Ok, so why did I get some weird message telling me "postthanks" could not be found? Didn't type anything about "postthanks"???????
Boy the boards are wacky now.
And to top it off, since I couldn't DIS all day, what did I do?? Checked into some plans for my birthday next month. Either a weekend in Vegas (yoo hoo Todd :wave2: ) or a weekend Mexico cruise (but only if I can find room on RCCL, other option is Carnival YUCK!)

Our order arrived on Monday. It was funny to see our tiny little box of paper clips in this big box all by itself, we got a big :lmao: over that one. The box with the paper in it was so heavy, Hazel had to leave it on the front step until I got home.
LOL! :goodvibes Yes, that was a heavy box...I probably should have waited for DH to get home to bring it in.

Glad to hear that your DD is doing better Laura. :)
I found out some great information about DS and school today after a meeting. I talked to the AG teacher about it and now feel that there is hope for DS being challenged from now on. :) I wish that I knew about this earlier but at least I know now. :)

OK, now this is just too funny and I had to share it with y'all.
Today was the first "FULL" day of Spring, and guess what happened, not once, not twice, but three times....................I slipped and fell on the ice attemping to read meters that are attached to the back of some of the residents homes.
Luckily, no injuries, unless you count my pride and ego..............:lmao:
Survivor fans, remember that Survivor is on tonight, due to March Madness being on Thursday.

I wanted to tell everyone Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for our "stinky" DD. She did sleep better last night due to the extra pain killers I gave her. She said she didn't even wake up which is very unusual for her right now. She even over slept this morning. Too bad she can't have that every night.
I really do appreciate everyone here and I want you all do know that it is so nice to be able to mention some concern and know that there are friends here who will support you. I thank God every day for my new friends on DIS. It is truly amazing to me that even though we have never met in person we all have bonded with each other in an awesome way. It is truly a God thing!! You are all so wonderful, and we do covet your prayers and thoughts. Pardon my mushiness.  :grouphug: :grouphug:
I'm so glad she was able to get some much needed rest!

IEP's? AIG? DEP's? Can you translate please. Our DS was in the gifted program starting in 4th grade until he left elementary. now in Junior High they don't have anything for that except advanced math and history. Next year he can also add Advanced English. I fought for 3 years for him to be recognized as needing more of a challenge. Finally, at the end of the 3rd grade when the MEAP scores came in they were willing to believe what we knew all along.

We don't have any kind of gifted program until they kids are in the 7th grade - then it's more like accelerated classes, doing 3 years of math in 2, AP becomes available in 9th. This is a big part of my problem with DS - he isn't challenged enough in school and he is BORED out of his mind, so he doesn't apply himself - thus starts a vicious circle.
I'm really hoping that we can just get through the next few years.

OK, don't have time to ketchup. I have been SO busy I don't even know if I'm coming or going! Just wanted to let you all know I'm alive...
My kitty seems to be fine. They said she's either had an alergic reaction (and they gave her a low-dose cortisone injection to see if that helps), or it could be a metabolic condition (they took some blood and are testing it), OR...She could just be Obsessive-Compulsive...Yes, OCD...exactly what I figured it might be in the first place...:lmao: (I'll just poop a brick if I spent all this money at the vet and I had the diagnosis the whole time...:lmao: )
So that's that...
Here at work it's been a MADHOUSE...We're preparing for inventory on Friday, and we're doing mad preparations this time because last inventory, we came up over $10,000 short!! :scared1: So we're trying to figure out what we did wrong last time, and NOT repeat it!! :thumbsup2
The adoption process is moving right along, and I will tell you all about our goings on over the last weeks later when I have a chance to breathe!!
Anyway, like I said, no time to ketchup, I have more work to do before I go home. But I hope everyone is well! :flower3:
See you all later!!

I keep seeing that "rumor" of spring being posted on the board.... but all this ice has me wondering....
Of course today is bizarre, when I left work the whole town was covered in smoke, now its by my house. From what I hear on the scanner, its a fire about 50 miles away.... weather is making smoke hang by ground...

So, here's the scoop on the veterinary emergency...
I returned form Portland yesterday to our 13 year old dog, Kaiya, who was in quite a bit of distress. She was fine when DH left for his school Board of Trustees meeting at 6:30. When I got home (at 8) she was obviously in pain, and looked like she was bloating (this is potentially a life threatening problem). Fortunately, our sitter was willing to stay. Off to the vet we went. It was, indeed, bloat and her stomach had twisted, but it didn't look like it had flipped completely over (that is the very acute life threatening version). DH and I got to have some really lovely conversations about euthansia and how far we're willing to ask a very old dog to go. I don't wish those conversations on anyone. We decided that we would not ask her to attept a recovery from major abdominal surgery, and that if it could not be solved non-invasively, well, it'd be a sad day at our house. Fortunately, the vet was able to pass a tube down to her stomach and relieve the pressure. It looked like the partial twist has untwisted itself as of last night.
This morning, new xrays showed her stomach filling with gas again. The vet is again concerned about the stomach flipping over. She suggested a laproscopy (spelling?). With two small incisions they could put a camera in and see if the stomach had twisted. If not, they can tack the stomach to the abdominal wall to prevent it from twisting. If so, then it would be major abdominal surgery to go in and untwist the stomach - which we've already determined we won't do. We've OK'd the laproscopy. It'll happen tomorrow - they had to use the equipment today and need time to sterilize it. And of course, we STILL have to figure out why this is happening - we're still in triage now.
The good news is that I went and visited her today. Mostly to give her the chance to tell me if she was done. Quite the opposite, she was bright eyed and bushy tailed, completely herself. So I left with a great deal of hope that we will have excellent success with the laproscopy.
I'll be able to buy a round with the Disney Dollars from this one... :scared1:
On top of this, DH is away at a training class for the rest of the week. Annual reviews are due for my employees at work. The write up for a major award we were thinking about putting in for is due on Friday. (next year is looking really good for that application right now...) AND our school auction (which raises well over $100,000) is on Saturday and I'm the Silent Auction chair!
Uh, I think I'm going to be pretty scarce on the boards between now and Sunday. :sad2: I'll try to check in to give you the results of the surgery since I know you'll not want to be kept in suspense.

-Christal
Glad to hear about the good news for kitty. Hope things settle down for you soon.

Good luck to Kaiya tomorrow and many:grouphug: coming your way.

Oh my!!! I know that feeling, our 11 year old Dalmation put us through similar fits last week, couldn't climb steps, get on our bed (her favorite place - yes we spoil her), throwing up in middle of night, whining/yelping whenever someone tried to pick her up (to carry down stairs). Fortunately it all passed, just some overexertion with the brief bought of springtime weather we had (before the ice).
I will say a prayer for your dog!!!
Good might everyone I will talk to you all tomorrow! I am getting over my dis withdrawel and it is making me sleepy.

IEP's? AIG?
IEPs are an Individualized Education Program for at risk kids in school. These are ones who have been identified as needing help in order to be able to pass to the next grade for whatever reason. They are used for special education students as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individualized_Education_Program
A DEP is a program outline for AG kids to make sure that their needs are being met. They are considered special needs kids & their rights are protected by the disability act. The NCLB legislation is suppose to make sure that those AG kids aren't left behind & stop making gains in learning just as much as the at risk kids who may not advance to the next grade.
The AIG is the gifted program in the schools here.

The GT site shows that NY is one of many states that doesn't mandate a GT program (gifted & talented) and there is no money allocated for a program. I am feeling lucky that DS has had the little bit of motivation that he has the past almost three years and that there is a path for me to get him more challenges.

Sorry Tom......we can hope that all teens are different though! :lmao: You know what surprised me was my DS's mood swings. My DD is older and a girl like me, so her mood swings just reminded me of, well, me. But when my DS hit puberty and was kinda acting all hormonal I was surprised. Things have settled down now somewhat (he's 14) and now he's taken to mumbling everything. I don't like mumbling, but prefer it to emotional outburst :rotfl2: Emotional outburst are reserved for the MOTHER of the house :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am posting this is to all my friends who are currently are parents of teenage girls or will in the future be parenting teenage girls. Alot of this also applies to teenage boys too. So this is for parents of stinky teens! Enjoy!
Congratulations! You are now the proud new owner of a
teenaged daughter. Please read this manual carefully, as it
describes the maintenance of your new daughter, and answers
important questions about your warranty (which does NOT
include the right to return the product to the factory for a
full refund).
IF YOU FEEL YOU HAVE RECEIVED YOUR TEENAGER IN ERROR: To
determine whether you were supposed to receive a teenaged
girl, please examine your new daughter carefully. Does she
(a) look very similar to your original daughter, only with
more makeup and less clothing? (b) refuse to acknowledge
your existence on the planet Earth (except when requesting
money)? (c) sleep in a burrow of dirty laundry? If any of
these are true, you have received the correct item. Nice
try, though.
BREAK-IN PERIOD: When you first receive your teenaged
daughter, you will initially experience a high level of
discomfort. Gradually, this discomfort will subside, and you
will merely feel traumatized. This is the "Break-In Period,"
during which you are becoming accustomed to certain
behaviors that will cause you concern, anxiety, and stress.
Once you have adapted to these behaviors, your teenager will
start acting even worse.
ACTIVATION: To activate your teenaged daughter, simply place
her in the vicinity of a telephone. No further programming
is required.
SHUTDOWN: Several hours after activation, you may desire to
shut down your teenaged daughter. There is no way to do
this.
CLEANING YOUR TEENAGED DAUGHTER: Having a teenaged daughter
means learning the difference between the words "clean" and
"neat." Teenaged daughters are very clean, because they take
frequent showers that last more than an hour. They will
scrub themselves with expensive, fragrant soaps which you
must purchase for them because like I'm sure I'm going to
use like the same kind of soap my mom and dad use. When they
have completely drained the hot-water tank, they will step
out and wrap themselves in every towel in the bathroom, which
they will subsequently strew throughout the house. If
you ask them to pick up the towels, you are confusing
"clean" with "neat." Teenagers are very busy and do not have
time to be neat. They expect others to pick up after them.
These others are called "parents."
FEEDING YOUR TEENAGED DAUGHTER: Your teenaged daughter
requires regular meals, which must be purchased for her at
restaurants because she detests everything you eat because
it is like so disgusting. She does not want you to accompany
her to these restaurants, because some people might see you
and like I'm sure I want my friends to see me eating dinner
with my parents. Either order take-out food or just give her
the money, preferably both. If you order pizza, never answer
the doorbell because the delivery boy might see you and
OMG he is so hot. Yes, your daughter's idea of an
attractive man is the pizza boy.
CLOTHING YOUR TEENAGED DAUGHTER: Retailers make millions of
dollars a year selling stylish and frankly sensible clothing
which will look adorable on your daughter. If you enjoy
shopping, you will love the vast selections which are
available to you. Unfortunately, your teenaged daughter
wants to dress like a lap dancer. You may be able to coerce
her into putting on a cute outfit before leaving the house,
but by the time she walks in the schoolhouse door, she will
be wearing something entirely different.
OTHER MAINTENANCE: Teenaged daughters require one of two
levels of maintenance: "High," and "Ultra High." Your
daughter is "Ultra High." This means that whatever you do
won't be enough and whatever you try won't work.
WARRANTY: This product is not without defect because she has
your genes, for heaven's sake. If you think this is not
fair, talk to your parents, who think it is hilarious. Your
teenaged daughter will remain a teenager for as long as it
takes for her to become a woman, which in her opinion has
already happened and as far as you are concerned never
really will. If you are dissatisfied with your teenaged
daughter, well, what did you expect? In any event, your
warranty does not give you your little girl back under any
circumstances, except that deep down she's actually still
there -- you just have to look for her.

Thanks for clarifying this for me. We are having issues here with both kids that they test in the 90 percentile or higher but score poorly in math at school so they stand to lose the ability to take the advanced classes. I still contend that the teachers play a big role in wether they succeed or fail.
My DS just received his MEAP scores and he way exceeded the standards in Math and English and has been put in an advanced English class which is great but they won't use the same test to move keep him in his advanced Math class if he doesn't get his grade up. They don't take into consideration that maybe the teacher isn't doing that great a job in how they test or grade.

I totally agree - the teachers play a huge role in how a child does. If the teacher isn't engaging and making learning fun for the child, why should the child even bother, especially if they are already bored? Which is what my DS's problem is.

When DS was 13 or 14 I had to limit his play to only Friday ater school and Sat and Sun. It continues still. I truly don't know what they find so fascinating. LOL. And he also had to keep his grades up. I have taken away his game priveleges (by hiding the controllers) from one report card until his next one was better. Yes, but Adam still loves his video games. I truly like it when he is out with friends all day. Now that hopfeully the weather will stay on the nicer side, he will spend a lot of his time fishing. He is still trying to adjust to having more "free-time" since he quit his football team. I really hope he rejoins the team (I totally understand why he quit), it really gave him a lot of positive
time out and about. So many of his friends "hang out" in the malls and our theater is horrendous all the goings on there--I still at 18 don't let him go.

Well, I guess, I'm off to bed. I really wanted to finish a library book today since I have been getting hate mail from the library because the books I have are way over due and they have holds so I can't renew them. I need to finish them and then pay my debt. Too bad. I had ironing and stuff to do tonight and now I am too tired to read. I would probably wake up with the book still in my hands. Which would be sound asleep due to that stupid carpal tunnel thing. At least my hands get some sleep.

It still works for me. I know there has been times when I have popped DS, but what has worked the best is just taking controllers or IPOD away. And then sticking with it, if his progress or report card was bad enough (anything less than a C). No return until the next one came out with improvement. That has taught him that I mean business and that he just can't wiggle out of it.
I wish kids these days were like us. Wakeup , play outside until dinner and head back out until the street lights came on. :sad2:

MR I love this! It is a keeper for sure. It certainly reminds me of my teenage years! :hippie: I guess my DD will be paying me back in a few years and my Mom will be smiling down on on us!

The GT site shows that NY is one of many states that doesn't mandate a GT program (gifted & talented) and there is no money allocated for a program. I am feeling lucky that DS has had the little bit of motivation that he has the past almost three years and that there is a path for me to get him more challenges.
I guess it changed? When DD was in school in the late 80's she was in the gate program, which was for gifted and talented kids. I loved the way they tested the kids ,where here in Fl, you have to beg them to do the testing.
Esteri, hope the pooch is ok. That is a very difficult decision. I have had to go thru that 3 times. After the last I swore we would never have another dog again, but here we are with a 3 yr old Boston Terrier.

Hi everyone!
I am sorry I haven't posted for awhile. I have been reading and trying to keep up except for the last day or two. Those days I couldn't even read because everytime *I* came to the board it was down for upgrades for hours! I told y'all I have bad luck! I must have been coming here everytime it was down.
I also lost all my quotes I was saving to multi-quote. They didn't show up when I clicked now to make a post. :(
I have been very busy lately and if anyone has said they miss me- thank you, I am just behind on my reading now since the board was down so much, atleast for me?
I do have some good news though!!!!
First off I am getting some use of my right side of my face and mouth back! Things don't taste quite as weird (my saliva and water do not taste salty anymore and most foods taste okay, but anything 'sweet' still tastes weird. Which I guess is a good thing. I ended up losing 7lbs in less than 2wks without even trying, probably because everything tasted so horrible! LOL), my lips are funtioning better on the right side and my eye closes a little easier. I am still not 100% and my face is not back symetric with the left- but it's an improvement!!!
Secondly, been busy lately with my oldest (Ruby) practicing to try out for cheerleader. Here they can only try out for middle school (what used to be jr. high for us old fogeys I guess LOL) cheerleading once they are in 7th grade, for 8th grade (in other words then all the cheerleaders are 8th graders) and she's never really been a cheerleader before. Okay so one year in 2nd grade she was in the little league cheerleading- you know the kind you register and pay for... it's not quite the same and it was some years ago anyway. She's obviously in 7th grade now.
ANYWAY, she does have physical ability in some respects (she is athletic, she can do the jumps HIGH and some tumbling she just learned on her own... mostly learned on her own on the trampoline we had up until a couple of years ago but never took gymnastics or tumbling or anything like that) and she CAN be loud if she's not being shy... ie: she's has lungs on her but is a bit shy in some situations especially around her peers. But she also has ADHD and it's not just real easy for her to immediately "get" complicated things- and they had to do a really complicated cheer and a super complicated dance to REALLY fast music... so she had to do some heavy practicing and the way they were teaching them in "chunks" of the dance especially was confusing for her. she was learning each "chunk" (or part) but having difficulty then putting it all together. So on Monday I taped one of the present cheerleaders (from behind so Ruby would be looking at it properly instead of learning things backwards) on the cheer and dance and she practiced her little heart out Monday and Tuesday night- they only had a week, 3 practices after school, to learn all this! The first we heard about the tryouts was last week!
Okay on to my point- they had tryouts today and out of about 45 girls that tried out- she made the cheerleading squad of 13 girls!!! I am proud of her hard work, she made the squad when many of the girls trying out had been cheerleaders (private leagues- not in school because this is the first year they can try out for cheerleading in school) and/or tumbling for YEARS. Ruby has had neither, yet she still made the squad. :)
She is so excited, and I'm so excited for her. She's had some disappointments in the past and especially this year- not making the bball team, not making the volleyball team... she did make the track team but it also didn't work out for her on a soccer team this season (long story about that) after playing 2 seasons every year for so many years... they "forgot" to recommend her for GT this year even though they said they would (and should have when she was younger, like they did with Robert), etc. etc.
Ruby is more the athletic type than the "girly" type but she enjoyed getting fixed up for the tryouts (martha stewart I may not be, but I can sure make some mega-ribbons ponytail holders and triple ribbon/triple color shoelaces by gosh! LOL Okay so I learned that thru necessity with my youngest DD who does cheerleading for Upwards...) and even just the practice and tryouts seemed to help her get over some of her shyness, and that's good because she's going to have to get completely over it. Who ever heard of a shy cheerleader?!? LOL
So anyway, I've been busy this week and going to keep on being busy- now we have all these meetings and things with cheerleading, the girls are camping out over the weekend with their GS troops, etc. etc. I am trying to keep up on the reading though, when the board isn't down when I come here, so don't feel like I'm completely ignoring everyone please!

My friend, the proud mother of three teenager daughters just emailed this to me.

Hello folks!
I've been off a couple of days due to an abrupt complications with my computer. My spouse was away one nite with her computer and the kids computer is still sort of new - and I had not installed the Wifi antenna - and I sort of forgot the administrator password and the wifi password. A double complication. Add to that my time has been extremely limited with one of the kids ill with a fever. So... I am accessing with my spouses' computer - while earlier tonight I ran my sick notebook over to friends' place asss he is extremely agile managing systems and fixing problems.
At any rate, I have limited access to this computer nutil I resolve the antenna and wifi passwords. Both managable once I get enough time to settle into it. Not now as I am about to tunr in... and the get around the admn password I have to call HP and get a USB token disc on key to use as a physical key
I'm turning in now.. cheers everyone!

IEP's? AIG?
We have a program like this at our school also. It's called EPP (Extended Projects Program). It begins for students in the 2nd grade, but they are tested in the 1st grade.
They have programs for Language Arts and Math. Ds has been in it since 3rd grade, and dd, who is in the first grade now, is being tested for next year. It is extremely selective, though. You cannot get in on teacher recommendation alone. All students are screened, then some of those students will move on to further testing. You have to score in the top 95th %tile on a NATIONAL scale to move on to IQ testing. Then, they have to score a certain # or above on the IQ test to be allowed to participate. Dd will be finishing the IQ testing next Tuesday, and we will wait to find out if she gets into the program for next school year.
Keep your fingers crossed for her.....she really wants to get into this program like her big brother!

So, here's the scoop on the veterinary emergency...
I returned form Portland yesterday to our 13 year old dog, Kaiya, who was in quite a bit of distress. She was fine when DH left for his school Board of Trustees meeting at 6:30. When I got home (at 8) she was obviously in pain, and looked like she was bloating (this is potentially a life threatening problem).
 prayers & PD for your fur-person.....
At least you knew to think about bloat....many people don't and it's too late before it is caught....
Could your vet tack the stomach without major surgery? (like a lap method for humans?)
Let us know how it goes today......

That is so sad....I've never heard of this condition before....poor baby. I hope they are able to take care of this.:grouphug:

I guess it changed? When DD was in school in the late 80's she was in the gate program, which was for gifted and talented kids. I loved the way they tested the kids ,where here in Fl, you have to beg them to do the testing.
NYC changes so much, it's hard to keep up. Not to mention that what's done in one region may not be done in another.
The G/T programs in my region and the regions near by, are actual schools. There are a few that are k-8, 6-12 and 5-8. Each school requires the students to pass an admission exam before entering the school.
My son attended the 6-12 school for four years, which also required parent and student interviews, letters of recommendations, high scores on the 4th grade state exams and a few other things. Getting my son into that school was worst than applying to college.:sad2:
So many people complained about the lack of consistency from region to region, that this year the Mayor revamped the whole process. Now, everyone has to take the same exam when applying to elementary schools. If you pass the exam, then you are granted a seat in your region’s G/T school.

Hi everyone!
!
That is great news!
And congrats to Ruby!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Oh my gosh Laura does he ever! He'd play alot more if we'd let him too. All of his friends play as a large group online and over headsets. We allow him to go so because we can hear everything that's going on. We also make a deal with him that he can play video games as long as he keeps his grades up (a struggle) and continues to play sports with real people in the real world. He loves sports so that's not an issue. Now if he paid attention in school the way he is so engrossed in that darn video game he'd be and Einstein.....
This has always been a great incentive to get the grades up.
We had to limit our stinky pre-teen to one hour a day otherwise he wouldn't do anything but play video games.

My DS plays Halo on Xbox and Rumescape (sp?) on the computer. Our DS's sound exactly the same......must be the age......is that right Paula? Does you DS seem to be outgrowing it at 18? I still like the days were you hung out with people "in person" DS says there's no difference but there is......
Runescape seems to be the rage even for the younger crowd (my DS 9 and DS 7 are into it along with all their friends).
I have a touch of insomnia tonight and was reading back a little (okay alot) and I came across this post from 1/31 the infamous booking day. Mary & family win the prize for the highest quote for the TOAL. I wonder what tier pricing this is???? :rotfl: :rotfl:
And to think that price was a Cat 11 GTY.....:rotfl:
I know. When I went to sign on it came up Data Error. I thought oh no not again! But then after awhile a was able to sign on. Could not go thru another day without my DIS.
(Doesn't it sound pitiful that it seems that this is the only thing I have to do?)

:grouphug: for your furbaby!!! - and you:grouphug:
we went through this with our dog - had the surgery(but ours was only 2 at the time)....it is common in deep chested dogs.....ours is half Greyhound and half German Shepard. It is a good thing you caught it when you did!!

Paula, seeing the pics of Adam during his first WDW trip reminded me of the countdown chart I made for Angelina. We started counting down the last 100 days leading up to our October 1993 vacation, each day a Disney sticker was added to the chart. We were potty training Angelina and told her in order to see Mickey she had to be wearing "big girl panties" by the time we left for vacation. The chart below worked!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!
II do have some good news though!!!!
LOL
BIP!!! so good to hear from you. I am so glad you are starting to see some improvement. Do you watch that Grease, your the one I want show? One of the finalists, Max, was saying last week that he suffered Bells Palsey when he was a little boy. He seems to be doing awesome now. I am sure it has been a strain for you and we continue to pray for you.
Also, awesome news about Ruby!! It warms my heart to know that they will pick kids for teams based on their talents not on whether they have been on the team before. Good for her!!!
TOM!! Was wondering where you had been. Glad to know your okay. sorry about the fever in your family. Hope that it goes away soon.
You got it. Toes crossed too!
Wish we had a program like this. Our gifted program itself was more like after school play time for the gifted kids since they couldn't get any teachers to do it. It was parent volunteer. The teachers during the day would give extra work but it was hard to get DS to want to do more work than everyone else. He used to say he didn't want to be smart if that meant he had to do more work
Just wanted to drop in and day HI to everyone. Have been trying to keep up but with work and this darn cold I have been fighting it has been doable. Whishing all those with birthdays a happy one and to everyone who is ill or just plain stressed out a fast recovery.
Well got to go take more meds that will knock me out. So I guess it time to nap. Oh I better call the boss and tell him I'm taking part of the day off sick. Lois Hope you feel better real soon. I know what you are going through. Still having ear problems from that cold/sinus thing I had last month.
Hello everybody! :pixiedust:
Mark & Laura: pixiedust: and :grouphug: for your family, especially DD. IKWYM about hating to see your baby suffer and wishing that you could take it away. That is the mark of a fantastic mommy!!!! (and daddy too!) Prayers that the docs evaluate well and can find a permanent fix! :flower3:
Thank you!!!
I wanted to give you all an update on my mom's DH. he finally got to come home Tuesday from the rehab center he was in. He is still weak, but doing good. He sure was glad to sleep in his own bed again. :)
So glad to hear he is home and getting to be around his own things will probably speed his recovery.

They make it very hard here in Fl to get your child into the gifted programs. First they say they test in the Spring. Not true. But if your child is overlooked and you insist on getting them into the program, you need to fund the testing out of your own pocket!!!
My DS was in gifted when we moved down here and reading at a 5th grade level in 2nd grade. The school didn't even test him for normal placement til the Spring and they normally do it during the first few weeks they transfer in. I made a fuss of course as all I kept hearing was "We do it different than they do up North." Well they finally tested Chad and the district called and told me in such a condescending way he didn't make it. What really happened was they literally broke the kids spirit. My DD on the other hand had a really super advisor who tested her asap and had her in the right classes the next week.
Now my youngest GS is in the 2nd grade now and reading at middle school level. They take him out of the class and give him work to keep him busy. His teacher is still fighting to get him placed and tested.:confused3 You would think they would jump at a child excelling but here all the concern is for the schools getting good grades in the FCAT and that is the biggest problem we have here. The schools go into high gear around testing time and all they do is prepare for the tests rather than teach.

Without me having to go hunt down the HoJo's topic again, can you guys just tell who I need to talk to and what group name to give them when I call so I can book a couple of nights there. I sure hope they still have room!!
Thanks,
When I booked over a week ago, they stopped giving the real discounted rooms. They did give me a 20% discount but she wasn't budging from there. Good luck!

The GT site shows that NY is one of many states that doesn't mandate a GT program (gifted & talented) and there is no money allocated for a program. I am feeling lucky that DS has had the little bit of motivation that he has the past almost three years and that there is a path for me to get him more challenges.
I went through all your frustration years ago. My son was just 5 when he entered 1st grade. (Cut off date was then Dec1) The third day of 1st grade, the teacher wanted to talk to me. She told me my son was spaced out. He would just be off some where. The teacher thought he should be held back because he was so young. :rolleyes1 To make a long story shorter, he was tested. He blew the his scale way off the charts. :woohoo: He was capable of doing 10 year old and above work. He was just so bored that he would just drift off. He was placed in gifted(I always knew he was smart:rolleyes: ). He received straight A's throught school all the way through Grad-school. :scared: Just keep fighting for your children. Just because a person has a teaching degree, the teacher can be wrong!!! The challenge to apply themselves must be given. He is now the trouble shooter microbiologist for the largest drug company in the world. :scared1: But I must say he has NO COMMON SENSE still.

True, it was the hotel's decision.
However, the hotel didn't just look at DCL's schedule and decide hey let's offer discounts to anyone sailing on the eastbound repo.
Someone called on January 26 and negotiated a group rate.
When many of us called to book, we were asked if we were with "XYZ."
A large number of us were lucky enough to benefit from the rate that person negotiated.
If I offended anyone, then I apologize. I'm not trying to start a fight, but I’m not willing to pretend that a group rate just appeared out of the clear blue sky.
Maybe it's just time for me to bow out of this thread.:sad2:

Thanks to everyone for the comments about me and Ruby. I didn't grab them all for quotes- sorry! I appreciate them all though!
In response to the last comment- yeah... I made sure before I even let her know I'd received the email from the principal about the first "mtg" about cheerleading tryouts last week- that it was going to be done fairly. I emailed the cheerleading coach and asked her how it would be done- because if it was going to be done by popular vote of the kids in school... I wasn't going to let her try out! She's not popular- she gets shy around her peers like a totally different person, so she only has a few friends who really know how personable, silly, funny, nice, etc. she is. The rest don't even notice her because she gets quiet in large groups, classes, etc. and just blends into the background. She's had the same few girlfriends for the past few years. But when the cheerleading coach said no, that it would be 60% judges from another town not even given the girls names (they went by numbers in the judging) and 40% was by forms filled out by the teachers (for conduct, school grades, participation in class, etc.) -then I knew it would be done fairly. In fact the cheerleading coaches didn't even know who made the squad until they called out the numbers after all the judging was done- only then did they know what girl went with the number. KWIM? It was done very fairly. This is the first year of cheerleading here, involved with the school. Previous cheerleaders were like with football leagues -you know where if you register and pay, you're a cheerleader no matter what. But some of those girls had cheered for years like that and some had taken tumbling and/or gymnastics for years. So I am pretty proud of her that she had the ability to do some tumbling and practiced hard on the cheer and dance. It was especially difficult for her because both were very complicated and she has ADHD so she doesn't just remember things immediately. :)

True, it was the hotel's decision.
However, the hotel didn't just look at DCL's schedule and decide hey let's offer discounts to anyone sailing on the eastbound repo.
Someone called on January 26 and negotiated a group rate.
When many of us called to book, we were asked if we were with XYZ.
The fact is that someone here called on their own before knowing about any existing rate and tried to negotiate a group rate for the DIS. They were told that since there was already a standard 20% cruise group rate that already exists ... no matter what your sail date is ... there was no reason to set up a specific block of rooms for the DIS group reservations. When people called and were asked if they were with "XYZ" they said no. It was the hotel's decision to give them to standard cruise discount. They said that it didn't matter because all cruise groups received the same discount. No one here took advantage of anyone or anything. For whatever reason, some people refuse to believe, acknowledge, or whatever that fact. Noone here is pretending anything, although that can't be said everywhere.

Maybe not pretend, maybe just ignore/omit a few key facts.:confused3
I have to agree with this statement...although probably not in the same way that you intended it to read.

OK, and how was everyone's day today? I planned on playing hookey today, then decided to go to work and played hookey anyway. I got most of our basement cleaned up. Although I still have scrapbooking stuff out where it shouldn't be.
I also got a nice certified letter from the KY Environmental Cabinet, Division of Waste Management letting me know that I several violations that I am going to need to deal with concerning my underground storage tanks. Apparently, my line leak detection needs to upgraded. At least there are no fines involved, just capital expenditures I wasn't planning on.
We are going to grill out tonight steak, baked potatos and brocoli casserole.:)

I can't tell you how relieved we are. :dance3:
Three of the five annual performance evaluations are complete. Now, I just have to get through the auction...

I have a touch of insomnia tonight and was reading back a little (okay alot) and I came across this post from 1/31 the infamous booking day. Mary & family win the prize for the highest quote for the TOAL. I wonder what tier pricing this is???? :rotfl: :rotfl:
My goodness MR, that is a blast from the past! I can still hear "Beauty and the Beast" ringing in my ears as I held on the phone and was booking online at the same time! Thankfully the system righted itself after a few tries and I was able to book my Category 9 for a good deal less than the 4 million dollar bargain I initially received! :rotfl:

Hey Brack watch which # you call old? I turned that age in October. ;)
Hmm... What to get? i guess itunes would work. i know i like getting gift certificates for stuff i'd use but just not think of.... (of course my mom can never take a hint so gets me some crappy dollar store/yard sale item that i have no use for)
i'd rather get the itune card myself..... (of course it's DD who actually has an ipod)
Tell Annette i hopes she feels better..... (tell her it was all theat time away from you that must have made her sick.)
Thanks for the help. It probably will be the iTunes card.

I'm so glad you're beginning to feel better. And congrats to Ruby!

Hi Crash! Hope the kids are feeling better soon and that you get your computer woos fixed.

Lois
Feel better soon Lois!
