1960's Arithmetic test:
"A logger cuts and sells a truck load of lumber for $100. His cost of production is four-fiths of that amount. What is his profit?"
1970's New Math test:
"A logger exchanges a set (L) of lumber for a set (M) of money. The cardinality of set M is 100. The set C of production costs contains 20 fewer points. What is the cardinality of set P of profits?"
2000's no child left behind version:
"A logger cuts and sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost is $80, and his profit is $20. Find and circle the number 20."
2007's green version:
"An unenlightened logger cuts down a beautiful stand of 100 old growth trees in order to make a $20 profit. Write an essay explaining how you feel about this as a way of making money. Topic for discussion: How did the forest birds and squirrels feel?"

I am glad that you are feeling better. Hope you get a good night's sleep tonight.

Jungle book is right!
Walt Passed away in 1966, and although Jungle Book was not released until a year after, in 1967, production had completed and it's the last movie Walt himself worked on.
Walt did approve the next project, which would be 1970's the Aristocats, but other than approving the project, Walt had nothing to do with this film's actual production (well other than his influence of course!)

"I did not eat :cake: with that woman." - That I believe.
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our :cake: and our people, and neither do we."
"If you go to college, study hard, and get good grades, you get :cake:, if not, you get us stuck in Iraq." - If anyone deserves cake, it's those in Iraq.
"I have left orders to be awakened at any time in case of :cake: — even if I'm in a Cabinet meeting."
"I'm from the Government and I'm here to offer you :cake:" - Yeah...right.
"And there is no :cake: in Washington. I am surprised, frankly, at the lack of :cake: that exists in this town. And I'm sorry it's the case, and I'll work hard to try to elevate it."
"I invented :cake:"

Where would a good place to leave something hidden be on the Magic, in a seat cushion in the Walt Disney Theatre? behind some woodwork?
I would think somewhere in the cove cafe. I think the workers there pretty much stay in that area and you could let them know what you are doing. Maybe taped in the inside in the library there.

The 3 of us will have at least 4 cameras (3 stills and a DVD camcorder) so that's going to be a lot of images & video. I was debating on whether to bring DW's new 17" laptop (with the Lightscibe DVD burner) to pull the photos off the various chips but then I saw the Sony DVDirect drive
http://www.sonyburners.com/dvdirect/product.php?ID=1633442038
http://www.learningcenter.sony.us/images/article/Computers/DiscBurners/DVDirect/mc3_UE3.jpg
The nice thing about the MC3 drive is that it will take multiple sources for video and photos (camcorder, DV, digital memory chips) and burn them to DVD....no computer required! :thumbsup2
Now that is cool:cool1: I'll have to consider that one

Gotta share, I had a fantastic lunch today.
A co-worker and I were taken out by a manager in one of the offices we support. Our budget is so non-existent that working lunches are a thing of the past, so it was a nice treat. I can't remember the last time I've actually left the building for lunch.
He took us to the swanky part of town and we sat overlooking the country club's golf course. The food was good, but the service was lacking. The company was great. I'm so stuffed still. No dinner for me tonight.
Glad you got to get out and enjoy part of your work day:thumbsup2

We interrupt your regularly schedule chat to bring you this special report from our roving reporter Tuneful...
Folks, an amazing thing happened this afternoon. At about 4:00 pm Pacific time, a miniature piano magically appeared pixiedust: beneath Esteri's chair. She felt compelled to take it out and compose a brilliant, though very short, piano concerto. When it was complete, she orchestrated it for piano, a few strings, 4 clarinets, 4 trumpets, and a drum. :charac2: Esteri easily found a number of 4th and 6th graders to help with the world premier of this amazing new work. It really is too bad we can't pipe the audio through this report.
Thank you Tuneful. And thank you folks for tuning in. We now return you to your regularly scheduled chat....

MS Outlook - how do I block an email address so I am no longer bothered by this pestery person?????
Set an Inbox rule that automatically sends email from the given addressee into the trashcan: Tools > Rules and Alerts...

No that tree (the one I was standing next to) was in my yard, the tree that fell the other day was in my neighbors yard, to the left of us, which can be seen in the second photo way, in the back. If you look close in the first pic, you will see the tree I was standing next to, the tree is in the backyard behind our sn*w covered car. This pic was taken back in 2003 after a 20" plus sn*wfall. That old oak tree is huge, if that ever fell, our house, or the house (to the right) on the other side of us is a goner. I had all the old branches removed from this tree before this pic was taken.
http://inlinethumb36.webshots.com/2403/1063982066026317863S600x600Q85.jpg
Here is a pic of our cute little abode taken from across the street after the sn*wstorm in February 2003. Luckily the storm was over President's Weekend that year, took me about 8 hours of shoveling to dig out the car and the front of the house.
http://inlinethumb58.webshots.com/1657/1063982166026317863S600x600Q85.jpg
I know it's hard to make out, but that's Angelina under the left window at the front of our house. She was out playing on the mound of sn*w as I was digging us out. I forgot to mention, this same weekend, during the storm, our furnance broke down. Luckily, we have Gold Service with our heating company, so they had to send a repairman out to fix the furnance, as he was at our house, a state of emergency was called and he had to get off the road after he finished fixing our furnance.

A sign of spring happened yesterday to me. I got my Annual Pass to Busch Gardens, Williamsburg,VA and next Saturday St. Patrick's Day is preview day for all annual passholders.:yay: I hope the weather is good. Today it is supposed to be in the 60's here.
Been up early to walk my puppies, a shi tzu and a yorkie. I had to wake them up, they were snuggled under the down comforter. Went for their morning walk and now both are now sleeping. In my next life I want to come back as one of them. They are my babies as I have no kids.
I have to ask on how do you get into the chat room that you guys have? Is it by invitation only or can anyone join in?
To everyone who has a birthday today:bday:

I'll be around on and off today. DH had to go to work this morning to try to get a church some water, he was working until 10:00p.m. last night.

I would think somewhere in the cove cafe. I think the workers there pretty much stay in that area and you could let them know what you are doing. Maybe taped in the inside in the library there.
Thanks, Paula! And that's a good idea . . . Andrew, are you on this morning (afternoon?) . . .

I tried like the dickens to get on last night, but I kept getting "kicked off". Really p***ed me off.
Has anybody ever heard of a game called "Chronolgy"? Everybody picks 2 cards to establish a timeline, then you takes turns picking up a card that has an event question on it (.e. the year that panty hose was invented)the person has to guess where in their time line this took place, if they get it right, they get the card, if not,the next person gets a try. It's easy at the beginning but as you accumulate more cards, your timelines get a bit smaller.
When you start out you'll get a timeline of say,2300 BC to 1968, but as you add more cards, the you might have 1777,1779 and 1782 you say the event happened between 1779 and 1782 but the card is actually 1778, it passes to the next guy. The object to get 10 cards.

66,729
Wait, have to add those odd outside ones... 66,846
I think your answer is a little low. You got me to relook at my answer, however, and I think I was a little high. I treated it as 2 puzzles and added together, but that would duplicate many squares.
I think in addition to the outer squares, you need to look at the 2x2, 3x3, etc. starting with the squares not in the outer corners (i.e. cell Row 1, Column 2) and then you need to move over or down from there.
My new method, let me know if I double counted again, would be to do the smaller square puzzle, yielding 66,729, and then adding 29x4, 28x4, 27x4, etc down to 1x4 and then adding 1 for the full outside square. The ?x4 is because you would have 4 sides with different starting points for the 2x2, 3x3 and so on larger squares. The reason you don't square it is because you would double count inner squares of that size.
Doing this I come up with 68,470.
I'm back. I have a word problem for you.
If you walk around all day sucking in your stomach, does that equal about 100 crunches??
I would say no. I've tried. It's just not the same.

Morning everyone:surfweb:
Happy Weekend to All.
Been up early to walk my puppies, a shi tzu and a yorkie. I had to wake them up, they were snuggled under the down comforter. Went for their morning walk and now both are now sleeping. In my next life I want to come back as one of them. They are my babies as I have no kids.
Have a good day everyone!!!
I had a coworker tell me that he wanted to be one of our dogs! We do have one DS but he is 34yo this month so JoJo the DISDog is our only child now ...... and he milks it for all its worth! :lmao:

Belle is a beagle . . . she is 4 (will be 5 in June) . . . Linus is a shelter dog, so not sure exactly what he is, but he looks like a solid black Golden retriever(that kind of body size and coat, but black instead of gold) and he certainly has the personality of a retriever. . . he's 3 (will be 4 in the fall). I'm lucky enough to have friends to take them in when on holiday.
Linus is the best dog I've ever had -- a real friend. My girls always say"If you want to find Mom, find Linus and if you want to find Linus, find Mom" because he follows me around and settles in near my feet where ever I go. The funy thing is that my oldest daughter picked him out as "her" dog but he picked me.
Belle's more of a diva -- finds the most comfortable spot in the house and settles in. She doesn't have too much interest in me unless I'm eating, and then she tries to figure out what she could steal . . . She's really cute, though.

They sound loverly, I had two dogs when I was younger Rex and Shandy lived next to Epping forest then so could walk into the Forest and the dogs had a great run, but now, due to work and no one to look after the dogs daytime or holidays I felt it was best not to have one.
They have a personallity of their own, but when I lost Shandy it was difficult, he was a good age had a stroke and it was a sad end to his life.
I love dogs, is there a place where you can take them for a walk in NY, I know of central park but thats in the middle of Manhatten, again an issue here now is the limits on where you can take dogs for a walk.

For longer walks I do take them into Central Park (5 blocks away), but they have to remain leashed . . . more commonly, I take them to Carl Schurz Park just a few blocks away because there is a dog run (large fenced in area where dogs can go off leash and play with other dogs). Of course where ever you go you have to clean up after them, so it's sort of like being in the "diaper stage" with kids (seeing more poop than you really ever wanted) forever!
For a quick one, they just go once around the block here.

A lot of our trips JoJo goes with us. We tried to find a way to get him on our last cruise. Several of our DISer friends were suggesting how we could call him a "Service Dog" but a daily facewash for us didn't qualify. :confused3

Seriously if you want to take the dog with you on a cruise look into the Queen Mary 2 and the new Queen Victoria coming out at the end of the year, as they have kennels onboard. You have to call them to book the spot for the dog as online it always shows full for some reason. I think it is because they have to make sure they are under a certain size

Andrew could answer this, but in the past weren't dogs coming into the UK from the states kenneled for something like 6 months? It must not be true anymore or people certainly wouldn't pay all that money to have their dogs cruise over just to have them quarantined . . . or maybe it's for the West bound trip from the UK to NY?

I generally think they will be all treated the same, however the few who have had GTY moved to assigments, have generally been either with a T/A who had cancellations from someone mutlibooking or dropping out, with an assignment and transfering it, or for specail reasons.
I read on another site of someone telephoning DCL every day and in the end got one!
It gives DCL maximum flexability to move people around so they would wish to keep that, and if they assign a few now, the peole left out wil not be happy so they are in a fix really.
All I could say is maybe ensure they know your preferences, say port/starboard side, midship, not near laundry etc. SO on their penciled in lists where everyone is likly to go, they can accomodate your preferences.
Always ask

We can test to see whether any are still there when you get on in July!!!!! I think we have a better chance of succeeding this summer with less time between, but it will be fun to try.

Yes it has changed around a bit, but due to ''Rabies'' control, its in Europe but not in the UK there are rules on all dogs coming in.
It was as stated six months quarantine, thats a long time in dog years, now i think UK dogs can get a dog passport, including vet history, jabs etc and can travel within certain rules, but it would be wort checking

I've been trying to read back on the thread before I joined it, so I had to ask about your tree;) Adam would LOVE to have a snowfall like that here. Most we have ever gotten was about 20" and then lot of ice--closed our city down for a week. Most people got to draw unemployment that week.

Andy,
Sorry to hear of the loss of a family friend.
Will Verandah Gran get her own DIS account?
Thanks for the reminder about setting the clocks ahead. :hourglass
Verandah Gran does read the boards only when I send something her way. My mom's computer broke down several months ago, so she hasn't been online in a long time, she would call me from time to time and I would go into her account while she was on the phone and select what e-mails to keep, and which to delete. This morning she had over 170 e-mails she had to go through  ....................most of which were deleted.................:rolleyes1
Like Hazel, I don't think my mom would post on the boards, but I have been known to have been wrong in the past.
We'll see what happens after her new "used" computer is hooked up, but now that my mom is working again, her computer time is limited with the crazy hours she works.

I have never heard of that game. I am thinking I am going to have to study trivia and now history before this cruise! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Brad Delp, the lead singer of Boston died....that's sad.
http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/40689307
Well, we were just another band out of Boston
On the road and tryin' to make ends meet
Playin' all the bars, sleepin' in our cars
And we practiced right on out in the street
No, we didn't have much money
We barely made enough to survive
But when we got up on stage and got ready to play people came alive
Rock and roll band everybody's waitin'
Getting' crazy, anticipatin'
Love, and music, play, play, play, yea, yea, yea, yea

When you go into a chat room look at the top and click on "Options". A dialogue box will open. At the bottom is "Save message history on server". Click on "View" and a "Message History" box will open. In that box will be all the chat since you signed into that room. Click on "Select" to highlight the chat then hit ctrl C to copy. Then just Paste into Word.
Easy as :cake:
So that explains it! Does it copy it all in real time, or is there somewhat of a delay??

That sounds like FUN!
OMG, I'm such a nerd
Can we adapt it as a drinking game?
It also reminds me of an undergrad history class at the school where I went to grad school. I forget the real name, but it was affectionately referred to as "Big Bang to The Renaissance."

It appeared to be in real time at the time I asked it to copy but I did not look to see if it was continuous as well.
It will only copy from when you started until you copy it. Anything afterwards has to be recopied and if you leave the room without copying you lose the history.

I can't wait -- really! Also planning vacations today .....
The summer holiday has been planned for months. Two weeks in the mountains of North Carolina with family the first week and friends the second. The DISDog gets to go with us this year.
In September we have nine days at WDW and will be our first use of DVC points. I plan for OKW but we'll see.
In December we have two days before the cruise and eight days afterwards. I am hoping to use DVC points for WL but will settle for SSR (our home resort)
