a resort dive the last time we did the Mexican Riviera. We'd taken the excursion to Las Caletas in Puerto Vallarta, and they told us on the boat on the way over there that we could sign up. Since we've snorkeled forever, we thought we'd try it.
Although I did really like it, I still prefer to be in control of my air supply.
Jay found that he can't do it, because he has too much trouble with his ears...but our son was only 12 at the time, and he loved it.
Besides, when it takes 3 people to zip you into a wet suit, you know you're just not meant for it.

Umm... Ya... I'd take that as a sign. That or it's time to get a bigger wetsuit. :rotfl:

Look it's me under the sea...
http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/data/500/72939scuba1small.jpg
Well actually it's no sea...it's only the pool at the Vistana Villages....
I took an intro to scuba class and i really liked it. Might just have to look into Scuba Certification classes here at home... Then i'd just have to get past the shear panic factor of deep sea and sharks or large fish.
Lookin' good girl!

Hey everyone. Here I go again trying to ketchup. It's been an up and down past few weeks - months. Part of my trouble catching up is that my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. I was a bit worried that I would have to cancel this cruise because I couldn't be away that long. Unfortunately, that is not the case. My mom passed away last Friday. I was lucky enough to be with her full time for the last week, which is a big part of the reason I have gotten so far behind.
Now for the good. One year from today I will be celebrating the big 4-0 on this cruise!!! I am really excited for that as I celebrated my birthday a couple years ago on the Magic on the PC cruise then.

Second, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
Does this mean you're having a party next year?
